How is Disney World the first week of February/last week of January?|115294

I_m trying to plan out my Disney World vacation and I_m wondering how the parks are during the last week of January and the first week of February. How is the weather? Crowds?

Also, bonus points if anyone can tell me when Disney will have 2010 vacation booking stuff up on their website.

  • that is a great time to go.
the crowd levels are at their lowest.
the average day time temp for that time of year is 72 and the average overnight low is 50. it doesn_t rain much at all during that time of year and is nice and sunny all day long.

i would pack a little of everything from shorts, to capris, to jeans. and be sure to bring a jacket for the early mornings and late at night.
but also make sure you bring your bathingsuit cuz it should be warm enough during the day to go for a swim and if you are staying on disney property they heat their pools to 82 degrees so it is quite warm.
and you_re gonna need your sunscreen too.

mid august is when disney decides if they are upping their prices and that is when you can start booking vacations for 2010.

  • According to yourfirstvisit.net, January and February have pros and cons. The crowds are smaller and the prices are generally lower. However, January and February are peak attraction closure times. Also, often one of Disney_s water parks are closed during this time, too.

So you can save money and have smaller crowds to fight, but you may miss out on some of the attractions. You_ll have to decide what is more important.

  • I did alot of researching and asking around when we planned our trip to Disney. Really, the main consideration with Disney World is the heat and the crowds. So late January or early February is a good time to go on both counts. We ended up choosing the middle of May, while school was still in session for most people and it was fabulous. The weather was warm enough to go swimming and enjoy the trip to the coast that we took. You will want to make sure to check the Disney calendar to make sure your visit does not coincide with any arranged group days that might offend you, annoy you, or just generally bug you! You are going to have so much fun!
  • How far is Graceland from the Memphis Airport?|113204

My husband and I would like to plan a day trip out there and were wondering what the best transportation choice would be.

  • Well Graceland is about 4 miles away from the airport, should take about 10 minutes to get there. A cab should not be that much to get you there, and there are a ton of them at the airport. Since you know that it is only about 4 miles let them know you know so they take you the short way. I really have never had an issue with a cab before but, I like to let them know I did my research and I know where I am going.
There are also a few shuttle companies that go from the airport to Graceland; you will need to schedule them in advance. I have found that shuttles are more expensive than taxi_s, especially when you are going to a place so close. Most run between $15-$25 per a person and the prices varies from round trip to one way.

    http://www.tenncoexpress.com

Also check out the Memphis visitors website, it has all kinds of helpful info, used it when we planned out trip there.

    www.memphistravel.com

You can email them and ask their recommendations for cab companies, this is a free service, these people are local and they know their stuff! I contact the visitors center for all my trips and they are always helpful!

Graceland is a great trip, if you are a AAA member be sure to show your card it saves you 10% which really helps. Also I was able to find a few internet deals that saved me about $5 per a person and since tickets were like $37 per person to do ALL of the tours at Graceland this really helped! Here is the site I found for that:

    http://www.memphistours.us

Well I hope this helps have a great time at Graceland!!!!

  • the Memphis airport is on Shelby drive, about 4 miles from Elvis Presley drive. a quick cab ride down the road. Graceland tickets are about 35.00 each, depending on what you are wanting to see.
  • Where is the nearest shop to Wynn Las Vegas for bottled water and potato chips?|139186

I_m going to be staying at the Wynn, when I arrive I_ll need to stock up on snacks and water, but pay a reasonable price! Is there a CVS or something nearby? Some precise directions would really help. Thanks.

  • Walk across the strip to Fashion Show Mall there are a couple of ABC Stores there that are fairly reasonably priced and very close, one bridge no streets to cross. And the CVS up the road is also a good answer.

  • Yes there_s a CVS and Wallgreens in the immediate area. No more than a 2 block walk. Surprise. Sometimes in the resort convenience store cigarettes and water are just as cheap as in a retail store. THey get you on a newspaper will doubel the price at times.

    have a great trip

  • There_s a CVS just up the strip past the Riviera and Circus Circus. It_s a short hike. When you come out on the strip take a right. 2700 Las Vegas Blvd.

