What are the benefits of moving to Hawaii?|164897

If you had the opportunity to move to Hawaii, would you do it? If you had enough money saved, a place to rent, and a job there, and the only thing holding you back was to finally make the decision if you were going to pack up whatever you know right now, and make the move or not, would you do it?
I say life is short, why not spend it in Hawaii if at all possible. Do you agree with that?

  • I am ready to go there now!! Having visited there 6 times, absolutely love it there! Met some wonderful friends in person whom I have _met on the internet_, so it was awesome to meet them in person!
I would def give up the Michigan winters to live there!!!
The tradewinds are totally awesome, sitting on the lanai of a morning watching the waves of the ocean, smelling the scents of Hawaii, and especially the Aloha Spirit of the peoples!!!

  • Well I actually did this exact thing myself, I have lived here for 4 years and I love it. I did not even have a job or a place when I moved but now I know it was the best decision I have ever made!!

  • Hawaii is like no other!
i mean if you_ve never been to hawaii you probably can never imagine what the word _Aloha_ means. That_s just how it is. Only on hawaii can you feel so connected to the people on the island. I was born and raised there but now I am living on the mainland and I can tell you this is two differnet worlds. Only downfall is the cost of living. Seriously crazy so make sure you paln on buying a home or something along those lines. it_s why i moved.

  • I_m desperately trying to get back after living in Maui for a few years. The beauty was never lost on me and the people are the best. I do miss the pineapple because we can_t get it in Chicago without paying a fortune. I miss the warmth of the air, the water, and the people. I miss the laid back lifestyle and taking my stateside friends to the Luau.

  • Yes I would and am... My husband is there now and why not live the rest of your life or at least part of it there... and we did not do all the planning that you are talking about. he is working and has been there 3 months and I will follow in 3 months but I am going tomorrow to visit.... PARADISE especially with the one you LOVE

  • u go for it. wont know till u try.

  • It would just cost a lot of money... I_m in Hawaii and maybe the beauty is lost on me because I see it every day, but I don_t think it_s quite worth it.

  • If I had the opportunity to live in Hawaii I_d be there in a second. The only thing is I_d have to make good money. Enough to be able to afford a home there. Hawaii_s expensive but there_s a damn good reason... It truly is paradise!

  • I would do it, simply for the pineapple!

  • I did it...twice.

I had been to Hawaii (different islands) a few times and fell totally in love with the place, so when my husband and I got married, we moved to the Big Island. We loved it but unfortunately weren_t well-prepared financially, so when my husband was offered a big raise and promotion at the company he worked for in California, we moved back to the mainland. We said that we_d work hard to pay off all our debt and be back in Hawaii for good in 3-5 years.

Within a couple of years we had decent money coming in. We paid off our debt and when we decided to separate in 2005, I applied for a job in Hawaii, got it, and moved back to the islands.

  • I live in Hawaii and the best part of living here is the Aloha Spirit, the beaches and the non stop sunshine. Live Aloha!!

  • The only benefits I can say about Hawaii is the nice weather and the low crime rate. Hawaii is a nice place to live once you lived all the other places you wanted to live.**

  • i wouldn_t. i was there (Oahu _ Maui) for almost 2 weeks. Fell in love with the beauty, warmth, and pineapple (many other things as well), but id miss seeing snow on christmas or going alpine skiing and things like that. would i go there again for vacation? in a heartbeat, but not to live.
  • Is it possible to rent a hotel in Orlando, FL without a major credit card, and without being 21?|139962

I_m going to go to Halloween Horror Nights, and I don_t have a credit card, but would like to stay in a hotel close by to have an extra day at Universal. Does anyone know a place?

  • Hotels will let you pay cash once you get there, so that won_t be a problem. It_s the making the reservation. Sometimes, if you call the hotel directly and tell the person at the desk that you don_t have a card but wish to reserve the room, they will work with you. If not, ask to speak to the manger. Be super-polite, volunteer to leave some additional deposit money for the length of your stay or offer to send them a money order for half the deposit in advance. They will let you, it_s just sometimes finding the right person to let you.

  • Most hotels/motels require that you are at least 18 to check in, sometimes 21 and sometimes even 25. The age minimum is totally up to the property.

As for not having a credit card, they would not hold the room for you without one but you can use your debit card number if it has a VISA or MasterCard logo on it (they shouldn_t charge anything unless you don_t show up without calling first or call to cancel after their cancellation deadline). Ask if you can pay cash when you actually check in.

