What is the best place to live in the north east?|116091

Where is the prettiest and still has a few big cities around in driving distance in the New England area?

  • It depends on what you like. If you like an active nightlife, go to Boston. It_s a very fun, cosmopolitan city.

If you just want peace and quiet, try Muskogeon, Maine. A small town about an hour north of Portland, Maine.

Montpelier, Vermont is great if you want the pretty leaves and stuff like that.

  • newport rhode island or new hampshire coast if you have the money,,

  • Washington DC, shopping, next to vA and Maryland....monuments!!

  • Places near Burlington, Vermont!

  • up state new york..
  • What are some fun things to do in Hollywood for a birthday party if Im renting a limo?|144659

I want to be able to have some time in the limo but do some fun things too. I already have dinner and dessert planned. But I can_t figure out what else we can do. The trip down to Hollywood is 2 hours. So any ideas?

  • Re: a previous question. DO NOT dress up as a female celebrity if you are going to Hollywood. There are panhandlers there that dress up in costumes to beg for money from tourists, and some can get violently territorial if they feel someone is infringing on their turf.

Don_t expect to see celeb_s there. They don_t live in Hollywood, and rarely go there unless it is to appear at a public event they are paid to attend. Enjoy your Birthday, and don_t get into trouble.

  • If you get a really cool limo then you can basically have a party in the limo. I recommend cruising sunset if you are going to hollywood, which can be a very fun way to pass 2 hours surprisingly. But in the end, it is all about the limo. Make sure you get something nice and go through a limo quote site like Ez Limo Rentals, because they dispatch the request to several companies in the area. That way you are not limiting your options. Limo companies often have creative ideas on how to have the best limo for the occasion and event and game ideas as well sometimes.

  • you shoud have specified your age because that pretty much determines what you can do n hollywood. if you are 18 and over you can hit up some cool clubs, which is what most people do there. if you are under 18 it is pretty hard to find something to do besides eat. i went there a few years ago for my friends 16 birthday, we were all that age and after dinner it was hard to find something to do so we just walked around hollywood blvd and went to some weird stores and to the house of wax museum, which i guess was cool but it wasn_t really exciting or anything. so if you have a lot friends with you then it should be fun. have fun!

  • Maybe have it drop you off in style at a nightclub on the Sunset Strip, maybe Social Hollywood? Or have it take you for an evening drive up into the hills on Mulholland Dr.? (beautiful homes and beautiful view if the sky is reasonably clear)
  • Which Hawaiian island other than Oahu is the best to visit and why?|143592

I have been to Oahu 4 times and Maui once. I_m going again with a friend who has never been before and we will go to Oahu but we also would like to spend a few days on another Island. These days will be our relaxation days so we are looking for stunning scenery and great beaches! We are going in February _09. Also, where is a great place to stay?

  • I have visited Oahu,Maui,Kauai,Hawai_i and Molokai. Of course being on any one of the Beautiful Hawai_ian Islands (in my opinion) is preferable to being Anywhere else in the world (but then I_m a little bias)...I enjoy Oahu for the Night Life, nostalgia and stimulation of ALOT of people in Paradise, as do my 3 teens. That is why every time we go to Hawai_i we Always visit Oahu (Waikiki) first then move on to a more Relaxing Island to unwind before going home to California...Each of the other Islands offers its own form of beauty and fun,Hawai_i (The Big Island) is bigger than all of the other Islands put together and allows for a variety of climates and scenery...from lush and green and very wet(Hilo)
to the RELATIVELY dryer areas between Hilo and Kona, miles and miles of black lava beds as well as the many many Beaches ...Black Sand...Green Sand...these are beaches you may never see anywhere else except Hawai_i. Then there is the Mountain area(Waimea and Kamuela) on the way up to Mauna Kea...where it actually gets cold (I was just there last month) Molokai is very secluded and not very populated therefore if you are looking to get away from everyTHING and everyONE...this is your Island...Kauai is Fabulous...Beautiful Beaches...Lush and Green pretty much everywhere...BUT my personal favorite Island to visit is my MAUI...Kaanapali, Kapalua, Lahaina, Napili, Wailea and The Fabulous and World Famous Hana Highway...so many things to do and see....Regardless of the one you choose...you really can_t go wrong...Aloha,Enjoy..A Hui Ho..

