How can I dedicate a bench, a plaque or a brick in New York City?|138124

My mother passed away last year and I_m trying to dedicate something to her, preferably in the Marine Park area in Brooklyn or in Manhattan. I know that you can dedicate a bench in the Central Park for seven thousand dollars but thats too expensive for me and is beyond my reach. Any ideas?

  • Is Maui a good destination for a family with two young kids?|148824

So we have two young kids, 4-year-old and 1-year-old respectively. I_ve heard people saying you go to Oahu to see the culture and to Maui for natural scenes and beach sports. Is that true? If it is, is that a good idea to bring the kids to Maui? Any more suggestion on where to go and what to do in that island is appreciated!

  • In my opinion, Maui_s best attraction for young children is the Maui Ocean Center. It_s one of the country_s best aquariums and it will probably keep your 4-year-old fascinated for hours. The beaches are wonderful too.

  • Yeah! I went there a few years ago with my parents and it was awesome! Your kids will love it even though they are so little. They have some beaches that are really good for kids and its a lot of fun. Gosh i forgot what they are called its on the tip of my tongue but there are party type things with Hawaiians and dancing and food and i went there when i was 7 and that was pretty cool. There are many things you can look into kid wise so i think its a really good place to bring kids! :D

  • Sure especially if you stay in a kid friendly resort. but depending on where you live, the flight might be too long for them. I want to go there so bad but i live in NY and I can_t stand an 11 hour flight. But i think it would be a wonderful place for your kids to visit. good luck and have fun =)

  • Yes! My whole Family goes to Maui for Christmas every year! We have kids that range from 16-6, they all love it! If you go, you_ll have a great time!

Im only going to stop for food and gas and on night lodging, looking to get there, and have fun but no time for tourist attractions just a nice ride.

  • Hard Rock Cafe; yeah I know it sounds funny but it_s a pretty popular club for the surfers/beach bums- plays reggae and Hawaiian music

The best by far for any age group is Pipeline Cafe! Friday nights are 18 and over. Vast range of people from locals to military. Music is hip hop and anything with a good dance beat. You_ll love it!

What is a good source for keeping up with filming happnening in Boston?|132080

I know more and more movies are being filmed in Boston, and I always hear of people going to see an on-site filming session, or just going for an open casting call or to just see the celebrities.

What is a good source/website or other way to keep up with what is being filmed where?

  • For more information: mafilm.org has an online magazine. Some current filming info included, but primarily a promotional site. The Quincy Film Bureau has a list of South Shore based talent agencies (quincyfilmbureau.com). The jackpot is at newenglandfilm.com, which has current industry information and an active jobs board.

  • Maybe this one. Ben Affleck_s been in my neighborhood all week. Exploding cars, gunfire...

  • Are the interstates in and around Los Angeles really that bad to drive?|116235

We are planning a family roadtrip from Santa Fe new mexico to Los Angeles...we will be flying to santa fe(we live in Pittsburgh, PA) my dad is scared about the interstates in LA saying they are too dangerous and everyone drives too fast and we woun_t be able to handle driving on them. Specifically we would need to be on the 405 and interstate 5 and interstate 10. Are these roads bad for a non-californian? Once again we live in pittsburgh PA so we are not completely sheltered from city traffic and interstates

  • If you can drive on the 376 and the like in PIttsburgh, the freeways in LA will not scare you. You are perfectly OK here to drive the speed limit as long as you stay in the right two lanes. WHen my daughter first learned to drive here in Orange County she was scared to go out onto the 405 but once she was on it, she says it was easier to drive on than the surface streets.

The accident and injury rate is lower onthe LA freeways than on the surface streets.

I have lived here for 9 years and when I went to Pittsburgh to my daughter_s graduation from Chatham I got truely terrified in the Swissvale tunnels and on the 376, far more than anything LA could ever havd out.

  • I_m originally from Dallas and I don_t think the freeways in Los Angeles are any different than driving there. I never had any problems merging, even with Texas plates on my car. Just drive at least the speed limit (not under) and we won_t give you any obscene finger gestures. If you see something interesting park your car and walk and not by driving 15 MPH under the speed limit to gawk.

Most of the time the freeways are too congested to go very fast.

Google Maps, Yahoo Maps, even GPS don_t give very good directions for getting around the city. That_s speaking from newbie experience. Buy a real paper map of the area in advance. AAA or most gas stations sell maps.

The freeways and many of the streets are in bad condition so if you think the wheels are about to fall off your car it_s just rough pavement.

  • Most of us find the freeways too slow, bogged down by traffic most of the time! Sometimes the 405 is soooo slow I want to get out and walk, and I_m talking about the weekend. During weekday rush hours, there is no rushing.

The trick is planning ahead so you know where you_re going and what the signs will say. You can_t figure it out while driving on the freeway unless you already have a good knowledge of the area. When traffic is moving fast, if he stays in the slower lanes to the right, he should be fine.

If your dad can be patient and not freak out if he misses an offramp, he won_t have a problem. Just get off the next offramp and check your map. It_s not a big deal, happens to everyone at some time.

    Have a fun adventure!

  • people who say this are absurd, i_ve lived here for years and only approached the speed limit on a couple of golden days i can remember like they were my birthday. if you want to practice you can just sit in your car in a parking lot. i_ve been to every other major city and they_re nothing like DC or Miami or something where everyone is a maniac. they call it the 405 cuz you will go 4 o_ 5 miles an hour. why you guys are planning to drive all around so much when you come on vacation is another question, you will get to spend about an hour outside the car if you go all around like that.

  • Non a non-Californian. A non-Angelino.

Take it from someone who makes visits to Long Beach, I find LA freeways scary! I am not used to 5 lanes and extremely fast speed limits, so I am always on the 4th or 5th lane to get to an exit or to another freeway safely.

You_ll be fine though. I haven_t been in an accident in Los Angeles, yet. I figure I might as well get used to it if I go to school in CSU Long Beach or any school in LA anytime soon.

  • They aren_t bad if you are not a person that gandys You need to know where you are going and go with the flow of traffic.
If the traffic is running 80 mph and the speed limit is 65 and you go 65 you will be given a ticket for impeding the flow of traffic.
In other words if you don_t want to run with the big dogs stay on the porch.

  • First the bad news-----Traffic on the 405 between the 10 and 101 starting this month will be at a near stand still for the next 3 years as they add another lane and redo the bridges. They will be closing off 1 north bound lane in a few days.
The Good News- You won_t have to worry about fast LA drivers......Just Road Rage.....LOL

  • The roads are fine. It_s the drivers that will kill you.

  • LOL! Oh man. The 405? Do you KNOW why the call it the 405? Because you go 4 o_ 5 miles per hour, THAT_S why.

If you_re from Pittsburgh, you should be fine. Frankly, you can_t get over 55 on any of those freeways anytime during the day. The traffic around LA is terrible. Yeah, there are a couple of agressive drivers out there, but nothing like back east. People who have come here from back east tell me that LA drivers are too slow. So go figure.

I-10 is pretty fast from Blythe to San Bernardino, but slows down as you get closer to LA. Just stay in the right lane, and you_ll be fine.

The best part about the interstates here is that you don_t have to deal with snow, and rarely rain. If it does rain, Angelenos over-compensate, and drive REAL slow.

    Have fun!

  • What are some good tourism sites in the california bay area?|113454

For the family, and not like the golden gate brige and other obvious ones.

  • I always think it_s a good idea to take a bus tour of a city first.
To help familiarise yourself with the city_s layout.

~~ For panoramic views of the city and bay, Coit Tower, atop Telegraph Hill is the place to go.
~~ A cable car ride in Frisco is a must (just hang on tight - you_re most unlikely to get a seat!)
~~ For shopping go to Union Square, one of the city_s three original parks
It is now a public space atop a multi-level underground parking garage and ringed with elegant shops and hotels. The Powell cable car line begins about a block away, and the theatre district is nearby.
Or just walk around downtown, beautiful shops, street art and lovely restaurants/delis/cafes abound.
~~ Lombard Street, known as the _Crookedest_ Street is actually neither the crookedest street in Frisco nor the steepest!
But it is the most famous and very pretty when the flowers are in bloom.
The _crooked_ section is the block below Hyde Street.
~~ Visit Alamo Square to look at the beautiful Victorian houses aka _The Painted Ladies_.
Beautifully kept they are synonymous with San Francisco.
~~ I also recommend a cruise of the bay, one that takes you over to Alcatraz. This is a must while in town
~~ You do need to cross the Golden Gate Bridge - just to have done it! Or do a guided walking tour of it.
~~ You can easily spend a day at Golden Gate Park, the Japanese Tea Gardens is worth seeing - beautiful and serene. And the Conservatory of Flowers.
~~ To find the real Chinatown you need to leave behind what architects created for the tourists and delve into the alleys, shops and restaurants.
~~ Spend a day strolling around Fishermans Wharf, eat seafood outdoors, cooked before your eyes.
Street performers and artists add to the wharf_s colour.
Pier 39 has some good tourist shopping and the elephant seals are enjoyable to watch (and noisy).

