How difficult is it to get a taxi from JFK to Manhattan on July 4th?|149463

I_m told that because it_s Independence Day, a significant amount of drivers take the day off, and so it can be difficult to get a taxi. Also, I_m told that on Independence Day it can take longer to get into Manhattan than usual.

Is this true, what problems may I encounter?

  • Not that I want to correct SVincent but there is no bus at JFK that will take you directly to Manhattan for only $2.00.

But it will be quite difficult to get a cab at the airport (everyone is coming in for the fireworks). Trust me - with all the people coming in, taxi drives will not be taking the day off.

Your best bet: Take the subway:

Take the AirtTrain to the Howard Beach station. Then take a Manhattan bound A train to Manahhtan (since you didn_t indicate where in Manhattan you are going, I can_t advise further).

The AirTrain fare is $5 and the subway $2. When you get to the Howard Beach AirTrain station you will see MetroCard vending machines. There are people in maroon vests who will assist you should you need it. Purchase a $7.00 MetroCard and the proceed to the turnstiles marked NYC Subway. When you get thru the turnstiles go to the left and take the elevator or escalator down to the subway platform. The A train runs about every 16 minutes. Take the A into Manhattan, you can change to other subway line at various points at no extra cost if that will get you closer to where you want to go.

Note: If you will be returning to JFK you may wanyt to buy two $7.00 MetroCards or put $14.00 onto one. That way you_ll save time for the return trip.

Review the NYC subway map online to get a better idea of how to get to your destination. You can get a hard copy of the subway map at the Howard Beach station. Just ask the people in the maroon vests.

  • It most certainly can!!!! Your best bet is to travel by bus from the airport to Manhattan. WHy? Safer, easier and _LESS EXPENSIVE_!!!! The bus may run you...$2.00, but the cab maybe $45.00!! Big difference. Just do yourself and your pockets the favor on that day! Take the bus, lol! You_ll thank me later...

  • How do I get from Sahara Hotel in the strip (Las Vegas) to Greyhound central bus station in Las Vegas?|199495

What_s the duration? and the rates?

  • take a cab ... only about a five minute drive if that. Might cost less than 10 bucks.

  • Take the Deuce (bus) to Fremont Street. Walk about 3 blocks on Fremont to the Plaza. The Greyhound station is next to the Plaza.

The Deuce bus fare is only $2. It takes a little longer then a taxi but much cheaper. You can take luggage on the Deuce if it_s not crowded. The other route you could take is the 108 that runs on Sahara to the downtown transit center. You would a little farther walk but it wouldn_t be as crowded.

  • You could take a cab, or a city bus to the Greyhound station. The cab driver will know the way. You could also ask the desk clerk at the hotel for directions to the Station. As for duration and rates...you will have to ask those that are in the know like the desk clerk again...or call whom ever it is that you want their rates like Greyhound for their rates, or the cab company or the city transit...your question is a bit vague on this issue.

  • Greyhound is located Downtown next to the Plaza. The Sahara is the north end of The Strip. You can take a cab or ride a bus to Downtown, then walk to Plaza. Bus rides are $2 one trip or $5 per day. Cabs are more $. The walk will take you about 15 minutes, not that far.

  • TAKE THE CAT BUS TO THE DOWNTOWN STATION, WALK TO MAIN STREET AND SOUTH TO THE STATION...(NEXT TO THE PLAZA HOTEL) OR IF YOU HAVE NO LUGGAGE, JUST WALK IT, IT_S ONLY ABOUT A MILE OR SO!!!

  • Just travel north on Las Vegas BLVD to downtown turn left on ogden and right on main street to the Plaza Hotel

  • Gee, have you heard of the Internet, Mapquest, Yahoo Maps, or Google Maps?

  • Take a cab.
  • How long will it take me to drive from the Houston main airport to the University of Houston?|149944

And How much will it cost me to rent a car in Houston for 4 days?, nothing fancy, the most regular car.

  • I agree with most of the previous statements posted,it all depends on the time of day.
You will save some time getting there by taking the Hardy Toll Road south to Loop 610 West to 45 South.Ask the rental car folks how to get there from the airport,it_s very close to the airport.Just look on Mapquest
You would be better off renting a car because that about an 15-20 mile trip.Houston is very spread out, plus you will be able to go check out other things if you have the time.
A good route going back to the airport during _rush hour_is to go US 59 (East Tex Freeway) north, exit Will Clayton Parkway.Turn left _ takes you straight to the airport.
Wear cool clothing it is very hot here already.

  • Times listed above(by txhypnotist) are good numbers with light to moderate traffic. If you hit rush hour then double them. You should be able to get a rental car for 20 a day if you shop around, and cabs are excessively expensive you would be better off renting a car.

  • Their are three Houston Campus locations.

