What are the best states in America known for their countryside?|109467

I_m going to work in the US during the summer and would really love to stay somewhere where there_s a lot of nature, villages and stuff.... What would you recommend? Maybe you know some specific towns I could go to?

  • somewhere in new england, my specific choice would be maine--look into portland, its the biggest city...very nice country side with ocean and mountains...plus its a tourist place during the summer so they hire seasonal employees...
some other towns to consider are:

    old orchard beach
    bar harbor
    york/ogonquit

but my 2 top choices would be portland or bar harbor

  • It is really a matter of taste - most of the ones that I like are in the East or NE region - VERMONT, PENNSYLVANIA, VIRGINIA, KENTUCKY. Every state has it_s attractions. You also have to think about what climate you are accustomed to because in the Summer, some states are hotter than others. If I had to pick just one, I would pick Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia - lots to see and do and so much of it historic. (Valley Forge, Amish Country, Brandywine River, tons of museums, etc)

  • Every region has its crown jewel and every region has its slum.
Go where you are led and find the jewels among the thorns.

My favorite area outside of _home_ would be the upper northeast area, in and around the Catskill mountains.
It is always beautiful, no matter the season.
  • How many days should we ski in Boulder?|107376

We_re taking a trip to Boulder in January and were only planning on skiing/snowboarding for one day. We are all beginners but I_m wondering is that enough time to really enjoy it or should we go a second day as well?

  • I_d say one day. Just like the above answer, I was so hurt and sore the next day. You use so many different muscles than you_re used to. Not to mention your butts, wrists and knees are going to take the most abuse from falling on them. Drink LOTS of water during your entire stay in CO. You can always buy half day tickets also if some people want to go back a second day for a little while.

  • I_d say two days, but that_s just me. And most people get some decent skiing done on their first day skiing, snowboarding... well I think most people take longer to get snowboarding. But I_m no ski instructor for sure! You know... I_d honestly reccommend spending the first day going Nordic Skiing, which is pretty easy and is a good start to skiing. But hey, not everyone is into that.
P.S., my favorite ski resort is Copper Mountain, and Eldora is my second favorite (which is close to Boulder.)

  • It really depends on how much you like it. If you are not buying tickets in advance then plan on two days but if you don_t enjoy it then the second day you can see the town.

  • __We are all beginners but I_m wondering is that enough time to really enjoy it or should we go a second day as well?_

That_s up to you, you_re all going to spend most of your time falling on your butts!

  • the first time i snowboarded I was so freaking sore the next day I didn_t do anything but lay on the couch. so I would say one day is enough for your first time.

  • i would say 2 days
  • How much does the photos cost at Disneyland on splash mountain?|119498

I_m going to Disneyland and I want to buy the pictures take on splash mountain and I need find out the cost and do I need to pay extra for tax?

  • I would save a good $25 especially if you want a nice frame.
You can get the pictures right outside the attraction.
  • What should me and my friend do in Las Vegas in one whole day of visit there?|194381

Me and my friend (we are both young adults) are planning a trip to SoCal and we are planning to add Vegas to that mix for 1 whole day. My question is what are the must do in order to have our vegas trip complete and legit?? give us all ur ideas! gambling is really not our thing.

  • One day is not going to do it. Stick to the main part of the Strip.

    *

  • Top of the Stratosphere, Red Rock Canyon follow Charleston West! $5 per carload, bring water to drink, check out the museum.

Starbucks at top of the Stratosphere.

Roller Coaster at The Sahara. Cafeteria like Buffet. 1 star rating.
Choose the Nascar Cafe to eat at!

These two places are within a mile of each other.
Both have free parking garages, unlimited time!

Both of you get the $1 shot glasses at the Sahara bar.

Worlds Largest Gift Shop diagnol to the Sahara casino/hotel. Walk to it. Walk back.

Monorail all the way down to the MGM for $5 each. See the lion/tiger exhibit out front near sportsbook.

See the terrible Zoo on Rancho. Sad looking/disgrace!

  • Enjoy the neon lights at night. Take a trip up the 101 stories to the top of Stratosphere and see the entire Vegas Valley. Put $3, no less, in mega bucks for a chance at millions; each pull the same chance. Go see a cirque show like Mystere or Love. Enjoy a long leisurely buffet. And next time come back longer LOL

  • Here is a page of must see and do things when you come to Vegas. They are in order starting at Mandalay Bay and continuing through to downtown. Print it out and bring with you. Most are free or not expensive and worth the price.

  • Not sure what you mean by _young adults_. If you mean under 21 stay in SoCal another day. If 21 _ over and you cannot think of a thing to do, come explore, and you might want to stay more than a day.

  • Everything from the MGM to the Wynn should just about cover it. Sounds like alot I know but believe me when you see it, it_s really only a few blocks, but very BIG blocks.

hope this link helps give you some tips

  • Rent a car and explore the surrounding area such as the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, and the Desert Country. It is very beautiful.

  • Party like theres no tommorow, thats all what I see here in Vegas .

  • Get married!!!!!!!!

  • There are lots of things you can do in Vegas...I should know because I live here! Depending on on how much money you want to spend, here are a couple of things to do. $= minimum $$=kinda pricey $$$=expensive! :)=free

    1. Go out to a breakfast buffet at one of the hotels. Vegas has tons of of great buffets and while some of them are filling and cheap, others can run very pricey. However, where else can you order caviar at a buffet?? The luxury buffets are the Sterling Brunch at Bally_s $$$, Bellagio Buffet $$, and the Wynn Buffet $$. Cheaper ones are at the Mirage, Mandalay Bay, and Paris.

    2. Since you_re not spending the night, you will be deprived of experiencing the entire nightlife experience Vegas in famous for. Instead, go to a day club. MGM_s is the best. It_s a great way to show off you bikini body and have fun at the same time!

    3. A lot of the hotels offer special attractions.
-Conservatory at the Bellagio: stunning flowers arranged in seasonal designs: waterfalls, windmills.... :)
-Fountains at the Bellagio: the huge lake in front of the hotel comes to life every evening as the water dances to music; one of the most beautiful things i have ever seen :)
-Madame Tussauds at the Venetian: very cool wax figures of famous celebrites/ photo op! $$
-Gondola Rides: also at the venetian relax in a gondola as you listen to your driver sing italian opera $
-Magic Garden: tigers, dolphins, and snakes...oh my! $$
-Volcano: when this thing blows up at night it is awesome! :)

    4. After being a tourist for the day, go to one of Las Vegas_s most delish restaurants. The list goes from least expensive to most.
-Burger Bar at Mandalay Bay: best burgers ever! $15 or less
-House of Blues at Mandalay Bay: decent creole...great music $15 or less
-Rainforest Cafe at MGM Grand: located in a mini-rainforest an amazing experiance you_ll never forget $15-$25
-Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris: one of my favorite places french food in a classy yet comfortable patio is best; also overlooks dancing fountains at bellagio $35 or more
-Il Fornio: good italian food with a view $$

    For fine dining...
Try Craftsteak at MGM, Prime Steakhouse at Bellagio, Eiffel Tower Restaurant at Paris, Nobhill at MGM, Morels at Venetian, or any other place you fancy. (If you can afford these places, there is no need to list prices)

    5. Party the night away at nightclubs such as Jet (Mirage), Pure (Bellagio), Rain (Palms), Studio 54 (MGM), Tryst (Venitian), or XS (Wynn).

    Have fun and party up!!
  • What city has the best anarcho punk scene?|192479

I am seriously considering relocating from the midwest (Milwaukee) to some other part of the country. I_m looking for a place that_s got a decent punk scene and lots of folks into the enviroment/animal rights/veganism. I also like doing _natural stuff_ such as camping, hiking, biking, etc. I tend to gravitate towards the weather that_s found either on the west coast, northwest coast or the west, but I_m open to pretty much anywhere. I_m looking for a place that_s got decent public transportation or a good bike community, since the cost of driving is getting crazy. Being able to find a decent job and reasonable housing would also help! Hopefully, some place like this exists. I have spent my entire life here and I_m looking for a change!

  • Without a doubt if you can_t make it to Glasgow Scotland, then move to Ocean Beach in San Diego. As far as the vegan/animal rights/ stuff goes, there is no better place, san diego is an awesome place, I lived there for five years and am in the process of trying to relocate back there myself, Everyone in san diego says that _O-beacians_, are on a totally different wavelink than most other communities, everyone is really laid back, it_s animal friendly and Newport Avenue has some of the best bars I_ve ever been too, the punk scene in SD rocks, check out the Confederats, my brother in law_s band, there great.
  • What are good zip codes to live in in Broward County?|144537

I am moving to Broward and I am looking for a new house and needed advice on some good areas in Broward. Please advise zip codes with nice areas and alot of things to do. Thanks.

  • There are too many zip codes to break it down--plus a zip code can contain good address sections and really bad ones. So, don_t look at it that way. Mostly, city names are more reliable, and even then...
Good: Coral Springs, Pembroke Pines, East Miramar, Davie, Some areas of Ft. Lauderdale, Wilton Manors, East Sunrise, Rio Vista in Ft Lauderdale is very nice, pricey, but near downtown Ft. Lauderdale where there_s lots to do.

The suburban areas listed are mostly residential--they sometimes have things going on, but as a rule, events _ places are spread out all over the place. Downtown Ft Lauderdale has a lot to offer, but I wouldn_t want to live in most of it--it really depends on where. There are some fabulous condos there, and a few pockets of neighborhoods, you_d really have to see it firsthand. email me if you have specific questions that I might be able to answer

You definitely need a car in Broward, rarely is anything within a comfortable walking distance--especially in the summer months.

  • 33076 Coral Springs

  • How is it to live in Lakeland Florida?|141756

Im planning on moving there next year and i wanted to know everything possible on how it is to live there?? Whats the best area to live ( im a middle class person) , Im a teacher so i wanted to know what_s the best schools are ( elementary) ?

  • The local newspaper might help you with some information.