  • I_m sure there is a gift shop in hotel if you want to buy a 7$ bag of chips. Other then that, the CVS up the street is the best option.

  • I was there in August (so bottled water was a top priority) and I seem to recall Walgreens being very close to the Wynn. Have fun and good luck!
  • Where is the best and nearest place to Los Angeles to watch the Meteor shower on August 11 and 12?|115692

I really want it to be good because it will be my first time seeing one. I_ve check and found Joshua Tree National Park. Isn_t there any nearer park that can provide me the same view? Please help me.

  • Mt Pinos is a little closer.

    Lancaster is OK, too.
  • Philadelphia - is it safe to walk from 30th Street station to Univ of Penn campus?|125911

I haven_t been back to Philadelphia since my husband and I graduated from Penn over 15 years ago. Then the area around campus didn_t exactly have a good reputation (the Burger King was called Murder King, and the McDonalds was called McDeath). We would like to go back for a visit with our toddler son and wondered if it is safe to walk from 30th Street Station to the Penn campus in the daytime and early evening. I have no idea what the area is like now. Thanks for all of your help.

  • I grew up in philadelphia and I am a firm believer that basically the entire city is _safe_ during the day. There are blocks I wouldn_t go near once it gets dark, but during the day the city is truly a city of brotherly love. Around the station and campus are fine, there are always a ton of people in that area, just don_t look like too much of a tourist.

  • I graduated from the Restaurant School a couple of blocks away from UPenn. I Walked from 42nd St. To south st. Platform( which I recommend, its right next to Penns stadium) without incident

  • Not too sure how the area is near the school but 30th street station area is fine. Its not the suburbs but you will be fine.

  • My boyfriend is a professor at Drexel--we walk from 30th St. to the Penn _ Drexel campuses all the time. As a young woman, I feel perfectly safe walking alone during the day _ evening. At night, the area is fairly well-lit; I_ve never had a problem. There_s a good security presence in University City, too (the patrolmen often stop and ask if I need an escort).

The area has cleaned up a lot since you were a student. West Philly still has its rough parts, but University City is quite safe (wait _til you see some of the condos that have gone up near Penn!).

  • yea, its perfectly fine.

  • It_s not the prettiest walk. But University City has become a very safe area.

  • yea its safe during broad daylight. i am a soon to be drexel student and i always take the 30th street station to go to drexel which is right next to the penn campus as u kno

Im visiting the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum any tips?|135337

I am visiting the Holocaust Memorial Museum in DC a month or two and I_m planning the trip now. Any tips? Where are some cool sight-seeing places around the city that I can check out?

  • Book your tickets now. Its free to get into the museum, but its best to reserve your ticket ahead of time, so that you will be able to get in, since this is a very popular museum, and they run out of tickets quickly. Prepare yourself to believe everything you see, since this is probally the best museum out there, and some of it may seem outragous (i.e. the experements) but its so amazing to relive that time just for an afternoon. Its 4 floors, each divided into each section of what happened during WWII, and you need a full afternoon to soak it all in.

I would also suggest the spy museum, (who knew that Julia Childs was a spy?) its a fun one to go see, and the memorials that are a MUST see are the FDR, WWII and Vietnam. I would also spend some time in VA, if you can fit it in, Old Towne Alexandria is fun to just walk around and see the shops along King Street.

  • Since the museum is so popular, its a timed entrance on when you can go..

    http://www.ushmm.org/visit/

  • Wear your comfortable shoes. If you are there when the cherry blossoms are blooming, the museums will be thick with tourists. Honestly, I went to the Holocaust Memorial Museum just to pass the time and came away thinking it was the best museum in the whole world. You will love it. If you are a fan of Lincoln_s make sure you go to Ford_s Theater.

  • be prepared for the holocaust museum b/c it is a very intense experience. all of the smithsonian museums are great. (air and space is my favorite) and it_s worth ur time to go to the spy museum.
  • How much money should I take to Las Vegas?|132954

My budget is tight. I will be there three nights, I have an 8-hour conference one of the days, and do not plan to gamble too much.