This is just a few attractions I would recommend to anyone visiting Frisco.
    There are many more.
I have found a link for you: Only in San Francisco - it is the Official Visitors Site.
Have a look and see what else Frisco offers:

    http://onlysf.sfvisitor.org/

  • You can walk down the windiest/curvy rode in San Fran. You used to be able to drive down it but the rode got torn up too much. you can go to Fisherma_s Worf and/or Pier 39. Take the tour of Alcatraz(kinda obvious). China Town in San Fran is amazing! Great America but that_s in San Jose. If you are into looking at antique shops just go to the heart of San Fran and walk up and down the streets and you will find something to do. Make sure to bring a sweater. Its cold by the bay! Its a fun place to visit and live. Was there for 16 years.

  • OK, the link below is to TripAdvisor_s Restaurant Guide page for New York City, so, use the _Filter Restaurants By_ pull-down menu at the top to select the ethnicity of the cuisine you_re looking for, and then it will list dozens, sometimes hundreds, of NY restaurants that match your search, and then you won_t have to keep asking individual questions here about each of the individual types of cuisine you_re looking for.

  • Now taking suggestions for a great vacation destination within the US?|198288

It_s been a long time since my last REAL vacation, and my husband is soon returning from Afghanistan, and I_m thinking about surprising him with a vacation (we haven_t had much of a honeymoon). We_re not beach people; we like beautiful scenery; we enjoy music history; we_re adventurous and active people who like amusements and other thrill-seeking activities. All suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help.

  • To combine thrill seeking _ great scenery consider renting a All Terrain Vehicle) four wheeler) A side by side ATV like the Yamaha Rhino would be a blast. There are many of these rental outlets all across the west. Depending on what kind of scenic areas you enjoy _ season you are visiting would help you to decide where to go. One suggestion is:
South-Central Utah_s 275-mile long Paiute ATV Trail is a loop trail with no beginning and no end! It passes through several towns and has side trails leading to others. Dirt Wheels magazine rated the Paiute ATV Trail as one of the best 15 trails in the country. It has been rated as one of the top 5 trails in the country by ATV Illustrated magazine. Many riders consider the Paiute Trial to be the top US trail. This is a good ride in the early spring or fall.

  • For music history, the first thing that comes to mind is Nashville, TN, as well as Elvis_ home Graceland, also in Tn

  • I would go to Mackinaw Island, MI. If it were my choice. They have a website, I am not sure what it is but just put Mackinaw Island, MI in your search engine. There are no cars allowed on the island so it is nice island you can just walk around at your own pace. Hope this helps.

  • My favorite has always been Mesa Verde, Colorado. It_s a national park. Stay in the Far View Lodge. The lodge is on top of the mountain at 8000 feet and at night you can see for 200 miles in every direction.

If you get tired of dead indians in the park, Arches monument and Zion canyon are close by, as is four corners.

  • Maybe Seattle? It_s beautiful over there with greenery all over. Also, the city center is really nice, lots of stuff to do, shop, visit museums, sightsee. I think there is a Music Experience museum over there.

You could also go snowboarding if you plan to go during snow season. Mt. Rainier is pretty close to there so I_m sure there are a lot of activities, such as hiking or mountain biking.

It_s also only a three-hour drive to Vancouver, so you could pop on over there for a day or two to see the city.

  • If you like the outdoors, Cooperstown New York. It_s a small _baseball_ town, but you truly get an _outdoorsy_ feeling.

  • San fransisco thru the Redwoods to Astoria Oregon, finish with Portland Oregon.

  • NOrth Shore of Minnesota - quite the _artsy_ community in Grand Marais and you could swing over to Hibbing to soak in some Bob Dylan.

  • Eureka Springs, Arkansas sounds exactly like what you want.

  • niagra falls may be touristy, but if you haven_t been there, it really is amazing and awe-inspiring. i highly recommend visiting. also, national parks like those in california and washington are beautiful. hike up the waterfall mt. vernal in california_s yosemite.
  • How old do you have to be to go clubbing in Chicago?|188338

How old do you have to be to go clubbing in Chicago?

And what are some good clubs downtown?

  • Most clubs in and around Downtown are 21+, same as the legal drinking age in Illinois. However, there are a few that allow 18+ in on some nights of the week. Typically if your in the 18-20 yr old bracket you will be charged more of an admission fee (due to 21+_ers buying alcohol, and you not!). Club admission usually starts at $10 before midnight and $20 after. Most joints are open until 5am on Fridays and Saturdays, but some do close at 3am.

Whereas your best bet is to go to www.metromix.com, two of my DT fav_s are Excalibur (632 N. Dearborn St.) and Soundbar (226 W. Ontario St.). Both are located in the River North area of Downtown and both have dress codes (collared shirts, no sneakers, no shorts, no hats).

We Chicagoans are a big fan of the drink, so there pubs, bars, and clubs all over the city. We also have a great transportation system composing of elevated trains, 24 hour subways, and reliable buses that span the entire city and well into the massive suburbs. A few great party neighborhoods are Wrigleyville (Red Line Addison stop), Wicker Park/Bucktown (Blue Line Damen stop), Rush Street (Red Line Division stop), and Little Italy (Pink Line Polk stop). Also check out Logan Square, Ukrainian Village, Lakeview, Warehouse District, Beverly, and Greektown. You_ll not only find great bars and clubs in the areas, but some of the greatest restaurants in the country

Chicago may not be the largest city, but we have the most people

  • The Warehouse in Melrose Park
    The European Club in Cicero
    17+ no alcohol.

  • 18 and older for _okay_ ones, 21 and older for better ones.

  • If you want to go to the good ones then you_ll have to be 21.

  • 18 or 21

  • come are 18

  • That answer will greatly depend on where you live. Usually weekend trips are not too far away since you don_t really have a lot of time to spend traveling.

That being said, you can_t go wrong with Las Vegas. However any major city will fill the bill at least for a short visit.

How do I finda a hotel in orlando with a day rate?|199974

My family and I are going to orlando for vacation... I have 3 little kids and our plane lands at 5 am... I have quite a bit of time to kill before I check into my hotel. I want to know if I can find a hotel near the airport that I can pay a day rate on and check in at about 6 am and stay for a few hours to have the kiddies catch up on some sleep. Any ideas? Or alternatives?

  • Do not take your children to a hotel in Orlando that is a day-rate hotel. They are used for activity that you would not want your children to be exposed to. Call your hotel and tell them the problem, I_m sure you will not be first to have this situation .

  • if it were me, i_d book an extra night at your hotel and make arrangements for a really late check in. most _good_ hotels will work with you. i can_t see you taking your family to a hotel that rents by the hour/ a day rate. they are used for non family reasons (ie your next door neighbor probably will be named _Candy_......

  • How do I navigate New York Transit?|134938

I_m planning a vacation to Manhattan and it looks like I_m staying at the Newark Airport. Is there public transportation to get me from the airport to Manhattan?
How much do taxi_s cost? Help, please!

  • I believe NJ Transit runs buses from Newark Airport to the Port Authority Terminal in NYC.

  • You can take a bus from Newark/Liberty that will take you into Port Authority, or a train into Penn Station. I think a taxi costs about $40 and you have to pay tolls which are about $8. Have a good vacation, but if I were you I try and get somewhere in Manhattan

  • Here is a map of the NJ Transit rail system:

    http://www.njtransit.com/images/railmap0

From Newark/Elizabeth, you can get on the train and head right into Penn Station in Manhattan. From there, get on the subway to anywhere. It_s just about 30 minutes from the airport to Manhattan.

Catch the train at either the Elizabeth or North Elizabeth station, where it_s $5 to NY. From Newark Airport, it_s $14.

  • You should stay in Manhattan if possible.

I suggest you rent a car if you have to stay in Newark.

But you can take public transportation to the PATH train (NJ Transit) that takes you into Manhattan. It_s about a 30 or 40 minute ride.

    Enjoy your vacation!

