What is the closest beach to the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego?|172115

I want to know which one is the closest beach and if there is one that has easy to get to transportation from the Gaslamp Quarter. I will have a vehicle but would rather walk to a bus/trolley/ferry and pay for those fees rather than pay for parking. Any information would help.

  • You have two choices for nearby beaches. First there is Shelter Island, which you can drive to (parking is free). There_s a sidewalk that runs along the length and park benches for a picnic lunch and a small beach area.

Second, is Coronado. You can take the ferry across to the island, but the beach is a bit of a hike from the ferry landing. If you drive across the Coronado bridge, you can park down the street from the beach and walk to it. It_s easier and it also means you_ll have the car with you afterward so you can explore the island a bit if you like. There are a couple of nice beaches on Coronado, but my favorites are the one right behind the Hotel Del Coronado (big and clean) and the one right right next to the bridge itself, you can see it when you come across.

  • The closest beach (and it_s a nice one) is Coronado. Parking can be a bit of a problem. If you want to enjoy lunch or brunch at at Hotel Del Coronado you can park in their lot for free if you get the parking validated.

It_s a couple of miles from the ferry landing to the beach or I_d suggest the ferry, which is a nice ride from downtown San Diego and only costs $3.25 each way. It_s a 15 minute ferry ride but then a long walk to the beach.

Ocean Beach isn_t too far and it has a free parking lot. You_ll find info, pictures, and directions to all of the San Diego beaches at this site:

  • Coronado is the closest beach to downtown. You can take the water taxi across the harbor and then a cab or bus to the beach. A car would be quicker.

  • Coronado
  • What goes through your mind and what are u feeling when u see pictures of the World Trade Center?|158822

Although I don_t live threr anymore, I_m a native NYer by blood, and every time I see pictures of the WTC from the past or on TV or in a movie, I get a lump in my throat. I have books and pictures of the Twin Towers and I_m glad I least have that and the memories too. My heart goes out to those who lost loved ones in the 911 tradgety also.

  • I just think of what could have been if we were in a world that didn_t include all this violence. It has just escalated to such a point that I don_t know if we_ll ever recover from it. It still tears me up to see the towers, but I don_t mind seeing pics of them in older movies and am glad they are still there to see because it is a constant reminder of something that was good. But it will be good again once the new towers are up and we show that we as a nation will prevail. I_ve since visited NYC and I love being in this great city.

  • You have asked two questions here. I first will address the question. How do I feel when I see pictures of World Trade center? I feel great pain and sorrow for those who lost their lives, those who lost loved ones, those that were injured, and the rescuers and workers; who have become ill or died because of the toxic materials.
Then I also feel disappointment and some anger. At the fact that the already wealthy spouses and family_s of victims of this tragedy got hundreds of thousands of dollars for compensation. While the least affluent and most in need spouses and family_s got a mere penance for compensation for there great loss. And because of the so called charities stock piling the donations for the victims of the great tragedy. When it was intended for these victims. As well as the politicians using this tragedy as a photo. op.
Now as to what thoughts go through my mind when I see pictures of the aftermath of this tragedy? I see the end results of unbridled greed, lust for money, and decadence. These worldly traits were also evident in the disbursement of the funds to the survivors and the family_s of the victims.
I apologize if this sounds harsh, But I have been totally honest with my feelings and thoughts on this subject.
    God bless

  • A couple of years ago, I went with my mom, aunt, and uncle to the movie World Trade Center. After seeing the movie, I wanted to see the place for myself. {Btw I live in NYC}. My dad, mom, and I went to the World Trade Center site and I broke down completely {12 years old} after seeing pictures of people covered in dubree. My heart went out to the people that lost someone is 9/11. It is heartbreaking how everything change in just a couple of hours. One of my friends that is my age, lost her dad who was a firefighter. I felt so bad for her when I found out. 9/11 happened when I was about 6, I remember going home early not even knowing what was going on. Everyone in school was leaving early, we thought it was just a coincidence. Now that i am older to understand what really happened, I feel more knowledgeable. When ever I just think about 9/11 and how tragic is was, I feel sick to my stomach, get a lump in my throat, and I feel choked up.

RIP all 9/11 victims and my heart goes out to you all Victim families. _33

  • I feel a deep sense of loss and _holy anger_ - what a great loss of lives! What a senseless destruction! I get angry with those who were used by the devil to commit this evil crime against humanity. It brings back memories - that day as I was sitting there, numb from the shock of seeing those planes ploughing into the WTC on television, the tears just kept flowing. As I wept, I prayed that many may be saved - the aching of my heart seemed unbearable, _ I pleaded for the lives of those caught in the Towers. The sheer horror of seeing those desperate souls jumping off the Towers to their death will remain a nightmare to me, and certainly to all of us.