    Their website is www.theledger.com

Here is another website you might find helpful,
    www.polk-fl.net

That is the Polk County Schools website, they have job openings listed and several other things.

Lakeland is nice. My mom works for the school board in the county offices, she loves it. She started out working in an elementary school.

  • I love Lakeland. I have lived here my entire life (25 years). Both ends of Lakeland are booming - tons of growth. You also have Tampa and Orlando on either side for things to do. I am an elementary music teacher in south Lakeland. There are a lot of good elementary schools in Lakeland. If you go to the school board_s website - www.polk-fl.net - and look at schools, you can see all the schools, where they are located in the county, what school grade they got (this year_s haven_t been posted yet), and jobs.

If you have any more questions, please don_t hesitate to ask!

Where can I find a street map of Manhattan which also includes subway lines and stations?|103235

It seems that every map I find only has one or the other, but i_m trying to figure out what line to take to get as close as possible to a particular address.

  • Hopstop.com is pretty helpful. You can just print out directions from the website.

  • OnNYTurf has a modified Google map of the city with the subway stations and lines all shown. Sounds like exactly what you_re looking for:

    http://www.onnyturf.com/subway/

Like any Google map application, there_s a search box where you can type in an address and easily locate the lines and stations that are closest to it.

  • Get a free subway map at the station _Token_ booth
  • Do you get a 360 degree view from the Signature Room at the 95th?|128087

I_m going to Chicago this June and am planning on going to the John Hancock Observatory. We are not sure if we_re going to go to the observation deck (94th floor) or the restaurant. The only thing holding us back from going to the restaurant is that we_re afraid we won_t get a chance to see a 360 degree view. I was wondering if there is a deck surrounding the restaurant, so that we could see the view from all angles? Or is there no deck surrounding the restaurant and are you stuck with the view you get while sitting in the restaurant?

  • You don_t even get a 360 from the observatory. There is only a 3 sided view. The restaurant has other people sitting at the tables, it would be rude to walk around to other tables in order to see the view.

If you want 360 you have to go to Sears Tower. Even so, I prefer the Hancock. More to do in the neighborhood.

  • No, there are only like 2 or 3 sides that you can look out of but you see all the important stuff. You can get up and walk around. It_s a good time.
  • How old do you have to be to drive in New York City?|128568

When you turn 16, are you permitted to drive to school with a learner_s permit? Where else can you drive and during what hours?

  • Do not listen to any answers saying you can drive at night or drive with someone with you!!!!!!!!! You mentioned New York CITY. I live in NYC and been here my whole life. Ask DMV yourself if you dont believe what I am going to tell you

In new york CITY (5 boroughs) you CANNOT drive with a learners permit, PERIOD unless the car has dual breaks (drivers ed cars). If you get caught your screwed. The only way to get practice is to go with a drivers ed instructor, or go to Long Island where driving with a permit with a licensed driver over 21 is permitted.

Keep in mind that the same applies to your license- you cannot drive till you get your class D license, which will happen either after you finish driver_s ed and you_re 17, or, you wait until you turn 18.
    Be careful and good luck

  • With a learner_s permit, you may drive within New York City:

EXCEPT at an MTA Bridge or tunnel or roadway within a NYC Park.

The vehicle MUST have a dual brake and a dual mirror.

You MUST be supervised by a parent/guardian, NYS DMV Certified Driving Instructor or High School Driver_s Ed Instructor.

You may only drive generally during daylight and outside of NYC NOT on a parkway in Westchester County.

If you are sixteen and get your license within the first six months you can only drive outside the city and nassua county (except with a supervising driver as above).

You can not drive alone in NYC unless you ALSO obtained a driver_s ed certificate (separate from driving school) and then only at seventeen.

  • You have to be 18 to drive in NYC at all, meaning that you can get your permit in NYC but you cant use it there.

A DJ license and permit cannot be used in NYC at all, which means you have to go to Long Island and certain places in Westchester.

Here is the website that will answer all of your questions. My best friend got pulled over when she was 17 driving to Kennedy Airport from Massapequa.

    http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/broch/c41.h

  • you are allowed to drive alone to school after you have taken the road test and received your full junior license (if under 18) and you can only drive from 5am-9pm ... at least for long island its like that...

  • Yes, my friend you are permitted to drive with a learner_s permit, but between the hours of 7am and 7pm. After 7pm, a license adult will have to be in the car with you.

    Good luck

  • If you have a permit you can drive with a person over 18. If you have a license you can drive on your own.

  • You can get your driver_s license the day you turn 18 but no later
  • How long is the transit from Grand Central Terminal to White Plains at the peak morning hours?|138598

This is my first trip to New York City and I have to go to White Plains on the Metro-North Railway during the peak morning hours on a Monday. How long will it take for me to get to White Plains from Grand Central Terminal? I need to plan so I get to where I need to be on time.

  • You will need to take the Metro North Railroad (not the normal train). Some trains take 50 minutes and some take 35 minutes, so make sure to allow at least 1 hour if you don_t want to be late.
check here for schedules and fares:

    http://as0.mta.info/mnr/schedules/sched_

  • The times range from 35 to 50 minutes, depending on the train you catch from the hours of 6AM to 9AM. You can use the link below to find out actual departure/arrival times.

I got into Loyola New Orleans for the spring 2009 semester any tips?|106093

I just found out I got in, and I have less than two weeks to make a decision, so any tips on what the weather is like in the spring in new orleans? Packing tips? What can I expect from Loyola?

  • If you are enrolling for the winter/spring semester, it can get cold in Jan and Feb. I remember one year, Mardi Gras was freezing and I couldn_t be outside for long and went back to campus. Then, a year later I was wearing shorts and a small top to Mardi Gras so it can be very different year to year. As for the spring in NOLA , it can be warm and muggy but it_s the south so that_s the norm. Also, be ready for rain in the spring. Loyola is awesome. It_s smaller than other bigger universities in the area, Tulane or UNO. The classes are smaller and most professors are helpful, they aren_t dealing with very large classes and endless grading of papers. The campus is very easy to navigate and again its on the smaller size so if it_s hot or cold outside you can get from building to building quickly. If you decide to go, and stay on campus, I prefer Buddig Hall. The dorm rooms are older but you only have to share your shower and toilet with 3 other girls, and there_s a sun deck on the roof.

  • The weather year round is just great. It can get very hot starting around April. The coldest it can get is in the 20s and that usually doesn_t last long. It does rain quite a bit even with the sun out, which I think is kind of beautiful.

Loyola (and Tulane, which is right next to it) is a good school to me, if you were to compare it to other colleges in Louisiana. It is very small and has very small classes (11:1 student teacher ratio). It is a pretty diverse place: lots of study abroad students from Spain, France, etc. The people and students are extremely nice. It is a great place to me because even though it is very small, there are so many different kinds of people. It is just so diverse.

  • Spring in nola is great. You will have a great time. You will have many crawfish boils to go too. Mardi gras is very near too!!!! You get off for mardi gras!!!!!! you will love it!!!!!!!!! There is some great shopping and lots to do!!!!!!!!
  • What is the cheapest time to fly from Alaska to Hawaii?|125305

I have three teenagers that live with their mother and i i want to bring to Hawaii to visit me but i dont know when its the best time, I see the price wars for flights but that doesnt affect Hawaii most of the time only mainland.

  • Anytime outside of peak season (late spring/summer) is best to travel to anywhere.Try October to December (Tho Christmas and New Year prices will get hiked) and also try January to April. Guaranteed to have the lowest prices then..

  • When nobody is watching !

  • Universal rule of thumb. Flights are cheaper in the off-season (Which Hawaii really doesn_t have). But you can generally get cheaper flights between Febuary and April.

  • my friend told me the best time to go would be late afternoon. around 5
  • How is Southern Ohio different from Northern Ohio?|108581

I am curious about the intra-state stratification in Ohio. I have been all over Northern Ohio, but not below Columbus. In what way is it different from Northern Ohio? I_m curious more about cultural differences. I can pretty much predict the weather differences and the physiographic differences.

I have heard similar things (that the northern part is very different from the southern part) about Virginia, Florida, West Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri.

    How are they different?

  • On the back of most seed packets, there is a map of the USA. When we moved from Kent, Ohio, we moved from the light blue area into the light green area.

Cincinnati is far more cosmopolitan than anything I experienced in the Akron-Kent-Cleveland area.

Physio-graphically, Cincinnati is on top of and in the valleys between an alluvial plain. This is where the glaciers ended. It was also a bed for the inland sea, so you have a lot of marine fossils embedded in the limestone.

  • well i can not find much of a cultural difference because well

    1. Cincinnati has the Bengals Cleveland has the browns
Bengals are good browns are awful

    2. Cincinnati has the reds Cleveland has the Indians .....
    Indians are good reds suck.

both citys love sports and music and entertainment

there really is not much of a difference at all ... were both next to water and stuff also ... soo yea

oo yea Cincinnati is south and Cleveland is north BTW

  • Northern is flat, southern is hilly
northern is liberal, southern is more conservative - except for the big cities, they are all liberal across the state. The democrat strong holds infrastructure is degraded, crumbling.
  • How long does does it take to get to Lake charles la from jacksonville florida?|176778

well im going to take a greyhound to lack charles LA and im comeing from Jacksonville fl. how long does it take to get there. Is it like a a day or 2 days.

  • 728 miles, driving time is about 11 hours, and on Greyhoud it takes 17-18 hours

  • It_s about 700 miles, so I would give it about 10 hours.

What is a quaint, little romantic town to visit for a long weekend?|103709

We live on Long Island, NY and we do not want to drive more than 3 hours to get to the town... Good Restaurants, Cute Window shopping, anything interesting to do there? Please give some details, even the name of a hotel, B_B where you stayed. Thanks!

  • Mystic, CT

  • Santa Fe, NM...beautiful!

  • Niagra Falls, NY. About 4 hours away, beautiful scenery, hotels right on the falls, casino, restaraunts...you name it. Very Romantic.

  • Fredericksburg, Texas.

