Where is the best place to live in the United States?|110540

Where is the best place to live in the US based on available jobs, rate of pay, Cheap apartments for the best amount of space(looking for a 2 bedroom), climate and safety? I am currently in Albuquerque NM. Average rent for a 2 bedroom is at least 600.00 a month and they are pretty small.

  • I hear Austin, TX is blowing up for jobs and a great place to live. Also, check out Nashville, TN or Louisville, KY for slightly cheaper places that still have good jobs available.

  • I am from ABQ so I am very familiar with that area. I would suggest North Carolina, where I currently live. The Asheville or Wilmington areas are really booming and excellent for things to do, particularly outdoor activities. Asheville is in the Mountains and Wilmington is on the beach. Asheville is a little like Santa Fe with the arts and cultural things going on. Unlike Santa Fe it hasn_t been taken over by the _Wanna Be Movie Stars_ and north easterners

  • / Not here in the MD/D.C./VA area...

Average rent for a 2 bedroom is at least $2,000.00 a month, and they are pretty small, too.

I think anywhere having a huge housing crisis might be a good bet, but the job market might not be good. - Florida, Las Vegas, California, etc.

  • try pennslyvannia its cheap but might be hard to find job u can work gas station or amusement parks there many like dorney park its really fun there
  • How much is it really going to cost to go to NY for a night?|121931

I live in RI and plan on going to NY with a bunch of people for our friend_s 30th birthday tomorrow- I_m splitting the gas with one person and will have to find an over night parking on the east side. Dinner should be about $50 and it usually costs $50 to fill my tank (which is currently 3/4 full and has about 231 miles before I have to refill.) Also I_m spending the night at a friend_s apartment for free. My parents are saying that its going to cost over $200 but I really don_t think it will... Whose right?

  • There_s plenty of free overnight parking in the streets of NYC but a word of caution...it_s common that cars with out-of-state plates get broken into...but that_s probably because the owners don_t know any better and leave stuff out in the open. If you don_t have anything worth stealing in the car, then it should be safe to park the car in the street. If you decide to do street parking, MAKE SURE YOU READ THE STREET SIGNS CAREFULLY!!! Sometimes they are tricky and you could end up parking at a Tow-Zone after 1AM and find out the next morning that your car is gone. Paying the parking ticket and getting it out of the tow pound is gonna cost you well over $200.00.

Dinner is tricky. You know how some people like to order the most expensive dish on the menu and order more than 1-2 drinks when they know the bill is going to be split evenly amongst the guests. They_ll make out like a bandit while everyone else ends up footing his/her bill as well as the birthday boy/girl_s dinner. Well...that_s how some of my friends are. =) If you add a bottle of wine too, watch out...that_ll pump up the bill considerably. Dinner could definitely go way over your $50.00 limit so be prepared.

I_m not familiar with the amount of tolls it_s going to take to get to NYC from RI. Have you factored in that amount on your under $200 budget?

Your friend probably knows NYC better than me...where do you go to watch a free show?!? =) Unless you_re talking about a bar or a club with a performer which also may or may not have a cover charge.

Good luck with your road trip and get to NYC safely!

  • If you avoid the Connecticut Tpke, and take 84/684 down from Brewster, you_ll avoid almost all tolls. You know what mileage your car gets, but gas in NYC now starts at about $3.19/gallon.
Your dinner price seems about right, and if you can crash for free, I don_t see running as high as $200, even allowing for breakfast and a meal on the road. It_s that free show I_m wondering about.
Oh, and be very careful about where you park. NYC has a nasty habit of towing cars, and you have to pay a towing and storage fee as well as the ticket before they let you have your car back.

  • that is a tricky question... it is NYC, it could cost alot or nothing more than the cost to get there.. you can park your car in the city on the weekend for well under $30, heck, ask your friend where the free parking is! .. if you don_t intend to drink or go to a club where you have to pay to get in... and not including the costs you already mentioned.. figure another 50-60 bucks... for parking and brunch the next day..

my guess.. total cost is slightly under 200

    good luck!

  • If you are talking about NYC.
It all depends on were you eat, they have cheap restaurants, and expensive ones, and if you do any shopping, or club hopping.
I just got back from NYC, and I did not spend allot of money.

  • depends what city

  • If your going to have to find over night parking, that_s going to cost a bit depending on the area. 24 hour parking can range anywhere from $25-50. I lived on the upper east side on 75th and there were about 4 parking decks located on that street and they all varied in price. I took 95 on down into Manhattan once and it cost me about $6 for toll. If you don_t plan on doing anything else, then it shouldn_t cost any where near $200, but don_t forget to factor in cost of taxi or sub.
  • What historical things are there to see near Mesa Arizona?|191727

I_m going to a place called Sun Lakes Arizona for a week in November. I googled it and it_s near Mesa Arizona. I would like to know what historical monuments or wonders of the world are in that Area. I plan to drive 3 hours (I think?) to the Grand Canyon. Is there anything else I should definately see? Thanks!

  • Sun Lakes is on the southern edge of the larger Phoenix metro area. It is closer to the towns of Chandler, Gilbert and Tempe then Mesa (although Mesa is not that far away either).

Before listing some of the historical and natural attractions in the Phoenix area, I should note that from Sun Lakes, it will actually be about a 4.5 to 5 hour drive to the Grand Canyon (because you are starting from the opposite side of Phoenix). And that is assuming you don_t leave around rush hour.

As the poster above mentions, there is a large historic Mormon temple in Mesa (Mesa was largely founded by Mormons) which is worth checking out. Mesa also has an old historic downtown area with turn of the century buildings.

In downtown Phoenix, the famous Heard Museum is considered one of the nation_s best museums for Native American arts and history. The Phoenix Museum of History is nearby and not too far away (near the Zoo in Papago Park) is the Arizona Historical Society Museum.

Being in Sun Lakes, you will be fairly close to the large prehistoric Hohokam ruins at Casa Grande National Monument (near the town of Casa Grande) which is pretty impressive.

A little to the east of Phoenix are the beautiful Superstition Mountains that are said to be the location of Lost Dutchman Goldmine. There is a interesting (if winding) called the Apache Trail (AZ88) that runs between the mountains and the lakes of the Salt River. Near the start of the road (at Apache Junction) is the Goldfield _Ghost Town_ which is really more of a tourist attraction than a real historic site, but it can be kinda fun.

On your way from Phoenix up the Grand Canyon, you could stop at Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon (famous for its red rocks and expensive resorts). There is also the interesting prehistoric ruins just off the highway at Montezuma Castle National Monument. And if you are into historic sites, you might like Jerome - a historic turn of the century mining town with lots of historic buildings - which is perched on the side of Mingus Mountain a little off the main route to the canyon.

To be honest, while Phoenix has lots of resorts, malls, golf courses and movie theaters (like you would find in any big city), it really does not have that many special attractions (historic or otherwise) that are unique to Phoenix and most of the older historic sections have long since been bulldozed and built over. Most of the more interesting historic and natural attractions are a ways outside the city.

  • There is a beautiful temple in Mesa Arizona, there is also a desert national park and some spectacular desert scenery.
