What is the best beach in Southern California?|123548

I am not a tourist and so I do not need touristy info about the beaches. I live in West Hollywood so I just want to know which beach fellow Californians deem the best.

My absolute favorite is Venice, even if it_s not the most glamorous. I am also quite fond of Huntington Beach.

  • Depends on what you want to do.

See the sites: Venice and Santa Monica.

Surfing: Huntington. Next Malibu and Zuma.

Swim with little kids: Mother_s beach.

    Best showers: Leo Carillo.

    Tide pools: I can_t remember.

    Grunion running: varies.

  • Zuma is my fav. it has great waves, you can park outside the beach so you dont have to pay. To drive there its the beautiful drive of malibu and theres a grocery store near buy so you dont have to pay an arm and a leg to have lunch out there.

  • IMHO, it_s Huntington. The right combo of nice, clean, beach, fun things to do off the sand, and some good waves for body surfing. Plus, you can have a fire for an extended evening time.

  • Drive north to the beaches in Malibu - very beautiful and not quite as crowded. My favorites are Point Dume and El Matador.

  • Newport, Huntington, and Zuma

  • Corona del Mar

  • Huntington is kinda dirty. I absolutely love Balboa, Laguna and Capistrano.

  • Venice, I love the atmosphere there.

(I missed that you had Venice as yours)

  • I prefer Manhatten Beach cause_ its clean and theres not a ton of people.

  • corona del mar! i love it cdm. or monarch beach!
  • What is the quickest route between Fresno and San Diego?|121458

Quickest route 405 south to 5? Someone told be to take 210 to 57 to 5? I don_t know what traffic is like through LA. What time is best to go through LA area before 4 or After 7pm? I know the 5 is easiers but isn_t the traffic terrible on it. Thanks for your help.

  • Here is my quickest route and I have driven it often. By doing this route you avoid the traffic issues and you avoid the LA area.

    From Fresno..
Go down the 99 to the 5 freeway.

While on the 5 as you come down the Grapevine you will see HIGHWAY 138. You can only take that EAST. Take it till you get to the 14 freeway then head south.

You will cross HIGHWAY 138 again where it continues, then you take this highway 138 until you get to the 15 freeway.

Take the 15 freeway south towards San Diego and it leads you right into SD.

This route is the least congested and you avoid the LA area.

    99 south to..
    5 south to..
    138 east to..
    14 south to..
    138 east to..
    15 south to
    SAN DIEGO.

It_s alot easier then it sounds here. Look it up on a map/

  • In San Diego, are you going to anywhere near highway 15?

If you_re going to be near the 15 in San Diego, then the 210 will take you all the way to the 15, which might actually be the better way to go.

If you_re not going near the 15 in San Diego, then just consider that the 405 has more carpool lanes than the 5 does, so that might be a better way to go.

Traffic is terrible on ALL freeways between 3 and 7 actually, and there is the potential for tie ups pretty much 24/7. However, the carpool lanes on the 405 really do help.

If you_re traveling by yourself, then just stick with the 5 all the way down. If you look on a map, the 405 is just a big loop of highway 5. They meet twice - once up in Sylmar, and again down in El Toro, however the 5 all the way is a much more direct route and will easily cut about 40-50 miles from your trip, even if you DO run into more traffic.

So, to sum up ... going near the 15? Take the 210 all the way across (it has a carpool almost the whole duration from beginning to end). Travelling not near the 15, but with a friend? Take the 405 because it has more carpool lanes than the 5, even though it_s more miles. Travelling by yourself, not near the 15? Take the 5 because it_s more direct even though it might have more traffic problems.

A word of caution if you do decide on the 5: WATCH YOUR SIGNS ! The East LA interchange can be daunting, but if you pay attention, you_ll do just fine.

    Happy driving !!

Oh yea ... keep your radio on AM 980 and AM 1070 for frequent traffic updates.

    :D

  • Hay Chihuahua! Perro de Lava sounds a lot like Mad Dog!

But he_s right. Cut over Pearblossom Highway (138), and avoid the whole LA traffic scene altogether. I_ve used that cutoff when I want to avoid the usual Friday night getaway traffic to Vegas.

  • take the 99 to 5
go thru the valley and LA and santa ana between 9am and 2pm or after 9pm

  • your best bet is I 5 to hwy 99 and go through LA after 7 or around 2 pm if you are traveling in the afternoon or evening
  • How much does it cost for snowboard rentals in colorado?|107021

How much does it cost for snowboard rentals in colorado?
And where is the best place to snowboard for beginners? it_ll be my first time.

  • Shaped Rental Package $16 $14*
    Performance Shaped Package $21 $18*
Hi Performance Shaped Package $26 $23*
    Child_s Ski Package $9 $8*
    Snowboard Package $21

They said if you call ahead or rent online they give the second price listed - as far as fewest people, I don_t know, I don_t board, but my brother likes Loveland.

  • Berthoud Pass Is NOT a beginer ski area.....It is an EXPERT ONLY backcountry riding experience!

