How is the weather of Buffalo NY as compared to Boston?|168581

Hello I might move from Boston to Buffalo and would like to know How is the weather of Buffalo NY as compared to Boston. I am more concerned of cold weather then snow. Kindly advice. Thanks.

  • I dont know about Boston, but I do know Buffalo having lived here for 17 years. It is pretty harsh in the winter when it comes to snow especially in the southtowns. Areas like the Tonawandas, Grand Island, and Niagara Falls are generally less affected, but still experience snow. The lake-effect normally lands in the city and below. Summers are about 80 degrees in the city, and again, cooler heading North. Any area around the water will be about 10 degrees cooler. It starts to get cold around halloween and finally begins to snow by mid-december (we didnt have snow for this past christmas though). Any more specific questions, I would be happy to answer.
  • Is it true that there is a singles night at the hyde park Kroger?|151656

If this is the case, has anybody been there first hand? If so, what_s it like? And are there any other good places if Cincinnati to meet people beside bars?

  • I have no idea about Kroger having a singles night. However as for meeting singles in Cincinnati , you should do what it is
you like doing. This is the only way to meet a single person who likes doing the same things you like doing.Unless of course you want to meet a single person who does not like
doing the same things as you. Then you need to think _what kind of single person am I looking to find_.

If you are looking for a church type then start attending different churchs

If you like a single person who likes flowers then start at the Krohn
    Conservatory in Eden Park.

Not to many singles at the Zoo
but what the heck it is a nice place to go when it is not hot.Animals are a lot like humans when it gets hot they just
    lay around.

If you want a single who likes art then try the Art Museum in Eden Park.

If you like a well read single then the
library is the place for you.

You want a single who shoots a little pool then a nice pool hall would be a good place to start.
Maybe Snookers or Micheals.Albeit Snookers is getting more like a bar than pool hall.

Now if you are looking for a single who likes staying fit then join a local work out joint and sweat till you meet another sweating single.

If you like to meet a single who is trying to loose weight then you may try a weight watches meeting place. Be for warned most over weight people stay that way.

You see it is a simple solution to your problem go where singles go who enjoy doing what they do.This has always puzzled me why people say that they can never meet a nice single person till they tell me they work and go to bars. Then I just look at them and say duh.

Oh yea if you are looking for a nice Republican or Democrat then look up their party numbers and volunteer.

I hope this helps if not then go to one of the laundrymats in Norwood and you will probably find a single there most every night.

  • I_ve heard that Tuesday evenings are pretty popular. I_m not sure on that specific time. I read it in the Enquirer once. I don_t think it_s anything official.

The Methodist Church on Observatory and Grace has a singles group on Sunday evenings. You can smell the pheromones a half a mile away.

  • Many grocery stores used to run similar promotions (a couple of decades ago). I do know a radio station recently tried that at the Hyde Park Kroger, but it died quickly.

As was stated before, find a store that has a wine tasting, or a church that has a singles night.

I might also suggest Hap_s Irish Pub on a weeknight. There is a diverse group of regulars there (some older couples, some younger singles, some older singles), and lots of social groups that meet there once a week. I am not one to suggest going to a bar to meet somebody (unless you just want a one nighter), but Hap_s may be a good place to go to.

  • I actually live within blocks of that store and walk to shop there often. I do see a lot of the college/recent-graduate age folks of Oakley/Hyde Park/Mt. Lookout there. I notice WAY more couples than I do singles though. The majority of those who are not there with a significant other rarely tear themselves away from their cell phone. I_d look elsewhere for better prospects.

I remember reading the same thing about an unofficial singles night when I first came to town. I think the Flying Pig course description mentions it while describing the Hyde Park portion of the marathon route. If you go, any given night might be better than another, but I definitely don_t think any will jump out as a semi-organized _singles night_.

  • I dont think so. Every time Ive been there, its pretty much been the standard Hyde Park type crowd that you see everyplace else in HP. No real singles concentration. How about meeting a girl at a Reds game or go tailgating with some friends at the upcoming Bengals games? There are always a decent number of hot women at both places, and as a bonus, you know that they have at least a small interest in sports if they are there.

