Is it feasible now to dismantle the Hoover Dam and replace it with better water management technology?|164411

like using Gorlov turbines to produce electricity for example. Or just use the power of the Colorado river itself to power the electricity for the Western states while allowing the river to just take it_s natural course to the Gulf of Mexico,or just build more canals to get water down to cities like Phoenix,Los Angeles,Albuquerque;etc?

  • Never see any of that happening. With the drop in the water level at Lake Mead ... there is a crisis now. To allow the river to flow back to it_s natural state will create havoc through the canyon. The land has already naturalized itself to the dam being there. If the water level would rise to where it should be they could always allow more to flow downstream. As of now, don_t see that every happening.
  • What is the cheapest, but fun, way to go to Hawii for 9 people next year on vacation?|177892

My family and I would like to go to Hawaii next year. I am afraid it is going to be to expensive. I would like suggestions or comments on where to stay and where to find cheap flights.

  • Have you ever thought about doing a cruise from San Diego or Los Angeles Port to the Hawaiian Islands?

Below is a 15 day, Holland America Lines cruise leaving San Diego and has 6 ports of call. That would be a great way to go see the Islands and have fun. It_s a great value as everyone will be in the same location. Meals, lodging and entertainment are included. Just a thought.

Found these fares on this website:

    http://www.thetravelvision.com.

    15 Days Hawaii

    Holland America Lines-MS Zaandam
San Diego, Hilo, Honolulu, Nawiliwili, Lahaina, Kailua/Hawaii, Ensenada, San Diego

    1 departure date: Apr 6 2009

    Prices from:
    Inside $1899
    OceanView $2199

Great thing is that you can set up a payment plan so it_s paid over the course of the year.

Whichever way you get there, have fun!
    Aloha!

  • Renting a house/condo would be most cost conscious. Check out Vacation Home Rentals for checking out prices. Do a lot of comparison shopping for your flights on the major travel sites. Good starting point is pointandtravel.com. Links below to both.

  • If you live in an area that is a desirable place to visit, you might be able to house swap. There are a number of web sites that can help you arrange a swap.

  • Getting a vacation rental is definitely the way to go, check craigslist.org or local newspapers websites for the best deals. As for cheap tickets, try alohaairlines.com or hawaiian out of california, right now you can get one way for like two hundred dollars, this will change in peak tourist season, but aloha and hawaiian usually still have the best deals. Hotwire, expedia, and priceline are good also. hoped this helped. If you are going to Big Island, here is a website that is still under construction, but has incredible videos of the volcano.

    Aloha

  • On Oahu, don_t rent a house; get at least a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom condo or 2 studios, which ever is cheaper, tell them that only 5 people are staying but squeeze in the rest (I_m assuming part of the 9 includes children).

On the Big Island or Maui get a vacation rental (house, townhouse, duplex, or condo). Just internet search or google _vacation rental maui,_ _vacation rental big island hawaii_ to gauge prices. Then post a question on answers.yahoo.com _where on big island, where on maui._ when you decide where you_re going.

There are direct flights from the West Coast to Honolulu (HNL), Kona, The Big Island (KOA) and Kahului, Maui (OGG). Flights to Honolulu are frequent (_20/day) and usually cheaper. Flights to KOA/OGG are 2-3x per week and may be more expensive. If you fly to HNL, stay in Honolulu, it will cost you $100 (rounded estimate) round trip per person to fly to the other islands. Oahu has more to do, and locations are more convenient than any of the other islands.
  • Is Ontario Mills Mall in California crowded?|174630

I am planning to go there on a Sunday.
Either August 23rd, or the 30th, and i am wondering if it is crowded.
I am going to drive a long way, so I need to know if it is even worth checking out.
Please do not recommend other outlets, my heart is already set on going to this particular one.
    Thank you!

  • Hi,
That depends what time of the year you are going. I would not go near it during Xmas time. Weekends are busy days and there will be a crowd. I would suggest to go during the week if you can. There are 10 entrances, so remember which entrance you came in, or you will be looking for your car for a long time. Good luck.
    Frank.

  • Seeing that you are planning to go on a weekend and right before the new school year, it may be pretty busy. I would recommend going early to avoid the crowds. Also, you may want to check out Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga, its less than 2 miles away at the Foothill Blvd exit off the 15 fwy.

  • Yes it_s going to be super crowded. I went there last week during the week in the afternoon (around 1:30pm) and it was pretty busy. Seemed like I had to park a mile away too. But it is one of my favorite malls, other than Montclair Plaza, so yeah it_s worth checking out. Food court sucks though...no good food at Mills Mall. :(

  • I used to live fairly near to Ontario Mills, and it can get VERY crowded. It was nice when it first opened, but I think it went downhill pretty fast. The Outlet Mall in Cabazon is much better quality, and kept up better

  • Probably, but what kind of mall/outlet is actually empty? I think it is worth it to make the drive. With tons of stores, I don_t really blame them for being crowded. Happy shopping!

  • I go there, yea on sundays it gets real crowded but they have cool stores, and a huge gameworks n sam ash n rainforest cafe, jc penny, burlington coat factory, and 200 stores more!!

  • Be safe. A lot of gang activity and hoodlums hang out here.

  • im going to this one too im so exited:) You shud let me know how great it was?
  • Where can I launch a model rocket from in Baltimore?|161553

I_ve been at Johns Hopkins for the summer and a friend of mine suggested that we build a model rocket. I now have the rocket but don_t know where to launch it. Does anyone know of any parks in Baltimore(particularly those close to the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus) where model rockets can be launched from?

  • Druid hill Park
    Patterson Park
All of the high school_s in the area_s have football fields
  • Why in the United States, the driving licence is 16 years?|142048

Why in the United States, the driving licence is 16 years, the majority 18 years and permission to drink some alcohol 22 years?

  • Permition to drink alchohol starts at 21 years old.

  • That_s a good question. I think that the answer has to do with lawmakers_ perception of maturity and perhaps, to get votes. I think they believed they had to allow 18 year olds the right to vote because they were able to enlist in the military at that age. Sixteen is probably the driving age because it is convenient for parents and there was tremendous pressure for it. Drinking leads to irresponsible behavior, so they make the age for that higher.

  • America is in love with the automobile and they like to get kids hooked from an early age. No one under 18 should drive, really the minimum age should be more like 21.

  • to give kids time to mature for each activity...not all reflexes are fully developed until later...
  • How much do life cost on California per month ?|152079

Including small apartment in an average place , food and transportation .
Of course all of the above mentioned are on average levels (Not luxurious) .

  • Small apartment, studio $800 to 1000, one bedroom $1200 to 1500

Food, one person $150 , two for $250, three for $300, mostly cooking at home.

Transportation depends on how much you drive , currently the gas is $2.99/G,most people spend $150/ month, insurance about $500 for 6 month( full coverage)

CA has best weather, you don_t need air-conditioner, heater, save a lot of money.

  • $4OOO IN CALIFORNIA

  • $4,000-$6,000 dollars, that_s if your lucky. It_s way to expensive out there. I lived in the San Diego area, in a decent neighborhood. We moved back to the mid-west because it cost so much out there.

  • mm well in tennessee it cost 40 000 dollars per child so if i were you i wouldn_t go on a plane or go to california...GO TO TENNESSEE!
