How long will it take to drive from Cupertino (near San Jose) to Los Angeles this Thursday?|164758

I_m planning to leave late morning and I want to get to LA before 6 (laker_s game) because I want to watch it. About how long will it take including all that traffic and rush hour?

not that long its like 4-5 hours but you could take a plane its like $100 and it only takes like an hour. plus its better to take a plane because gas would cost you around that anyways. but its also good to take a car because you can drive around. but what ever is cool

It really all depends WHERE in LA you need to go to. Valley? Hollywood? Compton?

If you take the fastest route, you will take 101 south to 152 east, then turn on the afterburners and jet down to LA on I-5. As you approach LA, your first sign of traffic may be around Glendale or Burbank. But it depends on where you are going after that. You definitely want to avoid downtown. But once you get past Griffith Park southbound on the 5, you will start hitting outbound LA traffic.

10:00 is a safe start time. I_d worry if you didn_t start until noon. Remember, you cannot break the laws of physics.

if you_re driving 75ish it_s about 5 hr w/your gas stop in good traffic. dude .. leave a little earlier. any nocal rush traffic compared to l.a. traffic is bush league. you don_t wanna be getting to the outskirts after 4pm .. getting there early and staring at a wall is still better than that mess. if you can get onto the 5 by 11ish you_re gold.

In a perfect world, if you take Highway 5 it would take five hours. However, as you note, rush hour traffic will be intense, especially around Staples Center.

I_d say leave at least by 10:00. Better to have extra time in LA than be stressed out.

havn_t made that drive in a while, but it used to take us about 5 hours, to play it safe, plan for 8 incase traffic gets bad or something . . . it never heurts to get there a little early ;-)

Okay I admit I am sort of a hotel snob. I like 4 and 5 star hotels. My family and I are going to philly for the weekend and I want a nice hotel but I would like it really close to all the historical things. Does anyone have any suggestion. Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

If you want to be by the historical sites, you want to stay in Olde City. (Although I agree with the other posters that it would also be great to stay in Rittenhouse.) In Olde City, try to get a room at the Omni. It_s fancy, beautiful, and in the heart of Philly_s historical sites.

It really depends on what you are looking for.

The top two luxury hotels in the city are the four seasons and 1615 rittenhouse. They are both located near the Rittenhouse square area.

However, given your preference for historicals, I would check out the Sheraton Society Hill, the Hyatt Penns Landing and the Holiday Inn Historic district, all are in the historic area.

You can_t go wrong with either, really, if you choose to stay in Rittenhouse, the Phlash shuttle is still running until the end of the month, or its a nice walk.

I live in Philly, I had tro stay at the Holiday Inn on 4th _ Arch which is in the historical district.
Marriott _ Hilton are also in Center City close to shopping a few blocks from all of the history stuff. It is nice.
If you want luxury the Four Seasons on the Parkway is the way to go.

Shoredude almost had it right.

Take the Septa Regional Rail train into Market East, but forgo the walk to the river from there. It_s about ten blocks from the station and if you_re unfamiliar with the city, you_ll probably wind up lost. Also the ferry is VERY slow, and not as dependable as you might like in terms of on-time.

Instead follow the signs inside Market East station to the PATCO Hi-Speed-Line at 8th Street. You can reach it underground from the Market East station. There_s a PATCO station just across the river in Camden, a short walk from the concert center.

Consider $2.50 per mile, so you_re easily over $75.

Take the train into Philly and get off at Market East. Walk east on Market St. to Penn_s Landing and take the ferry over to Camden which will leave you off right by the Susquehanna Bank Center (formerly the Tweeter Center).

PS..There_s no way I_d ever think of a young woman walking the streets of Camden. It_s a few blocks walk and not into a nice neighborhood. So avoid the PATCO.

Don_t take a taxi to Camden, definitely take the high speed line. Google PATCO to get the exact fare, but I think it_ll be $4.50 round trip. Or you could pay between $40 and $50 for a cab. PATCO is great though, and drops you off right there, either Broadway or City Hall stop.

You better take a loan out.

We need some nice beaches. We_re planning a trip. We don_t know where is good and where is not. we are clueless and just want to get tan.

You can try Clearwater or St Pete on the West coast of FL or Daytona or Cocoa Beach on the east. Feb might still be a little cool but as long as the sun is out you should be able to tan in Feb. The water might be a little chilly.

As a St. Pete resident I would have to agree with Josh, the Gulf Beaches (Clearwater, St. Pete Beach, Madeira Beach, etc) in Pinellas county are beautiful.

St Petersburg is nick named the _Sunshine City_ because we get an average of 360 days of sunshine each year. So if you choose to vacation here the weather will more than likely be _good._

I have personally been to all of the beaches I mentioned several times and you guys will not be disappointed. All of these beaches are also in very close proximity to St. Petersburg.

Nowhere in Florida is guaranteed to be warm in February. Just this month we_ve had a range from 32 degrees to 82 degrees. Really cold weather only really occurs a couple of weeks or so in the winter, but you never really know. It usually doesn_t last for more than a few days or so at a time. The farther south you go, the better chance you have of consistently warmer weather. Miami, the Keys, etc. would probably be the best bet.

If you just want the beach, and wimpy water, then the gulf is your best bet. But if you want the beach and, the ocean for surfing, body boarding, etc., and warmer water than the gulf then south Florida-- Palm Beach, Lake Worth, Boynton, Delray etc.