  • Take New Jersey Trainsit_s Airtrain into Penn Station, New York. Penn Station is in midtown Manhattan and although you can take taxis from there, there are at least 5 different subway lines you can access as well, and there are bus stops conveniently nearby. Taxis are convenient, but can get really expensive especially during busy traffic when you may be stuck caught in traffic (and the meter will be running.) The lowest fare would be around 7 bucks if you_re just going about a mile or mile and half--then you have to add a tip. To go from downtown to uptown (for example from the South Street Seaport to the Metropolitan Museum of Art or Lincoln Center) you may already be shelling out 18 to 20 bucks.

With the subway and bus, you can buy a Metrocard for unlimited rides per day, week or month. In general, each ride is $2.00 regardless of distance.

    Enjoy your stay!

Minnesota is famous for its lakes. You can visit several of them right in the heart of Minneapolis and St. Paul, with beautiful walkways and bikeways. I_m not as current on best restaurants but I believe there are several in the Nicollet Mall downtown pedestrian district of Minneapolis.

Garrison Keillor_s nationwide radio program, a Prairie Home Companion, is broadcast live each Saturday night from the Fitzgerald Theatre in downtown St. Paul. You can probably order tickets in advance. It can be a great _ unique Minnesota experience.

  • A lot of Minnesotan_s like to fish and hunt. They fish in the summer, and in the winter on the ice. They like to ride thier bikes, there are lots of great state trails, one is SE Minnesota, by Laneboro, that is a great one. A lot like to Ski and ice skate in the winter. They like to shop. Many like going to theater. In the winter they like to ride snowmobiles, they have a lot of designated trails thoughout the state. Or there are tons of great state parks. Duluth area is nice too, if you want to go see the north shore!

  • If you_re looking for a bunch of great restaurants (both franchised and not) you should check out Grand Ave. in St. Paul. You_ll find (almost) anything your palate desires.

  • It really depends on the type of activities you want to do. Minneapolis/ Bloomington has the Mall of America and IKEA for shopping. There are many museums/historic sites in the Minneapolis/ St. Paul areas. There are plenty of lakes and parks for outside activites all over Minnesota. Southeast Minnesota has the Mississippi River and beautiful bluff country. Some towns to visit there would be Winona, Wabasha, Kellogg, or Lanesboro.
Try www.exploreminnesota.com for things to do, places to stay, etc.

  • MN is a beautiful state. many lakes, parks, the southern part is more populated . here is a link to the travel bureau up there

What are black out periods in a theme park?|197883

In my last question I asked about the Universal Studios Season Pass and what it has to offer. In an answer someone referred to a black out period when explaining the signifigance of a season/_Power Pass_. If someone could explain a black out period that would be amazing!

  • Black out periods are times when you cannot use your pass to gain admission to the parks. For example, an annual pass is good all year, 365 days per year. The theme parks usually will _black out_ seasonal passes at times like Spring Break, Summer, and Christmas/New Years.

Here is a link to a calendar with the dates for 2009 when you cannot use a power pass.

    http://www.universalorlando.com/annualpa

  • A blackout period is a chunk of days (often holidays and other times when the attractions will be in high demand) where free/discount passes are not honoured.

  • those are days when the park is closed to the general public.
  • What are some of the hot spots to vist while in Hot Springs,AR?|120976

Tourist atrractions, tattoo shops, places to eat out and palces to stay and have aromantic annivesary.

  • If you enjoy racing and gaming you should visit Oaklawn Park if it is in racing season. You can visit lakes, Hamilton, DeGray, Ouachita and/or Catherine for any number of water sports such as skiing, scuba, boating, parasailing, etc. Visit one of the many natural hot spring day spas. For fine dining try The Venetian Room in the Arlington Hotel and Day Spa. The Arlington Hotel is a very nice choice of accomodations as well. Or you might like Chef Pauls to dine. I_ve been to all these places and highly recommend. In the Venetian Room they even have a violinist that wanders the dining room throughout your meal. ENJOY YOUR ANNIVERSARY!
  • What are some good restaurants and/or sights to see in and around Gulf Shores, Alabama?|122043

Money isn_t an issue but it has to be something fun. And no beach sorry. We want to plan for something in May btw.

I was gonna say haunama bay but you said no beaches...

dave and busters if you have adults attending the party.

im not sure if they still have this place in waikiki across of red lobster but it was a laser tag place that is fun but its really small.

Or if you can find a paint ball place in hawaii that is open for a big group like yours.

Im from hawaii born and raised been on the island for 23 years its sad enough idk where the good places are anymore..lol

I think hiking is fun like makapuu lighthouse, or even diamond head (minus the tourists).

sea life park would be a fun trip.
The zoo and waikiki aquarium is boring..but if you like that than thats cool too.

There is a race track in kunia but im not sure what it is called and it looks small..I havent been there.

and this one is really fun..

    Aquarium
    Polynesian Culture Center Luau
    Bishop Museum
    Iolani Palace

So what are the differences from moving from a very urban east coast city to Helena Montana?|109599

This would be for college.I want to get and idea of the feel, the things there are to do,and the people of Helena.I might visit soon but I just felt like asking ::)

  • I would guess you_re going to Carroll College!
It_s nothing like a bigger city, but not in a bad sort of way. It_s definitely much more beautiful, and seemingly easier to breathe. There isn_t as much to do though if you_re not so much into nature, but luckily there is a ton of shopping in a drive of a little over an hour from here. The people seem to be more down to earth, not to mention the crime rate is lower.
Not sure if I can think of too much more, not even sure how I stumbled upon this..
Anyway, I bet you_ll like it here!
  • Where is a good place to live around Charleston SC?|184109

My husband and I both love Charleston and are looking to move to the area around the end of the year. However, we_re coming from the North East and are not very familiar with the region. We are looking for somewhere with reasonable to cheap house prices, but that is still a decent place to raise a family and close to the city. Any suggestions?

  • I would suggest looking in the James Island area, which is not too far from the City, as there is an Expressway that connects the Island and the City.
  • What is the nicest, most fun hotel pool you have been in?|144191

My family loves pools and we are looking for the best hotel pool in the country. We have been to Great Wolf Lodges. What are some of your favorites?

  • Anywhere in Wisconsin Dells. That place is so much fun.

  • Neverland Pool at the Disneyland Hotel is pretty nice, it measures 5000 square feet and has Peter Pan/Captain Hook themed stuff around it.

  • Don_t listen to WIKI; pissing in the ocean is NOT cool!

  • Warner Hot Springs,......by San Diego out in the country or desert.......it has a 50 by a 100 ft. cool pool plus a 50 by a 100 ft. hot sulfur pool..built around trees and theirs little cabins everywhere........I_m telling ya you_d love it

i_m sure you could check it out on the internet

  • The hotel pools at the walt disney world resorts are awesome.. BUT the rooms are really small.

  • Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It had a wave pool and its in a Shopping mall.......cool stuff!!!

  • I once stayed in this hotel in Waikiki.

Anyway they had this great hotel pool that they called the PACIFIC OCEAN.

And the great thing about it was they couldn_t care less if you pissed in it.

NOTE: This answer was posted BEFORE the earthquake.
  • Where can you bend the rules in las vegas?|134053

Me and a group of friends are planning a spring break trip to las vegas and we are 18 and 19 but most clubs you have to be 21 is there any clubs that might bend the rules a little?

  • Vegas is not a spring break town. You won_t even know it_s spring break here except for the jail being full of under 21_s trying to do what you want to do. This is a 21 and over town and they enforce it to the extremes. That_s why spring break is usually in Mexico now a days .. 18 and over.

  • Not going to happen without dropping some serious money. Every major club in town is inside a casino (most clubs are not owned by the casinos). If the clubs get caught with minors inside it can endanger the casinos gaming license. If the clubs get caught, the casinos will revoke their privilege to operate inside the casino. There_s NO upside on letting minors in.

If you do find the right doorman to bribe it can happen, but it will take more than you_re probably willing to spend. I_ve seen people drop $2,000/person just to get into a club on a busy night.

You should be going to Cancun, Mazatlan or Jamaica.. When we were 18-20 we always traveled abroad for spring break so we could drink without issue. That would be the better option.

  • You might want to go somewhere else. Las Vegas is a rather conservative city and neither the residents nor the police department will tolerate much of the nonsense that _spring breakers_ are famous for.

No club or casino will _break the rules_ for a bunch of silly college kids. The licenses (liqueur _ gaming) they have are too precious and costly to risk loosing them. You will probably find Las Vegas is not a friendly city for people on spring break.

