How long does it take to tour Kennedy Space Center?|115093

Going to Orlando next month for 4 night cruise and 4 days at WDW. We are trying to find a way to fit in KSC into our schedule, but we really don_t have a free day. Can we do it in 2-3 hours? What would you recommend? Is it worth the price of admission?

  • You really would need at least half a day to see everything. Space travel isn_t one of my top interests, but KSC is actually a really cool place. In 2-3 hours you could probably see most of the exhibits in the buildings, as well as the rocket garden. However, there is an IMAX there, a space shuttle launch simulator and a two-hour bus tour that takes you where civilians usually aren_t allowed to go to see things like launch sites and where they make parts for the space station, etc.

  • It_s very much worth the price of admission. If you are there in the later part of the afternoon, they usually have a short lecture in one of the buildings. An American Astronaut is there to talk about what it_s like to do a shuttle mission. This alone is worth the effort. They have a shuttle simulator that_s awesome. KSC is probably one of the best kept secrets in Florida.

  • I_ve never been there, but my husband went when he was in Florida on a business trip. He says that there is enough there to see to take up a whole day or even more. He loved it!
  • What is the largest airport in the state of Virginia?|153216

I am interested in those outside the Washington DC area as we will be seeing Charlottesville and vicinity as well as Richmond, Williamsburg and Virginia Beach. Upon arrival we will rent a car but I would just prefer to fly into the largest airport available. Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

  • Richmond International will probably be your best bet. It_s about an hour away from Charlottesville and Williamsburg and about two from Virginia Beach.

  • Manassas Regional Airport is the largest airport outside of the Washington, D.C., area in Virginia. It_s located 30 miles from Washington, D.C.
  • I bought tickets for Cirque du Soleil and wonder how good the seats are?|105062

I bought $55 tickets. I know those are the cheapest ones, but I am wondering if the entire audience can see the show fairly good from any angle.

  • You didn_t say which Cirque du Soleil show you bought the tickets for. Cirque du Soleil shows are playing at different theaters and normally have good seating. Here are seating charts for all the shows. Just check your seating row against the chart.

    http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/show.php

  • I have to wonder why if it is for OVO in NYC, did you post it in Las Vegas. Cirque shows don_t all have the same seats, but yes for that price you most likely will be in the back. Sometimes there are partially obstructed views, you might want to call their box office directly to get clarification, even with a seating chart it is hard to tell what views are obstructed. If you do decide to buy tickets to a las vegas show, might I suggest vegas.com. They don_t sell obstructed views.

  • The Show Opens on April 09, 2010

Any suggestions on where I could purchase some ground venison in the Princeton, NJ area?|164852

Forth of July is coming and some friends and I will be hanging out in the area and would like to get some.

  • Try Wegman_s on Route1 in Lawrenceville.
  • What is the worst state to live in?|162761

I am from Connecticut, personally i love the northeast. From maps, the midwest looks like it is the most unpopulated, so i don_t know how fun that would be. But i am wondering what peoples opinions on the best and worst regions are to live. I have traveled to many foreighn countries, but i have only seen florida and every state along the eastcoast except maine, and anything below virginia, besides florida. I did go to nevada and it was like the wierdest place i have seen in my life.

  • UTAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Don_t say that to my State. I would give up everything I own to live in michigan

  • Don_t say that to my State. I would give up everything I own to live in michigan

  • I live in the midwest. its cool but i think Wyoming sounds boring cuz a bunch of people have said it and i think so too. All i noe is its not one of the best states...

  • lol @ Nevada

I think the worst place to live right now is Michigan (no offense to anyone who lives there). The job market is in shambles, house prices are falling, it_s so f**king cold. I wouldn_t want to live there.

  • wow this confused me lol.
i dont know where you have actually been ...
but in my opinion NJ is extremely boring.
the only thing good about it is O.C.
there really isnt anything to do in maine,
    but florida is pretty funn.

  • Compton is meant to be preety bad according to rap lol

  • South Dakota. there_s like 6 people there

  • California. Every product I use states that it has been known to cause cancer in the state of California. So I assume they have a very high cancer rate.

  • I live in the NY state. If you can put up with winter, which I don_t care for then it is a okay place to live. I still want to move to Florida.

  • i would say over here in cali, its so much fun out here and plus the parties are crackin out here. come visit.

i have always wanted to visit japan though it looks so amazing. i need money though, lol.

  • Arkansas , Kansas, North Dakota, Iowa (nothing to do in these places) Missouri aka Misery.

  • The worst state to live in is Misery. I prefer the state of Joy.

  • Idaho, Texas, Maine

Cali or Seattle is where you gotta be

  • yea i would say nevada or arizona cause it just boring desert or i would say iowa cause there is just nothing to do there

  • From everything I can tell, Utah is the most repressive, and this has to do with the Mormon church_s domination of the daily life and its takeover of the government in Utah.

  • basically the REALLY rural southern states, kentucky, mississipi, etc, plus alot of really closed minded people live there.

  • Any state (including Utah), EXCEPT Califonia, up north is even better :)

  • im from illinois...very boring if your not in chicago, that city_s fun....but i live about an hour away in a small town so theres pretty much no excitment..and you keep driving and theres just corn everywhere

  • id say flordia to many storms and tooo hot

  • What maps are you using? Other than New York, Texas, California, and Florida, the midwest has most of the most populated states in the country.

  • The worst place to live is called_State of mind_. I have been quite happy in some very boring places. Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness is what you will make of your own situation.
I personally dislike Oklahoma, but that_s just because I_m a Texan.

  • Worst = Utah _ Iowa
    Best = Louisiana ^_^

  • i would probably say New York city because theres so much pollution from all the the taxi_s (and tourists.) But then again... theres the baseball hall of fame in copperstown not far away...;P. And as you said theres so much pop. in Ney york wen i visited i could barely move!. hope this helps, cc

  • Im english but i asked a similair question to some americans when i was over there they said _indiana_. Nevada surely gets away with being bad because its got vegas in it.

What are the best bars and nightclubs in San Diego?|123284

I am planning a bachelor party in San Diego and I am looking for a good bar or nightclub that we can go to. There are going to be 15 guys going so a group that size of all males might cause some problems.

  • There are lots of bars in the Gaslamp Quarter. The Shout House could deal with 15 guys no problem. It_s a fun interactive place frequented mostly by people in their 20s. Very popular!

  • Cools answer is funny, but tijuana is increasingly dangerous.
I_d go to Deja Vu_. Its a strip club near Sports Arena. They serve alcohol there, but i recommend doing a few shots in the parking lot before you go in.
My tip for going to a strip club is wear a track suit.
    Lap dances are way better.
    Your mom is pretty nice.

  • This is a trick question, right?
With 15 guys you definitely need to cross the border into Tijuana and go to a DONKEY SHOW.
It will be an experience you never forget!

  • use to live there. don_t make it a one bar. hit the old town. downtown sd. most amazing bars of any city i have been in. just hop from one to another

  • I would try a party limo and just bounce around the town all night!

  • Try PB Bar and Grill

How many coffee shops are there in Seattle?|136361

I_m doing research for some students and am trying to find out how many coffee shops, stands, cafes... (Starbucks, Tullys, SBC, independent...) are actually in Seattle. Would really appreciate a source also. Thank you in advance!

  • goggle maps list 9,368 - although having lived in Seattle I_d say that is a conservative estimate.

  • I don_t drink coffee

  • Oh, dear God--where to begin. You can_t swing a dead cat without hitting one. There are actually intersections with one on every corner. I would estimate that if NYC has 100,000 restaurants, that Seattle has about half that many coffee shops, counting the entire Metro area and everything that could be considered a _coffee shop._ Coffee is a way of life in Seattle nowadays--the _latte lifestyle,_ if you will.

  • How many street corners are there in Seattle?

  • Which block are we talking about? Where is there NOT a coffee shop!?!

  • What are some unbelieveable resturants and things to do in NYC?|132536

  • for sightseeing try this
    http://www.citysightsny.com/

  • NYC is great! You should really come and visit it. I suggest you to go to the Rockefeller Center. It is really cool and fun to be in there, you would enjoy the shops, museums, and the city itself. I also would suggest you to visit Time Square and Broadway Theater. There are awesome areas and places in New York City. You will love it! Enjoy!

  • some good things to do are go to Ellis island , take the ferry, and see the statue of liberty. Also there are a variety of restaurants in Manhattan around 42cnd street. Its also good to get some exercise walking through the botanical garden in brooklyn , ITS BEAUTIFUL!

  • Angelo_s, in Little Italy, is perhaps the best Italian Food in NYC. Then you will want to stop at Ferrara_s for something sweet.

  • this not my computer i cant sale it there is alot to do up here time saquare statue of liberty
  • Where is the best spot to see the electrical parade?|122879

We_ve been to DW many times but have never figured out the best spot to see the electrical parade. Is there anyone out there that wants to give their secret away? And how far in advance would we have to reserve our spot?