  • The closer you get to any of the resort towns the more they charge. Rent them in Denver or suburbs if flying into DIA. Sent you a link to Berthoud Pass Ski Area on another question of yours that I answered. If you decide to go there get there early because it looks like they limit the number of skiers there per day to 400. I hear that Berthoud Pass is a great place to ski. I haven_t been there myself but I just might try it! Until I read your question I forgot the place existed because they don_t advertise like all the other huge corporately run ski resorts here in Colorado. If you don_t arrive in time to go to Berthoud well you_re still in luck because Winter Park and Mary Jane are just minutes down the other side of the mountain!

  • It will cost about $20-30 for a one day rental which includes your snowboard and boots. It will be closer to $20 if you rent them in Denver and probably closer to $30 to rent them at the ski resort.
  • Disney world for three days amp; universal for two, where is the best place to stay that has good access to both?|146080

We are planning a vacation to orlando and we are doing disney for three days and universal for two days. Where is the best place to stay since we plan on doing both places? Is it expensive to get from Disney to Island of Adventure? Or is there a good go between?

  • Since you are going to Disney the majority of the time I would look into staying on Disney property..free transportation to and from the airport and extended park hours for guests staying on Disney Property, Also Disney can wrap tickets and dining all into your 3 day visit..the 2 Universal days it may be cheaper for you to pick up a rental car on Disney property to get over to universal..

  • Disney- stay at Pop Century its cheaper than most places and free transportation.
Universal- Stay at the Hard Rock Hotel, it is pricey but you will only have a couple minute walk to get there.
We took a cab 2 years ago from Disney to IOA and it cost around $50. You might want to check Mears transportation out.

  • You can stay at the newest value resort the POP CENTURY. It_s cheaper and has a free shuttle to everywhere on Disney property.
Let me know if you have any other questions...I have an online travel website and have done extensive research on Disney.

you can email me at kpfaith3@yahoo.com

  • Do u have a car? More details please...
  • How do I get from Sahara Hotel in the strip (Las Vegas) to Greyhound central bus station in Las Vegas?|157952

What_s the duration? and the rates?

  • take a cab ... only about a five minute drive if that. Might cost less than 10 bucks.

  • Take the Deuce (bus) to Fremont Street. Walk about 3 blocks on Fremont to the Plaza. The Greyhound station is next to the Plaza.

The Deuce bus fare is only $2. It takes a little longer then a taxi but much cheaper. You can take luggage on the Deuce if it_s not crowded. The other route you could take is the 108 that runs on Sahara to the downtown transit center. You would a little farther walk but it wouldn_t be as crowded.

  • You could take a cab, or a city bus to the Greyhound station. The cab driver will know the way. You could also ask the desk clerk at the hotel for directions to the Station. As for duration and rates...you will have to ask those that are in the know like the desk clerk again...or call whom ever it is that you want their rates like Greyhound for their rates, or the cab company or the city transit...your question is a bit vague on this issue.

  • Greyhound is located Downtown next to the Plaza. The Sahara is the north end of The Strip. You can take a cab or ride a bus to Downtown, then walk to Plaza. Bus rides are $2 one trip or $5 per day. Cabs are more $. The walk will take you about 15 minutes, not that far.

  • TAKE THE CAT BUS TO THE DOWNTOWN STATION, WALK TO MAIN STREET AND SOUTH TO THE STATION...(NEXT TO THE PLAZA HOTEL) OR IF YOU HAVE NO LUGGAGE, JUST WALK IT, IT_S ONLY ABOUT A MILE OR SO!!!

  • Just travel north on Las Vegas BLVD to downtown turn left on ogden and right on main street to the Plaza Hotel

  • Gee, have you heard of the Internet, Mapquest, Yahoo Maps, or Google Maps?

  • Take a cab.
  • What made the disney company merge the worldshowcase half of epcot and the futureworld part together?|156111

I watched a documentary on Disney World and it said that future world and world showcase were both two different ideas for a theme park and i was just wondering what made them merge the two ideas. in my opinion they are nothing alike.

  • i watched the same one.

    what i am guessing is:
    1. they didnt want to make 2 separate parks
    2. they both deal with the world, life, and culture, so it seemed best to put them together.

EPCOT stands for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow

community i guess is the world showcase part and tomorrow is the futureworld part

  • Walt Disney innovated the not-traveling carnival called Disneyland.Epcot is a World_s Fair that never stops.Epcot is a combination of human (World Showcase) and corporate (Innoventions) values. Two Epcots would lead to the failure of the corporate one because humans do not hold corporate values.

Walt Disney wanted a balance of corporate and human values. Most have Walt Disney_s view of corporations but a few are libertarian which is a corporate philosophy. One theory why women earn less than men is that they hold human values higher than corporate values.

  • I think they did it to have some variety at epcot...
    and to make it bigger.
at worldshowcase, they dont have big rollercoasters. but in futureworld, they have a lot of stuff to do there for kids.
epcot is considered _the adult park_, so they probably wanted something for the kids (older kids obviously) to do while the adults are having fun at worldshowcase.
basically, when you put these two worlds together, you make a great themepark.

  • I think the idea of putting these two concepts together came from the Worlds Fairs that had been going on since the mid 1800_s. Two of the major features of these fairs were displays of technological inventions and advancements, and national pavilions showing the culture of various countries.

  • Neither was working separately. They couldn_t figure out what was missing and then someone noticed they fit together so they moved the model together and viola, it worked.

  • Both parks on their own were too small. For this reason they merged the two into one larger park.
I agree they are nothing alike.