  • Niagara on the Lake
  • Im going to Projekt Revolution at the Blossom Music Center. How early can you get in to park?|177233

My friends and I are planning on going EARLY, like before 8 AM, so we can try to get up front in the pit. Is it possible to get to the parking area that early or even just into the park? If not, what can we do in terms of parking, etc? And is there more than one gate? Thanks!

  • Well I don_t think they open the doors until noon, and I have no clue what time they open the parking lot. There is only one main gate to get in and out (there are a few little gates you can get out but not in), and the way they are doing it i guess is they are having 2 stages, and they aren_t opening the main stage until 3 o clock.

And Blossom is way out in the country, they have 4 parking lots, 1 parking lot is for the people who paid for a parking pass, and the other 3 are first come first serve. If they fill up you have to park on grass, and its a long, long walk. So I don_t know about getting there at 8, possibly a little later, just don_t be late, or else plan on walking.
  • Are the monuments and museums in Washington DC within walking distance of each other?|187745

I will be traveling to Washington DC this week and since my trip is limited by few days I want to plan ahead so I can see as much as I can. I will be there for 3 days. If I take the metro to White house can I walk to smithsonian, memorials, arlington cemetery? What is withing walking distance of what? So I can plan a trip per day, taking one trip and walking the rest of the day. Thanks

  • Most of the monuments are within walking distance of each other - if you like to walk. The White House is a mile from the Capitol (and there are some sights on the far side of the Capitol like the Supreme Court and the Library of Congress. The Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial are two miles apart, with the White House about 1/4 mile north of this axis - with 10 of the Smithsonian Museums, the National Gallery of Art, Washington Monument, WWII memorial, Constitution Gardens, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and Korean War Memorial between them. an Eleventh Smithsonian Museum is on Pennsylvania Avenue half a block from the White House.

Also positioned a little south of this axis is the Tidal Basin, and the Jefferson and FDR Memorials.

Arlington Cemetery is a little harder, but near the Lincoln Memorial is Memorial Bridge, which will take you over there.
And additional half mile extended from Lincoln and a couple of miles walking in the cemetery to see everything.

Check out our Podcast Walking tour of Washington. We do a tour of the mall, we also do a _grand tour_ from the Capitol South Metro past the Capitol, and everything around it, and down PA avenue to White House then across to the Washington Monument.

The Circulator Bus mentioned above, does have service in this area (and to the Convention Center area, and to Georgetown from Union Station) and is only $1, but the routes are not as the poster stated (he said he was not sure). I have a link to that also - to help you. Note the Smithsonian-National Gallery of Art Loop runs weekends only.

  • Yes, the majority are within a mile of each other, though in the high heat and humidity in the summer it is not always a pleasant walk. Get a good map of the touristy area close to the Mall to plan your trips. Note that there is a bus service that goes very close to all of the monuments for a flat fare (I think it is $1, but I never use it). There are 3 clusters of sights, 1. on Capitol Hill (Capitol, Supreme Court, Library of Congress), 2. the White House and west (Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial), and 3. central Mall Smithsonian Museums. There are also some worthwhile places further away including, among many others the The National Museum of American Art and Portrait Gallery at Gallery Place, the Phillips Collection near Dupont Circle, Georgetown, and the National Arboretum. Getting to them requires transportation

Arlington Cem. is beyond comfortable walking distance, but there is Metro service. Get a good metro map on line at

    http://www.wmata.com

  • it was so many years ago we visited DC we had a great time, but we visited Arlington by bus, tour bus, anyway, most of the places are within walking distance, some longer than others, have fun, you need more than three days, hope you get the chance to go back sometime, enjoy, the Lincoln Memorial is awesome, really worth the trip for that alone. have fun
  • What is the most cost effective way to get from the Long Beach confrence center to LAX?|127870

How much for a taxi and how long
    Public transportation?
    Other ways?

  • The MOST cost effective (but rather time consuming) way is to ride the Metro Blue line north to the Imperial Station. Transfer to the Metro Green line west to the Aviation Blvd. Station. Take the (free) _G_ Shuttle into LAX. Total fare is $2.50, transit time is 1 hour 15 minutes.

  • You can do the blue to green line thing that someone mentioned, or you can just take the blue line straight up to Union Station and then take the Flyaway shuttle from Union Station to LAX.

  • super shuttle or primetime shuttle is always good or for public transportation take the BLUE line north and get off where it intersects with the green line. Take the Green line west to the Aviation station and LAX has a FREE shuttle from the Green line to the airport. Shuttle should be around $20 to $30 and the Metro Rail is a couple of bucks.

  • Shuttle service. You will find them listed under airport shuttle service in the yellow pages (or internet serach).

  • Where can I find a good selections of inexpensive bathing suits online? Or in store?|126803

I_m going the the Carribean :-)!

If you know a store in the Manhattan, Queens, or Long Island area that would be cool. I dont mind driving at all. Even Tanger outlets is fine. I would go and see but I dont want to be dissapointed at the selection when I get there.

  • I would get a swimsuit before you go, just to make sure it fits and is what you want. You might try Tropi-Ties Swimwear. There_s a big sale going on and you can find beautiful, designer swimsuits for a fraction of the price. And here_s a little secret. If you want even cheaper, try their discount outlet store on Ebay.

Good luck and have fun on your trip!

  • You will probably find a better selection and better prices in the Caribbean.

I_m from Ireland and am going to Boston at the start of July until late August, I have a batchelors degree in English and History. I don_t have any waitressing or bartending experience, but I have worked as a shop assistant for four years. Please help because I_m drawing blanks here!

  • Since you mention working in a shop, sounds like that would make the most sense to start with. I_d look into places like Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market, maybe Harvard Sq, and other high tourist areas as they get very busy in the summer and will definately be looking for help. A huge advantage you will have is that most of their staffing comes from the college student population, most of whom leave for the summer.

While I agree that Craig_s list is a wonderful resource, I might recommend it more if you are looking for a sublet to live in (a GREAT summer option as you get a lot more for your dollar that way). You might luck out and find a job on there, but many of these places don_t actively advertise until they have an opening. I_m assuming you_d like to set something up before you arrive if possible. I_d suggest checking out different shopping areas and store chains and contacting them directly with a strong intro letter and a resume if you have it. And I know there are a few stores in the area that specialize in Irish goods. I would Google for those and contact them. I am sure they would LOVE someone with the sound there....good for their business and good for you!

My biggest concern is your time here is pretty limited. That might be a problem, but hopefully you will find the perfect job. In the worst case scenario you could always register with the temp agencies and hope for availablity. But I would put that at the bottom of the list, since I personally am not a fan of temping, given how unsure it is, and how half of what you make goes to the employer!

Hope in addition to working you_ll have time to play and explore around here, as the area is awesome in the summer! Best of luck!

  • a Camp Counsellor with the boys and girls Club summer program .Its usually only a 6-8 weeks program any ways also the YMCA Has a summer program that hirer_s Camp counsellors No These are Not Overnight camps. You would still Have your nights and weekends completely free.
Or If you Do want to be an Overnight camp counsellor for the summer here you go

  • I think the best way to see what jobs are available is by going to craigslist. There are always new jobs being posted on the site everyday. Perhaps you will find one that suits you.

  • You could try lifeguarding if you are CPR certified and can swim, A lot of libraries do summer camps.
  • What city in the Orange County (or other counties around it) can you see the most stars?|113803

I_m interested in relocating to a city or town that you can see a lot of stars in. Also, a more eco-friendly place, but I_m more interested in the stars. And by stars, yes, I mean celestial bodies.

Also, is there any site that can find cities with qualities you_re looking for?

  • Unfortunately you can_t see stars in any cities, because of the lights..

I live in a city in the midwest, have a deck on the roof above the second floor, so I_m above the lights, and still can_t see well.. even with the big telescope....
  • How to get to queens mall from Manhanttan?|124713

I live in Manhattan as posted above. I live around george washington heights and all i want to know is how to get there by train? Any answer would suffice.

  • My friend, if you_re near the _A_ train, take the downtown train to 42nd Street-Port Authority Bus Terminal. Once there, go upstairs, crossover to the Uptown/Queens-bound platform and take the Queens-bound _E_ train to Roosevelt Avenue-Jackson Heights.

At Roosevelt Avenue-Jackson Heights, transfer across the platform to the _G_, _R_ or _V_ trains. Take either Forest Hills-bound train from Roosevelt Avenue to Woodhaven Blvd.

At Woodhaven Blvd, exit the subway and walk a short distance to the Queens Center Mall.

I hope this information is very helpful.

    Good luck
    Native New Yorker

  • Best way will be subway:
Do you mean Ft. George/Washington Heights:
If you_re near A or (1), take them to 42nd St-Port Authority Bus Terminal/Times Sq.
Transfer to Queens-bound (E) train to Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Av.
Then take either Queens-bound R or V train. During the evenings after 9pm, G train is provided. Take them to Woodhaven Blvd.

  • Take any train that_ll get you to able to transfer to the _R_ train. Then take the _R_ uptown train to the Grand Avenue/Newton Street stop. You_ll be about 2 blocks away from the mall when you get out of the train station. Just ask anyone on the street which direction the mall is?

  • Take the E or V or R to the Woodhaven Blvd stop. The mall is right there at the intersection of Woodhaven Blvd and Queens Blvd.
  • Is there tax on movie tickets in New York City?|124022

Im planning a party and im not sure how much money do my friends need to bring. We have to eat dinner and other things.

  • No tax on movie tickets yet but our Governor is trying to get one implemented.

_Haircuts are getting more expensive. Today, some purchases, like haircuts, MOVIE TICKETS and cable television subscriptions, are not subject to city sales tax. But New York State, which has an even bigger budget problem than New York City, wants to tax them to raise revenue. New York City is willing to play ball._

Breakfast: $0 to $7; Some hotel provides a free hot breakfast so wake up early and eat enought to carry you to lunch.

Lunch: $5 to $20; All you can-eat restaurants and can save you big.