  • It it_s a busy day and you don_t want to secure a spot hours in advance, head toward Frontierland. That_s where the parade ends--there will be too many people crammed on Main Street to enjoy the parade. There_s usually spots along the wooden fence. Also, if you watch the parade on that end, you_re less likely to be trampled on the way out.

If there are 2 parades running at night, skip the first one. EVERYONE will be watching that one. Go on some rides and wait until the second showing of the parade.

  • Frontierland is the best place to view it. You won_t have the heavy crowds that are on Main street usa :)

  • We always catch the parade on Main Street about 1/2 way down the street. You will have to be there about an hour to an hour and a half before the parade. No one can sit in front of you, you have a great view of the parade, the characters will walk right by you, and when it is over you have a great spot for the fireworks over the Castle. Every time we have sat here it has been magical. We used this tip last week when we were there and it worked to perfection!!

    Hope this helps!!

  • main street is best--i like that spot best~~~~~

  • We stumbled upon frontierland one evening. Just walked up only 5 minutes before the parade. Hardly any people and it was high season (Christmas week). Everyone wants to see if from Main Street or Cinderellas castle. Mosey down to frontierland and see it all without the crowd.

  • got a great view right from Main Street...got there early to score a spot on the curb near the main entrance....close to where the circle is...

  • How confusing is Chicago Union Station and can Mega bus customers wait their?|198825

I have heard Union Station is like a maze particular with the one way esclator. I have also heard that Mega bus passengers cannot wait inside union station. Can they wait in the great hall and eat at the food court.

  • Not THAT confusing, particularly if you_re catching the Megabus. That bus stops on Canal Street which runs right between the two sections of Union Station. If you__re in doubt as to where to go, just go up and out to the street, find Canal Street and you_ll probably see people waiting. The bus stops on the east side of Canal (if you_re not sure, ask someone.)

As far as waiting inside for the bus, the station official don_t really want it. Megabus isn_t paying them anything (I think) so why should they accomodate their customers? But there_s no one stopping you from sitting in one of the bars in the train station and sipping a beer and waiting or eating at one of the restaurants and waiting, etc. I mean, how do they know what you_re waiting for. But if you_re just sitting there for hours doing nothing, they may ask.

  • Not sure about union station being confusing but i have taking megabus before. I always wait in the stairway and lot of peole so as well. There is actually a sign by the entrance that says that megabus customers are not allowed in the union station building but i still go in anyway especial to buy food or when it was cold outside.

  • chicago2210 - Union Station can be a little confusing the first time you go there, but really it_s not that bad. I used to work right around the corner from Union Station.

And, Union Station is a public place. ANYONE can sit in the great hall and wait (no security people are going to question you and demand your tickets) and eat at the food court. People come from the office building near Union Station to pick up lunch at Union Station.

    You_ll be fine...don_t worry.

  • MegaBus has its terminal on Canal St. near the entrance. You can come in and buy something at the food court. You can sit there. However, you cannot wait in the Great Hall because MegaBus hasn_t paid Union Station for that right. You have to wait outside on Canal St.

What is there to do and see along Interstate 80?|185824

Is there a shuttle or public transportation from Brookline MA to Manchester New Hampshire airport?|141909

My daughter is a student and I found great prices on air fare flying out of Manchester instead of Logan, but I need to find a way to get her to the airport that does not negate the savings. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • There is a free shuttle that runs from Manchester airport to Sullivan Square T-station in boston. From there, I think that she could take a cab to brookline or ride the subway or bus. Here is a link to the shuttle service:

    http://www.flymanchester.com/transportat

  • from brookline you will have to take the green line to haymarket and take the orange line to sullivan square and then take the manchester airport shuttle bus to the airport

  • What is the number for Tahiti Village the Las Vegas free vacation?|108052

I know its a time share and you have to sit though a presentation but i would still like to talk to them see when i could go down.... im actually looking to get a timeshare.

  • My wife and I went thru this a couple of years ago.
We were put up in a so so room at the Riviera.

The free show was one at the Stratosphere that we found can be seen for a $5.00 ticket and a 2 drink minimum per person.

You will waste about a half a day out of your Vegas vacation doing the presentation.

You will be bombarded by at least 2 sales people and 3 managers before they _let you go_.

A day at the dentist getting a root canal would be more fun!

So unless you have more time than money, no its not worth it.

If you skip out on the presentation, they charge your entire stay to your credit card, for full price. Yes, you have to give them your credit card number when you check in.

  • (702) 440-6800

These guys were a real pain when my wife and I stayed at the New York, New York.

  • holy hell, dont do it!! We got suckered into it on our first trip... what a mistake. 2 hours turned into 4 hours of sitting through their presentation.. until the manager finally pretty much yelled at us and told us we were making a mistake and stomped away ....

The lady who was giving us our free stuff before we left, tried to sell the presentation again... we were so mentally exhausted at that point, and again, for the 65th time, said no... she slammed our dinner and show tickets on the counter and stomped away also...

our dinner and show was imperial palace buffet.. and legends in concert.. lol

NOT WORTH 4 HOURS of timeshare presentation!!!

  • I agree with the others...absolutely horrible experience unless you enjoy being insulted for not buying their grossly over-priced real estate. The root canal is a better option.

Moving to Chicago from San Diego. Where r the best areas to live that are happening and exciting?|120091

I just got a degree in business with an emphasis in management. i would like to live in the city where everything is happening. I would like to be in an area where there is bars, restaurants, clubs, venues etc. At the same time I want to be close to the financial districts to land a job.

  • There are bars, clubs and restaurants everywhere. Chicago is a very _neighborhood-y_ city...there are lot of large neighborhoods with smaller more defined ones inside of that.

If you want an active night life scene near the financial district, try RIver North, West Loop or Gold Coast. The first two are walking distance to the Loop; the Gold Coast is maybe a 15 minute train ride down.

These neighborhoods are not cheap. If you are looking to rent...expect to pay about $1000 for a studio, $1500 1bd and so on. If you are looking to buy, depending on finishes, you would be pressed to find something you really want for less than $300k (small 1bd). Of course, there are bargains to be found, just depends on what you are willing to sacrifice.

I used to rent a 700 sq. ft. 1bd East of Michigan Ave. in Streeterville (sub-neighborhood of Gold Coast) for $1195, there we_re no amenities, window a/c_s, crap kitchen and not the best apartment...but the location was nice for the time I was working up there.

Hope this helps! I_ll check back soon!

  • PB (Pacific Beach) is where alot of young people/college age people live and party. It_s gorgeous but of course expensive. A one bedroom will be around $1,000/mo if you can even find one or find a job. But good luck anyways.

Edit- my bad I read wrong, thought you were moving TO san diego! sorry!

  • Loop, Lakeview, Lincoln Park, River North, Streeterville, and Near North are neighborhoods are to look into.

  • That covers a lot of ground but Mission Valley or anywhere near the beach leaps to mind.

  • LOL good luck with the finance sector
  • Can anyone tell me a nice place to stay while vacationing at Virginia Beach?|142623

We are planning a family vacation in Virginia Beach in the summer of 2009. There will be 3 adults and 2 children and we are looking for perhaps a summer rental for about a week equipped with full kitchen if possible. I know word of mouth is the best advertisement so I am putting it out there relying on past experiences. I would like to be close to the beach and also affordable of course. Any info will be extremely helpful.

  • Here_s a little guide to learn choosing and booking good holidays hotels and avoiding bitter surprises with the help of the web. There are several signals which allow to recognise if a Hotel is worth mentioning. Clearness and reachability are always an outstanding business card. A renowned Hotel always has to clearly indicate if services are either offered or included in the price: possible non-standard services such as swimming pool, SPA, Gym, Laundry room, Shuttle, Wireless Internet Access et cetera suggest a close attention towards the customer_s own satisfaction, who becomes a host. As well as the service offered, it would be good to indicate the position and the distance between the hotel and the heritage centres. Further attention should be given to the attractions tied to the region and its traditions, excursions opportunities and especially gastronomic specialities: food is always an asset.
  • Is there a good camera rental store on Oahu?|171645

I am traveling to Oahu next month and wanted to get some feedback on the Hawaii camera rental stores there. Let me know who you_d recommend!

  • Yes, there is a great place. Hawaii Photo Rental rents pro photo gear. They are affiliated with Imageworks in Kaimuki on the corner of 8th and Waialae Avenue. Their number is (808) 735-3838 and you can find them online at www.hawaiiphotorental.com

  • For camera rental suggestions I would try Hawaii Photo Rental in Honolulu. There is a credit card deposit but other than that it_s straightforward and the prices are reasonable. They have a large selection of Nikon rentals and Canon rentals, too.

  • What casino in vegas has the best comps, and what have you received?|134990

After you sign up for your players card, what have you gooten offers for in the mail?
What casino gives the best comps?