  • Most hotels let you stay if you_re over 18. If you_re picky about hotel it would be best to have a credit or debit card. If you_re not, most hotels accept walk-ins especially this time of year since it_s less crowded. We did it twice. Just show up after 3 or 4pm and ask for a room. But it would be best to use credit card; borrow one from a parent or someone close and pay them back.

Orlando Metropolitan Resort or International Plaza Resort and Spa

Try going to HHN on Weekdays it_s cheaper and less crowded!

Edit- For the person who put Kissimmee...There are nice hotels there...More to the Disney area though =D Ramada Westgate is great and cheaper. They have an indoor pool!...But this person wants to stay near the parks. Most of the hotels on the source have free transportation to the parks and go until late at night. If you_re driving parking is cheaper after 5pm (I think)...right on time of HHN.

  • You should go to a real travel agency. They can make the reservation withou you having a credit card, though you may have to pre-pay and also give the hotel a significant cash deposit. Not sure about the age 21 issue in FL, but that is a hotel policy and not law in most states (law is usually age 18).

  • I would have someone like your parents call and make reservations with a credit card then pay cash when you check out.
Other than that you may be able to find something on the internet and call in advance, there are some cheap hotels around Kissimee. But I would not stay in them

  • unfortunately to check into hotels you need to be a legal adult. so sadly unless you have someone who is 21 or older to go with you, you wont be able to check in.

  • Most hotels will require a credit card for _incidentals_ in case you destroy the room.
Maybe go in with a friend who does have a credit card or a parent?

  • no
  • How much does it cost to send a gift to New York?|112299

I want to send my friend a gift for Valentine_s Day, and I live in Southern California, and she lives in upstate New York. I was wondering if anyone would know about how much it would cost to send the gift for shipping and handling? It_s just a teddy bear with a letter. About five-ten bucks or...? Please help me!

  • Weigh the gift and go to www.usps.com for the cost to send it
  • What is it like to drive in North Dakota in the winter?|192795

I have a subaru. Will that be OK? I currently live in Florida and I_ve traveled to Alaska where they have to plug in their cars so that the engine blocks don_t freeze. Is that true in ND?

  • I_m from Bismarck. I can honestly say we have had some weird winters lately. I don_t think we have had more than a foot of snow in the last few years combined ( in Bismarck anyway ). It gets bitterly cold in the january months though. I also drive a subaru and have never plugged it in. No problems here. Plus with your subaru you_ll have no issues getting around.

And yes you can add a engine block heater at any time. Shouldn_t cost more than 100 or so. What part of ND are you moving to? Maybe I can show you around if its Bismarck. Only takes a day. lol

  • I_m from Manitoba (just across the border) so I know exactly what its like. Your Subaru will do fine for traction and I_m sure I don_t have to tell driving on snow is a lot different so take it slow till your used to it. We do plug in our cars when it gets really cold but if your car is built in the last few years and is in good condition it should start unless the the temperature drops below -30 celcius (-22F) It almost always gets bitter cold the first week of january so it depends when your coming. The coldest I_ve ever been outside for and extended period of time was -54c (-65.2) with the wind chill
  • What areas in Los Angeles are the most dangerous to live in?|122518

I planning on moving to L.A in the next two years and i want to live in the _good_ or _nice_ part of L.A because i hear about a lot of shootings, gang violence and racially motivated killings in certain parts of L.A i just don_t know which parts they are .i know that every city/county has crime and violence but some places have it more than others.

  • Seriously, some areas of compton are very bad. but other area are very nice people don_t realize that some area of compton are very expensive and have nice big singlehome lotss and wide streets.

The worst areas of los angeles is the majority of the ares running along the 110 freeway. the areas that are actually part of the city of los angeles places like (willowbrook, watts, athens, mt washington, cypress park, vermont harbor)

  • 95% of greater LA is safe. You can tell the dangerous areas as soon as you drive into one. They are the ones where people have bars on their home windows. Specially the areas where they also bar the second floor windows.

The rest of greater LA is fine.

  • Boyz N Da Hood is not really a legit documentary and NatGeo only does these specials for money.

Plus, all you need to do is believe these documentaries to know where the bad areas are. You can be a resident of Kokomo, Indiana and even know what they are.

  • It_s not too hard to figure out. Most of the news is made down in South LA, Compton, and Boyle Heights.

Not that you need to worry about that right now... Just make sure your resume shines, and that you have a lot of cash and experience when you do get here.

  • you mean LA county?
compton is terrible, east LA...any place in/near those cities.
compton has tons of shootings/gang violence...
good areas are La Verne, San Marino, Pasadena...very expensive though.

  • compton , inglewood
