My Boyfriend and I are going to Florida in July. How much spending money should we take?|165302

I have paid for my boyfriend and I to go to Florida for 2 weeks in July for his 21st birthday. I have paid for all the flights, car hire and park tickes, also i have family that i can stay with in Winter Park (Florida). We don_t want to stay with family every night as it is a 40 minute drive to disney so we are looking at spending most of our nights in motels. We also want to do a lot of shopping. So how much spending money would you recommend us to take so that we can have a good time and not have to worry about money running out?

  • Motels: $40-60/day
    Meals: $20-60/day
Gas is $2.50 a gallon and your vehicle will do between 15 and 20mpg.

Since you have no other expenses, you should be able to work out how much you need from that.

Minor advice.. buy a cooler and some 24 packs of soda. It will be much cheaper to buy a bag of ice each morning and drink your own soda that you have purchased from the supermarket.

  • That sounds right. Things are extremely expensive there. You stay in motels, that will cost you an arm and leg, if you have to get your money from an insurance company. Tell
Bonnie and Danny in Orlando that granny says hi. Thanks

  • How much you_ll spend on motels will depend a lot on how _high-quality_ you want them to be. There are some very basic (clean, with bed and bath) type motels along Highway 192 near Disney that go for about $30-40 a night. Elsewhere you could pay up to $80-$100 a night or more. Summer is the busy season here, so I strongly recommend making advance reservations for anywhere you want to stay.

As for spending money, a lot depends on where you shop. If you buy souvenirs inside the parks, you_ll spend a fortune. However, there are a lot of gift stores outside of the parks (they look cheesy, but they have decent stuff) where you_ll pay a lot less. There are also a lot of outlet centers around Orlando, if you_re planning to do _real_ shopping, including the Prime Outlets and Lake Buena Vista outlets near Disney and the Belz Factory Outlets north of Universal Studios area.

Finally, you have to consider meals. Park restaurants are unique and often have decent food, but they are VERY expensive. If you eat at restaurants outside the parks you can eat at pretty much any chain restaurant you can think of for a lot less (and probably better food in general).

    I_d figure it this way:

Say you spend 7 nights at a discount motel at $40 a night: that_s $280 (before 20% taxes [seriously, 20%]).

Then figure you eat dinner out every night you_re in Florida, 12-14 nights at about $35 a meal for two (at least): $420-$490

If you also eat breakfast ($10) and lunch ($20) out every day for 12-14 days, you_re talking $120-$140 for breakfast and $240-$280 for lunch

So depending on how long you_re actually staying, how many nights you stay in a motel (and where), and how often you eat out (and where you eat), you_ll need anywhere from $940-$1190 just for a basic motel room and cheap meals. If you eat at nicer restaurants, stay at a nicer hotel/motel, or do more shopping, you_ll want more. Plus the cost of gas is rising, so factor in the cost of filling your car up a few times while you_re here.

I_d say you should start with at least $2000 to cover your basic costs and then add on however much you_ll want to bring for shopping.

  • $10,000
  • How do you gain in state residency in the state of Alabama?|149525

I am an out of state student attending college in Alabama next year and was wondering how to gain residency...I ve researched all of the requirements but there are no guarantees. Does anybody know how?...Or has anyone actually done it before?

    Thanks

  • It really depends on which college you are attending as they all seem to decide residency status on their own. It looks like your biggest obstacle is establishing intent. If you are residing in Alabama for the sole purpose of going to college, then you will not be considered a resident. Some of the requirements I_ve seen include:

_A student must be a citizen of the United States, prove full-time employment within the state of Alabama, provide evidence of having filed an Alabama tax return as a resident of the state of Alabama, and prove continuous residence in the state for a purpose other than attending school._

_Residence in Alabama is residing at a single location with the intent of remaining there indefinitely, as opposed to living in Alabama solely to obtain an education._

_To become a resident of Alabama for tuition purposes, three requirements must be met:
    1.Twelve Months Continuous Physical Presence
2.More substantial connections with the state of Alabama than with any other state.
3.Intent to Establish a Domicile for purposes other than that of a student residence _

  • Unless it has changed, it was 30 days residency, application for a car license, or employment withing the state

  • ppppppppppppp
  • What general or grocery stores are there on the North Rim of Grand Canyon?|137885

We are taking a camping trip to the North Rim of Grand Canyon. I need to plan what food I have to take with me and what I can purchase once I get there. Any info would be appreciated as I couldn_t find much online... Thanks!

  • The North Rim of the Grand Canyon (also known as the _Arizona Strip_) is one of the least developed places in the southwest with no major towns and only a few very small communities.

At the North Rim of the National Park itself, there is a gift shop at the lodge that focuses mostly on books, t-shirts, postcards, etc but does have a few other more pratical items like granola bars and sunscreen - but certaily not enough to prepare whole meals (there is a dininghall and snackbar there too).

About an hour north of the park at the crossroads of Jacob Lake, you will find a combination lodge, cafe, store and gas station (Jacob Lake Inn). The store has a couple rows of the most essential food items and supplies - about what you would find in a typical Circle-K or 7-11 convenience store. Although their stock of supplies are limited, their homemade cookies are some of the best in the country and worth stopping for.

The nearest _real store_ to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon would be in the twin communities of Fredonia, Arizona and Kanab, Utah which straddle either side of Arizona-Utah border about an hour further north of Jacob Lake. The last time I was there (about 2 years ago), Fredonia had a small family-run store and the somewhat larger Kanab had the area_s only true full-size, full-service grocery store (Jubilee Foods Store). Kanab is also the closest place to the North Rim where you will find a variety (although limited) of hotels and restuarants. The Rocking V Cafe is excellent.

Beyond Jacob Lake and Fredonia-Kanab, the two next closest good-sized towns (and the last ones that most people are likely to pass through on their way to the North Rim) is Page, Arizona (near Lake Powell) and Saint George, UT. These are both have a wide range of stores, services and facilities.

One final note... due to its lesser visitation and cold snowy winters (the North Rim is at an elevation of 8,000 feet) most of the facilities at the North Rim of the Park (including the store, lodge and visitor center) shut down for the winter in mid-October.
  • What is the cheapest way to get from the airport in Fort Lauderdale to Miami International?|199096

I_m flying into Fort Lauderdal but I_m taking a cruise out of the Port of Miami, and am willing to travel from Fort Lauderdale to the Miami Airport, and then to take a taxi from the Miami Airport to the Port if that would be the cheapest option. Rent a car for the day maybe, and return it to the Miami Airport? Probably not taxi all the way from Fort Lauderdale. What do you guys think?

  • 36 bucks