  • How about a month free(6/4 - 7/5), in Las Vegas, all for nothing more than a little quarter/dime/nickel video poker play.

I_m rapidly closing in on 2 years worth of free(comp) room nights.

Comps - Show _ Event tickets, restaurant _ buffet, show up cash, air(once), Limo, suite upgrades, _I_m sure there have been more but thats all I can think of.

    What you need to know
    What to play
    How to play
    Where to play
    How to manage your bankroll

The only time I pay for a room is when it_s _convenient_ _ inexpensive. _Sometimes I consider it to be to my advantage to pay for a room rather than take a comp_ By inexpensive, I_m talking somewhere in the $15-$30 per night range, at a nice hotel. The _why_ would take a while to explain!

If you_re going to play the comp game, you need to find a casino that has the game(s) you like to play, that will treat you well at your level of play.

    Books on the subject
    _Comp City_ - Max Rubin
_The Frugal Gambler_ - Jean Scott

I would need to know a few things to be able to recommend a casino for you.
What do you play(or want to try)? _and at what denomination?
    What_s your _daily average_?
    What_s your daily _bankroll_?
What hotel/amenities are most important to you?

When it comes to LV my favorite topics are gambling _ comps, yea, shocker, I know lol . If you have any Q_s feel free to e-mail me through YA, I will be glad to help you.

    ~Jack~

  • You_re welcome

  • They are all about the same. You can expect offers in the mail but you have to bet quite a bit before you will get a free room/food offer

  • I just got any three nights (including weekends) free in a suite at Venitian and only dropped about $300 there...

Stay away from Harrah_s properties for comps. They have a very strict tier system.

Mirage gives away buffets to anyone who asks for them. Ditto for the Golden Nugget.

  • You get a few one-shot things for signing up for a players card. The most common _incentive_ I_ve seen is a _match bet_ coupon, which is pretty much like a free wild-card casino chip that counts for as much as whatever you bet when you put it on the table, so your bet is effectively doubled, and you either win twice as much as your bet, or lose only what you bet. Usually you get two of these. Other common incentives include a free souvenir, usually a trinket like a travel mug or keychain, and discount coupons to their restaurants or shops (buy an entree, get one free, or 20% discount at the local gift shop or spa). A free pull on a particular slot machine or a free or reduced-fee entry into a tournament is also common. This is pretty universal throughout nearly all casinos.

The BEST comp book I ever received was several years ago in Circus Circus, which they termed _Outback Adventure._ You actually had to tour the entire place, going in between towers, and go to different counters to collect your goodies and ended up with a bunch of nifty little things. One was a travel bag (which we went to first so we_d have something to carry the rest of the stuff in). There was also a beer mug, a stuffed animal, a t-shirt, a pull on a slot machine, a restaurant coupon, and even some free casino chips, plus a few other things I don_t remember. I think it amounted to a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff once you used it all.

Now, there ARE higher value comps given out, but these are reserved for people who bet into the hundreds and thousands of dollars over short periods of time. You would need to bet at least several hundred or more to earn a free meal, and a few thousand to earn a free night in a room. The really high rollers can earn stuff like free limo service, plane rides, tickets, ski packages, etc.

But they also count _action_ bets, meaning anything you win that you put back into the games also counts as paying into the card, so it doesn_t actually mean you have to LOSE that amount. If you double your bankroll and then put the original amount back into the games, it_s the same as if you_d just spent and lost the same amount, as far as earning comp points go.

  • Suggestions for an affordable charter boat from angel island to San Francisco?|113379

We are having a birthday party on Angel island and have a picnic spot reserved until 9PM. It looks like the last ferry leaves at 4:30, so I was hoping we could hire a boat to take us home sometime around sunset and spend a little extra time on the island. There are lots of charter services, but they all appear to be package deals including food and drinks - we just want a nice one way trip home.

  • You can contact big companies even Ferries if you like to pay $5000 or you can contact small boats in Fishman_s wharf for several hundreds, but Angle island is state park, you need to get permission.
  • How to get from Westchester County Airport to Manhattan?|197137

Bought a ticket, and have to fly into Westchester County. I will be public transportation dependent, and am not spending big bucks for a cab, etc. Do they run buses from the airport to Manhattan, or do I have to get into White Plains to catch a train?

Also, for anyone who_s done this, is it pretty easy/convenient?

    Thanks.

  • The first person who answered is correct. The bus ride is only 10-15 minutes or so to the train station. You can also get a cab to the train station.

  • I_ve never done it, because so many people have told me it is NOT convenient. You will need to take a bus (Westchester _bee-line_ #12) to White Plains, then get on a MetroNorth train to Grand Central.
  • Is Connecticut a Good Place to Raise a Family?|195046

My fiancee and I are just starting to talk about places to settle down... He would prefer the East coast for the schools and loves outdoor activities. I want a relaxed safe atmosphere with plenty of cultural opprotunities. Does Connecticut sound like the spot? (I have never lived East of the Mississippi) If not any other suggestions?

  • I say YES. I grew up in Northeasten CT and it was semi-rural at the time (still is pretty much). We had 12 acres with woods and a river down back. I spent so much time outdoors doing _nature stuff_. It_s a great place for kids. One major plus about CT is that it_s very easy to get to Boston, NYC or Providence where, as you know, there are other great schools, museums, etc.. You can get a house deep in the woods in CT and know that you are only a few hours away from major cities like that.

CT is on the coast so you can easily drive to a beach in the summer (on Long Island Sound) or head slightly east, just over the RI boarder and go to beaches that are directly on the Atlantic ocean.

To be honest, the cities in CT are not desirable. New Haven, Hartford and Bridgeport are impoverished and parts can be VERY dangerous. Hartford ends up on some of those _Most Dangerous US Cities_ lists. Those cities are surrounded by very rich suburbs that are extremely expensive to live in with million dollar homes, etc.. Fairfield County is where most of the _rich_ CT people live since it_s closer to NYC. For the most part, the towns east of the CT River are a little less expensive and/or less populated. I suppose anywhere in CT may be a bit more expensive that most other states in the US. It_s not cheap to live there but that_s life on the East coast.

  • Connecticut has a good basketball team, i know they had a down year this year.... but Jim Calhoun can bring the team back.
  • What should I head for first when getting to Universal Studios or Islands of adventure?|139361

Heading to Orlando soon, and doing Universal Studios, IOA, and going to Halloween Horror Nights, any suggestions?

  • 0ooooh thats a toughy, i always have done universal studios first and then islands of adventure, dont know why though lol.

i love the mummy ride, and of course duelling dragons

whatever you do have fun and enjoy your trip.

  • Dueling Dragons at Islands of Adventure is a must! Plus you want to make sure to be able to experience it the way it is now before they retheme it for Harry Potter Land.

The Mummy at Universal Studios is a lot of fun too! Even the area they route the lines through is amazing.

Take a look at all of the attractions at both parks here...

    http://www.orlandominivacations.com/univ

  • it doesn_t matter the wait line in the rides are 5mins or less for each one of them. that_s one of the reasons i loved it there.

universal studios had a lot of 3d effects and simulations. it was pretty cool_
while islands of adventure was more of the traditional _roller coaster_ rides that most can associate with.

but both are real good and you can see both in one day_...may not finish them but you can see both of them.

  • I would go to spider-man first in IOA. Follow this link for a good plan on how to spend your day.

  • What is the fastest way to get from Portland to NYC relying on public transport?|179269

What is the fastest way to get from Portland to NYC using only trains and buses? (Without flying, driving, or renting a van or taxi etc.) Thank you.

  • You can take Amtrak:

The _Downeaster_ from Portland ME to Boston MA, where you transfer to either the _Northeast Regional_ (more stops, cheaper) or _Acela Express_ (limited stops, fast train, more expensive) to get down to New York City.

I would recommend taking the train over the bus for such a long trip-- It is MUCH more comfortable by train.

Reservations, routes and timetables for Amtrak here:

Hope this helps, and have a pleasant trip.

  • My friend, Portland, ME or Portland, OR? Which one?

    Good luck

  • Are you in Portland, Oregon or Portland, Maine? It does make a difference.
  • Is planet hollywood a good choice for a vegas trip?|131727

my friends and i are planning a vegas trip and we were thinking about planet hollywood for a place to stay. any thoughts?

  • Very nice hotel and casino. Great location .. right in the middle of the strip. Can_t go wrong that is for sure. The Hard Rock is far off the strip and you can_t walk anywhere.

  • You could also try staying at Bally_s (usually a bit cheaper in room prices) and it_s only two hotels north of Planet Hollywood. That is the happening spot though. Most of the partying hotels are within walking distance so you can_t go wrong staying in that area.

  • The PH(Planet Hollywood) is a great place to stay. It_s located on the strip North of MGM and next to Paris. PH and Paris is a happening place for anyone in their 20_s and 30_s. Compare rates at PH and Paris. Both are good.

