Can someone give me information about the Florida Keys?|158069

I am planning to visit the Miami, Florida area in January. I would like to visit the Keys but time only permits me to stay one night. So it would be most of 2 days, and one night. I would like some suggestions for interesting sights, restaurants, and attractions along the way to Key West, or Key West itself. Thank you.

  • You haven_t listed your age or what you are interested in doing but here goes. I would book a B _ B in Key West as close to Duval Street without being on Duval Street. You can take the Old Town Trolley and Hop on/Hop off all day. Hemingway House is nice as is the nearby lighthouse. The aquarium is top notch and there are all sort of touristy things including shopping in that area. Mallory Square at Sunset if a must do to see the vendors and performers.

There are boats and sea planes that do day trips out to the Dry Tortugas that are fabulous for the day for snorkeling (if you don_t mind the cold), beautiful water, and bird watching. It is about $100 but the boat trip includes 2 meals and a tour of the fort on Garden Key.

There are numerous fantastic restaurants and you really can_t go wrong with the seafood. The bars up and down Duval street usually have live music and lots of people.

Up and down the drive on the Overseas Highway there are numerous places to stop and look like feeding the Tarpons on the North tip of Lower Matacumbe Key at Robbie_s Marina so take your time and enjoy. My favorite restaurants in the Keys include Bentleys at the 81 1/2 Mile Marker in Islamorada, Lazy Days at the 80 Mile Marker in Islamorada, Cafe Sole on Frances Street in Key West, Camille_s in Key West and Blue Heaven in Key West.

  • Mallory Square, on the west end of Duval st. is the place the previous answer referred to. It_s quite a party watching the unusual crowd watch the sunset.
Duval st. is where things happen in Key West and there are lots of restaurants and still a few of the old bars from the days of Hemingway.

  • It has been years since my last trip to the Keys. I was working on a shrimp boat working out of there way back in the eighties. But one of my favorite memories is of all the street vendors/shows on the west side of the island. It used to be called Sunset Beach because you could watch the sun set into the Gulf of Mexico. But there were always stuff like mimes, magicians, and the like. Other than that, it was mostly partying at night. Hope you have a safe and fun trip. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

  • I haven_t been to the Keys in awhile but here are two of my favorite websites that I look at all the time because I love the Keys!!

I do think you should definitely check out Smather_s Park / Beach! It_s beautiful. And Duvall Street is a must-see in Key West!

  • KW is so small that if you just hang out around Duval St., you_ll see most everything of interest.
The trip down on the Overseas Highway is pretty but you don_t have to stop to enjoy it.

What is that asian grocrey store in hawaii?|148888

I used to live in hawaii and I got some _Diamonds of sugar_ there, I really liked them and I know they have them but I can_t remember what it_s called.

  • Diamond is a brand of sugar.
The biggest Asian markets here now are the two Don Quijote (on Kaheka and Makaloa) stores (also on Farrington in Waipahu)
    There is also Marukai
    http://www.marukaihawaii.com/english/Abo
    and Palama Supermarket on Dillingham.
There is a huge candy, nut and snack store in Waipahu called Wholesale Unlimited

    http://www.cybersnacks.net/contact.html

Also, there are many smaller stores - search for _crack seed_ for snacks

  • Don Quijote has a big asian section, we sometimes call it the _Asian Wal-Mart_ because half is American, half is Asian.

  • Ranch 99 in Mapunapuna

  • Shirokiya
  • How do I go from Brooklyn to Washington DC via train or Greyhound?|146971

I_m looking for info on how to catch a train or bus from Brooklyn to Washington DC. I_m aware it_s about a 4 hour commute. What_s the best way? And how/where can I catch it?

  • If you decide to go by train, you would start by taking the subway from Brooklyn into Manhattan, getting off at the Penn Station stop at 34th Street.

At Penn Station you_d get on an Amtrak train heading to Washington, DC. There are two major types of trains: the extra-cost Acela service, which is aimed at expense-account travelers, and the more moderately-priced Regional service trains. There are trains throughout the day.

If you want to go by Greyhound bus, you would take the subway from Brooklyn to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan (at about West 40th Street), where you can catch a bus to Washington, DC.

    Here_s a link to Amtrak_s website:

    http://www.amtrak.com

  • Go to the Brooklyn, NY Greyhound station. The address is:

    BROOKLYN GREYHOUND STA
    288 LIVINGSTON ST
    Brooklyn, NY 11217

and catch the bus going to Washington, DC.

you_re probably gonna have to transfer in Manhattan for the DC bus.

and the trip by bus will take a minimum of 6 hours each way.

the trip will cost about $89 per person.

  • Train is more comfy. Take Acela.

If you decide to do the cheap route ($20+ one way) take the Chinatown express from Chinatown NY to Chinatown DC

or the Peter Pan Bus for a few bucks more.

  • you could check out the many bus services
    from New York to DC
(including Bolt, megabus and other carriers
    as well)
