How do i get to penn station in manhatten to go to hempstead longisland?|190646

i want to take the train from the bronx to penn station in longisland and get to hempstead in nassau county. is a train the fastest? i live on boston road in the bronx. and the 2 and 5 trains are near me. i wanna get to harold ave. is a bus faster?

  • There aren_t any good bus options.
Take the 2 train to Penn Station and the LIRR to hempstead.
There_s a long island bus map at mta.info if you need public transportation from there. You can also use all island taxi service.

  • I recommend you to take a Long Island Railroad instead of train. However, for Long Island Railroad you need to pay little more, for train you pay less but more slower.

What is an inexpensive motel in Las Vegas that is within walking distance of the strip?|103052

I_m not a high-roller or even a big gambler. Las Vegas is more of a starting point for a trip to the Grand Canyon. The trip will begin and end in Vegas. I_d like to keep it under $100 a night. There will be 2 people, both non-smokers who prefer their own bed. No SPAM, please. Thank you in advance.

  • Well my husband and I stay at the Strastophere which is located at the North end of the strip. During the week days rooms are around $35 then of course they go up on the weekends to around $90 or so. Well that is what we paid last time anyways. Check out this website also to help you http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/stay.cfm. This website is wonderful lets you know the deals on hotels, food etc, Also has maps of the hotels etc. Explore this page you will find it very helpful. Good Luck and have fun.

  • America_s Best Value Inn is within walking distance, on Tropicana, right next to the new Hooter_s Hotel. You can get deals on Best Value Inn from hotels.com If you book it early enough, several weeks in advance, you can get it for $50 night. The Stratosphere and Sahara rise stratospherically in cost for the weekend, Best Value Inn stays lower.

Best Value Inn is not nasty or dirty, or it wouldn_t be listed on hotels.com as they have certain standards to meet. The point is that you can get better rates there than at Motel 6 because of the internet rates at sites such as expedia, hotels.com, yahoo. Motel 6 does not partner with those companies, there is only one flat rate.

And it is within walking distance. Best Value Inn usually books up somewhat quickly because it IS a great value. The staff was nice and friendly, the lobby clean and modern. The rooms are modernized, for what you get I was impressed, it has a french country decor. Nothing fancy, but they did make an effort. Have you even stayed there, guest below who stays at Motel6?

  • Try Harrahs..inexpensive and in the centre of the strip.

  • That Best Value in is NASTY!!!!!!! DIRTY!!!!! The motel 6 is way nicer _ it is next door. Try the stations casions. I live here. Go to Vegas.com they have all the hotels _ then you can check prices of them all on that site.

  • Motel 6 on Tropicana.

  • any Coast casino property will do, try the Imperial Palace on the strip for good value...also Excalibur ........any hotel downtown on Freemont St is usually a good value

  • If its during the week you may be able to find something on the strip. Try the Tropicana.
  • What is the best dinner and show to go and see at disney world?|113752

My Children and i are going in May of 2008, my kids are going to be 3 _ 6, I will also have my nephew he will be 2. What is a good one to take them too?

  • Sleuths Mystery Dinner Show is the best in Orlando.. it isn_t at Disney but it_s close.

    http://www.orlandofloridasucks.com

  • The luau at the Polynesian.

  • You_ve heard of Epcot center there for the young and old. There is something in there for everyone ,beautiful
restaurants, and shows. At these ages it_s hard to suggest
as they get frightened by so much fast moving objects.

  • For the dinner shows make sure to make reservations in advance, they can be hard to get in to!

My personal favorite would be the Hoop-De-Doo Revue, which is at the Fort Wilderness Campground. Theres lots of singing and the people come out to your table and ask questions and various things so its very interactive. The best seats are downstairs so you can have a better chance of them coming to your table, but upstairs is a good view as well. One time when I went we were sat at a table in the far back by the doors which was where the Disney Executives sometimes eat when they come and several of the people in the show came over to our table, it was really nice. They serve Fried Chicken, Ribs, and other American food and delicious Strawberry Shortcake for dessert!

Another popular dinner show (that I havn_t been to, sadly) is the Spirit of Aloha Dinner show, which is a polynesian Luau with with music and dancing. They serve an all-you-can-eat feast inspired by polynesian culture. The show features hula dancers, fire twirlers, and more! Its located at the Disney_s Polynesian Resort, which is a really nice place to visit.

  • I_ve never been but the Hoop Dee Do Review is one of the best dinner shows at Disney. I hear it_s hard to get reservations so you have to make sure you get them well in advance.

  • Mickey_s Backyard Barbecue, they can dance with the characters and have a general blast, my son loves it to this day and he is 15.

  • Definitely the Hoop De Doo and request to be seated downstairs - much easier to see and be a part of the action. Enjoy!

  • Straw-Berry Shortcake!!!

    Hoop De DOO

  • do not do the hoop-dee-doo musical revue i think this is more geared to older kids or teens and adults we went last year and our kids were 7 and 11 and nephew was 6 or kids liked it except the 11 year old but i think they would of enjoyed it more if their was disney characters their this is what i thought when i made reservations this year were going to mickey_s backyard barbecue so we can be with the characters well i hope you have a good time

  • My goodness, well of course you_ll have to go to chef mickey_s character dinner! They have very good prime rib, _ your children will LOVE the character dinner!! I highly suggest you DONT take them to the woopty doo review or whatever. I went there _ it was just a disaster! The food was HORRIBLE. As if they just re-heated some microwave dinners _ food on the bone, _ just very dissapointing overall. The show was HORRIBLE!! My family _ I hated the atmosphere as well, it_s very olden day like. So I wouldnt suggest you go there unless you like to wait a long time, with a reservation, _ get horribe food _ a bad show.

My opinion- Chef mickey_s or any character dinner is perfect. They have that time where the kids get up _ walk around the restaurant to the beat of mickey toons. Ultimate place to eat on vacation! Have a great vacation! Hope this helped :)

  • The Hoop Dee Doo Review is by far the best because you_re in an enclosed space with lots of air conditioning and the staff enjoys working with young children. There_s lots of singing and dancing, and the food -- fried chicken, for example -- is the sort of thing that kids will actually eat.

What is the best way to get from Chicago Union Station to the Hostel at Congress and Wabash?|199791

I_m coming in from out of town (obviously, :) ) what is the best, and cheapest way to get from the train station to Hostel International?

  • you can walk, it is only 9 blocks away, or buy a CTA day pass for $5, and take bus 1,7,126,151 to state or wabash, only walk 1 to 2 blocks.
    Hostel $38 per day.

  • Catch a cab it is very close so it will be only couple bucks. Walk it is only about 15 minutes.

  • Go out of the train station and go to the east side. Catch the No. 1 bus. It will drop you off on Congress and Michigan ave. Walk one block west to Wabash. Cost: $2 if you pay cash on the bus.
  • What time does Warped Tour usually start and end?|101631

I_m Jenn, and me and my friend Sarah are going to Warped Tour on August 2nd at Tinley Park, IL, and we need to know what time it starts and ends so that we can get our train tickets.

  • The gates open to get in 11 AM.
I_m not sure what time it ends offically, but you can leave whenever you want to.
Last year I left around 9:30 PM

If you want to meet band members I would say stay as long as you can. This year I_m going to stay since a lot of the band members walk around after their sets and everything.

  • I live in calii

and both warped tours i went to
the gates opened at like noon.

so idk what it will be like for illinois.

did you try calling or emailing?

and ticketmaster should have the starting times.

and it ended around 8ish or 9ish here in cali

  • usually around 11, and it ends around 10 or 11 too. Get there early because there is no way of knowing what time bands are playing untill you get there and the worst is when u get there 2 hours late and you find out youve missed your favorite band

  • Ticketmaster says that the gates open at 11 and bands start playing at 12. It says it ends at 9:30, but last year we stuck around to get autographs and such.

  • When I went last year the doors opened at 10 and it ended at 9-10ish

  • I_m going to that show too. It usually starts around 11-12ish and ends 10-11ish.
  • What time of year is the best time to go to Disneyland amp; Sea World and all that?|100271

We_re planning a trip to Disneyland for next year (driving down from Oregon) ... trying to decide the best time to go, and how long to take.

We_re thinking mid-to-late September, as opposed to the middle of summer ... less crowds, perhaps? Also, is there a _rainy season_ to avoid, or is it virtually sunny all the time?

And, since we_re driving down from Portland ... is one week enough time? Wife says, _yes,_ buddy at work says, _no._

Any helpful info anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

  • i live in yorba linda Cali.
its 20 mins from disneyland in anaheim
there is no _rainy season_ here
it barely rains, 90% of the time it will be 80-90 and sunny
you don_t really need to plan for weather
but to bet the crowds and high prices come when school is in session, not on breaks
mid/late sept. is a good time so is may

if you mean a week to drive to anaheim, yes
a week to drive and be on vacation, no

i have no idea how long it takes to drive form portland to OC
but its atleast 2 hours from anaheim to san diego (Where sea world is)
i would go for 10-12 days to be honest
a week of vacation when youre driving, its going to be mostly in the car
    not _on vacation_

    have fun in california
    its beautiful here

  • Mid September is a GREAT time. Crowds are down, lines are short, and weather is still nice in general. I think I can safely predict with 100% certainty that there will be no hurricanes. (Brown Suger, this is LA, not FloriDUH!). Rain is so rare here, it_s a major news event when it happens. Generally you don_t get any until mid to late October, and the real rain doesn_t come until January, if at all.

At that time of year, you can do Disneyland in 2 or 3 days, since lines are short. You could do LA in a week, but try for a little longer.

  • going in September is not a good idea. Florida will be in the middle of their hurricane season. the best time to go would be in early May.the weather is still pretty bearable. no overpowering humidity. go to Map Quest to map out your route and see how long your journey will take. hope you have a good trip!

  • Temps are great in San Diego this time of year. And well all times of year. So pick a time when road travel through mountain passes is not dangerous.

  • Stay away during the summer because of the crowds.............And never go on a school holiday.
One week is surely enough time in Disneyland but LA is a big city.

