How long does shipping take from Singapore to CA?|106016

She used a delivery confirmation and it shows that it left Singapore, but still nothing with USPS. She shipped it out October 15th. Do you think I will ever receive the item?

  • It depends on how the item was shipped. If it went by ship then it could take up to 8-10 weeks to arrive; by plane about 2-3 weeks.

It also depends on if it was held up by customs on either or both ends.

  • whats a singapore?
  • Where to go with a dog in the Grand Canyon?|145556

Want to travel with a dog and physically impaired child to the grand canyon. We want to drive it and see as much as possible, not hike it! Any ideas, we are coming from Florida and are heading to LA, planning 2 or 3 days for the GC.

  • I suggest www.nps.gov/grca. They will have all the info about the national park for you. Also check out www.grandcanyon.com.

    Hope it helps.

  • get a handicapped pass at the entrance..you can drive where the buses go behind all the gates (they give you the code). dogs can go anywhere on the paths. With a service dog vest/collar the dog can go anywhere inside too.
Make sure you have your medical conditions to present at the gate, you will drive anywhere you want to and see everything you want to see too.
Ask for the handic\apped access guide and ask for a free access card for handicapped good in any federal park.
  • What should i wear to Disney World in december?|153392

Well, my family has decided that we would be going to Disney World this decemeber and i have NO CLUE what to wear! Should i wear long sleeve shirts? Shorts? Jeans? Hoddies? Tank tops? Please tell me because i am freaking out. Please reply quickly!

  • well the average high temp in dec is 72 but the temps can range from the low 60_s to the low 80_s so you will want to bring a couple pairs of shorts, a couple pairs of capris, and a couple pairs of jeans.
for tops mainly bring t-shirts and bring a light jacket or hoodie cuz the over night lows get down to about 51 so you will want a jacket or hoodie for early in the morning and later at night.
also be sure to bring your bathing suit and definitely wear SNEAKERS!

  • I would bring a nice variety of things. Pack t-shirts and shorts more for the daytime, but have jeans and long sleeve shirts at nights because that_s when it gets colder. I_d bring a hoodie or two but that_s it because you can wear the same hoodie more then once. Unless it_s predicted to be in the 80_s or 90_s I wouldn_t bring any tank tops.

Your best bet is to check the weather and look at what it_s predicted to be while your there and pack based on that.

  • I_m from Florida, and while the days may be a nice 72 and comfy during the day, the nights can get chilly, very quickly.

I would suggest a short sleeved shirt, some jeans and a warm jacket.

But definitely pack a little bit of everything.
I went to the beach for New Years Eve one year and wore a mini skirt and a tank top and was still hot, so what does that tell you about Florida?!
You_ve just got to be prepared for all kinds of weather here in Florida.

Also, I don_t recommend flip flops for a day at Disney. It_s rough on your feet, and honestly, sneakers are your best bet. Then you won_t have to worry about your shoes falling off on any of the rides either.

  • Bring a little bit of everything, the days can be shorts and shirts but nights most likely jeans and hoodies. Right now its cold here (for floridians) and jeans and hoodies would be needed.

  • It depends on the weather.
If it_s hot, shorts and t-shirts
If it_s cold Long sleveed tops/Hoodies jeans
    Just be comfy

  • I would recommend wearing a t-shirt, pants and bring a long sleeve shirt with you just in case if it_s cool outside

  • dec can be tricky==bring short/jeans/ light jacket/short sleeves and comfy sneaks
  • How hard is it to get into Ghostbar in Las Vegas on a Monday night?|140315

My wife and I want to go to Ghostbar on a Monday night. I see on their website that I could sign up to be put on a guestlist and enter without a cover. We don_t want a table or bottle service. How long would we expect to wait in line? When is a good time to arrive to increase our chances of getting in?

  • Monday night is probably the dead-est night of the week for any bar and club. That being said..getting in should be extremely easy with little to no wait. If there is a wait, it_s an artificial line being created to make the bar seem more busy. Good time to arrive..when doors open. maybe shortly after. Since it_s a monday I wouldn_t worry too much..and would just show up whenever..of course within reason.

Here_s a good review on the club from jackcolton.com:

    Have Fun!

    ~G

  • Monday nights aren_t busy at all. You should be able to get in with no problem.

  • I_m not sure whats cracking at the G Bar on mon night. But general rule wit the clubs is get there before 10pm. You want to have an awesome night on a mon? Hit Jet in the Mirage it is banging on Monday.

  • It will be easy because you will be the only ones there.

  • I would check with the club before you go. Sometimes the ultra clubs are closed on slow nights to meet with the IRS and their legal team to find a way around the charges of stiff arming witless tourists that pay big bucks to door men to go to tiny clubs that serve tiny, high priced drinks
  • Anybody know who offers the 3 hour catamaran trip to the Bahamas from Fort Lauderdale or Miami?|119972

How much time do I need to plan for a Mardi Gras Parade in New Orleans?|189755

I am going this weekend, and there is a parade at 6:30. We have dinner reservations at 7:30, so I am wondering if we will be able to see any of it.

  • It would probably be difficult to do both...even if you catch the parade in the beginning of the route. Parades almost always do not start on time or a float breaks down, etc. holding up the parade. Also there will be a ton of street closures in the city. I would skip dinner reservations...just join the bandwagon and get some popeyes for the parade route while you wait.

  • No you will not be able to do both. Anyone who has ever been to a parade can answer this question. Due to the large crowds at Mardi Gras unless your dinner reservations are on the parade route you will not be able to make them if you go to the parade because traffic is stopped for a parade so there will be no getting out to get to your reservations. Also even if the parade begins on time you would have to be at the very beginning of the parade in order to see any of it before going to dinner but you may get to see a band and maybe the kings float before you have to leave for your reservations but you will still probably be late due to traffic. So no you cannot do both unless the parade and dinner are on the same street.

  • There isn_t a short answer to your question, unless it_s _no_. You also don_t provide enough information. Please revise your question with additional info, or just write to one of us on the New Orleans section that regularly answers questions.

    Overview:

All of the parades have set starting points (formation area) and ending points (disbanding area). The route between the two points is usually about 5 miles and the parade moves at a walking pace, so it takes 2 to 3 hours for the parade to finish. Where you are on the route determines when the end of the parade will pass wherever you are. Note that the parades do not all start at the same time, and it_s common for one parade to follow another on the same route.

Most of the parades take about an hour to pass a given point and the larger parades take longer. The super parades (esp. Endymion _ Bacchus) are so long the _tail_ of the parade can still be in the formation area when the _head_ of the parade reaches the disbanding area.

You can get more info on:

  • How far southwest can you go in Utah and still get awesome snow?|141625

I am from southern Ca and want to go to a nice snowy place this year for winter vacation. I know Utah is supposed to have some of the best snow. I went to Mammoth last year which was about a six-hour drive. I am looking to not really have too much longer of a drive than that. So how good of snow conditions -- if at all -- is it near St. George, Utah?

  • You can go to Brian Head ski resort, it_s near Cedar City and has really good snow, and it_s open now, so happy shredding!

P.S. you can check out the the website below to find out info on skiing in Utah.

  • Can a seventeen and sixteen year old rent a hotel room in California?|141163

Legally, you cannot book a room yourselves. And if there is no adult present, that gives the hotel a HUGE liability. I don_t know any hotel that would accept that, although you can try.

  • i think u have to be above 18, but go for it

  • You ahve to be at least 18 to get a hotel room
  • What are good overnight winter camps in South California?|116710

Co-Ed. And also preferably cheap, for around 14 days.
Also that it will have nothing to do with religion and any specific skill.
NOTE: for ages up till 16/17.
I_m 15 years old and wouldn_t mind be a counsler either!

  • Wow, two questions like this in two days.

Actually, most camps are designed for kids 8-12, and the majority of them are in the summer. At most camps, 15YO_s are Jr Counselors (or CIT_s, Counselors in Training). You can find a list of camps in SoCal (there are hundreds) at
    http://www.acacamps.org.

Camp isn_t cheap. If you go as a CIT, prepare to work a lot. You don_t pay to go (and you don_t get paid, either), but you do a lot of work in exchange for staying there.

  • Unfortunately, most of the reservations for almost any camping area are booked way in advance; sometimes months up to one year !!. You will not find anything for this year, but you can look at www.sbcounty.org for another time

What are some of the best souvenir shops in Las Vegas ?|128624

Are there any where I can purchase some items and get them personalized ? What about the place they use to have inside New York New York where you could get your face or any image put inside this glass cube ? Does anyone know what I_m referring to ? I know it was expensive and I_m sure they are at other locations as well.

  • The place in NYNY is still there, as of about 2 months ago. There is a giant souvenir shop at Las Vegas Blvd. (the Strip) and Sahara. It looks like several stores, but they are all connected.

  • Every Casino has their own shops.
For the type of personalised souvenirs your looking for, they would be the best place to look.
Ask at reception on the way in to any casino.
The privately owned gift shops around the city seem to have more standardised gift items.

  • They have one of them stands in front of Imperial Palace

  • the mall lol

  • there are about a million little stores between the casinos. everyone of them is great but i really love the grand caynon souvenir shop by the MGM Grand.

  • Downtown on Freemont has a Gift Shop that carrys everything and its priced pretty good..Watch the show too its great!!!