Dinner: $15 to $60; If you can_t pronunce the items on the menu, be prepared to pay a pretty penny but the restaurant will do their best to let you have a good dining experience.

AMC Empire 25 is a good theatre to go to. The arm rest flips up to make couple snuggle close.

  • At least 100 each. Everything in the city is taxed. Sales tax, entertainment tax.
  • What is the best way to travel between Midway and OHare airports?|108561

I have free Southwest vouchers I would like to use to visit Chicago for my friend_s wedding. Her wedding and reception are actually closer to OHare airport, but Southwest flys to Midway. What is the best way to travel between Midway and OHare? Or should I use my vouchers for another trip and shell out ~$330 to fly to OHare on another airline?

  • With airfare being so expensive just take the Orange line from Midway downtwon and catch a blue line to O_hare. It is very simple and cheap.

  • Take the Super Shuttle.....$20 and about an hour

  • Try taking the CTA train From Midway to O_hare...www.rtachicago.com or call 773-836-7000 it will only cost you about 2 bucks...Take the Orange line to Clark and Lake and Transfer to the Blueline to Ohare..... If you dont want the vouchers i will be more than happy to have them...:)

  • Take either the shuttle or a taxi. Either way it_s not going to cost you so much that it would be a reason to change your trip plans.

  • At the risk of being reduntant, the CHEAPEST way to get between the two would be the Orange Line from Midway to downtown, then switch over to the Blue Line (to make the switch, you go into the elevated station, take the escalator down to street level, then down again to the subway).

But the EASIEST way might be to take an airport shuttle. There_s one called Omega that goes between the two airports for $16. Not that expensive to go from door to door.

    http://www.flychicago.com/ohare/groundtr

  • It_s actually really easy to get from Midway to O_Hare. When you land go to the Orange Line train. Anyone can direct you if you can_t find your way. Take the train up to the Clark/Lake stop and transfer to the Blue Line train. Again, anyone can direct you if then signs confuse you. (Some are great and some seem to make no sense.) The Blue Line goes all the way to O_Hare! People here are pretty nice and helpful when you need directions. The whole ride one way will cost you $2.25. Much better than a taxi!

  • There are several ways to get between airports. If you are familiar with the mono-rails then you can get there very cheaply while having an experience. Or what I did when I came in at wrong airport one time, they have various van lines that run you over for under 20 bucks. You could get a taxi also but that is cost prohibitive.

  • The best way is to use the CTA - El-train or the elevated subway you can get almost anywhere in the city and both Midway and Ohare are connected. Once you get closer to where you need to be, take a cab.

The CTA has a good website

Where is the best place to live in the United States?|110540

Where is the best place to live in the US based on available jobs, rate of pay, Cheap apartments for the best amount of space(looking for a 2 bedroom), climate and safety? I am currently in Albuquerque NM. Average rent for a 2 bedroom is at least 600.00 a month and they are pretty small.

  • I hear Austin, TX is blowing up for jobs and a great place to live. Also, check out Nashville, TN or Louisville, KY for slightly cheaper places that still have good jobs available.

  • I am from ABQ so I am very familiar with that area. I would suggest North Carolina, where I currently live. The Asheville or Wilmington areas are really booming and excellent for things to do, particularly outdoor activities. Asheville is in the Mountains and Wilmington is on the beach. Asheville is a little like Santa Fe with the arts and cultural things going on. Unlike Santa Fe it hasn_t been taken over by the _Wanna Be Movie Stars_ and north easterners
    .

  • / Not here in the MD/D.C./VA area...

Average rent for a 2 bedroom is at least $2,000.00 a month, and they are pretty small, too.

I think anywhere having a huge housing crisis might be a good bet, but the job market might not be good. - Florida, Las Vegas, California, etc.

  • try pennslyvannia its cheap but might be hard to find job u can work gas station or amusement parks there many like dorney park its really fun there
  • How much is it really going to cost to go to NY for a night?|121931

I live in RI and plan on going to NY with a bunch of people for our friend_s 30th birthday tomorrow- I_m splitting the gas with one person and will have to find an over night parking on the east side. Dinner should be about $50 and it usually costs $50 to fill my tank (which is currently 3/4 full and has about 231 miles before I have to refill.) Also I_m spending the night at a friend_s apartment for free. My parents are saying that its going to cost over $200 but I really don_t think it will... Whose right?

  • There_s plenty of free overnight parking in the streets of NYC but a word of caution...it_s common that cars with out-of-state plates get broken into...but that_s probably because the owners don_t know any better and leave stuff out in the open. If you don_t have anything worth stealing in the car, then it should be safe to park the car in the street. If you decide to do street parking, MAKE SURE YOU READ THE STREET SIGNS CAREFULLY!!! Sometimes they are tricky and you could end up parking at a Tow-Zone after 1AM and find out the next morning that your car is gone. Paying the parking ticket and getting it out of the tow pound is gonna cost you well over $200.00.

Dinner is tricky. You know how some people like to order the most expensive dish on the menu and order more than 1-2 drinks when they know the bill is going to be split evenly amongst the guests. They_ll make out like a bandit while everyone else ends up footing his/her bill as well as the birthday boy/girl_s dinner. Well...that_s how some of my friends are. =) If you add a bottle of wine too, watch out...that_ll pump up the bill considerably. Dinner could definitely go way over your $50.00 limit so be prepared.

I_m not familiar with the amount of tolls it_s going to take to get to NYC from RI. Have you factored in that amount on your under $200 budget?

Your friend probably knows NYC better than me...where do you go to watch a free show?!? =) Unless you_re talking about a bar or a club with a performer which also may or may not have a cover charge.

Good luck with your road trip and get to NYC safely!

  • If you avoid the Connecticut Tpke, and take 84/684 down from Brewster, you_ll avoid almost all tolls. You know what mileage your car gets, but gas in NYC now starts at about $3.19/gallon.
Your dinner price seems about right, and if you can crash for free, I don_t see running as high as $200, even allowing for breakfast and a meal on the road. It_s that free show I_m wondering about.
Oh, and be very careful about where you park. NYC has a nasty habit of towing cars, and you have to pay a towing and storage fee as well as the ticket before they let you have your car back.

  • that is a tricky question... it is NYC, it could cost alot or nothing more than the cost to get there.. you can park your car in the city on the weekend for well under $30, heck, ask your friend where the free parking is! .. if you don_t intend to drink or go to a club where you have to pay to get in... and not including the costs you already mentioned.. figure another 50-60 bucks... for parking and brunch the next day..

my guess.. total cost is slightly under 200

    good luck!

  • If you are talking about NYC.
It all depends on were you eat, they have cheap restaurants, and expensive ones, and if you do any shopping, or club hopping.
I just got back from NYC, and I did not spend allot of money.

  • depends what city

  • If your going to have to find over night parking, that_s going to cost a bit depending on the area. 24 hour parking can range anywhere from $25-50. I lived on the upper east side on 75th and there were about 4 parking decks located on that street and they all varied in price. I took 95 on down into Manhattan once and it cost me about $6 for toll. If you don_t plan on doing anything else, then it shouldn_t cost any where near $200, but don_t forget to factor in cost of taxi or sub.
  • What historical things are there to see near Mesa Arizona?|191727

I_m going to a place called Sun Lakes Arizona for a week in November. I googled it and it_s near Mesa Arizona. I would like to know what historical monuments or wonders of the world are in that Area. I plan to drive 3 hours (I think?) to the Grand Canyon. Is there anything else I should definately see? Thanks!

  • Sun Lakes is on the southern edge of the larger Phoenix metro area. It is closer to the towns of Chandler, Gilbert and Tempe then Mesa (although Mesa is not that far away either).

Before listing some of the historical and natural attractions in the Phoenix area, I should note that from Sun Lakes, it will actually be about a 4.5 to 5 hour drive to the Grand Canyon (because you are starting from the opposite side of Phoenix). And that is assuming you don_t leave around rush hour.

As the poster above mentions, there is a large historic Mormon temple in Mesa (Mesa was largely founded by Mormons) which is worth checking out. Mesa also has an old historic downtown area with turn of the century buildings.

In downtown Phoenix, the famous Heard Museum is considered one of the nation_s best museums for Native American arts and history. The Phoenix Museum of History is nearby and not too far away (near the Zoo in Papago Park) is the Arizona Historical Society Museum.

Being in Sun Lakes, you will be fairly close to the large prehistoric Hohokam ruins at Casa Grande National Monument (near the town of Casa Grande) which is pretty impressive.

A little to the east of Phoenix are the beautiful Superstition Mountains that are said to be the location of Lost Dutchman Goldmine. There is a interesting (if winding) called the Apache Trail (AZ88) that runs between the mountains and the lakes of the Salt River. Near the start of the road (at Apache Junction) is the Goldfield _Ghost Town_ which is really more of a tourist attraction than a real historic site, but it can be kinda fun.

On your way from Phoenix up the Grand Canyon, you could stop at Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon (famous for its red rocks and expensive resorts). There is also the interesting prehistoric ruins just off the highway at Montezuma Castle National Monument. And if you are into historic sites, you might like Jerome - a historic turn of the century mining town with lots of historic buildings - which is perched on the side of Mingus Mountain a little off the main route to the canyon.

To be honest, while Phoenix has lots of resorts, malls, golf courses and movie theaters (like you would find in any big city), it really does not have that many special attractions (historic or otherwise) that are unique to Phoenix and most of the older historic sections have long since been bulldozed and built over. Most of the more interesting historic and natural attractions are a ways outside the city.

  • There is a beautiful temple in Mesa Arizona, there is also a desert national park and some spectacular desert scenery.

How long is the drive from San Diego to Burbank?|188465

My family and I will be visiting San Diego around Thanksgiving. We decided to book a Warner Brothers Tour in Burbank and we must be there by 10 am on a Tuesday morning. What time should we leave our hotel in Old Town, San Diego. Any recommended routes?

