Moving to Chicago from San Diego. Where r the best areas to live that are happening and exciting?|148735

I just got a degree in business with an emphasis in management. i would like to live in the city where everything is happening. I would like to be in an area where there is bars, restaurants, clubs, venues etc. At the same time I want to be close to the financial districts to land a job.

  • There are bars, clubs and restaurants everywhere. Chicago is a very _neighborhood-y_ city...there are lot of large neighborhoods with smaller more defined ones inside of that.

If you want an active night life scene near the financial district, try RIver North, West Loop or Gold Coast. The first two are walking distance to the Loop; the Gold Coast is maybe a 15 minute train ride down.

These neighborhoods are not cheap. If you are looking to rent...expect to pay about $1000 for a studio, $1500 1bd and so on. If you are looking to buy, depending on finishes, you would be pressed to find something you really want for less than $300k (small 1bd). Of course, there are bargains to be found, just depends on what you are willing to sacrifice.

I used to rent a 700 sq. ft. 1bd East of Michigan Ave. in Streeterville (sub-neighborhood of Gold Coast) for $1195, there we_re no amenities, window a/c_s, crap kitchen and not the best apartment...but the location was nice for the time I was working up there.

Hope this helps! I_ll check back soon!

  • PB (Pacific Beach) is where alot of young people/college age people live and party. It_s gorgeous but of course expensive. A one bedroom will be around $1,000/mo if you can even find one or find a job. But good luck anyways.

Edit- my bad I read wrong, thought you were moving TO san diego! sorry!

  • Loop, Lakeview, Lincoln Park, River North, Streeterville, and Near North are neighborhoods are to look into.

  • That covers a lot of ground but Mission Valley or anywhere near the beach leaps to mind.

  • LOL good luck with the finance sector
  • What are some fun things to do in ocean city maryland?|182759

  • What are the safer parts of town to live in Las Vegas?|187878

I want to buy a small house sense I_m never going to need a big one, but areas smaller homes tend to have higher crime. What areas of town should I avoid? Break ins and gang activity are the only things that really concern me.

  • Avoid Central and North Las Vegas. You want to stay away from the housing that is really close to I-95 _ I-15. My personal opinion of the better areas are Green Valley, Henderson, Seven Hills, Summerlin, Mountains Edge, and Silverado Ranch.

Break ins happen regardless of the neighborhood, but gang activity tends to occur around schools, older North Las Vegas and South East LV, and central areas of the town.

You could always visit www.lvmpd.com and search crimes by neighborhood if you want to research on your own.
    Good Luck.

  • To add to wildangeldreamer great answer, I would also consider where you might work. If you are looking to work at one of the casinos, then the South side of town is better. Such as Henderson, The drive time from the North with all the construction that is probably going to last for years is horrible. If you are in general work such as Dept Stores, Grocery Stores, Mechanic_s, Medical, etc you probably can get a decent job that is off strip on the west side of town. Then Summerlin, North West may be a better option. Just my 2 cents.

  • Las Vegas is pretty safe, but there are some places that is not safe and have dark alleys. The safer roots are the houses south of Las Vegas, If you go north, takes you to downtown. If you go in the east and west direction, there are some safe neighborhoods you can trust.

  • Check out homes in The Lakes, Summerlin or Piccole Ranch, all that have smaller homes. They are the west end of Sahara.

Gang are everywhere but they action is not a major issue in these planned communities.

  • For you the best area would be the southwest. They have newer houses there in various sizes. The area is pretty safe and is just being developed so there is still desert area everywhere. That would be your best. South of 215 around S.Jones, S. Rainbow.
  • What are some mother daughter activities to do in Florida?|198787

In Florida, what are some fun, mother daughter activities to do together? Preferably art or cooking. Pottery, jewelry, painting maybe for art. Either give me the website name or the name of the place and what city it is located in. Somewhere in either, Delray Beach, Fort Lauderdale, or somewhere in that area. Thanx everyone!

  • the amusement park. try some carnival games and win plush toys for each other. picnic_s are always the best. and florida is the most perfect place to have a picnic since its very sunny there and the palm trees. also ask your mother what she would like to do. the opinion of others always helps.

  • What is the easiest and cheapest way to get from LAX to the UCLA campus?|182929

The shuttles seem to have outrageous prices, is there a train or a bus I can take?

  • from Lax take the free LOT C bus to the city bus center
then board a Culver city (Green bus) line 6 it goes right up sepulveda
blvd and its last stop is the student union bus terminal
    and cost is 75 cents
note the above is only valid until august 23 when the fare
will increase to 1.00 on Monday August 24
also Obsiman is also corrrect about a flyway but its only 5.00
(not $7) but it doest go into the campus

  • There is a Flyaway bus to UCLA from the lower level, $7. Look for the green _flyaway_ signs.
  • What are some good vacation spots out west?|173670

My family and I are looking for a cheap vacation spot out west in the mountains somewhere that_s not a big tourist attraction so that we don_t have to mess with a bunch of other people. any suggestions?

  • Glacier Park is absolutely beautiful and most people go to Yellowstone instead.
  • What are some cool places to visit in the US?|183889

I am in college and have very little money. Me and a few friends are going on a road trip for spring break, and we want some cool places to visit. Any where you have been, any where you recommend! Resturants, hotels, parks, cities, beaches, museums, landmarks, any where! They don_t have to be big either, if you have a cool family owned restaurant you love in your backyard, tell us about it!

Try to keep it on the east coast and nothing that will cost a lot. Thanks!

  • Check out the National Park Service_s website at www.nps.gov. You can get a NP Passport for about 8 bucks and collect _stamps_ with the date that you were at each park. They_re relatively inexpensive (sometimes free) and it_s a good way to see a whole variety of things. Some of my favorites have been Mammoth Caves (KY), Golden Spike (UT), Dry Tortugas (FL), Gettysburg (PA), and Lincoln_s Home (IL). Of course the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton were pretty cool too.

  • there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it_s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

  • In New York it_s beautiful! Make sure to go to Niagara Falls, then in Montana/Wyoming there_s the hot springs it_s a huge volcano but won_t erupt on you and it_s like geysers

What is there to do in Savannah on the weekend?|148331

We_ve done the whole go and get smoe drinks on river street. Its to cold for the beach and we have the winter blues of bordem setting in. Savannah is the nearest large town we live to please if any ideas i could use the help.

  • Get away from the tourist areas and go to where the locals hang out. It_s a great city and you can find anything you want there. It is a HOT town.
  • I will be moving to Cambridge MA and working in Baltimore MD. How far is the train journey?|148812

  • What is a good jacket brand for the windy Chicago winter?|145550

I get cold VERY easily and I need a good, durable, warm winter jacket for the winters to come in Chicago.

What_s a good coat, or coat brand that will keep me warm? Or could you guys give me suggestions on what to look for in coat materials (ex: down, etc) for warmth? Thanks!

  • Columbia. I have one and I usually don_t even notice the wind. Yes, I do live in Chicago.

  • Columbia, and north face. My BF is attached to that jacket. I heard from a friend that Nordstrom Rack had Columbia for men right now, check it out.The North Face website also has the new coat for men, i forget what its called, but its like a 3 in 1..it looks awesome! it might be the tri-climate. :)

  • Columbia. You can also get them at Kohl_s. Goose down is one of the best materials for winter coats. It is warm, yet does not weigh you down.

  • Anything bulletproof.

How long does it take to drive from Buffalo New York to Key West?|184901

Me and some friends want to go up to Key West for our senior trip driving. How long does it take to drive from Buffalo New York to Key West? Would it be cheaper to fly?

  • If you are all driving together in one vehicle, driving will probably be less expensive. It is expensive to fly to Key West. Here is a link to the driving directions from mapquest, which says about 25 hours. Allow a few hours more than that for missed exits, meal stops, etc.

  • Fly down to either FT. Lauderdale or Miami and rent a car then it will take you about 4 hrs. If driving it should take about 25 hrs.
  • What is the area of the United States including Alaska and Hawaii?|134933

    Show a source please?

  • total: 9,826,630 sq km
    land: 9,161,923 sq km

  • 3.79 million square miles

  • what? i dont understand what you need to know?
  • Are there any other ways to get around the Big Island of Hawaii?|168374

Car rental for 2 weeks seems to be about $600+ (cannot seem to find anything cheaper. If you know of cheaper car rental, with all the fees and insurance included, please tell me.) That is expensive, just want to know if there is alternate transportation. And NO, I don_t want to hitchhike or walk!

  • I don_t know where you are trying to rent a car from but this is WAY more than it needs to cost. I just pre-payed a rental with Alamo for P.T. Cruiser convertable for $744 all fees_taxes included for 24 days. Alamo is renting at $168 plus fees per week for this car as we speak. Cheaper are available. The bus service on the Big Island SUCKS! You really need a car. Especially only there for a couple of weeks. Trust me, you won_t be sorry. The bus does go around the island, if you want to spend 3 hours or more to get to Hilo. Captain Cook to Kona the bus is O.K. I suppose, but there is SO much more to see.

  • try the local bus i found it to be so cheap and very regular

  • The bus is good, but not preferable for touristing. Many of the more major hotels have shuttles to popular destinations and there are plenty of guided day tours via luxury buses at reasonable prices. I was very glad that I got a rental car when I was there because I like the flexibility and freedom that it gave me. For a lower rate on a rental car try coupons from travel guides and from your airline and hotel. Most places also give discounts or free upgrades if you belong to certain organizations like AAA, AARP, etc.

  • You can catch the bus but if you_re going to be doing any sightseeing, I would suggest you spend the money and get a rental. The bus does travel all the way around the island but it_s often a very slow way to travel and not very reliable.

Budget looks like the best car rental place and is running about $500 for the time period you_re looking for. I would suggest you check out the actual car rental sites for better deals though. They often have weekly specials which give you better rates.

Good luck and have a great trip!
  • What is the weather like in early august in new orleans?|144483

My friend and I are planning a trip and we thought early August would work for us. Anyone know what the weather is like in early August in New Orleans?