  • Hmmm... I dunno for sure what specific places but Im sure you could find some places that wouldnt card you. I_m 26 and I look younger and where I live in MN I get carded probably 95% of the time. But I was in Vegas 3 weeks ago and I didnt get carded even ONCE the entire 4 days we were there. And believe me, I drank at dozens _ dozens of places.
I also overheard this kid on a shuttle. He was saying that the day before was his 21st birthday and he didnt get carded all day and had finally gotten carded for the first time the next day.
Do you guys look young? If you look close enough to 21 and dont act immature I bet you could find plenty of places that wouldnt even bat an eyelash at you.
Vegas is probably the one place you could get away with this. Becuase nobody cares at all. You can even drink in the streets.

    have fun and good luck

  • If you find the right place, you can probably bribe someone to let you in. My mom went to Vegas when she was 13, and was gambling in the Belagio. (Then again she was 5_8 and had the body and face of a 24 year old) I guess in Vegas you just have to get lucky, do anything fun. (underage)

But seriously dude, go to Mexico. The police take bribes, they dont card you and it_s ussualy just like any other american city. ( Except they speak Spanish.)

  • Vegas has gotten very strict. When I was your age, about 12 years ago, I remember getting anway with drinking and gambling in VEgas on several occasions. At some point since they have really cracked down. I am 30 and still get carded sometimes in Vegas.

It really does depend where you go. The ideal place for you would be an crowded, off-strip casino or bar. A place where the average age is older, but crowded enough for you to blend in and not-stick out as being underage.

  • yes it is possible. and im talking from personal experience. I went last year on memorial weekend. But it has to do a lot with your appearance and who you_re with. I went with a big group of girls approximately 10 girls. We are all good looking wearing short dresses. Of course I know vegas has a bunch of hott girls and the lines are always long so the bouncers can be picky. so it has to do with luck too. the id looked nothing like me. I went again in august. went to three clubs. this time the id looked a little more like me but not that much. However i did get rejected at one club. luckily they did not take the id away. the bouncer kept lookin at the id and then me he put the id in his pocket, so then i said _what_s going on,_ he told me someone else had to take a second look at it. so we went over to someone else and he looked at it then me and asked me what year i graduated high school. i got nervous and said the actually year i graduated so then he laughed and gave me back the id. I was scared but glad he gave me back the id.

besides girls, i dated a guy that was 19 and been to vegas too. the id looked like him and he got into places too. so too sum it all up, it is not IMPOSSIBLE. it can happen, but you just have to make sure:

-It is NOT a fake id
-The id looks a lot like you
-Be confident and make some eye contact with the bouncer , not too much but enough to know ur not avoiding eye contact with him because ur nervous
-Dress sexy, if ur a guy be with a bunch of HOTT girls
-Avoid clubs that have too much lighting near the entrance for example
    -Dont gamble too risky

if all fails just buy alocohol and walk down the strip

and ive never been inside margaritaville but it looks kool, people hanging out outside and inside maybe theyre not that strict

  • Nope - they absolutely will not bend the rules, particularly at the major clubs on the strip. I don_t know - maybe you can find a dive bar somewhere else in town, but none of the hot places will let you in. It_s not worth the risk of losing their license.

  • Not intentionally. Liquor and the clubs are big business here in Vegas, and nobody_s going to purposely put a lot of scratch on the line to entertain a couple of underage kids. Especially not in today_s economy.

  • Vegas is not the place for you to go, the casinos and club inVegas will not lose their licences and they dont need to risk they have enough traffic to serve their purposes you will not get served in Las Vegas

  • My question is why would you chose to go to Vegas? Go to Mexico where you CAN drink, and go to vegas when you_re old enough to really appriciate it.

  • Of course not they could be fined and or shut down. The minute you walk in the casino the overhead cameras would put security on alert to go check your IDs.
  • How do I get to Key Largo Florida?|118885

What is the closest major airport to Key Largo, Florida?

And how do I get from there to Key Largo?

Do I need to rent a car or do they have some kind of shuttle service for tourists?

I_m planning to go there in September to do some diving. And I don_t like to drive.

  • Key Largo is in the Upper Keys so the closest airport to it is Miami International Airport. Key Largo is about 1 hour 20 minutes (60 miles) away from Miami Airport.

As for transportation since you don_t like driving then you can take the Keys Shuttle down to Key Largo for a price of $60 bucks oneway.

    http://keysshuttle.com/

  • i DONT KNOW, BUT if I was you, I_d look on a map.

when you do an internet search for the town, it should have shuttles listed....

  • Greyhound has two buses a day to KL: 12;30 PM _ about 7:00 pm for about $20.00. The Miami Greyhound station is right near the airport, but you_ll need a cab to get there.
  • What are good places to visit on my road trip from NY to TX?|118195

My three friends and I are planning a road trip from Upstate New York to Austin, Texas but we_re not sure where we should stop on the way. Does anyone know any exciting sites or really cool or obscure places to visit along the way? We are all 21 and looking to see some really cool things along the way.

  • Well, you_re covering half of the country, so you_ll find plenty of cool and obscure things and dozens of them. If you want my humble advice for just one place, hit New Orleans. It_s not really out of your way, and you_ll find plenty of interesting stuff there.

  • Stop by up north in Ohio (even though it is probably out of your way) and go to Cleveland. It may sound like a desolate city, but it is actually cool. Check out the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, or the really neat Science Center. Also, Cleveland has a lot of cool, modern restaurants and bars. Have fun! :)

What else can we do beside gamble and shop in Las Vegas?|107509

My girlfriend and I are going to Las Vegas next weekend. It isn_t our first time going. Usually when we go, she shops and I gamble. But we_ve both decided that this trip we would just both chill. Aside from gambling and shopping, what else can we do in Vegas?

  • See shows like cirque Mystere, Shark Reef, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, Sigfried Roy Secret Garden, Las Vegas Springs Preserve, Red Rock Canyon with loop and visitor center, Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, Ethel M Chocolate Factory and cactus garden, Bonnie Springs Ranch, Tounament of Kings dinner show (only dinner show), and so much more. Check out local TV Channel 8 web site www.lasvegasnow.com

  • Well there is something for everyone to do here. Relaxing by the pool will be a very popular thing next weekend as the temperatures soar well into the 100_s. There are tours galore here. Believe it or not a lot of natural wonders to behold. A show for every taste can be had. Just walking the strip to see that all it has is a great pastime of many visitors. How about a club to release some of your energy. As you can imagine, there are lots of things to see and do.

  • Try going to a spa for a day
Visit local pools hard rock hotel, mgm, and ceasers palalce allows you to use their pools for a fee (most are $20). Hardrock also has rehab pool party on sundays and their is tao beach also on sundays. Tons of clubs and bars of all types, Im sure you can find one to suit both of your tastes. Of course all of the free attractions such as bellagio fountains, sirens at ti, freemont experience downtown, volcano at mirage, take a gondola ride at vinetian($16 each), Walk through all of the amazing hotels and see what they have to offer. Watch a show, whether its a cirque show, la reve, or if you are looking for something more intimit check out peepshow, fantasy, or bite . There are tons of good sites for vegas such as vegas.com, lasvegas.com, myvegasbuddy.com, cheepovegas.com, smartervegas.com, and spyonvegas.com, just to name a few. Do your research on these websites and others like it to see what interests you, because only you know exactly what you enjoy. You can also read reviews on shows, tours, and just about anything that is possible to do in vegas and maybe that will help you narrow it down. Whatever you decide to do Im sure you will have a blast. Vegas has something for everybody, you just have to find your something.

  • Oh, wow - so many things you could do. It would take too long to list it all here, so try this website:
    http://www.findlasvegaseventsbuytickets.

The website lists just about every Las Vegas venue: Las Vegas concerts, Las Vegas sports, Las Vegas theater ... I_ll stop saying _Las Vegas_ now. You can view the schedule of events and buy tickets there, as well. Have fun!

  • You will never be bored in Las Vegas. Not only is it affordable, and very luxurious but full of activities. You don_t have to gamble or have a lot of money to have a great time.
Here is a list of things to do, including free attractions.

    http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/things-to

  • Take the main freeway north for one hour and go to The Valley of Fire! Its a quick drive and a really awesome place to sight see, Ive been there three times and still want to go back. Its all red rock like sedona or utal. Really cool. Its only open during the day, so plan accordinly. Just bring a cooler with water and some sandwhiches and your all set! Its awesome, I wish I had my pics online to show you. Heres some info from wikipedia though. The hoover dam is pretty cool too. You could do both in day if you like driving! They are in opposite directions though.