  • Well, if you check out the Aladdin hotel, the amount of shops is pretty amazing. It_s just like Caesar_s Palace. If you want the cheap little souvenirs and are familiar with Hawaii, there are a couple ABC stores in the Aladdin. Hopefully they_d have the glass cube thing there too, or something similar. To sum it up, the Aladdin has very good shopping. :)
  • We are spending a weeks vacation in Phoenix, Arizona in December. What are some things to do?|193010

Due to some planning mishaps, we_ve ended up with a timeshare in Phoenix. We also have a few days to visit Tuson and Flagstaff as well. Any ideas on interesting or fun things to do or places to go? Any idea would very much be appreciated! Thank you.

  • If you go to Flagstaff I think you can snowboard.

    Check out www.snowbowl.com

  • Aren_t you lucky? Arizona is beautiful this time of year, for Phoenix, visit the Arizona Biltmore, a beautiful example of old Phoenix resorts, inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, to get the flavor of Native America visit the Heard museum. See outstanding cactus and wildflower displays at Desert Botanical Garden and this is just a start. for everything you need to know about the Scottsdale/Phoenix area, visit
    http://www.insider-scottsdale.com
you will also find info about Tucson and Sedona, an absolute must for your visit!

  • hike.. idk

  • Go to Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon. The rocks are spectacular. It_s Tucson, BTW.

  • lots of stuff check out some tourist websites and make some reservations for fun in advance ...if you do some reasearch before you go you will have a great trip

  • golf

  • come visit me!!!

i think the best place for families is the Arizona Science Center. it is fun for everyone. it is in downtown phoenix

in tuscon you should visit old tuscon. i am pretty sure it is open in december, but google it online and make sure.
they have small rides and cool things there.

flagstaff is a fun place too. i suggest if you are into history, visiting the Ridoran mansion on NAU campus. they have a guided tour, and the house is really cool.

you could also go to castle and coasters for fun. it is an amusment park, and has fun rides there, like the log ride, and the two roller coasters.

i suggest that you go on a hike or two, and see the natural beauty of the state. sedona is really pretty, and in sedona, you could visit out of africa. that place is pretty cool.

    have fun on your vacation!!!

  • This is a wonderful time to visit Phoenix. Where you are staying and how comfortable you are driving in Phoenix traffic will impact what is available to you, however, most parts of town have so much to offer that you will never be bored unless you want to be! My favorite holiday events are the Zoolights and Glendale Glitters but there are also many concerts and performances happening this month. I regularly contribute to the Phoenix Blog on HotelsByCity.net at http://www.hotelsbycity.net/blog/usa_arizona_phoenix/ so check there for some ideas, too. Enjoy your trip!

  • In Flagstaff you can do the ski ride at snowbowl which is super pretty, or hit up the rock gym downtown, or go to the Grand Canyon and hike some of the trails, or head to williams and take the train to the grand canyon, in Phx you can go to the Zoo, it_s the best time of the year to do it because it_s not as hot out. Hope that helps!

  • ?? - With or without kids? If with, what ages?

  • There are a lot of theatres and such in Phoenix. If you have children, there is a small theme park off the I-17 and Dunlap that is exciting for them. There are also things AROUND Phoenix to do, such as the Living Pioneer Museum north on I-17, depending on what you want to do and what your interests are.

Flagstaff has a neat downtown area full of specialty shops. There is also the Riordan Mansion, which is a huge old house that was built by two brothers. You can take a tour of one half of the mansion and it is set up like it was when the brother_s lived there with their families (complete with large porch swing in the living room) and the other half has old artifacts (clothing, photo albums, etc) that they allow you to browse. It_s pretty interesting.

If you drive up to Flagstaff, stop by the Montezuma_s Castle.

    http://www.americansouthwest.net/arizona

  • If you have time check out Sedona national park, theres a nice church there. and a desciple of Architect Frank Lloyd Wright Made it its pretty cool. also check out the Mocteszuma castle. thats what its called back in the days people carved their house in the mountain instead of building regular houses. also check out Frank Lloyd wright House. Its open for the public..they have great libraries there as well...so there you go. have fun. oh dont forget the grand canyon south rim.

  • I_ve got a blog packed full of fun things to do in or around the Phoenix area without spending all of your cash. I also have a few various discounts for current attractions that are here for December, including $3-10 off your tickets at Santa_s Theme Park just outside of Phoenix. Take a look and I hope your vaction goes well!
  • What is a great hotel in Dallas to stay at when you have a three year old to entertain?|161207

My husband is going to be in meetings and we are going to tag along. I_m looking for a hotel that is affordable with an indoor pool maybe close to some cool stuff for three year olds to do. P.S. Is there anything cool for a three year old to do in Dallas?

  • The omni dallas is actually a really intereseting hotel if you have kids.

_The Omni Sensational Kids hotel program provides four-diamond service to Omni Hotels_ youngest guests. Your children will enjoy plenty of kid-minded amenities, including suitcases filled with games and books, a goodie bag upon check-in and menu choices prepared especially for young travelers.

Parents are provided with a list of top family attractions in Dallas, local emergency numbers and a safety/first-aid kit which includes a night light and outlet covers._

  • I know dallas like the back of my hand theres not really fun holtels here but what u should do is find a place close to downtown at night its beautiful and the places are awsome. Go to a resturant with ur husband and ur child.By West End there is a speggeti warehouse u will certanly be full there.

Would it be cheaper to commute to NYC from Long Island or Newark?|112948

We are planning on visiting NYC. The hotels in Newark are about 10-20 dollars cheaper than Long Island. The four of us want to see NYC, and would it be cheaper for us to commute from Long Island or Newark?

  • Jersey is always cheaper. But try this

Take Newark to NYC and go to njtransit.com the commuter railroad
take the city on Long Island and go to NY PEnn Station and use either longislandrailroad.com or mta.com and see what the daily off peak rate would be for travel.

Jersey food and all the other stuff is cheaper. No sales tax on food in NJ.

  • Commute from Newark: New Jersey Transit_s more dependable and very few, if any delays.

LIRR: more delays compared to NJT.

  • Cheaper: Newark
    Safer: Long Island
    Shorter Commute: Newark
    More frequent trains: Newark

  • Newark

But Newark is also ALOT less safe than Long Island, there are parts of Newark that you cant really be in after dark, cuz its too dangerous.

  • It_s faster and cheaper from Newark. If you stay in and around your hotel in Newark, you should be fine for safety.
  • What is the prettiest town in Washington?|106086

I_m writing a book and am looking for a small town in Washington, preferably with beautiful scenery where it rains a lot. It also shouldn_t be on a reservation of any kind, near one is fine though. And along any rivers or coast is a plus also. Thanks!

  • The scenery on the peninsula is probably the best. That is where the rain forest is. There are a few small towns there. I_ll post a link with an overview of the coast if that helps.

  • What is the time difference between los angeles and london?|147725

Im going on holiday to los angeles, coming from essex, what is the time difference?
    thanks

  • GMT is 8 hours ahead of PST, so right now it_s 1:20 in the morning in Los Angeles, and 9:20AM in London. A handy website to bookmark is
    http://www.timeanddate.com/

because will tell you the exact time in any city around the world. On most mobile phones you can create clocks for multiple time zones so you can always see what time it is in those locations.

Have a awesome time on your holiday here!

    ~ Pax / Peace : )

  • The time on the west coast of the United States is GMT minus 8. In other words take the current time in London, subtract 8 hours, and that will be the current time in Los Angeles.

Don_t forget that the rules for the Visa Waiver have changed. You must nor apply a few days before departing the U.K. online at _www.cpb.gov_. Look for the _ESTA_ program. Print out a copy and keep it with you. Have a great time here in the U.S.

  • London is 8 hrs ahead of Los angeles and probably about 3 years ahead in the style department. but we have better eateries

  • When it is noon in Los Angeles, it is 8PM in London

  • LA is 8 hours behind London.

  • 8 hours.

  • 9 hours
  • Whats the best and cheapest state to live in?|189748

Me and a couple of my friends want to move out of maryland find a house and jobs and colleges to go to and just start are lives! What is the best place you think that would be?

  • Keep in mind that cheap states are cheap for a reason. Nobody wants to live there. So I would start with southern states.

  • Texas is awesome!! no state taxes, cheap cost of living ie food, housing, weather is great! I like Corpus Christi, it has Texas A _ M right on the gulf of mexico a lot of students live there too, it is a small city on the gulf so the beach is everywhere. :)
  • What is a better mountain to go snowboarding, and also just to hang out? Breckenridge or Aspen?|128618

Also if you know of any other good ones in CO, and UT can you let me know please?

  • If money is not a factor, Aspen is a great choice. Aspen has great skiing options for any level. Plus, Aspen is unique compared to other ski towns in CO because it actually has a 5,000 person year round local population. Therefore it has more character than the other ski towns which are basically cheesy tourist traps. Plus, I_m in my 20s and the nightlife in Aspen is superior to other ski towns. I always have a great time when I go out there.

The skiing sucks at Breckenridge and the town is basically Disney World on ice. Only go there if you_re on a budget.

Steamboat, Telluride and Crested Butte are all quality places to ski with towns that have character. Vail and Copper have good skiing, but the towns feels artificial.