  • When you walk out the door, it feels like someone enveloped you in a big hot, wet blanket. You can expect rain at any time, but you can be sure it will be hot and humid all the time. Bring appropriate clothes, and plan your activities around air conditioning.

  • August is one of the hottest months in New Orleans. If you are determined to come to N.O. during August, be sure pack correctly. The weather is HOT....all month long. All day long, all night long. If you are not accustomed to a humid climate, you will sweat profusely due to the humidity. Pack light clothing. Cottons, light colors, shorts, etc. It is NOT cool in the mornings or evenings in South Louisiana in August. Perhaps *cooler* than the days. Early morning temps are often in the 80s at daylight, with high humidity. Daytime temps can reach upper 90s and triple digits occasionally. Actually, we are expecting a high of 90 degrees in just a couple days, and it_s only early May. Air conditioning is our bliss!

  • In the morning its... hot
    In the afternoon its... hot
And then in the evening its... hot

Only variety is sometimes the humidity level is at 100% and sometimes its only 90%

Lots of rain showers too (almost every afternoon it_ll rain for an hour or so.)

  • The page below gives you the usual weather in New Orleans for the 1st 2 weeks of August.

  • The other answers are correct and August is hot and humid. That is why summer is _off season_ for tourism and hotel prices are lower.

  • Blue Ball Blazing Hot and Humid!!! And it_s the peak time for hurricanes to churn up in the Gulf, so folks in New Orleans get pretty antsy in August.

  • It is cool in the morning before 10 am after that the temp. may reach from 80 to 90. In the evening the temp. may go down to 60.

  • hot and muggy. but we do have a great big lake to swim and play in so i dont think anyone here minds...

  • 1 word: HUMID!!

  • HOT and HUMID :(

  • Hot!!!!!!!!

What is the best hotel in Philadelphia Pa?|181639

Okay I admit I am sort of a hotel snob. I like 4 and 5 star hotels. My family and I are going to philly for the weekend and I want a nice hotel but I would like it really close to all the historical things. Does anyone have any suggestion. Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • If you want to be by the historical sites, you want to stay in Olde City. (Although I agree with the other posters that it would also be great to stay in Rittenhouse.) In Olde City, try to get a room at the Omni. It_s fancy, beautiful, and in the heart of Philly_s historical sites.

  • It really depends on what you are looking for.

The top two luxury hotels in the city are the four seasons and 1615 rittenhouse. They are both located near the Rittenhouse square area.

However, given your preference for historicals, I would check out the Sheraton Society Hill, the Hyatt Penns Landing and the Holiday Inn Historic district, all are in the historic area.

You can_t go wrong with either, really, if you choose to stay in Rittenhouse, the Phlash shuttle is still running until the end of the month, or its a nice walk.

  • Some suggestions:

TripAdvisor ranks the Alexander Inn (
    http://tinyurl.com/4vxta7)
as the best hotel, but it is a 3-star hotel.

The first 4-star hotel listed by TripAdvisor (which is usually quite reliable) is the Sofitel (
    http://tinyurl.com/3g7ekl
    or
    http://www.booking.com/hotel/us/sofitel-

Another type of ranking could be found at Booking.com, which is another reliable site, because they basically email people who have booked with them, asking them to rank (something that prevents _fake_ reviews):

    You can also try this:

  • When you_ve made your choice of hotel and district , don_t be a snob - try to save some money at the best hotel.

  • I live in Philly, I had tro stay at the Holiday Inn on 4th _ Arch which is in the historical district.
Marriott _ Hilton are also in Center City close to shopping a few blocks from all of the history stuff. It is nice.
If you want luxury the Four Seasons on the Parkway is the way to go.

  • What is the best hotel(s) to stay in to see the Goonies sites in Astoria Oregon?|168346

I am a huge fan of The Goonies movie and am thinking of taking a trip to Astoria. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for lodging. I_m not looking for an expensive hotel, but one that is clean and as close as possible to the Goonies sites.

  • Hello,
I used to live not far away, so never needed lodging. However please call where ever you go first. our coast line right now is a mess due to the floods and then the mud slides.
Just to be on the safe side call where ever first :0)

  • Google the chamber of commerce in Astoria and ask them. They are more than willing to help add to the tourist trade in the area. I would, however, wait until later in the year as recent storms have made travel iffy with floods, slides, downed trees, etc.
I, too, enjoyed the movie--I have it on DVD. Safe travels!
  • How far in advance can you buy Alcatraz tickets?|154683

My wife and I will be in San Francisco in October. How far in advance can I buy Alcatraz tickets for a specific ferry time?

  • You can make an online reservation up to 90 days in advance. October is off-season though, so a couple days advance notice should be sufficient.

  • You can buy them on pier in fishermans warff. 1 week in advance!

And there is a scalper across the street. You can buy same day tickets from him, but i think they are double the price!

  • The B express train stops on the edge of Central Park and 59th street.
For the Body Exhibit try these trains
Take 2, 3, 4, 5, J, Z, or M to Fulton Street; A and C to Broadway-Nassau. Walk east on Fulton Street to Water Street
but only the 4 and the 5 are express.
Buy a one day fun pass at any Metro card vending Machine in Penn Station for everyone in your group. Use it 5 or more times before midnight and it will pay for itself

Any suggestions? Getting someone to drive us is out.

  • What is the best way to get to Dulles Airport from Alexandria, Virgina?|167279

Is there anything better than a taxi? If not, what taxi company should I use and how much should I expect to pay?

  • 1) Take the Blue Line towards Largo and change at Rosslyn to the Orange Line (you_ll have to change platforms). Take the Orange Line towards Vienna and get off at West Falls Church. There is a Washington Flyer Shuttle there that goes to Dulles, I think every 40 minutes; just follow the signs.

    2) Take the Blue Line towards Largo and catch the 5A Metrobus to Dulles. If you do this, get a transfer at the station where you *catch* the Metro to save 85 cents on your bus fare.

    www.wmata.com

  • If you_re close to a metro stop, just take the metro to West Falls Church and take the bus shuttle from the metro stop. The website is here.

    http://www.washfly.com/

  • i got a taxi from dc to woodbridge and the lovely cab driver charged me$60 and would not take a tip

  • You could always use Dulles Flyer taxi...they are a step up.

If not, Use Washington Flyer taxi...looks like it would be around $40-$50 or so.

From the airport, they would probably take the Dulles Toll Road to 495.

    http://www.metwashairports.com/dulles/pa

  • if you_d like to ride in a style you can take limo for $100

  • Here_s another option, Metro runs a bus, but if you want easy, go with the taxi. More expensive, though.

    http://www.wmata.com/riding/visitors/air

  • It_s easiest to just drive yourself and park your car while you_re away - then it_s there as soon as you arrive back home. But, try to find a taxi company that offers a flat fee as opposed to a metered ride, as that would be pretty pricey. Sometimes limos are actually cheaper than a cab ride.

How much would it cost to move to Hawaii?|141383

We are thinking of moving to Kauai, into a two bedroom condo. I was wondering if anyone had an estimate of how much it would be to move and settle there?

  • I moved to Kauai in 2005. Shipping my car from Long Beach, CA cost about $1000. Matson will only ship your car if it_s totally empty so don_t try to pack stuff in it to save on the move. There are other companies that ship cars and I have heard that some of them allow you to send the car fully packed, but I have never used anyone but Matson. (I moved from CA to the Big Island of Hawaii in 2000, so I have done this twice.)

Do you plan to bring a lot of furnishings and things with you? If so, you will need a container. When I used a container in 2000 it cost about $3000 for the shipping. I did all the packing myself. I also had to pay to hire a trucking company to drop off and pick up the container in both locations (CA and HI).

Your name is Puppy Lover, so I_m assuming you have pets. If you do, there is a mandatory quarantine for pets moving to Hawaii from anywhere else in the world except England. (England has the same quarantine laws Hawaii does.) Check out the link I_ve provided at the bottom for more details. It is time-consuming and expensive, but at least they allow airport release of pets now if you have your paperwork in order. When I moved to the Big Island in 2000, there was a mandatory minimum 30-day quarantine for all animals. That was also very expensive!

I rent a 3-bedroom, 1 bathroom house on the east side of Kauai. It_s a new house and I have few neighbors. This is a desirable area. I pay $1700/month + utilities (cable, phone, electric, water, and trash). That_s another $300+ per month. A 2 bedroom condo will cost you about the same, maybe slightly less, but it depends on where. I had a 2br, 2 ba second floor condo with no yard when I first moved here that I paid $1500/month for.

Groceries are expensive here. All of the locally made and locally grown products (such as eggs and milk) cost MORE than the stuff that is shipped from the mainland, if you can believe that! Most things have to be shipped here, so everything costs more. I shop at Safeway because they have the best sale prices and I buy generic brands whenever I can. Costco helps because I can get detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning products, etc. in bulk much more cheaply than I can get those items at Safeway or even Wal*Mart.

Benefits: very few homes have A/C or heat because we just don_t need it here. The average ANNUAL temperature is 78 degrees! We spend a lot of time outdoors here and make our own fun. We do have a movie theatre and a mall, but nothing like what you_re probably used to on the mainland. There is a lot of beach camping and just plain hanging out at the beach on weekends. We bbq with friends, surf, ride bikes, go to the parks, and just enjoy being outside as much as possible. Kauai is very laid-back and quiet. Not much nightlife at all.

I make over $50,000 annually and could not make it here on my own without the child support check I get from my ex-husband every month. If you have 2 incomes or no debt or one very high income, you will probably be fine if you live within your means.

    Good luck!

  • Here_s a search for 2 BRs in Kauai

    http://honolulu.craigslist.org/search/ap

I think a good rule of thumb is that you will need 2X (getting by) to 3X your rent as take home income. For example:
Rent = $1500. Take home income has to be $3000 to $4500.
Food and transportation will be almost equal to your housing expense, when you add in utilities, car insurance, etc.
So 2X rent gets you by
3X rent and you can relax when you are not working two jobs (typical in Hawaii)
    Advice
Get married. Or get a roommate if you don_t feel that foolish.
Make sure you have a job or at least an 80% chance of getting one before you arrive. You may have to visit, get the job, then come back. This is a good way to do it, because no job and lots of overhead will crush you in a few months.