  • well Hawaii(big island) has many things to see and do with the volcano park on the Hilo side, and capt cook history with very good coffee on the Kona side.it also has beautiful gardens, beaches, waterfalls.and activities to do.
Maui has the second largest city in Hawaii, with the most beautiful beaches(it_s country without losing the comforts of the city)
Kaui,Molokai,Lani are very laid back so you get the real country feeling.

  • OK, so I admit I_m biased -- had family on both Maui and Big Island. But I will say Maui always had gorgeous beaches and had the most pleasant weather compared to the other islands. You wouldn_t think the weather would differ between such a closely-knit chain of islands, but you_d be surprised. Maui has Haleakala Crater, which is the home of one of the most stunning sunrise views you_ll ever be blessed with seeing -- if you don_t mind waking up REALLY early. There are also biking trips you can take where a bus takes you up country near Makawao and you just bike your way down and take in the beautiful scenery. Big Island has Volcanoes National Park, which has Kilauea, one of the most active volcanoes around. You won_t be able to see the lava coming out -- mostly underground and goes straight into the sea right now -- but you can walk across the cooled lava flows and it_s such a strange, unique experience. Bring hiking boots or good tennis shoes; the lava breaks like glass and not pleasant if you have sandals. Kona has the beaches on Big Island and they have a lot of snorkel/diving spots in the area that are really lovely if you want to see sea turtles.

  • It depends on what you really like. Each island is different from each other. We have been to Maui which has everything from nice beaches, to a vibrant nightlife and good shopping. I also think that the best luau is on Maui. When we visited Kauai, it was really laid back and there_s less hotels and activities there. It was nice though. It_s still Hawaii! Hope this helps. Aloha!

  • I would either pick Kauai or Molokai. Kauai because of it_s nice beaches and lush scenery, or Molokai because it_s isolated and remote. For more Hawaii info about the islands, see here:
    http://www.to-hawaii.com/

  • Try the Big Island. You can get a room for two at a plantation house for a decent price and it is relatively close to the Volcano park.

  • The big island has a lot to see and there are climates for everybody from hot humid rain forest to dry desert conditions
    your choice.

  • Maui ...
    http://www.juicytrips.com/2008/05/22/haw

  • the volcanoes on the big island
visit the smallest or least popular island
    for a change of pace

  • go to maui and go snorkling and parasailing.its really beautiful me and my family saw a big turtle when we were snorkling.

  • Kauai!!! its beautiful with waterfalls and green mountains!!

    Nice place!!

We did the whole island in 2 days!!

  • I enjoyed Kauai!!!!!!!!!!!! It was so pretty, relaxing and fun!! I want to go back sooo bad!
  • How can I keep my 3 amp; 5 yr old nieces entertained in Dallas?|154690

My nieces 5 yr and 3 yr old are visiting me in Dallas in May end for 10 days. I intend to take them on a small road trip to the Sea World, San Antonio for 2 days. Apart from that, can you give me ideas about how I can make them their trip educational and fun!

  • There are various indoor _play - gyms_ around, with all sorts of jumping, climbing things for kids that age. You can usually pay by the hour for them to play...... Call the local Chamber of Commerce (for Dallas, or whatever suburb you_re in) and ask if they have any activities now for kids to do ... Call your local library and see if they have story hours ..... There_s an indoor waterpark in Allen, and may be others around too.....Call the Heard Museum in McKinney and see what their activities are for May.....

  • Buy them coloring books with sea animal in the books then when you go Sea World, they can actully see in real life the animals they were coloring. and also take them to the Zoo, kids like seeing animals.

  • 3 and 5? well, have coloring books and crayons on hand...little kids arent cultural and educational they tend to be spoiled now days and they want things now!