  • Between May and August, sure it_s hot, but clear skies, no worries about in Red Flag Warnings unlike now...

  • we tend to get in well just in the beginning of april or the beginning of may
  • Where is the best place to rent a motorhome?|110490

I would like to rent a motorhome and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on where I should rent from and where I should go on my trip. I would like to spend about seven days exploring the southwest. I haven_t gone much farther than the basics - the Grand Canyon and Yosemite. Any other must see destinations?

    Thanks!

  • You have a great plan. Here are a couple of sites for rentals, as well as a couple of ideas as to where to go. Check the itinerary of the last site listed.

    Have a great trip!
  • Does anyone know a place in the Outer Banks that will rent to 22 and 23 year olds?|184414

I_ve been looking all over for sites that will rent to me but all the sites I_ve come across say you must be a family or at least 24 or 25. Does anyone know of a place or a site that could help me?

  • You could always camp. I stayed in houses at the OBX for years until I discovered camping there. To me it_s a hell of alot more fun and waaaaaay cheaper. Cape Hatteras KOA is great

  • Howdy,

I_m going to be going with Sean to the Outer Banks and will also be signing the lease along with him.

One of the first things we did when we found the house was contact the real estate company and ask if, even though we_re not a family and under 24, we could still rent the place. They contacted the owner and we got the thumbs up.

Now, here comes the issue. The contract for the lease has a line stating that we are verifying that we are indeed at least 24 years old. We_ve requested that they strike that line from the lease, but they are saying they cannot. This makes us a little nervous for obvious reasons. They are also saying that they will not have any additional contracts along with the lease, so we can_t have them sign something saying that they are aware of our ages.

Does this leave us exposed to get screwed out of our money, or is this standard operating procedure in the land of rental properties?

Just as a side note. Although I recognize the reasoning behind the age limit on rentals, it makes me laugh to think that my parents would have to sign for me to rent a vacation property long after I_ve moved out and am on my own.

Thanks in advance for your input!

    Mike

  • I think I can hep you out with a vacation rental. My company finds vacation rentals for people and we are very good at it. If you don_t mind please fill out a request form on www.thevacationfinders.com and I will have some places for you to look at within 48 hours. I know it is tuff when you are under 25 but I have access to thousands of properties.

  • You fall in the dreaded _non-family_ group area, and the first answer is always, but there are ways to get your group approved. I have two rental properties, and have had non-family groups rent my houses. Here is what you have to do:

First, make sure you are absolutely honest about the make up of your group. If you try to sneak in as a family group, you will be in violation and will be evicted, losing all monies on deposit.

Second, you must make sure that everyone in the group will abide by the rules laid down by the rental company. Generally, they are as follows for non family groups:

    1. If you have anyone in the house under 21, there is to be no alcohol. If you break this law or any other law, this is a reason for eviction and all monies will be forfeited.

    2. If the police are called to the house because of excessive noise, you will be evicted and all monies will be forfeited.

    3. You must agree to a $1,000 security deposit which will be returned to you six weeks after your departure. If there is no damage, all monies will be returned. If there is damage, let the rental company know and take responsibility for it.

    4. You must be willing to submit to unannounced periodic inspections during your stay by the rental company personnel. They will be checking to see if you are conforming to the above guidelines.

5.if there is no one under the age of 25 in the group, you will be required to have a parent sign the lease and take responsibility for it.

Third, the owner will want to know that you are a responsible group and one that he/she can trust with their very valuable asset. Dont forget, the owner is in this business to make money to cover the expenses of the house. If a group goes into the house and wrecks it, they will not be able to rent this out to other prospective renters. See if the rental company might permit you to speak to the owner so you can personally tell them of your intentions and that you will be a model renter. As my mother always says, Leave a place better than you found it.

For more complete details, you can find it on my website at:

What are some fun things to do at Denver, that are unique to that area?|183340

We are taking some teenagers to denver and want to know the best things to do their that are unique to Denver.

  • The Celestial Seasonings tea factory is in Boulder, about an hour west of Denver. The tour is very good. Hammond_s candies is another tour that might be fun. The Molly Brown house museum is in Denver. You may want to check with the visitor_s bureau and see if they have any better ideas.

  • Go to Pearl Street in Boulder. It_s a pedestrian street with window shopping and street performers. It_s really pretty cool. Make sure you stick together though...

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science was always fun when my school went. They have an imax theater, a health evaluation exhibit, and other random stuff that_s pretty entertaining.

If you have the opportunity, go skiing/snowboarding of course.

If your group of teenagers likes skateboarding or skating there is a nice skatepark at the Colorado Mills mall. Woodward Skatepark.

There is a United States Mint in Denver. That can be fun.

The Celestial Seasonings Tea center is a lot of fun. You can take a tour that tells about all the different kinds of tea. lol.

That_s about all I can think of right now...

  • Althought it only happens once a year, Denver is home to _sport stacking_ You may have heard of it, may not have. Once a year, they hold the world sportstacking championchips, in the Colisum. I_ve been to it twice, and it_s great fun. You might want to check that out sometime.

  • ummm.... Denver, Colorado.....
itz a boring place but itz special @ the same tym.....lol
    u can go 2:
Elitch Gardens (Six Flags..... its reli fun!)
    Red Rock Park (itz beautiful!)
go up 2 the mountainz..... (snowboard or ski)
Pepsi Center (n watch sum games)
museumz (we hav lots of em)
Downtown Denver (n experience the city life)
    OR:
    visit me! lol....... =)

  • Well if you are looking for a cool restaurant you should go to Casa Bonita. It is a mexican restaurant and its awesome! They have cliff divers and fire throwers. They also have like this dark cave thing that you can walk through and lots of different cool rooms. It is a huge place!

  • Take a walk along the 16th street mall. That is a lot of fun.

  • haha...nice blake
take them to the grand canyon!!!!!!!!!

i would love to go there!

  • Concerts at Red Rocks
    Rockies game
Get out of town and get to the mountains
  • Where is a new, fairly affordable place for a young family to settle outside of Jacksonville, Florida?|171114

I am looking for suburbs outside of Jacksonville where my family and I can settle, preferably close to the beach. Our children are young (less than 4 years old). Just some place safe, quiet, close enough to the highway with food and shopping close by. Any native Floridians have suggestions?

  • Might want to look at Nocatee along FL 210. With the real estate slowdown, there are some good bargains to be had there, altho it may be a while before you see many of the promised amenities. While it_s a bit out of the way currently, the go-ahead on FL 9B was recently given, which means a few years down the road there will be a major route directly into Jacksonville.
  • Which state is better to live, California or Kentucky?|171009

I live in Arizona and my family are planning to live in one of those places. Which is place is more relaxing.

  • Kentucky..i went there over the summer and it was awesome!!
    = )

  • Both are beautiful states. Kentucky has a much lower cost of living than California. Kentucky as a whole is more laid back than California. However, California does have some laid back areas. San Diego and the beaches of Orange County get my pick for the most laid back.
Both have their positives and negatives. It really depends on what your family is looking for.
California is much more diverse. It is a huge state and offers a large variety of types of places to live; Northern vs. Central vs. Southern California. You can go from snow in the mountains to the desert in less than an hour. There is a lot more to do in California than Kentucky.

  • California is huge and it depends a lot on what part of Cali. Kentucky may be relaxing but I would never really want to live there. A lot of rednecks and hillbillys in Kentucky...it_s real country in most parts. That is good if you are into that sort of thing. Kentucky is also near Indiana and Ohio which is cool because there is a lot to do and see in those places.

I suppose it would depend on what exactly you are looking for. Kentucky is definately relaxing as its mostly rural. As for Cali there are both rural and big city areas and it would depend on which you end up moving to. Good luck!

  • kentucky definately. i run out of louisville ky every week to los angelos, san diego, camp pendleton, all the way up 5 to huron ca, if you like looking at tomato_s all day long or if you enjoy cabbage fields the california is the place for you lol!!! and if you like having the state of california ripping you off and pulling you over to check that your not an alien then i guess its alright, as far as dirt in kentucky yes we have dirt and to say kentucky has child molestors would be correct but california is molsetor free apparently to one comment on here so as for being well of both states [well kentucky anyway,california wants to stop you at checkpoints and check you in at the border as you come into their country, you wont have to do that in kentucky you can just drive across the state line and not explain why you are in their state] id suggest the so called red neck state of kentucky its all one gang of rednecks so you wouldnt have to choose between the _bloods and cripts_ just dont move to kentucky expecting to be a cross dresser and getting the same warm reception as you would in cali. :}

  • Um, I dunno much about Kentucky, but I live in California, and it_s amazing! :) Beaches and everything. No doubt that the ocean is relaxing ;) And there are theme parks and stuff....and you can go snowboarding, or hiking, or whatever. :D And fine colleges, too, if you_re interested in those.

  • California, definitely. I live here in Cali and there_s so much to do.

Beaches, amusement parks, national parks, mountains, valleys, big cities, small cities, all kinds of people, it_s just an awesome place.

  • If you want relaxing and layed back, Go to kentucky.
A lot of country folks, And slow moving pace.
I live in alabama, It_s too slow for me here, So kentucky is not the place for me.

  • How long does it take to travel to washington DC from California?|198427

ok so my friend who i kinda like is going to washington dc, and he left this morning and i was kinda wondering how long it would be until he returned my last text.. i know how weird.
but he is gone for a whole week, and i was just wondering. i know that they are 3 hours a head, but i just want to know how long it takes. :D

    thanks guys.

  • 4-6 hours, good luck.

  • If he_s flying, and it_s a direct flight, between 4 and 5 hours, give or take. I_ve flown between LAX and BWI as well as between LAX and IAD (Dulles), and depending on the winds, they_re about the same traveling time.

But don_t forget he_ll want to pick up his baggage and get a ride to wherever he_s staying, so it may be longer before he has a chance to text you.