  • I_ve never been to Aspen but I learned to snowboard at Breckenridge. I didn_t think it was that bad and I went during the end of the season. I don_t know that Breckenridge is really that great of a place to hang out just to hang out but I_ve always regarded Aspen as being really snooty.

  • Aspen has four mountains to snowboard on. This will give you choices but you will not get bored if you pick one mountain and stick to it for several days. The town of Aspen is pretty big with many choices of restaurants, clubs and stores. The night life is rockin during winter or summer season.

  • Havent been to aspen, but Breck sucks. Too many flat spots. I ended up walking a lot. Breck is close to Denver though.

I hit Utah this winter for the first time. WAAAAY better then CO! The snow is fantastic, resorts are close to airport, snow is drier, everything is close! Hills are less crowded too. And the runs are overall more challenging.
  • How much money does it cost in denver colorado to go through surgery to get your ears put back?|128220

okay my ears is not like normal people ears would come out i ears is not back like others instead its up sticking out...how long and how much money will it cost to get them put back in the state of colorado?

  • Your insurance probably wouldn_t pay for it because it would be considered _cosmetic surgery._
So, you are probably looking at around $3,000 total at the very most.
    This should include everything.
    Good luck to you, sweetie.

  • you don_t have to have surgery. my dad wore double stick tape behind them to bed for a few years and they became as flat as can be.

  • Maybe Mike Tyson can chew them off for nothing

  • Look in the phone book and call some plastic surgeon offices. You can look up the doctors on line.

    Dex Knows

  • around $1000-$1500 dollars...depends on insurance

  • 2k

  • about the same amount a Shrink charges...

    Get some help my dear

  • Not like normal people ears? There are many people who have ears that stick out. It_s not abnormal. You should be proud of the way you are, and embrace it. If you hate your ears that much, it_s so much more cheaper to just cover then with your hair.

What is the Parking Fee at Maybury State Park in Northville Michigan?|135867

My friends and I are going running there, but the park is 15 miles from home so we have to drive. Anyone who has been there recently know the parking price?

  • If you drive and enter the park with your car, the fees is

Resident Daily State Park Motor Vehicle Permit $6

A Yearly pass is 24 dollars
  • What are some of the most fun things you did while on vacation in Myrtle Beach SC?|136348

We are thinking of going there this summer and I would love to know the best activities around there. Also, activities that are reasonably priced. And if anyone knows of a great hotel/condo for around $100-150 in summer, please let me know. It will be me, my husband and my 13 year old daughter.

  • My favorite place to stay is the Dayton House Resort. It has great pools and a nice lazy river. It is very clean, has nice staff and is in a great neighborhood. (quieter)
I go every spring. My favorite things to do include walking around Broadway at the Beach, going to Myrtle Beach Pelicans games ( a seat right behind home plate can be had for $9!!!!!!!!), walking the beach down to the Pier for exercise everyday while splashing my feet in the water(hey that_s free), going to the Pier 14 to listen to Robert Cooper sing and going to different places to eat. I like the Original Benjamin_s for Calabash (the one on Restaurant Row) and the Carolina Roadhouse is great!

  • Great answer otisisstumpy! I agree totally.
Heres some websites you should check out-

You should go and check out the Dixie Stampede, it is a dinner and a show. its awesome! And you should also go and see a movie on an IMAX screen if you have never done that before.

    Hope these helped!
  • Where should I stay in LA that is near tourist sites?|102824

My friend and I are going to LA for spring break, but we don_t want to spend money on renting a car. So, obviously, we want to be within walking distance of all the fun tourist sites. What part of LA is close to all the fun Hollywood things--The Hollywood Walk of Fame, etc.

Also, if you have any suggestions for must-see sights or activities in LA/Hollywood, that would be REALLY appreciated! Thanks!

  • All the fun/touristy sites are all within miles so a car would be a smart idea.

  • Everything in LA is so spread out that you_ll only be walking distance to one thing. With that said, I suggest the Sunset Plaza Hotel on Sunset Strip. Then you can walk to the fun places on the strip and if you_re down for a pretty long walk, you could still walk to Hollywood Blvd and see Mann_s Chinese, Walk of Fame, Frederick_s of Hollywood, etc.

  • You need a car to see the sights. The sights are so spread out that you will not see a lot if you depend on public transport.

And the part of LA close to the walk of fame is called _Hollywood_

But remember that you can _do_ the Hollywood area in 4-5 hours. And then take the subway to Universal Studios for a whole day there.

Other than those 2 days, everything is 2-4 hours away from that area by bus.

  • The best you can do is search for hotel in
    http://www.easydestination.net
Website shows nearest tourist site with each hotel.

  • There are literally hundreds of things to do here in LA. Here is my list of must sees. Visit as many as you have time for.:

Disneyland: The Happiest Place on Earth. Half a billion visitors cant be wrong. #1 Destination in SoCal.
Universal Studios: A theme park that grew out of a studio tour. #2 Destination
Even if you dont visit Disneyland or Universal Studios Tour, Downtown Disney District and Universal City Walk are very fun places to visit for shopping and eating. And theyre free to visit.

Hollywood: Enjoy the Walk of Fame, Entertainment Museum, Chinese Theater and more. You can see a lot for free. The Hollywood _ Highland complex is AMAZING. It has lots of shops and restaurants, and the Kodak Theater (home of the Academy Awards). I also like the El Capitan theater, right across the street. And the Hollywood Bowl is a GREAT place to listen to concerts outdoors.

Rodeo Drive, 90210: Packed with exclusive shops, full of gawkers. They all came to enjoy the excess. Free, unless you intend to buy something.

Venice Beach: Los Angeles kitsch and over-the-top culture at its best. Here you_ll find Muscle Beach, street performers and tacky shops galore. Fun, VERY interesting, but I avoid it after dark, when it gets a little TOO interesting for my taste.

Santa Monica Beach and Pier: Great beach scene and a classic seaside amusement park, complete with antique carousel that has been in a lot of TV and movies.

Santa Monica Third Street Promenade - Downtown Santa Monica_s shopping promenade is often the scene of movie star-sightings.

Sunset Boulevard: Perhaps one of the world_s most famous streets, it began as a route between the stars_ posh neighborhoods and the Hollywood studios. It runs from downtown to the ocean, passing through the _Sunset Strip_ on its way. It makes for a fun drive. When you get to the ocean, stop at Gladstone_s for Fish.

Queen Mary: Once the largest ship afloat, she_s been docked in Long Beach for longer than she sailed, and her elegance never fails to impress. Free to visit. You can actually stay on board, for a price.

Farmers Market and The Grove - A new shopping complex right next to a Los Angeles landmark, The Grove and Farmers Market coexist. Enjoy a movie or shopping, and then take the trolley to the Farmers Market for lunch or dinner. It is right next to CBS, so walk across the lot to see if they are taping _The Price is Right_. You might even get in.

TAAB: The Americana at Brand- The newly opened TAAB, developed by the same group that gave us The Grove, breathes new life into Glendale, and gives all those hip people in Eagle Rock and the eastern half of LA a great place to go.

Griffith Park - Home of the Los Angeles Zoo, Griffith Park Observatory, Travel Town, the Greek Theatre, and Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage.

Getty Museum - The Getty_s architecture is so beautiful that it keeps me fascinated. No matter whether you like their art or architecture better (or maybe you_ll just enjoy the view), the Getty is sure to please. Free.

Attend a TV taping - You can get free tickets at audiencesunlimited.com, tvtix.com, or see the booth at Universal City walk. It_s very interesting to see a show being taped. The most popular, by far, is the Tonight show with Jay Leno. Check the NBC web site for all the details there.

    Places to eat:
In-N-Out Burger: Multiple locations, best burger in LA, ask anyone.
Pinks Hot Dogs: 709 N. La Brea, just north of Melrose. You might even see a celebrity. Maybe.
Tommys Chili Burgers: Look for the shack, an LA tradition. The original location is at Beverly _ Rampart, a couple miles west of downtown.
Canters Deli: 419 N. Fairfax, between Beverly _ Melrose. Near CBS, you might spot a celebrity.
Phillippes: 1001 N. Alameda. Great roast beef sandwiches. Near Union Station and Olvera Street. Watch the mustard, its hot.
The Pantry: Corner of Figueroa and 9th, downtown. Huge portions, they never close, GREAT steak and eggs.

    Places to Stay:
Since LA is so spread out, there is no single place that is close to EVERYTHING. Most people who come here tend to stay in Hollywood, Santa Monica, or Anaheim.
In Hollywood, I recommend the Renaissance Hotel at Hollywood and Highland, the Best Western Sunset Plaza, or the Holiday Inn Walk of Fame.
In Santa Monica, the Holiday Inn Santa Monica is close to the pier and reasonably priced.
In Anaheim, I recommend the Howard Johnson (HoJo) Anaheim, and the Candy Cane Inn.

    Places to Shop:
    Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica
    The Grove, Los Angeles
    Americana @ Brand, Glendale
    Beverly Center, Los Angeles
    Citadel Outlets, Commerce
    Brea Mall, Brea
    The Block at Orange, Orange
    South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa
    Fashion Island, Newport Beach
    Santee Alley, Los Angeles
  • Where are safe areas to live for military famlies in hawaii?|159923

Id be working in Western Central part of Oahu. I would like to find an apartment in a nice very safe area and preferably closely located to a commissary so I can do our shopping. I_ve stayed on the west side of the island and its loaded with hobos and shanty towns ewww.
    .