  • I hear that there is a singles night at the Hyde Park Kroger. They say that you can tell those who are single carry a basket while shopping and those who push a shopping cart are married.

The Vineyard Church has a singles night I think every Thursday night. If your company has a softball team, you can join and meet singles, especially if the team is co-ed since you will be playing other co-ed teams from around the area.

  • I_ve not heard of a singles night but I_ve heard about a ladies night at the Kroger_s in Hyde Park. A bar is definitely not a good place to meet a mate unless you like that kind of stuff. Try a nice coffee house.

  • Unofficially Tuesdays and Thursdays - however, when I lived in Cinci and shopped there I never noticed an abundance of singles shopping. Wouldn_t bank on it to find a date . . . .

  • You could go to the Party Source in Newport. They have weekly wine tastings. I have lived in Cincinnati all my life, but I have heard that it can be really hard to meet people here. You could sign up for an art or cooking class.

  • Do any of you guys want to get a Cincinnati Y!A peeps going? Add me as a contact. We could meet once in a while to sip a drink and gripe.
  • Can you ride the rides at Disney World while having a cast becuase of a broken arm?|120908

We are going to Disney World in 5 weeks, my 15 year old just broke his arm, and will have a cast on up to just below his elbow. Is this going to restrict him from going on any rides?

  • Nah, he can still go on the rides. Just tell him to hang on tight on the speedy rides.

  • I can_t think of any reason he shouldn_t be able to go on if it_s just from his hand to his elbow. Even the thrill rides shouldn_t be a problem. The only thing they worry about is pregnancy, heart conditions, things like that.

    Have fun!

  • Maybe some rollercoaster wont let him on it because he could injured even badly. I_m really sorry, but he still wacth shows and parades. There is more than roller coasters in disney world.

  • He could technically ride anything with a cast on, but I would suggest not going on some of the big roller coasters. Other than that, he should be fine. Have fun!!!

  • He will be able to go on all the rides. My brother broke his arm right before my family went to Disney world a few years back and he was able to go on all the rides.

  • He should be able to go on all the rides..a couple of years ago I hurt my arm pretty bad. I was able to do everything!

  • Not at all. Have fun!
  • How inexpensively can I live in New York City?|133427

Basically, here_s the deal: I_m planning on moving to NYC in around January of 2008, and to plan ahead, I_m wondering what would be the least amount I could expect to pay in housing expenses per month, whether I_m renting or owning. Ideally, I_d prefer to live in Manhattan but I_d be open to any of the burroughs as long as it_s safe and I_d be able to commute to the city for work. Thanks in advance, answering this will help me out a lot.

  • Here is a site that you can enquire...good for a ballpark figure...it calls $13 to 1500/mo _basic_ and $15-1800/mo _midrange_ rent for a one-bedroom, one bathroom apartment in Manhatten...
    Manhattan Apartment Search Inquiry Form...

    http://www.manhattanhomeapartments.com/i

  • u live under a bench...hahaha. jk. i dont know

  • If you don_t mind being off the main island, Staten Island is actually still fairly affordable as opposed to Manhattan (1 bedroom for anywhere from 7-900). Parts of brooklyn are also fairly affordable and still safe (Brighton, Sheepshead Bay, Bensonhurst).

  • Prepare to spend a lot of money for a very small space, probably a 4th or 5th floor walk-up. it will probably be so small that a 14-inch TV will seem like a 36-inch one because that_s how close you will be.

I remember about 10 years ago looking at an apartment building for sale in Hoboken, NJ, just across the Hudson River from Manhattan. It was a 4 story row house. One of the things that impressed me was that in the kitchens was a sort of strange flip-up table. When you flipped up the table, there was the toilet, right in the middle of the kitchen floor. Real estate is at such a premium near New York City you can expect oddities like this.

  • lets see... easily 1500 for a studio in mahattan....

  • Depends on your neighborhood.