  • During the day:
    Tours (Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam)
Pool clubs/parties (Bare, Wet Republic, Venus, TAO Beach)
Exhibits (Bodies, Titanic, Atomic Testing Museum, Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art, Shark Reef)
    Spa/Salon treatments
    Golf

    During the night:
    Dining
    Shows
    Nightclubs
    Concerts

  • Pick a nice late afternoon and drive up to redrock canyon.

  • Movies, Zoo, Ice Skating at this Station casino across from Rancho Fiesta. Maybe a mile up the road.

  • Go see a show. There are plenty to chose from.
  • What is the best Hotel to stay in Honolulu?|131962

I am going on a Hawaiian cruise in November for my honeymoon, we want to have a day before and a day after to enjoy Hawaii. What is the best Hotel? Something near the port and airport if that is possible!

  • I always enjoy the Honolulu Prince. All oceanfront rooms at reasonable prices.

  • The Ala Moana Hotel.

The airport and the port is not within walking distance. The Ala Moana Hotel is the closest decent Hotel nearest the port. The rest are in Wakiki and they are all pretty darn good if you go 3 stars and up. Besides, it doesn_t really matter how good the hotel is, you won_t be staying in it long. Get out and have fun!!!

  • First of all, I would not recommend the Ilikai. I just recently got back from a trip to Hawaii, and this place looked like a total dump. The Outrigger Reef on the beach is beautiful. Wonderful staff, beautiful rooms, just an over all great place. I would definently recommend it.

  • ohh definitely the Ko`olina resort. it is absolutely beautiful and has so many things to do there. the Ko`olina lagoons are wonderful. the water is clear, warm and there are many colorful fish.

  • Ililkai where the Hawaii 5-0 team filmed.
  • Is San Diego a good city to travel to for a solo vacation?|115623

I_m planning on taking a vacation alone soon, and was wondering if I would enjoy San Diego since I will be alone. I_m a 32 y/o single female, not really a social butterfly, but I do like shopping, museums, beaches, or just cruising around to sight see.

  • i would go a little north to laguna beach
but yeah there are great malls in san diego.

fashion valley in in mission valley or UTC in la jolla

    there are great beaches too!

and there are a couple museums in balboa park. its great an independant person

there is a harbor right by the airport

there are a lot of piers too!!!

youll love it here in san diego!!!

  • start at La Jolla Shores and end up at South Mission Beach. It_s a great route to take. here are some things i_ve done for free in San Diego:

  • yes it_s really great for everyone. There is so much to do. You should go to the zoo and to the museums in Balboa Park and also there_s a great seafood pub right by the airport. Also, you c

  • San Diego has one of the highest populations of single ppl, so i would guess yes but i_ve never been there

  • I have lived in SD 37 Yrs, it has it_s pros and cons,

Pros: everything you mentioned is pretty much the main stuff to do in SD, mall, beaches, very few museums, some sight seeing, lots of single people.

Cons: if you are into warm weather wait till late August , unless you are ok with 4th of july wearing a light sweater at the beach and muggy overcast, I remember going outside to see the fireworks and my nose was running, it was cold and I really was not able to see them even though I was in a rooftop in downtown because of all the overcast; san diego_s summer is actually in the fall and early winter believe it or not, these last couple of years, thats the way it has been, people buying dry christmas trees in 90 degree weather wearing winter clothing because it_s fashionably correct regardless of the temp; Last year I went on a cruise to cozumel Mexico, left SD the last days of August and summer weather had not fully kicked in yet in SD, I returned to SD to find that summer weather was still a week away, by the time my dauhter was back in school for 2 weeks it was finally about 85 degrees, problem is that_s when everyone goes back to work and spends most of the day in air conditioned offices.

Beaches are descent, prettiest beaches- Coronado, La Jolla, Del Mar, fun beaches- PB, Mission, OB, only thing is water is normally chilly all year not warm; Yes there are single people but they are extremely picky and some are cocky, but there is also lots of tourism and foreign men seem to be frendlier, California men look for perfection most of the time, it_s expensive, not very big on cultural stuff, I mean you can find it, problem is you have too look for it, unlike other cities where you feel the artsie cultural atmosphere the minute you get there.

They are really big on getting rid of vintage places and architecture and just going overboard with new construction, so It does have kind of a generic feel to it, oh and dress nice, it_s all about what you wear here. Weather changes day to day.

What is the best tour of the grand canyon?|183704

I am staying in Las Vegas in a few weeks and want to plan a day trip to the grand canyon. I was wondering what all inclusive tour someone has taken and could reccomend.

  • Hi, guy. I recommend you to book tours4fun_s Grand Canyon West Rim Tour. Because i just came back from Grand Canyon. The trip is so marvelous!
    http://www.tours4fun.com/grand-canyon-west-rim-tour.html

Hoover Dam is enormous. Much bigger than you_ll ever imagine until you see it. It was worth to stand on the glass bridge 4000 feet above the floor of the canyon. The west rim is beautiful and raw. The Indians who the land belongs to are very friendly.

  • What are good places right outside or Raleigh,NC with views of the skyline to live?|193337

Looking for a nice safe neighborhood outside of downtown Raleigh, which is safe, and has a nice view of the growing skyline, any help we be great.

  • In Raleigh, to get a good view of the skyline you_d basically need a neighborhood just adjacent to downtown. (Mostly due to hills and such.)
Boylan Heights, Brooklyn/Glenwood, Cameron Park, Caraleigh, Oakwood, Mordecai, and Pilot Mills would probably be where to start. But if there_s alot of trees in the way, then the view would be pretty blocked.

  • Raleigh_s skyline is growing. A developer has just started on building what will be Raleigh_s tallest building. It will be next to Crabtree Valley Mall and it will be 45 stories tall. The tallest in downtown might be the BB_T building at 32 stories maybe. I do not know of a neighborhood with what you are looking for, but maybe something north along Six Forks Road or Wake Forest road or Falls of the Neuse Road. If you have seen the pictures of downtown Raleigh that the City of Raleigh uses, that it looking at downtown from the town of Garner, southeast of Raleigh.

  • Unless something has changed in the last couple of years, Raleigh doesn_t have a skyline.
  • What are the chances of finding employment at Las Vegas?|128700

My cousin his wife 4 kids move to las vegas with no jobs (hoping to find a job). My cousin have enough savings to last them for a few months and have put a deposit on an apartment before their move. He has applied for metro police recruit for September and she is looking to break into the entertainment industry. I am worried for them. Do anyone have any advice for them?

  • It is tough times here in Vegas. The only jobs open are low paying ones. Even those are having lines formed to apply. The Metro has a hiring freeze so that doesn_t sound good. He could apply for security for now but even those do not pay much, even for armed security. To break into the entertainment industry is even harder than getting into the police force with a hiring freeze. Sorry, just telling it the way it is.

  • I have 20 years in IT and I_m former military. I am currently working as a security guard because the employment situation here is ridiculously dry. My kids live here with my ex-wife or I_d be off to anywhere cheaper.

Oh yeah, I was also a broadcaster and karaoke host, but getting into the entertainment business without a solid connection is not worth it. You can_t even get hired in a casino without knowing somebody.

Unemployment here is about 10% for last 2 months, usually at 4%. My advice - STAY PUT and save your money until the credit crisis is over.

  • The chances of finding a job are very, very pool. Metro applications are not always accepted and then the person has to go thru the weeks and weeks of schooling before they graduated and become an officer. And as far as the entertainment industry, all have been hit by the recession. But the chances before the recession and now are slim to nothing. Hundreds try for one job and few even become background.

Moving to Vegas with no jobs and kids, even with savings, could mean they wind up homeless. My advice, stay where you are until the cousin is accepted by Metro.

BTW tell him to check into Nevada Highway Patrol
  • How old do you have to be for a driving permit in Nevada?|102623

I_m 15 and soon getting a car but my school is very far i wanted to know if i could get a permit?

  • I believe 15 is the standard permit age in every state, though as already said, a permit means you must have a person with a license with you when you drive.

  • Visit the website below and click on Nevada.

It will tell you everything you need to know about driving permits in Nevada.

  • even with a permit you will still need a licensed driver in the car with you

What are the names of some nice hotels on the Jersey shore?|170223

Something on or near the beach would be great. And if it has a spa too, all the better. I am looking for something a little upscale. Maybe a 4 star resort. Thanks.

  • To be honest with you there are only a few 4 star hotels on the Jersey Shore. I know one of them is a Marriott, it is called the Seaview Resort _ Spa in Galloway, NJ. The other hotels that I know of are in Atlantic City. The Borgata, Harrah_s Resort and Casino and Caesars are all very nice. Good luck.

