What are some fun concerts coming to Texas this summer?|187024

I have nothing but work going on this summer, and I really want to go to some good concerts for mini vacations!! Any ideas?

  • American idiots are coming TX
OH I meant to say American idols

  • Dora the Explorer Live!!
  • How is the Malden area in boston?|155795

I am planning to move to the malden area in Boston. I would like to know how safe it is and if it is a good area to live . Please give any information about that area.

  • I lived in Malden for 3 years. It is a nice town, very diverse but very convenient to the T to downtown Boston. It is a somewhat blue collar town, but has some nice restaurants _ is in a great location - close to Route 1 in Saugus _ all the stores that you need.

  • Malden is actually a separate city from Boston but it_s good. The orange line of the subway goes there, and it_s nice.

  • Like the first person, I lived in Granada Highlands, which is right on the edge of Malden by Route 1. There were some good things about that - the Square One Mall is in Saugus, a five minute drive north; Revere Beach is about 10 minutes away, and Boston is less than 15-30 minutes by car (depending what part of the city). The only bad part about my apartment is that it wasn_t close to the T, so I had to drive to the station. Like others have said, try to find something near Malden Center so you can commute to the city easily (and more cheaply, parking is $3.50 a day at the station). If I had to move there all over again, I would consider it very important to be near Malden Center instead of Route 1 - I went to Boston MUCH more than Saugus or Revere.

Rent is decent, all things considered. It_s a reasonable commute to the city, and isn_t too _suburb-y_ - there_s no chain stores like Wal-Mart or Target in Malden. It_s simply a nice little community of homes and mom-and-pop stores. I don_t remember much crime in my year-plus there (I just moved away 6 weeks ago). If it weren_t for the view of Boston from my window, and the traffic, I wouldn_t have really realized how close the city was. It felt very small-community to me.

Overall, I really liked the town. It was nice, safe, and there were lots of great little restaurants. I found it a great area to live, and miss it very much.

  • I_ve lived in Malden, It_s not a bad area at all, of course there are bad elements everywhere, Malden on the whole is pretty nice.
Easy access to Boston Via the T or even by Car.
Rents aren_t outrageous, remember your just outside the city.
    For more info see:

  • Not a bad place to live as long as you are near the T station (Malden) and not so far away (cause having to walk to the Train Station during the winter months will be brutal).

It_s about 10 mins from downtown Boston using the T so it_s not bad at all.

  • Malden is pretty good. You should try to make sure you are near the T. If you can get there easily, you can be in downtown Boston in less than 20 minutes. Also, if you have a car, you_ll have easy access to Route One where there_s a mall and lots of restaurants, and Medford which has a good amount of stuff too, both are just minutes away. And downtown Malden has a few decent restaurants and bars. I_d say Exchange Street Bistro is my favorite spot- amazing tapas, good drinks, a fun spot right near the Malden T! Also, Pearl Street Station resturant has some of the best food around. Amazing steak tips, and great pizza. I threw a party there and everyone loved EVERYTHING. That almost never happens at a party. And it_s cheap too. The bar is great. The neighborhoods are generally as safe as anywhere else. Don_t leave your car open and running, but you aren_t in any huge danger either. The rent is reasonable as well. You_ll have to use some judgement for the exact location, obviously.

  • Malden is a very interesting place. It is the most successfully mixed and intergrated multicultural community in Massachusetts (earning the city almost an extra hundred million dollars school construction funds under a Mass. state program). It also has a good number of grad students and a small gay community. Transportation is excellent; many bus lines and the city is also served by commuter rail and the Orange Line subway. Rents are among the cheapest in metro Boston. With all this one would think one would find a most vibrant downtown and other commercial areas with plenty of specialty ethnic shops and lots of varied restaurants and brisk pedestrian traffic. But no!! Most Maldeans work or study hard but then go to work or university and party elsewhere. There are only 4 or 5 really good Italian restaurants, 2 Vietnamese, one incredibly excellent pan-Asian and one Szechuan, one good Irish pub, 2 decent Indian places, several neighborhood joints, all of them small, plus a decent larger popular general American cuisine place. There is a Brazilian buffet just over the line in a next door city. Notably all of these eateries are locally owned. There is but one chain outlet - an Applebees. Otherwise it is all fast food or Chinese or pizza and sub shop take out (some of them good to be sure and again almost all of them locally owned). There are only 3 large supermarkets - 2 of them outlets of a major regional chain and the other an Oriental foods supermarket of a local Chinese chain. For general merchandise other than than found at dollar stores and one hardware store one must go to nearby communities.

