Whats the fastest way to get from San Francisco to OAK airport by way of a ferry? Bay Bridge closed Labor Day|190582

I_ve been planning a trip to SF for months and booked a flight to OAK. I was planning to ride the BART from the airport to SF and back. I just found out the that Bay Bridge will be closed Aug 31-Sept 4! I think my only alternative is to ride a ferry but I don_t know which one to take, where to purchase tix, or how to get to the airport from where ever the ferry lands. Help! All the SF official transportation websites are so vague in describing alternate routes!

  • yeah, you can still take BART from SF to the oakland airport. no problemo.

from the oakland airport, you have to take a transfer bus to the BART station, then take a colma or SFairport train to SF.
from SF take a fremont or dublin/pleasanton train and get off at the oakland coliseum station, then take the shuttle bus back to the oakland airport.

you need worry about the bridge only if you are driving, and if you are, other bridges will be open.

  • Wow, I wondered about the bridge being closed, too. The only time it_s ever been closed was when the segment collapsed during the quake of 89.

However, I looked it up, and this seems to be true:

    http://www.baybridgeinfo.org/

Seismic Safety Project: This website is designed to offer a window into the historic work being done on the Bay BridgeC from the retrofitting of the original West Span, to the demolition and replacement of the West Approach, to the construction of the new Skyway and dramatic single tower Self-Anchored Suspension (SAS) span

    Wonders must be ceasing...

  • The bay bridge closed? Where did you get that information?

  • I don_t think you understand the mechanics of this...

Why would BART be affected by any Bay Bridge closures? It_s not a bus, you know.

BART is a subway system, the trains travel *under* the bay. The Bay Bridge is a freeway, it_s a roadway *over* the bay. The closure of one does not affect the other at all.

BART will continue to operate as normal. This includes service from Oakland Airport. The only difference is BART will be more crowded than usual because the motorists will park in the suburbs and take the train into the city.

  • Take the subway. It_s called BART.

  • Just piling on--BART goes under the Bay, so will not be affected by the bridge closure, other than being more crowded; however, they_re going to add more trains.

  • The Bay Bridge and BART are not the same thing. BART will not be closed, you can still take BART.
  • What is the best hotel to stay at in Vegas?|101491

I am looking for something that isnt going to kill my pockets, great food and fun things to do. I dont know anythign about vegas but sure would love to go.

  • _Looking for something that isn_t going to kill my pockets_ _ Go when room prices are low. Avoid weekends, large conventions and special events. Do, plan as far in advance as possible. Do, book your room through the hotel, so that if you find a better deal you can cancel the first reservation and make another.Do, check the travel sites to compare rates with the hotel web sites(but only for comparison) many LV hotels will price match the best rate you can find online, for their hotel.

This is a good site for LV info. You can access every hotel/casino web site in LV from this one, and the LVA site uses travelave which is a great way to search for the best room rates.

The cheapest time to go to LV is after the NFR up until the weekend before new years. This year that_s December 9th until the 28th. The other _generally_ cheaper times of the year are from Memorial Day until Labor day and then again from the first of November until the first of March.

IMHO these are the best value

  • You_re welcome

  • Depending on where you live, always try to get a vacation package (travelocity.com). It will be cheaper and you will have a variety of hotels to choose from. If you are driving there, try hotels that are off the strip if you want it to be less expensive and if you don_t mind not being on the strip. If you want to stay on the strip, tyr hotels such as Excalibur, Treasure Island or Circus Circus. Good luck.

  • When I went, I stayed at the Excalibur. It was pretty cool. But most of the hotels are nice. Try going to lasvegas.com, they have all of the hotels plus pictures of them. Have fun!!!

  • Expensive: Bellagio, Wynn

    Mid-Range: Luxor, MGM,

Cheaper: Stratosphere, or _The world_s largest Motel 6_

  • I love The Venitian, then The Belagio, Then Cesars.... Depends on what you want in a hotel! Some have the best pools, some have great restraunts, some have great shops, etc.

  • Try going to a discount travel website (Sherman_s Travel, Hotels.com, Expedia) where you get the best deals, and make sure to stay at a hotel on the strip.

Almost any hotel on the strip is really nice (Excalibur, Luxor, New York, New York), but some of them are older, like Circus Circus and Stratosphere etc. There is so much to do in Vegas! Check out www.lasvegas.com. Try picking up a coupon book while you are there, and many hotels have special promotions. Generally you can walk the strip, take the bus up and down it, and some hotels have trams inbetween.

You can also take a day bus trip to the Grand Canyon from most of the hotels, which is really fun as well.

  • The Hilton swanky to the max!!!:)

  • Tropicana!! Or any of the Station casinos.

  • The Plaza isn_t so bad. And its right next to the strip and tourist shops :oh and don_t forget to take the bus. its like $5 per person to get on but then u get a free pass on the bus all day after that. Las Vegas is fun!!! ( but it so HOT!!)

  • The Paris hotel is a great place to stay. Every Las Vegas stay must include a buffet and it is excellent at the Paris. Go ahead and see the top of the Eiffel Tower with your two for one coupon as a guest of the hotel. You could have a great view of the Bellagio fountains across the street. Take a walk over to the Forum shops at Caesar_s.

  • i stayed at The Flamingo when i went to Las Vegas. it has good restaurants, good service, and a nice pool. the MGM has a lot to offer and looks like it would be a fun place to stay. the Bellagio and Caesar_s Palace are simply beautiful but the prices aren_t cheap. basically any hotel on the strip is good location. check into which one would suit your stay best.

  • Pretty much anything on the strip is nice, I went there for my 21st birthday. We stayed in MGM Grand beautiful hotel, and plenty to do in there, you don_t have to leave for anything. you can Clubs, Resturants, Gambling, Entertaimnent, and anything else you know. also when you go, your going to spend a decent amout so save all u can. alot on tips.... atleast for us it was, but its a nice place, I wanna go back. have fun

  • Ok I was born and raised here so... first and foremost you have to stay at Mandalay Bay during the summer! They have one of the best pools out here, and it_s a great place to see and be seen! If you are going to test your luck at the tables you should go to the free lessons first, every hotel gives free poker lessons early in the afternoon. For shopping I would suggest the Forum Shoppes at Cesar_s, or the at the Grand Canal shops at the Venetian.
  • What golf courses in Disney would you recommend?|101093

I_m going to Disney World for a week at the end of the month, I_ve got reservations for Lake Buena Vista and Magnolia golf courses. I was just wondering if anyone has played down there and what their thoughts were on the courses.

  • All 4 courses on Disney property are equally as good and as beautiful . Play them all !