    Aloha and good luck.

  • It_s very expensive to live there. I went there in 1996 and I talked to this guy who settled there. He lived in a 1 bedroom apartment and his rent was $1000.00 per month!! Not including his utilities. The poor guy worked 3 jobs .... whats the fun in living on that beautiful island if you_re stuck working all the time?
But do whatever you want to do, it_s your life
If you do decide to go enjoy it.

  • Im traveling to Hawaii and I am finding there is so much to do, any recommendations for my itinerary?|154279

I want the Hawain experiance and relaxation. I_ll be there for 7 days.

  • If you are looking for a laid back atmosphere then Maui, Kauai, or the Big Island is your destination. If you are looking for some city life then Oahu is what you are looking at for your final destination. Oahu has the country and a lot more city life for the shopping, restaurants and such. The country can be found on the North Shore and East Shore. So if you are trying to get away from it all then Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island is where you should going. If you are looking for a slice of the city also then make it Oahu.

There is plenty to do from the beaches, hikes, and just relaxing.

    Just another local....

  • Snorkeling on the Big Island! It was one of my favorite memories from my Hawaiian trip! There is a big cove on the island and you can hang out on the beach all day. I think the snorkel rental is like $4.
I also swam with the dophins, which was awesome, but it ended up being about $100 per person for all of 5 minutes of time in the water.

  • Heres some stuff you can try

    Learn Hula dancing
    Go to a Luau
    Horseback riding
Snorkeling (If you_re willin, go to Molokini you can swim with whales).
    Surfing
    Canoe surfing
    Scuba Diving
    Firedancing
    Offroading in jungle
    Hiking in jungle
    Helicoptor ride over waterfalls
    Hiking Near Volcanoes
    Visiting locals and hearing stories
    Kayaking
    River-rafting
    Fishing
    Swimming with dolphins or sharks
    Parasailing
    Windsurfing
    Submarine boat
    Bicycling

  • I_ve only been on the island of Kauai. You have to see Waimea Canyon. Mark Twain described it as the grand canyon of the Pacific. Also Hanalei Bay where Puff the Magic Dragon is. We also took a helicopter flight and went horseback riding, both centered around the Northern end near Princeville. And the Napali Coast, the wettest place on the planet. Says so on the sign.

  • Maui is more relaxing than Honolulu. Hon. is more touristy. Although Pearl Harbor was good if you like history. Take the road to Hana (sp?). It was amazing!! You_ll see so much that you_ll never forget. Just drive careful, b/c it_s a dangerous road if you_re not paying attention. Bring a swimsuit and towel wherever you go. See the mountains, not just the beaches.
  • Where is the best place to go in columbus ohio for new years eve?|151016

My husband and I want to go out and have fun on new years eve without spending a ton of money. We both want to drink so we were hoping to find a party in or near a hotel. I know there is a big one going on at the hyatt downtown, but it would be over $500! We are both in our 40_s,and don_t want to do anything where we_d be the oldest in the crowd! (or youngest!!) Any ideas?

  • The arena district is having a party. Several bars including Spice are participating. It_s always fun down there and there are people of all ages!
  • Is it a good idea to drive from Houston to Florida for a 8 day vacation ?|152269

Houston to Florida is a 1000 miles - is it a good idea to travel that far with a car - and stay around 8 days for disney and orlando parks and Kennedy space center ?

Any advise on what are the suggestions to make it a great holiday.

    Thanks!

  • We have done it between Chicago and Disney World and it worked out well. The conveniance and cost savings of having your own car on vacation is well worth it.

Because the one way distance for us is 1150 miles, we didn_t drive it in one day. We spent overnight in Chattanooga Tennessee, which is approximately the half-way mark. For you, Pensacola Florida is about half-way.

Stay in lodging that has a kitchen where you can prepare your own meals purchased in local grocery stores. This is a whole lot cheaper than eating in restaurants. Also stay at lodging at the attraction you expect to use the most because if they provide transportation within that attraction, it will be free for guests. You will only need your car to visit other attractions and the grocery stores.

Search the internet for coupons for the attractions you plan on visiting. Check with travel agents for discounts on accommodations and attractions.

Have your vehicle inspected by a trusted mechanic at least two weeks before you leave. This will give them time to fix any major problems they find. Check the air inflation on all of your tires. If you have a full-size spare tire in the trunk (like I do), don_t forget to check it also.

Also consider joining a motor club to provide towing and roadside assistance in case you have vehicle problems. Some motor clubs also offer free maps and travel directions (including detours for construction on the routes you plan on taking). Some motor clubs also offer coupons or discounts for attractions, restaurants, lodging and stores. Search the internet for these motor clubs and choose the one that has the benefits you are interested in.

  • see the first answer above for some very good suggestions.

I-10 is a comfortable interstate,,, best bet is to follow I-10 to Lake City, Florida where you will pick up I-75 south to the turnpike and on into Orlando.

I_d choose Mobil Alabama over Pensacola as my half way lay over. Pensacola is best experienced from the interstate, not as an overnight stay. ( I just finished a construction project there last year and found it somewhat stuffy in dealing with travelers, whereas Mobil is quite friendly ) Mobil also has some attractions you may find interesting,,, Bellingrath Gardens and the USS Alabama park come to mind quickly.

Do not be suckered in by the huge number of bill boards touting _free_ or highly discounted tickets for the Orlando attractions. Save the aggravation you will encounter at those places for dealing with traffic in Orlando.

Be prepared for some really crappy attitudes just about everywhere in Orlando,,, the city that depends on tourism for the bulk of it_s livelihood despises tourists and is generally not bashful about letting you know it.

The space center is very nice, you need a full day to travel there, see what you want to see and travel back to Orlando,,, though it_s not a super long day and it is worth the trip in my opinion.

In Orlando, if your budget will allow it, stay at a resort on Disney property,,, getting around is very easy with the built in transportation available and getting off property to see other attractions is quite simple as well. If you cannot stand the idea of staying in Disney, or your budget will not go that expense, locate something in Kissimmee and just avoid driving during the peak hours.

I_m not a Florida native, it is my home state now and I am quite ashamed of some of the attitudes presented to tourists here. BUT,,, it is worth the trip whether you have children or not. Just be prepared is all I am saying.

  • You_ll spend half as much time traveling as you did visiting. Figure at least 2 days each way. Unless you want to sightsee via car, I don_t recommend it. It can be tiring and put wear _ tear on the car. How about trying Greyhound and maybe getting a companion ticket at 50% off? I think you can still hop off at different points along the way with Greyhound.
  • What are the cheapest and best areas in Detroit to live?|128213

I am looking to relocate to Detroit but I know nothing about the city. I was wanting to possibly renovate a property in the city. What is the best area of Detroit to do that in? And what high crime areas should I avoid? I am really looking to find a neighborhood that is low in crime and nice but not expensive. Thanks for any info you can provide.

  • I have lived in a few suburbs of Detroit. First off, I suggest you look in the suburbs and not in the actual city, which is high in crime regardless of the area you live. Depending on if you plan on working or going to school downtown, how far you are willing to travel by car to where you_re going, etc changes the recommendation like crazy.

If you are looking specifically in the city of Detroit, you will want to look at areas near the stadiums (Comerica Park and Ford Field, around Woodward between Jefferson and Mack. Corktown is also nice, and a lot of people are starting to move there. Anywhere around the stadiums and the Wayne State University campus are your best bets for safest areas.

As for suburbs, consider the following:

The fun, young places to live right now are Ferndale and Royal Oak. Lots of culture, bars, some posh clubs, etc. This is essentially the place to be when it starts warming up if you_re not partying on the lake. Renting in these places can be very reasonable, and even buying small homes can be also, provided you are looking in the right areas of the city. Don_t be thrown off by the high rise condo prices here. Another fun place to live is Rochester (or Rochester Hills), as they have a cute downtown area with some good pub-type atmosphere.

You will get the most for your money in Macomb County--check out cities like Sterling Heights and Shelby Township. These are pretty far from the City of Detroit, however, and if you need to go down there on a daily basis you_ll get frustrated by the commute. That said, Sterling Heights is consistently rated as one of the safest cities in America and the school system is great, so if you have kids this is a great place to be.

If you want to look into some of the pricier areas, you can check out Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, and the surrounding areas. These are wonderful places to live, and most of the area wealth is concentrated here.

    Hope this helps!

  • Of course, the cheapest areas of Detroit are not the best. There are several northern suburbs on the city line. they are good family neighborhoods, with reasonable prices: Ferndale, Southfield, Hazel Park, Berkley, etc. You would be about 8 miles from downtown Detroit.

  • Above 8 mile (like the movie.) Troy is very nice. I_d stay away from downtown Detroit, Warren and Southfield.
  • How does places like orbitz, and travlelocity get rates so cheap?|127815

I went to a certian hotel website in the city im looking to stay and its 99 a night, orbitz says i can book for only 69 a night. HOw do they get the rates so cheap?

  • because orditz/etc are huge travel agencies and sent ALOT of customers their way. so the hotel gives it to them for less. also orbits has less cost compared to the other website so they can sell for less.

  • Its very rare to get a better deal from a consolidater the best deals are usually with the hotels direct, also if you book your room and the price drops after booking you call the hotel and they will match your price, booking direct you only pay the first night as a deposit have a look here and see if this does any better
    http://vegasuncovered.wordpress.com/2008

  • They negotiate different rates with the different properties, and what they do is they promise to book a lot of rooms, and as long as they hit those big numbers they are given the cheap rate.

You can see some really cheap rates for vegas hotels at
    http://www.bestofvegas.com

  • they may also have only a limited number of rooms at that rate. We got really cheap deal booking 10 months ahead four nights in Harrahs, middle of the strip for 123 for two. Check out as many sites but remember to write down all the deals and where you saw them so you don_t get confused.