You won_t go wrong choosing PH.

Check out this site for offer codes for when you are going.

  • I_d stay there in a split second. Location, location, location!!!! Their buffet isn_t too shabby either. I_d also stay at the Paris.

  • PH is nice but can be expensive. In order to save some money check the Planet Hollywood Promotion Codes on

  • Yep - nice hotel, good location on the strip.

Whats the best time to go to Yosemite National Park?|191784

I_m planning on going to Yosemite National Park for a weekend of hiking and enjoying nature. When do you recommend is the best time to visit the park? I have from now until June.

  • I have been to Yosemite every season. My two favorites is the winter and spring. The winter is great because of less crowds, beautiful snow, ice skating and snow skiing. May is great too. Go before Memorial day though, cause it really gets crowded after that. The water falls are running like crazy at that time. Hike Vernal falls, but bring like a rain coat, for you will get soaked hiking up to the falls. If you want to hike half dome, remember that the cables don_t go up till about memorial day or so. Check their web site for that. I LOVE that park and go every year at least once. I never get tired of it.

  • If you are bringing kids or if you only want some light hikings, go to Yosemite during Easter. The water falls are at full blown after 2 months of warmer weather. You can stay in the Valley, discover nature, while holding on to the comfort of most commodities such as showers, dining, and even swimming in a hot swimming pool.

If you are a hardcore hiker, then go to Yosemite in the summer between June and September. Mountain trails will be snow free. Bring bug repellent _ sun screen. I once went to Yosmite for 2 weeks backpacking in August. Mosquitos were everywhere: They were there when you pee; they were there in your deck of card when you play; they were there in your cup right after you have just pour water in.
  • Are there hotels in Los Angeles that do not have the 21 yr old age requirement?|180874

I_ll be 18 soon and i was planning a trip. I would like to stay at the Renaissance Montura Hotel in Los Angeles, but I could not find the age requirement there anywhere.

  • It_s unlikely that they would allow anyone under 21, especially around New Years Eve.

If you are traveling to the area (more than 150 miles from home) sometimes they will make an exception if you can prove that you_re not local with your drivers license. Basically, they want to keep _locals_ out because that is generally just a party.

You would need to call a few hotels and talk to the front desk manager and get confirmation before you book the reservation.

  • 18 is the legal age in California to sign a contract, so you shouldn_t have a problem! Why don_t you call them first?
  • Where are some good places to sleep when you have nowhere to go?|165707

My apartment is full of bed bugs and the exterminators arent coming for a few more days. I have nowhere to sleep and can_t afford to stay in a hotel. I have no family or friends in town. What are some good places in a big city (I live in Chicago) where I can get away with taking a nap here and there?

  • There_s a nice hostel downtown at Congress and Wabash, pretty cheap and near all the trains; I have friends who have stayed there.

  • sleep where the homeless do. on the streets. i_m sure its cold there right now... so do what they do for a couple of days. it will give you a new perspective of whats real, what is truly amazing. then go back to your comfortable bed.. and you_ll appreciate it that much more. and dont take your wallet, perhaps only an ID and two or three dollars. have fun. get to know life!

  • If you have a landlord that you rent from, you may want to check your lease or rental agreement, he may have to provide you with a place to stay while you apartment is infested and until the exterminators have come and taken care of the problem.

Do you have anyone that you work with that could let you stay with them for a few days? If not, you could most likely find a shelter that you could stay in. It_s not the best of circumstances, but is safer than trying to find places to sleep in public areas.

    Good luck and be safe.

  • a library, but they_ll close at night. maybe you can try a motel?

  • shelter

  • YMCA

Go out of town to vacation?

  • Try a youth hostel... they are about $30 a night..
  • When does it start to cool down in New York City?|190160

I moved here a few months ago from the dry desert and I just can_t take these muggy hot summer days. When does autumn start in NYC?

  • The weather begins to cool in mid september, but it stays warm and comfortable into November.

  • It will vary every year because of the different weather patterns..etc..
...but I like to say Mid September and beyond is where the weather normally begins to shift.

This July was actually not bad in terms of heat.....August seems to be murderous so far....

I think your going to find this weather more bearable unlike our winter weather in January, Feb and March.....The wind chill in NYC can be pretty intense....mix that with Ice and snow.....thats going to be fun experience for you.... =)

  • Who knows? We_re talking about the weather. If you could predict it, tell me who_s going to win the fifth race at aqueduct on tuesday. Unpredictable.

  • At the moment, 1:45 a.m., it_s cool and raining in NYC.

  • September

  • Around the end of August or 1st of September, you will start getting the occasional cold front that reminds you that fall won_t be too far away. It will gradually get cooler after that.
  • What are some amazing sites to see throughout California?|116236

A couple buddies and I are going to go on a road trip for about 1 month this summer, throughout California, but I can_t think of anything that would be a stand out. I live in California, so I_ve had the chance to see Yosemite and other main attractions. But we want to find something that is like a gem that not the average person knows about. Also we want to go backpacking! Any recommendations would be great!

  • If you want to find a _gem,_ you_re going to have to stumble into it or find it (or make it) yourself. If anyone knows one and puts it here, it_s then going to become... something that everyone knows about.

There are some beaches in Northern California that allow camping you might want to try. You could try wine country for a bit. If you go waaay far north in California things can be more secluded and you might try something like river rafting. The desert and Death Valley can be worthwhile. You might also want to try some of the ski towns in the summer (Mammoth, Tahoe, Big Bear). If you have the time and transportation, you might also head east a bit to Nevada/Vegas, Arizona/The Grand Canyon, etc. They might be different states, but the distances are comparable to driving within California. If you want a _gem_ keep an eye out for smaller towns on Route 66 and the like, but most things that are _amazing_ are already in guidebooks here and there -- the main question is if you can catch them during an unusual time of year, etc.

I will warn you that with the way California is having major financial troubles right now, and some cities more than others, you might find various public grounds and facilities closed or on limited hours, various businesses closed, some roads not being maintained as usual, unpredictable prices, etc. Be ready to be flexible, and for what may have been a _gem_ before to not be one now. California_s in bad shape, and some cities have started dramatic changes that will almost certainly alter visitor experiences from what they were prior. That might mean better deals and fewer crowds in some places, but it_s almost certain to mean disappointment in others.

  • Go to Dinneyland and Uni-reversal studios! Go to Hollywood and Vine to see all the main attractions and you may as well stop off and see Mann_s Chinese Theater and Hollywood Squares (If they are still there).
Six Flags is another goodie you may want to take in, if you have the time. You only live once! Go for all the gusto! :D
Well if you want to go backpacking in the mountains in uncharted territory I am sure you could find some guides or docents to lead the way. I would not want to venture out there in the wilds by myself... ooh!

  • Go see my friend Carole in San Diego.

  • Would it be possible to Sail the East Coast from Florida to Maine?|101021

What size recommendations would a sailboat need to be?
I have always had a love of the ocean. I want the ancient feeling of sailing some distance to my destination.
Any other tips and info would be appreciated.

  • Um, have you EVER SAILED before? I_m gathering not if you_re asking for tips and info.

I_d first take courses on marine safety and boat safety. There should be a United States Power Squadron near you. Take some classes.

As for a boat, it depends. Forget a sunfish or a dinghy. You_ll need some mass and length under you, and the ability to lay on some sail. If you plan to stick to the intercoastal waterway you_ll have a navigable route that doesn_t involve a lot of open sea from Boston on south to Florida.

I used to have a 26_ Chesapeake that I sailed once solo from Seabrook (near Houston) to Corpus Christi and back. With the southwest winds I experienced I made Freeport in 8 hours, but it took four more days to get to the CC Yacht Club (because I was continually tacking into those self-same winds). Only three days home. I made this trip because I loved to sail and wanted to justify my purchase of a (then) $20,000 boat in 1985. Eight days by myself was enough. Aside from my solo trip my girlfriend and I used it as a party boat for our friends on some weekends.

This was in the days before the Internet, so I was listening to NOAA weather radio at the top of every hour for storm info (it was June, which was early in the hurricane season, so there was little chance of encountering one, but I wanted to be sure). Since there is a fair amount of traffic on the Intercoastal I refrained from using my homemade autopilot most of the time ( two lines securing the rudder in a straight course)... just long enough to use the head if I needed to do more than pee.

It is a lot of work, and unless you_re an expert I_d recommend against it.

To see if you_d like to continue on this quest you might check into one of those windjammer type cruises where you work as crew on a sailboat for a week in the Caribbean.

  • yes it is possible--that_s where the phrase _Downeast_ came from...travleing _downwind_, so from the south heading north so that the wind is at your back..and traveling in an easterly direction since the coast of maine actually travels east and not north..sorry but that_s the only advice I have since I_m not a sailor

  • its done yearly. i don_t know sizes, i just watch them.

