What places in New York City are there where you can sit down and get a good view?|171073

A good view of the skyline or nature that_s accessible by train or bus. Somewhere I can just sit down, and read and think.

  • Definitely check out the Brooklyn Heights Promenade.

It_s got a lovely view of lower Manhattan, and there are many benches line the promenade. You can get there pretty easily by taking the R train to Court Street. Get off on the side that says _Montague Street_ and take the elevator to the street.

Walk along Montague Street AWAY from Court Street (Court Street is the busy street that is perpendicular to Montague.) Montegue Street dead ends into the Promenade after 5 blocks or so.

    The view is just breathtaking!

  • The best views of the NYC skyline are from Jersey. You could take the PATH train to Hoboken and sit in the plaza around the corner from the path station. You could take a bus from Port Authority to Weehawken or West NY and sit on a bench on Blvd East, or go over to 38st and the river and take the ferry to weehawken.
    Good Luck

  • Only nature in NYC is Central Park.

To see a panorama skyline you have to get away from the island, like on a ferry. Go to the Statue of Liberty perhaps.
    Or go to NJ.

Otherwise, look up and there_s the skyline all over the city

  • I like Battery Park city, down near where the World Trade Center site. There is a nice park that that runs all the way down to the ferry. Nice way to pass some time.

  • I like Battery Park. Fond memories of sitting there looking out towards the Statue of Liberty and just enjoying the sunshine.

  • central park or top of a high building or empire state building
  • What is the best and inexpensive place for spring break within a few miles from louisiana?|146143

never been before and am planning a trip?

  • Mississippi Gulf Coast ? was it ever rebuilt ? I think the casinos are working

  • thats a crap answer.

  • GULF SHORES !

    check out this one example:
    http://www.gulfshores.com/packages-hot-d

  • Low-limit poker in Lake Charles.

  • I don_t know what you mean by a _few miles_... If you don_t want to stay in Louisiana (At least when I was a student at LSU, there were a lot of us that went to New Orleans), you could go to one of the following: Gulf Shores (MS), Pensacola (FL), and Houston or Galveston (TX). You should go Spring Break in Miami (downtown for Ultra Music Festival or south beach) or Ft. Lauderdale - it_s going to be sooooooooooooo awesome this year.
  • What is the best public transportation to get from Dupont Cir to Annapolis on a day trip?|172032

I_m staying in Dupont Cir, and want to get to Annapolis for the Sailboat show in October. I will have flown in, so have no car.

  • This one sucks. I commute to Annapolis from Georgetown (near DuPont Circle) all the time.

The best bet, is to catch the red line at DuPont Circle, transfer at Metro Center to the orange line and take it all the way to New Carrolton. From there...sigh...you_ll probably have to take a cab. But if you go to metroopensdoors.com they can route it out specifically to see if there is a bus that can take you from the New Carrolton stop to your specific destination in Annapolis

  • There_s always Supershuttle or other van/Limo service which is very pricely - especially from DC.

If you have a credit card, you can reserve a car at
    http://www.flexcar.com
    or
    http://www.zipcar.com
and use the car to drive back and forth to Annapolis - such a service will cost around $80 but gas is included.

There is a MTA commuter bus which travels from New Carrollton to Annapolis but only operates in the rush hour direction (mornings going towards DC and evenings going towards Annapolis). There is no weekend service for the commuter bus.

The last option is taking the Green Line from Gallery Place to Greenbelt, taking the B-30 bus to BWI, taking the Light Rail to Linthicum and another Light Rail to Cromwell and waiting for the #14 bus which goes to Annapolis - too convoluted and too time consuming - even though the service runs 7 days a week.

  • You have two options-- either take the Greyhound or PeterPan bus to Annapolis or rent a car for a day.

To rent a car, take the blue line metro to DCA (National Airport-- takes about 10-15 min from Dupont) and then rent a car from the airport to drive to Annapolis. If you are going on a weekend, you can rent a car for as little as $25-$30 a day from one of the big rental companies. It might be a pain to park the car in Dupont (or it will be really expensive) so you will probably be better off returning it after the trip rather than keeping it for the whole time you are in DC.

If you take the bus, you need to take the red line metro from Dupont to Union Station and go to the bus terminal. I think the bus trip takes about 2.5 hours and leaves a few times each day. You should check out Greyhound or PeterPan_s website for the schedule.
  • What is the youngest age of a child that you have taken or seen at a Disney World fireworks display?|155693

Or any fireworks for that matter. But I am mainly asking because my son will be about 10 months old when we plan to go. And I wanted to know if that could be to young for the fireworks and if I should find someone to watch him while my husband and I go. (Seeing the fireworks over the castle has been a dream of mine for a LONG time).

    Thanks.

  • Hi,
I say definitely take him with you. I have a 10 month right now and I would take him! If only I was in Disney! All my kids have loved the Disney Fireworks from the first time they ever saw them.

If you are concerned about his ears, just be sure to have earplugs or a blanket or something to muffle the sound. Also, you do not have to be right up at the Castle to enjoy the fireworks. Try watching from the Main Street Train Station, or even from the Polynesian Resort beach.

Unless you have relatives or friends traveling with you, I would not bother getting someone to babysit while you watch the fireworks. Take him with you - it will be more special.

For more information about Disney World Fireworks, check out the link below. And don_t forget to see Illuminations over at Epcot - that is my all-time FAVORITE!!

    Have a wonderful trip,
    K

  • Take him with you. Babies love the lights and colors. You may want to cover his ears with something because of the noise, but he will love it.

