What are the best places to spend a great march vacation in Florida?|186480

With the exception of Key West, Palm Beach, Orlando and Miami Beach thank you.
Looking for a nice hot weather, with warm water and 5 star hotels.

  • Amelia Island. They have the Amelia Island Plantation and The Ritz Carlton.

  • Sanabel and Captiva, on the southwest coast probably do more to _keep out the riff raff_ than any other ocean communities. There is a high fee for crossing the access bridge to the islands, and virtually no parking places or beach access for non-residents. I get around this by paddling my kayak over from the mainland and renting a bike. (I_m riff raff maybe?) Cabbage Key, a little further north is more isolated but they sure do pamper you.

  • Destin FL is beautiful you should check it out.

  • If you_re looking for something a little more relaxing, try Naples, Fort Meyers Beach, or Sanibel Island in SW Florida.

  • Islamorada, Ft lauderdale

  • St.Petersburg, FL

  • Pensacola of course

  • My parents live in Naples _ it is absolutely beautiful! Many upscale restaurants, shops, _ hotels. There is a Ritz-Carlton right on Vanderbilt Beach (see
    http://www.ritzcarlton.com/en/Properties
Very nice dining _ shopping on 5th Ave. in downtown Naples. Pazzo_s has wonderful Italian food _ Tommy Bahama_s is always delicious! The Turtle Club on Vanderbilt beach is very nice for dinner....sit outside on the beach _ watch the sunset while eating.

  • Hot weather in March? You need to go as far south as Miami for that. I don_t think it_s hot in Miami in March. You should look to the Carribbean or Mexico or South America for hot weather in March.
  • Is it safe for a 12 year old to travel to Hawaii alone from Colorado?|167666

My best friend want to come visit me here in Hawaii and my family said they would pay half the price for her to come. Her parents said they want her to go but they don_t think it_s safe. My parents aren_t going to say anything and I won_t either, but I want your opinionif it_ safe or not.

Also, she probably won_t use the uncaccompanied minor service.

  • I flew from the east coast of the US to Maui years ago, as an adult, with a change of planes in LA. I think it might be overwhelming for a 12 year old to have to change planes in that huge place. However, I don_t know this girl and maybe she is super worldly-wise and travel savvy and could handle it. As long as she stays with a crowd of people and doesn_t get off by herself, the safety issue probably isn_t an issue. I don_t know that I would have allowed my 12 year old girl to travel alone without the unaccompanied minor service.

  • My younger eleven year old sister just flew by herself yesterday from San Diego to Illinois. I flew alone when i was just seven from San Diego to Thailand! It is a good experience.
Also you can escort passes that allows you to go to the gate with the minor right until they board. The person receiving the minor can also get an escort pass to meet the child right at the gate they come out of. Personally..i think it is really silly to be that worried over if the child can handle it.

  • I_m 13 years old and I fly to Hawaii by myself every summer to visit my dad. We live in California. And in 20 days I_m about to fly to Israel by myself again from California. It_s definitely safe ^^

  • Depends on the child. If she thinks she can handle finding her flights and everything, then it should be perfectly fine.

  • I think in general it is okay. I_ve seen children on flights before traveling by themselves. Although, I_m not sure I would be okay with it if it was my child.

  • I would allow it IF she used the airport escort when changing planes

  • I did that before when I was just 11. but its best to have an adult with you

  • Here are the two things I would do:

    1. Try to get a direct flight from Denver to Honolulu. I don_t know if anyone does it-I think United does it. It might be more expensive, but it will avoid having to transfer at an airport, and chances are the airport will be a very big airport. For example, I have often transferred at Phoenix International Airport and it took several minutes to find out where my gate was, and then about the same time just to walk to it. Of course, once you_re in airports, it_s very safe because everyone _in-transit_ has already passed security and are only people who are looking for flights-no need to worry about stragglers who will try to walk away with your friend or something. But it_s probably just better to avoid the transfer if you can.

    2. Make sure somebody is there at Honolulu International Airport (well, I am assuming that you_re talking about Honolulu) to greet her so that once she exits the _secured area_ of the airport where she claims her bags that she is not alone-that is where said stragglers might be lurking. If you_re going to meet her, simply arrive at the airport early and you can take a couple minutes to find where the baggage claim is for her flight. That_s what I do whenever I wait for somebody. Then I can greet them immediately when their flight arrives.

    Hope this helps!
  • What is the best way to get from Philadelphia to Rockafeller Center in NYC?|166975

I am traveling with three companions to NYC to see the Conan O_brien Show. We would like to go to the Modern Museum of Art before the show. We have to pick up our tickets at the 30 Rock. Mezz. Before the show begins at 4pm. We would be leaving Philadelphia around 10am. I heard that you can get greyhound tickets for $28.00 on line. But it came up 40? I don_t want to take the Chinatown bus because it leaves you too far away. What is the deal with Princeton NJ? Is that the way to go? And how do I do that?