  • You_ll get even cheaper rates if you book direct from the hotels using their promotion codes, check
    http://www.smartervegas.com
they list all the recent codes.

can you help me find good placeses to visit in san francisco?
and good resturant? what is sanfrancisco well known for and especially in foods? what resturant? any sites, placese to visit?

  • San Francisco is a great food town. They are famous for sourdough bread. As an old port city it is known for its seafood especially crab and has a famous Fisherman_s Wharf. Gharadelli chocolates and the bar that claims to have invented the Irish Coffee are nearby. The whole Fisherman_s wharf area is, as you might imagine. a major tourist area. If you drink beer try to visit Anchor Steam brewery, a historic and great brewery. Beyond that the city is a great city for restaurants. You_ll definitely want to try the Chinese and visit the famous Chinatown but you will also find cuisines from all around the world and some of the world_s best chefs. Based on your tastes ask when you are here and you_ll get a lot of good suggestions.

Enjoy the city, it is one of the great cities in the world.

  • Where is the best place to take the kids in Las Vegas?|138226

I_m planning to take my mother and my kids to Las Vegas. Do you know great place for kids?

  • There are a few places that kids seem to love out here in the valley. Here they are:

    Adventuredome in Circus, Circus
    Star Trek at the Hilton
    Gameworks
    M_M World
Forum Shops (they have FAO Schwartz)
    Tigers at Mirage
    Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay
    Coney Island at NY NY
    Excalibur
    Fashion Show Mall

  • circus circus... stratsophere... ny ny (coney island)... paris

  • Stratosphere!

  • I_ve heard that Circus Circus is overrun by kids. I personally would neve take a child to Vegas when there are so many other options available. Vegas in my mind will always be an _adults only_ vacation spot.

  • check out this link from lasvegas.com - it_ll give you a few ideas.

unfortunately, because this town is driven by greed and money, and not families (for example Treasure Island, now known as TI, put a club in the casino/hotel _ got rid of the pirate show. vegas is all about partying _ gambling), there aren_t a ton of things you can do, but this link will give you some.

    have fun!

Is there any beach in NJ where you can do booking for 1 night ?|116711

Hi is there any beach in northern New jersey where we can get booking near beach for 1 night and water sports are there to enjoy?? Where you can spend one day of fun? I tried looking for 1 day cruisees but none are there on the day I want to go. Please suggest something.

  • Theres so many places like that, but not in North Jersey. Your best bet is either Point Pleasant or Seaside Heights. Seaside Heights has waverunner rentals in the bay (not in the ocean). Both beaches have boardwalks with food, games, arcades, and rides.

And both of them are located less than 2 hours away from NYC.

  • eeeeeeeeeeeeeuuuucch NJ ?

  • How much did you spend on your Mickey Mouse ears at Disney World? And do you know a site with a list of hats?|126930

    Hello!

We are planning our first trip to Disney World this fall!!

One of the most important items we all want is of course a Mickey Mouse Ear hat!

Does anyone know a website that has all the different styles?

And how much did you spend on your hat?

    What was your style?

And if you have any other tips send them my way!

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

  • The last pair I bought was actually at Disneyland in CA three years ago. I paid about $12 for them.

At Walt Disney World, you can buy them right on Main St. USA at The Chapeau shop. They will embroider your hat right there for you as well. If you buy your hat at another store, you can still bring it to The Chapeau for embroidery. Keep in mind, in most cases they will not apply a nickname, only a real name.

Here is a link from The Disney Store Theme Park Merchandise page with different styles of the hats.

    http://www.disneystore.com/disney-parks/

  • Get the ears no matter what the price! The hat shop on Main Street has the best selection and they embroider there.
Another tip -if you are traveling with small children go get their hair cut at the barber shop. They will even paint Mickey_s ears on the back of your head if you want.
Go to allears.net for anything Disney World related and get a copy of Birnbaum_s guide to Walt Disney World - it is bible like- i get it every year even if i am not going just to keep up with things. His new ones come out usually in September or October so i am not sure what month you are going.
    Have a great time

  • My son_s were Free. Ok...that may be cheating, he actually got a free pair of Mickey Ears with his first haircut at the Main Street Barber, embroidered with _First Haircut_. I think you can order them at www.DisneyStore.com, or at least check out the pricing.

  • You can get them at downtown Disney and most hotels

  • $30 last year
  • Is there a church of cantheism in southern california?|150424

Im trying to find cantheism churches (marijuana church) in southern california with little success. If you know where I may find said church please post a comment. Many thanks and canni-bless you.

  • You know, I can-not find any Cantheistic churches in SoCal. Despite the fact that this is supposedly the weed capital of the Universe, I_m guessing that such churches are underground. Federal law enforcement is vigorously prosecuting many so-called marijuana clinics, as well as people who grow it for medical reasons, even though it_s supposedly legal. I_ve heard of many people being drug (or is it drugged?) through the courts just to prove their innocence.

My advice is to look along Venice Beach. You canni-find many true believers there.

Is it cannibalism if you bake marijuana into brownies, then eat it?

I ordered something recently from Maryland and I wanted to know approximately how many days should it take till I receive my package. This is already assuming the item has been shipped.

  • From about 5 to 7 working days. You need to clarify what you mean by flat rate shipping, though. Do you mean flat rate, Priority mail by the US postal service? Or is a UPS shipment?

Will be driving from the north down 93 - Is there an easy parking garage in the area? Don_t mind walking a bit. Am unfamiliar with Boston streets and do not want to be driving around aimlessly looking for a parking spot. Not crazy about the T, but will consider if there isn_t another easy option.

  • Well there are lots of gargages/lots around the north end. There_s a huge garage. . .I_m not sure what street it faces, but I know Prince Street is the cross street. . . .It_s about $25 for an evening to park.

  • try the parking area near fanueil hall.

  • Easy parking North End??????????

What are some other fun things to do in Austin on Halloween besides 6th street?|113449

I_ve gone down there every Halloween since 1999, and I want to do something new this year. The plan is to pass out candy to the trick-or-treaters, then go party. But does anyone know of any nightclubs that do stuff for Halloween, and have costume contests and such?

  • Have you gone on the Austin Ghost Tour? I heard they have a special tour every Halloween. It_s downtown and they walk you around showing you all the the scary stuff (based on true events, they say).

You could also try the House of Torment. I_ve heard it_s pretty darn scary.

I am pretty sure that Terrace 59 (above Speakeasy) has a big costume party...but I_m not sure about contests. We go there pretty often. It_s not as crazy as 6th...more _grown up,_ less barf on the floor. You get it.

There_s the Ghoulwill Ball at the Driskill. It_s pretty popular, and a good cause. They will have a costume contest.

Karma (downtown) has a big Halloween party. They_re on 8th street at Colorado (I think). Doors open @9:30 and costume contest starts @11:30. I hear they also give out free drinks to people w/the best costumes. Free alcohol is always a win.

    Have fun!
  • Why does it always rain when I go to Cedar Point?|124839

My family has gone to Cedar Point twice and it has rained both times! The second time we went it rained the whole day!!!We previously went in August or late July (not completely sure, but around there) and are going again for a two day visit sometime in the first week of July. Is the rain due to the park being on a peninsula? What_s the deal? I really just want to experience the park without any closures or wetness.

  • Unfortunately planning anything in Northest Ohio is very difficult because of the weather. This is especially true when you plan well in advance. Unless you plan with in a few days you really have no idea what the weather will be like. The same thing use to happen to me when I lived there in the Cleveland area. Seems like every time we went to Cedar Point or Geauga Lake it would rain. That is one of the reasons I moved from Northeast Ohio... the weather. Just keep your fingers crossed.

I am from Canada and going on vacation there sometime in those 2 mths and wonder about the weather. Here in Alberta it_s windy and cold. Like blue Jean and sweater weather.

  • Orlando in October and November is great....not so stinking hot like now. Highs will be low to mid 80_s....lows 50-60. I usually wear shorts and sandals until around Christmas.

  • Most of the time it_s in the 80_s and 70_s. At night it_s usually in the 50_s and 60_s. Bring a light sweater just in case.

  • In Orlando????
    HOT
but you can personally check at weather.com

  • I_d say the highs are the high 70s-mid 80s, and the lows to be the low-mid 60s most days. There_s occasional rain of course, but its generally fairly dry that time of year. Its t-shirts, shorts, and sandals weather (but not too hot luckily!).

  • Not hot at all. More cool maybe cold. Last year it was pretty hot in October and November but we had a late winter. But its like in the 70-80 SO bring a sweater. Dont bring shorts chances are it wont be that hot.

  • where you going?

  • orlando is always nice. it might be a bit cloudy tho.

  • good that is when the seniors from up north start making their way down for the winter. they are called the snow birds

I have a sabbatical in the spring and would like to rent a cabin for a month, somewhere without much cold or snow. I am a writer and student, so I have very little money to work with. I_ve tried to find stuff online, but it is all _luxury_ cabins. I don_t need a jacuzzi or even a TV, though I probably need electricity (I_m a city boy after all). Does anyone know of any online resources to check out for that sort of thing?

  • In the summer I stay in the cabins in Garner state park or leakey tx. They_re great. They have some without air and some with. The ones without are great because they have these awesome screens that you can open up and wake up with the sounds of nature all around you. It_s not glamorous but you have a kitchen and a bathroom and several little beds. All you_ll need is bedding and some food. They even have outdoor picnic tables and barbeque things. It_s so soothing. • Check out state parks in various states. I know that Virginia has a number - very rustic, but with electricity, plumbing and even a kitchen. They rent by the week, generally. I know that Seashore State Park in Virginia has some, as does Shenandoah National Park, Fairy Stone, Westmoreland and others.