  • Get some hearing protection for your kiddo and enjoy the fireworks. It_s the noise that usually scares them.

    http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/che

  • About six years ago we seen a 8 or 9 month old little girl who was MESMERIZED by them!! Bring your son, he_ll either love it or fall asleep (especially if you spend some time at magic kingdom, mine do!) And sometimes the noise does scare them but mostly it_s still quieter than our house!!

    Have fun!!!!

  • The youngest child I_ve taken to see the fireworks at Disney was 2 years old, and she was too young. The noise bothered her.

I like the idea from another answer for ear protectors...

It isn_t just the noise though; it can be very crowded and the fireworks are usually done at 10:00 pm, babies are sometimes fussy late in the evening.

If your 10 month old is well rested, and you don_t mind comforting your little one if he gets fussy, then bring him along. On the other hand; it might also be sweet for just you and your husband to see the fireworks on your own.

  • Take him with you. You need to get the child ready for loud noises, and it ahs to happen sometime!

  • I took my then 6-month old to see them in January of last year and he absolutely loved it. He starred wide-eyed, mouth agape and was totally entranced. Remember that besides the noise that someone mentioned from the fireworks that there is music playing too, so if your son is especially sensitive to noise then ear plugs might be the way to go.

Another option if you feel your son might not do well with the noise is to view the fireworks from the California Grill (at the Contemporary Resort - 407-939-3463). The meal is good and the view is fantastic (and no noise!).

    Have a wonferful trip.

  • Where are some cool and fun vacation places for teenagers?|195045

I have a 18 year old and a 15 year old and they love to shop. I want something that they can enjoy.

  • I would say Atlanta if you want shopping..we have the worlds largest aquarium, a great zoo, six flags park, white water (a water park), turner field, and many other things..

We have tons of shopping here..including the mall of Georgia with Macy_s, Dillard_s, Nordstrom, Armani Exchange, Coach, J. Crew, Old Navy, and Pottery Barn to name a few stores.

We are also conveniently located right next to Savannah Georgia and Chattanooga Tennessee which offers swimming, kayaking, canoeing and fishing.

We also have the Atlanta motor speedway, the Atlanta braves games at turner field, the Atlanta hawks basketball games at Phillips arena and the Atlanta falcons games in the Georgia dome..so much to do check it out

  • Beautiful Sunny Southern California. All the tourist attractions similar to Florida ( Disney,Universal,Six Flags) and more Knotts Berry Farm, Seaworld, Santa Monica Pier, Hollywood and Highland in Hollywood, or if you have lots of money, you can shop among the stars on Melrose ave, in Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive...

  • Not sure what area you are in but Myrtle Beach South Carolina and Charleston South Carolina are great fun! Lots of shopping and tons to see and do....

Cherokee North Carolina and Asheville North Carolina are also good spots.

  • Go to the Orlando area. Disney is always fun, especially MGM studios which is meant more for teens and adults. Or you can always go to Universal Studios, walk the beach, etc, etc

  • Cool place for teenagers is Los Angeles.

Universal City Walk is awesome for shopping and just general browsing. You can also go to the original Universal theme park. You are then close enough to go to Hollywood and check that out and also see all of the stars in the sidewalk. Then depending on your tastes, you could go to the beach and/or Santa Monica. You could check out all the museums or just take a short trip up the the 5 freeway and go to Magic Mountain (if they like roller coasters) or take a longer trip over to Disneyland.

I_d say Disneyland is not _all that_, but it depends on your tastes.

There a bunch of other things to do too. If you teenagers are girls, then maybe a stroll down rodeo drive would be cool.

I say, Los Angeles/Hollywood/Beverly Hills/Santa Monica...is pretty exciting for teenagers. You might even see a movie star, although it might be one of those girls driving around drunk and carrying on....poor Britney.
  • How much should a moving company cost?|196405

I_m moving from Tampa, FL to Atlanta, GA. I have a 2 bedroom apt with not a whole lot of stuff and only 6 big pieces of furniture. How much should a good company charge? Can anyone recommend anyone good they have used?

  • Get a transit van and drive it yourself.

  • Too bad that_s not what I asked... where are all the helpful people at?

  • What kind of weather can I expect in San Diego during December?|106623

Mainly I would like to know the temperatures I can expect. I only want to go there if I can enjoy the beach and go swimming. Coming from Boston, so 70 degrees is warm for me. Thanks.

  • I live in SD. Have for my whole life. December can range anywhere from 50-80 degrees during the day, and expect about a 20-30 degree drop at night. It was 88 at my house today, but realize that the temperature varies with where you are in the city, too. Inland tends to be warmer than the coast does, even if you_re just a few miles in.

Water at the beach will be in the 50 degree range in December.

  • type san diego into yahoo weather. or noaa.gov and you will get weather
info. for today and the next ten days that should give you a ballpark
    estimate

  • it_s usually only a bit chilly.
theres that occasional ONE week of rain,
but other than that, winter_s just cloudy, nothing else.

  • sunny. i_ve been there before.. but in summer..
  • What are you supposed to do with salt from the salt flats in Utah?|105263

Someone brought me some as a gift and I_m not sure what I_m suposed to do with it. Thanks!

  • First off, I wouldn_t eat it or use it in cooking.

Second, you could spread it out on your table and race your _hot Wheels_ cars around pretending to set speed records.

You might recognize the Salt Flats from the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 movie - Jack_s ship was stranded on the Salt Flats. So I guess you could claim it as movie memorabilia