  • by plane 4 hours from DC to L.A
  • How does the weather in Minneapolis compare to Portland, Maine?|199387

My family is considering a move to Minneapolis but I_ve only been there briefly. I used to live in Portland, Maine and wondering if anyone if familiar with how the weather compares. Specifically, it seems Minneapolis has colder winters but maybe shorter?? Are the summers warmer and longer?

  • Comparing the two on accuweather.com, it does appear that Minneapolis does indeed have a colder but shorter winter.
Minneapolis gets colder in the winter and slightly warmer in the summer.

Links to both cities are posted below.

What are some nice places to travel to in or around Oklahoma?|196605

My boyfriend and I plan on spending a night or two someplace, and I am trying to figure out where. :)

  • There is a bunch of attractions on Oklahoma City listed on this site

    http://www.keyokc.com/attractions.html

  • Tulsa and Oklahoma City have some nice shopping and night life. If you want someplace pretty and relaxing I would recommend Beavers Bend by Broken Bow. We have several Casino_s if you like to gamble. Hope you enjoy Oklahoma.
  • Which island in Hawaii is best for newlyweds?|194515

My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon and are wondering which island is best for newlyweds? We are pretty low key, aren_t that into planned activities, haven_t been to Hawaii, and just want to relax in a beautiful place together. We have a moderate budget, so we can_t afford anything too luxurious. Which island have you had the best experience at?

  • Kona on the Big Island has some nice beaches. It_s a cute little town. The other side, (east side) of the big island is also very nice.. very lush and tropical.

Kaui is very beautiful but.. if you go in the winter, when I did, there is a change it will rain. A lot. I went a couple christmases ago, and spent the whole time inside because it was so gloomy.. But i_m sure it was just the time of year.

Maui, is gorgeous. Maui was the first place I thought of when I read your question. Beautiful beaches - and they aren_t as crowded as on Oahu.

It_s a tie between the big Island and Maui, but i_m leanin more towards Maui.

    Have a wonderful trip!

  • Kauai. Hit there, rent a condo, buy a cheap grill, go to Polihale. Remember-
-Go to Poipu for faboo waves and great surfing (great lessons)
    -Lydgate, great for beginning snorklers
-Waimea Canyon-just....breathtaking. Hikes are long and kind of strenuous, but we hiked down to a huge waterfall. Amazing.
-Polihale Beach. Hard for swimming, but it_s like 5 miles long, no one_s there, and there_s a sunset there like no one_s business. Look out into the horizon-that big island? Niihau. It_s restricted for natives.
-The Botantical Gardens. Fascinating tours, just bring water.
-Puka Dogs in this shopping center near Poipu. Get a vegetarian one with lilikoi mayonnaise.
-If you want, you can go to Oahu for a day for shopping or something. Whatever works.

All in all, not horribly expensive, not horribly cheap. Get ahead with frequent flier miles and you_re good.

  • Kauai is definitely best in my opinion. It_s called the garden island for a reason. My family has a time share in Poipu and I see newlyweds there quite a bit. Really good snorkeling around the island. Kipu falls, if the water is clear, is always fun. It_s a pretty laid back island with beautiful scenery. Lotta movies were shot there (jurassic park, parts of rambo 2, tropic thunder to name a few). Course, it_s the scenery island. For a more metropolitan experience, I_d suggest Maui or Oahu.

    Congratulations =)

  • kawaii :)
    oh so romantic

  • or Maui
  • What is the Quickest route from Long Island to Baltimore? With Shortcuts and all that jazz?|158407

I need to get to Baltimore fast. Traffic off Long Island Sucks but once I amm off what is the Quickest route to Baltimore. There must be a better way than old 95 south. Someone must know shortcuts and alternate routes around philli?

  • Other than taking the Belt to the VZ -Bridge over the VZ -pay toll _ Across Staten Island _Take 440 SOUTH !!! _ then over the Outerbridge crossing and finding the NJTPK at exit 10
Once you get on the NJTPK you are pretty much stuck with it and then I-95 all the way to Baltimore
There are some sneaky ways off of LI
Especially the Jones Beach , Long Beach , Rockaway routing that takes you over the Marine Parkway Bridge and then up to the Belt using Flatbush Ave but unless you basically know it and drive real agressively thru Rockaway [staying under the El ] you won_t save any time
  • Is car rust a big problem in Houston because of all the rain and humidity?|167266

    Moving to Houston soon...

I know that flooding is a big problem in Houston and obviously that can cause serious damage to a car, but let_s assume that my car won_t have flood damage to it.

  • I_m sorry, but flooding really isn_t that big of a deal in Houston. I don_t know why everyone who doesn_t live here believes that it is. I_ve been through hurricanes here and never even had rain come up to curb level. There has been street flooding after a major afternoon thunderstorm or so, but it is gone in under an hour.

You stand no more risk of rust on your car here than any other city with similar rainfall. Most car rust comes from salt used to remove ice from roads in northern cities. Hell, one of my cars is 26 years old and has hardly any rust at all. Most cars come with underbody anti rust treatment anyway.

  • NO what usually causes rust is road salt in winter areas. or salt water spray from coastal areas.

  • William K nailed it.

  • No, rust is not a problem at all here.

  • uh no...
  • How much does the Marilyn Monroe suite at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel cost?|196043

Me and two of my friends wanna take a trip to California soon and we were hoping to stay in that suite. I wanted to know like a ballpark area of how much it_s gonna cost and if three people can stay in there.
Never been to Cali and I am very excited to see it. Please let me know. Thanks.

  • Marilyn lived in one of the bungalows on the pool, and her personal mirror is on the second floor near the elevator. Figure on between 3 and 4 hundred per night. I must admit, the hotel is a little dark and spooky but its a blast staying there. There is usually a party every night on the pool and there are always a-list movie stars there.

  • Most people living in the Los Angeles area don_t need to stay in a hotel very often. We have our own homes/apartments.

Why don_t you try calling the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and ask them yourself. They won_t bite. Their toll free number is 1-800-950-7667. It won_t cost you anything, and you_ll know exactly how much. Please note that most hotels will not rent to unchaperoned teens (if you fit in that category). They tend to disturb other guests, and damage the rooms.

When you do come PLEASE, do not refer to our state as _Cali_. Most of us find it insulting to equate our state with a drug city in South America (Cali, Colombia). People living in other states, and Californians too young to understand that the term _Cali_ is intended to be a put down are the only ones that call our state _Cali_.

  • More coin than i got.. peedle said it best .. I don_t think i can add to that, except I have no problem with the term _Cali_. When i see LA (as referring to Los Angeles) or Angelinos for the residents I have been known to go postal, though
  • How many hours does it take to get from pennsylvania to florida?|186386

I live in Saylorsburg PA and i just want to know how many hours it will take to get from PA to FL?

  • A friend of mine in Pittsburgh said it took him and his wife 16 hours to drive to Panama City from Pittsburgh.

  • flying or driving?

  • There is no way you would make it in 14 hours. I have friends who travel from NE PA to FL every year and it is closer to 20 hours with very few stops.

  • It depends on whether you_re flying or driving and where your destination in Florida is. Florida is a huge state. What part of PA is Saylorsburg in?

  • From the eastern part of Pennsylvania down Interstate 95 to the Florida border is approximately 700 miles_ So depending where in Florida and what speed you intend to travel at will determine the hours you willbe driving. A straight drive through at an average of 50mph(including stops) would take 14 hours to get to the border.

  • Saylorsburg to Orlando would be 17.5 hours.

How is the rental market in Kansas City?|156161

I_m an investor and I_d like to know if the rental market is solid in the Kansas City area. Is there any information published with statistics?

  • Lacy, I hope I can help you.

Kansas City hit an all time rental low from about 2005-2006. As of 2007 we have started to rebound. The market is not what is was three or four years ago but it is improving.

Like all cities KC has good and bad areas.

First of all you must pay strict attention to where you are considering investing!
Kansas City, Mo was recently selected as the 16th most violent city in the nation. Read This:
    http://www.turnkeyproperties.org/resourc

    Go to
    http://www.kcpd.org
and look at the crime maps. You can see on these maps the burglary and car theft and even homicide hotspots. Many areas of KC are out of control, if your property is vacant your plumbing, HVAC and even storm doors and gutters will be stripped from the home.

On the other hand there are many great areas of KC that pose great investment potential. I know this market better than most anyone you can find, you can see my information at
    http://www.turnkeyproperties.org
    .

You may also see the Kansas City Investment Properties we have listed at
    http://www.loopnet.com/MyListings/turnke

There are many companies out there trying to sell overpriced real estate with the promise that you will get $XXX.XX in rent, If it would bring that kind of rent it would already be rented.

There is more Kansas City investment property articles and information on my site than you can imagine.

Incidentially I do not buy investment property. I only assist investors with finding, managing and selling there investment property. I have been in property management for nearly 25 years. I have been in KC since 1990.

If you want to know how much your home will rent for read this.

  • What is the easiest and most economic way to get from myrtle beach, SC from Philadelphia, PA?|167071

I have no car, and am looking for the cheapest and fastest way to get to myrtle beach. I_ve seen flights for around $150 - is there another way?

  • 150 is a steal , you couldn_t drive that far without paying more for gas .geyhound i bet is expensive and SLOW .sometimes you can get cheaper airfare on the last minute travel deal websites .

  • If that $150 gets you directly to Myrtle Beach that is a GREAT deal.

  • Go Greyhound!
  • Where is a good place in California to go for the weekend by the beach?|166673

Its for My boyfriends birthday. We have been to San francisco, San Diego, and Santa Barbara. Im looking for a new spot. All suggestions would be helpful

  • Catalina Island is fun though hotels and campgrounds get booked up fast so its best to plan ahead. Taking the boat out of Long Beach is the best way. There are plenty of adventures to be had over there if you have the budget. Also if you drive the 1 through Big Sur starting off in quaint San Luis Obispo and end up in Carmel or Monterey. You can see miles of untouched coast and go down and explore good beaches. Morro bay is awesome and make sure to stop by the Taco temple for a bite.

  • The San Luis Obispo area would be fun. Pismo and Avila Beach are within that area. You could rent ATVs in Pismo and ride the sand dunes. These rent by the day, half day, or hour and they are a blast. There are many hotels located right on the beach in Pismo.