  • Here ia a list of 101 things to do in Houston and surrounding areas. Many I bet you have not heard of.

  • Where is the best place to stop and eat between Miami and Orlando?|104121

Driving from Miami to Orlando, wondering if theres anything I should check out to break up the trip?

  • Between Orlando and Miami you will most likely be on the Turnpike. Though in the past, the turnpike has been packed with just little fast food restaurants. But, recently I have seen more and more better quality food restaurants pop up. Now along the turnpike there are stops for Cheeburger-Cheeburger, Earl of Sandwich, and more!! These are all decent sit down restaurants that have been made into quick service options. I would try stops with either of those two! Delicious :)

  • You will probably be traveling on the Florida Turnpike so your options will be limited to the food court style restaurants they offer at the rest areas.

  • Mr. Chow in Miami
    Cheesecake factory in Orlando.
  • How crowded is Oak Island NC during week of 4th July?|114340

We are planning a trip for week of July 4th , 2008. I went to North Myrtle Beach several years ago during the week of 4th and swore I would stay home if week of 4th was the only week I could go to beach. Things have changed and my hubby has job that closes only for that week during summer.
Should we stay home or are the North Carolina beaches not as crazy crowded as South Carolina beaches?

  • North Carolina beaches are no where near as crazy as Myrtle Beach. But, there is a reason for that. North Carolina beaches don_t offer what Myrtle Beach does. We (North Carolinians) have very few minuture golf corses, malls, arcades, ect........ compared to Myrtle Beach. So, if you are just looking for a beach, than I recommend the Crystal Coast (Morehead City) or Wilmington beach area. The outer banks do become somewhat crowded during holidays. Good luck with what ever you choose. Hope this helped.

Personaly, I_d go with Oak Island. It is very beautiful. Shouldn_t be that crowded, and is quiet.

  • Hi! I hope you had a great vaction. Where did you end up going? We vacationed at Oak Island in 2007 and we loved it and will be going back this year.

  • Whats better a trip to Florida to see a Space Shuttle Launch and a visit to Disneyworld?|195714

Or a trip to Maine to go sea kayaking ,fishing and a hiking trip to the mountains to hike and birdwatching.

  • The shuttle has only a few more launches before the program ends, so I would see the Space Shuttle launch. Now depending upon the length of your vacation ... close to Cape Canaveral is the Merritt Island Bird Sanctuary where you can see all kinds of birds. We have surfing, wind surfing . kayaking, fishing and you can hike anywhere you want. You can also visit Disney World if you can tear yourself away from the nature/outdoors stuff. The only thing we do not have is mountains.

  • Disney World is passive where the experience is supplied but the other vacation requires effort to obtain an experience. The vacation in Maine requires skill like fishing.

Disney planners are just selecting the order of experience that is limited to what is offered. It is like the Monty Python skit where the menu is mostly spam.

At Disney I rarely see people play tennis because that requires skill and effort.Miniature golf is popular because skill and effort is kept to a bare minimum.

Disney is really rationing not excess.Walt wanted people back to work after their day off.The rides circle back to where they begin to let you know the fun is over.

  • That totally depends on what your interests are. What would you rather do? For me, I would choose Disney because I love it and because I_m not adept at hiking and don_t really enjoy fishing, but many people feel differently than I do.

Seeing a shuttle launch is an awesome thing, but just remember that sometimes launches are scrubbed at the last minute, so if you choose Florida just for the shuttle be prepared to have your plans changed while you are here.

  • You are comparing apples to oranges here. One is all about being in nature...the other is not. Also, DisneyLAND is in California...DisneyWORLD is in Orlando. (smile) Space shuttles are nice, but, they are over in a matter of minutes AND there is no guarantee it will launch on time. One shuttle was just put off due to weather. It rains almost every day in Florida during the summer. Usually between 3 _ 5pm. So, pack your rain gear in your vehicle. Either vacation sounds like fun. You are fortunate you are in a position to have a vacation this year.

  • A kayaking trip is the best and here_s why I think so, and I_ve done both:

Disneyworld while fun is extremely commercialized, its a little sickening in that respect. Also, it doesn_t feel like a good vacation because too many people and its hurry hurry and you do come home exhausted from it, like visual overload. Also, its not exactly all its cracked up to be, I mean its cool, but....

Kayaking is relaxing reconnects you with nature and there_s nothing like a relaxing vacation. Maybe I_m being partial here but I Love kayaking its unlike anything else. Also, I really dislike schedules and vacations that are to planned out don_t feel right to me. In Disney your vacation is pretty scheduled even though we didn_t plan what order we_d hit the parks or anything, and that felt a little restrictive to me. So while I had fun in Orlando, its not something I will repeat anytime soon, believe me.

That being said I_d like to ask people not to hate me for not being a devoted Disney fan, I_m just stating my perspective on things and the fact that Disney while enjoyable for all isn_t the ultimate vacation for all.

  • If you have the opportunity to see a space shuttle launch I would probably take it and go to Disney World as well. Maine will always have the sea and fish and trails and mountains, but shuttle launches don_t happen every day...

  • really you can_t determine which one is more fun?!
um WATCHING A SHUTTLE LAUNCH AND GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!!!

  • I would go for the more adventerous trip..but only if there_s really nice hotel around there
disneyworld and space shuttle launch sounds boring....it sounds like something you would go during school trip
  • Best places to visit and eat in NY with a limit budget?|193624

I am going to NY city this weekend. I am planning to do some sightseeings. So I want to know if someone can point me to the right place to eat and visit. I am looking for delicious food with cheap price. Pizza restaurants for example? Thank you so much. I will be there for 10 days, so the more suggestion the better.

  • Go to _Don Giovanni_ restaurant on 44 street between 9 _10 ave, (close to Port Authority). Amazing Italian food you would not even find in expensive resataurants for cheap price.
And do not forget to visit Century 21 department store for best shopping prices.

  • There are Europa and Pax eateries all over the city. Good food, lots of choices and affordable. It_s comparable to Panera, more cafeteria style.
These are some of my favorite less expensive restaurants in NYC:

    Eatery798 9th Ave53rd StAmerican
    Hog Pit22 9th Ave13th StBBQ
Hogs _ Heifers859 Washingtonat 14th Stcheap, rowdy but fun

    Patsys Pizzeria2287 First Ave117th _ 118th Stpizza
    Virgils Real Barbecue154 W 44th StBroadway _ 6th AveBBQ

If you like hot dogs, check out Gray_s Papaya. (DO not be fooled by imposters like Papaya Dog or Mike_s Papaya). You can get a smoothie and 2 dogs for under $3 at Grays. And they_re the best hot dogs in the world!

    Have a great trip!

  • If there is only one thing you can do then take the RIDE THE BEAST tour with Mad dog. W 42nd St. _ 12th ave.

Was there 2 days ago and it_s the most fun I had in the Big Apple.

Lots of places to eat real good foods, but NEVER eat in Time Square. It_s over priced and too commercial. We found lots of good restos in the 44th st _ 9th ave area. Try Chimpotle for example.

The Ferry ride from New york to Staten Island is free and you get to see the statue of liberty.

Take the subway, no taxi because you will just pay to sit in traffic.

    Visit Central Park

    Have fun!

  • Go to a hot dog cart in Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village and sit and enjoy the budding entertainment.

  • My friend, there are millions of place in New York City to eat. However, depending on you budget, may I suggest the link below.

What local events are planned in February 2009 in the Greater Seattle area that would interest visitors?|164284

We have guests coming from Australia and we would like to show them local sights other than the usual Space Needle, Pike Place Market, the Ballard Locks, museums, Mt. Rainier, or Snoqualimie Falls. Looking for local events in western Washington State during the first part of February.

  • I think (this changes so I_m not sure check your calendar), the International District celebrates Chinese New Year and typically have festiviites going on down there. You can go for dim sum at House of Hong and walk around the International District visiting Uwajimaya.
I wonder if there is snow in Australia. You could take them innertubing at Snoqualmie - that is really fun!
  • What are some of the safest neighborhoods/areas in New Orleans?|190828

I_m going to be living in New Orleans over this summer and I_m looking for housing. What areas are safest and should consider moving to?

  • there is no really safest area cause all of them have there good and bad parts, uptown has great areas but bad ones too, same with downtown, mid city, the east. it all depends on what u will be doing this summer.

  • haha forget it honey bunny. Move to the north shore. Property is less expensive, generally nice, safer..and the commute...well, everyone commutes now a days.

    welcome!