  • Am I crazy to move from the Pacific Northwest to Austin TX?|101876

We currently live in Washington state but are seriously considering moving to Austin. Our main reason for moving is to get away from the cold and rain. I love heat and humiditiy (have lived in Florida) so that is not an issue. We have researched schools, houses, etc and visited Austin so if we move, that is where we will go. My husband can keep his job and work from home. Everyone up here seems to think we are crazy for moving to Texas though! I love the outdoors (hiking, etc) but hate the cold so much that I can only be outside about 4 months a year up here. Has anyone made a similar move? Any advice our opinions? I dont_ want to regret this! Thanks.

  • I made this same move several years ago (Seattle to Austin) and it was a great move for me. I really just prefer sun and heat (I love the summers here in Austin) so Seattle was just not a good fit for me (I do not miss having to carry around coats in summer for the second the sun went down!), and I would never consider moving back. My quality of life increased so much just because of the climate change, that nothing else really mattered (like the fact that I make less money, job market is still a little tight, minimal public transportation, etc). People thought Texas was a weird choice for me as well, but that was just because none of them had ever been. I_ll admit I was a little nervous at first because of the Texan stereotypes, but I haven_t found any of them to really be true in Austin (except for people are friendlier here, that_s true).

  • Austin is great, i moved here from cali last november. it_s definatly different from the west coast... most people are alot nicer!! housing is great, not nearly as expensive as the west coast... theres alot of things to do and its very diverse.. you will run into alot of different people here... jobs are great cuz its the tech hub of the country.. i live around the corner from dell and samsung. so if your wanting to move to texas.. austin is the perfect choice~!

  • We moved from CT to 2 blocks outside of Dallas, Texas. That was over 20yrs ago, no regrets! We currently live about 24 miles from Dallas, just outside of McKinney, so we_re 6 miles from the nearest gas/groceries, not out in the sticks, but very pleasant. The only thing about your decision I would question is the city, Texas has a low cost of living, but Austin has the highest in the state. Why not McKinney, San Antonio or a hill country town like Fredericksburg? Depending on what you want to be near.
Below is some info I previously put togethe:r
If you want to be in the city then Dallas or Fort Worth, but there are small towns like Lucas within commuting range so you can have the best of both worlds. McKinney is less than 30 minutes from Dallas _ is growing but still real pleasant, Lowry Crossing or Princeton are real short hops from there but offer nice homes not double-wides, on land, for great prices, like 1,900 sq ft on 1 acre for around $155k. If you like the coast, consider Galveston or Corpus Christi. Avoid Houston, it is over-populated due to refugees from Katrina. Cost of living is much lower in TX and there is a huge range of terrain and climate.

One of the best things with Cities in Texas, if you can work a schedule that is a little off the normal hours, traffic isn_t bad. Living in the McKinney area gives us country living but short drives to all the amenities of the city. Dallas museums, opera, symphony, landmarks, restaurants, race tracks (dirt track, drag racing, TX Motorspeedway for NASCAR). Hospitals in McKinney, Allen, Plano, Richardson, Dallas: Healthsouth, Presbyterian, Baylor etc.
It is important to understand the difference between driving commutes in other states/TX; if I work late the I can make the 27 mile route home from Dallas, in 35 minutes, w/o breaking the speed limit, as there are only 2 lights _ 1 Stop sign. At rush hour I take back roads, 24 miles, yet still make the trip in under an hour, sometimes as quick as 45 minutes.

  • No, you are not crazy. The weather_s great and so is the city. From a political standpoint, Austin is very much like the northwest and the entire west coast, so it won_t be very different from that aspect. Lots of people come here from California for many reasons, so you are not the only one to make a _drastic_ move to Texas. Not all of us are cowboys. lol

  • No, you are not crazy. I am native Texan and moved to Washington State. I lasted almost 2 years before I had to move. The sun never came out and it rained all the time. The cost of living was outrageous and you could not get any good Mexican food. After 2 years I moved to Florida and have never been sorry. I would prefer to be back in Texas (that_s where all the family is) but until I can transfer Florida is fine.

  • Sounds like a good idea to me, especially with your husband being able to keep his job. You definitely won_t be as cold! Good luck to you both in your move!!!!

  • I live in San Antonio. San Antonio could also be possibly a good move, although it is slightly more humid here. But, Austin is fantastic! The city in general is beautiful! The small epicenter of metropolitan area of downtown is clean, easy to maneuver (unlike San Antonio_s downtown area) and delightful to walk around in. The parks are fabulous and kept clean, the lakes and rivers are abundant and the view is spectacular. The culture is diverse, interesting, and is a mecca of musical diversity and variety. It is a perfect place to raise a family, has a great history of education (schooling and career choices), and plenty of activities for all age groups. The cost of living is affordable (in certain areas, as with any other place some places are higher) and choices abound.

Altogether I would say that it is an ideal move. San Antonio (a larger populated city with a larger Hispanic population and culture) is only an hour away (with Six Flags and Sea World), Houston 5 hours away, and Dallas/Ft. Worth only 3-4 hours drive. So, Austin is a great central base to operate out of as well.

Great choice in relocation consideration and we welcome you and see you soon!...lol

  • northern california is nice. Chico/Redding and Eureka. Those areas.

  • Anywhere north of the Sacramento Valley. LA, San Diego, San Fran, Sacramento, are all pretty expensive. The Yuba City,Marysville, Chico area are relatively inexpensive compared to everywhere else in the state. I live in Yuba City. The housing market is at a boom, and it_s way cheaper than Sacramento. It_s a small metro area, about 100,000 people. 45 minutes from Sacramento. 2.5 hours from Lake Tahoe, 2 hours from San Fran. Pretty much right in the middle. And even though these knockoffs are remarkably close to the main manufacturers, you_re getting a cheaper quality counterfeit. Also add to the fact that if your bag ever broke, the main manufacturers would replace them....not in the case of a knockoff. If anything just TRY to bring in a knockoff into these stores and you may be arrested for owning counterfeit goods.

You took a BIG chance by going in a back room. Some of these places rob you...literally.

  • the only real reason is they pay no tax remember its all about the money...
some vendors pay a license to sell knock offs
some dont and those are consider illegal.. its a shame because the rich is trying to get richer
    P.S
believed or not some of these guys are selling the real purse
it came out in the news some of these purses are real and no one know lol...

  • There are several reasons why it_s illegal -- typically, they are smuggled into the country without the sellers having paid import duties. The sellers are also less likely to report their income or pay taxes on it.

There_s also the issue of copyright violations that are being perpetuated by the manufacturers.

  • they are knockoffs, not the real thing. losing the maker of the REAL thing millions if not billions of dollars, plus to taxes have been paid on the imported good. Others are similar but not knock offs. but might have similar patterns without the REAL purse makers name on it.

  • For the same reason that it_s illegal to sell boot-legged movies and CDs....

Give the designer and artists some credit....

  • Because the profits do not go to Louis Vuitton, Chanel or Dolce _ Gabana..
And some of the profits actually fund terrorism.

  • Copyright/design infringement, no sales tax paid, no vendor license,...etc....It is essentially black market goods.

Me and my buddy will be in Pittsburgh for 2 days after Christmas, is there any must sees? Any cool clubs to check out? Thanks for your help!

  • The road that gets you out of town.

  • Station Square and the Strip District have clubs. You should definitely ride one of the inclines and check out Mount Washington. The Carnegie Science Center is alright and the Carnegie Museum. The Nativity Scene outside the US Steel Building is pretty neat and there is ice skating nearby. There is some pretty good food in the _burgh, you might want to try Primanti_s they have several locations. Primanti_s sandwiches are famous for having cole slaw and french fries on them (but you can be a wimp like me and get the cole slaw on the side), still really good though.

Now taking suggestions for a great vacation destination within the US?|100617

It_s been a long time since my last REAL vacation, and my husband is soon returning from Afghanistan, and I_m thinking about surprising him with a vacation (we haven_t had much of a honeymoon). We_re not beach people; we like beautiful scenery; we enjoy music history; we_re adventurous and active people who like amusements and other thrill-seeking activities. All suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help.

  • To combine thrill seeking _ great scenery consider renting a All Terrain Vehicle) four wheeler) A side by side ATV like the Yamaha Rhino would be a blast. There are many of these rental outlets all across the west. Depending on what kind of scenic areas you enjoy _ season you are visiting would help you to decide where to go. One suggestion is:
South-Central Utah_s 275-mile long Paiute ATV Trail is a loop trail with no beginning and no end! It passes through several towns and has side trails leading to others. Dirt Wheels magazine rated the Paiute ATV Trail as one of the best 15 trails in the country. It has been rated as one of the top 5 trails in the country by ATV Illustrated magazine. Many riders consider the Paiute Trial to be the top US trail. This is a good ride in the early spring or fall.

  • For music history, the first thing that comes to mind is Nashville, TN, as well as Elvis_ home Graceland, also in Tn

  • I would go to Mackinaw Island, MI. If it were my choice. They have a website, I am not sure what it is but just put Mackinaw Island, MI in your search engine. There are no cars allowed on the island so it is nice island you can just walk around at your own pace. Hope this helps.