I believe West Virginia has some. Unfortunately , you may find them pricey (they tend to start around $300 a week +) But I_d check other states - no doubt other places have them. I know the north rim of the Grand Canyon does, but you might be too early in the year for them.
  • What is the worst state in the continental US?|147161

I_ve been around the US and want to get a feel from others. I been to quite a few states and actually lived in North Dakota and my vote would go there.

  • You decide for yourself

    Worst Education- Mississippi
    Worst for Business- West Virginia
    Highest Sales Tax-California
    Highest Carbon Emissions- Texas
    Highest Crime Rate- Nevada
    Most Obese State- Mississippi
    Most Crowded State- Rhode Island
Most Corrupt State-Illinois (Please see Washington Post article)
State with the fewest personal freedoms-New York

  • Probably one of the states you_ll typically hear about on _worst states_ lists and the like: Kansas, or New Jersey, or something else.

Granted: there are plenty of people who like those states and are proud of them. Still, there is a reason that places like Kansas and NJ are so reviled. For example, KS isn_t the most happening or most beautiful place in North America. And New Jersey, its problems are too severe for it to be redeemed by the likes of Cape May, Atlantic City, or its proximity to NYC.

  • Alaska. North dakota is bad but alaska is by far the worst place to live in the US by continental im not sure what you mean so alaska might not even be in the answer range.
  • What is there to do in Denver that is cheap and not outdoors?|138009

I_m going to Denver this week and I want to know what is there fun to do there? Something that_s cheap and definitely NOT outdoors (helloooo snow storm!)

Also, I saw a photo of a building in Denver that they light up every year with tons of colorful lights for Christmas. It_s a white building and it_s pretty big. Do they still light it up? What_s the name of it? I thought that might be pretty cool to go see.

    Any other ideas?

  • You want to come to Denver and find something which is fun but yet you don_t like the outdoors, I think you might be visiting the wrong city.

What kind of things do you like doing and what is your price range on _cheap_?

There are plenty of museums and art galleries such as the Denver Museum of Nature and Sciences, Denver Art Museum and Colorado History Museum.

If that is not really what your into then there are plenty of other things to see and do like the Botanic Gardens, Denver Zoo and Downtown Aquarium.

There is also the Denver Mint which offers free tours, Mon-Fri (8am-2pm). If you like shopping then the 16th Street Mall as everything you need including a free shuttle bus to take you from one end to the other. There is also Cherry Creek Mall which is a bit further away but an easy drive.

You might be able to also catch shows at the Performing Arts Center such as ballet, opera and orchestras. If you like stand up comedy then head over to the Comedy Works.

Other places which are worth a look at are the Tattered Book Store, Browns Place and if you like sports then you may be able to catch a Bronco or Nuggets game.

There is Elitch Gardens (Six Flags) theme park, tickets costs between $23 and $45 - but this is outside.

    -----------------------------

As for the _big white building_ that would be the Colorado State Capitol Building, which is also worth going to have a look at, it is quite impressive. It is the home of Colorado Legislature and when you walk around the grounds you will see memorials dedicated to the Civil War Veterans, the men who served aboard the U.S.S. Colorado _ Gettysburg, and other Coloradoans who have died on foreign soil. The building is also open to the public Mon-Fri (7am-5:30pm)

  • There are free days for Colorado residents at museums and cultural events. I posted the link below. If you are not a resident, good excuse to make a new friend. There are some world class exhibits going on--Treasures from the Louvre at the Denver Art Museum, and Titanic at the Natural History Museum, unless that is gone already. There is an Imax theater there, too. There is the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster, outside of Denver, but it won_t take up even half a day, and is maybe more for little kids.

A lot of fun things are at least partially out doors, like shopping at Larimer Square, an outside shopping area with restaurants, and Cherry Creek North, for the same. There is an indoor mall at Cherry Creek.

Plus there are outlet shopping malls outside of Denver.

Sometimes on the weekends Panzano_s (an Italian restaurant) offers a little cooking class for not too much money and it comes with lunch.

You could do a spa day at Tallgrass Spa, or at a spa in Downtown Denver, like the Oxford Hotel or Antoine Du Chez

Or rent a car and drive to Vail. The drive will be pretty and safe from the elements, until you get to Vail and you will be walking outside in the Village, which is pretty and fun.

Otherwise, bundle up and brave the cold.
    Have fun.

  • you can go shopping at Park Medows Mall or Cherry Creek Mall and not buy anything! haha! That_s the only way to make it cheap....

  • I_m sure you have to eat food, go to Casa Bonita, cheap, food is awful but you mainly go for the atmosphere.

Are there any stores online or off that sell Nantucket Island license plate frames?|136000

My mom is a native of Nantucket and has been looking for the plate frames for a long time. No one seems to sell any.

  • I have never seen any either...

Some places will custom make them for you... check those places out too.
  • What is the quickest route from Orlando Sanford International Airport down to Disney World Hotels?|133680

We are going to Disney Florida and flying with First Choice into Sanford International Airport. There seem to be a few possible routes does anyone know which is quickest? I don_t mind paying 4 tolls I just want to get there quickly! Also has anyone hired a car through first choice.. is pick up easy at Sanford etc? How much time would you allow to get to Disney from landing. Want to book a character meal 4 my daughter but land at bout 4pm... Thanks in advance!!

  • Personally the 417 (especially if it_s your first time to Orlando) is the way to go. We fly in from the UK and arrive in Sanford around 4pm, every time we_ve arrived, its taken around 1 hr from the plane to sitting in our vehicle...so the time is now 5pm and the locals are leaving work to go home!!!!!!!!!!!

Here_s one of our links straight from our website, if you go to
    http://maps.google.com/maps?q=%22SFB+to+Lake+Buena+Vista+32830%22_spn=0.4
this will supply you with the map and directions to the Disney area.

Just make sure you have around $10 dollars handy for the tolls....honestly its worth it, also it allows your driver time to acclimatise to the vehicle.

Your journey should take you around 1hr 15mins.

Hope this helps, if you require further information about Orlando please visit our family run website at http://www.sunkissed-orlando-holidays.com

    Have a great time!

    David _ Denise

  • Take the 417 to the International Drive South exit (I think it_s junction 5) then straight ahead at the lights across the 535 onto the Disney lot.

It is possible to get through Sanford in 20 minutes from touch down to driving off in your hire car if you are lucky but you can_t rely on your plane being on time or there being no other hold ups

Also if you booked your car hire through 1st choice most other people on your flight are going to be in the same queue.

I wouldn_t recommend booking anything for the 1st night - you will only get stressed out if you get delayed . By the time you get to your hotel you will all just want to sleep.

Why not try to get a character breakfast for the next morning - you_ll all be up early and ready for a good meal by then...

  • VERY Easy to get from Sanford to Disney...it will be about 60 minutes driving time. There are lots of signs to point you in the direction of toll road 417. Take that westbound to Disney - again there will be signs that will say _disney next exit_ it will be about 5 or 6 tolls and each are about 50 cents to 75 cents and the closer to Disney you get the more big signs and ads you will see for attractions and thrill rides they have! :)
You shouldn_t have trouble picking up the rental car. I would book the character meal for about 7 or 8pm which I know will be _late_ for you but keep in mind it will be about an hour to get your luggage and car and then an hour driving time. If you can, try to book a dinner at one of the Disney resorts that night in advance because dining at Disney is very hard to do this time of year. The phone number to make that is 407-939-Dine. If dinner that night is too late for you try for a breakfast with the characters the following day.

  • The quickest route is the one through the tolls (417). Don_t think that going the other way (which takes you through Downtown (city centre) Orlando is best because its toll free. The tolls don_t slow you down, and the traffic is lighter and more fast moving on toll roads.

Collecting car hire at Sandford is really easy, you come out of the main terminal building and the car rental office (for all agencies) is right outside with the cars parked there too. You may have to queue for ages though, so send the driver on ahead to get the hire car sorted out while the rest of you catch up.

If you land at 4pm you will be lucky to get to Disney before 7pm. Then you would need to park your car and get to wherever the meal is. If its in one of the parks you will need to allow time to get from the parking lot into the park and then to the restaurant. Maybe better to book your character meal for the next day? Enjoy Orlando!

  • You need to allow a good hour drive from Sanford down to Disney. And I would also add in a good 1/2 hour to get your rental car.

The quickest route will be taking 417 (the Greenway toll road) to I-4.

Here is the link to mapquest. If you get the address of the airport and Sanford and then the address in Disney (your hotel or the character meal location) it will give you exact directions but 417 to I-4 is the way to go and I_m sure mapquest will tell you that.

    Have a great time!

And if you_re ever interested in the beautiful North Georgia Mountains of Blue Ridge, please check out my vacation rental:

    http://www.mapquest.com/

  • hello there i go with first choice every year not only because its cheap but its good service weve never had a problem. Although me and my partener dont driver we get a coach transport to our hotel on international drive it usually takes between 50 min to an hour depending on traffic if it is your first time then take the toll road trust me the first time can be pretty daunting we went with the family one year and nearly ended up killing each other lol! have a great time im going in ten weeks cant wait have a good un.

  • if your staying at a disney resort, disney will pick you and your luggage up for free, and bring you back at the end of your vacation for free.

What are some vacation spots in western New York?|113923

Me and my dad usually go to the Adirondacks which is 7 hours from our house for a few days in spring.

We were wondering if there is anywhere else we could go in that is within 7 or so hours of Buffalo.

    Any ideas?

  • Have you been to Letchworth State Park? Definitely worth the visit!

    http://nysparks.state.ny.us/parks/info.a

  • Try www.visitbuffaloniagara.com The area has alot of varied things to do and see and is not to far from Canada. Lots to do on both sides of the border!

  • I am from NY... Niagara Falls is probably the best place to go in western NY. I am not sure what is happening with the passport issues, so I am not sure you can cross into Canada from NY without one anymore... What kinds of activities are you looking to do? You can email me privately if you like and I can give you mre information. (there is a link on my profile) I am familiar with that area.
  • Where is the best area to live in Bethesda for young professionals?|110168

I will be moving to Bethesda, MD following graduation from college in the summer. Being a 22 year old, I am looking for an area in Bethesda that has a relatively decent night life. Between Downtown Bethesda and North Bethesda, which offers a better living environment for younger individuals?