  • You can enjoy several things in Vegas that are free or low cost.

check www.vegas.com and look at the section for attractions, then the free stuff like the Fountains at the Bellagio as well as the Botanical Gardens, see the Lions at the MGM, you get the drift.

If you want to see a few things and can spend the money go the shark reef at Mandalay bay, the Eiffel tower at the Paris, if you want there is the roller coaster at the NY NY many of these range from $10-$15. so you can have plenty to do and see without gambling.

If you plan on partying several night clubs let women in with no cover charge and well the drinks may or may not cost you depending if anyone else is buying them for you. Don_t run a tab you will be out of money in one night.

Budget for food can range from $25-$100 per day depending on what and were you plan to eat.

I always budget $100 per day on meals for two of us and never seem to go over my budget.

Shows can start around $75 on up if you plan on that. Spas start around $110 plus gratuity.

I would take $500-$650 for food and activities depending if you want to have a spa or see a show.

I never budget more than $500 for the two of us for gambling.

    Hope this helps you
    Have fun Glenn

  • The great thing about Vegas is that you can basically take as little or as much as you want. Sure, it_s not as much fun to do Vegas on a budget but it_s a lot better than not doing Vegas at all!

Want to get the most bang for your buck? Simply walk around and check out all of the free attractions. There are the fountains at the Bellagio, the circus acts at Circus Circus, the Fremont Street Experience, the Lion Habitat at the MGM Grand and much, much more. If you aren_t afraid to wear your feet out walking, you can spend all day viewing interesting things and never spend a dime.

On the flip side, though, if you are looking to spend a few bucks, that isn_t hard to do either! Every casino offers shows and attractions of some sort with costs ranging from just a few dollars to go to the top of the stratosphere and ride a thrill ride to over a hundred dollars to see a Cirque show.

For a three night budget without much gambling, I_d be willing to bet that $500 would easily cover it assuming the hotel room is already taken care of. The food bills can definitely add up quickly if you are not careful but as long as you don_t go overboard with appetizers and desserts at every meal, you should be just fine.

Also, don_t be afraid to come back with some money left in your pocket! If you can have a great time at a low price, do it!

You can also check out http://www.cheapovegas.com for more tips on how to visit Las Vegas on a budget.

  • Take every dime you have and bet it on Black. We need to keep the economy going here Las Vegas.

Just remember, these lavish resorts didn_t get that way because everybody wins.

  • Take as much as you can because what is spent in Vegas stays in Vegas.

  • I wouldn_t take much as the more you take the more you stand to lose....I_ve found I have fun just walking up and down the strip and seeing the sights, walk around in the casinos too, they are incredible.

I like to spend time down by the Tropican listening to the music they play outside...but that_s just me..

Just go and have fun, remember after all it is Vegas!

  • I always budget about $100 per day when I go there that doesn_t include gambling money.

$20 to get from Airport to Hotel via shuttle or cab.
    $9-$12 for breakfast each day
    $10-$20 for Lunch
$20+ for dinner depending on where you go.
$10 for the tram pass which gets you around to many of the hotels

If you go out drinking or clubbing this is where it get_s pricey.
Beers usually start at $7 at the clubs for domestic. Mixed drinks usually range from $7-$12.
Cover charge for guys is usually $20 for the nicer clubs. $10 for cheaper ones. Women can usually get in free at most places with a coupon.

Your best bet to drink cheap is to hit up a casino bar where you can play video poker. Ask the bartender for a roll of quarters $20 bucks worth.
Whenever they are at the other end of the bar watch TV or chat with a friend. When they get nearby play a quarter at a time. if you gamble you get free drinks. I could usually parlay the $20 in quarters into 3-5 beers. If you win then you pay for your night out.

Another cheap option if you dont wanna spend alot drinking at the clubs, is hit one of the carryout_s on the strip. Buy a case of beer and put it on ice in the room. Drink in the room, then go out. You can carry beer in the hotel and on the street while you walk to where you go out. If you take a cab, you cannot drink in the cab.