  • Kapolei, Waialua, Salt Lake, and Moanalua are very safe for military families. Kaneohe and Kailua are safe too, but they are located on East Oahu.

Out of those, Salt Lake and Moanalua are the best areas for military families because it is close to a commissary.

  • I advise you not say that around locals from the west side because I have family there and just because you_ve seen hobo_s and ghetto houses doesn_t mean everyone lives like that, good people come from the west side; its very ignorant for you to insult where i come from.
I would say Mililani is the best place to live, there are lots of nice town houses, single family homes, definitely an upgrade from the west side and mililani is not very far from Scholfield and Wheeler army airfield.

  • For pearl Harbor area, Pearlridge/Aiea area, see realestate office Bill Ramsey on 6th floor of bank of Hawaii building on Poli Momi st. across from pearlridge shopping center for a free updated list of appartments for rent. I like the highrises on Koauka loop close to pearlridge.

For middle Island area, Mililani is nice. I lived in both areas.

  • We are a military family living in Hawaii. We bought a house in Kapolei and LOVE it! Beautiful views, nice people.

But we don_t live close to a commissary. There is a tiny one in Barbers Point, but nothing to brag about.

If living next to a commissary is really important to you, I suggest you live on base/post.

  • I would look in the Mililani area - it will be close to the base that is near Wahiawa (I can_t remember the name of the base right now!)

  • Oh, gee I am so sorry you had to deal with poor people. Ever thought of helping instead of judging? Just might get you farther while you are living here.

  • I just move here too any info you find out be nice if you pass it along thanks

  • what about living on base?
  • Does anyone know of a good family mini getaway?|144463

My husband and I are planning a 3-4 day getaway with our 8 year old. We currently live in California and would like to stay away from Disneyland. Does anyone know where we could get away without breaking the bank?

  • San Antonio, Texas
    OR
    Austin, Texas.
    Both beautiful cities.
    You wont be disspointed_3

  • Many museums have free admission days. It might be crowded, but fun none the less. All local museums near my area have free days posted on their website. You should check it out. It might not take up 3-4 days but it can be nice stops or if you are in an area near the museum.

Another option is a national park. Reserving a camp site for a couple days is pretty cheap. You can use your own tent and equipment or theirs.

  • the zoo and science centres and museums are a lot of fun. Im not in the California area but here we have a place called medieval times where its like a dinner theatre with a battle and dinner. A watter park could be fun too. a good way to cool down

  • you could drive up north to washington state and just hang out around there or drive up to maybe even see a little of canada

What is the the old Avalon nightclub in Boston now?|122176

What did the old Avalon/Axis turn into? Tequila rain and Taboo?

    Is it nice?

  • They are turning the old Avalon, Embassy, and Axis into a House of Blues. Tequila Rain is there too, but it_s not the old Avalon. It_s next to it. It_s not bad. There are other better options, but give it a try. There_s also Jake Ivory_s (piano bar), Jillian_s, and Bill_s Bar (horrible!) right next to it.

_On January 29, 2008 The Boston Globe reported that Boston entertainment prince Patrick T. Lyons, in the midst of a multimillion-dollar renovation of his Lansdowne Street clubs behind Fenway Park, has sold them to the House of Blues chain. Boston_s new House of Blues, with about 50,000 square feet (4,600 m2), limited seating, and VIP boxes, would be unique..._

Anyone know a good place to go with a large group of friends and family near the Longwood Garden in PA?|195215

My family and I are planning to go to the Longwood Garden on June 28th but the water fountain show isn_t going to be playing that day because of the Philadelphia orquestra is scheduled to play instead.

Are there any other good attractions nearby the Garden?

    thankss!

  • This site has a list of attractions around there:
    http://www.historickennettsquare.com/attractions.html

    Hope it helps!

  • I assume you mean locally...The Brandywine River Museum is fun for all ages...keeping with the outdoor theme you can go to Winterthur...try the Chadsford Winery- depending on the day they have outdoor concerts. Those are a few ideas.
  • How get from Bloomington, IN to Indianapolis, IN and back?|154815

I would like to attend a krav maga class in Indianapolis, IN but I am attending Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. I will not have a car there, so I need some means of transportation to get to and from the krav maga class. Any suggestions?

  • find a friend that has a car and will be going the general same way, hitch a ride with them.. You should suggest to pay for gas or something. If it works out your transportation needs will be over.

That will get you from Bloomington airport and back from Indy airport. You will have to catch rides or taxis from/to the airports.

  • walk, hitch, bum a ride, skateboard, bike...
  • When is the best time to travel to the United States of America?|141089

My fiance and I are planning to have our honeymoon to the States but we_re not sure whether it_ll be a good time to travel at the end of december as our wedding will be at that time. We_re not sure where to go to spend the new year but we_d love to go to places where there_ll be fireworks and lots of people gathered for the final countdowns. Please advise us! Thanks

  • New Orleans for New Years is exciting and off beat. Definitely less pricey than New York but warmer. Stick around for a bit since Mardi Gras is early this year and collect some beads.

  • This is such a subjective question and the USA is such a large country. For New Years Eve, New York_s Time Square might be the spot, but on Jan. 2, head down to Florida.
Then again I am not a winter person. I love the beach and not the ski slopes. If snow is what you want you can find that also in the northern States, Colorado, Minnesota etc.

Las Vegas, Nevada is warmer than New York and has lots of lights and activity. You would have a wonderful time. It is a city of casino_s but there are shows and just sightseeing is lots of fun! Best Wishes on your new life together!!!!

  • Well New Year_s in New York City can_t be beat but it_s kind of cold there and pretty pricey. But it depends on were you_re going for the best time of the year. Winter in the South has nice weather or the West Coast also has some good weather this time of year. And it depends on what kind of weather you like or can_t stand. But there_s always big celebrations for New Years all across the country, so decide were you want to go then see what the festivities are going to be.

  • Well, New York City is the classic spot for New Year_s Eve. You_ll have plenty of crowds in Times Square for that party! But be prepared for it to be a bit chilly.

Congratulations and Good Luck! Hope you enjoy yourselves wherever you decide to go!

  • I think that New Orleans is dazzling, but stick to the French Quarter and Algiers and avoid the poor area that borders Congo Park. I think this would be a much cheaper option than New York and is much warmer. New York is always an attractive option of course, and Time Square must be wonderful on New Year_s Eve.

What is the best way to travel from New York City to Portland Maine and back?|108500

I will be flying from Seattle to NYC in April and want to make a trip to Portland, Maine during my time there. Flying seems to be too expensive. What would you recommend for trains and/or buses? I_ve been to NYC before but never north of there. Thank you.

  • Yes, the bus from the Port Authority Bus Terminal near Times Square may be good alternative. The train is more expensive and at least with the bus, there is a bus heading to Boston most likely every hour and then you will connect to Portland from Boston.

Jetblue is flying to Portland starting in May and the prices are reasonable ($59 one way).

  • Train to Boston, then to Portland. Bus the same way. Check Amtrak.com and Trailways, peter pan bus lines.
  • What is the easiet way to leave Citi Field in Queens NY and get on the Grand Central Parkway West?|108981

  • How long and how much would it cost to travel 418 km and back?|106200

I need to know how much it would cost if the gas was 1.60 per gallon.

  • That depends upon how many km/miles per gallon your
car gets.To figure out this problem you need to divide
836 (km - distance to go there and back) by your average
speed (km/h). Multiply that number by $1.60 and you will
    have your gas cost.

What is the best way to plan a trip to New York?|129294

I am going with three of my friends, we are all 20 and live in Southern Ohio, we are planning on taking a greyhound bus (17 hours both ways) for a total of 190 a person, and staying at a youth hostel 8 bedroom for 120 dollars for three nights, four days, is this a good idea or does anyone have any better ideas? And is there a good order to visit everything in Manhattan? How much cash?

  • None of you have a car? If you could come up with a car you_d save big bucks. $190 times three equals $570. The drive from Cincinnati to NYC is 664 miles, which is like 12 hours. Already you_ve gained half a day of time in NYC, 10 hours saved arriving and leaving by car, compared to the 17 hours it takes by bus. Gas would cost about $100 each way, or $200 roundtrip. You cut your costs by 2/3 there. I attached some links to non-scary hostels as well.

    Must sees..

Start north and head south. WALK as much as possible, lower Manhattan has compact blocks and you_ll see so much more versus taking the subway from place to place.

First, the Museum of Natural History (dinosaurs, etc) and a hike in Central Park_s south end (famous movie/tv views)...then maybe head over to Rockefeller Center and Times Square. The Empire State Building is nearby.
Check out the awesome Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) on 53rd Street. Then south to Times Square and the Theater District, do it at night if you can. The area around NYU in the East Village is hipster central and a place to not miss if you_re 20. Check out the Washington Square Park area and the nightlife scene around St Marks Place. Greenwich Village and SOHO(shopping) are great areas to walk around. The Village is full of history and just plain fun to hang out in, especially on a weekend. Be sure to go to the Ground Zero site at the World Trade Center, kind of a powerful experience. On a weekday, if you_re in the area...check out Wall Street which is south of the World Trade Center.
    Have fun!
  • What is there to do on Smith Barracks in Baumholder Germany?|127203

We are moving there at the end of this year and I would like to know from people that have lived there what it_s like. Also what it_s like off post and what is there to do in the city of Baumholder.