In Avila Beach there_s a great resort called Sycamore Mineral Springs. Each room has its own private hot tub. Some have fresh water but most have natural mineral springs water. You can have a massage in the spa and they also have a wonderful restaurant. Guests can attend Yoga and other classes for free. For more info go to:
    http://www.cheers2wine.com/sycamore-mine

  • Try some of the following:
    Carpinteria
    Laguna Beach
    Pismo Beach

  • long beach.

  • Capenteria,or Big Sur up the Calif. coast.

I_m writing a letter to someone in California and I want them to receive it by Christmas Eve. When should I mail it?

  • I would mail it soon, by Friday at the latest, as Christmas cards and packages are starting to go out in force slowing mail delivery down from the normal 3-5 days to 5-7 days.

  • a day or two at the most its not that far away and first class mail
is moving fast during the christmas season the packages are a bit slower but
    not the first class stuff.
  • What is bad about Austin Tx? I have only heard good things, what are the bad points to living in Austin?|179673

We are a 30 year old lesbian couple looking to move to Austin. We are democratic and laid back, so we chose Austin to look to move to. We_ve done a lot of research and have found out lots about Austin, but it_s all been good!!! There has to be some down sides to living there, doesn_t there? Please tell us all that you can that is bad there. Anything from employment, to bad areas of town, to crime, to weather, anything and everything please. Thanks

  • Actually, there aren_t many cons, but here are a few minor annoyances:

    * For being a rather open-minded community, some of the so-called liberal people here (mostly after a few drinks) are rather close-minded when considering the opposing views of others (regardless of the topic). Rather than having an intelligent, fact-based conversation, they are more interested in repeating rhetoric than actually forming an independent opinion. Granted, most of these folks tend to be younger transplants who are still trying to define themselves and figure out where they fit in.

    * Allergens - Not a problem to me since I am a native, but if you are new to the area and have a history of allergies, be prepared to have some kleenex, visine, and claritin or zyrtec handy.

    * People who live in the surrounding areas outside of the city limits (Leander, Cedar Park, Round Rock, etc.) and think they know everything about Austin While there is nothing wrong with those neighboring communities, they are not in Austin, so don_t be fooled or misled. For example, these are the same folks who will complain about traffic even though it wouldn_t be an issue if they chose not to commute so far.

I hope this helps; good luck on your move!

  • The one complaint you will hear the most is the allergies. They can ruin a perfectly wonderful day or even week for anyone who didn_t grow up in the area.

The crime is mostly vandalism and Austin still ranks as one of the safest (least violent) large cities. It is really easy to get around with or without a car. The people are awesome. The weather is awesome. It was 72 degrees yesterday. The economy is better than the national average. The residents of Austin are fervently pro-local; it is the #1 place to start a small business. I am not making these facts up... you can find most of them on Forbes.com or by googling Austin City Rankings.

We are looking forward to having you!

  • We are also a 30 year old lesbian couple moving there this summer. In my extensive research, it seems like the biggest downside is the heat of the summer and the mosquitos. Where are you moving from? docugrrrl@yahoo.com Jen

  • The only real complaint I have is all the homeless people. They put the 2 biggest shelters downtown, so it_s hard to go out and enjoy yourself at the bars without being harassed by them everywhere.

  • I don_t have any problems with living here.

  • We are the Allergy Capital of the World. Even if you don_t have allergies before you get here, sooner or later SOMETHING will get you. Right now it is _cedar fever._ Half the town is sneezing, wheezing, dripping or at their allergists right now.

The traffic is horrendous. The _locals_ are pretty friendly, but so many people have moved here in the last few years and brought their bad driving habits with them (no offense to you coming from out of town-- just drive friendly!)

Weather in the summer is HOT. Period. Nearly 100 days over 100 degrees last year. If you have plastic or leather seats in your car and you wear shorts, you CAN get burned on the backs of your legs, and YES, you can fry on egg on the sidewalk. The newscasters do that at least once per summer, just to prove that they can. Winters are mild. Hardly anyone even owns a heavy coat, and the once-every-four-years icy/cold spells that we do have tend to shut the entire city down, since no one has snow tires or chains, or shovels, or deicing agents, etc.

Like any town, there are some bad areas. You will get to know them rather quickly. Just avoid them and you should be fine. Most of the crime we do see (at least where I live) is stuff like vandalism, stolen bikes, domestic abuse.

Jobs are a bit scarce here right now. In general, our economy lags behind the rest of the country, so if things are getting better elsewhere, it will still be bad here and vice verse.

A lot of the things that made Austin so unique are being watered down. Like I stated above, so many people have moved here in the past few years that some of the uniquely Austin traits are being infused with outside influences. Not necessarily a bad thing, it just is.

What are some great things to see and do in Philadelphia?|154740

I am planning on taking my kids to Sesame Place which is close to Philadelphia. I would like to get a hotel room while I am there for the weekend and enjoy the city as well. Are there any great recommendations from anyone of things to see and do? Thanks!

  • Here are some things you should look up:

    The Please Touch Museum (Children)

    The Franklin Institute

    The Reading Terminal Market

    Pennslanding

    Camden Aquarium

    Liberty Bell/Constiution Center

    The Duck Boat Tour

    NJ Battle Ships

    The Naval yard

The Art museum (Not fun for children but is free on Sunday mornings)

    And much more!

    Have fun @ Philly!

  • If you_re taking your kids to Sesame Place, I_m guessing they_re pretty young and probably wouldn_t get the whole US history thing yet, such as the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall tours. However you might like to see it, it_s a pretty area and there_s lots to take in. To keep the kids entertained take a ride on the Ducks...It_s an amphibious vessel that drives around the historic areas and also goes into the river. There is also a great museum, the Franklin Institute which is interactive for kids and they love it. As far as a place to stay, I would recommend the Embassy Suites on the Ben Franklin Parkway. You and the kids can have a decent sized room, convenient for walking around and checking things out.
    Have fun!

  • Sesame Place is in Langhorne, but its close to Philly. It will probably be a 45 minute drive from the city. If you stay in Philly you can go see all the historic stuff, that_s always fun. Old City is cute, shops, restaurants, Liberty Bell, the Constitution Center. You can go for a stroll at the zoo..first zoo in America!..have fun

  • The Philadelphia Zoo! Or take one of the tours on the big bus tour. Depending on how old your kids are the Independence Hall and Liberty Bell are also in Philly. Have fun!

  • Definitely get a real Philly Cheesesteak, not some sandwich that they claim it as one at Fuddruckers.

  • eat a real philley cheesestake
  • What is the Yavapai lodge in the Grand Canyon like?|153380

I am going to visit Grand Canyon about in one weak, and stay at Yavapai lodge for 5 days. I want to save money, so thinking to buy some foods and water before I enter the park. Is there a microwave in each room of the Yavapai lodge? Or, do you have any good idea for the meals inside the park?

  • I just stayed at Yavapai Lodge about a month ago. My room did have a small refridgerator, but no microwave oven. That is probably true of most of the rooms at Yavapai, but you would be wise to call and validate.

Yavapai Lodge is nothing fancy, but it is nice and comfortable (and less expensive than the others). Its biggest downside is that of all the park lodges, it is the only one that is not within easy walking distance of the rim. But it is still inside the park, in a nice pine-tree area, and being away from the rim means a bit more peace and quiet. I personally pefer Maswik lodge which is very similar to Yavapai, but near the rim. Yavapai is fine though.

From a saving money on food perspective, one big advantage to Yavapai Lodge is that it is located in the market area - where the small village grocery store is, as well as the post office, etc. You could probably eat pretty cheap by buying stuff at the grocery store - which will be a bit more expensive than one in a big town, but still much cheaper than eating at one of the park sit-down resturants. The store also has a small snackbar area that is probably the cheapest prepared eats at the canyon.

As far as the canyon restuarants go, the cafeterias at Yavapai Lodge and Maswik are the cheapest, but still a bit expensive by outside standards. It depends on what you get, of course, but $8-12 per meal there is probably a pretty normal range for food and drinks. Some of the little tourist resturants outside the park gate at the little roadside community of Tusayan are probably a bit cheaper than the park ones, but not by much and you have the hassle of having to leave the park to reach them. Tusayan has a McDonalds which is probably the cheapest option there.

The nearest _real_ towns with large grocery stores and a wide range of eating options are Flagstaff (.15 hours away) and Williams (1 hour away).

If you are really concerned about food costs, than I would say stock up non-cooking items in Flagstaff (trail mix, a loaf of bread, lunchean meat, PB_J, jerkey, fruit) to keep in the fridge. Nobody goes to the Grand Canyon for the food - do what you need to do to get by and enjoy the sights.

That being said, if you do have a little extra money to splurge a night or two, than I would recommend the Arizona Room grill on the east end of Bright Angel Lodge (have to enter from the outside) - excellent food, great views of the rim, less expensive that El Tovar and better food that Bright Angel.

    Have fun!

  • Yavapi does not have microwaves. It is about a mile from the rim, but there i a free shuttle that will take you all over the park. I recommend taking it because parking at the rim is a nightmare any time of the year. As for food, water, ect. everything in the park is more expensive than if you bought it at home. Mostly because it_s so far from the rest of the world and most companies have to provide housing for their employees. So don_t be surprised if you go to McDonald_s (just outside the park) and have to pay a lot more than normal for you big mac. Also, if you are use to soft water, bring some bottled. The water out of the tap is very _hard_ meaning it contains a lot of minerals and has been known to upset some people_s stomachs.
As for eating inside the park, the El Tovar is the 4 star restaurant in the park and is pricey for dinner, however breakfast is less expensive and they really feed you (you could share a plate). For a good dinner I recommend the Arizona Steak House (they are also a little pricey, but the food is good and you get what you pay for). Also, the Yavapi and Maswik (Maz-wic) have cafeterias. Yavapi has really good fried chicken and Maswik has a little bit of everything. I hope this helps you out.
  • Me + 6 of my girlfriends are going to Las Vegas in August. What is the best hip hop club there or club to go?|178309

None of us have never been to Las Vegas before and I am planning the whole trip and wanted some good advice on some good nightclubs that play mostly hip hop but I can also deal with the other music as well. We will be there July 31st-August 2nd going to see Beyonce August 1st. Please help!! Thank you.