  • don_t go to chinatown if you want to get to rockefeller center! take the greyhound to port authority bus terminal and you can walk to rockefeller center from there, very easily, pick up the tickets and walk to MOMA. even if it costs more than the bus to chinatown it will be worth it, to avoid the hassle. don_t rent a car, if you are looking to save money, you won_t be able to park it in midtown, except in an expensive garage.

  • If the bus drops you off in Chinatown, NYC, you could very easily take the #6 subway from Canal Street to 51st Street. Rockefeller Center is a 10 minute walk from the subway stop, and the MOMA is a 5 minute walk from there

  • You know what, just rent a car ..... there are really cheep rate available and way more fun to be your own tour guide - get a good map!!!!
  • What is the crime like in El Paso? (should I not stop and stay in a cheaper hotel there?|178073

I_m passing through Texas and it seems like El Paso will be the most convenient place to stay. I_ve heard tons of bad stuff about the crime there.

Is it unwise to stay at a cheaper hotel there for a night by myself? (Also, this close to 4th of July)

  • Don_t stay in El Paso, drive another 40 miles and stay in Las Cruces. If you are going on down I10 turn on Avenida De Mesilla, there_s a La Quinta, Best Western, and a Springhill Suites. There are cheaper motels (god no! Don_t stay at one of these in El Paso!), on main street and motel blvd. If you happen to be going north on I25 there are hotels at the I25/ hwy 70 interchange. Cheaper ones - Go up hwy 70 a block or so and there is a Super 8.

  • god are you high all the crime is in mexico! we are one of the safest cities in texas do your freakin research!

  • Where us the best quiet beach to go to on Jersey Shore?|101377

My friend and I are heading to Jersey Shore tuesday for a couple days. No reservations. And nothing written in stone. We are looking for a cheap getaway. Were going to head to Seaside Park but not reading alot of great reviews about the area. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • At the jersey shore, there are only three that I go to: Wildwood, Sea Isle City, and Avalon. If you want it to be quiet there, don_t go to Wildwood. That is far from quiet. Sea Isle is good though, but I would recommend Avalon or Stone Harbor.
    Have fun!

  • New Jersey beaches are awesome! I have been hearing about a lot of great stuff about Jersey am looking to venture into the places I havent explored. I love learning about new things to do in New Jersey. People make fun of Jersey all the time, but contrary to popular notion, there_s so much to do!

It_s so hard to find new things to do though -- I also sometimes want to deviate from the usual of going to the mall, amusement park, movies, etcetera. I found
    http://www.kangalope.com,
a site that lists different events in New Jersey, and what_s great about it is that it lists hard to find events like fairs and festivals. It also lists the contact information of the event organizers. You also get access to the community who, like you are seeking events in New Jersey as well.

    Check out
    http://www.kangalope.com
for new things to do -- sign up for frequent updates, too. I save time by getting the updates so I don_t have to log on the site every time.

I suggest that you go to other sites too, if you_re looking to connect with people in New Jersey, go to social networking sites that are focused in Jersey. I suggest you go to Ning.com -- it_s a site full of different social networks - or even out venture out through facebook and myspace.

  • island beach state park, its just alittle further than seaside heights. it cost on the weekdays 6 bucks per car. the weekend might be 8 i_m not sure. its a clean beach, they also have bathrooms and showers and a snack shack.

  • Seaside Park is not quiet to me.

    Keep heading south.

If you want seclusion, you could head to Strathmere - 08248

  • Long beach island is quiet, no boardwalk, no rides and by next week..NO KIDS!!

  • Go North. Asbury Park. Stone Pony is there too... where Bruce Springsteen got his start!

  • are nude ones acceptable?
  • Now taking suggestions for a great vacation destination within the US?|102818

It_s been a long time since my last REAL vacation, and my husband is soon returning from Afghanistan, and I_m thinking about surprising him with a vacation (we haven_t had much of a honeymoon). We_re not beach people; we like beautiful scenery; we enjoy music history; we_re adventurous and active people who like amusements and other thrill-seeking activities. All suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help.

  • To combine thrill seeking _ great scenery consider renting a All Terrain Vehicle) four wheeler) A side by side ATV like the Yamaha Rhino would be a blast. There are many of these rental outlets all across the west. Depending on what kind of scenic areas you enjoy _ season you are visiting would help you to decide where to go. One suggestion is:
South-Central Utah_s 275-mile long Paiute ATV Trail is a loop trail with no beginning and no end! It passes through several towns and has side trails leading to others. Dirt Wheels magazine rated the Paiute ATV Trail as one of the best 15 trails in the country. It has been rated as one of the top 5 trails in the country by ATV Illustrated magazine. Many riders consider the Paiute Trial to be the top US trail. This is a good ride in the early spring or fall.

