How cold are the winters in the southern United States?|145784

I_m coming from Canada. I_d like to visit the southern United States later on in the year during the Fall and Winter. I don_t mind wearing a coat.

How cold do the winters get in the South? Is is still enjoyable to go out and explore the cities? Are most of the tourist attractions shut down?

I plan on backpacking across all the southern states so all answers are most welcome!

  • Here in North Florida it can get into the 20_s sometimes a little colder. But it also warms up during the day. And the cold spells don_t last more than a week or so then it will only get down into the 50_s or so for a week or two then we_ll get another cold spell. But it_s generally quite pleasant.

  • they can get in the twenty, usually thirties or fourties. but nothing that could stop you from exploring the cities, none of the tourist attractions are shut down usually. however, the schools shut down at the mereist threat of snow. unlike the north, we don_t have a readily supply of ice, snowplows, car tire spinners, etc.

  • Well in Texas - it doesn_t get too cold. Around 30s for the coldest days. Other than that pretty enjoyable.

  • in the 20s down here in south ga. i hear it snows a little up around atlanta but never seen it.
  • How do I get into the States from Canada if Im only 17 and my parents didnt know about it?|137669

If it helps, I_d be going in with my fiance, who is 18. Would it make a difference if I go with him?

  • I know of very few 17 year old girls who married their 18 year old fiances against their parents_ wishes, whose marriages turned out well.

    That_s a lie.

I know of NO 17 year old girls who married their 18 year old fiances against their parents_ wishes, whose marriages turned out well.

If you have to outwit your parents to get married, you_re too young to get married.

There are two ways for you to find out if I_m right--the hard way or the easy way.

    Your call.

  • You would need a parent guardian or parental consent form
  • Where would be good places to enjoy the wilderness in New Mexico?|148286

I have been to Taos, Carlsbad, Santa Fe, and thats about it.

  • The Gila Wilderness in the Southwestern part of the state. Also Chama, Ruidoso, Red River, Jemez. Even the Sandia and Manzano Mountains 20-30 minutes East and Southeast of Albuquerque are beautiful. NM has over 16 million acres of acres of forested land, it_s not just a bleak desert as some people believe.

  • Lincoln National Forest has lots of winding roads and beautiful scenery though it_s been over 20 years since I_ve been there.

  • Sierra Blanca White Mountain Wilderness area just outside Ruidoso, New Mexico. Cloud Croft and Red River areas.

I have never hiked at Sierra Blanca but trails are there. I have seen elk, wild mustangs and mule deer.

  • How cold is it really in orlando in december?|121330

I am going to Orlando from 1st Dec until 14th Dec. How warm or cold is it there at that time? Considering I am from England and it is currently 13 degrees C at the moment and this is a warm day in winter for us.

  • You_ll probably want to pack more pants than shorts as it tends to get cool at night and stay cooler in the mornings but don_t over pack on winter clothes. Like a lot of places though, it really isn_t predictable! Have fun because Orlando is a great place!

  • 13 Celsius = 55.4 Degree Fahrenheit

It can get to below freezing at night. Or you could be comfortable in short pants and short sleves in the day time. But you_ll probably want long pants and short-sleve shirt and jacket/cartigan.
Winter is the _Dry Season_ in Florida.
You may or may not want to use the hotel pool or water-slide park. Hard to tell.

Check the weather - extended forecast before final packing before leaving home.

Fourteen days is a nice long holiday trip for you. I hope you get to see lots of great stuff.
Your chosen days are some of the cheapest hotel rates of the year. Good for you!

  • Really hard to say. You just need to check before you go. Normally, you would be talking about a light jacket in the evenings, but sometimes cool or warm spells hit. It could be hot, it could be freezing.

  • The average temp for the first 2 weeks of Dec is high of 23-24c and low of 13-14c

  • It depends

it could be in the 30s and 40s for a low and 60s or 70 for a high

    Farenheit

  • did you lose 24 pounds to look good at the beach.....
temps vary from 35ish to 80ish...one never knows...