U of H Downtown, 30 mins from IAH Air port, 30 mins from Hobbie air port

U of H Central, 45 mins from IAH airport, 15 mins from Hobbie airport

U of H Clear Lake, 1 hr from IAH, 35 mins from Hobbie airport.

  • it took me about 15mintues depends on the traffic....

  • If you take 45-south, depending on the time of day it can take anywhere from 25-50 min. A car rental should not be that bad, depending on whether you are under or over 25, look for it to cost about 100 dollars.

  • It really depends on the traffic .Check out hertz for rental car prices ..

  • 45 mins freeway
    100 dollars

  • 10-25 min
  • What are some fun things to do while visiting seattle?|124345

I used to live there and we always go back there during the summer. But this year i_m bringing my friend and she wants to do everything like the zoo, aquarium, downtown, the market, and the space needle. But I want to know of fun stuff that you normally wouldn_t think of. Do you think you could help?

  • I like going down to the Center for Wooden Boats on Lake Union and renting a rowboat to get out on the water. It isn_t cheap, but it_s lots of fun and you get a unique view of the city. If you are willing to row a bit, you can get a waterside view of some of the houseboats on the lake as well.

  • Take a tour of Underground Seattle. It is plenty of fun. Also, visit Seattle_s many coffee houses. They have delicous coffee and you can meet many interesting people.

  • not go to the strip club, my unit mobilized out of there for this deployment and the strip clubs dont even serve booze. what a waste!

  • You could Ride the Ducks!
  • Do my family and I need visas to go to disneyland florida from ireland?|115457

  • No you will need a passport but not a visas unless your paling on staying for more then three months but i would check with the airport and stuff before just to make sure. Have fun at Disneyland It will be a lot of fun for your family and you

  • Ireland participates in the US Visa Waiver Program, which (assuming you_re Irish) means you can visit the US for up to 90 days without a visa.

Before you travel, you must now complete an application using the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) at
    https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/.

  • you only need a visa if you plan on staying for 3 months or more.

if it just says passport then you just need your rpassport.

  • Nope :)

  • you always need a visa to go to the us from ireland dont you
  • What is the legal age to rent a house in Washington State?|115352

I_m writing a story and I would like to know what the legal age to rent a house is in Washington (state). I know that the legal age to drink alcohol is 21, but what_s the legal age to rent a house. Because in Australia (where I_m from) you can drink at 18, but rent at 16. If you could help me, that would be much appreciated.

  • 18, unless you are an emancipated minor and you have consent from a legal guardian.
  • What is the best way to save some money while traveling?|102938

I will be driving to Colorado from Wisconsin and then back and am wondering what some folks do to save some $$ with out eating mustard sandwiches on there car travels across several states.

  • We usually eat breakfasts out ---cheapest and can be a substantial appetite suppressant, allowing you to eat a light lunch (buy staples at grocery and keep in an ice chest. Keeping a stash of celery, carrots, fresh fruit, and sandwich makings) Dinner can be a nice salad --that you can easily prepare at a camppground, park, or rest stop). A necessity is a small propane stove...allowing you to boil eggs (that you can keep peeled _ cold in plastic sndwich bags in ice chest), make pasta, make coffee/tea. Buying drinks/snack foods at convenience stores will make your wallet shrink at mach speed.

  • I am a big fan of food from home - always do it. Have cooler, will travel. Make ahead muffins, cold drinks, sandwiches you make yourself, cooked chicken, fresh fruit, dry cereal. All it takes is a fresh bag of ice to keep things cold. You can go into any store and buy a few staples, make those sand. on the way. Ask for 4 slices of lunch meat at the deli, buy 1 roll, people do it all the time

  • the best way is not to travel.

  • If you do actually have the money for the trip then just ignore this post. My answer isn_t for upstanding citizens. It_s for one who will get there by any means necessary.

Get a fish tank water pump or something similar and pump gas out of other peoples cars along the way to save on gas.

Stop at Dunkin_ Donuts and Pizza Places along the way get food out of the dumpsters behind them. They throw away perfectly good food if it doesn_t sell that day. Sometimes the pizza is still hot and they_re all in a pizza boxes so it_s not like they were contaminated or anything.

Of course, I don_t know how much money you need to save but there_s been times that I_ve been broke and absolutely had to get my self and a small group of others across the country. And we learned many tricks for staying on the road.

  • you dont have ot eat mustard sandwiches but you can save alot of money by not eating in restaurants and buying food from the supermarket,, cold cuts, bread, fruit, soda, instead of ordering the food ata restaurant

  • stay home

  • Stay in State Parks or KOAs rather than hotels. Learn to cook something besides mustard sandwiches and you can save a ton of money by not eating in restaurants.

  • sycho don_t travel

  • If you insist on eating out the best thing is to have a big breakfast or sleep in and skip it. If you skip it than have a big lunch because the meals are far cheaper than dinner meals. At dinner time get something small like a burger or salad! Also be sure to pack a cooler with your own water; juice; soda and snacks!