  • I was not stationed there for my tour of Germany, I was at Fliegerhourse Kassern out of Hanau.

I would take USO tours al over Germany. The boat trip on the Rhine was just wonderful. Trips to Paris and London were also great. Don_t miss Heidelburg, if you don_t go you_ll regret it.

I also took trips to Italy. Lake Como was very expensive, but worth every penny.

    Look around, enjoy

The EM, NCO or Officers clubs sometimes put on shows.

  • Baumholder is a small town and there_s not much going on in it. In fact, there_s really not much to do in that part of Germany because it_s mostly used for industry and military purposes. Baumholder can be really boring if you stay on post and don_t get out of the area.

The good news is you_re in Europe! You can spend your weekends exploring and sight seeing. MWR offers cheap trips for government officials and their family members.

On post activities include the movie theater, PX, shooting ranges, indoor swimming, gyms, track _ field activities, education center (for college courses), library, fast food (burger king, popeyes, anthony_s pizza, taco bell), and commissary. There_s more, but that_s just off the top of my head.

The weather is horrible! Baumholder is at a high elevation and you_re going to see lots of clouds, rain, and snow (the last couple of years have been light winters).

Soldiers stationed there are constantly in the field or deployed. It_s all about training there.

To make the best of your stay, I_d suggest getting out of Baumholder as much as possible. Take advantage of being in Europe and enjoy the culture.

For more information, visit the Army in Baumholder website:

  • What special events are occurring in Chicago the week of May 7th?|108577

What special events are occurring in Chicago the week of May 7th? I_m a small town businessman (banking and finance) and will be in Chicago the week of May 7th. What is going on that week that if I attend may help me return a better business person?

  • On May 2nd there is the Polish Parade
  • What is the best thing to do in hollywood?|139806

Me and my mom are going to hollywood for the weekend and i am trying to find something that we could do. I don_t want to do anything really touristy or boring!

  • Go clubbing and eat at fancy restaurants! !

  • Hmm, Hollywood is perhaps one of the most touristy areas in Los Angeles. That doesn_t mean it_s not fun though. A lesser-known music venue is The Hotel Cafe; it_s very intimate, low-key, etc. Pantages Theatre is well-known but is great (it_s playing Wicked right now).

The LA tourism bureau_s website might help you out. Here_s their guide to Hollywood:
    http://www.discoverlosangeles.com/visito

You actually might like West Hollywood better, which is 15-20 minutes west. It_s much very hip and has a lot of cool places to hang out and explore.

  • The best thing to do in Hollywood? Try (if you can) to avoid all the prostitutes, homeless, beggars, pick-pockets, run-away kids (most of whom came here to _become an actor_),_dopers_, and of course , all the TOURISTS.

PS. Don_t expect to see any celebrities there. They don_t come to Hollywood unless they are required to attend an event.

  • I don_t get it. Why go to Hollywood if you don_t want anything touristy? Heck, I_m LOCAL and that_s exactly why I go there. It might be touristy, but it_s ultimately entertaining and NEVER boring. Never. EVER.

In addition to the Hollywood _ Highland Complex (and yes, UWink is a HOOT), you also have the Chinese Theater, Walk of Fame, and the El Capitan right across the street. The Pantages (where Wicked is playing) is just a few blocks away. You could easily spend all day in the H_H complex. You could also jump on the Red Line Subway to Universal City Walk. More places to eat and shop. Touristy? Yeah. Boring? Not even. How about some skydiving lessons at I Fly Hollywood (iflyhollywood.com), or a little cosmic bowling next door? Did you like the movie Forrest Gump? Then stop in for some shrimp at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company.

    Have fun!

  • Maybe try exploring Haunted Hollywood. All sorts of locales around the Hollywood area are said to be haunted. Maybe you_ll see Marilyn Monroe_s ghost!

Here_s a good website to learn about some of the area_s hot spots for ghost activity!

  • Hollywood and Highland. Specially Friday and Saturday night.

  • uwink, h_h center, fancy restaunts, famous people spottign hahah

  • Visit hollywood walk of fame. Its actually very pretty.

  • Listen to Obviousman.

  • i would stay away from hollywood ... too many seedy people there

  • See Wicked.
  • What are the apartments in that private area in Chicago called?|195501

Now I can_t seem to locate this area on a map, but I_ve gotten stuck there before and its hard to find your way out. The entire area in downtown Chicago is full of fancy apartments with doormen and such and is elevated to where if you walk around that area you come to a bunch of terraces overlooking Chicago. There are stairs that bring you down to parking areas and such and I remember a grand staircase like park area somewhere nearby. Can anyone find this area on a map?

  • Look just east of Michigan Ave and west of Lakeshore Dr., north of the Chicago River. Also, it can be just about anywhere just west of Lakeshore Dr. north of where I mentioned above.

  • Maybe you_re thinking of the area along E. Randolph.
  • How can i find an email address of someone i know in arroyo grande California?|192239

i only have an old postal address, and im on the other side of the world.

  • Try
    http://www.people-info.info
,it can help you after you submit the person_s name, this site has the largest email search database, it can help you find what you want, just have a try,it indeed works.
    Good luck!:)

  • Write them and ask for it....I am unaware of any e-mail directory like a phone book...

  • you can do a reverse address search to try and find their current phone number but to get an email address, you would need to ask them directly.
    Good luck!

  • why you don_t try sending a letter to that old postal address?? Maybe you contact directly with this person. It_s too dificult almost impossible that you can find an e-mail address from this person..i think you should do that
    Good Luck!
  • How do I get to major tourist sites from Union Station?|105719

I live in the western suburbs and take the Metra-BNSF line into Chicago, which ends at Union Station. I want to know what buses/El trains I should take to get me to these places:

    Lincon Park Zoo
    Museum of Science and Industry
    Museum Campus
    Chinatown
    Navy Pier
    North Michigan Ave. (Magnificent Mile)

Some places I haven_t been to and would like to know how to get there. Others I have been to, but may be taking a longer route than neccesary. I_m also not planning to visit all of these places at once. Just over a few weekends in the summer. I have a CTA _Chicago card,_ so i don_t have to worry about the upcoming fare increases.

  • Check out the RTA_s online trip planner:

    http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com/

Also go to the CTA_s webpage for information, instructions and route maps. Here is the URL:
    http://www.transitchicago.com/

You can take the Red Line L train south to Chinatown and get off at 22nd/Cermak. From Union Station, exit the west side and walk south 2-3 blocks on Clinton to Blue Line L stop (under the Congress/I-290 overpass) and board train toward O_Hare. Go three stops to Jackson and transfer to the Red Line train towards Dan Ryan/95th. Cermak/Chinatown will be 3rd stop to the south. Follow your nose to Chinatown from there--it_s right there. Exit the L to the WEST-avoid going east of the tracks--trust me on this.

For Mag Mile, Navy Pier and the Museum Campus (Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium _ Soldier Field) you are within about 2-2.5 miles from all of them at Union Station. It_s not a bad walk on a nice day. You can exit Union Station towards the East, cross the river and look up. The Sears Tower will be right there. Take a left on Wacker Drive as it snakes alongside the Chicago River. Once you cross Lake Street (Green Line L tracks overhead) Wacker will curve right (East) and you_ll see some of Chicago_s best architecture. Go East along Wacker and you_ll hit the Mag Mile where the river and Michigan Avenue intersect. Wrigley Building and Tribune Tower are the first buildings you_ll see. Follow that north. To get to Navy Pier, take Michigan Avenue north just a couple blocks to Grand Ave--just north of Tribune Tower on your right. Head down the stairs to Grand Avenue and walk East until you are at Navy Pier.

A cab ride is the quickest to any of these places in my opinion--you might end up spending $10 max per leg.

If you want to keep on a budget and still get around efficiently, CTA (includes city buses and the L train) is the best. Get yourself a CTA Visitor pass for $5/day and you_ll be good to go:

How can we save, stop, and slow down miami from Mass Commercialization?|139027

I would do anything to have my city back to how it was before, at least somewhat peaceful, tropical landscapes, instead of these massive high rise condos, and mini malls. Is there anyone in charge of protecting even the soil from this greed?

  • too late... they should have haulted new construction and protected historcal buildings years ago.... its ridiculous now.. its happening here in saint augustine, fl as well

  • Make it less attractive to live there. Then everyone will stop moving there and construction prices will go down, making it not worth it for new development.

  • You must be kidding! You want peaceful tropical landscapes, move to the Dominican Republic.

  • Miami is a big tourist town and it derives a lot of revenue from the gazillions of tourists that go there each year. Like MLaw said, Miami and mass commercialization are synonymous. If you want a quiet, slower paced town, you may want to consider moving because Miami is a great place to visit with many beautiful houses, lots of old architecture to go along with the new and it_s so famous because it_s tropical, warm and a popular place to film shows. I don_t think the city of Miami intends to slow down...it wants the tourists and their money! Once progress is _on a roll_ it_s hard to stop it. It_s pretty much the same thing where I live now, but I will be moving to a quieter city within a few years where it will be many years before this small city (or if it ever) becomes mass commercialized. Look at how many people have vacation homes or condos that live up north where it is cold, snowy and really hard to get around in. I understand how you feel, but I think it is way too late to stop Miami from continuing to develop.