  • The hottest Hip hop spot is poetry at Caesars palace. Poetry is the only club in vegas to play strictly hip hop and r_b. it is becoming a major celeb hot spot and it is not uncommon to bump into snoop on the dance floor.

There are a ton of other great clubs though my personal favorite is Moon and Playboy at the palms. they have a retractible roof which has one of the most amazing views of the strip out there since it is located on the top of the tower. They also have by far the most sophisticated sound system and lighting.

I would suggest you use the party planner
    http://www.cheapvegasclubs.com/yourvegas
its free and that site will plan everything out for you as well as get you in for the cheapest. Passes are $10 and guestlist entry with no line and no cover is only $15 I use them every time and love it

  • I_m going the same weekend!!
Your going to have so much fun! I went for the first time in March, and again last weekend, and now going for my b-day (July 31st) for the weekend, i_m addicted...lol!
Anyways, we went to club Rain at The Palms on Friday cause DJ AM plays there, and it was off the chain...nice system, big dance floor...it was hot!! be prepared for the line though...get there early!
I also went to LAX on saturday and I loved it there also, good music!! that_s where i_m planning to go in July on saturday!!

    Hope that helps!

  • LAX at Luxor is my favorite. DJ AM plays there as well, and a lot of celebs are known to go to LAX. I also like the Christian Audigier club at Treasure Island and Pure at Caesar_s Palace. I_ve never been to Rain at the Palms but I_d imagine that_s a good one for the atmosphere you_re looking for.

  • What is the quickest route from Texas to Wyoming?|103160

We are moving from Corpus Christi,Texas to Rock Springs, Wyoming. We will be traveling with 2 sons and a puppy. Therefore, I need the shortest route with lots of rest stops.

  • You are already on Yahoo so go to maps and ask for a map from CC to Rock Springs.
There isn_t a quick route with lots of rest stops. You will have about 650 miles just to get out of Texas.
Go through San Antonio to up to Aveline, then to Childress. Hit 287 and go to Amarillo. Plan on spending the night there because once you leave Amarillo there isn_t a decent place to stay until you get to Raton, N.M. From Amarillo go to Dumas then to dalhart and Clayton N. M. . At Clayton you will cut north again to Raton, Trinidad, up to Denver. From Denver to Casper Wy. then west to Rock Springs. From Denver to Casper not many stops and from Casper to RS nothing. Trip with the kids, stopping to eat etc. will take 30 + Hrs. about 1500 miles.
Drive careful, be sure to stop when feeling tired. Hwy from San Antonio to Raton is almost all 2 lane so be careful.

  • I grew up in Rock Springs! That_s weird... and why would you want to move there?? lol I think there are about 15,000 people in the whole town.

I-80 goes right through Rock Springs, and you will have to take 25 to get to 80 from TX. There are a lot of long stretches between cities on 80, so there are lots of rest stops along the way.

  • a straight line.

  • Route #41.
  • What are some must haves if renting a cabin in the mountains for 5 days?|105731

It is near civilization and has all the great amenities.

  • Binoculars, books, camera, firewood for ambiance, candles, blankets, and someone to cuddle with on cool evenings.

  • Well for me I would want some kind of snacks, candles, and blankets oh and some warm clothes. If its a cabin that doesnt have water you would deff need water. Also something to keep u busy to relax like a deck of cards or a board game or maybe even something to read. The whole point of going to stay in a cabin (in my opinion) is getting away from everything. So take the things u need and try to stay away from the civilization.....its more peaceful that way!

What are some fun things to do in Burlington, VT with kids?|150892

My two daughters ages 9 and 11 and I will be in Burlington, Vermont for a few days. I_ve never been there before. What are some fun things to do there? We were planning on going on the bike path by Lake Champlain, and a tour of Ben _ Jerry_s, and the teddy bear factory, and maybe a boat ride on Lake Champlain. Any recommendations for a boat tour that would last a couple hours ? They love nature so activities centered on that would be great to hear about. Thanks.

  • WE took in the Fall the SUgarbush Express train from Middlebury, VT to Burlington. It was 1.5 hours and the same back. Good foliage. Burlington has had street performers in the past, but It_s been 5 years since I went last. THere are plenty of restaurants, even one that allow you to order your specific breakfast, omelets to order, waffles freshly made and topped, etc. SHopping. Lots of hilly areas so be prepared. UVermont is there. Check the AAA guide or Mobile guide. I think they had paddle boats at one time too. You can cross into NY and go to Fort Ticonderoga.

My Boyfriend and I are going to Florida in July. How much spending money should we take?|165302

I have paid for my boyfriend and I to go to Florida for 2 weeks in July for his 21st birthday. I have paid for all the flights, car hire and park tickes, also i have family that i can stay with in Winter Park (Florida). We don_t want to stay with family every night as it is a 40 minute drive to disney so we are looking at spending most of our nights in motels. We also want to do a lot of shopping. So how much spending money would you recommend us to take so that we can have a good time and not have to worry about money running out?

  • Motels: $40-60/day
    Meals: $20-60/day
Gas is $2.50 a gallon and your vehicle will do between 15 and 20mpg.

Since you have no other expenses, you should be able to work out how much you need from that.

Minor advice.. buy a cooler and some 24 packs of soda. It will be much cheaper to buy a bag of ice each morning and drink your own soda that you have purchased from the supermarket.

  • That sounds right. Things are extremely expensive there. You stay in motels, that will cost you an arm and leg, if you have to get your money from an insurance company. Tell
Bonnie and Danny in Orlando that granny says hi. Thanks

  • How much you_ll spend on motels will depend a lot on how _high-quality_ you want them to be. There are some very basic (clean, with bed and bath) type motels along Highway 192 near Disney that go for about $30-40 a night. Elsewhere you could pay up to $80-$100 a night or more. Summer is the busy season here, so I strongly recommend making advance reservations for anywhere you want to stay.

As for spending money, a lot depends on where you shop. If you buy souvenirs inside the parks, you_ll spend a fortune. However, there are a lot of gift stores outside of the parks (they look cheesy, but they have decent stuff) where you_ll pay a lot less. There are also a lot of outlet centers around Orlando, if you_re planning to do _real_ shopping, including the Prime Outlets and Lake Buena Vista outlets near Disney and the Belz Factory Outlets north of Universal Studios area.

Finally, you have to consider meals. Park restaurants are unique and often have decent food, but they are VERY expensive. If you eat at restaurants outside the parks you can eat at pretty much any chain restaurant you can think of for a lot less (and probably better food in general).

    I_d figure it this way:

Say you spend 7 nights at a discount motel at $40 a night: that_s $280 (before 20% taxes [seriously, 20%]).

Then figure you eat dinner out every night you_re in Florida, 12-14 nights at about $35 a meal for two (at least): $420-$490

If you also eat breakfast ($10) and lunch ($20) out every day for 12-14 days, you_re talking $120-$140 for breakfast and $240-$280 for lunch

So depending on how long you_re actually staying, how many nights you stay in a motel (and where), and how often you eat out (and where you eat), you_ll need anywhere from $940-$1190 just for a basic motel room and cheap meals. If you eat at nicer restaurants, stay at a nicer hotel/motel, or do more shopping, you_ll want more. Plus the cost of gas is rising, so factor in the cost of filling your car up a few times while you_re here.

I_d say you should start with at least $2000 to cover your basic costs and then add on however much you_ll want to bring for shopping.

  • $10,000
  • How do you gain in state residency in the state of Alabama?|149525

I am an out of state student attending college in Alabama next year and was wondering how to gain residency...I ve researched all of the requirements but there are no guarantees. Does anybody know how?...Or has anyone actually done it before?

    Thanks

  • It really depends on which college you are attending as they all seem to decide residency status on their own. It looks like your biggest obstacle is establishing intent. If you are residing in Alabama for the sole purpose of going to college, then you will not be considered a resident. Some of the requirements I_ve seen include:

_A student must be a citizen of the United States, prove full-time employment within the state of Alabama, provide evidence of having filed an Alabama tax return as a resident of the state of Alabama, and prove continuous residence in the state for a purpose other than attending school._

_Residence in Alabama is residing at a single location with the intent of remaining there indefinitely, as opposed to living in Alabama solely to obtain an education._

_To become a resident of Alabama for tuition purposes, three requirements must be met:

  • What general or grocery stores are there on the North Rim of Grand Canyon?|137885

We are taking a camping trip to the North Rim of Grand Canyon. I need to plan what food I have to take with me and what I can purchase once I get there. Any info would be appreciated as I couldn_t find much online... Thanks!

  • The North Rim of the Grand Canyon (also known as the _Arizona Strip_) is one of the least developed places in the southwest with no major towns and only a few very small communities.

At the North Rim of the National Park itself, there is a gift shop at the lodge that focuses mostly on books, t-shirts, postcards, etc but does have a few other more pratical items like granola bars and sunscreen - but certaily not enough to prepare whole meals (there is a dininghall and snackbar there too).

About an hour north of the park at the crossroads of Jacob Lake, you will find a combination lodge, cafe, store and gas station (Jacob Lake Inn). The store has a couple rows of the most essential food items and supplies - about what you would find in a typical Circle-K or 7-11 convenience store. Although their stock of supplies are limited, their homemade cookies are some of the best in the country and worth stopping for.

The nearest _real store_ to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon would be in the twin communities of Fredonia, Arizona and Kanab, Utah which straddle either side of Arizona-Utah border about an hour further north of Jacob Lake. The last time I was there (about 2 years ago), Fredonia had a small family-run store and the somewhat larger Kanab had the area_s only true full-size, full-service grocery store (Jubilee Foods Store). Kanab is also the closest place to the North Rim where you will find a variety (although limited) of hotels and restuarants. The Rocking V Cafe is excellent.

