What is the best and affordable way to go from CT to DC?|143167

From New Haven to DC Metro area. I don_t wanna use the car due to high gas prices but I realized Amtrak train is way too expensive. Greyhound is equally expensive and takes such a long time. Is there any other way to go from CT to DC that is affordable and does not take too much time?

  • Well, if you_ve ruled out Greyhound and Amtrak because of cost, then you might be in a bit of bind. However, you can take the commuter train (MTA Metro-North Railroad...
    http://www.mta.info/mnr/html/mnrmap.htm
) from New Haven to New York City, the ticket is like $13 (one way, off peak) if you buy it on the web. From New York, you can take the cheaper _dragon_ buses that run between Chinatown, NYC and Chinatown, DC. Those are much cheaper than Greyhound (like $20 one way, $35 round trip) but you need to get into NYC first.

The entire thing is going to cost _$60 roundtrip....

Once you_re in the DC area, you can just use the Metro to get to wherever your final destination is...

  • Those are pretty much the only ways to go. Flying is probably going to be even more expensive and not even the best way as far as time (since you_d have to go out of either Hartford or NYC and then deal with parking at the airport, going through security, etc... which would add to the cost and time of the trip). There are cheap buses that go from NYC to Washington (I believe as low as $15 each way) but they may not have the best safety records. Not to mention Greyhound is trying to compete and has lowered their fares accordingly on certain trips. But unfortunately these are likely your only options - unless you hitchhike... Or share a ride with someone and share expenses

  • I know Amtrak is expensive, but it really is the best way to get from New Haven to DC in a timely fashion. Once you_re in DC, you can use Metro rail and bus to get around.
  • How is the quality compared from Huntington Beach to Santa Barbara?|152319

I went to Huntington Beach last weekend, and it seems the air quality is bad. Either that or the air quality in Santa Barbara is super good. I_m asking, like, what_s the comparison? EX) huntington beach has air quality worse 2 times than santa barbara. i dont know but something like that.

  • First link is Huntington Beach the second link is Santa Barbara and the last link is where I started looking

  • The politically correct answer is that Santa Barbara has better air quality, but in reality it_s not really different.

For example, many people see the inversion layer or even the marine layer and assume that the air isn_t healthy. Some confuse haze for pollution.

The prevailing weather conditions impact the way people _see_ the air more often than any dangerous pollution.

  • Downtown? There are plenty of nice hotels. Seattle is the only big city with a beautiful, CLEAN downtown.

If you google with hotels in Seattle Center you can probably find a good few.

The mapquest them with the address of your convention to see the distance :)

  • I stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Bellevue. If you go to the website for the convention center, they usually offer a list of hotels that are close. Many of the hotels listed are usually within walking distance.

  • Hyatt is really close along with the Roosevelt.
  • What should I head for first when getting to Universal Studios or Islands of adventure?|170773

Heading to Orlando soon, and doing Universal Studios, IOA, and going to Halloween Horror Nights, any suggestions?

  • 0ooooh thats a toughy, i always have done universal studios first and then islands of adventure, dont know why though lol.

i love the mummy ride, and of course duelling dragons

whatever you do have fun and enjoy your trip.

  • Dueling Dragons at Islands of Adventure is a must! Plus you want to make sure to be able to experience it the way it is now before they retheme it for Harry Potter Land.

The Mummy at Universal Studios is a lot of fun too! Even the area they route the lines through is amazing.

Take a look at all of the attractions at both parks here...

  • it doesn_t matter the wait line in the rides are 5mins or less for each one of them. that_s one of the reasons i loved it there.

universal studios had a lot of 3d effects and simulations. it was pretty cool_
while islands of adventure was more of the traditional _roller coaster_ rides that most can associate with.

but both are real good and you can see both in one day_...may not finish them but you can see both of them.

  • I would go to spider-man first in IOA. Follow this link for a good plan on how to spend your day.

  • How old do you have to be to stay alone in Universal Studios?|168285

Im going to Orlando this weekend, and i would like to drop my daughter off with her friend (theyre 13, and 14) at the theme park. Universal and Islands of Adventures. Can i leave them alone? Or do they need to have an adult 18+ with them in the park?

  • It_s perfectly fine to drop your daughter and her friend off. They will have a blast and you do not have to sit around and wait for them to go on their types of rides. I just got back from Islands of Adventure yesterday and the wait times were between 30-65 minutes. If you want, you can purchase them a express pass for $39.95 and they will not have to waste their time in long lines...they are guartneed to be on the rides in 15 minutes or less with the pass. I see a bunch of teenagers by themselves so it is fine!!!

  • ok, why would you leave your 13 year old alone in a park? sorry but thats pretty irresponsible. I dont care what kind of kid she is, you leaving her alone in a theme park she doesnt know and with thousands of strangers. Ok then. then we wonder why our kids disappear.

    sorry lady but your crazy.

  • 9UN8I-0

  • They can be there by themselves.