  • Downtown Bethesda is much better: easier to walk around, lots of restaurants, an active downtown. But it_s going to cost you: it_s more expensive than north Bethesda.
  • Why have I had headaches since moving to Houston from Chicago?|121558

I moved here just over three months ago and have gone through almost an entire bottle of tylenol, about 180 pills. One of my co-workers (also from Chicago, new to Houston) has had the same problem. Is this normal? Does anyone know what the cause might be? Thanks!

  • Because you left the greatest city in the whole world. I suggest you move back immediately!!

  • Houston and Chicago are completly different climates, your body has to adjust therefor the headaches.
Houston has more humidity, higher temps and different allegerns and pollutants than chicago. The best thing is consult an allergist or your doctor, that way you can get some medication that will help your body to adjust to the different enviroment. Also it is best not to take over 1200 miligrams of aspirin a day because it can lead to liver damage. Drink lots of water as hydration will also help you liver and your body to change.

  • Might be the warmer temperatures you are not accustomed to, or allergies to things in the environment that are new to your body system because it is a new area you are living in.
It would be better to consult a doctor because it has been 3 months and you still have the headaches. Taking so much medication without the doctor_s advice may not be good.

  • Its probably the altitude change it happens a lot when you move from one terrain to another that is differnet. hope i helped with your problem! =D

  • well houston is a stressful city all right...maybe its the frequent weather fluctuations or humidity, its enough to make anyone sick.

  • How do I get a visa to live in spain and what kind of visas are there?|121154

i want to move to spain so that i can marry and live with my fiance. how can i do that?

  • It should be the responsibility of your fiance to go to immigration in Spain and learn how he can apply for a fiance or spousal visa for you. You can also contact the nearest Embassy or consulate of Spain to you and ask the same questions.see site below.

  • Depends, if your fiance is a citizen of spain then he can claim you but there is no such visas for people wanting to move to other countries, like I said, a Fiance vise. Good luck,

Can anyone recommend a nice hotel or resort for our destination wedding in Sanibel Island, Florida?|120673

It will be my fiance, myself and about 20 guests. We are looking for an affordable but nice place for everyone to stay on Sanibel Island. Maybe even a place we could also do the wedding? What about reception ideas?

  • Sanibel is great go there every year. If you are planning a wedding you really need to check out this site:

    http://www.sanibelcaptivaweddings.com/

This lady does the best work. She has lived on Sanibel for years and every wedding that I have seen her do has been AWESOME!!! Most of the hotels are on the beach; however you can have your wedding on the beach wherever you want, all you need is the permit and someone to marry you, again the site above can help! She is great she can help you find a photographer, get the permits and so on. If you don_t want to use her service you really just need to find someone to marry you and you need to get the permits. Just call city hall they can help you with all of that, or you can even email or call the visitors center, they do weddings all the time. They are a really big help and a free service. Here are some websites to help you:

    http://www.sanibel-captiva.org/

    http://www.sanibelisland.com/weddings.ht

    http://www.sanibel-online.com/island_wed

As for places to stay there are all kinds of wonderful places, I am sure if you contact the hotel and tell them you are planning a wedding they can assist you. You also have a large group of people coming most hotels will give you a group rate, so you need to call and speak with the manager or the sales department. Here are some places that I really like:
The Sanibel Inn is always nice; the company that owns this also owns a few other resorts on the island, all of them are very nice and should also have reception space. The other resort they own that I really like is the Seaside Inn, classic beach resort.

    http://www.sanibelcollection.com/sanibel

You might also try the Sundial Resort. Very nice place! We stayed there a few years back and it was really nice and the staff was great. I believe they also had banquet rooms to have the reception.

    http://www.sundialresort.com/

Gulf Breeze Cottages is also a nice place to stay, although I would not call it a full service resort, they have these wonderful cottages that are located on the beach and very romantic!

    http://www.gbreeze.com/rates_online.htm

I also like the Sandpiper Inn again it is not a resort but it is a true tropical paradise and this little inn makes it feel like you are on a private island. The staff and owners were great when we stayed there.

    http://www.sandpiperinnsanibel.com/

The Sunset Beach Resort is also another very nice resort here. They even have a little bit of _private_ beach. They have a wonderful staff and everything you need to make your stay enjoyable. I am sure that they can assist you with your wedding plans.

    http://www.sanibelcollection.com/sunset%

Believe it or not the Holiday Inn here is really nice! It is not like some of them that I have been to on the mainland. This one is very clean, on the ocean, full service and a great staff. They have waterfalls, a beautiful pool and more. Hey it is worth checking out! They have some really neat places to get married on their grounds; they have cool little paths and things like that. Also it is a very nice place to take some pictures!

    http://www.beachdirectory.com/hisanibeli

Here are some websites with listings of places to stay on Sanibel; I will tell you there really is no run down motels, dirty places, or crappy resorts on the island. I have been to several more to pick friends up or whatever and they all have been really nice. Way different then a large city!

    http://sanibel-captiva-hotels.beachdirec

    http://hotel-guides.us/florida/sanibel-i

    http://www.floridavacations.com/fv/Sanib

    http://www.casaybelresort.com/

Of course depending on how long some people are going to be staying down there they might be better off renting a condo. There are several places on the Island that have condos for rent. The best thing to do is contact the visitors center for a list of them. We stay at the Shell Island Beach Club by the lighthouse. It is really great plus they have all kinds of other amenities.

As for reception ideas what are you looking for? Do you want a traditional reception or something more low key? There are several wonderful restaurants on the island that might be able to assist you. I have never checked for banquet rooms, but I am sure if you contact them they will assist you. They have several that are waterfront, ocean view ect... Some of my favorite places are:
    The Green Flash
    The Bubble Room
    The Hungry Herron
    Sanibel Steak House
    Red Fish Blue Fish
    Dolce Vita

I know that the Thistle Lodge does receptions; they are very good however they can get expensive so you will want to check with them about deals and how much it cost. It is however a very beautiful and romantic place!

    http://www.thistlelodge.com/

There is so much to do on Sanibel, you and your guest are going to have a great time. The beaches are white, the water is blue and you have some of the best shelling in the world!!! I totally recommend doing a wedding at sunset or sunrise, they are so pretty and you get some really good photos. I have been going to Sanibel for years and I can tell you that when people have weddings on the beach, people are respectful of them and really do try to stay out of the way. Even though it is a public beach everyone tries to walk around your party, tries not to get into pictures and will not _join_ in. I have seen a ton of weddings done here and the bride has never had an issue. I also find this website very helpful when planning our yearly trips there:

    http://www.bestofsanibelcaptiva.com/

Well I hope this helps you, you will have a wonderful wedding, Sanibel is always picture perfect! I have been going there forever and trust me you can never have a bad day on Sanibel! Congrats on your marriage!

  • I was in Sanibel Island in April. We stayed at the Sanibel Inn, but there are other hotels on the island. The hotel is right on the beach. There is a restaurant at the hotel, I don_t know if they do weddings, but it wouldn_t hurt to ask. I have some really nice pictures of the island if you like to see them just let me know. Oh, Congrats.

  • Sanibel is so nice - great place for a wedding!

Try TripAdvisor.com - they have user reviews on hotels, etc., and also have forums on various topics at each destination.

    Good luck to you!
  • What is the best and most economical way to move furniture from coast to coast?|119313

Relocating from Ca. to Md. and need someone to move us.

  • We moved from CA to FL 2 yrs ago (husband is Army) and it was cheaper for us to buy new furniture when we got there, I sold our old furniture on Craigslist.org and got a fair price for it so with the money from the old furniture I think we threw in an extra 2000 and was cheaper than moving everything.

  • Uhaul is a big mistake. for that kind of money you can buy an 18 wheeler 48 foot trailer with a 5000 pound liftgate and load it yourself and hire a trucker to take it and sell the trailer later. A trucker will get better fuel mileage than any uhaul and carry a lot more

the rental price for a uhaul will be more than fifteen hundred dollars and you can buy a trailer for about 5000 and sell it later

  • It really depends on how much stuff you have. If you don_t have a lot, you could rent a U-haul or some other brand like it...they have different sizes, from a trailer that you pull to an actual truck that you can drive (if you have someone going with you to drive other cars). I would also get a few companies to come and do free estimates on the cost, most towns have _Two Men and a Truck_ that is cheaper than others. With gas prices like they are though either way is going to cost a lot more than even a few months ago :(

You may be better off getting rid of some of your bigger pieces

Good luck on your move though! :)

  • I found that penske is the cheapest way to go....

I saved about 1500 dollars using them instead of UHaul and their trucks are bigger..

Those pod things are ridiculously expensive....they are not worth the it!!!!

  • Personally I_d have the pros_s do it it_s a flat rate and they_ll do all the work. Flat rate can_t go wrong but don_t take the first price look for the best price.

  • Get rates from moving companies.

  • UHAUL

  • Sell all of the old stuff - move with nothing, then buy everything when you get to MD.

  • Throw it into the ocean...if it gets back to you on the other coast, that means it was meant to be!

  • Buy more furninture and sell the old stuff

  • Wagon Train or U-Haul
  • How much does it cost for taxi for 4 people from Fort Lauderdale Airport to Miami?|117892

I need to go from Fort Lauderdale Airport to Miami Seaport. What would be an economic way to travel? Taxi or shuttles? And how much? Thanks.

  • According to TaxiFarefinder, it says it_s about $100 after tip. The metered rate is about $84. I selected, _Downtown_ as From, and _Fort Lauderdale, FL_ as To.

I assume it_d be cheaper on a shuttle, but at least this site will allow you to gauge as comparison points.

  • This question previously answered. Search the answers.
You may want to look into taking Tri-Rial and then Metro-Rial into Miami.
Shared ride vans cost 50 to 80 per head, depending where you are going. With 4 people a taxi may be your best bet, around 80 to 120 depending on destination.