Beyond Jacob Lake and Fredonia-Kanab, the two next closest good-sized towns (and the last ones that most people are likely to pass through on their way to the North Rim) is Page, Arizona (near Lake Powell) and Saint George, UT. These are both have a wide range of stores, services and facilities.

One final note... due to its lesser visitation and cold snowy winters (the North Rim is at an elevation of 8,000 feet) most of the facilities at the North Rim of the Park (including the store, lodge and visitor center) shut down for the winter in mid-October.
  • What is the cheapest way to get from the airport in Fort Lauderdale to Miami International?|199096

I_m flying into Fort Lauderdal but I_m taking a cruise out of the Port of Miami, and am willing to travel from Fort Lauderdale to the Miami Airport, and then to take a taxi from the Miami Airport to the Port if that would be the cheapest option. Rent a car for the day maybe, and return it to the Miami Airport? Probably not taxi all the way from Fort Lauderdale. What do you guys think?

  • How much does it cost for a one-day spa pass to the Imerial Palace in Las Vegas?|137111

LIke most hotels, the website tells you about the services, but not the prices. I just want to know the cost to use the jacuzzi and sauna for a day. Thanks!

  • i don_t know how much it cost but unless you have been there i would def suggest another hotel because that place is awful

  • Packages start @ $80 and go up to around $500. Most people grab the packages that cost around $150/pp.

To be honest I would check out the spa @ the NY NY or Ceasars. They are both priced better and a much better experience (you do not have to be a hotel guest to make an appt)

  • You can find different rates from:

  • Call the hotel and ask for the spa, They will give you the prices over the phone. If you are a guest sometimes you have specials to use the spa and other services. I was just there 2 weeks ago and noticed specials were offered to the gusts.

  • Imperial Palace use to be considered one of the lower end places, Harrahs Recenlty Purchased the Hotel _ Casino, So upgrades are getting better.

  • The prices are determined at the time of reservation, not online. Call the hotel directly and ask, they all have 800 numbers

  • Where is the best place to meet someone coming in on an international flight at Logan Airport?|186493

A friend and I are meeting in Boston next week - I am flying in domestically and he is coming internationally about a 2 hours after me. Where is the easiest place to meet up in the airport? Is there a particular place for international arrivals?

  • Since you will be flying on a domestic flight, you will arrive into terminal A, B, C/D; depending on which carrier you fly.

    Terminal A: Delta/Continental

    Terminal B: Air Canada/Alaska/America West/American Eagle/American/Spirit/USAirways

    Terminal C/D:AirTran/CapeAir/JetBlue/Midwest/
    United

All international flights from regardless of air carrier coming directly from a destination outside the U.S. will arrive into terminal E. Example, if your friend is coming on a direct flight from Ireland he/she will land into terminal E. However, if they flew Ireland to New York with a continuing or seperate flight into Boston they will arrive into the airline_s domestic terminal.

Once you arrive at your terminal, and after collecting your belongings walk outside any door that leads you to buses. It will be marked overhead with signs. You will stand at the blue bus stop to take the shuttle it also says _T_ with a circle around it. Several different blue buses will arrive. To get you from terminals A-D to E you can take several different buses. It doesn_t matter which of the following you take as they will all make a stop at terminal E.

Shuttle buses making stops at terminal E:
    55-All terminals
    66-All terminals/water shuttle dock
    11-All terminals
    88-All terminals/parking lot

Any/all of those buses will make stops at terminals A through E. This is the best way to get from your terminal to the international terminal to pick up your friend. If you chose to walk within the airport, it can be done but it is a long, long walk and most people do not care to do it.

Once you get off at terminal E, go in on the lower level, which will be the level you exit the bus on. Enter into any door and you will find the international arrivals customs/immigration exit doors. It is located to the right of the restrooms and the left of the only restaurant/bar you will find in the lower level. Also to the left of the Dunkin Donuts.

As an aside, if you will be using public transportation to get to your destination once leaving the airport, you can take bus 33 to the subway_s airport station which you can take into Boston for $2.

  • terminal E is where the international arrivals come in. That_s probably your best bet. Remember that it will also take him time to clear customs and immigration. And you can_t have your phone on in line. So have him call you before he gets off the plane.
  • How old do I have to be to stay in a hotel?|197005

My friend and I are going on a trip and we need to stay in a hotel. How old do you have to be? My friend is 16 and I_ll be 15 and 11 months. Just like a Motel 6 or something cheap.

  • I believe most hotels require at least 18. One I stayed in required at least one person to be at least 21. Your best bet is to call and ask. Some places might not check, but if you look young they might.

  • The hotels that take cash should let you guys in. Because most hotels will take credit and only 18+ have credit legally.

  • get parent to sign a form or something saying it_s ok for you to stay there. call them, they should be able to help you.

How do you get to UC Davis from SF via public transit?|164019

How exactly? I know you take the Amtrak but where? Can anyone give me a detailed answer step by step? How long does it take and how much? How frequent do they run?

  • Get yourself to the Amtrak bus station, either at the Westfield Mall or on the Embarcadero. It takes you over to the station in Emeryville. Catch the train, get off at the downtown Davis station. It_s about a ten-minute walk to campus, or you can catch the Unitrans A bus.

    Amtrak_s number: (800) 872-7245

  • take BART from SF to Richmond. From there you can board the Capitol Corridor Amtrak train. No idea what the time on it would be. I have taken the train from Fairfield to Sacramento and it is approximately 45 minutes.

  • How big is the abercrombie and fitch store in NYC?|148932

Hey just wanna know what is the Abercrombie _ fitch store in NYC like?
How much of a mens collection do they have , do they have much of an accessory range for men also ?
Also whats the difference between A_C and Hollister Clothing quality/price wise??
    Thanks for your help

  • it_s hugeee !! it_s got like idk how many floors about 4 or fivee and each floor is like on mini store within it self i really don_t know about the me stuff cause i mean .. im not a guy but yeah it_s a really pretty store if your talking about the one near 58th cause i think that_s like a major one the other ones kinda like on a boardwalk that ones a lil smaller .. but yeah it_s a really cool stoore with guys outside .. and its not that crowded to like purchase stuff none of those really long lines :]

  • Hollister Co.,Abercrombie _ Fitch, abercrombie, and Gilly Hicks are all owned by the same company so technically they aren_t rivals and most dedicated shoppers know that Abercrombie _ Fitch and abercrombie are more NY glam wear, but Hollister is more CA surf wear, and Gilly Hicks is more of the underwear (or VS) version of them both (although they do sell clothes) Also, Hollister is aimed to sell their clothes to High Schoolers (the sizes are smaller, thus the price is cheaper) Abercrombie _ Fitch is aimed to sell their clothes to College aged kids (the sizes are bigger, thus the prices are bigger) abercrombie(note it_s not called Abercrombie Kids, just abercrombie) is aimed to sell their to preteens (same rule as Hollister) And Gilly Hicks is an undergarnet store, but it also sells clothes is aimed for College age (same rule as Abercrombie _ Fitch)

    http://newyorkforum.us/index.php?showtop

  • Don_t know too much about the men_s section but the store itself is 3 stories, very loud and very crowded. So I_m guessing there has to be a good selection of men_s clothes if the store is that big. I think that both Hollister and A_F are way over priced and usually the material they use to make the clothes never lasts.
  • What is the best bar in Boston to watch a Red Sox away playoff game in Boston?|183043

I am going to be in Boston on Saturday night and am wondering where the best bar to watch the ALCS will be. I am a die hard fan and am coming down from Maine. I_ve been to Gillian_s and that has been fun! Any other suggestions?

  • 2 of my favorite places are right next to each other - DJ_s at the Garden http://www.djsatthegarden.com/ or The Greatest Bar http://www.thegreatestbar.com - DJ_s is less crowded than the Greatest bar and does not charge a cover.

  • the Best Sports Bar in Boston, Is the Best place to Watch the Game

  • anywhere in southy!! great place to hang with actual hard core locals! not the snooty fans that go by the stadium! the house that was in good wil hunting is there!

  • Game On! is usually a pretty cool place to be at for Red Sox games.

  • Phoenix Landing in Central Sq., Cambridge...its a fun type of crowd.

  • Cask and Flagon - however I doubt you could make a bad choice.

How is driving from Salt Lake City to Jackson Hole?|151416

We are planning a trip to the Grand Tetons, and it would be cheaper to fly to Salt Lake City, Utah, and drive up to Jackson Hole in Wyoming.

Does anyone know how the drive is? Is part of the highway dangerous/up in the rocky mountains (like with a cliff on one side)? My worried mom wants to know.

    Thanks

  • I live in Salt Lake and have made that drive many times. It is actually quite pretty and very safe. You are on interstate for about half of it, and 2-4 lane highway the rest. The closer you get to Jackson you will be more wooded, but no cliffs. Tell mom you will be fine. :) Here_s a quick breakfast tip as well. Jedediah_s House of Sourdough for sourdough pancakes. I don_t like pancakes and would drive to Jackson for a stack. Have fun on your trip.

  • fast. got there .5 hours early.

  • straight and fast..last time we went in a rental lincoln 100mph the whole way....

What are the best community colleges in Chicago ?|182638

I_m looking for a college with good transfer rates and offers programs based in Business. So far i have only found Engineering and technology.

  • community college? I don_t think it matters much. find the cheapest. get all A_s and you shouldn_t have a problem transfering to a 4 yr for a BS in business. Some community colleges are now offering 4 yr degrees as well.. check into that. Again.. ALL A_s.

if you_re interested, Northwestern_s Kellog School of Business is one of the top MBA programs in the country.

  • Harold Washington is in the Loop, which is convenient no matter where in the city you live, and it has some amazing faculty. Wright College on the Far Northwest Side is also pretty good. I don_t think you can go wrong with any of the CCCs. Like another poster said, just go, take the classes you need and do as well as you can. They have advisers who can assist you when it comes time to apply and transfer to a four-year school. If you attend a four-year in the area, you can get a very good transfer of credits.