  • You cannot get a tourist visa for her or anyone. She must apply for herself. The application process is the same for everyone in every country in the world. she must apply through the nearest American embassy or consulate. You can refer her to the site below. She must start by reading this page and following the instructions there.

  • The B-2 tourist visa is a nonimmigrant visa which allows foreign nationals to enter into the U.S. temporarily for activities like tourism, visiting friends and relatives, medical care, participation in conventions, conferences, or convocations of fraternal or social organizations, participation by amateurs in musical, sports and similar events.

  • How much does it cost to have a car in New York City?|189457

I_m talking about parking, insurance, gas and the like. Please be as detailed as possible, thanks.

  • Others above have already gone over the basic costs and the basic principles of why you should not own a car here, but a couple more thoughts:

-- Parking it at home is one thing, but you_ll need to park it at wherever you drive to, also (work? shopping district?) and that can get expensive really quickly.

-- Car maintenance -- more expensive here than in some parts of the country, because the repair shops have higher rent and labor costs. Also, if you_re coming from a warmer climate, you may not be familiar with stuff like snow tires and salt damage.

-- Tolls. If you are commuting to work via most bridges and tunnels, you will pay a toll every day.

    http://www.mta.info/bandt/html/btmap.htm

    http://www.panynj.gov/

-- Non-economic costs. Do you really want to contribute to congestion and air pollution in the City? On a lighter note, if you spend an hour at the end of each workday looking for street parking, will you end up blowing your budget in the area of whiskey or therapy?

  • parkin is a hassle, some buildings have their own garages while others make you park on the street. Insurance is outrageous, especially in Brooklyn, Gas is right now at 3.89 for regular, and its basically not a smart or necessary idea to get a car if you live in the city. Brooklyn, Staten Island, Bronx and Queens....maybe. But Manhattan, not.

  • it depends on the following
1-if you didn_t get any violation tickets (fire hydrant ,parking meter, bus stop......etc)
    2-if you_re a beginner ..geico insurance around $700 / 6 months
    3-gas...ooooh boy...bad timming my friend
2years ago it was $1.99 now its 3.80
4-you can find $100 bill easy in the streets of nyc but parking spot...hell no
renting garage range between $150 to 500 per month depends on the area ...and still
lucky if you get one in your neighbourhood

sorry about my answer but its the truth

  • Top Gun_s insurance cost seems low. I_m in the suburbs and I_m paying over $100/month with a $1,000 deductible.
A car in NYC is such a nuisance and an expense. You will probably come out ahead if you just rent a car for those times when you really need one. Otherwise, public transportation is the way to go.

  • Don_t! The only reason to own a car in NYC is if you get away every weekend. I had a car; paid $500 per month; IT WAS STOLEN FROM THE GARAGE when they put a gun to the attendant_s head! There are NO parking places and you will pay a small fortune every time your car is towed.
NYC has many taxis and a good transit system, a car is an expense not worth it.

  • My friend, that_s about $600 to $800 a month, which can add up to $7,200 to $9,600 a year. You can spend that money on riding public transit to and from work. My advice, on behave of every New Yorkers who have respertory problems, do us a favor, forget the car, take the train and bus.

    Good luck

  • parking costs $400 up/ per month in manhattan.
insurance $100 full coverage if you are good driver.
gas depends on how much you drive $3.78/G

  • Get a car ONLY if you are expecting or have small kids. Its cheaper using the subway system and wake up a few hours ealier to get around.

  • I have 2 words for you ZIP CAR.
  • What is the best travel guide for children in Chicago?|115345

Going to Chicago with the kids this summer and want to know the best places to take them. On a budget of course.

  • The City of Chicago website has a page for family activities. I would post the specific link but the website is down right now. Below is the city main page, look for family events. If I get the chance I_ll post a more specific link

A free place is the Chicago Cultural Center at Michigan and Randolph, and Millennium Park is right across the street. There is lots of great free things to do and see between both of those.

The little ones have fun playing around the Picasso Sculpture at the Daley Center.

There is also the Chicago Children_s Museum at Navy Pier, there is admission. Strolling Navy Pier and being close to the lake is nice. There are lots of shops and concessions that will have the kids begging you to get them something so I_ll warn you of that. Having twin 11 year old daughters they beg us to let them do the rides regardless of how many times they_ve been on them. The ferris wheel is cool though as you get an audio history of the city during your ride.

Update - still not working for me but I found a second page that will help.

  • well i am still kind of young .. so i would have to say navy pier ..
that place if filled with fun activities..

there are also so many museums to visit . and they all are pretty fun.
  • How long could i live a descent life style in the San Diego area with 100k and no job?|191841

I plan on renting an 1 bedroom or studio apartment that is in a relatively safe neighborhood.

  • About 18 months if you don_t do too much in the way of entertaining. If you are a homebody, you might extend that to 24 to 27 months. If you love the night life and eat out a lot, you_ll be busted in less than 18 months in San Diego.

  • You could get an apartment for around 1000 a month.

Then its just living expenses. But wouldnt you be really bored not working.

You would be better off getting a Job and setting yourself up for a nice long haul.

  • 24 to 30 months, unless you go way primitive.

  • Didn_t you just ask this question just a few days ago???

My school_s Spanish National Honor Society wants to go to Boston for a day trip and we need to find some activites related to Spanish or Latino culture. Some suggestions have been to go see a foreign film (ideas of any theaters showing one)? Or a good spanish restaurant? Or any festivals, stores, or ANYTHING that is fun and has to do with spanish culture. Please don_t suggest google, because I have tried. thanks =] !

  • go to east boston there are many spanish/mexican restaraunts there

  • You might try to arrange a visit to the Spanish Consulate in Boston. There is also a group interested in Spanish language and culture. Information is below. The Consulate_s website is under construction, so your best bet is to call.

There is a great painting in the entryway, or _Spanish Chapel_, by John Singer Sargent called El Jaleo

    - it is of a Spanish dancer. A bit of a stretch, I know - but that is a really neat museum and it is the site of one of the most famous art heists.

  • Any Florida residence that can tell me the best time to visit?|191353

My family and I are planning a trip to Orlando next year, around September October, and we are trying to find out when the crowds aren_t so hefty. We will be traveling with 2 small children and anyone out there with children know that kids don_t do well when the have to wait 3 hours to get on 1 ride. Thanks ahead of time to all who answer.

  • February, End of September, Early October. These are the best times to visit b/c (1) Less crowded and (2) Weather is nice. I know from experience b/c I have been going to Disney for many many years now. I have the seasons pass to Disney so I can go any time of year that I want...but I still go those times b/c all the other months there are way too many people and it is also too hot. You can sometimes get away with going at the beginning of December right after THanksgiving but before Hannakah and Christmas.
Also, you can use your tickets to put into the fast pass machine. If you_ve never used fast pass, it is a machine that gives you a ticket to go on a certain ride at a certain time.

Example....lets say you want to take the kids on Snow White and Peter Pan....Get a fast pass for Peter Pan, it will tell you the time to come back to Peter Pan. In the meanwhile you can go on Snow White and then come back to Peter Pan with the fass pass and have less wait time to get on the ride. You don_t wait in the regular line if you have a fast pass.

  • From working over a year in tickets at a theme park id have to say early-mid june. the parks are open extended hours, the good kids in florida schools are working (the rest are in summer school) and the rest of the nations schools have not let out yet.

  • Beginning or end of November are nice, beginning of December, beginning of January and last 3 weeks of Sept are all _quiet_ meaning not a lot of lines at the Disney parks, not a lot of children but still the same great service.

  • if your looking between those two months I would go for late september early october too. Also, go during the week.
That way your safer (in both cases) that kids are in school so theres less of a crowd.

  • September and October are the best times to visit. This is the time that the kids are back in school and the parks are less crowded.

  • The week after Labor Day is usually pretty slow. Although it is still a little crowded at the theme parks but you can ride the rides on and off pretty quickly.

Usually Orlando doesn_t have any downtime. A lot of people more often think in the same wavelength.. so during the slow months, it could be busy also.

Since you_re planning your vacation around Sept or Oct, you_re off to a good start. There aren_t anything much going on September but Disney has Halloween party every October.

  • in sectember belive me its the best!

  • If you have children, the absolute best time is actually late September/ Early October. The Weather is still awesome and the because everybody has just started school the crowds are very low... Enjoy!

  • january through febuary
come to central florida best time to come

  • January - Feb and Sept - October

These are wonderful times to visit!

  • I work in one of the theme parks and the best advice I can give you is to come after Labor Day but before October. Unless you_re really into Halloween, October is pretty much a continuous Halloween party at the parks, attracting alot of locals. If you come in the last couple of weeks of September, the parks are usually slower. It will still be hot (depending on where you_re coming from and what you_re used to) but it_s not too bad.

If I could tell people to come any time I would say January/February. It_s not hot and it_s very slow. Hope you have fun!

  • in the fall when kids are in the school and parents work. because on the winter and summer breaks it is packed with people

I am going to throw a big 16 party and the eastside tucson hotel Hilton is the best spot and I was wondering how much it woulf cost?

  • There usually isn_t a set price for something like that because there are too many variables, the number of rooms you might need, dining options, etc. You best bet is to submit and RFP through their website and you should get a response from the hotel.