  • If it_s gambling money you are talking about, I wouldn_t take any more than you can afford to lose. That way you_ll have a great time, be entertained and not get yourself into financial trouble.

  • Check out you hotel_s web site and see what additional benefits you may receive by staying there. Sometimes there are dinner specials. Sometimes you can get a free roll of quarters by joining the slot club. Planning ahead will help you in any case.

  • $1,200 should be plenty

  • If you are planning on gambling, just a little bit, you should probably bring between $200-$500.. only if you can squeeze that into your tight budget. This money should only be intended to be used for gambling. And gambling should only be done on the last night/day that you are there.

If you are planning on eating somewhere other than fast food places or places that you_ve built comps from gambling on, i.e. the buffets, fancy restaurants, or your hotel room, then you should bring another $100-$300 for your meals, depending if you like to eat.

If you are planning on hitting at least one club while you are there, it will depend on how guilty you would feel to use your looks to get you liquored up (of course without giving it up, unless you want to). If you are comfortable with this, but still want some money, you_re going to need $50-$100 to get in. Use your feminine charms on idiot men to get you drinks (*note: It_ll be easy for you to get some guy to buy you drinks MAKE SURE HE DOESNT SLIP YOU SOMETHING!!)

If you are shopping, use your own discretion and control. You wouldn_t go crazy shopping back home, or would you. Use restraint.

Are you going to a strip club? Depending, most strippers love dancing for girls.. It could be either really cheap or just as expensive for men. DON_T GO TO THE STRIP CLUBS!!!!

So, I am going to round up and say $1000 (at the least $600, with very little to no gambling at all) is a perfect amount to bring. It_s actually a good amount to bring anywhere you would go, i.e. Miami, New York City (you_d have to be more of a bargain shopper/street savvy to do this here), Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles. It gives you the freedom to enjoy your stay, doing pretty much everything.. but it limits you to how much you can spend in your limited time there.

Stay on the main, NEWER strip. There_s more places to go.. places like Hard Rock Cafe for happy hour are good. Staying around the pool area may get you some drinks/food from other guests at your hotel. And IF you are gambling, wait until the last day/night because you don_t want to lose any of your fun money. If you gamble the very first day, you_re more liable to get in the hole and lose every bit of change you have.
(*Note: This happened to a friend of mine about 3 years ago. We had just got to the hotel from the airport and some people went to sleep, me and some friends went to eat, and he went to gamble. He didn_t come back to the room that night. We found him the next night holding a half full bucket of quarters. THIS WAS ALL THE MONEY HE HAD LEFT, and his plane ticket..)

    Good Luck and Have Fun!!!!

  • I guess if I was your personal banker, this would be easy. Since I am not Nostradamus, I_ll give you the very obvious answer of no more than you can comfortably afford to lose and not hate yourself too much for doing it. Whatever you bring, be careful not to blow your wad on the first night. Nothing is worse than losing it all on the first night.

  • only take what you can afford to lose.

  • As with all trips, take twice as much money and half as many clothes.

  • You can just drive around and see the scenery...even walk around the grounds of the winery. Calistoga has the cheapest tastings. August Briggs in Calistoga is free. You can also print free wine tasting coupons. Some are for free tastings and others are 2 for 1. Here_s the site for that:

I_m wondering what a good age to start taking my daughter to Sesame Place is. She will be almost 2/12 the time summer hits. Is there rides there for her? Will she have a good time? I don_t want to drive the hour or so there and pay the money if she is gonna be too little to ride or do anything.

  • I think she will have a great time. My brother just brought is 2 year old neice there and she LOVED it. Keep her in site though because I_ve seen many people who have lost their kids there even if they just look over their shoulder for one second. Have fun and hope I helped.

What is that thing in the middle off j street marina in chula vista?|118594

it looks like some kind of boat or house in the middle of the water, actually north of J street, by Bay front park.
    Between the park and coronado.
I_m not talking about the power plant.

  • its an old house boat they docked there
  • Why are hotels in downtown Chicago so expensive in April?|106072

I would like to stay for 1 night, April 12th and can_t find any hotels for under $200. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • There are a handful (near the airport)...

