How hard is it to get into Ghostbar in Las Vegas on a Monday night?|152117

My wife and I want to go to Ghostbar on a Monday night. I see on their website that I could sign up to be put on a guestlist and enter without a cover. We don_t want a table or bottle service. How long would we expect to wait in line? When is a good time to arrive to increase our chances of getting in?

  • Monday night is probably the dead-est night of the week for any bar and club. That being said..getting in should be extremely easy with little to no wait. If there is a wait, it_s an artificial line being created to make the bar seem more busy. Good time to arrive..when doors open. maybe shortly after. Since it_s a monday I wouldn_t worry too much..and would just show up whenever..of course within reason.

Here_s a good review on the club from jackcolton.com:

    Have Fun!

  • Monday nights aren_t busy at all. You should be able to get in with no problem.

  • I_m not sure whats cracking at the G Bar on mon night. But general rule wit the clubs is get there before 10pm. You want to have an awesome night on a mon? Hit Jet in the Mirage it is banging on Monday.

  • It will be easy because you will be the only ones there.

  • I would check with the club before you go. Sometimes the ultra clubs are closed on slow nights to meet with the IRS and their legal team to find a way around the charges of stiff arming witless tourists that pay big bucks to door men to go to tiny clubs that serve tiny, high priced drinks
  • What are the people like in San Diego? Is it easy to make friends?|133491

I am a 24 yr old male who is planning to move to San Diego within the next 2 - 4 months. I_ve heard many great things about the weather and the beaches, but what about the people? I_m a very social guy and I definitely want to build a new group of friends out in SD when I move there. I_ve heard murmers that meeting people is easy, but make friends is very difficult. What are your thoughts on that? What areas do people around my age live in? I_m looking for a nice beach, with young people around, and a good bar scene. Wherever that is - I want to live there! hahaha

Let me know what you think about the people in San Diego and what the best way to make new friends would be. How can I easily break into the social scene as an outsider from the Easy Coast? (Originally from North Jersey).

    I appreciate your responses.

  • I say Pacific Beach is the place to move in the San Diego area. It_s not expensive and there are tons and tons of young people, as well as a wonderful beach. My husband and I,when we were dating, lived there and we made a ton of neighborhood friends. A ton! And the best part of Pacific Beach was that all the friends we had there were from other states on the East Coast and they needed friends, too. You_ll meet people at bars and at your apartment building, but probably mostly work, too. I liked two bars named _Lattitudes_ and _Cass Street_; we used to hang out there a lot and met plenty of friends there since the crowd was a bit older than college (your age-around 25) and a lot of people were regulars. We mostly met people in our apartment building and at work, that was fun! Just make sure to get a job first thing and then you can have people to go to happy hour with and everything. Even though we_re now married and moved inland to start our family, we still keep in contact with our old _party_ friends from Pacific Beach. You_ll have a blast. One of our friends came here from New Jersey knowing not a soul and met a ton of friends and girlfriends and says he_ll never leave. As far as your question of _breaking into the scene_ I say, just look casual (t-shirt, thongs and jeans) and make sure you are friendly and outgoing, and not a cheeseball when it comes to girls, then I think you_ll do fine. Good luck!!!

  • San Diego is much different than the east coast or even northern CA. It is much more laid back and friendly. Besides, the weather is great - a bit too cold right now.

Making friends is up to you. If you go out and try, you will make friends. If you expect people are closed, they will be. If you like the bar scene, go for it. I made friends at church but that_s me. Take some classes, that_s a great way to meet people.

I live in N. SD County and I really like it here.

  • San Diego is a very laid back city, so making new friends should not be a problem. The people are for the most part very friendly and sociable.

Great bar scene in the Hillcrest neighborhood. I hang out at a bar called the Flame on the weekends and have a good time whenever I go.

  • If you_re looking for _straight_ friends, I would not recommend Hillcrest specifically...Although it is a nice enough neighborhood to live in. I would recommend Pacific Beach (PB) or Ocean Beach (OB) or Mission Beach. That_s where a LOT if the college kids live and there are tons of bars. I agree that it_s hard to make friends here, but if you_re social, like you say you are, then you_ll do ok. I assume you_ll get a job here....so you_ll meet people through there. Otherwise I would say you could take a class at a Jr College, something easy, like Tennis and meet people through that.
  • What are good places right outside or Raleigh,NC with views of the skyline to live?|122581

Looking for a nice safe neighborhood outside of downtown Raleigh, which is safe, and has a nice view of the growing skyline, any help we be great.

  • In Raleigh, to get a good view of the skyline you_d basically need a neighborhood just adjacent to downtown. (Mostly due to hills and such.)
Boylan Heights, Brooklyn/Glenwood, Cameron Park, Caraleigh, Oakwood, Mordecai, and Pilot Mills would probably be where to start. But if there_s alot of trees in the way, then the view would be pretty blocked.