  • I really have no idea, but Happy B-Day! Hope you have a blast.
  • What are the most beautiful places in Washington State?|101864

I am looking for a wonderfully beautiful, secluded out of the way place to have my wedding. It will be a very small gathering ( 5 people) and we would prefer a place that is out in nature, publicly accesable, and beautiful. The fewer tourist that we run into the better. Neither of us are big hikers, so a place that is easy to get to woudl be best, but a little hiking is okay. Waterfalls, forests, and wonderful views will be top of our list. Let me know if you have suggestions.

  • Def Snoqualmie Falls would be a gorgeous backdrop for a wedding as was stated above! Also, perhaps the Ocean, such as at Ocean Shores (depending on the season, it may be too cold). Edmonds has a beautiful waterfront area and there are some places along the water, south of the ferry terminal that I believe has some rental hall type places. That might be less _touristy_ than the other two. For a _colder_ wedding, perhaps at a lodge in the passes during ski season? Seems a bit chilly to me, but it is another beautiful backdrop, with the snowy mountains. Leavenworth during Christmas time or during Oktoberfest is also great!

  • I too was thinking of Snoqualmie Falls, when I decided to answer your question. It is indeed beautiful and sounds like what you are describing.

  • Snoqualmie Falls. Salish Lodge is a little spendy but it looks right over the falls. Excellent food.

  • Check out the islands off the coast!

  • San Juan Island, which is in western Washington, is extremely beautiful

  • I love Eastern Washington around Walla Walla. It_s wide open spaces, not very many trees, but wheat fields, farms and creeks with beautiful vistas of the Blue Mtns.. There are several B+B_s in the area and lots of local wine to drink. Check wallawalla.com and you might find something you like.

  • I have friends who own Mountain Springs Lodge in Leavenworth. Beautiful place, relatively affordable, a variety of areas to do the deed, and driveable.
They do lots of weddings, so they would know how to treat you right.

  • What time of the year do you want to get married? if Spring or Summer Hurricane Ridge in the Olympics would be ideal. It is a spot for tourists but if you hike just a short path beyond the visitor_s center you_d have some privacy. It_s also be a gorgeous spot for wedding photos with the Olympic Mountains as your backdrop.

I_m already going to be driving into Brooklyn to hang out with a friend. I have an old schoolmate coming to visit me (I live on Long Island) and he_s arriving by bus at Grand Central around midnight. Where would be the best place to park (even if its a couple stops away on the subway) driving in from Bushwick, BK?

  • start on Park Avenue South around 14th Street / Union Square and drive uptown directly towards GCT. you should be able to find something along the way. then make a u-turn at 42nd Street and head downtown if you have to.

the #6 train runs right under Park Avenue South to and from GCT.

  • I may be wrong, but I don_t believe buses to to Grand Central Station unless it has a stop outside the station? buses usually come into Port Authority.. Maybe I_m not understanding correctly?

  • Are you sure he_s going to be at Grand Central, and not the Port Authority? Grand Central is a train station.

  • There are plenty parking lots around the station, you will pay about $14 to park.

How much does a California family of 3 spend every week on grocery, and gas?|188091

We are considering moving to Menlo Park, California. I don_t work, my husband_s pay is 1600$/week. I have a 10 month old baby. What is the normal (non-emegency) cost of weekly expenses (gas, groceries) there?

  • $60 a tank of gas ($4.00 a gallon in a 15 gallon car). I spend close to $200 on groceries every week for my mom, my sister and me, but we have really weird eating habits (eat 6 large snacks a day instead of 3 whole meals).

I think in general things cost more here... like clothing, movie tickets, any sort of leisurely activity is probably going to more than you are used to. If you eat at a restaurant just you and your husband, costs average about $15-20 for a sit down meal. And $30-40 per person for a nice restaurant (steakhouse type)

As for other costs, I cant think of any off the top of my head...

  • My fiancee and I spend about $70 per week on groceries (at Trader Joe_s, which is a bit cheaper than other stores) so for 3 people what would be about $100. However, we eat dinner out a lot.

Gas really depends on how much commuting you will be doing. I commute 10 miles to work, and I probably spend about $20 per week on gas. Gas prices here are always higher than anywhere else because CA has more taxes and less supply.

  • Hi there - Marquise Concierge _ Lifestyle Management, LLC - www.marquiseconcierge.com - has the answer for you:

Regardless of any local legislation being more lenient, the following is an appropriate minimum standards policy on piercing minors:

For any piercing of a minor, a parent or legal guardian must be present to sign a consent form. Proof positive, state issued photo identification is required from the legal guardian, and a bona fide form of identification from the minor. In the event the parent has a different last name and/or address from the child, court documentation is needed to prove the relationship, i.e., divorce papers, or a remarriage certificate.

Under no circumstances is it acceptable or appropriate for a piercer to perform piercing on the nipples or genitals of an individual under 18 years of age.

  • You have to be 18, but most shops will do it for you if your parents come with you and bring your birth certificate and sign a release form.
  • How do I visit a NYPD Station when in New York?|174504

Does anyone have anyway of contacting them or are you a NYPD officer??
    Thanks very much.

  • While anyone can walk into a police station, you won_t get past the lobby unless you have official business that requires you to go further into the building. Police stations can be dangerous places for visitors, with criminals being walked around as they are processed. There_s also the possibility that a visitor might be up to no good--trying to grab a gun, rescue a prisoner, or other mischief.

Native_s suggestion of instead visiting the Police Museum is a good one.

  • You can see it from anywhere in Central Florida. lol but if you want to get close you can really be on Coccoa Beach and really see it!

Have a blast (no pun intended).

  • You can_t see it from Orlando. Orlando is 60 miles west of Kennedy. I watched the last Discovery go up in Oct. From Orlando, take the 528 east towards Coco/Cape Canaveral. You will see lines and lines of cars parked on the side of the overpasses. You will be on the mainland but you will get a nice view I promiss. You will even feel the ground shake. You will see people who see to do this all the time, they bring thier chairs, coolers, radios and listen to the countdown. It is a nice area right along the causeway/water we watched the manatees play and even saw some dolphins. If you can go into the cruise/ports parking lot and park. We go their too late so we parked along the side (with everyone else) but actually it was worth it because we got out smoothly.

  • If you can_t get a launch pass I suggest you come to Titusville. Go east on
State Road 50 from I-95, to US-1. Go north on US-1 to the _Miracle City Mall_
at Harrison. Park somewhere north of this spot. Anywhere north along highway
1, or east (as far as you can) along highway 406 (402) is good (specifically
Sand Point Park), just as long as you can see the VAB and don_t have trees
blocking the view. If you can afford it, just pay the $10 to park in
someone_s yard along the river. Also you can try Jetty Park at Port Canaveral
(you will be south of the launch looking north). Space View Park claims to be
the best place to view Shuttle launches from Titusville

company picks you up and drops you off at your hotel in Orlando/Kissimee
(Disney World) area, and provides you with the same tickets you get from the
KSC Visitors Center. The commercial tour company has a more restrictive
cancellation and _relaunch_ policy than getting tickets direct from KSC
Visitors Center, and you don_t get a parking placard.

  • Hi, I just moved from Pennsylvania to Charlotte,NC. I rented a truck from uhaul and attached my car to the back of it. They give you estimated miles and cost and it is usually right. Plus they have a free dolly to help you move large things and low truck beds. Or you can have a company move it all for you and you will not have to drive a big truck....though I am not sure of the way they charge.

  • Depends on if you want to drive or not. I would not want to drive that distance myself. Cost of gas is a big factor as well as meals and lodging....

I moved 2200 miles years ago and used a container service to move and it was cheaper than a uhaul truck plus I had storage available until I found a new place without reloading the container or emptying the truck.........

Before that, I rented a truck for a 1400 mile move but had less stuff and less kids so it worked...It was a shorter drive than the move you are considering.

Do a web search and you get quotes from several companies that lease the containers or use door to door or similar comapnies. The quotes are free and then you can compare to see what would work better.

    Good luck in Colorado.

  • Driving, renting a U-Haul truck.

  • I would have professional movers do it and just pay it and forget about it, You never know how much stress and danger await renting a truck, packing then loading, then unloading and unpacking, not to mention the driving for days across unknown territory.
Pay the money and move on , figure out a way to make up for it later, It is just money, where the other is quite an adventure that you never know what may happen.

  • I just moved from Michigan to Georgia, and I drove. I found a place that rented trailers for a week for really cheap, and I drove my car and my mom pulled the trailer behind her. It was less expensive than Uhaul and worked great. I got mine at a local hardware store, maybe you could check places like that. I was able to get everything between the two cars and the trailer. But the downside was that she had to drive it back.

  • get rid of all of your stuff and start afresh in colorado. i did.

  • Drive ( rent a uhaul)

  • Well, sort through the stuff? Get rid of all of the non-essential stuff [hint, if you have not looked at it in 3 years --- get rid of it]

Look into PODS where you can pack a trailer pod and they will move it to you when and where you need it. Drive your care (lightly packed -- fuel is high). Find a small place where you will reside (keep expenses low at first --- you can always upgrade after a year --- learn to live in your new area on a very small budget). Have PODS move your container to where you are --- move it all in or move what is essential and leave the rest packed in the POD --- wait a year --- if you have not used the junk in a POD --- hold a garage sale from the POD --- put all money from sale in a bank.