  • It is about 135 miles more or less. At time traffic can be very bad in Burbank. It would be best to allow plenty of time, more than enough. If it were I, I would allow 4 hours just to make sure; but I am a pessimist. One time on a Sunday no less I got stuck on the Ventura Freeway north of LA and did not move for an hour. I finally got off at the first exit I came to. It was terrible.
Just head up I-5 until you get to Burbank. Take 134 west to exit 3 then to W. Riverside Dr. heading west. It is about 1 mile down Riverside after the exit.

  • Traffic along that I-5 corridor is highly unpredictable. I would recommend taking commuter rail between San Diego _ Burbank, the ride is nice, the service dependable and the fares reasonable. Start by taking a Coaster rail line from Old Town Station to Oceanside for $5, then take a Metrolink train to LA union Station for about $11 and then another Metrolink directly to Burbank station for about $4, a short distance to the warner Brothers Studio. Additionally, for a bit more cost Amtrak offers direct service between San Diego _ Burbank on their Pacific Surfliner Train. Good Luck!

  • It_s a pretty straightforward drive.

2 hours up Interstate 5 and then another 4 miles on the 134.

With that area and traffic on a weekday morning, I_d leave AT LEAST 3 hours beforehand. That_ll give you time for traffic, parking, and in case you get lost.

  • It_s about 131 miles drive. If you have to be there in the morning you should be prepared to see major traffic. According to google maps the ride takes 2hrs 7 minutes, and 3hrs 10 minutes in traffic.

  • 6 AM
  • How bad is traffic going into las vegas from LA on new years eve?|188946

I get off work in la at about 8ish and I_m hoping if i book it i can make it there before 12. Anyone know REALISTICALLY how bad the traffic is?

  • The traffic may be a little worse than normal (you might just make it).
But also remember the traffic will be bad when you GET to Vegas because the strip will be blocked off/closed.

The hotels however require a two night minimum stay from 12/30 -01/01 so you will probably miss the major rush from Los Angeles by a day.

    GOOD LUCK!!!

  • I just came home from las vegas
I leave at 6 in the morning and their is some traffic every one wants to go to las vegas and plus it takes 6 hours to get their.i usuallty leave at midnight and get their at 5 o_clock [cause theirs no traffic in the early hours].
But call the casino ASAP to make sure their is a room for you.
i book my casino 2 months before i go.

  • Traffic should not be a problem that late in the evening heading to Vegas. You will miss most of the LA rush hour traffic and once you get to San Bernardino, it_s smooth sailing from there on. Most people that are making that trip will be leaving LA at noon.

    http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com

  • Traffic will be bad. but with all the highway patrol out, you may not make it in 4hrs, traffic in here is bumper to bumper and some streets may be closed. good luck..

  • It will still be hard for you to make it in four hours as highway partol will be out in force.

I want to plan a vacation where I can surround myself in nature and do some hiking and sightseeing?|170597

My question is we want to go to Colorado, but not sure where. Or if someone could advice me to a more beautiful state then that and please be more specific with city names?

  • Wind River Range near Dubois Wy.

I would suggest The The Wind River Range (or _Winds_ for short), is a mountain range of the Rocky Mountains in western Wyoming in the United States. The range runs roughly NW-SE for approximately 100 miles The Continental Divide follows the crest of the range and includes Gannett Peak, which at 13,804 feet (4,207 m), is the highest peak in Wyoming. There are more than 40 other named peaks in excess of 13,000 feet Two large National Forests including three wilderness areas encompass most of the mountain range. Shoshone National Forest is on the eastern side of the continental divide while Bridger-Teton National Forest is on the west. Both National Forests and the entire mountain range are an integral part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

Green River Lakes to Summit Lake Pinedale Wyoming

: A multi-day, adventurous backpacking trip into the rocky headwaters of the Green River, located approximately 50 miles north of Pinedale, in the northern section of the Bridger Wilderness. The area offers breath-taking country that promotional bureaus photograph for their _Visit Wild Wyoming_ brochures and wild vistas of the Gannett Peak area.

    The Sawtooth Range Idaho

The Sawtooth Range is part of the Rocky Mountains, located within a few miles of Stanley, Idaho in the Western United States. The mountains encompass an area of 678 square miles (1,756 km2) and the two highest peaks in the Sawtooths are the 10,751-foot Thompson Peak and the 10,716-foot Mount Cramer.

  • Visit one of the national parks. I went to Glacier National Park in Montana (gateway is Kalispell, Mt.) last summer. Hiked every day several hours and the scenery is breath taking. In Colorado go to Rocky mountain National park. Denver,CO Many hiking trails at the parks and you can chose the level of difficulty you are comfortable with. Visit any of the of the web sites for information. Have fun.

  • Colorado is always a good choice. If you go that route, I would rent a car and visit a few areas. That is the beauty of traveling out that way. The drive, checking out the scenery, is a great part of the trip. One trip I did was Crested Butte to Telluride (with stops along the way) ... both beautiful areas with plenty of hiking.
Ouray is one of my favorite areas.

My home base is Jackson Hole. Maybe I am prejudice ... but this is hands down the most beautiful place I have ever been to. Teton National Park is right outside of Jackson. Stay in Jackson a few days, Yellowstone south entrance is an 1 1/2 hours away and you can even go up to Montana Gallatin River, Bozeman and Big Sky area if you want to see even more.

Third trip idea (South of SLC)... Utah. Bryce, Zion and Arches National Park ... unique to each other ... great hiking. On that trip ... check out the towns of Moab and Park City (only 1/2 hour out of Salt Lake).

Endless beauty in any of these areas!

  • i live in Vermont this a gergeous state nature wise email if u want. Yellowstone in montana/wyoming is also awesome.
  • How can I go about researching my neighborhood?|194677

Found what seems to be a great home in Decatur, GA. I just wanted to know of any online sites where I can research my subdivision or neighborhood. Also, my landlord goes through a property management service so I have no contact with him/her, is there a site online I can go to and research my specific address to bring up recent closings, ect?

  • Check out the Decatur Police Dept. They may have district or precinct stats on crime.
Next the county Assessor_s Web site. Some record all sales transactions for tax purposes.
If this home is strictly a rental the Sheriff_s office or City Constable may have eviction records.

  • The newspaper www.ajc.com has a section on recent home sales by zip code. You may want to also drive the neighborhood, walk the neighborhood, go to a park nearby talk to the neighbors who are out. ask questions. Make sure you drive the neighborhood at night, and on a warm weekend evening. See what is going on. If school was in, I would suggest driving by when the school bus lets the kids off, that way you can see how many families w/ children live in the area. There are plenty of things you can find out just by driving around.

My sister and I are planning on going to Chicago for the week of the fourth of July. What are some fun, interesting, and relatively inexpensive places to go? If you_re going to make some suggestions, keep in mind that my sister and I are 18 and 25, respectively. That puts some limits on what we can do.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :]

Hotels are in abundance, your good if you stay in the loop area generally.

  • I stayed at the Chicago inn, great downtown location, and under $100 a night,

Walking distance, Sears Tower, Navy Pier, Grand Lux for dinner or lunch. Lots of shopping near by, Chicago is one of my favorite places to visit, and with transit, you can go see a cubs or sox game.

There are lots of museums to see as well, I am not away myself of any off broadway places, but we went to a piano bar on Michigan ave that was great

  • You have to go to Taste of Chicago! This is held in Grant Park from June 26 to July 5. It_s free admission. This is where 300 local restaurants set up booths and offer _tastes_ from their menu. You buy tickets at the park and they are used to buy the food. $20 worth of tickets should be enough to enjoy a few different restaurants.

Navy Pier is also a nice place to go. There are many options like taking a cruise on the lake, riding the ferris wheel, or eating at one of the restaurants.

If you want anymore info, please feel free to email me (phenom74@yahoo). I had moved here from Southern California a couple years ago and I feel Chicago is the best place to be in the summertime.

  • If you are into Blues and rock music check out Chess Records. The studio / record label which the movie Cadillac Records was based off is in Chicago. They have boat tours that go through Chicago that start at Navy Pier. Obviously you have to go up the Sears Tower and you also have to get some deep dish pizza. I didn_t notice too many crack heads in any of theses areas!

  • Umm did you say crack heads? You associate Chicago with crack heads? I kinda take offense to that but anyway I_ll still help you out. Go to www.metromix.com and click on Chicago. This website has everything. You_ll find the hotest of everything chicago has to offer. I use it a lot to find fun things to do and plan special days.

  • I would suggest Kuma_s Corner its a burger and bar with rock music, go there for lunch it does get crowded at night. They have awesome burgers and different beers from the norm to try. It_s on belmonet.

    here_s the site.

I am chaperoning a group of teenage girls on a bus to NYC to see Cirque du Soleil at Madison Square Garden, and we are getting dropped off in Times Square. We plan on eating at ESPN Zone. What is there to do around these two areas? Which major stores/sights would you recommend going to (Most of the girls have been there before and have seen Toys R Us, Macy_s, Radio City Music Hall, and the square itself) that are in walking distance of these areas?

How to convince my parents to let me go to Disney world for my birthday.?|196467

I need help! I already pulled the whole _It_ll bring the family together_ and _It_ll be less expensive than Atlantis_ [that_s where we went last year]. But I want to bring my friend Jake with me. And I need more ways to convince her to let the family go for a week.

  • Hi! Well just to let you know, since it_s your birthday, you can get in for free!! Also, if you have other celebrations such as graduation, anniversaries etc, Disney will work with you to either to get in for free or deduct the price of your visit!!
I_m a HUGE disney freak and when I found out about that I went nuts!! I_m trying to go next year on my birthday!!

  • Bobbart, your parents may not be saying, _No_ just because they do not want to go. I know I_m always ready to go to Disney World!

Perhaps with all the economic turmoil right now they are trying to do the wise thing and save their money right now. Rather than trying to figure out how manipulate them through guilt or something else, consider that they actually want the best for you and try actually talking to them about why it_s a good/bad idea. If nothing else, they should respect your mature approach to the situation.

Perhaps you could figure out some ways to either help save money or to earn money to show them how much you really want to go.

  • Hi Jake -
I think you need to understand why your parents aren_t jumping on your bandwagon. What do they object to?

