What are fun things for adults to do in Detroit area for a weekend?|161926

We will have a car and a free Saturday and Monday in Detroit area. How is the Henry Ford museum? Any other suggestions?

  • The Henry Ford Museum and Village are great places to visit
go to The Michigan Renaissance Festival

  • Detroit is awful... BUT. If you like to gamble, there_s casino_s. There_s also Romulus and the Landing Strip if you are a man and like that sort of thing. Otherwise, agree with everyone else. I_m there this weekend for KISS, so Detroit will be A-OK for me as long as I don_t get mugged.

  • The day you go, if the weather is lousy, go to the museum. It will take you the whole day to see it ( if you don_t linger too long at any one item or vehicle )! If the weather is good, then do the Greenfield Village instead where likewise you can easily spend the whole day. Check out Belle Island ( about 5 - 6 miles East of downtown Detroit ) and drive on the _old Detroit Grand Prix_ race track! If you wish, and have time, you can tour Henry Ford_s house in Dearborn, Edsel Ford_s house in Grosse Pointe, the Dodge/Wilson house at Meadowbrook in Rochester / Rochester Hills or even the Fisher house (Fisher Body /GM fame) not too far east from downtown in Detroit. The museum is heavy duty in technology and wonderful if your into cars, trucks, trains and such while the village is in my opinion more interesting if your interested in history though it has it_s share of technology presented ( Paddle wheel boat, Model T_s, train ride, etc). Either way you will love going to either, just remember to wear comfortable clothes and good walking shoes! Food and other concessions are available at both museum and village. Welcome to MY hometown, Enjoy your visit!

  • The Henry Ford museum is great. Other suggestions: Detroit Historical Museum, Motown Museum (Hitsville USA), Detroit Institute of Arts, Pewabic Pottery, Cranbrook Institute of Science (in Bloomfield Hills). There are also cider mills in the Detroit area such as the Franklin cider mill in Franklin, MI. Stony Creek state park in Shelby Township is nice (has trails).

  • Museums are great, there_s Henry Ford/Greenfield Village, or the Detroit Institute of arts.
It_s more of a family thing, but I like to go to the cider mill this time of year.

  • Most of the adults in Detroit don_t have time or money to have fun. They are all out looking for jobs. Any money you spend in the city will be appreciated.

  • Well, the State Fair is this weekend.
  • Wondering how to work in NYC and commuting home on the weekends?|174926

How could I commute to NYC for the week from Albany and go home for the weekend? I know how to get the train to Grand Central, Is there a way to just get a cheap bed and avoid getting an apartment?

  • Sure, you could check the ads on CraigsList for someone who_s looking for a roommate, and then just rent a bedroom in someone else_s apartment, and you_d be the perfect roommate, too, because you_d be gone on the weekends, so be sure to mention that a LOT when answering the ads.

Good luck, and the link below is to the Roommates page on CraigsList...
  • What is a great city in the south to relocate other than Atlanta?|172438

I am looking for place to relocate to in the South. This city should have plenty of jobs and a decent nightlife. I know everyone is going to recommend Atlanta but I am really not interested in residing in Atlanta. Its a great city nonetheless but I will pass. So anyone have any great places what would be your top 5 best cities in the south. The best answer gets 10 points right away.

  • Jobs and nightlife - you could hardly pass up Miami!

  • Tampa, FL.

  • Pensacola Fl.

  • anderson or greenville, SC
  • What train services run from Boston airport to Brattleboro, VT at of after 6pm?|106084

I need to fly to America and get to Vermont. I have seen a flight which lands in Boston at 17:10 on December 24th, I then need to get a train upto Brattleboro station the same day.
Being from England I don_t know of train services in America, apart from Amtrak which I have looked into. Amtrak unfortunately don_t have any trains running at the time I need.
Does anybody know of any others that run?

  • I do not believe there is any train service at the time you need. Is there any way you could fly into Vermont and catch a local bus? Or perhaps have someone pick you up at the airport? At this crucial travel time, your best bet is to try and get a flight into Vermont and use local bus or cab transport. Enjoy your holiday!

  • Amtrak is the ONLY long distance train provider in the USA.

Americans mostly abandoned train travel decades ago in favor of auto and air travel. Trains serve very few cities. And unfortunately Brattleboro has no airport.

I suggest you try Greyhound Bus. They have a stop in Brattleboro and a station in Boston about 3 miles from the airport.

    Enjoy your trip.

  • Public Transportation, particularly trains, are not big in the U.S. Amtrak is it. I_m always amazed when I go visit my English relatives, how easy it is to live without a car there. Here you need a car if you don_t live in the city.

You_ll have to look into Greyhound Bus or Vermont Transit Bus.

  • This looks like a crunch to do but hopefully Greyhound will work for you. Also if you are travelling the next day or New Years Day be sure to check the holiday schedule in case it_s different than daily one (not sure if Christmas eve will also have special time changes).

  • None that I_m aware of, there might be some bus lines that go to Brattleboro, check out Peter Pan and Greyhound
  • Why are the moutain marines train in the serria Nevada mountains not a better place like Colorado?|162407

I think Colorado is a much better place in terms of mountains. Colorado has 58 14,000+ FT tall peaks and has very rough and rocky terrain I would think that if the Marines want the best training they would go there.

  • Where did you get the ridiculous notion that the mountains of Sierra Nevada are inferior to the Colorado Rockies ?
Have you ever personally seen, hiked , climbed ,skied the CA Sierra Nevada ?

  • You do not get invaded in the middle of the country, you get invaded from the coasts. If they are on the coast, they are closer to deploy during wartime SINCE YOUR SHIPS ARE ON THE COAST(S)!

Plus, the AFA is in Colorado Springs, so you have a number of cadets there anywya