  • My favorite has always been Mesa Verde, Colorado. It_s a national park. Stay in the Far View Lodge. The lodge is on top of the mountain at 8000 feet and at night you can see for 200 miles in every direction.

If you get tired of dead indians in the park, Arches monument and Zion canyon are close by, as is four corners.

  • Maybe Seattle? It_s beautiful over there with greenery all over. Also, the city center is really nice, lots of stuff to do, shop, visit museums, sightsee. I think there is a Music Experience museum over there.

You could also go snowboarding if you plan to go during snow season. Mt. Rainier is pretty close to there so I_m sure there are a lot of activities, such as hiking or mountain biking.

It_s also only a three-hour drive to Vancouver, so you could pop on over there for a day or two to see the city.

  • If you like the outdoors, Cooperstown New York. It_s a small _baseball_ town, but you truly get an _outdoorsy_ feeling.

  • San fransisco thru the Redwoods to Astoria Oregon, finish with Portland Oregon.

  • NOrth Shore of Minnesota - quite the _artsy_ community in Grand Marais and you could swing over to Hibbing to soak in some Bob Dylan.

  • Eureka Springs, Arkansas sounds exactly like what you want.

  • niagra falls may be touristy, but if you haven_t been there, it really is amazing and awe-inspiring. i highly recommend visiting. also, national parks like those in california and washington are beautiful. hike up the waterfall mt. vernal in california_s yosemite.
  • Is it too early to find good deals for Vegas for October?|132138

Just searched and nothing under 600 today yesterday it was like 500??

  • I just checked out the Bellagio Hotel (spectacular place). They are currently running an on-line special. I checked out October 8 and 9 and they have a room available for $179.00. They also are running some Air/Accommodation packages, but I didn_t look at them.

    www.bellagio.com

  • I just bought tickets to Vegas for October yesterday. The day before yesterday I looked and the tickets were $10 cheaper. I looked today and they were $10 more.
I don_t know where you live but I always fly Allegiant Air because they have direct (and cheap) flights (and packages) to Vegas and if you live in the US more than likely they fly out of a city near you.

  • It_s not too early. The earlier you start the better. To find cheap flight to Vegas, do a search on Kayak engine. It will check all the major travel websites and airlines and return all fare from your city to Las Vegas showing you the lowest prices. All with one click of the mouse.

  • How long would I survive in the desert in Arizona and Nevada with no water but got water from cactuses?|199551

If I know a little about desert survival, how long will I make it just wlaking, how long until I_m dead meat?

  • There is much more to survival in the desert than water. But IF you knew what youre doing you can make a solar still and get fresh water from damp sand. A human can live a few days without water. But prolonged exposure to the sun can take you out much faster than that.

  • Is the King Of Prussia mall worth a three hour drive?|100512

I am planning on taking a trip to the King Of Prussia from CT is it worth the drive? About 3 hours and $35 in gas.

  • It all depends on why you would do it. It is the second largest mall in the US. It has some great stores, restaurants and it is conveniently located near major highways. If you live in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, and are looking for a day of shopping, it is probably worth an hour drive.

But, I am sure that between CT and PA you will pass the exits where there are at least ten malls with the same stores, the same chain restaurants that are conveniently accessible to the interstate.

If you want to tell people you have been to the 2nd biggest mall in the US (bragging rights?) I guess its worth the trip. Does it have anything there that you can_t find in half the distance? No, It is not like the Mall of America with amusement rides inside or anything that dramatic.

Don_t get me wrong, I really like the the Court and Plaza (the fancy names for the K of P mall). But if I were you, i would wait till I had some other reason to stay down here for a few days before I went to see it.

  • Don_t listen to those KoP haters! Sure, it has the usual (Old Navy, Modells, Penneys) but it also has the unusual - high end designer shops of all kinds, and seven different department storers. If you are a dedicated shopper, you might kick yourself for not going - in terms of actual retail space, it is bigger even than the legendary Mall of America, it just didn_t bother with such things as roller coasters. So just for the sheer spectacle, you should take a look, just so later on, you can say _Yeah, I went there. It was no big deal_ while secretly remembering what a good time you had.

Bring comfortable shoes, of course, and note that in Pennsylvania, there is no sales tax on clothes, so if you buy enough, you would offset the cost of gas and tolls.

While you are down this way, you might also consider a drive into the city - lots to do in Philly.

  • No! Please don_t get fooled. It_s just not worth it, plus the traffic in that area is just brutal. One wrong turn and you will be on the turnpike heading west. You will really get aggravated. Plan something else, go see a movie. Good Luck!

  • It_s an overpriced version of stores that are in every other mall. It_s about 20 min from my house and I_ve only gone once in the last few years and that was only to go to the IMAX movie theatre.

  • No mall is worth driving 3 hours. They all have the same stores and the same stuff.

  • hell no

Where can I go to participate in a sweat lodge ceremony in North Carolina or surrounding states?|187136

Me and my boyfriend are going on a roadtrip over to the coast, and desperately are looking to join in a sweat lodge ceremony. It_s been hard to find any information on the internet other than just explaining the ceremony, Please help!

  • Which part of Hawaii is the best place to vacation?|196769

I know there are so many beautiful islands, but I want to know where the best place to hang out at night and the not so overcrowded beaches are? I am planning on going there in December. Thanks in advance for your opinions.

  • I have read up A LOT on the islands and have personally been to both Oahu and Maui.. Maui is by far my most favorite! Oahu is great if you like nightlife and shopping. Waikiki is basically a big city (like LA) with a really nice beach. Its a very crowded place, freeways everywhere.. Maui on the other hand is a lot more peaceful (but not as isolated as Kaui). There are a ton of things to do on Maui (outdoor things), and quite a selection of restaurants/bars/hotels to chose room--while at the same time quiet, beautiful and a good place to _just relax_ if that_s what you chose for your vacation. Wailea is my favorite area in Maui.

  • I for one love Oahu! I have been there five times, and really enjoy it. There are soooo many things to do, and I have found that the beaches are not as crowded as people want you to believe!! I stay around Waikiki Beach, and really it is not that crowded!! It is not like you are walking up on top of people like a can of sardines!!! That is totally ridiculous!! I have been there in May, and in April. Hope this helps you some!!

  • kauwie its the best and check out a place called kuapu falls you can jump off a water fall its only 30 feet but its the best and all the islands are to comercial its got tons of reefs and turtles and stuff youd love it.

  • Lahaina, Maui to hang out at night. Restaraunts, shops, live music, secluded beaches for miles. Also 5 miles North of Lahaina, Kaanapali. You can walk through allof the hotels, Htatt Marriott, _ Westin, Kaanapali Beach Hotel _ Sheaton. They all have shops restaraunts _ the Westin has 7 pools, the Hyatt has a rope bridge crossing their pool _ a swim up bar. Live music in all the hotels. Whaler_s village next to the Westin, there are lots of great shops _ excellent restaraunts in Whaler_s village. Many of the hotels have killer all you can eat brunches _ buffet dinners. Some of the best food you_ll ever have in your kife. Hawaii has _pacific Regional Cuisine_ which is flavors from all over the pacific rim combined w/ great seafood. There is a sidewalk that goes for 2 miles on the beach that connects all of these hotels. 10 miles up North, by Kapalua are great beaches w/ very little people. After the Sheraton is The Royal Lahaina Hotel w/ a wide long beach. The best luau is The Old Lahaina Luau,.
  • Whats the maximum number of pets a person can own in Portland, OR or Multnomah county?|148558

Is there a limit to how many dogs, cats or both a person/household can own within Multnomah county, or more specifally Portland? I currently have one cat, but am interested in adopting at least two dogs and maybe another cat in the next few years.

  • I don_t think there is a limit legally but that depends on a few things.

If you rent then the owners have the say so.
If your animals are _not under your control_ at all times then certain citys may have ordinaces to remove them. IE if you have cats running all over the neighborhood and someone complains then you can loose them. Dogs have to be quiet excetra.

  • What are some things I should do while in Denver, CO with my family?|187031

My husband, myself and my 8 month old son are going to Denver, CO for our anniversary. On Sunday we are going to the Bronocos vs. Cowboys game but Saturday we are looking for something fun/interesting to do. Any ideas would be great.

  • Well, the Denver Zoo is nice, I_ve taken babies there while babysitting and they always like the fish in the tropical discovery the most. There_s also the Downtown Aquarium. My favorite downtown restaurants are the Old Spaghetti Factory (built in the historic trolley turn-around house) and BD_s Mongolian Grill. Croc_s has great Mexican food, and the Appaloosa Grill isn_t bad either!