  • New Orleans is very patchy, with a mix of good and bad all over town. However, the areas close to downtown (the Quarter, Esplanade, the warehouse district, etc.) are mostly safe. So is the university district in Uptown. In the areas of the city that are still recovering from the flood, things are VERY mixed. You_ll want to ask people who are already there for specific information. The close-in suburbs are also a mix but are generally safer than the city proper. One generally safe suburb that_s not too far away is Slidell, just across the I-10 twin spans on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAH dont think theres such a thing

  • UpT!!St.Charles Ave,in that area! The problem isn_t as much safety as money, everywhere you go will be crime! But uptown, and kenner are very nice places. There are subarbs in kenner. These two places are close to EVERYTHING!

  • I lived in New Orleans and my street Audubon St. had a low crime rating, but then again 3 police officers lived at various ends of my block and at my house. Metairie is probably one of the safest areas to live, try the suburbs along Veterans Blvd. high area with little flooding. Mandeville and Covington are also good bets, but a lot of people have just moved out there and the trip from Mandeville to New Orleans for work in the morning is worse than the traditional _rush hour._ At 24 miles long the Causeway Bridge takes forever and you would have to leave at around 5 am, and don_t expect to get home in time for 5 pm if you leave at a little after 3 pm. I don_t know exactly what you are looking for and your job situation, so email me with some details and I_ll see if I can help you out some more.

  • well have a good the safest is a cross the lake in mandeville..

  • There are plenty of safe neighborhoods in New Orleans. A lot depends on what you are looking for (urban, suburbs, rural, house, condo, apartment, what?) and how much you want to pay.

Do some research via real estate agencies (you can find them via the internet). I will be happy to provide objective opinions on potential areas - so write to me after you narrow your search. I don_t work in real estate or travel/tourism, so won_t try to sell anything to you.

  • Metairie is NOT the westbank and I live here and it is a safe neighborhood. It all varies however, you have to look at house before you move in. We live in a super nice neighborhood but two roads down they sell crack and all the non-sense. Everywhere here is like that. I guess if you don_t want that then you need to move acroos the lake to slidell, mandiville or even covington!
I saw someone said northshore is less expensive...look hard is all I have to say. Commute?...24 mile bridge. Yuck!

  • mostly on the west bank: metarie, marreo etc.

  • The uptown/Carrollton neighborhood close to Tulane _ Loyola is a generally safe neighborhood and wasn_t hit too hard. Midcity around City Park is safe, although it is still rebuilding from the hurricane.

  • The safest areas would definately be the suburbs, Slidell, Covington, Metairie, West Bank, etc. But If you want to live in the city, you have to look a little harder. Try a nice area Uptown, that is where I would want to live if I wasn_t from here.

  • How long and how much would it cost to travel 418 km and back?|188738

I need to know how much it would cost if the gas was 1.60 per gallon.

  • That depends upon how many km/miles per gallon your
car gets.To figure out this problem you need to divide
836 (km - distance to go there and back) by your average
speed (km/h). Multiply that number by $1.60 and you will
    have your gas cost.
  • How do I move to Los Angeles without having a job there?|101339

I live in Wisconsin and have a job here, but it pays like crap and this state sucks.

  • The recession has hit California harder than most other states. Jobs here are almost nonexistent. For the past 4 years in a row more people are moving OUT of California than IN. Add to that how very expensive it is to live here, so unless you have a guaranteed job offer here, stay in Wisconsin where you have a job. This is not the time to be moving to California. You will be worse off out here than you are in Wisconsin. But if you_re determined to do this, at least keep enough money in the bank to move back to Wisconsin when things don_t go the way you planned .

  • Back in the early 90s, I worked as a production assistant for a small market station in Southern Oregon, and you would_ve been shocked at how many people were leaving L.A. to try to get work in the small market stations around the Northwest because it was difficult if not impossible to break in back in L.A. It_s always very difficult to find work in TV either on camera or off in the L.A. metro area...and it_s even worse now with the high unemployment rate. I also knew people who moved down there cold, and nearly wound up homeless because there are more people than jobs available.

I understand where you_re coming from though. I don_t exactly dislike Oregon, but it was never my dream to live here. I_d like to leave and go live down in Santa Monica, but with the way things are now, I know I_m better off staying here in the Northwest...and with the way things are right now economically, I_d agree with others here that you_re probably better off remaining in Wisconsin for the time being...and maybe just coming to California on a vacation just for a change of scenery.

  • The only difference between California and Wisconsin is that we have more sunshine and it_s more expensive to live here. If you don_t have a job, you_re going to have a hard time affording the average $1200 per month for an apartment.

If you don_t have skills, you_re going to be making minimum wage, competing against all the wannabe actors who come here and try to _make it_ in show business.

If you don_t have the skills or resume, I would throw another log on the fire and stay there.

  • I moved here with no job and was able to get one but that was a few years ago before the economy was so bad. I stayed with friends until I got a job and then looked for a place. I really would recommend applying for jobs first though. It is a very expensive place to live.

  • Its pretty hard to find a job in anywhere you are, I know in Los Angeles it can be pretty hard to find a job, unless if they hire you.

  • Good luck finding a job here!! We_ve been the hardest on the recession!!

As of right now, because of the economy, a job opening in Los Angeles is almost non existent. With the closings of Shoe Pavilion, Linens-N-Things, Mervyns, and Circuit City (soon to be), it_s going to be EVEN MORE difficult.

You will also need about $10,000 to start off.

Decent prices start at $1000 mo. for either an extremely small studio or a 1bd/1ba apartment if you_re lucky. There is no such thing as $350 mo. here. A minimum waged job alone will barely pay the rent. Remember, you need to eat, you need water, gas, electric, personal hygiene, etc.

Bottom Line: Look elsewhere, in 3 months you will probably be back in Wisconsin with no improvement whatsoever.

  • Hitchhike.

  • los angeles is pretty expensive. kinda hard to find a job here as well.

  • it_s nearly impossible! unless you have someone to give you money all the time

How old should kids be to visit and get the most out of Disneyland/world?|101814

We_re thinking of visiting Disneyland next year when our kids will be almost 4 and 6. Is this still too young? Should we wait another year yet?

  • Take them NOW!

I started taking my youngest daughter before she turned 3. She doesn_t remember much of it, but Mrs. Obviousman and I do. We have wonderful memories of our youngest on the rides at Disneyland, and the pictures to prove it. She doesn_t remember back that far (most long term memory doesn_t start until 4 or 5), but she enjoy the memories and you will too.

BTW, this is an excellent time to go. The lines are the shortest of the year.

However, while they are there, they will get a sense of the Disney Magic that they may not remember specifically, but it will stick with then nonetheless.

  • Well I went a lot of times when I was little, I think around your kids age and I don_t remember a thing about it. My mom regretted taking me there at such a young age because I got nothing out of it at all. I only remember one thing that happened at Disneyland out of all three times I went there when I was little. I think the best age to go it around 8 or so. I went again when I was 13 and it was so much fun because I went on so many rides and all. So that was worth the money cause I got something out of it. Also I enjoyed it a lot with a lot more to go down the road for the memory part. . Also the height would be better too so that they can go on certain rides. Also, a tip about Disney World. If you do go there spend a week there. Cause there is no way you can fit it all in for like 3 days or so. We went there and we crammed it all in for 2 days and it was all a rush. We didn_t get to go on many rides cause we wanted to go to all four parks.

    Hope I helped!

  • some kids that age would love to go to disney land and meet the princesses and mickey mouse but i went when i was 8 and everything was way to baby like i guess-take them now-its an experience to never forget especially if your young and into all that stuff-the rides are really fun and the line are very long so if your kids r patient and have a lot of fun with disney-take um-they_ll love it!

  • You should wait until the youngest is between 8-10 because then he/she can go on all the rides. At 4 and 6, they_ll definitely be able to enjoy it but would be bummed if they wanted to go on a ride but couldn_t because they didn_t meet the height requirement.

  • I would wait one more year. My memories are pretty clear after Kindergarten. I_d say 7 would be an ideal age, and your oldest will be that age next year, and your youngest will be in K, so that_s my vote. You can blame me when your kids scream and complain!

  • I think 10 and older. They don_t get tired as easily and can enjoy the parks all day.I just came back from Disneyland and seen so many grouchy toddlers and little ones asleep in their buggy_s.It seems like such a waste to be there sleeping through everything.