  • If you can get a cab to take 4 people + baggage it will be a better deal at about $80 or so including tip. There_s a shared ride shuttle that may be a few $$ less but you have wait for them to fill up _ drop off. [Note all the cabs are asking for rate rises for fuel so rates are in flux]
  • What is there to do and see in Colorado?|130411

We are planning on visiting Denver, Colorado Springs, Buena Vista, and Glenwood Springs this summer.

  • MANY things!!! In Denver, the zoo, Museum, Casa Bonita, Butterfly Pavilion. 16th St Mall. the mint, state capitol, art museum..all are outstanding. In Co. Springs, the Air Force Academy, Garden of the Gods, Seven Falls, Old Colorado City, Manitou Springs, Pikes Peak. In Glenwood..the big hot springs pool, and for Buena Vista..see site below. Have a great trip.

  • go up to the mountains it_s really cool to go camping and just look out at nature.
  • What are the mode of public transport available between Chicago and Toronto?|130306

Planning to take a trip to Toronto from Chicago in Mid July. I do not live in the US but need some advice here. Any assistance in this will be appreciated

  • AMTRACK. now i may not get 10 points, but really, do i have to explain it

It_s at Union Station. go there. It_s pretty cheap. The train is classy.

  • Amtrak gets you between the two.

There used to be a train to Detroit then VIA Rail went on from there to Toronto. The Amtrak map however shows the route to be the train through Toledo and Cleveland on to Buffalo and then around Lake Ontario to Toronto.

Review the Amtrak site link below to see your options. You cal also call Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245) if you prefer talking to someone about planning your route.

Is there any possible way to get a private tour of the meyerson in dallas?|103531

I want to surprise my boyfriend with a private tour of the meyerson that includes him being able to play for a short period on the concert grand piano. Anyone know someone who knows someone that might know a way to swing it. I already tried emailing and leaving messages, no response.

  • Private Tours arranged by calling 214/670-3600

  • Im going to Projekt Revolution at the Blossom Music Center. How early can you get in to park?|106313

My friends and I are planning on going EARLY, like before 8 AM, so we can try to get up front in the pit. Is it possible to get to the parking area that early or even just into the park? If not, what can we do in terms of parking, etc? And is there more than one gate? Thanks!

  • Well I don_t think they open the doors until noon, and I have no clue what time they open the parking lot. There is only one main gate to get in and out (there are a few little gates you can get out but not in), and the way they are doing it i guess is they are having 2 stages, and they aren_t opening the main stage until 3 o clock.

And Blossom is way out in the country, they have 4 parking lots, 1 parking lot is for the people who paid for a parking pass, and the other 3 are first come first serve. If they fill up you have to park on grass, and its a long, long walk. So I don_t know about getting there at 8, possibly a little later, just don_t be late, or else plan on walking.
  • How long could it take to send a mail from San Antonio to New Orleans?|104222

I have to send this important letter to New Orleans in time before Aug. 22. How long will the mail takes to there and back considering a 2 day processing time as well as New Orleans in it_s current condition.

  • It should take 2 or 3 days at the most each way....maybe add a day for the damage. Plenty of time.

  • 13 hrs by car

  • You could send it 3 day priority and you can also add a signature card so that you know it will have to be signed for. It_s a little more expensive, but well worth the extra money so that you know it was received.
  • Where is the best place to park outside of DC to ride Metro bus or rail into mall for the day?|117222

We will be vacationing in Washington DC this spring, and have heard its best not to drive in and try to park. I would like to know the best place to park outside of the city proper to take Metro rail or bus in to see the sights each day. We will be staying North of the city. Also, any good, inexpensive places to eat near the mall- can be off the beaten path, one of those places tourists normally don_t know about. Would be welcome to any other suggestions for my family to get the most out of our trip. Thanks.

  • Yes, DC is definately not the best place to drive if you are not familiar with the area. I would recommend parking at one of the following locations. Odenton, MD rail station, or New Carollton, MD rail station. Odenton is a little farther north, but it offers free parking. At New Carollton you can take either the metro system or the MARC train(Penn Line). I have provided links to both below tranportation systems below. Enjoy your stay!

    http://www.wmata.com/

    http://www.mtamaryland.com/services/marc/

(note: the MARC trains do not operate on the weekends)

  • I always stay at the Embassy Suites-Tyson_s Corner, VA. The hotel is awesome and the suites are perfect for a family. The metro is just 2 miles from the hotel. You can drive to the Metro which has free parking at this site every weekend or you can take the hotel shuttle (free) to the metro The hotel also has a free shuttle to the Tyson_s Corner mall and the The Galleria mall which are both awesome. Lots of shopping and eating establishments. Driving into DC is a nightmare.
  • What is there to do in Biloxi, MS besides the Casinos?|170511

We_re planning on going to Biloxi for Labor Day weekend, but I_m having second thoughts because there doesn_t seem to be much to do there besides gambling and I don_t like the whole Casino atmosphere anyway. Are there good clubs, sites to see, outdoor things to do, a nearby beach perhaps? Anything major? Also, how is the city now after Hurricane Katrina?

  • The one year anniversary of Katrina is August 29. I feel that the area is doing extremely well considering the massive devastation, however, it may still seem like a disaster area to someone who did not see the immediate aftermath. There are a couple of casinos open. The beaches are pretty much empty, there is still alot of debris in the shallow water. There are no clubs, restaurants, gas stations, homes, or hotels left on HWY 90 (the beach front road) this extends roughly from the LA state line to AL state line. I would recommend Gulf Shores AL, it is one of the most beautiful beaches and they have so much to offer.

  • I would say in the summer time if you like the beach you could hang out on the pretty beach with the white sand not like the dirty looking sand in Atlantic City.

  • I lived there a loooong time ago. There are boating excursions to some islands about 5 miles out. That could be fun.

  • you can find the answer you are looking
    http://www.biloxi.ms.us

  • the white beach is a great place to chill at...I_ve been there...that_s about it (other than the casinos-we went there too)

  • Don_t go to Biloxi right now unless you want to go to a Casino. The place was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Parts of the beaches are opened, but most are still closed because of debri, and the beach that is opened is dirty and VERY packed, it_s hard to enjoy yourself. Even the mall has stores that haven_t reopened because of the damage. All tourist or beach based stores and resturants are gone, and the entire town just looks like it was blown up. There is rubble everywhere. Go to Pensacol, FL instead, that_s a good beach town with a lot of tourist stuff to do.

  • my sister lives in biloxi MS and im sorry but there is nothing left there is a waterpark though but by the casinos its sad and scary there are casinos upside down and well u get the point there are no hotels srry

Thinking of going to school in SF. How much does it cost for like the monthly or yearly bus pass?|101441

Haha sorry I don_t know what it is called. I_m not use to public transportation and when I go there I just pay with change.

  • Actually, they have raised the monthly pass costs to $55 for adults. It is still a good deal though.

A monthly bus pass costs $90 in Seattle, $75 in Portland, and $70 in Los Angeles. And keep in mind that these systems aren_t as comprehensive as the one in San Francisco. You_re never more than two blocks away from a bus stop, light-rail or subway station here.

Factoring in all that, you_re actually getting quite a bargain.

  • Actually $40 is a good deal considering that it costs $2.00 for each bus or Muni Train ride.

And if you don_t have a car, you will be using the public transportation system ALOT... daily at least a few times a day so the $40 is WELL worth it!

  • a fast pass for ages 17 and up is $40 for a month
17 and below is like $10-15

How much does it cost to have a car in New York City?|102856

I_m talking about parking, insurance, gas and the like. Please be as detailed as possible, thanks.

  • Others above have already gone over the basic costs and the basic principles of why you should not own a car here, but a couple more thoughts:

-- Parking it at home is one thing, but you_ll need to park it at wherever you drive to, also (work? shopping district?) and that can get expensive really quickly.

-- Car maintenance -- more expensive here than in some parts of the country, because the repair shops have higher rent and labor costs. Also, if you_re coming from a warmer climate, you may not be familiar with stuff like snow tires and salt damage.

-- Tolls. If you are commuting to work via most bridges and tunnels, you will pay a toll every day.

    http://www.mta.info/bandt/html/btmap.htm

    http://www.panynj.gov/

-- Non-economic costs. Do you really want to contribute to congestion and air pollution in the City? On a lighter note, if you spend an hour at the end of each workday looking for street parking, will you end up blowing your budget in the area of whiskey or therapy?

  • parkin is a hassle, some buildings have their own garages while others make you park on the street. Insurance is outrageous, especially in Brooklyn, Gas is right now at 3.89 for regular, and its basically not a smart or necessary idea to get a car if you live in the city. Brooklyn, Staten Island, Bronx and Queens....maybe. But Manhattan, not.

  • it depends on the following
1-if you didn_t get any violation tickets (fire hydrant ,parking meter, bus stop......etc)
    2-if you_re a beginner ..geico insurance around $700 / 6 months
    3-gas...ooooh boy...bad timming my friend
2years ago it was $1.99 now its 3.80
4-you can find $100 bill easy in the streets of nyc but parking spot...hell no
renting garage range between $150 to 500 per month depends on the area ...and still
lucky if you get one in your neighbourhood

sorry about my answer but its the truth

  • Top Gun_s insurance cost seems low. I_m in the suburbs and I_m paying over $100/month with a $1,000 deductible.
A car in NYC is such a nuisance and an expense. You will probably come out ahead if you just rent a car for those times when you really need one. Otherwise, public transportation is the way to go.

  • Don_t! The only reason to own a car in NYC is if you get away every weekend. I had a car; paid $500 per month; IT WAS STOLEN FROM THE GARAGE when they put a gun to the attendant_s head! There are NO parking places and you will pay a small fortune every time your car is towed.
NYC has many taxis and a good transit system, a car is an expense not worth it.

  • My friend, that_s about $600 to $800 a month, which can add up to $7,200 to $9,600 a year. You can spend that money on riding public transit to and from work. My advice, on behave of every New Yorkers who have respertory problems, do us a favor, forget the car, take the train and bus.