There_s shopping in the snobby-chic Cherry Creek district, or the 16th St. mall. If you don_t mind venturing into the suburbs, there_s Flatirons mall and Park Meadows mall. The newly built Boulder Mall is nice, and since you_re out there you should totally hang out on Pearl St. for a while. Tours of the Celestial Seasonings Tea Factory are fun, and Boulder has a million great trails. Some are paved if you want to take a stroller, but my friends use the baby-back-pack things and go all out while hiking with their kids.

Care to visit the nearby city of Colorado Springs? Garden of the Gods is amazing, and there_s also Manitou Cliff Dwellings out there, Seven Falls, Cave of The Winds (but I_m not sure that last one is stroller accessible.) The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is cool, that one is smaller than the Denver Zoo, but you get to feed the giraffes out of your hand!

Last but certainly not least there_s the mountains themselves! The elk should be bugling, and the best bet for viewing them is at Rocky Mountain National Park. It_s really an amazing sight to see! The nearby resort-town of Estes Park is fun and my personal favorite restaurant there is _The Other Side_ which is near Rocky_s main entrance.

Whatever you decide on, I hope you have fun and enjoy your stay here!

  • What hours does airtrain run to and from Newark International Airport?|173012

I am considering staying in Newark instead of the city for a mid-week trip. My decision is hinged onto whether or not I can get back to the airport hotel at late night.

  • The Newark Airtrain is a monorail that runs to and from the different terminals, parking lots, and the train station there. There is no cost.

To get from the city to Newark Airport, you_re going to have to take either New Jersey Transit or Amtrak. They stop running about 1:00-2:00 in the morning. Then you have to take the Airtrain to the station where the airport shuttles are allowed to pick up from. Plus NJ Transit and Amtrak charge a $10 surcharge to board or depart a train at the airport station.

If you miss that last train, it costs about $50 for a cab (from experience).

  • My friend, the Newark Airtrain runs around the clock. You_ll be able to a train at any time. If you taking NJ Transit, however, the last train to leave Penn Station departures a about 1:30am.

    Good luck

  • The Newark AirTrain runs 24/7.

It runs every three minutes from 5:00 am to midnight and every fifteen minutes thereafter until 5:00 am.

  • Can you recommend a nieghborhood to in Kansas City to live in?|171652

We are a newly married couple moving to Kansas City. We are looking for somewhere that has restaurants and parks. Somewhere nice anything under $1000/mo. Any help would be appreciated.

  • South KC is nice~ the Red Bridge area.
    Lees Summit Mo is nice
Overland park or Prairie Village Ks is also nice
North KC Mo is a good option also

  • Please add some additional information - what else do you like to do? Everywhere in the area, save for the rundown parts of the city, has restaurants and parks.

Do you consider yourself an urban loft sort of person? Are you small-town people? Do you like the suburbs? If you_re planning on having children soon, is being in a good school district important to you? What sort of cultural activities are interesting to you, if any? Do you have two cars - Kansas City has little to no public transportation available, so that could restrict you.

Also, where do you work? How far are you willing to commute? Kansas City is a sprawling city.

I live on the Kansas side of the metro, so I_m only familiar with the communities south of the river. Northern Johnson County (and western Olathe) has some older, more established neighborhoods, including some areas that are drying up, but still have a lot of character. Southern Johnson County (south of I-435, including east Olathe) is wealthier and newer. Downtown and Midtown (along Broadway, from 25th to 45th street, roughly) have some great little loft and redevelopment neighborhoods springing up. Taxes are higher in Johnson County than Wyandotte County (northern KC, Kansas side). If you live in Kansas, but work in Missouri, you_ll pay additional income tax, so keep that in mind.

  • 119th _ metcalf to 135th _ Metcalf in Overland Park, KS if you enjoy the suburbs. There are lots of restaurants and apartments in that price range. If you like more of a city vibe I would recommend staying on the Missouri side in KC. Downtown/River market area has some nice lofts and it is quite trendy but there is still a lot of work to be done. Another nice area in KC is the brookside and waldo area. Look in the area around 50th and Main to 75th and Main. Only drawback is there are not many apartments, mostly homes.

  • Do not do Olathe there are stating to me trashy areas out there now and it is getting super busy with tons of traffic. Same goes to Metcalf. Never live by Metcalf. There is so mush construction that it will last for a long time. I like the answer about Bonner and Piper because right now they are offering 95% tax free for 10 years on houses. Right now we just moved into a new house in Bonner and have that and our monthly payments are $1100 a month. I love it and the area. We are congested with traffic but we also have awesome highway access. Also all the cops and firefighters live in Piper or Bonner. Good luck. Check out Speedwayrealtykc.com for houses.

  • Check out my answer to the most recent question you asked....I think you would like living downtown or any of the suburbs I named that are very close to downtown (like 15min drive).

  • Bonner Springs or Piper.

  • 74th and paseo

  • Try Olathe Kansas, It_s a nice town thats part of the KC Metro area

  • 40th _ Main is a nice spot, as well as 36th _ troost-older areas.
  • Any words of advice for a first-time visitor to Bricktown in Oklahoma City?|121222

We_re going to see Matchbox Twenty at the Ford Center at the first of March and want to know of any good restaurants to eat at before and a good bar and/or club to hit afterward. Thanks!

  • GO TO TOBY KEITH_S BAR AND GRILL OR ZIO_S, WHICH IS A REALLY GOOD ITALIAN RESTRAUNT. CITYWALK OR SKYY BAR ARE THE BEST CLUBS IN BRICKTOWN. IT IS FREE FOR LADIES UNTIL 10, SKYY IS $8 FOR EVERYONE, I BELIEVE.

  • What do people from other states think about people from New Jersey?|169562

I am from Jersey and people always have stereotypes about us so I want to know what you really think. Have you ever met anyone from New Jersey or are you just saying this because of what you_ve heard? Thanks so much!

  • We get a bad rap from movies and tv. I wish it weren_t the case, but it is. But if those people came here and visited some of the quiet and quaint town or drove down in the Pine Barrens and saw some of the horse farms they would think differently. I get offended by the show, Jersey shore and I want people to see positive things about Jersey, but that doesn_t make for good movies or tv. So basically I have learned that if people believe what they see on tv or judge a whole state based on one experience, then its not worth my time to try to change their mind and that_s one more spot for me at the beach. Jersey is the best!

  • New Jersey people are loud, pushy, rude, self centered wannabe New Yorkers. All Jersey people have mob connections. The good restaurants only front as legit businesses to hide the prostitution, numbers running, drugs and extortion rackets happening in the backrooms. Trucks get _Hijacked_ all the time by their owners to scam the insurance companies. Everybody has Italian surnames. Those that don_t get beatup. No one has a real job. Everybody hangs out in barber shops and has names like Vinnie and Guido. All the women are Catholic and are name Maria.

(How_d I do? Is this stereotypical enough for you?) lol

  • I have met someone from New Jersey (however he wasn_t living there at the time) and he seemed cool. But going off straight stereotype you think ghetto black / italians who are loud and very obnoxious. I have never been so Idk how it really is. I really don_t think about it all too much to be honest.

  • Great question! I_m from New Jersey too, _ get tired of hearing the jokes about us. It_s sad that people think this way, especially since most of the people making the remarks haven_t even been to New Jersey. Some of them have met one person from our state who may not have be nice _ they think we_re all like that. Thanks for asking the question. I can_t say that I enjoyed the answers though. Well...at least we know they_re not right.

  • Lessee ...

Aside from the mosquitoes that carry off large cows ...

There are signs as you enter NJ that say _New Jersey welcomes good drivers_. That_s because it has none of its own. (Just drive up or down the Turnpike in a snow storm.)

And the governors you vote for. Some of them are real jokes.

  • people think Jersey is gross bc of tv and movies. They don_t know about the beautiful neighborhoods, great scenery and wonderful resturants---the best resturants!

  • I assume they all have spray on tans, put massive amounts of gel in their hair (the men), wear obscene amounts of makeup (men and women), and they are all well represented by that Jersey Shore show.

  • Jersey has good Jerky

  • Ghetto Italians...the people on that stupid Jersey Shore show on MTV.
  • How do I get from Ft Lauderdale Airport to the nearest beach?|119131

I will arrive there on Wednesday morning and I have a five hours connection flight to wait for. I thought the nearest beach could be a good way to spend time. I am looking for a cheap option.

  • Try Dania Beach. It_s pretty close. Maybe a 7 minute cab ride.

  • I did that years ago. Go grab a cab and just say, _beach._ It_s really close and maybe $20. You can walk around and spend some sun time before heading back to the airport. Have fun.

  • Exit the Airport area and go North on US-1. Continue until you reach 17th Street causeway and turn right. Continue on 17th street east until you reach the beaches. You will pass over the intercoastal waterway and Port Everglades on the way. 17th street eventually just brings you right out to the beach.

  • Just go east a few miles and you will hit the beach....

  • take a taxi to Fort Lauderdale

  • Go East........

