  • Why is there a New York city and a New York State?

Why is there an Augusta Maine and and Augusta Georgia?

Why are there two Dakotas? Why do we need a New England when we have an Old England?

Washington is a city in a federal district called the District of Columbia.

Washington is a State that borders British Columbia.

    That_s it.

    Word.

  • Washington State is a state.

Washington D.C. is not a state, it_s the district of columbia. Probably named Washington D.C. because Washington was our first president and D.C. is the home of the president.

  • Washington is a state
and Washington DC is actually a district DC stands for District of Columbia. So its is different and they are in different locations.

  • Washington is the state and Washington DC is the capital of the US

  • why not? it was not originally called washington dc. they changed it. washington is a state and dc is the district of columbia which is its own area.

  • Washington DC is the Capital of the U.S.

Washington is a State or the Person George Washington

  • Washington State is on the west coast, and Washington D.C. is on the east coast.

  • george washington is famous like that
  • Is their money hiding all around the beach of Lake Grapevine Please?|193395

I will go down their either in July or August to find treasures and pick up trash too. I need to see if their any money got buried under the sand. This was man made back in the past. I can_t wait to see what I find or don_t find too.

  • _Their_? Whose? You mean _there_.
  • Where can a fourteen year old living in Los Angeles get a summer job?|105895

I am fourteen years old looking for a summer job, but by this summer I_ll be fifteen. I need to raise money to pay for this trip to Alaska. I_m mainly looking for summer jobs where I can work with kids at camps and maybe teach them soccer. However, most camps only offers positions to volunteers. It would also be really helpful if the camp had a website. I live in Los Angeles by the way, so nothing too far, maybe thirty or forty miles max.

  • You need to be 15 in order to get a work permit. Since you are underage, you will have to try the usual: Babysitting, yard work, and dog walking. You will have to ask around local small businesses to see if they will hire you and pay you under the table. Don_t bother with the big companies, their policies prohibit hiring you.

As for camps, they won_t hire 14 or 15 YO. Insurance requires them to hire 18YO. Under 18, you_ll be a volunteer Jr. Counselor or Counselor-In-Training.

    Good luck!

  • Mow lawns, clean houses or maybe a box boy at a super market.. some private schools have summer programs for their students (pre school ~ 2nd grade. you can always apply for a counselor. My cousin did that when she was about 15 or 16... It didn_t pay well though.

  • I don_t know of any camp that hires 14 yr olds as counselors. Usually you have to be at least 16 years old (some require you to be a college student), before that you can be a junior counselor but you don_t get paid. Some camps will only hire junior counselors who have attended their camp in the past. I know teens who coach, but none get paid, they do it as an internship or community service for their college resumes, so it might be tough to find a paying job, but look!

Are you a really great swimmer, good enough to pass lifeguard testing? If so, you might look into Gerrish Swim _ Tennis Club, 2713 New York Dr, Pasadena, CA 91107 (626) 798-9909 They have hired younger teens (14 _ 15) in the past, usually from the local private schools. It_s a pretty cushy job but the teens complain all the time anyway.

Unfortunately, there aren_t nearly as many summer jobs for teens as there were a few years ago, due to the economy and adults needing to take those jobs. I know because I have a 14 yr old who will be working this summer, and I_ve kept my eyes open the last few years for ideas. If any of your friends work, apply where they work. Look in the local mall and shopping areas to see where kids your age are working. It_s much harder to get a job before you_re 16, because there are stricter rules the employer has to follow. Here is info on work permits, you_ll need one, even though it_s during the summer. If you keep the same job when school starts up again, you have to get a new work permit.

    Good luck!

Edit, something I forgot to include:
Here_s info on the hours you are allowed to work depending on your age. During the summer, at 14 _ 15 years old, you can work 8 hours per day, 40 hours a week maximum, between the hours of 7am and 9pm. Important to know because many employers don_t know off-hand.

  • What is the worst state in the continental US?|115926

I_ve been around the US and want to get a feel from others. I been to quite a few states and actually lived in North Dakota and my vote would go there.

  • You decide for yourself

    Worst Education- Mississippi
    Worst for Business- West Virginia
    Highest Sales Tax-California
    Highest Carbon Emissions- Texas
    Highest Crime Rate- Nevada
    Most Obese State- Mississippi
    Most Crowded State- Rhode Island
Most Corrupt State-Illinois (Please see Washington Post article)
State with the fewest personal freedoms-New York

  • Probably one of the states you_ll typically hear about on _worst states_ lists and the like: Kansas, or New Jersey, or something else.

Granted: there are plenty of people who like those states and are proud of them. Still, there is a reason that places like Kansas and NJ are so reviled. For example, KS isn_t the most happening or most beautiful place in North America. And New Jersey, its problems are too severe for it to be redeemed by the likes of Cape May, Atlantic City, or its proximity to NYC.

  • Alaska. North dakota is bad but alaska is by far the worst place to live in the US by continental im not sure what you mean so alaska might not even be in the answer range.
  • Why do people from Boston rave about it then move to Florida and Texas?|117767

You can talk to a yankee here in Dallas and all they talk about is great New York is or Boston yet you could not pull them back to the North with a steam roller. Go figure.

  • Come to Boston today, you wouldn_t stay either. It was 16 degrees when I woke up this AM.

One thing about New Englanders - they *********. about everything. Just tell them if they don_t like it, go back to Boston. No place is perfect.

  • Because the only reason anyone ever moves to Florida is because they dont know how to handle the cold. It_s sad really.

  • Just like everyone else says...weather...snow, ice, wind and cold!

But, add in very high state taxes, sky high property _ property taxes and high heating bills to the wonderful weather....and now you have the answer why people move south.

When you retire and income is less, you cannot afford to live up there...and the warmer weather is sure a lot easier on the old bones!

  • Probably for the same reason, when southerners move north and then complain about things. But they won_t leave because they_re actually making a decent living. Complaining is part of human nature.
  • Is the Atlanta studio open to visitors? What are the hours and what is the address of the studio?|117848

I am visiting Atlanta and I would like to visit the studio.

  • What studio?
The only place with the name The Atlanta Studio is a professional photography place, like what you would hire to photograph a wedding