Check out the City Colleges of Chicago Web site below to look up info on HWC, Wright and all the other CCCs.

How to I pay for a toll ticket violation for miami dade county?|168864

I got a ticket for not having 75 cents when I went though the toll. They took down my license plate and gave me a receipt saying where to mail the money to. I lost the receipt, so how do I pay for the ticket?!

  • The same thing happened to me a few months ago, and I have yet to receive anything in the mail. The address on the receipt is:
    FDOT Turnpike Enterprise
    PO Box 310
    Ocoee, Fl 34761-0310

Unfortunately, your receipt gives alot of info, such as the exact toll plaza, the lane number, date, and time. You could try sending in a money order for .75 with as much info as possible, and a copy of your driver_s lisence, or just wait like MLaw says for that summons in the mail.

  • Just wait awhile. They_ll send you a summons. It_ll cost more but you can straighten it out then.

  • go to the miami-dade county website
  • What is the new hot spot for clubbing and dining in vegas?|168759

What is the new hot spot for clubbing and dining in vegas?

  • The newest and hottest Vegas clubs:

XS - At Encore, absolutely amazing. I recommend industry night; Mondays.
The Rose - At Mandalay Bay, opens in a couple weeks.

But the ones everybody is excited about are these; opening December 31st 2009:
    Haze at Aria
    Vanity at Hard Rock
    Eve at City Center

  • The palms is amazing, they have some of the best restraunts and they have the playboy club which is real popular

The venition is so cool there are some of the best clubs and restaurants.

Red Rock which is off the strip has a nice club called cherry and they have a great sushi place and italian.

Mandalay Bay has Rum Jungle, which is a really neat club in THE hotel there is mix.

Basicly all the hotels now have clubs so just roam around and look on each hotels sites.

I would avoid the Hard Rock its very crowded and is extremely small so its pretty annoying.

  • The hottest club right now is XS in Encore. That place is huge and still manages to get overcrowded quite often. If you_re looking to go here, be prepared to pay for a table to enjoy it or else you_ll find yourself rubbing your body against total strangers everywhere you go!

  • Vegas, by definition, is the place to go clubbing. theres no specific place. You just bar hop till you find yourself somewhere you enjoy best
  • What places do i need to go to the Grand Canyon?|179376

Rushmore, Swing thru Colorado, Check out the wagon train tracks and Windlass Hill or the Arches Museum in Nebraska.

  • Visit Sedona, which is around 100 miles south of Grand Canyon in Arizona. It_s absolutely awesome and relaxing.
  • How much does it cost to operate this heater?|178978

    Hi. Please help.

I use a 1200watts heater for 16hours per day. On average, how much($) would you be charged for this per month (in your state)?

If possible, indicate the cost of 1kwh of electricity and how u derived your answer.

    Thanx in advance.

  • My answer is $57.60.

    1200 watts is 1.2 kw. 1.2 kw X 16 hrs = 19.2 kwh every day.

    19.2 kwh X 30 days in a month = 576 kwh every month

    576 kwh x 10 cents/kwh = $57.60

I know the cost of electricity here in Pennsylvania is higher than in other states, so you may have to adjust accordingly.
  • I want to see the real silicon valley for several days, which city should I live?|149652

I want to feel Silicon Valley atmosphere, see some famous IT companies, which city should I live? Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, San Jose or others?

I already booked a hotel in San Francisco for 5 days, and would like to spend several more days in the real Silicon Valley.

  • San Jose is considered the _capital_ of Silicon Valley. Like a previous poster said, Silicon Valley is just a term used in association of the _product_ put out there. I_ve lived in San Jose (suburb: Campbell) for 20 years. It_s a GREAT town to live in. Freeways are much nicer than L.A. and easier to get around on. People don_t drive 105 mph like in L.A. Maybe 95, but not 105, he-he. In San Jose you are within an hour or two or almost anything you_d like to do. Redwood trees and camping up on the Santa Cruz ridge (San Mateo County Campground), Santa Cruz and the beach, San Francisco for fancy restaurants and opera, The Bay, within a couple of hours of snow skiing, when it_s the season. As far as BIG towns go, the Bay Area is IDEAL. Very beautiful and lots of shopping. I LOVE IT HERE!!!

  • I_m not sure how _satisfying_ your visit will be to stand outside the Adobe Software headquarters in San Jose, or walk around the parking lots of some of the Intel buildings in Santa Clara. Do you expect to get some of that Silicon Valley _atmosphere_ driving by the eBay or the Google signs?

Silicon Valley is made up of sprawls of bedroom communities, a few high rise sections, here and there, vast industrial parks, stretching from San Francisco, down the Peninsula all the way down to Gilroy. Plus similar landscapes on the East Bay. You_ll find severel mega malls and hundreds of strip malls. McMansions and severely depressed areas.

You want some of the current Silicon Valley atmosphere? Drop in on one of the many Employment Development Department offices to see people lining up to collect unemployment benefits and get job search help. Drive up and down some of those big housing developments and count the _For Sale_ signs. Take a side trip to one of the seveal _Auto Malls_ to see the empty car dealerships.

I guess it depends on what it is, exactly, you WANT to see. One suggestion: visit the Tech Museum of Innovation in downtown San Jose. It, at least, gives you an optomistic vision of what Silicon Valley has been and what it could be.

  • I_m not sure what exactly you expect to see in Silicon Valley. What makes it _Silicon Valley_ is that many computer/technology companies are there, such as IBM, Apple, Google, Cisco, etc. Maybe you can drive past the corporate offices, but there isn_t much to see besides boxy buildings. And they won_t let random visitors in, due to security and secrecy. If you must see the companies, just take a few hours driving around past select companies.

Still, if you have to stay there, the best place would be Palo Alto, which is really the heart (or rather, brains) of Silicon Valley. While you are there, check out Stanford, take a trip or two to the redwoods, and eat some good food.

  • I would suggest you start from downtown San Jose_s Adobe building. You can even go into the lobby and use their incredibly fancy bathroom. While you_re there, you might want to check out the tech museum. But it_s mostly for kids. From there, grab a day pass on the VTA and take the trolley to Mtn View. The trolley will take you through North San Jose where eBay, Cisco, KLA Tencor, BEA, and host of other companies exists. The trolley will take you to Mtn View where Google calls home. Of course, during the trip, you_ll see INTEL in Santa Clara, Yahoo in Sunnyvale, and zillions of other small start up companies who wants to be the next _Google_. Once you get to Mtn View, check out the computer history museum and the Microsoft campus. Microsoft has HUGE presence in Silicon Valley. And googleplex is walking distance from the Microsoft campus. Of course, once you get to Mtn View, you can than take CalTrain to Palo Alto and check out the facebook building. Check out the house where HP started as well. That_s where I would stop. You can keep going north to redwood city and go to the Oracle campus and say _Hi_ to Larry Ellison ;). Actually, their campus is actually quite nice. They have cafeteria in every building and each of them serve different ethnic food. And yes, it is open to public. Keep going north and you can run into Twitter in SF. I mean, the list of companies are endless and that is why I_d suggest you stop in Palo Alto. Otherwise, you_ll never end the trip.

In short, do the commute that an average engineer would do if they were taking the trolley. Of course, most of them drive to work but if you_re not in a rush to go to the 8:30 meeting, take the trolley and enjoy the view.

  • Palo Alto because it is by Stanford.

When moving to a new city how do you find out what parts of town are good?|168460

I_ll be moving soon for the military (not sure where yet) and I_m wondering how I find out good living areas. Is there a website with neighborhood reviews, or do I look at school reviews? How do I know that I_m not about to rent a place in a bad neighborhood?

  • If you can get a hold of a local realtor. Ask about the disparity in home prices in one part of town versus another part of town. Usually, home prices are a key indicator of affluence. This might translate to what is the good part versus the bad part of town. It_s not always the case though, so probe a little and see if the realtor _will open up_. Good luck.

i just recently moved from long island, to upstate NY and my dad is saying that in rural areas, the rules for driving and such change. does the age you can get a permit change? do the restrictions change? thank you.

  • The rules for GETTING a permit stay the same throughout the state. As for actually USING it, there are varying rules for junior drivers in different parts of the state:

    http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/youngerdriv

  • If you have NYS learner_s permit you can drive with a licensed adult. I_m not sure what he thinks will be different about that. Once you get your license if it is a class DJ, then you have not drive after 9 in the evening or before 5 in the morning.

  • I believe that NYC has rules concerning junior licenses, but that the rest of the state is the same.
  • What is the best way to cope after snowfall?|134268

I am 68 years old and live on my own. I find it very difficult to go out and get any shopping done when there has been a snowfall like recently. Is it possible to buy special footwear that would make it easier to cope with walking on a slippery surface?

  • I_m from Canada where it snows frequently in winter.

Boots with a very rough, bumpy surface are best for snow and ice. Anything smooth is going to let you slip easily and possibly fall.

If you have some kind of hiking or hunting boots, that should do good enough.

It is getting more common in my area for stores to sell strap-on cleats or spikes to get even better traction.

  • First off it is not snowing in Phoenix. It_s about 52 degrees at 5:15pm and is very windy.

This question is probably written by someone who lives north of Phoenix around Flagstaff, Williams, Show Low or Payson. They are getting loads of snow right now.

So I second all the boot comments made above. Walk carefully and don_t slip. Also don_t wear your golf spikes.

  • Well, my first response would be to stay home when it snows. If the forecast calls for snow, go out before it snows to get groceries. Boots are a great thing to have, but really nothing is going to help you if it is really icy out. You need to walk slowly and watch carefully. But I would suggest staying home for a day or two. When did it snow in Phoenix recently?

  • I don_t know why this is in the Phoenix section, but having lived in Chicago most of my life, my suggestions is to buy snow boots. The thick striated rubber soles will keep you from sliding and falling. The lining will keep your feet warm.
  • What time does the mail NORMALLY come for all people of Lexington, Kentucky in Masterson Station?|144780

I have a friend in Alabama leaving for China on June 8th. My letter , sent June 5th, is supposed to get there on June 7th. But, I want to know what time the mail person normallly gets here so that I know if I have enough stamps and what-not. I live in Masterson Station. Can you help?