  • I just to live in Granada Highlands for a couple of months and found it a nice area to live in. Malden Center seemed quite nice although I only went into it one night and had a good time.

  • no matter where you go there are good and bad areas! but everyone_s personal preference is different! it_s very diverse but overall not a bad area!
  • What are some fun things to do in Santa Barbara?|165826

My wife and I are planning a 4 day vacation in Santa Barbara. Any suggestions on things to do during the day? Nightlife? Restaurants?

  • I_ve lived in Santa Barbara for the past 15 years and can honestly say that it is one of the best places in the world to visit.

Start your trip at Stearns Wharf. Visit the wine tasting room. It costs around $5 for 5 tastes of local wines. Then, walk to the end of the pier to look in the hole in the middle of the pier. There are beautiful starfish there. If you spend a few dollars, you can get your parking ticket validated.

Next, drive up State Street and visit Historic El Paseo. There is a free museum there. There is also an awesome Sunday Brunch (and great Friday night happy hour) at the restaurant there.

Paseo Nuevo Mall has a good Nordstrom and Macys in an outdoor mall setting. A few blocks up State Street will take you to the Museum of Art. Being originally from a big city, I was pleasantly surprised by the incredible collection here.

Great restaurants include Montecito Cafe, Taj cafe, Pierre La Fond, Aldos, and Restaurant Kai.

Next, drive up State Street and take a right on Mission Drive. Then, take a left at the dead end and you will end up at the Mission. It offers a great self-guided tour and includes many indigenous artefacts and history of how life was 200 years ago. As the previous poster recommended, visit the natural history museum. It is small but nice.

On your next day, go wine tasting. (Bring a designated driver or hire a car if possible) Drive along San Marcos Pass and have lunch at Cold Springs Tavern, a historic stage coach stop.

When wine tasting, focus on the three _B_s Brander for Sauvignon Blanc, Bridlewood for Chardonnay, and Beckman for other Rhone Varietals. Pack a picnic lunch and have a _Sideways_ trip.

Be sure to visit Red Rock in the Los Padres National Forest. If you like horseback riding, go to Rancho Oso. Drive along Alamo Pintado Road to see the miniature horses. On the way back, visit the Ostrich farm and feed an Emu.

Also visit Nojoqui Falls on your way back to Santa Barbara. It has a beautiful walkway.

Nightlife: Soho has great live bands, concerts in the park on Thursday nights are popular during the summer, and you really can_t beat seeing a concert at the Lobero or Arlington. These locations draw famous musicians in a small setting.

    Have a wonderful trip.

  • Find a bar with a patio and sit and laught at all of the shallow, bleach-blonde, movie star wanna bes that walk by.

  • I live in Santa Barbara. During the day: Wine tasting...you can download maps online and drive yourself, or there are companies that will pick you up and take you from winery to winery. Butterfly Beach in Montecito is a great beach for relaxing on the sand and taking in the sun (or arrive in the evening for a sunset stroll). Shopping along State Street and a stroll along Sterns Wharf is nice to do. Take a tour of the Mission and then drive up to Francesci Park for a beautiful city view. The Santa Barbara Bontanic Gardens are beautiful. Whale Watching is great this time of year, too. There are amazing hikes close by -- great views, waterfalls, etc., and on the way back stop for a drink or lunch at Cold Springs Tavern. At night -- plenty of great restaurants (Seville, El Paseo, Brophy Bros., BrewHouse, Piranha, Elements, Chads, Palace Grill are some good ones). For an after dinner drink and maybe some music -- Soho, Rocks, Blue Agave, James Joyce are good. I_d also recommend Beach Break Cafe and/or East Beach Grill for breakfast.

  • Santa Barbara has one of the best zoos I_ve ever visited, especialy the gorilla exhibit.

  • If you like museums...they have a really neat natural history museum there. I always visit when I go.

  • Take a ride in one of the bicycle rickshaws.

  • Go to Yahoo travel and enter Santa Barbara, Ca and check out what others say about that city. Have a wonderful time. My wife and I always do.
  • Is car rust a big problem in Houston because of all the rain and humidity?|102109

    Moving to Houston soon...