Try the lower east side if you_re looking on the cheap - and look for buildings without the flash (i.e. a old 4-story walk-up is going to be much more economical than the doorman/elevator building)

  • Check out for Ambrosia building 7th and 48. It has apartments for 800 dollars a month with deposit and last month (1600), water is expensive, and telephone is cheaper if you decide on cell phones for two years. Monthly outcome on water, cable and electricity is 200 a month. Rather save some for a car instead of paying fares a long time, it is no help in the long run. Attempt on a deal paying 1000 a month and buy the apartment. Bug and rat control is requisite every six months. If you plan to earn less than 1600 a month, uptown has apartments in Burgess or Carrad for 700 a month, same deal, 200 dollars saved on this. Get to buy it paying 900 a month, it more cash is needed, go for a coffee shop gig. Do not feed pigeons or rats will follow, if you see a roach it can cost 100 dollars for control, in uptown chances are you will encounter few rats, mostly from unoccupied apartments, even below. Go for 300 dollars more expense than in other states, even California or Connecticut.
  • Can a minor stay in a hotel room alone if a parent is in a different room in the same hotel?|133029

My family is going to go see my step-sister for her birthday. She lives with her mom, so my step-dad, mom, brother, sister, and I are driving up and staying in a hotel. What I was wondering is if I could stay in my own room since my mom is staying in the same hotel. Will they let me do that?

  • yes, they will let you. go crazy. slam the door all night long, raid the ice machine, put ice outside of other rooms, switch the door tags from do not disturb to maid make up the room now. set the alarm to go off for the next guest to check in after you, set it for 3:00am. whatever you do have fun.

  • The hotel room has to be booked by an adult, but once it_s booked they don_t care who stays in the room. An adult can book you a room in their name and give it to you to stay in, so that shouldn_t be a problem.

Some hotels won_t simply let a minor occupy a room by his/herself if there is NO adult involved, but it sounds like an adult will be nearby, you should be fine.

  • Yeah i have done that! my mom stayed in the room next door and they didn_t care at all just have your mom get two rooms they don_t need to know and plus as long as they get paid they don_t care who is in their rooms.

  • sure

they often rent connecting rooms or family rooms that are smaller than regular rooms.

it depends on what reservations they make and the cost.

also how full the hotel is. If you rent a huge suite they often have private rooms

  • Yes as long as there is a parent with you. You will be able to stay in a Hotel. For a parent must sign for the rooms and pay for it. Have fun dear !

  • I_m sure it won_t be a problem. I_ve done it plenty of times before with no confrontation. I doubt it_s even against policy.

  • They will let you do anything, as long as you have a parent around.

  • yup definently at least in south carolina they can...

  • Yes. We did that many times once our son was about age 11. I don_t recommend it before then.
  • What does the sunset at pearl harbor look like?|144127

I_ve always wanted to go there to see it, i am rich and can afford it, my parents own a yacht club and are both doctors.

  • See for yourself. It varies greatly.

    Pearl Harbor

    http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/im

  • The sunset is breathtaking!! Since money is no object, you should
fly to Oahu and visit. There are historical things like Pearl Harbor,
and also you could climb DiamondHead. The thing about the sun
sets in Hawaii, the sun drops very quickly, if you blink or turn your head, you could miss it. I know because my Mother wanted a pic
of me and called me to face her, when I turned around the sun was
down. I almost cried and I was an adult when this happened. I told
her the next day not to call me that I had to see the sunset. It was
different from any sunset I have ever seen and I have been to all 50 states and a number of foreign countries.
Start checking on flights and hotels and then you can answer this
    question when it_s posted.
  • Where can I find a list of all concerts in NYC on the 28th and 29th of August?|143060

Any kind of concerts, at any venue in the city.
Can you give me a link please?
    Thanks!

  • I would add
    http://www.pollstar.com
to the first person_s site only because that will cover the larger venues like Madison Square Garden if you_re looking for larger artists. But that site does seem to have most of it covered.

  • There isn_t really a comprehensive list of ALL the concerts in New York because the venue or the artist has keep the publishers of the lists up to date.

I would add jambase.com to the above 2 lists which are some of the best, but jambase allows artists themselves to post concerts so you_ll get more of the local, smaller shows there that the others don_t have.

this will give you pretty much every show going on NYC. It might not have everything for those days since it_s a couple months away, but if you check back closer to the date it_ll have everything :)