    Good luck

  • parking costs $400 up/ per month in manhattan.
insurance $100 full coverage if you are good driver.
gas depends on how much you drive $3.78/G

  • Get a car ONLY if you are expecting or have small kids. Its cheaper using the subway system and wake up a few hours ealier to get around.

  • I have 2 words for you ZIP CAR.
  • What places can I not miss when visiting Meramec State Park?|103337

My boyfriend and I are planning a weekend trip to visit the St. James Winery and camp in Meramec State park. We definitely want to do some hiking and check out the cave. Is there anything else we should watch for?

  • A canoe ride is easy to find, and you could do some fishing. But the caves are great, as is the hiking through the forest.

What is your recommended daily schedule for each of the Disney World Parks?|190337

We have been many times, and each time I purchase a book and read all the suggestions. But they contridict each other as to how to take advantage of the time we spend in each park. We have our reservations, and meals planned. I just want to know how to plan each park. Especially in Magic Kingdom and MGM, to avoid crowds where should we head at openning, mid day, late afternoon and evening. We will have two full days in each park?

  • I suggest setting aside two days each for Epcot and Magic Kingdom. They are very large and have many attractions that you wouldnt want to miss out on. For MGM and Animal Kingdom I would only set aside one day for each. I also suggest that if you are staying on the property to take advantage of the extra morning and evening hours. You can really get in a lot of attractions without the other guests there. Also try to do the parks on weekdays when everyone is at work or school. Weekends are when the most crowds happen. Best wishes and have fun!

  • 1. Epcot- You probably don_t need a full day here. This could be your day to sleep in and get some rest.
    2. The Magic Kingdom-This will take at least two days to do each ride once. Other than using Fastpass on the rides with longer rides, the strategy doesn_t make that much difference. A lot of the rides have shorter lines in the late evening. Plan on riding your favorite ride over and over during the evening.
    3. MGM-This can take a full day if you do everything. Use Fastpass for the rides. Watch the earliest showing of each show to avoid the crowds.
    4. Animal Kingdom-This doesn_t have to take a full day. In fact, it closes early. I say just stay from opening until closing and you_ll have plenty of time.
    5. Water parks - Use sunscreen. You won_t want to spend a whole day in the water. Do this last in case you get a sunburn.
    6. Downtown Disney - Boring!

  • I DAY FOR EACH PARK FROM 9 AM FROM UNTIL YOU FINISH SEEING THE PARK

2 TWO DAY IS ALOT BECAUSE MGM IS ONLY ONE DAY I JUST RECENTLY WENT 2 MONTH AGO AND IT TOOK US 1 DAY FOR EACH PARK

  • two full days in each park is a really long time. i suggest you ask the workers at your hotel for recomendations and try getting fast passes for the rides that are most popular. if you get there early enough in the day, you can go around to all the popular rides and get on w/o much que time or you can get fast passes for them and then go around to the less popular rides or go to the souvineer stall. i do not really have a _schedule_ for which parks to visit when. it really just depends on what you like to do and which are your favorite parks, for me, i like animal kingdom and MGM but you might like Epcot, which i suggest going to first because, in my opion, it has the least amount of exciting rides. whatever you do, just go and have fun and try not to schedule anything down to the minute. its a vacation. try relaxing and going to things when you feel like it. its a lot less fun being dragged around to rides and events scheduled for every second. just go with the flow. see when parades and shows are happening and try to plan things around that. Have Fun!
  • How do you deal with moving to a different state?|189646

YOU SEE, I_m lived in Florida my whole life I know EVERYONE and EVERYWHERE. I LOVE it here. But, my mom and step dad have decided to move to Tennessee because they think the house we have there is cheaper and we could survive better and stuff!

WELL, I can_t even think about leaving my friends behind and some of my family. I have cried about it and my best friend Cassie is devastated ):

Do you know how to deal with moving to a different state? I need some serious help ahahahah.

  • Just call Atlanta_s best customer service moving company!

  • I_m sorry to hear that.

Although you may want to feel terribly sad and mope around with your friends about this situation, you need to stop! Now that you_re moving, you have to see this as on opportunity. An opportunity to: make new friends, try something new, be someone different, reinvent yourself, change your goals, wear different clothes, try a new haircut etc.

No one will know you in Tennessee so you can start your new life with a clean slate.

Although you may not want to, making new friends is mandatory. Unless you want to be lonely for the duration of living in Tennessee. What you need to do is be super-friendly, nice and understanding to the new people that you will be meeting. When meeting potential friends/people your own age, try to be as friendly, fun and outgoing as possible (but not obnoxious). This will make people want to be in your company and be friends with you.

    Hope this helps!

  • yeah i have moved to a different state 3 times! it is very hard to move to a new state so i know how you feel. but just know that you will make new good friends and you should join some clubs at your school. thats how i got my friends.

hope this helps! and relax. dont stress over it. you can visit your friend every once in a while. and there are lots of things to do in TN. i live in KY and go there to visit. i go to the zoo, museum with all the famous dead people, dollywood, ect. have fun and good luck!

  • You just buck up and deal with it. Its not like your moving to another country. Florida is close and you can visit or go back for college. Look at it as a new adventure and if you dont like it you go back. Big deal. There are worse things that could happen than moving to another state!

  • Well i have moved all of my life!

Tennessee to Mississippi and just a month ago Georgia.

you live...make new friends get involved and just make it your new home...Tennessee isn_t so bad. i lived there since i was born to half of my 8th grade year.

    come answer mine

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;

  • Ive never had to move so I dont know how you feel but it must be hard! Just make sure you stay in touch (by email, texting, phone...) with your friends from FLorida, and try to make new friends the best that you can in Tennessee.

  • I moved when i was 7 years old from Ohio to Tokyo. It was really hard moving, leaving my best friends, and some of my aunts... I knew everyone in my class and almost my neighborhood... When i moved to Tokyo it was so weird, when i went into the classroom, i almost cried a river.. lol but it was very different. I actually got over it (it took me time), and i knew i had to look forward. I mean, you have to take chances in life.. You have to explore the most you can :) I actually still talk to the people i know best. through myspace and even yahoo... When im older im going back to Ohio.. ( well maybe) and you can decide if you want to live in Florida :)
  • What neighborhoods in Honolulu are ones with high crime and/or high poverty?|115535

My family is considering to make a move to Hawaii from Montana, and we don_t want to get in an area of high crime or high poverty, but we also need the area to be affordable to live in? Any reccomendations on homes/apartments for sale in good areas? What neighborhoods would it be wise to stay clear of?

  • I_m thinking ur talking about Oahu...the main island. Stay away from (especially if u_re from the mainland and your _haole_ (white):

    Kalihi
    Waianae
    Makaha
    Waimanalo
    Wahiawa
    Halawa
    Hauula
    Laie
    Ewa Beach
Makiki (used to safe...now getting taken over by micronesians kinda)

U basically wanna stay away from the West and East sides (except Kaliua and Kaneohe which are nice). The North shore is very country and slow-paced. U wont find much work up there at all and it gets overrun during winter season by pro-surfers and wannabes. That leaves just the South shore...in Honolulu.

Mainlanders do better in Manoa valley...really peaceful and almost hippy-ish small town feel close to the city. Extremely safe. Punahou, University, Aina Haina, and Niu Valley areas are good as well.

Cost of living in HI is very high...two bedrooms usually at least $1200/month rent. 3-bedrooms about $1800/month I think.

  • I just want to add to the answerer above me who has recommended all great places to move to if you_re coming from the mainland; Manoa Valley is very nice and you_ll like it there (just be aware of the high cost). Pauoa Valley is the valley right beside Manoa Valley; it_s not all bad and it_s a little bit cheaper. Also, Hawaii Kai is a nice smaller town to the east of Honolulu.

Make sure before you move from Montana you view the different communities of Hawaii for at least a week; you_ll get a good idea of if you want to move to a certain community or not.

  • i agree with brmuchim , better to look before you pay so much money.

    other areas to NOT go:
Aiea / Pearl city : i lived there, got broken in 9 times.
    Halawa
    Kaimuki
    Waipahu

areas i recommend if you can afford:
    Hawaii Kai
    Manoa
    Mililani - west side
  • How Much Does It Cost To Rent or To Buy An Appartment In NYC?|100074

Hi folks! I would like to know the prices of buying or rent an appartment in New York meaning somewhere in Times Square or Wall Street and etc. Plz only ppl who know can answer this question!(10 points :)I live in Greece and I just want to know the price!Thank u!

  • Depends on the apartment...would be silly to throw out numbers based on no information.

You can _window shop_ on newyork.craigslist.org or on the online classified area of www.nytimes.com .

  • Estimates here are high. Rent: I_d say $1000-2000 for a studio, add $500 per additional bedroom, and it varies wildly by neighborhood. There are some $5000/mo. apartments, I paid $800/mo for a studio in Manhattan only a year ago. Brooklyn and Queens are cheaper.

Buy: The average apartment in New York is selling for more than $1 million now. Expect to spend $500,000 or more, and, again, it depends on the neighborhood.

  • Ballpark? To rent - anywhere from $2500 to $5000 a month or more - depending on square footage and specific neighborhood.

To buy? Average is 1.3 million, according to a news report I saw this morning on WNBC in New York. (www.wnbc.com - they might have the video)

  • Look on realtor.com
You can get an idea of either buying or renting. In some cases it will even show you pics of the apartment.

  • NYC about $3500.00 per month in rent

  • On the island of Manhattan, the average is slightly over 1 million dollars. In the other buroughs, it can be $650,000.

To rent in Manhattan, it can cost 3500 mo, in the other buroughs 1200 mo

  • Those are expensive areas, but assume that a Studio is about $800-1500 a month. A 1-bedroom would be about $1500-$3500 per month.

If you are willing to live in _Battery Park City_ which is just south of the Wallstreet area, you can get a nice 1 bedroom for $1800.

go to www.craigslist.org for a better idea of price and pictures