  • I think of how drastically the world is changing (for the worse, unfortunately), and how quickly! In a heartbeat, the whole world changed, the loss isn_t just for us in America. The fall of the towers was symbolic all over the world, and should send a message to every country to take these threats seriously and fight against people who want to kill us and destroy our way of life. But people still stick their heads in the sand and ignore it...most normal people can_t get their minds around the concept...they don_t seem to really believe that there can be such intense hatred and murder aimed at *us,* when most of us are just minding our own business and living our lives as decently as possible.

  • Utter disbelief, sadness, horrified, anger, fear, sorrow....to this day if I see something on TV or on the net, I will watch it. Thinking of all those who perished with no way out and knowing that they would die. Then those who died instantly without a reason. Still wondering how anyone could do such a horrible thing. My heart aches for all who lost someone in that moment. It_s something I_ll never forget. Even now I get teary eyed watching something about it.

  • I wonder why we spent so damn much money on a nuclear arsenal and then don_t use it. There was a bully in my high school who made the mistake of coming at me. After the ambulance came and I was arrested, he never messed with me again !!! We don_t need to start a fight but we can darn sure finish one.

  • It_s something that is etched in my brain.....I will never forget where I was when I heard what had happened....Like I will never forget the day the Challenger exploded.....People will never forget the impact that this had on our nation.....even though sometimes it seems as if they have swept it under the rug.

  • Just like alan Jackson sings his song _Have you forgoten_ all of them same feelings come back.I remeber exactly what I was doing, and at first I did_nt realize we were being attacked,or I just did_nt want to beleive it.

  • at that time i saw the news, it really make me so mad!
it was like for no reason to do that.
i was extreme mad when i saw the news.

  • I think of fear I felt that day. I also wonder why we never here the name Osama Bin Laden anymore. I also wonder why my president was reading a book about goats while my people were running through the streets screaming in fear.

  • Its a wakeup call from God to all american_s. Unfortunately that unity mentality is long gone. I feel when President Bush gets out it will happen again.

  • Sadness

  • The horror.
  • What state do you live in? Would you rather in a different state?|111361

If you do want to live in a different state, what is it and why?
I was just wondering if anyone lived in my state.

  • none I_m British and i wouldn_t want to live in any state of America, lol i heard half the women are self image obsessed, often skinny with fake boobs, fake noses and hair extensions and the other half are morbidly obese. (kidding) x

  • Growing up in the Army, I have lived in alot of places. Right now I live in Kentcuky. My favorite place to live is Savannah Georgia.

  • I live in Northern Michigan and love it here in the summer and fall (May through November). In winter I would rather be in a different state. I have stayed in Fl and SC and seem to prefer SC during the winter. Not real hot but no snow and I still can do things I enjoy.

  • I live in the state of insanity.

better than living in the state of confusion though.

would rather live in the state of bliss.

  • Minnesota. I love it here, it suits me perfectly! Plus, we got one helluva fabulous hockey team!!!

  • I_m in Colorado. I love it here but am thinking of moving to Tennessee. Why? Good question. I_m going there sometime this summer to visit and see if I like it. I have friends there who say I will.

  • I live in Michigan. I like it here, i have lived here my whole life, i would not want to move, I am comfortable here and know a lot around town. it would take years to know another city as well as the one i live in now

  • I live in Fla. It_s really nice here except for during the summer because of the heat, humidity, and hurricanes. But during the winter, spring, and fall the weather is wonderful. While everyone else is freezing their butts off, were enjoying mild temps! Most of the people here are really friendly but they do drive fast! Everything is so lively because we have a lot of construction, and commerce, so I feel like I_m in an upbeat area. I_ve been to like Virginia, and Tennessee, and I would like to own a summer house in North Caroliina or Tennesee on the mountains during the summer. There_s lots to do here because our weather is so nice during the year.

  • I live in Tenneessee. And I would rather move to a whole nother country. Canada to be exact.. I want to move there cuz I know a lot of net friends live there. And i want a change of climate.

  • i live in brooklyn new york. and no, i don_t like where i live. i have 3 boys 3 year old twins and a six year old. my own son don_t even like it here. i rather live in a different state cause too many people got killed in my area in two years. and its just not safe. i_m not saying that there is not violence anywhere you go, i would rather MUCH less of it. also with a peace of mind when i go to sleep. i_m getting rready to move to atlanta.

  • I live in Missouri. Sometimes I wish I was living in a different state. I love the seasons here though. I would miss summer if I lived where it was cold all the time. I would miss the snow (alot) if I lived where it never got cold. Oh and who can live without Spring and Fall in MO. I figure I can always vacation somewhere else. I would miss MO if I moved.

  • I live in TEXAS! Are there other states?
Actually I_ve traveled a lot and I am always so happy to get back home to TEXAS.

  • Yet another Floridian responding, like everyone else I moved here from somewhere else. We have nice weather, decent beaches, some culture (you have to look for it), and no income tax. But, it I had my druthers, I_d go back to my previous abode in Arizona. I miss the deserts, the mountains, the wide open spaces, the wild life, and decent Mexican food.