    Head over to
    http://www.resideo.com/us/illinois/chica
and click the _Check Availability_ button. Choose your dates, submit the form, then sort the results by price (that_ll put cheapest places first).

You can then read about each hotel, view pics, book online, etc.

Looks like the Skylark Motel Chicago Midway Airport has rooms @ $87.00 for that night.

    Good luck!

  • Go to
    http://www.hotwire.com

I am always finding good hotels at reasonable prices there. Can_t help much though, if as another poster mentioned there are conventions.

    It_s worth a try, anyway.

  • Because it_s downtown CHICAGO, not downtown Podunk. This a world class city with world class museums, shopping, business HQs, etc. Big high rollers come to down to do business, etc. I mean, Donald Trump picked downtown Chicago for the site of his newest biggest hotel. So it follows that downtown hotels are going to be expensive. If you want something cheaper, try hotels in the Greektown area or other parts of the city.

  • vacation spring break

  • No no, it_s not peak tourist season, it_s convention season. I work at a hotel downtown, and our rates were $99 over last weekend which is about $200 less than they usually are. This week however, the whole city is basically sold out for a week because of the Hardware Convention...
Then right after convention season you_re going to hit tourist season until the end of summer.

  • there are alot of hotels with different rates go to google.com and type in chicago hotels and there are also hotels 15-20 min drive away with only 40 bucks a night and 230 a week so that is cheap!! and yes april and March are more because of spring break time Every1 knows that,it is like that any where were people go for vacation

  • Waukegan and Gurnee are MUCH more than 15 minutes away. Even with no traffic, you couldn_t make it downtown in 30 minutes, let alone 15. On an average day with traffic, it_ll take an hour, easy.

If you_re not picky about where you stay, search the hostels. There are several in the city that have decent reviews.

  • Look at craigslist or vrbo.com for reasonable apartment or condo rentals for the night. Try inns or B_B_s for less expensive lodging.

  • It is because it is peak tourist time... try staying in Waukegan or Gurnee. the hotels are considerably cheaper and Chicago is not even 15 minutes away. Just jump on the highway
  • Where can I charge a battery while inside Disneyland?|108177

My camera takes a special battery (not AA or AAA) and I have to use a special charger to charge the battery. I am planning on buying a second battery just in case, but does anyone know if there are any restaurants, or other places, in Disneyland/California Adventure you can plug in a battery to charge while you eat lunch, etc. if it dies?

  • if i remember correctly there is a camera shop called the Main Street Photo Supply Co. on main street that lets you charge your camera. i_m not sure if they charge money for this service, ive never personally used it.

  • I doubt that the folks at Disneyland, will allow any vistors, plug anything in, at any time.
You should contact Disney, and ask, because you might end up being kicked out of the park, if they have some sort of rules against plugging in electrical devices of any kind, other than for, say, medical purposes.
    Play it safe, contact Disneyland.

I think this is the link for Disneyland, that will lead to those in power, that can answer your question.

    http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneyla

OK, my bad, that link is for help about the Disney.com site.
Hold on, I am trying to find a link, that will let you ask your very important question, to a person at Disney, that can answer authoritatively...

    Alright...
Here is a contact page, for Disney...

    https://secure-disneyland.disney.go.com/

    Again..
I suggest you contact a Disney Official, for the answer to your question.
I know from experience in the entertainment industry, that most public venues, and parks, have to out of necessity, refuse to allow guests and visitors, to plug anything into a power outlet, due to safety reasons, and the fact, that if you let one park visitor do it, you will soon have 10,000 visitors doing it.
If you have ever been to Disneyland, and seen how crowded it always is, I would say, that it is a safe bet, that plugging anything into an outlet there, is strictly forbidden, and for that fact, they have probably removed any outlets, accessible to the public.

  • You_re not going to have any access to outlets at any Disneyland restaurants. My advice is to get a hotel room close to the resort, like the HoJo Anaheim, and charge your battery there.

  • Ask the workers, a restaurant should have outlets
  • What kind of college degree do i need to work for disney studios?|131880

I don_t want to be an animator or anything like that. What other kind of jobs do they have and what kind of college degree do i need?