  • You don_t know what time your own mail person comes???

    1. You could ask other members of your family who may be more observant than yourself.
    2. You could ask neighbors who may be more observant than yourself.
    3. You could have everything ready to go first thing in the morning and watch for the mail person to come. Run out to meet them and ask.
    4. Go to the post office and get the postage determined there. You_re close to the post office on Nandino Blvd. which is open later than some of the other post offices.
    5. Go to
    http://www.usps.com/
    and calculate postage online.
  • What kinds of things have you heard about wisconsin?|143420

I_m just curious, becuase that is where i live. What kinds of things are associtated with WI and why?

  • Well, I am an ex cheddar head. I live in Washington now, and people really never say anything. But here is a joke for you.

How man Illinois people (FIBS) does it take to eat a raccoon?

Three. One to eat the raccoon, and two to watch for cars.

  • Cheese, snow, the Packers - and the St. Croix National River!

  • Other than being cold....nothing.

What are the pros and cons of living in Santa fe,New mexico?|154873

What are the pros and cons of living in New mexico in general?
Do you know any good places?
    Hows the weather?
Im looking for a place thats mostly warm and has nature near it.I also do not wish to live in a big city.
    Thank you

Also what about the the weather, natural disasters, things to worry about, the types of animals/creatures/bugs.

  • I have lived there:

    Cons:
    1. Housing and cost of living is extremely expensive!
    2. Job market is very limited - mostly service related jobs
    3. Winters are cold but not really that bad
    4. Closest airport of any consequence in Albuquerque. Santa Fe does have an airport and has some commuter type service.

    Pros:
    1. Beautiful old city (oldest state capitol in the US)
    2. Vibrant arts/cultural community
    3. Excellent skiing very close (Santa Fe, Taos, etc.)
    4. If you are an artist it is an excellent place to work
    5. Excellent all around outdoor activities close
    6. Has an excellent rail system to and from Albuquerque/Belen/Los Lunas
    7. No natural disasters to speak of (Tornadoes, etc.)
    8. Has 4 distinct seasons. Summers are not too hot and it is a very dry climate (no humidity)

That just about sums it up.

  • winters are fairly cold, its in the middle of nowhere, havent been there but ofviously its beautiful

cost of living is high but not in albekurkie

  • What train do I take from Yankee Stadium to go to World Trade Center and other places of interest?|141518

I will be in New York next week . Never been before and would love to see some of the sites.
I am going to a Yankee Game. How do I get from the stadium to the World Trade Center?
What about Central Park? The Empire State Building?

  • The B, D and 4 trains run from Yankee Stadium down into Manhattan, right through the middle of it. In particular, the B or D train will stop at 86th, 79th and 72nd St right next to Central Park, and at 34th St. right next to the Empire State. You will then want to switch to the A, C, E or 1, 2, 3, or N/R trains to go down to the WTC. Here_s a great Web guide to NYC that is well written and organized and will tell you how to find out anything about NYC

    http://www.findingdulcinea.com/guides/Tr

  • My friend, from Yankee Stadium, you can take the Manhattan-bound (southbound) _B_ or _D_ trains (Orange Line) to 59th Street. Once there you can transfer to the downtown (southbound) _A_ or _C_ trains (Blue Line) to the Chambers Street-WTC.

To go to the Empire State Building from WTC site, take the uptown (northbound) _A_, _C_ or _E_ trains (Blue Line) from Chambers Street-WTC to West 4th Street. At West 4th Street, transfer downstairs to the _B_, _D_, _F_ or _V_ trains (Orange Line). Take the uptown (northbound) train from West 4th Street to 34th Street.

When you exit the subway at 34th Street, walk east 1 block from the subway station to 5th Avenue and 34th Street.

From the Empire State Building to Central Park, well are several ways to get there by subway.

Option 1: take the Queens-bound (northbound) _F_ train (Orange Line Local) from 34th Street to 57th Street. When you get there, exit the subway and walk 2 blocks north along 6th Avenue to 59th Street.

Option 2: take the Queens-bound (northbound) _N_, _R_ or _W_ trains (Yellow Line) or the 57th Street-bound (northbound) _Q_ train (Yellow Line) from 34th Street to 57th Street. When you get there, exit the subway and walk 2 blocks north along Broadway to 59th Street.

    Option 3: take the Queens-bound (northbound) _N_, _R_ or _W_ train from 34th Street to 5th Avenue.

Option 4: take the Bronx-bound (northbound) _B_ or _D_ train (Orange Line) from 34th Street to 59th Street - Columbus Circle.

    or

Option 5: take the Bronx-bound (northbound) _B_ train (Orange Line) from 34th Street to any stop on the _B_ line from 59th Street to 110th Street. The _B_ train makes local stops from 59th Street to 125th Street.

I hope this information is very helpful. If you have any questions or need travel directions while in town, just drop me a line by clicking on the avatar and e-mail icon in the profile. I_ll be glad to help.

    Good luck

Where can I find a place to exchange euros to dollars in portland oregon?|161642

I_m buying something for a friend in europe and WaMu won_t exchange euros to dollars, so where can I find somewhere in portland oregon to exchange them to dollars?

  • Keep them... they_ll be worth more in a few years. You make more money off the e-$ appreciation than the interest rate at the bank.

  • Here are two locations you might try. You can telephone for directions if you are driving (one location is at the Portland Airport:
Foreign Currency Exchange by Travelex Currency
    (503) 222-7483

900 Sw 6th Ave, Portland, OR

Foreign Currency Exchange by Travelex Currency
    (503) 281-3045

7000 Ne Airport Way, #2161, Portland, OR

  • I use Bank of America. I purchase Euros there before a trip and when I return, I deposit the left over Euros into my account at the current exchange rate.

  • Go to PDX airport. They have currency exchange booths in there for the international flights.

  • Use your credit card if you have one.
  • What is there to do for enjoyment in Holland, Michigan?|117043

I am planning on visiting Holland, Michigan in July 2009 for a day and I was wondering what is there to do and see while in Holland, Michigan? Also, what is the best hotel to spend the night at if I decided to spend the night at a hotel in the area. Finally, what are some good restaurants to eat at while in Holland?

  • The beaches are beautiful. I recommend the state park or Kirk park. I think tunnel park sucks. Grand Haven is the best beach but it is a bit of a drive and the town is a zoo.
There is a really nice winery in Fennville that has wonderful tours and good wine. Also in Fennville is a quaint restaurant at Cranes orchard. It features deserts. Most of the restaurants in Holland suck. For a great steak go to Tony_s in Muskegon.

  • there has little nightlife to do, but there has a nice beach if you like.

i would choose to stay in Grand Rapids, (35-45mins drive from Holland). there is more night life, and party happening.

near the beach, there has some restaurant and in summer, the shops are even nicer. very cool.

  • They have the Tulip Festival in June. Other then that you can also swim in Lake Michigan.

  • i love Michigan its the best!

  • i been there and theres the tulip festival and theres the place where they have wooden shoes

  • To be able to move to a better neighborhood should give her a great deal of stability.... Just remember that she may need you to tell her that she made the correct decision....

  • Move where the schools are good and where there_s a lot of other families.

Now taking suggestions for a great vacation destination within the US?|138130

It_s been a long time since my last REAL vacation, and my husband is soon returning from Afghanistan, and I_m thinking about surprising him with a vacation (we haven_t had much of a honeymoon). We_re not beach people; we like beautiful scenery; we enjoy music history; we_re adventurous and active people who like amusements and other thrill-seeking activities. All suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help.

  • To combine thrill seeking _ great scenery consider renting a All Terrain Vehicle) four wheeler) A side by side ATV like the Yamaha Rhino would be a blast. There are many of these rental outlets all across the west. Depending on what kind of scenic areas you enjoy _ season you are visiting would help you to decide where to go. One suggestion is:
South-Central Utah_s 275-mile long Paiute ATV Trail is a loop trail with no beginning and no end! It passes through several towns and has side trails leading to others. Dirt Wheels magazine rated the Paiute ATV Trail as one of the best 15 trails in the country. It has been rated as one of the top 5 trails in the country by ATV Illustrated magazine. Many riders consider the Paiute Trial to be the top US trail. This is a good ride in the early spring or fall.

  • For music history, the first thing that comes to mind is Nashville, TN, as well as Elvis_ home Graceland, also in Tn

  • I would go to Mackinaw Island, MI. If it were my choice. They have a website, I am not sure what it is but just put Mackinaw Island, MI in your search engine. There are no cars allowed on the island so it is nice island you can just walk around at your own pace. Hope this helps.

  • My favorite has always been Mesa Verde, Colorado. It_s a national park. Stay in the Far View Lodge. The lodge is on top of the mountain at 8000 feet and at night you can see for 200 miles in every direction.

If you get tired of dead indians in the park, Arches monument and Zion canyon are close by, as is four corners.

  • Maybe Seattle? It_s beautiful over there with greenery all over. Also, the city center is really nice, lots of stuff to do, shop, visit museums, sightsee. I think there is a Music Experience museum over there.

You could also go snowboarding if you plan to go during snow season. Mt. Rainier is pretty close to there so I_m sure there are a lot of activities, such as hiking or mountain biking.

It_s also only a three-hour drive to Vancouver, so you could pop on over there for a day or two to see the city.

  • If you like the outdoors, Cooperstown New York. It_s a small _baseball_ town, but you truly get an _outdoorsy_ feeling.

  • San fransisco thru the Redwoods to Astoria Oregon, finish with Portland Oregon.

  • NOrth Shore of Minnesota - quite the _artsy_ community in Grand Marais and you could swing over to Hibbing to soak in some Bob Dylan.

  • Eureka Springs, Arkansas sounds exactly like what you want.

  • niagra falls may be touristy, but if you haven_t been there, it really is amazing and awe-inspiring. i highly recommend visiting. also, national parks like those in california and washington are beautiful. hike up the waterfall mt. vernal in california_s yosemite.
