What is there to do around Eastern Illinois University?|196934

i am planning on going to EIU in the fall of 2009, and just wondering what there is to do in charleston.

  • I grew up near Charleston and have two degrees from Eastern. If you want to go to college be willing to study and complete your courses and degree(s) on time. If you can do the required studying and make the grades the first year or two then that frees you up to have more free time to investigate the area around Charleston. Charleston is a small city but Eastern is a great university. There are a lot of historic sites as well as other interesting places to visit around Charleston. With a car you can travel around the area within two hours and see much more. Use the internet to find the exact places which may interest you. A lot of the sites around Charleston are on the theme of President Lincoln.

  • Jackson Av Coffee (Live Music), Bars/Bands(usu. let in freshman), Movie theater, Parties(you don_t nec. have to drink), Champaign is an hour away and they have clubs that let in 19 y/o_s, Campus activities(you get a weekly calendar and there are tons). Overall, its what you make it.. :)

  • How can i volunteer in an animal shelter in Chicago?|174383

Those idiots want you to be 18 to volunteer! I am 17 right now and need a website where being 18 is not required.

  • Talk to your alderman. For a few bucks he can fix anything.

  • First, calling them _idiots_ is neither fair or mature. Many organizations that use volunteers are prevented from using anyone under 18 because of legal and insurance reasons. If you have tried all the shelters, and they all say you must be 18, then you just need to wait. However, you could also try calling _Rescue_ places...the groups that rescue animals from shelters so they will not be euthanized. Also call some vets offices, some of them will let you volunteer in their offices. Keep tying, but do understand that the people that work there just have to obey the laws.

  • wait till your 18
go to a shelter and say
_i want to volunteer in an animal shelter_
  • What are famous and good food spots to visit in sanfrancisco?|172293

can you help me find good placeses to visit in san francisco?
and good resturant? what is sanfrancisco well known for and especially in foods? what resturant? any sites, placese to visit?

  • San Francisco is a great food town. They are famous for sourdough bread. As an old port city it is known for its seafood especially crab and has a famous Fisherman_s Wharf. Gharadelli chocolates and the bar that claims to have invented the Irish Coffee are nearby. The whole Fisherman_s wharf area is, as you might imagine. a major tourist area. If you drink beer try to visit Anchor Steam brewery, a historic and great brewery. Beyond that the city is a great city for restaurants. You_ll definitely want to try the Chinese and visit the famous Chinatown but you will also find cuisines from all around the world and some of the world_s best chefs. Based on your tastes ask when you are here and you_ll get a lot of good suggestions.

Enjoy the city, it is one of the great cities in the world.
  • What bulding sits where Tamanny Hall used to be in Manhattan?|185774

It used to be on the north side of East 14th Street between 3rd Avenue and Irving Place. Multimap shows a large white building with a clock tower but that_s not Tamanny Hall.

  • Tammany Hall is still there...it_s on East 14th/15th Streets between Irving Place _ Broadway.

  • not much there now, here is a link to it

  • What is the best way of transporation to get from Itasca to downtown Chicago where all the bars/clubs are?|123953

I will be visiting Chicago next week but will be staying in Itasca. I_d like to visit the bars in downtown but what are the different ways of getting there and cheaper ways than a cab.

  • There_s a Metra station right at Irving Park (rt 19) and Walnut. Easiest way, it_ll take you right to union station. Lots of places within walking distance or short cab ride.

  • You should try the metra or call RTA for more detailed info. The number is 836-0000 if your calling from any local telephone number. Give them your starting location, time of departure, and ending location and you should be on your way. However, Itasca is mayb 20 miles west of Chicago so there may be some buses involved also. But keep in mind you_ll save taking this route and remember to be safe and of course have FUN.

  • Check out this website:
    http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com/
and be sure to put the address of the hotel you are staying at (you can always ask for the address at the front desk if you are not sure). As has been previously mentioned (and you can confirm this on
    http://www.metrarail.com)
you can take a Metra Train to Chicago_s Union Station from Itasca but not knowing where you are staying in relation to the train station it might be a mile or two away.

One word to the wise....most bars in the downtown area stay open until 3-4am....Metra_s last train out is around 1am. If its feasible you might want to check the El (Blue Line) and ways to get from the O_Hare area to Itasca.

Have fun in Chicago next week!