  • For music history, the first thing that comes to mind is Nashville, TN, as well as Elvis_ home Graceland, also in Tn

  • I would go to Mackinaw Island, MI. If it were my choice. They have a website, I am not sure what it is but just put Mackinaw Island, MI in your search engine. There are no cars allowed on the island so it is nice island you can just walk around at your own pace. Hope this helps.

  • My favorite has always been Mesa Verde, Colorado. It_s a national park. Stay in the Far View Lodge. The lodge is on top of the mountain at 8000 feet and at night you can see for 200 miles in every direction.

If you get tired of dead indians in the park, Arches monument and Zion canyon are close by, as is four corners.

  • Maybe Seattle? It_s beautiful over there with greenery all over. Also, the city center is really nice, lots of stuff to do, shop, visit museums, sightsee. I think there is a Music Experience museum over there.

You could also go snowboarding if you plan to go during snow season. Mt. Rainier is pretty close to there so I_m sure there are a lot of activities, such as hiking or mountain biking.

It_s also only a three-hour drive to Vancouver, so you could pop on over there for a day or two to see the city.

  • If you like the outdoors, Cooperstown New York. It_s a small _baseball_ town, but you truly get an _outdoorsy_ feeling.

  • San fransisco thru the Redwoods to Astoria Oregon, finish with Portland Oregon.

  • NOrth Shore of Minnesota - quite the _artsy_ community in Grand Marais and you could swing over to Hibbing to soak in some Bob Dylan.

  • Eureka Springs, Arkansas sounds exactly like what you want.

  • niagra falls may be touristy, but if you haven_t been there, it really is amazing and awe-inspiring. i highly recommend visiting. also, national parks like those in california and washington are beautiful. hike up the waterfall mt. vernal in california_s yosemite.
  • How often do you see a celebrity in person in Los Angeles?|199557

For you Los Angeles natives who live out there, do you see celebrities all the time and just don_t care when you do, or is it rare for most people?

  • If you work or hang out in the right places, you_ll see them all the time. If you_re on the westside where many live, it_s not uncommon. There is lots of filming in Pasadena, so it_s another good place to spot celebs. In Malibu, you might see a couple in the little yogurt place at once. I_m at the Grove most weekends for a few hours waiting for my son and I see celebs every weekend. The funny thing is, no one recognizes them, they don_t look quite the same as they do on tv or in the movies. I do, because of my business, family and growing up here. The other big place to see celebs -- your kid_s private school pick up line.

It_s not really that big of a deal most of the time, although being introduced to George Clooney actually made my knees weak, lol.

  • I_ve seen quite a few stars, although it was at their movie premieres. If you know the right websites to sign up on you can get tickets to attend the premieres for free. You also get free popcorn, soda and validated parking.
99.9% of the time I don_t care. The only person I ever stopped for an autograph was Gary Oldman because my best friend is crazy about him. He is a very nice guy and so was his date. At the same event I was talking to Thandie Newton before the movie and I didn_t know it was her until I saw her on screen.
Reese Witherspoon looks better in person than she does on film.
Everyone else is a lot shorter than you think they would be.

  • I live an hour outside of LA. Most of the time when I go to LA, I don_t see any celebs. But once when I was up there, I saw 3 in one day, all at different parts of the city...Nicholas Cage, Martin Scorscese, and some comedien I can_t remember his name...Another time i saw Orlando bloom in Malibu

  • Well, it depends on your definition of a celebrity. The reality show d-listers are a more common occurence because they are always out making the scene somewhere in Hollywood or Downtown LA. As for reputable celebrities--pretty rare. Maybe once every few years.

  • I have been here 8 years and have seen exactly one. It is very rare to run into one. It is likely you see more but you do not know you did because without the Hollywood makeup, etc., they look a lot like regular people.

  • it_s pretty rare the only famous people i_ve ever seen are Dr.Dre, The Game,Jason Biggs,Seth Green...but it all depends on where you hang out, live or work...

  • i would say it is contingent on where you are; closer to the studios or areas that are frequently filmed - alot...

I would say i see about 2/month on average...

but like others say, it_s no big deal...

  • very rare

once a loooooooooooooong time ago, my buddy saw robin williams and talked to him, he as pretty nice

  • It_s a RARE occasion. I saw more celebrities in my hometown than in LA.

  • It_s rare.

And when we do, it_s no big deal. They_re just people. We don_t worship them like so many do.

  • I shouldn_t say, but every time I look in a mirror .. I see a celebrity..
Its no big thing though.. even us big stars have to use la baignoire once in a while.. but promise you won_t tell

  • Its rare i lived here for 15 years and only seen 3 celebs