  • You will need a degree in web design/animation. Most big colleges or universities will have a program.

  • Disney studios? I am guessing you_re possibly referring to Hollywood Studios, one of Walt Disney World_s theme parks. No degree of any sort is necessary to work at any of the parks for their entry level positions. All they require is for you to be 18 and older and be able to work in the US.
  • Is it possible to make a trip to Empire state from Newark Airport within 5 hours?|121451

I Would be reaching Newark airport @ 3pm and my next flight is @ 8:20pm on the same day.
Could you please suggest the shortest way to reach?
How much time it would take to reach empire state building?

  • The best way to get there would be to take the AirTran from the airport to the NJ Transit stop. From the train stop, you can take the train directly into NY Penn Station. Try to sit near the front of the train. Once in NY, you can easily walk to the Empire State building (if you sit near the front of the train you_ll be near 32nd and 7th, and the ESB is on 34th and 5th, about a 10-15 minute walk). The train ride in will take about 25 minutes.

On the way back to the airport, be sure that the board says _EWR,_ otherwise you won_t be stopping at the airport. Be sure to buy your tickets before your board, otherwise you_ll be charged an additional $5 fee on the train.

and go to _trip/ itinerary planner_ type in your points (newark airport and empire state building) and it will give you directions on how to get there using mass transit. Probably take you an hour. Or you could grab a cab if you want to spend the money, it might take a half hour up to an hour depending on traffic.

  • 18 miles
    33 minutes
    (each way)

  • It_s very close. You can see it from the airport. Best way, just take a taxi.

What time does traffic start on Halloween in West Hollywood?|185063

I live in West Hollywood and have decided to not attend the annual WeHo carnival this year, but to spend Halloween in the South Bay with friends. My husband and I want to know when we should leave to get there. We will have to take the 10 highway off of La Cienega. Would leaving at 5pm get us stuck in ridiculous traffic?

  • leave before it gets dark, but since Halloween is Saturday, you might want to leave earlier, like 2ish.

  • The WeHo Halloween website has a list of the street closures. They start closing streets at 1pm on the 31st and some don_t reopen until the 1st.

One of the world_s largest Halloween celebrations, the West Hollywood Halloween Costume Carnaval will be held from 6 p.m. to 11p.m. along Santa Monica Boulevard from Doheny Drive to La Cienega Boulevard.

Due to the City of West Hollywood_s annual Halloween Costume Carnaval, the following streets will be temporarily CLOSED as follows:

Santa Monica Boulevard between La Cienega Boulevard and Doheny Drive 1 p.m. Saturday, October 31 through 6 a.m., Sunday, November 1, 2009.
Robertson Boulevard between Melrose Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard from 1 p.m., Saturday, October 31 through 6 a.m., Sunday, November 1, 2009.
San Vicente Boulevard between Cynthia and Melrose Avenue from 2 p.m., Saturday, October 31 through 6 a.m., Sunday, November 1, 2009.
La Cienega Boulevard between Holloway Drive and Santa Monica Boulevard from 6 p.m., Saturday, October 31 through 6 a.m., Sunday, November 1, 2005.
Sunset Boulevard eastbound and westbound turn lanes onto La Cienega Boulevard from 6 p.m., Saturday, October 31 through 7 a.m., Sunday, November 1, 2009.

La Peer Drive eastbound turn lane onto Santa Monica Boulevard from 3 p.m., Saturday, October 31 through 7 a.m., Sunday, November 1, 2009.
The City of West Hollywood will suspend permit parking for the Halloween Carnaval from 5 p.m. Saturday, October 31, 2009 to 6 a.m., November 1, 2009. Meters will be enforced.

  • WoE_s right. By 5, you_re HOSED.

I would just keep going south on La Cienega through the hills, then catch the 405 (or bypass it altogether).

But if it was me, I_d leave by 2 PM, no later than 3.

  • 10 is a parking lot then.

  • Whats the white stuff that trucks in Florida driving around the suburbs release?|197554

I recently saw a documentary on Florida (or it might have been Louisiana?) and there was a truck driving around the streets around the houses releasing clouds of what looked like a white powder. Is this some kind of mosquito deterrent?