How far from Disney World do you live? Is there an air flight involved? Are you expecting your parents to pay to take Jake along? Would that be more than the family can afford to pay?

If this is the problem - what are you willing to do to help out? Can you earn some money from chores or a job to pay a portion of the expenses? Can Jake or his parents pay his share?

How well do your parents know Jake? Are they concerned that he might get into trouble? If so - what can you do to help them feel more comfortable about taking Jake along? Maybe - bring him by to let them get to know him better.

Does going for a week at your birthday mean missing school? If this is the concern - what can you do to assure your parents that you_ll stay on top of your studies and won_t let your grades slide?

Quit bugging your parents with what you want to do and try to understand where they_re coming from. Maybe then you can negotiate a deal that will work for all of you. (If not this year - then next year.)

  • In 2009, you can get her a FREE ticket on your birthday. Anyone who visits one of the Theme Parks at the Walt Disney World? Resort in Florida or Disneyland? Resort in California on their birthday in 2009 can get in free. All you have to do is register everyone_s birthday at disneybirthdaytreat.com.

Now if you already purchased a vacation package that includes a multi-day ticket that youll use on your birthday, you can choose one of the following birthday treats instead:

A birthday fun card in an amount equal to the price of a Walt Disney World Resort 1-Day Magic Your Way Base Ticket** or a Disneyland Resort 1-Day/1-Park Ticket** for them to use on their birthday for merchandise, recreation or fun activities, as applicable, at select participating locations at the Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort; or

A special birthday FASTPASS badge*** for certain attractions at the Theme Park they visit on their birthday; or

A Walt Disney World Resort 1-Day Magic Your Way Base Ticket* or a Disneyland Resort 1-Day/1-Park Ticket for them to use any time until their next birthday.

Regarding rooms....there is such a variety of resorts that can accomodate all different budgets. Depending on when you plan to travel, you can get a Value room under $100 a night to a Moderate to just a little over $100 night. You wouldn_t need car rental because staying on the property you get free Disney transportation to and from the parks and the Airport!!!! Food wise...there are times of the year that offer Free Dining Discounts....if you go then all of you eat for free (1 Counter Service Meal _ 1 Sit Down Dinner _ 1 snack) per person per day. There are many options you can do this inexpensively. A little research and planning will help you convince them!

Hope that helps a bit! If you need anymore info...ask away!

    Hope that helps a bit!

  • How about using the fact that next year, Disney World will let you into the park for free on your birthday...could save them money on tickets. :)

  • Maybe let them know that Disney_s now letting you in for free on your birthday!
  • What is the general political stance in Brookings, Oregon?|106685

So here_s the deal, my wife and I are both self proclaimed hippies and we_re thinking of moving to Brookings. Oregon is known for it_s liberalism and welcome attitude towards hippies, but sadly that is usually only the case in the bigger cities like Portland and Eugene and some small, unincorporated towns scattered across the state. So what we would like to know is what the general attitude towards people like us is in Brookings. Is it more conservative or liberal? Any insight would be appreciated.

  • Well, I grew up in Brookings... Its a beautiful town and I am happy I grew up there, though I don_t want to move back at this time.
You will find both ends of the spectrum in Brookings both conservatives and librals, though I think you will see you would be welcome. As you may be already aware, Brookings has a large population of elderly and retired. They like Brookings because of its mild climate. I believe it is accurate to say much of the conservatism would be with the elderly, though I don_t think they would outright protest or even comment on you considering moving to their town.
Have you been to visit Brookings or did you just read about it on the internet? Keep in mind that like everywhere else in the nation, Brookings has been hit by the economy. Then again, they say that will pick up again by the end of the year.
I hope this helps a bit.
If you haven_t visited, I recommend you go there. People will be people, but Brookings is a decent town.
  • Where is the sunniest place in Hawaii to live?|104595

I am planning a move, in the next year or so and I have been hearing a lot about how different the weather can be from one island to the next and even from one side of an island or another. I am not a big fan of rain and would really like a sunnier place to live. What parts of what islands are sunny most of the time. I was thinking I wanted to move to Kailua Kona but I am unsure if the weather will be right for me.

  • The southern _ western shores of each island will have the sunniest weather. They are the leeward parts of the islands. The north _ east sides are the windward sides _ are more likely to be wet. The prevailing trade winds blow the clouds into the mountains at the center of the island. They get hung up there _ consequently much of the rain falls on the windward sides.

One caution regarding Kona... it is the area that is most likely to have vog (volcanic haze). Sometimes it is not a problem, but this year there has been an unusual amount of vog, resulting from the volcanic activity on the Big Island. If you have asthma, this could be an important consideration.

  • The clue_s right in the name. Kona means _leeward_, which means in the rainshadow of a mountain. The predominant weather pattern in these islands involves trade winds or _trades_ blowing from the northeast. Places on the leeward side of the mountains get blocked from both the cooling breezes and the rains. That makes it hot and dry in Kaunakakai, Molokai; Poipu, Kauai; Honolulu and Nanakuli, Oahu; Kihei and Lahaina, Maui; and Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

On the other hand, Kailua, Oahu is on the windward side of the island, gets plenty of rain, is lush and green, cool, with beautiful waterfalls. Same with Hilo, Hana, Hanalei, and Molokai_s Halawa Valley.

Kailua-Kona has just about the most predictable weather in the world. Up the slope, the coffee plantations get plenty of moisture (windward and mauka showers), but down at the beach, it_s almost always dry. Kona storms in the wintertime can bring moist air up from equitorial regions and just dump rain all over the islands for days. But the in the summertime, you might go for months in a leeward area and only see a few hundredths of an inch of precipitation.

Having lived in just such a place for four years, I was pretty happy to move up a slope to a place where I could catch a breeze and a raindrop now and again. Still get plenty sun!

  • Your plan to move should be planned very carefully and not based only on how the weather is going to be. There are a lot of factors to consider before you make your move. If money is no object than by all means bring it to Hawaii. The Diamond Head and Kahala area has the best of the two worlds. Cool breezes, nice beaches, lots of sunshine and very convenient to restaurannts, entertainment, golf, and parks.
    Aloha

  • Most people like living towards the windward side of the island. Kona is leeward like the guy said, but unusually green unlike Oahu_s leeward side which is tends towards being dry.

You want to watch the sun rise or set?

On Oahu, the new area out toward Ewa, Kapolei might be what you are looking for, but I know very little bit about it. It was built after my time although I was raised in Maili, Waianae and Makaha when I was child.

Sunny, you can always jump in your car and chase after the sun in Hawaii.

    WE CHASED THE SUN
    Sunset Cliffs

    We chased the sun
    With the Datsun.

    Rains fell Leeward.
    We flew Windward.

    Clouds dropped Windward.
    We drove Leeward.

    Our sun shade
    Tracked its Sunmaid.

    The road lifted.
    The steam drifted.

    The hanging rain
    Trailed the octane.

    Ponds marked the gold.
    Our eyes rolled.

    Wind freed passions
    Pushed pulsations.

    Wet oil bead drips
    Held the cloth strips.

    Casts stained the sand
    Where bodies tanned.

    Then, you said _Bye_.
    I don_t know why,

    The sun gods fell;
    I fell as well.

    We chased the sun
    With the Datsun.

  • if you want a really sunny place to live, then come here to Ewa. Ewa is on the south of Oahu, its very flat here, and very dry. when its raining in Honolulu, by the time the clouds drift over Ewa, they_re usually as white as cotton and spread out so that you can still see the blue sky.

whenever it does rain, its mostly during winter and the beginning of spring. usually its not a lot. (it was raining this morning, but by 10am the sun was shining).

ofcourse.. during the rainy season it can sometimes get a little out of hand. a year before my family moved to Ewa there was a flood that came up to peoples knees. when my family moved in, i could still see mildew on the houses marking how high the water was. [but the flood happened because there wasnt a very good drainage system at the time.]

then when i was in middle school, there was the 40 days and 40 nights of non stop rain throughout the whole state. [it was miserable.. my family could only take cold showers because our water heater was solar powered]

recently the weather has been very dry. so if you move here, i think you_ll be fine.

    hope this helped.
  • What is the best possible transportation from LaGuardia airport to Newark airport at night ?|107752

My flight will reach at LaGuardia airport at 10:35 PM on Friday. I have hotel booked near Newark airport. Need to go to Newark airport with my kid and wife that night. Again next two days i will be in NY to visit places in NY. Please suggest me the best way to reach Newark airport from LaGuardian airport on that night. Please give the details if possible. Please think the cost effectiveness also.

  • If you don_t want to deal with waiting for public buses, you should probably just pay for a taxi or shared van like SuperShuttle to take you to NY Penn Station. From Penn Station you can take the NJ Transit AirTrain to Newark Airport (the last train is usually about 1:40 am).

  • Check Links below, you may need 2 shuttles, lga to city, then a shuttle to nwk hotel, time of day is off peak, less travelers.
might be cheaper _ quicker to rent a car with a drop off, the drive at that timeof night should be less than 1hr, as long as ther AINT no stupid NYC traffic mishaps.
good luck _ have a great visit.
    Lots to see and dew.
Try top of the 666_s also now know as TOP OF THE ROCK
better than the empire state bldg.

  • Before any of us answer take the time to answer this question, you need to know that regardless of the routing offered there will be many flights of stairs to negotiate . If that_s OK use addditional details to say so.

  • Cancel the Newark Hotel and get a hotel next to LaGuardia - its not any more expensive and will save you LOADS of aggravation and time.
  • What is there to do in Chicago with a toddler?|191519

I am going to Chicago for Thanksgiving and I am taking my 22 month old daughter. I am looking for things to do that is not extremely expenisve but fun and interesting for her. Please someone help me figure this out.

