Whats going on in Illinois with the state parks and historic landmarks?|110105

I just caught a bit of it, that the state is closing a bunch of them down, including many sites connected to Abraham Lincoln? Is this a funding issue? Does someone know the inside scoop on this?

  • The state plans to close 11 state parks, including Kickapoo State Park, and 13 historical sites as a result of a $2 Billion state shortfall. They will also be laying off 73 employees, as described in the link below. Listed below are the sites they plan to close:

A spokesperson for the governor stated that the office had no choice but to make the budget cuts because of a faltering economy and an unbalanced state budget. Once entrances to state parks are barred on November 1, 2009 the public will no longer be allowed to enter the sites. Any member of the public entering the closed state parks after November 1 could be arrested and charged with trespassing.
  • How do i Get there successfully without problems?|109707

well basically im 37 living in the United Kingdom with my son who is 13, its just the two of us, and we want to move to America, ive gathered up enough money i guess, but we wish to move permanently to America and i was wondering where do i start? you know legally wise?

  • I am sorry to tell you that it is nearly impossible for U.K. citizens to immigrate to the U.S. if you have an immediate family member there, they may sponsor your application...this is called _family based immigration._ If you have a very rare and outstanding job skill...there is employment based immigration...difficult. There is a slight possibility of a temporary work permit if you are very skilled and can find an employer to give you a contract. The usual way people apply is through the Diversity Lottery Program. U.K. citizens are not currently eligible to apply thru this because the u.k is over their quota for this 5 yr. period. this program takes years, lots of money, incredible luck. There are many questions exactly like yours on Answers every day. There are thousands and thousands of people in the U.K. who want to live in America...and millions more world wide. Immigrating to America is probably the most difficult thing on earth to do. Nobody realizes the difficulties until they seriously look into it. Even people who came to America from the u.k 10 or more years ago, have told people on here that now it is almost impossible. You can hire an immigration lawyer...who will take your money and tell you what you can read for yourself. See site below to read about immigration and all the types of visas. you will find that they are extremely restrictive. Would be wise to consider a different goal.
  • Does the rules regarding a permit or driving age change from long island to upstate ny?|166623

i just recently moved from long island, to upstate NY and my dad is saying that in rural areas, the rules for driving and such change. does the age you can get a permit change? do the restrictions change? thank you.

  • The rules for GETTING a permit stay the same throughout the state. As for actually USING it, there are varying rules for junior drivers in different parts of the state:

  • If you have NYS learner_s permit you can drive with a licensed adult. I_m not sure what he thinks will be different about that. Once you get your license if it is a class DJ, then you have not drive after 9 in the evening or before 5 in the morning.

  • I believe that NYC has rules concerning junior licenses, but that the rest of the state is the same.

  • What is the best way to get around chicago?|156420

i need to know the fastest/best way i can get to my work at e. 93rd st coming from w. madison. ive checked out CTA and the bus ride takes more than 1 hr. Is taking a taxi smart enough?

  • driving there would take just as long
take the green line CTA train to Randolph/Wabash then walk over to the Metra Millenium station for the South Chicago train to 93rd and Baltimore st

  • Driving would take just as long as the CTA, plus you have the frustration of sitting in gridlocked traffic twice a day every day, which makes driving every day a nightmare. Parking is also outrageously expensive downtown. If you are on the bus or El, you can at least read a book or magazine. A one hour taxi ride would cost you around 50-60 bucks each way, so I would guess that_s too expensive. I took a taxi a couple of weeks ago from downtown to my hotel near O_Hare, and it cost me $53!!

  • well the train taxi or your own vehicle would be the best options

  • the weiner mobile.

  • Hello, you can take a taxi to where your work is but I think it would be too much money to afford one but you would like to be safe too.
I would definately take the train, it_s a little quicker.

  • You can take a taxi if you have enough money! I bet it would cost over $30. Have you tried the El? It should be much faster than a bus. If your workplace doesn_t have an El stop nearby, take the El as close as you can, then take a bus. Make sure that the bus you choose is operating at the time you need to ride. I assume that you do not have a car, but if you do, you can drive on lake Shore drive--use Mapquest to figure out the details.

  • The CTA is the best and cheapest way to get from West Madison to 93rd St.

If that_s not fast enough for you and you don_t think you will get there in time, here_s a tip: get up earlier.

  • Driving yourself is the most prefered way to get around in Chicago. Taking a taxi, day after day will cost a kids_ college tuition.