I know that flooding is a big problem in Houston and obviously that can cause serious damage to a car, but let_s assume that my car won_t have flood damage to it.

  • I_m sorry, but flooding really isn_t that big of a deal in Houston. I don_t know why everyone who doesn_t live here believes that it is. I_ve been through hurricanes here and never even had rain come up to curb level. There has been street flooding after a major afternoon thunderstorm or so, but it is gone in under an hour.

You stand no more risk of rust on your car here than any other city with similar rainfall. Most car rust comes from salt used to remove ice from roads in northern cities. Hell, one of my cars is 26 years old and has hardly any rust at all. Most cars come with underbody anti rust treatment anyway.

  • NO what usually causes rust is road salt in winter areas. or salt water spray from coastal areas.

  • William K nailed it.

  • No, rust is not a problem at all here.

  • uh no...
  • What is a Good place to take My family on vacation?|100018

hi i am 26 my wife 22 and my son is 3. I live in Tennessee and 2 times a year i go on vacation, Usually to Myrtle Beach in the summer. Any way im planning a trip for my family to go somewhere in the month of march, for my anniversary. So where should i go? I also would not mind flying to the bahamas or some place warm. We will spend 7 days where ever we go.

  • The Grand Canyon, Utah and Las Vegas. You can see incredibly beautiful scenery and then have some great fun. Las Vegas has really changed and is now catering to families much more than it used to. Utah has 5 incredible national parks. If you do Utah then go to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. It_s much better than the tourist infested South Rim. This way you can at least see Bryce Canyon and Zion national parks in Utah. From there to Las Vegas is a pretty short drive. From Bryce National Park to Las Vegas is about 4 hours.
    Have fun!!

  • :Las Vegas I live here but was a visitor for several years.
This is the greatest place on earth and the kid will love it

  • Australia. Aussie Aussie Aussie Ooi Ooi Ooi. Best place on the planet. Queensland in March...More than I can Afford and I_m an Aussie

  • It really depend on what type of place you want to spend your vacation, whether you_re looking at the beach, or something different like in the woods, a good place to shop or whatever. If you really want something different, try the Langkawi Island in Malaysia. It_s a free duty island, have nice beaches, warm and hot weather, you can go island hopping, rent a car at reasonable price and drive around the island as you pleased
  • How do i get from Manhattan Beach, CA to Oxnard, CA without a car?|146422

So I_m going on a 2 week vacation to Manhattan beach with my best friend and planning on going up to Oxnard the first week (love the beach, embassy suites resort and the big outlet there). Any ideas of how to get there without a car? I have a license but it_s European and I_m 19.

  • Your European license is valid in the United States if the friends you are visiting would let you borrow a car, but you are too young to rent/hire a car. Most companies require you to be at least 23. and some 25.

To travel from Manhattan Beach to Oxnard (sounds like someone clearing their throat) there is a Metrolink commuter train that operates from L.A. Union Station to Oxnard. You can view the schedules at _www.metrolinktrains.com_. Click on _Schedules_ then click _Ventura County Line_. Remember this is a commuter train that only operates certain times, and days. The fare is $12.00 each way. The LAST train leaves each direction roughly 6:15 pm (1815 hours).

The website for the bus schedules to get you from Manhattan Beach to Union Station is playing games with me today. One source is _www.socaltraonport.org_. Maybe you_ll have better luck with it. Sorry I couldn_t help with that one..

  • you might want to check carpertina or oxnard beaches since they would be closer
to what you want to and amtrak even has a stop at Carpinteria
matthann beach and oxnard are about 30 miles apart
now depending on what day and time you want to leave
LADOT has their line 438 which will take you from Mannhattan beach to
Los Angeles, say to 7th and Figeroura take to 1st or Temple)
and then board the D dash bus to Union station
then you can take amtrak to oxnard
note the 438 only runs in the AM to los angeles

  • Get to LAX.. They have a bus that runs a few times a day to the Ventura Airport called: Ventura County Airporter. Also there is Roadrunner Shuttle that goes there. I don_t know the Ventura County Airporter_s phone number, but Roadrunner is: 1-800-247-7919 Both leave from LAX and you do not have to be on an airplane to ride on them.

  • Go to LAX and get the Flyaway Bus to Union Station.

From there take the Metrolink, Ventura County Line.

  • Train plane bus sub way or u can rent a car if u dont have one

  • train or do some research on the buses