  • There_s the Thanksgiving Day parade down State Street, which is free (once you get downtown) and has big balloons and everything else you_d expect from a big parade.

    http://www.chicagofestivals.org/

There_s Navy Pier, home of the Chicago Children_s museum, among other attractions. The Pier is expensive to park at, but not expensive to get to by bus or better yet the city_s free trolleys.

    http://kid-friendly-travel-destinations.

    http://www.chicagochildrensmuseum.org/

The three best museums to consider are (and all are free for your daughter)
    1) The Notebaert Nature Museum, in Lincoln Park, which has a year round butterfly haven with hatchings every day, that may interest a toddler; it_ll certainly interest you, which may generate interest in your child. $9 for you.

    http://www.naturemuseum.org/

    2) The Shedd Aquarium: Look! colorful fish! Now the Shedd is very pricey, but if you decide you don_t care about seeing whales and dolphins, then you can substantially cut the cost of the Shedd. The cheapest admit, to the older building only, costs just $8 for you. The full pass costs $27.50 for you.

    http://www.sheddaquarium.org/index.html

    3) The Museum of Science and Industry, which has a baby chick hatchery that appeals to kids of all ages. The Jollyball machine also may catch your child_s attention (It_s a huge wild homemade _pinball_ machine...in which a ball travels through Switzerland...much cooler in person than the description. There_s also lots of stuff (trains, airplanes, farm equipment) that kids can climb in and on. $11 for you, plus $12 for the car (there is CTA service from downtown).

    http://www.msichicago.org

And then there are the Macy_s (Formerly Field_s) holiday windows at the massive store on State at Washington, which this year have a nutcracker theme. Free, unless you obey the siren song of the department store and walk in. :)

I_d recommend some children_s theater if you child were a year older, but a 22-month old won_t likely get much out of that.
  • What are the best cities to visit, in California?|169818

I need a nice vacation city less than a 4 hour drive from Sacramento!!!! It needs to also be good for kids and have a beach.

  • Monterey and Carmel are fabulous, and around 3 hours from you. Great for the whole family, and dreamy. If you feel like you have a couple more hours of driving in you, Santa Barbara is nothing short of paradise.

What is the best way to get into DC for the inauguration?|180603

I plan on coming in to DC tuesday morning from Staunton Virginia (Where I81 _ I64 split). I haven_t been to DC in many years and am not sure where would be the best place to leave my truck and get on the metro? I assume that the farther away from the city I park the better. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Arrive at the Vienna Metro station (right off I-66) as early after it opens at 3:30am as possible, and get a parking spot in their parking deck. Expect traffic to be backed up, even at that hour, since I-66 within the Beltway will be closed as of 3am. When the first train pulls out at 4:00am be on it. Take Metro down to Washington Union Station (you_ll have to change at Metro Center for a Red line train--the whole Metro trip will probably take an hour) and hang out in their food court until the sun comes up. Start walking to the National Mall or the parade route sometime during the morning and grab a spot.

I know the above is extreme, and it might be possible to get a parking spot a little later, but there will be millions of visitors with the same idea as you, and the parking spots will go very, very quickly. Tune your car radio to WTOP 103.5FM when you get to Front Royal for regular traffic updates.

By the way, if you have a smaller vehicle than the truck, take that instead--it will be easier to find a parking spot with a smaller vehicle.

Be aware that getting back on Metro will be an even bigger challenge--it_s expected that Metro, even running every piece of equipment they have, will take many hours to get everyone out of DC back to where they started. Also expect a coldish day, with temperatures in the low 30s.

Here_s a link to the Metro website, which will show you how to get around on Metro:

    http://www.wmata.com

And yes I know where Staunton is--it_s a beautiful town with a lot to see and do. I_ve seen plays in the theater and eaten at the Depot Grille.

  • There won_t be an easy way. The farthest Metro rail stops are in Springfield and Huntington and they are both right at the Beltway so there_s no way of avoiding the prodigious traffic. If you could take a train out of Richmond, you could get into the Alexandria train station which is right next to King Street or Eisenhower Station in Alexandria. That would be the best way if you could get a train ticket. I think there is park _n ride as far down as Dumfries, VA and they may be running special buses so you might get onto the Metro website and check.
    http://www.wmata.com

  • You are right to take the Metro to the inauguration. I,ve done that whenever there_s a big event in D.C. If you_re near the Orange Line. then Vienna Station may be your best bet. Or possibly Franconia-Springfield stop on the Blue Line. Visit the Washington Metro transit website at www.wmata.com for specific information on metro rail trains and where to park. I think there is a charge of close to five dollars to park at any metro rail park and ride lot. Again, check the website for details. Good luck. You may want to use mapquest or any map source for directions from Staunton to Washington, DC.

  • What were the main cause of New Orleans flooding?|103904

I know one of the main causes was the levees breaking, but that can_t be the only one.

Can someone please help me and list the main cause New Orleans was destroyed.

  • Katrina would have been a catastrophe even if New Orleans_ city-proper had not flooded. Realize the storm wrecked an area of almost 90000 square miles, which is larger than all of Great Britain. Much of the Mississippi coast still looks like Hiroshima after the atomic bomb.

However, the city-proper flooded because the US Army Corps of Engineers built poorly-designed flood-walls along drainage canals connected to Lake Pontchartrain. The walls failed at the height of the storm surge, with water levels almost 13 feet above sea level. That is what caused the horrific scenes you saw on TV, with people trapped on their roofs, etc.

In February of 2008, a federal judge agreed the city flooded due to negligence by the federal government (the US Army Corps of Engineers is a federal agency). However, he also ruled the federal government has immunity from liability for negligence.

  • Hurricane Katrina of the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season was the costliest hurricane, as well as one of the five deadliest, in the history of the United States.[3] Among recorded Atlantic hurricanes, it was the sixth strongest overall. Hurricane Katrina formed over the Bahamas on August 23, 2005, and crossed southern Florida as a moderate Category 1 hurricane, causing some deaths and flooding there before strengthening rapidly in the Gulf of Mexico. The storm weakened before making its second landfall as a Category 3 storm on the morning of Monday, August 29 in southeast Louisiana. It caused severe destruction along the Gulf coast from central Florida to Texas, much of it due to the storm surge. The most severe loss of life and property damage occurred in New Orleans, Louisiana, which flooded as the levee system catastrophically failed, in many cases hours after the storm had moved inland.[4] The federal flood protection system in New Orleans failed at more than fifty places. Nearly every levee in metro New Orleans was breached as Hurricane Katrina passed just east of the city limits. Eventually 80% of the city became flooded and also large tracts of neighboring parishes, and the floodwaters lingered for weeks.[4] At least 1,836 people lost their lives in the actual hurricane and in the subsequent floods, making it the deadliest U.S. hurricane since the 1928 Okeechobee Hurricane. Economist and Crisis Consultant Randall Bell, brought into the area after the levee failures, writes in his book, Real Estate Damages, _Hurricane Katrina in 2005 was the largest natural disaster in the history of the United States. Preliminary damage estimates were well in excess of $100 billion, eclipsing many times the damage wrought by Hurricane Andrew in 1992.[5]_ The storm is estimated to have been the costliest tropical cyclone in U.S. history.

The levee failures prompted investigations of their design and construction which belongs solely to the US Army Corps of Engineers as mandated in the Flood Control Act of 1965. There was also an investigation of the responses from federal, state and local governments, resulting in the resignation of Federal Emergency Management Agency director Michael D. Brown. Conversely, the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service were widely commended for accurate forecasts and abundant lead time.[6] Three years later, thousands of displaced residents in Mississippi and Louisiana were still living in trailers.
As the eye of Hurricane Katrina swept to the northeast, it subjected the city to hurricane conditions for hours. Although power failures prevented accurate measurement of wind speeds in New Orleans, there were a few measurements of hurricane-force winds. From this the NHC concluded that it is likely that much of the city experienced sustained winds of Category 1 or Category 2 strength.

Katrina_s storm surge led to 53 levee breaches in the federally built levee system protecting metro New Orleans. Failures occurred in New Orleans and surrounding communities, especially St. Bernard Parish. The Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (MR-GO) breached its levees in approximately 20 places, flooding much of east New Orleans, most of Saint Bernard Parish and the East Bank of Plaquemines Parish. The major levee breaches in the city included breaches at the 17th Street Canal levee, the London Avenue Canal, and the wide, navigable Industrial Canal, which left approximately 80% of the city flooded.[39]

Most of the major roads traveling into and out of the city were damaged. The only routes out of the city were the westbound Crescent City Connection and the Huey P. Long Bridge, as large portions of the I-10 Twin Span Bridge traveling eastbound towards Slidell, Louisiana had collapsed. Both the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway and the Crescent City Connection only carried emergency traffic.[40]

On August 29, at 7:40 a.m. CDT, it was reported that most of the windows on the north side of the Hyatt Regency New Orleans had been blown out, and many other high rise buildings had extensive window damage.[41] The Hyatt was the most severely damaged hotel in the city, with beds reported to be flying out of the windows. Insulation tubes were exposed as the hotel_s glass exterior was completely sheared off.
The Superdome, which was sheltering many people who had not evacuated, sustained significant damage. Two sections of the Superdome_s roof were compromised and the dome_s waterproof membrane had essentially been peeled off. Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport was closed before the storm but did not flood. On August 30, it was reopened to humanitarian and rescue operations. Limited commercial passenger service resumed at the airport on September 13 and regular carrier operations resumed in early October.[43]

Levee breaches in New Orleans also caused widespread loss of life, with over 700 bodies recovered in New Orleans by October 23, 2005.[44] Some survivors and evacuees reported seei

  • erm because of the hurracaine? :P
that would be the main reason i_d have thought...the reason behind everything else happening would have been because of the destruction caused from the hurricane katrina...

  • since New Orleans is below sea level, they use a system of levees and canals to control the water. when the levees broke, New Orleans flooded

  • Because New Orleans is below sea level.

  • A levy breach and human error, not the storm.

  • George Bush, according to the residents.
  • Who has highest crime rate New York or Los Angeles?|172488

I have been in Manhattan by foot. Nobody bothered me and I didn_t run into any scary situations. I was planning a trip to Los Angeles, I got a tour book and Los Angeles seems frightening. I know people from the east coast who have live in California and say that Los Angeles is nothing compared to New York. Which place has the highest crime rate?

