When is the best time of the year to visit Wine country in California?|161876

I_m in the early stages of planning a honeymoon for June of 2008 and was wondering if June was a good time to visit Napa and Sonoma Counties in California.

  • Any time is a good time. Harvesting grapes usually takes place around Aug. and Sept. That means that the popular wines will almost be sold out from last years harvest, and the new ones are still being bottled.

June will be a good time. There will still be bottles left from last years harvest.

    Congratulations, and have fun.

  • Now is a great time, weather-wise. It_s been very temperate in Napa. Cool at night, overcast in the morning, and sunny in the afternoons, but not scorching hot. June is an ideal time!

However, the only downside I can think of is that the traffic will be kind of crazy since it_s tourist season. Hwy 29 and Silverado Trail both get clogged with cars trying to find wineries and making left turns. So have some patience with slow traffic.

My advice: Plan your day trips so you never have to make a left turn onto 29. And have fun!

  • Any time is good, unless you want to go during the harvest in September there really isn_t a _best time_. June will be crowded as it_s the start of the tourist season, but otherwise it is just fine.

  • any time is fine in napa and sonoma, except maybe January - March when it is raining cats and dogs. We flooded very badly in 2006.

Fall from August to October is best if you want to see the crush happening. That is when the wineries have the most activity.

But weather pretty much all year is nice. And there_s always stuff to do in June.
  • What is the economical way to travel between San Francisco and Detroit frequently?|184888

    Hi,

I want to travel to Detroit from SFO frequently, could you please help me with the economical way for this. I dont mind going in train, bus, flight etc also any near by airports is also fine. And I travel almost once in 15 days, your help is much appreciated.

    Regards,

    S

  • The train is the most expensive way to travel.

The bus can really add up in cost.

The airfare route, with a frequent flyer number and a credit card that awards you double frequent flyer awards is best. Southwest Air just announced an entire slew of flights at much lower costs. A number of airlines have run to match. Your best bet is to sign up with a site like Orbitz or Expedia, and research their lowest fare. Then, go to Southwest Airlines site and see what their pricing is. On SWA, if you book 30 days in advance, you can usually get a flight for as low as $39 one way.

SWA does have flights in and out of SFO, but the hub is Oakland. Most folks in SF prefer Oakland as it is way more convenient. There are shuttles between the airports as well.

    Happy Trails!

  • How much time can you afford to spend traveling? Amtrak will take several days, and I assume the bus will also take several days. Either way, you are going to be sinking a lot of your time into traveling, and even if it is cheaper than flying (Amtrak is usually the same or even more expensive), not being able to work for several days may not be worth any savings you are getting.

I would suggest getting familiar with hunting for bargain air fare. There are websites where you can get great deals on last minute flights, but you will have to be flexible about layovers. Also, look at Oakland and San Jose airports too, to expand your options. If the uncertainty of a last minute flight isn_t for you, you may want to opt for a frequent-flyer program, if these still exist. As a frequent flyer, you will be booking flights on one airline and earning points with them that you can use in the future for free flights.

  • greyhound is probably the cheapest way to go. but if you_re flying, oakland airport is generally cheaper to fly in and out of.
  • What is the largest airport in the state of Virginia?|197010

I am interested in those outside the Washington DC area as we will be seeing Charlottesville and vicinity as well as Richmond, Williamsburg and Virginia Beach. Upon arrival we will rent a car but I would just prefer to fly into the largest airport available. Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

  • Richmond International will probably be your best bet. It_s about an hour away from Charlottesville and Williamsburg and about two from Virginia Beach.

  • Manassas Regional Airport is the largest airport outside of the Washington, D.C., area in Virginia. It_s located 30 miles from Washington, D.C.
  • What is the best possible transportation from LaGuardia airport to Newark airport at night ?|150883

My flight will reach at LaGuardia airport at 10:35 PM on Friday. I have hotel booked near Newark airport. Need to go to Newark airport with my kid and wife that night. Again next two days i will be in NY to visit places in NY. Please suggest me the best way to reach Newark airport from LaGuardian airport on that night. Please give the details if possible. Please think the cost effectiveness also.

  • If you don_t want to deal with waiting for public buses, you should probably just pay for a taxi or shared van like SuperShuttle to take you to NY Penn Station. From Penn Station you can take the NJ Transit AirTrain to Newark Airport (the last train is usually about 1:40 am).

  • Check Links below, you may need 2 shuttles, lga to city, then a shuttle to nwk hotel, time of day is off peak, less travelers.
might be cheaper _ quicker to rent a car with a drop off, the drive at that timeof night should be less than 1hr, as long as ther AINT no stupid NYC traffic mishaps.
good luck _ have a great visit.
    Lots to see and dew.
Try top of the 666_s also now know as TOP OF THE ROCK
better than the empire state bldg.

  • Before any of us answer take the time to answer this question, you need to know that regardless of the routing offered there will be many flights of stairs to negotiate . If that_s OK use addditional details to say so.

  • Cancel the Newark Hotel and get a hotel next to LaGuardia - its not any more expensive and will save you LOADS of aggravation and time.
