Whats the cheapest way to travel from VT to NY?|177715

A friend and I need to catch a bus/train/magic carpet/other means from Burlington, VT to New York, NY on February 1st and we need to return the following Sunday. Amtrak is over $100 and Greyhound goes as low as $50.

Any suggestions? Getting someone to drive us is out.

  • check jetblue.com, sometimes it offers $39 to $49 one way ticket to New York JFK.

  • Try putting an ad in the local paper.....don_t go Greyhound.....they really bite !!!!!!
  • What are the best areas to live around Atlanta?|177234

We are an inter-racial couple with a 12 year old child moving to Atlanta. I_m Jewish and my gf is West Indian. What areas are safe, diverse, with a good school district and within a reasonable commuting distance to downtown?

  • The County of Gwinnett is the best place to live in my opinion. the cities of Grayson, lawrenceville, snellville, and loganville are very diverse in race, creed, etc. my aunt lived in grayson for about 20 years before moving to SC. i have lived there for 2 of the 20 years. In Grayson, you are about 30min from downtown. but there are 5 shopping centers within 6 miles of Grayson.

  • Roswell and Marietta, extremely low crime and excellent schools. Also several synagogues.

  • Stay near Atlanta, the rest is very Republican! Try Alpharetta

  • Where they dress with their jeans down to their butts and talk all weird.

  • Roswell and Marietta

  • You_ll find the most diversity inside the perimeter (I-285). Atlanta is basically a blue-state city in the middle of a very, very red state. The further outside the perimeter you go, the less diversity you will find.

Midtown is reasonably safe, as is Virginia Highlands, Decatur, and Vinings. Atlanta_s crime rate, as a whole, is pretty high, so be prepared for that.
  • What is the best scenic river trip in Jackson Hole, Wyoming?|193554

I prefer large, endless, beautiful views, lots of wildlife, and good service. I have checked the rates and it sounds like the Grand Teton National Park trip is the best but also most expensive, please help!

  • There are many rafting companies that use the Snake River. Have you compared their prices?
They use the area because it is so beautiful, is accessible and exciting!
Some combine a float with a white water rafting adventure.
With the Grand Tetons to look at while floating along!

I can only suggest you keep checking them all out on the net till you find what you want and what you can afford.
  • Can anybody recommend a compelling Katrina tour of New Orleans?|143522

A few buddies and I are visiting New Orleans next month. We are all very interested in taking a compelling Katrina tour of New Orleans and are looking for suggestions of reliable and high recommended companies that can provide such a tour. We would prefer a private tour in a van as there are about 6-8 of us. However, if the tour is awesome, a bus is totally acceptable.
I greatly appreciate your assistance in identifying such a firm. Their website and telephone contact information would be greatly appreciated in your response.
    Thanks very much!!!

  • I recently took several of the Katrina disaster tours to find out what the guides were saying about my city. The most professional of the tours was by Grey Line. They have a website
    http://www.graylineneworleans.com/

Despite what _deanie1962_ says, all of the tours are safe.

Also, a red X on a house does NOT mean someone was found dead inside. The X is a search _ rescue mark: The top is the date the building was searched, the left is the unit designator (ex TFW means police from Texas Fort Worth), the right is hazards (such as a gas leak) and the bottom is the number of people found. The number at the bottom of the X is almost always zero now.

A red X just means that was the color paint they had.

  • Gray Line Bus Company has a Katrina tour. Here is their website. I believe they do a private tour but you have to have 10 minimum. Their website is:

    http://www.graylineneworleans.com/katrin

You may find other tours but Gray Line has the best, but more importantly SAFE, tour. The tour does go into the less desirable neighborhoods, since they were one of the hardest hit areas, along with Lakeview. New Orleans East had a lot of poorer neighborhoods, and the majority of the residents were unable to afford flood insurance, which is very sad because they are left with virtually no means to rebuild. Lakeview is a richer community, but they were still impacted just as hard as the East, but there is a lot of rebuilding going on.

You will be very moved by this tour. It is very surreal, and brings you face to face of what can happen in a few hours time. The most disturbing picture for me is seeing the red X_s on the houses, and more so seeing the ones that indicate a death. Being a resident of this area, now 2 years post Katrina, it still bothers me to see that. The television showed alot, but not nearly what you will experience.

Enjoy your trip to New Orleans, and be safe.
  • Is Diamond Head in Hawaii fit for the disabled and elderly?|139785

My parents and I planning a trip to Hawaii this spring. I_ve heard that Diamond Head is a great place to go for great views. I_ve read some things about hikes and narrow passages. My parents are older and they can_t take heavy hikes or lots of stairs. Is this a place we should plan on bypassing?

  • The climb to the top of the summit is over 760 feet high and can be very challenging for the elderly or disabled individuals. There are also over 170 steps that your parents will be required to climb. You can visit the Diamond Head information and facts page at
    http://www.sharinghawaii.com/attractions
    for more info.

There are plenty of other scenic locations on Oahu that are more accessible to the elderly, such as the Pali lookout. They could also consider a easy hiking trip to Manoa Falls or Waimea Falls - learn more at
    http://www.sharinghawaii.com/attractions

  • I_m sorry but Diamond Head is just not accessible, there are a lot of stairs (99+) and the passages are narrow, so Diamond Head simply won_t work

BUT - try the Pali lookout - you drive right up to the parking lot and it is only a few steps to the lookout. From there you can see a panoramic views of Honolulu, Diamond Head, KoKo Head, the wide Pacific Ocean and more - its windy so hold onto your hat =)

    Aloha!

  • Here is information on hiking Diamond Head and other trails, I would say your parents should pass on hiking Diamond Head.

    Oahu Island site views.

  • yeah, it_s a big diamond head, maybe like 43 karats, enjoy the sparkling diamond when you get there. but you can_t steal it, because there are many security

  • There_s probably a couple hundred stairs. I would pass.

  • no way! too steep!

  • It_s a short hike, but the stair is not good for them.
  • When are the Halloween decorations at the Disneyland Resort put up?|138363

I am visiting the Disneyland Resort on September 11 to 15, and would really love to see the parks decorated for HalloweenTime! I know the official celebration begins Friday the 25th of September, but didn_t know if the decorations would be up prior to that. If you know when the decorations are up, please let me know!

  • Hi,

The Halloween decorations will be done on September 25th. They will be up until November 1st. I hope you can make it. Disneyland has the best decorations. If you can_t make it, try to make it to see the Christmas decorations. That_s from November 13th to January 3rd. Sleeping Beauty_s Castle looks absolutely beautiful. Everyone loves and anticipates the holidays at Disneyland.

  • Decorations are going up NOW! By the 11th, they will all be up. The new Halloween fireworks won_t start until the 25th, and Haunted Mansion will be closed for the holiday overlay, but you should see most of the decorations.

Hopefully, they will have Murphy, _The Reluctant Dragon_, working at the Fantasmic show by then.

  • They say it will be the Tuesday Prior. Had the same question and asked a cast member when I was at the park last week. Space Mountain and Haunted Mansion are closing on the 8th to _Halloween _the attraction....

  • Not sure, I know that they start decorating in September. The haunted mansion is usually closed during September but you_re able to see some of the Nightmare Before Christmas decorations peeking at the top. Not sure what days though they actually start so you might see items here and there.