  • Covered Wagon....
haha, jk....uhaul is pretty well priced

  • Renting a big cargo van and driving there yourself would be cheapest. If that isn_t big enough for all your stuff you should rent a u-haul. It will be cheapest if you do everything yourself. Enlist friends and family to help you pack. Good luck!
  • What should i get as a souvenoir from time square?|171235

i have a teenage daughter and im going to time square. what should i get her?

  • A T-shirt is always a good choice, but, have you thought about going to Macy_s? It_s not that far from Times Square and if you go down to the basement, they have a full section of souvenirs that are of better quality than what you will find in Times Square.

  • They have the artists that draw on signs and you could have them make one in your daughter_s name.

  • I love NY t shirt

  • A photo of you with the Naked Cowboy
  • Does anyone know how long it takes to fly from virginia to atlanta?|183819

i will be going to visit my family soon and i would like to know about how long it would take to get there.i would really like to know as much as i can because i_ve never been on a plane and im very nervous.thanks!

  • From Norfolk, it_s exactly 1 hr and 41 mins. I checked. I am deathly afraid of planes. If you can ride a roller coaster, I_m sure you can go on a plane. The flight staff does their best to make you feel comfortable though. They have a few catalogs on the planes for you to read, and they serve beverages free of charge.

  • Robin,

call a local ASTA travel agent and get all of the new info on flights...the airline industry is changing every day, call somebody smart....the internet is not your friend BTW I would guess 1 1/2 hours nonstop from Dulles.

What should first time visitors to Sedona AZ do?|157754

We are new to the Phoenix area and want to go to Sedona- we are outdoor people :) - BUT my husband just had surgery on his arm and is limited on the physical activities. We also have a dog that would enjoy the ride. Any suggestions?

  • Take a ride up Oak Creek Canyon Rd (89A) To flagstaff. If you want to hike with the dog if you don_t mind him on a leash go to Red Rock State Park. That will be on 89A heading to Cottonwood from Sedona. If you want the dog to run any of the forest roads would be nice.

Now for you and your Husband
    I_d take a Jeep Ride
then If you like to look at beautiful Scenery go to Clarkdale its just outside of Cottonwood and take the Verde Train Ride. In my book it is way better then the Grand Canyon.

Then in Cottonwood off of Main Street on 10th Street is the BlazinM Ranch. They have a great dinner show that isn_t to expensive.

You can get info about the train ride and the blazinM when your in Sedona at any of the tourist booths.

Anyone that I know coming to my neck of the wood those are the places that I recommend

  • Oak Creek Canyon is very scenic and has many of the unique red rock formations, like Coffee Pot Rock, and many scenic drives and lookouts. They have some short hiking trails, too. There_s plenty of birdwatching to do at Oak Creek Canyon. More Sedona things to do: You can go on a vortex tour. Vortexes are enhanced energy locations, and they are fun and interesting places to visit. There are many such sites in Sedona. There are many places to shop in Sedona, such as Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Center, as well as many small shops. They are into crystals and Indian artwork and jewelry in Sedona. There are also some good trolley and jeep tours in Sedona. I recommend Pink Jeep Tours if you want a good, informative, and fun jeep tour.

Also, there are plenty of good massage therapists in Sedona. The massages are very relaxing. They are great for sore feet, too.

  • Basically just drive. We drove thru Sedona taking pictures from the car or pull offs and then headed up to Flagstaff for dinner and then back to Phoenix.

  • You guys could hike, but your husband doesn_t seem up to it. There are also the little shops, those are always fun :)
  • What is the best way of going from Tampa to Orlando to Sarasota and back again?|181729

Also how far away in a car are each from one another?

  • That_s pretty weird man.

Tampa to Orlando. Take I-4 east to Orlando. It_s 85 miles.

Orlando to Sarasota. Go back on I-4 west until you hit the junction of I-75 outside Tampa. Head south on I-75 to Sarasota. It_s 132 miles.

Sarasota to Tampa. Go back on I-75 north until you hit the junction of I-4 outside Tampa. Head west on I-4 to Tampa. OR, go back on I-75 north until you hit the Crosstown Expressway at Brandon. Go west on the Crosstown to Tampa. It_s 62 miles.

What are the best places to see the fall colors in a 4-8 hour driving distance from Columbia, SC?|154492

I would like to spend this weekend and the next few going around taking good photographs of the fall colors... and I am looking for something within a decent budget, 4-8 hours drive from Columbia, SC. If you know of the most beautiful locations, let me know.

    -Thanks in advance.

  • Why not head to the Smokies? Maggie Valley is close by.
    Here_s some links:

    http://www.nps.gov/grsm/index.htm

    http://www.maggievalley.org/events.html

If you gamble here_s a link to Cherokee Casino:

    http://www.harrahscherokee.com/casinos/h

We went up there for the 4th of July weekend. Watched fireworks from the front of our motel!

  • well you can probably get to western pennsylvania, west virgina, kentucky and maybe parts of new york state with 8 hours of SC...BUT if it_s the most beautiful location you_re looking for then you need to get to new england especially arpund mt washington in new hampshire--the mountain peaks have a dusting of snow over them and the foliage is full peak

  • The farther north you drive the better the leaves will be. As we know the cold has a lot to do with the changing of the leaves. (not all of it) So it would stand to reason that going north would be best. I would actually call before taking off to be sure. You can call any state park in the area you want to go
  • What is a great little safe town to raise a family in the US?|103957

When I ask this, I mean not a huge city, and not a town that has 2 people in it. Also, that has a civilization close by. Thanks!

  • You_re welcome! Thanks for the 10 points!

  • Athens, GA. Decent sized college town with plenty of culture and family. Atlanta is only 60 miles away if you want to go to a big city for anything. Best place I know.

  • Here is a link.

  • You would like my town.
32,000 people.(city limits) Quiet. 20 minutes to a town of more size for shopping and such. 45 minutes to a major city.
one and a half hours to Las Vegas.
Some outlying areas outside city limits that are great to live in. much smaller. I live in one of the out of city limit areas. good elementary school and lots of peace and quiet.

  • I think my hometown of Prescott,AZ. It has an elevation similar of Denver CO. It is nestled in the largest ponderosa pine tree forests in the world. 3 Pristine lakes are available,1 within the city limits, other 2 are less than 10 minutes away. population is close to 65,000 and growing. There are actual seasons there, snows in the winter, cool in the spring, and warm in the summer. Also known as Arizona_s _Christmas City_. Great places to go within an hours drive include,Sedona,Jerome, and Camp Verde. The grand canyon is 3 hours north, las vegas 5 hours northwest, and the state capitol Phoenix,2 hours southwest.
Some of the best public schools in the state are there as well, always scoring above the state average. There is 2 community colleges there as well, and the crown jewel...Embry Riddle Aeronautical University,THE best flight school in the counrty.
Hope you find this useful, good luck!

  • Chapin,IL zip code 62628... town of 600 Triopia is a great school...and theres a large town 15 minutes away and it_s in between st. louis and springfield, IL

  • Seneca, MO. Nice town of about 2000. Absolutely wonderful schools from pre-school to high school. 20 minutes to Joplin, MO, a town that swells to about 150,000 on the weekends so about anything you could want is there plus a University. Or 90 minutes you can be in Tulsa, OK, about an hour to Springfield, MO, 2-1/2 hours to Kansas City, 2 hours to Branson. 4 Seasons. Friendly people. Never had a tornado. Get a great house for a little $. Low cost of living. We love it and so do our kids!

  • Walla Walla,Washington .... Born and raised here !

Outstanding elementary schools, 1 Is a Championship school for outstanding Bi-Lingual education.

We are a small community of 35,000 .. SUNSET Magazine voted Us the WINE destination of 2005 ..Rich in Northwest history ..has 1 of the Top 20 colleges to attend. ( Whitman ) a very close net community ..small,quite,and Unique ..

  • Jacksonville, Oregon. It_s a historic town in Southern Oregon, with a population of about 2,000. It_s close to the Rogue River, the town of Ashland which has a Shakespeare Festival, city of Medford (pop. 70,000), with things to do like rafting, skiing, biking, hiking, tourism, concerts (Britt Gardens is a nationally-famous outdoor concert hall where we_ve had people like Nickel Creek, the Beach Boys, and Heuey Lewis and the News play before), and a lot more. Check it out - it_s safe, has a lot of things to do, and people are friendly. It_s an interesting place to live.

  • I went to elementary school in both Jonesbouro AR and Athens OH; both great college towns. Oooo... good times

  • Rock Hill, SC 2 hours to the mountains 2.5 hours to the beach. Lake wylie is about a 15 minute drive. Averages mid 80_s in the summer and mild winters maybe 1 snow per year. only 25 minutes south of charlotte, NC.

  • How does one become a crab fisherman in Alaska?|179964

This seems like a very interesting and exciting job; albeit, very dangerous.

  • I don_t have any first hand experience in this area, but did have a relative who considered doing it. If you decide to do it, ask ALOT of questions. What my relative found out is that it sounds good when they quote you how much money you will make. But, then they charge you for room and board, etc. and take most of it back. I got the impression that they weren_t upfront with this information....ie. if you don_t ask, they don_t tell. Also, I have heard that it one of the most dangerous jobs. Good luck....be careful

  • visit a house of ill repute where the staff is infected with body lice.