  • The murder rate in LA (12.6) is about double that of NYC (6.6)

When you look at the crime chart, you should realize the population of NYC is about double that of LA.

  • I have lived in L.A. my whole life and I was never scared. Just make sure to have a map if you are driving yourself around. Like anyplace there are Ghetto_s in LA. Not to worry it isn_t at all like the movies. It is a great place to be year round sun and beaches.

  • Los Angeles by FAR!!!!!!!
LA is WAY worse than NY.

hi, i am thinking about moving and im not sure where i wanna go. right now i am finishing up student teaching and i graduate in may. i would like to move, and i am thinking to vermont. the thing is, i have never been there and have absolutely no clue what it is like there. is it countryish?? city? suburbs?? i grew up in the city of pittsburgh and now i am living in the south western part of pgh which is in the suburbs, but close to the country. do you think i would like it? how is the year round weather? i am also going to need to find a job as a high school history teacher - any luck there? please let me know as much as possible about vermont.

any tips? living costs (high??) pgh is pretty decent price wise - i wanted to go to nyc but its too expensive. any areas that are nicer than others?

  • Vermont is pretty much all rural, unless you live in one of our three cities. The weather is Vermont is nice, if you are a fan of snow and skiing. I personally like Vermont because of its rural nature. I think that the cost of living in Vermont is pretty decent, winter heating can be expensive, but rent isn_t nearly as bad as it is in the big cities. I know it might sound cliche, but there are a lot of cows and farms in the really rural parts of VT. I guess I would say that Vermont is a nice place to live, but I can imagine that it could be alittle lonely at first if you didn_t know anyone up here.

  • You live in Vermount.

  • I visited Vermont, not too long ago. It_s pretty boring: gray skies, and extremely cold. I went to Burlington (the most popular city in Vermont), and I think some of the pros would have to be the peace _ quiet, and the fact that it_s a 1 and a half hour drive until Montreal. Let_s just say I was so bored I left on the next flight to New York City.

  • well first of all, both of you need to become citizens if you are going to live here. You can_t just visit for a long time.

I am visiting there on during the week of July 4th with my husband and 17 month old son. There_s only so much family time we can take before we have to escape and do something a bit more fun! So far, I_ve founds a zoo that we can take our son to, and a white water rafting trip my husband and I can take. Also, a winery that might have a tour available. Anything else?

  • There are some Amish things in the area, that are touristy, but give you a picture of life in that area.

  • There_s always bowling. An excellent lane is Jordan Lane on Rt 145 just south of Rt 22 (If you_re travelling south, make a right by Dunkin Doughnuts) You can_t miss it.
There_s also whitewater rafting on Rt 903 in Jim Thorpe or antique shops and train rides in town on the weekend.

  • Here_ s what I do. Look in the local newspapers for a block party, usually for a good cause like a volunteer fire co. , and you will have tons of fun. Great to take kids too. Also, post this question or search at the website below.

  • I grew up in Easton and when i lived there, there was a celebration downtown for the 4th called Heritage week with all kinds of things going on and a very good fireworks display. The Crayola Visitors center is downtown and a mile from Lafayette University with is beautiful. Bethlehem itself is kinda blah (except at the end of August for Musikfest) but Allentown always has stuff going on--- check the city website.

  • Other than normal tourist type things can be jogging in the swimming pool, racing along with the trains, swimming in shallow rainy water, dancing with animals.

  • Dorney Park and Wild Water kingdom is a amusment park in nearby Allentown, Pa. The Crayola Crayon factory is next door in Easton, PA. Bewarned that that areas arround Bethelhem _ Easton are having some flooding issues due to this weeks heavy rains. Philly is about a hour south but crowded for the 4th.

  • I live in the Slate Belt area and work in Allentown. My kids grew up in the whole area and there_s plenty to do. I think the Heritage Festival may be canceled, due to the flooding, check the local papers.

But, here is a web site about the lehigh valley http://www.lehighvalleypa.org/ Also, one about the lehigh valley wine trail. Many of the local wineries will let you taste, very informal. Check out http://www.lehighvalleywinetrail.com/

I almost forgot about the Kutztown Folk Festival! Lots of great food, things to see and do, shopping, Amish and Mennonite info, entertainment all in one place! Check out http://www.kutztownfestival.com/

Crayola is great for the 17 mo old. There_s also the Allentown Art museum, lots of great art and a kids section to boot. Of course, Dorney Park is a must for the hot weather.

You could check out the shopping at the outlets in Reading. Vanity Fair (yes, the bra people) started the original outlets ages ago. You can_t beat their prices and they have things other than bras. Clothing for all ages, name brands, food and household stuff. Check out http://www.vffo.com/

Lancaster and the surrounding area is great too. A day trip to Longwood Gardens outside of Philly is good too. Amazing plants there and to think it was all a home for a very rich family (the Duponts) is mind boggling.

    Hope this helps a bit.

What can I do on a 2 days trip to Yosemite?|180205

I want to go to Yosemite for a couple of days, and can_t decide what to see.

  • You can actually see most of the park_s main sites in just two days. I went back in April and had an amazing time.
Here_s the Trip Plan I put together for it; you should be able to get a bunch of recommendations from it:

    http://travel.yahoo.com/trip?pid=553303_

I went in the spring, when all the waterfalls were gushing. You might put less emphasis on the waterfall hikes if you_re going this time of year.

Hope that_s useful! Have a great time!

  • It depends on when you_re going. The Tioga and Glacier Point roads will likely be closing in a few weeks, which will wall off a big chunk of Yosemite from you. Yosemite Valley is open year round, though, and is full of great stuff -- the tunnel view, El Capitan and Half Dome, the Mist Trail, Bridalveil and Yosemite falls (though waterfalls won_t be at their peak at this time of year). It_s less crowded after Labor Day, too.

The Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias, in southern Yosemite, should also be open. (It_s open year round, although during the peak of winter you_ll need snowshoes.) If you go before Tioga _ Glacier roads close, you won_t regret visiting Glacier Point or the highlights of the Tioga Road area, like Tuolumne Meadows and Tenaya Lake.

  • See it all , take a camera and lots of film !

  • you can take a hike, go see half dome, El capitan, and go camping of course!!! p.s there are bears!!!!

  • What I would do is park your car in the Backpacking/hiking Parking Lot (Bear Proof your Car). Then hike up to Nevada Falls, stop and play in the Merced River up near the falls!! Then hike about another 2 miles and camp for the night!!!! Get up in the morning and go the rest of the way to Half Dome. On the back side of Half Dome are cables that you can actually climb up to the top of Half Dome. It is a 16 mile hike round trip, but I hear its one of the neatest things to do!!! Huell Howser did that on one of his shows and it looked like a great trip!!!!

The other thing you could do is hike up to Myrtle Falls, hang out on the rocks by the water. You could stay at the Yosemite Cabin Tent hotel and take the horse/Mule trip up into the Back Country to see what they call the Wagon Wheels. There is alot to do in Yosemite. If I were you, I would either take a camper or RV, or pitch a tent and camp somewhere in the park.

Have a great trip and Have Fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • When does the season typically open for winter skiing and snowboarding?|177821

I am going to go to either CA, UT, WY or CO to snowboard. I know it varies due to the climate, but does anyone know what the where the earliest openings for resorts are. What states, areas, etc?

  • When it snows...whenever that is.

  • Resorts generally open around Thanksgiving, sometimes sooner depending on snowfall.

Why do snowboarders love Utah so much?

Well, for starters, there is the snow: 500 inches of deep light powder every year that blows up behind you with every turn. Then, you_ve got the best terrain in the world. Snowboards were built for steeps and Utah has them in spades. Rally down a double black diamond here in Utah, and you_ll understand what we_re talking about. Then, of course, there are the terrain parks. From Olympic Super Pipes to monster kickers, Utah knows how to take care of snowboarders. That_s probably why lots of pros make their homes here in Utah. Why go anywhere else, when you can have it all right here in your backyard?

If you are looking for info on the real scene in Utah, check out RideUtah.com. There you_ll get up-to-date park photos for each resort, information about coming events in the scene, articles on style and stories from everyday riders like yourself. So, this winter, come to Utah. Stand sideways. And just try to wipe that grin off of your face.

Snowboarding is not permitted at Alta and Deer Valley.
  • What are some fun activities to do in Chicago for my birthday?|190424

My birthday is coming up and what I was planing on doing was going around the city with my friends and just doing fun activities. I_m having trouble of coming up with things to do though. It_s a teen party and I want to do stuff like go to interesting shops or factories or whatever, places not every one knows about. Please don_t give generic answers like The Field Museum, or the Sears Tower, or the zoo. Thanks!

  • you need to go to michigan avenue the best shops ever!!! umm let_s see you could go to the broadway shows they are always amazing. unless you really want to don_t go to navy pier honestly it_s total tourist everything is like jacked up prices cuz all the people who visit chi-town want to go there and it_s always packed. you need to get deep dish when you_re here you haven_t had pizza until you_ve had deep dish from Lou Malnati_s. you could go see the bean (it_s a landmark) in millenium park it_s fun lol, you can go ice skating at the rink outsiide wrigley field. let_s see what else is fun around here (lol everything) there_s legoland but your probably a little young for that. hmmmm it kinda depends when you_re going cuz there_s always something going on some fest, parade, party, etc. um anything else go to metromix.com they_ll give you what_s going on around here when you come. plus it depends on how far your willing to travel chicago is a pretty big city and there are a lot of towns outside it will stuff to do. umm... ya it also depends on what you really wan to do out here like the things you like there_s imax out here (everywhere pretty much lol), joffrey ballet stuff, a million bands playing everywhere, shopping, broadway, sports, and music are probably your best bet here.listen to chicago radio stations they will usually tell you the fun stuff that_s goin on out here.the food is the best here too by the way if you know where to go lol that i won_t tell you some stuff has to be kept secret =:D