  • Raleigh_s skyline is growing. A developer has just started on building what will be Raleigh_s tallest building. It will be next to Crabtree Valley Mall and it will be 45 stories tall. The tallest in downtown might be the BB_T building at 32 stories maybe. I do not know of a neighborhood with what you are looking for, but maybe something north along Six Forks Road or Wake Forest road or Falls of the Neuse Road. If you have seen the pictures of downtown Raleigh that the City of Raleigh uses, that it looking at downtown from the town of Garner, southeast of Raleigh.

  • Unless something has changed in the last couple of years, Raleigh doesn_t have a skyline.
  • Are there any good places to eat with kids around the Smithsonian?|145612

We will be visiting soon and would like a place to have lunch. I know some of the museums have restaurants/cafes, but are they really expensive? Are there any good local restaurants nearby that are easy to walk to? Thanks!

  • Yes!

I would avoid Mitsitam, in the American Indian museum - as they have unusual food, which kids often don_t like.

Air and Space has fast food, pizza, McDonald_s and the like.
The Natural History Museum has a better cafeteria, but more expensive. Likewise the National Gallery of Art - the cafeteria between the two buildings.

But by walking anywhere from a half block to a block you can have a great food court, inexpensive food for every taste.

Across Constitution Avenue from the National Museum of American History, that is on the outside of the museum/Mall you can find the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center. You must go through security to get in, but in their basement is a large food court, with food that is not too terribly expensive. This is at about 15th and Constitution.

If you are at the other end of the mall, near the National Gallery, Air and Space, you can go in the Francis Perkins building of the Department of labor. Their rooftop cafeteria is really quite good - although again there is security to get in. The building overlooks the Capitol Building.

If you are at the Capitol, another option, an extra block or so away, is the Union Station train station. It has the best food court in Washington in the basement. Be careful though, because everyone knows it and it gets very crowded with government workers and tour groups at lunch time.

Someone already mentioned the Post Office Pavilion. There are also some restaurants around the Navy Memorial, across Pennsylvania avenue from the National Archives, including one that serves pizza and has a salad bar.

I also second the other suggestion for Chinatown. If walking is an issue there is a $1 per person Connector Bus you can grab from the mall to go those 8 or so blocks.

  • The Atrium Cafe at the National Museum of Natural History offers resonable cafeteria fare for adult and child_s tastes alike. The Air _ Space Museum has the Wright Place Food Court which has menu items from McDonalds, Boston Market and Donatos Pizzeria.

The Old Post Office Pavillion, just north of the National Mall at 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, has a food court.

I_d venture that many of the restaurants about Penn Quarter are more about business lunches and fine evening dining.

If your kids are up for a short walk up Seventh Street NW and are adventurous eaters, check out the food options around Chinatown/Gallery Place Metro. Heck, there_s even a Five Guys Hamburgers up there!
  • What fun and not-so-touristy things are there to do in Los Angeles?|133093

My friend and I are planning a trip to LA in March sometime. And we_d like to avoid all the typical _Hollywood Walk of Fame_ crap. We_re looking for cool and fun things that won_t be over-run with other tourists. Any suggestions?

  • Well try these --hope it gives you some useful suggestions...

  • I think some of your best bets are Venice Beach. Maybe it_s touristy, but such an open air theater I think it_s worth it

Either Getty museums is a good choice, also the Huntington Library in San Marino or most any of our museums.

Previous poster has a point, most everything here is designed for the tourist or the shopper. So it_s either museums, parks, or sporting events.

  • The Getty Museum is a must!

I spent 5 hours there last week, it is truly amazing!

  • all the fun stuff there IS touristy....don_t be hypocirtey, ur tourist urself if ur gonna visit

  • go to a doger game!!!.....the the cheaperst ones are 8 bucks! u_ll be fine......and ofcourse go clubbing.....Hollywood Blv and SUnset are the streets to hit. You can also go down to Elysian Park and check out the LAPD Academy.....Go to DOwntown and watch a film in the Disney Theater. Belive me their is soo much to do in LA.....so much!!

  • downtown!!
Griffith park(i think its spelled right)
so many things to do in L.A. its hard to even think of what your gonna do there

  • Don_t listen to the first poster Lukeee, who said L.A. _damn its a dirty place_.

LA is huge. Areas on the Westside like Beverly Hills, Brentwood. Malibu, etc. are very clean and full of celebrities. Stars don_t want to live in dirty areas...

Relaxing at a beach in Malibu is a good place to start. It_s not so crowded..
Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills is a famous shopping district, but it is always filled with tourists.
There_s also Universal Studios and Six Flags Magic Mountain/Hurricane Harbor....very fun.

  • Great idea! We welcome you! First thing: get a copy of the paper and you will see a gazillion things you_d like to do! The Getty Museum is a must see!

  • i suggest not going to LA then... Its all like that :(
    damn its a dirty place