  • It is mosquito control. Most cities use Malathion to control mosquitoes. It_s nopt actually a powder form, it_s a liquid, but it_s dispensed into the air by being atomized to a vapor.

  • It_s not cocaine like in rome!

  • yes that is exactly what it is....mosquito control
  • Me + 6 of my girlfriends are going to Las Vegas in August. What is the best hip hop club there or club to go?|139192

None of us have never been to Las Vegas before and I am planning the whole trip and wanted some good advice on some good nightclubs that play mostly hip hop but I can also deal with the other music as well. We will be there July 31st-August 2nd going to see Beyonce August 1st. Please help!! Thank you.

  • The hottest Hip hop spot is poetry at Caesars palace. Poetry is the only club in vegas to play strictly hip hop and r_b. it is becoming a major celeb hot spot and it is not uncommon to bump into snoop on the dance floor.

There are a ton of other great clubs though my personal favorite is Moon and Playboy at the palms. they have a retractible roof which has one of the most amazing views of the strip out there since it is located on the top of the tower. They also have by far the most sophisticated sound system and lighting.

I would suggest you use the party planner
    http://www.cheapvegasclubs.com/yourvegas
its free and that site will plan everything out for you as well as get you in for the cheapest. Passes are $10 and guestlist entry with no line and no cover is only $15 I use them every time and love it

  • I_m going the same weekend!!
Your going to have so much fun! I went for the first time in March, and again last weekend, and now going for my b-day (July 31st) for the weekend, i_m addicted...lol!
Anyways, we went to club Rain at The Palms on Friday cause DJ AM plays there, and it was off the chain...nice system, big dance floor...it was hot!! be prepared for the line though...get there early!
I also went to LAX on saturday and I loved it there also, good music!! that_s where i_m planning to go in July on saturday!!

    Hope that helps!

  • LAX at Luxor is my favorite. DJ AM plays there as well, and a lot of celebs are known to go to LAX. I also like the Christian Audigier club at Treasure Island and Pure at Caesar_s Palace. I_ve never been to Rain at the Palms but I_d imagine that_s a good one for the atmosphere you_re looking for.

  • What to take on an 11 day vacation to the beach in California?|181215

Hi I am going to Pismo Beach California in the end of may and the begining of june. I will be doing plenty of shopping and sun tanning. What all should I pack for this trip. I am already buying some new bikinis, butI am stumped on what i will need and what to put in my actual suitcase. And I am not flying I am going in an RV with family. Thanks

  • Bad timing. From mid May to mid June California usually has cloudy, overcast weather. It happens every year. It_s the seasonal _gloomy weather_ before the heat of late Spring and Summer. If you can put this off until the last two weeks of June you will be pleasantly rewarded.

  • It_s going to be a lot cooler than you expect unless you_re from Canada. The water will still be too cold to get into unless you have a wetsuit. Bring a hooded sweatshirt, jeans, t-shirts, beanie, shorts.

    Look at the average temperatures.

    May
    Normal High: 69F
    Normal Low: 47F
    Normal Average: 58F

    June
    Normal High: 71F
    Normal Low: 51F
    Normal Average: 61F

  • Muppet_s right. Nikki doesn_t know what she_s talking about.

As someone who has stayed in Pismo, you get _Gray May_ and _June Gloom_ BIG time up there. You_ll need both shorts and long pants, clothing for warm and cold weather. Don_t forget some cool walking shoes.

Are you staying at Pismo Coast Village? GREAT place to stay. You can walk into town, down to the pier, etc. Pismo is a great beach town.

But you aren_t going to be able to tan as much as you think. But have fun anyway!

  • Lots of shorts, tanks, flip flops and bathing suits and prob a cute evening outfit!!
  • I live in Italy but i am also canadian and i want to move in california to live and work. What iis the best way?|150290

I am 36 and speak perfectly italian english and french.I have over 15 years of sales experience.
Hope to get a positive anwser.
    Thank You.