  • I think that_s a great age.The 4 yr is ready the 6yr old is definitely there.I notice when the kids are to young the life like characters are to scary. They should have a great time. One day is never enough so save up your money.

  • i was 11, loved it, my bro was 7 he loved it to, im only slightly above average height (currently about 5ft 10) and i was tall enough for most if not all the rides back then

  • i think you should wait because we went when i was that young and i dont even remember now. looking at the pictures i cant even remember it AT ALL lol. i really would wait.

  • I think that they are old enough to go to the disneyland part.
But NOT the california adventures part, which is the best part of all.
    =)

  • Yeah that is fine there are lots of rides they can go on but if they are scared of fast rides don_t take them on Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, or Matterhorn. Those rides are fast.

  • I think 4 and 6 will be great!! They_re old enough to do a whole lot, and they will remember the trip.

I think it would be silly to take kids under age 3 1/2.

    Have fun!

  • You might want to wait till your 4 year old is 6. 4 is still pretty little. I_d say wait until 7 and 9, but it depends on how long you want to wait.

  • 6 is too young, my nephew climbed up the Swiss Family Robinson tree house twice, and was done for the day.

  • my parent took me when i was ten and my sister was eight and i can just remember it
wait a year maybe so they will remember it :-) x

  • wait unti they_re 6 and 8 that way they remember everything

  • I would say wait until the youngest is at least 6 or 7 so he will remember it

  • no dont do it, i forgot everything when i went at 5, wait till they are 8 and 10

  • The first time i visited i was 5 or 6. The ages they are now sound perfect, they will love it! Have a nice time xx

  • 16 to 18 years old.

  • I would recommend 6. That is the age we first went with our daughter and she was able to make it to about 9 PM before being too tired to walk.

  • properly like 10..... or when your over that height requirement

  • they should be at least 7 cause i went when i was 6 and i dont remember a thing!
  • Where in Seattle, WA or nearby can I have a late night bonfire until after midnight?|101333

My friend is visiting from Finland, and as its around mid summers night, we_re planning to have a bonfire tonight. Anywhere we can be all night preferably to have a nice big bonfire? :D

  • I_ve ridden my bike past Alki pretty late at night, 11:30 - midnight and have seen a couple small fires burning away. Doesn_t make it legal of course... :)

  • Not legally, I_m afraid. But you can have them till 11:30pm at Alki beach and Golden Gardens.

  • My first thought was alki too but I_m not sure you can have it there that late
  • Where are any good photography classes that 2 teenagers can take?|185475

My friend and I would like to take photography classes (we are both 13), but we do not know of any good places in the Houston area. Please help! (: Thanks!

  • You are lucky you live in a large city and I_m sure there are a lot of opportunities. Check out some of the local galleries or photo supply shops in your area. A lot of local photographers who display their art are more than happy to, and usually often do, teach on the side for a little extra money. The nice thing about that is they usually have their own studios and you can learn the craft while using their facilities. Check with your school and see if there are any fine arts programs offered off-campus through the school district. Check with your local municipal museum. In the mean time, just keep snapping those photos and use your computer! Everything is digital these days and there are some awesome applications out there. Best of luck to you guys! My son ended up on a photography scholarship to SCAD, and he started later than you guys.
  • Are there any beaches in Washington state?|179263

I am planning to visit Seattle Washington. Are there any beaches there and can anyone recommend me any to visit this summer.

  • The entire western border of the state is coastline. Seattle is inland but is on Puget Sound and Elliott Bay. In Seattle there are beaches along Puget Sound and Lake Washington. The link below shows the parks in the city and the sandy beaches are at Alki, Carkeek, Golden Gardens, Seward, and Magnuson. Discovery Park has a waterfront that you can get down to, but it is more rocky than sandy.

  • Sorry I Live In Wisconsin.

  • the pacific ocean

  • If it_s near the coast then of course there is a beach!

  • There are beaches almost everywhere.

  • Of course...to it_s west.

  • There are, but unfortunately they have hardly any sand and tons of rocks, the water is way to cold to swim in, and besides that it is gross, dead jellyish are constantly popping up on the shore, it is creepy. Washington is a fun state but the beaches suck.

  • Try:

  • Which cross country route would be best in the middle of December? West to East Coast?|176482

We are leaving from WA state to TN the 2nd week of December. We have several routing options, and we_re taking our time b/c we have two small kids. Anyone have suggestions on neat stops to make along the way? We were thinking of driving down the coast to the Redwoods in CA, but are open to suggestions.

  • The safest bet is to go via Los Angeles and Albuquerque. Other routes will take you through mountains, which may be subject to snow delays or chain requirements. However, this will be considerably longer than going via I-90 and I-80.

  • In December I_d take the southern most routes

Where should we go on vacation in March?|198552

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip sometime in March. I was thinking Colorado, but I_m not sure what the weather is like that time of the year. We_re not ready for a European vacation yet and we_ve been all over California and Hawaii. Any suggestions?

  • 1.Sequoia National Park, CA. (Giant Sequoia trees)
    2.Monument Valley _ Southern Utah.
    3.Yellowstone National Park.

  • In go to Hawaii, because its warn.

  • Decatur, Illinois

  • How about Vegas. It won_t be hot them. Also, Myrtle Beach SC is nice that time of year.
  • What are some good bars and clubs in downtown San Diego?|197485

My friends and I are going to the No Doubt Concert in Chula Vista this weekend but we are going to stay in Downtown SD. We_ve never been bar hopping or clubbing there so where are some good places to go?

  • There_s a lot of stuff to do in Downtown, that list is a good starting point for casual bars (jeans/tshirts). They_re all pretty good, but it depends on your scene, how much money you want to spend, and your style. If your looking for more high clubs than the casual ones in the gaslamp ($20+ cover charge, drinks like $8 for vodka cranberry, $12-14 for top shelf) dressy/stylish clothes for women; guys w/ collared shirts, dress shoes, etc) here_s a the main ones, i_ll try to give a bried description:

Stingaree - Probably the most expensive - $20-30 cover, depending, two floors, upper floor is rooftop open-air area w/ multiple bars and private cabanas. usually hip hop/pop. dressy, more stylish, like guys/gals in designer clothes that look like 2nd hand stuff. Sometimes you get wannabe celebs, athletes, etc. but the crowds on the days ive gone are always pretty good looking.

On Broadway - Two floors, 3 rooms. upper room has house/techno most weekends, bottom floor is hip hop. normally $20. Standard gaslamp clothes- girls in short dresses, guys in collared shirts, jeans.

Envy at the Ivy - Hotel bar/club, hiphop/pop music. $20 cover. Young crowd, wanna be ballers. Good looking people though. Local Athletes and hanger-on party here. same old gaslamp dress code.

Kin Lounge - The hyatt just opened their kin lounge, which is supposed to be like a miami/vegas poolside lounge on hte 3rd floor. Haven_t been yet, but hjeard it was cool, but I suspect it_ll be just rich 30-40 year olds w/ expense accounts

Hard Rock - not sure about their bars at night, but on sundays they have a rehab/wet republic type thing where they have a sunday daytime poolside club. its pretty good. everyone is in great shape though.

    Some more places -

Basic - no cover. by the ball park, in a warehouse/minimal concrete setting. Can be packed, a mix of different people- casual in sports jerseys, stylish trendy people, people in collared shirts dress shoes. plays like standard hip-hop/pop/rock. Rowdy.

Fleetwood- no cover. Can be older people mid 30_s later. Stylish yuppy types. Same music as basic. Sorta chill.

    Hotel Bars:

Se lounge at the Se San Diego (next to house of blues). Ultra modern lounge, poolside, pretty cool hotel vibe, loungy-techno music. wannabe euro-types and socials. Cocktail dresses, guys in skinny jeans, mohawks.

JBar. 7th floor outdoor rooftop pool. People in standard dressy clothes. 30 year old yuppies most nights. Pretty nice on a summer night. Not really a party/social mix atmosphere, but good if your in a group. No cover.

Altitude - 14th floor rooftop bar at the marriot by the ballpark. Younger crowd, but wannabe yuppies, so theyre in dress clothes too. Really nice view, great for out of towners. No Cover.

If you like hipsters, trendy people- the only place in downtown san diego is El Dorado. In the outskirts, way out there, in a semi-sketchy area. Sorta hole-in-the-wall type place. Used to be super popular when it first opened up. Think all types of hipsters: like guys in super skinny jeans, skinny ties, looks like they havent showered. Girls in glam/electro clothes. leather jackets. H+M, urban outfitters, ray bans. etc. I think cover_s like $5. They normally spin indi/electro, but depends on the club night.