  • Mission and Pacfic Beach are the places to go.
Bike, skate, or walk along the boardwalk. Go to Belmont Park. You_ll met tons of young people on vacation or out of school for the summer.

  • Which city in Alaska is a mustsee city for ppl (American ppl) who have never been to Alaska?|153330

I am looking for a city with enough touristy things to see and do, but that does not require too much walking (especially hard on elderly ppl). Thanks.

  • If anyone would go to Alaska, they ought to see the town of Homer, if at least just because it is what it is, and where it is.
If you flew into Anchorage, then saw somewhere else in Alaska without going to Homer, it would be like visiting Hong Kong without going to Macau.
Homer is only a short bus ride away, and for less than $40, easy on the pocket and Psyche, much easier than immediately, _staking it out to the Interior_, especially in a state as wild and unfamiliar as Alaska,
It takes a period of adjustment to spend seeing Alaska , realizing fully where you are, somewhere to take the edge off, to get your bearings. That_s what Homer is excellent for.
Also, Homer is a bohemian town with lots of Art and Culture, and fairly cheap: (by Alaska standards) , accommodation, food, B_B_s, nightlife etc.,(did someone mention cafes and bars?), where one can adjust, meet people, and find info about things to do, because the wilder places are rugged and involve adjustment to hardships necessary to endure, just to get there and really do, and what Alaska is.
Homer has maintained a longstanding tradition, since the days of Hemingway, to be easy and fun, slightly adventuresome, easier on the pocket than Anchorage, and great for for backpackers and adventurers just out of the bush going for a breather, or a salad break, without having continuous high excitement and hassle on one_s mind all the time, which you need to have to visit the Interior, or even the great outdoors which you are probably not yet used to.

Also, the Kenai Peninsula, where Homer is located, enjoys the most benign climate in Alaska..: Alaskans consider their pet sub-section known as the, _Banana Belt_, including Homer (very much the heart of) , and Kodiak Island, (where the largest bears in the world live), Valdez, (where the Spill was). Good and bad, yes, but this isn_t the bush yet, either.
Still, last time I was there, I got to go Halibut fishing, huge fish they clean and fish for daily out on Homer Spit, and then saw two Moose grazing on the edge of town, not afraid of me. Good, start I thought.

Fairbanks is the absolute _extreme Alaska_ , where there are brutally hot mosquitoey summers, then absolutely brutally cold winters, still something to see when you are ready, and a fun town worth going to. It is in the _Interior_.
Juneau is in the _Panhandle_. Very rainy in winter, but also fine.
Another, the Brooks Range and the _North Slope_, fantastic. Like having the Rocky Mountains, way north in the Arctic. Amazing for sighting Elk and Cariboo migrations, but in Summer, because I mean harsh and Arctic in winter.

All fine sections, good in their own way, but you have to be sure what it is you want.
    Last time I was there.
    Start with Homer.

  • Well Anchorage is by far the largest city, and there is quite a bit to see and do there, depending on your interests. It_s surrounded by mountains on 3 sides and the Cook Inlet on the other. I used to live there so if you have any specific questions I can try to help you. When are you going? The tourist season there is mostly over by now. Usually people visit in May, June or July. In August it begins to get cooler and rainy. Downtown Anchorage is flat and easily walkable. The only hilly part of town is Hillside, which you can drive to for awesome views.

Fairbanks is kinda old and dumpy but does have interesting gold mining history. There are no mountains or trees there, just hills and bushes.

Another city that_s really pretty is Ketchikan. Actually all the cities in _Southeast_ are gorgeous: Juneau is built against a mountain, Sitka has Russian architecture, Skagway has the largest Fjord in the world - even bigger than the ones in Norway.

Oh, one of my personal favorites is Seward. It_s 100 miles south of Anchorage on the ocean and totally gorgeous. It_s very quaint and cute with astounding scenery. Homer used to be a favorite and it_s still beautiful, but the town has grown a lot and gotten touristy. Email me if you have any other questions.
