Which area in Boston is affordable to live in and accessible to InterContinental Boston hotel?|145367

I am in the process of applying for an internship at the InterContinental Boston hotel. Based on my research, it is right by Financial District and Boston Harbor. It is also close to the South Station stop. Could you please recommend an area in Boston where I can rent an affordable apartment/room (I_m on student budget) while staying close to the hotel or MBTA stations so I can get to work easily? I don_t have a car.

  • A car wouldn_t do you any good anyway in that part of Boston. Boston is expensive, particularly for short-term internships. Consider a roommate situation or a sublet. Your best bet might be the Northeastern University area or their housing office. (Northeastern does co-ops, so they are experts at short-term.) NEU is also on the Orange Line, which goes to the Financial District.

T access means that quite a number of good student rental areas in other cities are open to you. Check Craigslist for Central Square Cambridge, UMass Boston area, Quincy (all Red Line). Medford or Malden Center, Ruggles Station (on the Northeastern University side ONLY, avoid Roxbury. These are Orange Line, which you can get at Downtown Crossing or State).

South Station is also the terminus for many of the commuter Rail lines, with frequent service to other suburbs, and a number of buses.

  • You are better looking outside the city whereas finding a decent priced apartment in the financial district is like winning the lottery. Try craigslist and look for areas like Arlington, West Roxbury, Quincy, Dorchester, Medford, Charlestown. You are not really going to find anything close to the hotel whereas it is all businesses and unless you have $500k to put down on a place in the North End it isn_t going to happen. But there are T stations all over the place and that hotel is right near the Red line which is the line that runs from Braintree to Medford so there are alot of options. If you don_t have a car then try to stay within the T line.

I_m turning fifteen and its obviously December so I can never have creative birthday parties because of the cold. I just want to go somewhere with my best friend for my birthday. I don_t want to go to the mall because I will just spend all the money I earned over the summer. I also don_t like museums.

  • if you live near ocean city maryland you can go to the Carousal hotel where they have a giant ice scatting rink and it makes a good place to have a party

  • I thought they shut down the Carosel Hotel in OC? not sure tho. Where in MD do you live sweetie? In Baltimore there are a ton of things to do....more details please