Theres a body of Water about 1 mile away called the Atlantic ocean. Check it out.

  • Its about 5-7 minutes away from the airport. Just get in a cab I guess and tell him to talk you to a beach near by in Ft. Lauderdale. The Airport is right by the coast line.

My cousin and I are going to college in Rock Island City. We want to live in an apartment instead of a dorm, but the apartments in the city are WAY to expensive for us. So are they_re any cities, or small towns within 10 miles of Rock Island with cheaper real estate?

  • What do you think is the most safest, cleanest, affordable entertaining city is in the US?|163133

Please only answer if you have been there or have a very good knowledge of the city. In addition, when I mean cleanest I mean not very dusty and no extreme amounts of pollen because I have allergies to them.

  • We go to Branson Missouri and love it.Rooms are reasonable, lots of entertainment, safe, and lots to do.Try it out.You can walk the strip, play golf, go to an amusemnt park, attend great shows, visit a winery and so much more.

  • Branson Missouri in September!
  • When will it start getting cold in San Antonio?|161043

This Summer has been one f the hottist,we_vee been over a 100 almost every day. Now its been finally going down. Although i do like the heat, but when will it start getting cold enough to wear a jacket and pants everyday? i know it will already be cold before christmas gets here even though Winter doesn_tt start till the 21st of December this year. but when can i expect it to start getting cold?

  • It starts to cool down toward the end of October, but doesn_t get seriously chilly until January, which has an average daily temp of 49.3 degrees, and usually at least a few days below the freezing mark.

You_ll have a few chances to wear your jacket in November and December, but unfortunately San Antonio only has two real seasons: Summer and January. ;)

  • Actually, it has been a pretty average summer for Texas, no matter where in the state you are. The summer of 1980 was far worse. _84 was all water rationing and the like, and blistering hot. (I worked construction for a whopping four weeks in San Antonio that year.)

When does it get cold? It cools off in October, and after Thanksgiving you_ll probably start wearing a jacket.

  • Actually, San Antonio has 4 seasons......summer, summer, winter and winter.

  • Typically mid-december to january. And it won_t be gradual, you_ll walk outside and it_ll be a freezer.

  • If you_re looking for FREEZING cold, then that will happen between December- January.
  • Where is the best and nearest place to Los Angeles to watch the Meteor shower on August 11 and 12?|166299

  • Mt Pinos is a little closer.

    Lancaster is OK, too.

  • stay somewhere local, or like no more than a 2/3 hour drive. a full tank of gas would probably get you far.

  • Any advice on what places to see and things to do while on vacation in Chicago?|104771

I am going to Chicago next week. I know I want to see the Sears Tower skydeck, Navy Pier, Millennium Park and the Hancock building I am just overwhelmed by how to pick what other places to see. And which is worth it. Are some of the museums worth the visit? We will be there 4 days. Just getting some advice from others.

  • Sears (Willis) Tower will give you a great view, especially from _The Ledge,_ which is a new glass porch that allows you to actually _see below your feet._ I would go to the John Hancock Building for the sky view. You can have a great meal or enjoy a cocktail with the view for free:

Chicagland has over 50 museums. Some are well known while others are hidden jems. Go to the following site which will connect to them...some are free:

Millenium Park is a _must_ for all visitors. Enjoy modern sculpture, a view of the skyline, and plenty people watching...all for free:

Navy Pier is a destination for IMAX theater, a cruise on the lake, small souvenir shops, a giant ferris wheel, and fireworks on Wed _ Sat, and more:

The Cubs will be away, but the White Sox are at home. What about a major league baseball game?

Many people come here to shop. Michigan Ave has all of the top name stores...not free:

Be prepared for spending $$$. If you_re driving here, the parking lot fees will almost break the budget. Hotels and admission fees are not cheap, but you already know that. Cab fares are high but the CTA is not. Your hotel concierge will direct you to the closest bus stops and _el_ stations.

If you plan a lot of museum visits, get a Chicago City Pass or a Go Chicago Card:

Lastly, a deep dish pizza. There are several downtown locations. All are good but expect a line. My favorites are the originators...G _ H below:

  • If you even a little bit of a culture vulture don_t mis the new Modern Wing at the Art Institute. Another great museum, but a little out of the way is the Mexican Museum. Check the concerts and rehearsal in the Park. Also the best tour - and we send everyone that visits us - the Chicago Architectural Foundation Boat Tour on the river - this is a MUST. I would also tell you to be sure you get the CAF tour!

  • Sears Tower, John Hancock, Millennium Park, You could do all of these in one day...Navy Pier is very nice try to go on their boat tours, and if you feel up to it you can do the bike tour ;0) Ohh...Don_t forget to hit the great cafe_s and restaurants in the down town area...Not to brag but we have great food.
I hope you enjoy your stay!

  • You can go see the Sears Tower And the john hancock building
Some great museums are the field museum and the museum of science and industry.

  • there are so many museums. the art institute, Museum of science and industry, Field museum, planetarium, aquarium, and some lesser known ones

Is the Centerpoint Energy Plaza building in downtown Houston have an observatory in its upper floors?|181274

I would like to go to the upper floors of a really tall building, but most buildings don_t permit this after Sept. 11, 2001. I live within driving distance of downtown Houston and have heard that Centerpoint Energy Plaza building has a restaurant way up there. Does anyone know anything about this building? If not, does anyone know of an alternative building? I want this mainly for sightseeing at night.

  • The JP Morgan Chase building has an observation deck on the 60th floor. It_s the tallest building in Texas too, with 75 floors.

The observation deck is only open during working hours though, so Monday-Friday 8AM-5PM. Be sure to check out the downtown tunnels too while you_re at it.
  • What is the best dinner and show to go and see at disney world?|156157

My Children and i are going in May of 2008, my kids are going to be 3 _ 6, I will also have my nephew he will be 2. What is a good one to take them too?

  • Sleuths Mystery Dinner Show is the best in Orlando.. it isn_t at Disney but it_s close.

    http://www.orlandofloridasucks.com

  • The luau at the Polynesian.

  • You_ve heard of Epcot center there for the young and old. There is something in there for everyone ,beautiful
restaurants, and shows. At these ages it_s hard to suggest
as they get frightened by so much fast moving objects.

  • For the dinner shows make sure to make reservations in advance, they can be hard to get in to!

My personal favorite would be the Hoop-De-Doo Revue, which is at the Fort Wilderness Campground. Theres lots of singing and the people come out to your table and ask questions and various things so its very interactive. The best seats are downstairs so you can have a better chance of them coming to your table, but upstairs is a good view as well. One time when I went we were sat at a table in the far back by the doors which was where the Disney Executives sometimes eat when they come and several of the people in the show came over to our table, it was really nice. They serve Fried Chicken, Ribs, and other American food and delicious Strawberry Shortcake for dessert!

Another popular dinner show (that I havn_t been to, sadly) is the Spirit of Aloha Dinner show, which is a polynesian Luau with with music and dancing. They serve an all-you-can-eat feast inspired by polynesian culture. The show features hula dancers, fire twirlers, and more! Its located at the Disney_s Polynesian Resort, which is a really nice place to visit.

  • I_ve never been but the Hoop Dee Do Review is one of the best dinner shows at Disney. I hear it_s hard to get reservations so you have to make sure you get them well in advance.

  • Mickey_s Backyard Barbecue, they can dance with the characters and have a general blast, my son loves it to this day and he is 15.

  • Definitely the Hoop De Doo and request to be seated downstairs - much easier to see and be a part of the action. Enjoy!

  • Straw-Berry Shortcake!!!

    Hoop De DOO

  • do not do the hoop-dee-doo musical revue i think this is more geared to older kids or teens and adults we went last year and our kids were 7 and 11 and nephew was 6 or kids liked it except the 11 year old but i think they would of enjoyed it more if their was disney characters their this is what i thought when i made reservations this year were going to mickey_s backyard barbecue so we can be with the characters well i hope you have a good time

  • My goodness, well of course you_ll have to go to chef mickey_s character dinner! They have very good prime rib, _ your children will LOVE the character dinner!! I highly suggest you DONT take them to the woopty doo review or whatever. I went there _ it was just a disaster! The food was HORRIBLE. As if they just re-heated some microwave dinners _ food on the bone, _ just very dissapointing overall. The show was HORRIBLE!! My family _ I hated the atmosphere as well, it_s very olden day like. So I wouldnt suggest you go there unless you like to wait a long time, with a reservation, _ get horribe food _ a bad show.

My opinion- Chef mickey_s or any character dinner is perfect. They have that time where the kids get up _ walk around the restaurant to the beat of mickey toons. Ultimate place to eat on vacation! Have a great vacation! Hope this helped :)

  • The Hoop Dee Doo Review is by far the best because you_re in an enclosed space with lots of air conditioning and the staff enjoys working with young children. There_s lots of singing and dancing, and the food -- fried chicken, for example -- is the sort of thing that kids will actually eat.