  • Santa Monica is best place to hang out and _network_. Check Craigs List for Los Angeles. See what is available. Perhaps caring for someone disabled in the home. Your language skills are very important. UCLA, huge university, check out their daily Bruin newspaper for jobs. They may have something on line. People are often looking for someone to tutor in languages. Perhaps the convention center or tours to use your languages.(Universal city, Getty Center) Think of voluteering at the Getty to make contacts and network to find a job. Find a place to live near Little Korea. Use the red buses to get to West part of town quickly. Start with the youth hostels in Venice beach. Start communicating with students from out of country to see if you can get some kind of group or shared living.
Decide why you want to come and what you want to accomplish.Even be willing to work for free so people can see what you do and who you are. Huge numbers of people are being laid off here, but do not give up if this is your passion.

  • Make sure you have at least a months expences available once you get to CA. Before you get there, try to get job interviews setup so that you can hit the ground running. Figure out what part of CA you want to live in. California has many different types of environments. Big City (Los Angeles/San Diego/Long Beach), Party Towns (Chico, San Francisco/San Diego/ L.A.), Rural (Bakersfield, Sanoma, Poway, Tulare), Dessert (Palmdale, Lancaster, Anatelope Valley), Costal (Santa Monica, Long Beach, Huntington Beach, Santa Barbera, San Francisco, San Diego), and Activist (San Francisco, Berkley).

Good luck. Just remember that California is one of the most expensive states to live in. If you are strapped for cash now, I would move to a cheaper state like Arizona, Nevada or Texas, save up and then move to California.

  • Look up _TN Visa_ on line. If you have one of the qualifying degree and are a Canadian Citizen, you may easily work in Canada. If you do not have a qualifying degree, it is next to impossible to come here other than by marrying a US citizen. And do note that the US has lost over 2,000,000 jobs this year. Nobody is hiring right now. Specially not sales people.

  • You can work here if you are hired from a Company cause you have particular skills. However Canadian Citizens have different ways. You need to contact the Canadian Consulate in California and ask them what you can do and how.
  • What is your favorite and least favorite ride in Disney World?|114739

You have to pick just one fav and one you hate!

  • Favorite- Haunted Mansion.

    Least favorite- Stitches Great Escape.

  • Love Love Love - Splash Mt. _ Tower of Terror

Pirates of the Caribbean is a pretty good ride, but I hate how they act like since they renovated it it_s so different. They just cleaned it up and stuck johnny depp in a few places and acted like it was so different.

  • My favorite ride at Disney World is:
    ~ Expedition Everest (Animal Kingdom)

The ride at Disney World I absolutely hate is:
~ NONE! All the rides at Disney World are awesome but a lot of people don_t like certain rides because their either boring, not exciting, or too fast. But it doesn_t matter with me which ride I get on because it_s Disney World! You should love every ride. ;)

  • i have a lot of favorites. its really really hard to choose. but if i can only choose one.
    fav:
    tower of terror

    least fav:
    expedition everest.
i love thrill rides and its not thrilling at all in my opinion.

  • My favorite ride is probably Splash Mountain (hard to choose) because of the combination of theming and thrill.

My least favorite would have to be the new Tiki Room. I was never crazy about the old one, but the new one is hideous.

  • I love the Blue Line, or whatever it_s really called. I don_t think anyone else really likes it. But it_s the longest ride and you get to see so much at the same time. Go into Space Mountain, see Buzz_s ride, etc, I love it.

  • My favorites are Mount Everest and Thunder Mountain cause they_re roller coasters but not too crazy.

My least favorite is Journey into the imagination wth figment. So boring.

  • Favorite - Splash Mountain - a classic

Least Favorite - Jungle Cruise (kinda corny and always a long line)

  • favorite is Soarin get their early fast passes go quick. Don_t think I have a least favorite.

  • Love.... Rockin Roller Coaster

Hate....Space Mountain....hate the fact its in the dark and so rickety!

  • Haunted Mansion = LOVE

Stitch = HATE....COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME

How much money should I take to Vegas?|195171

Staying at the Bellagio and I have no idea how much money I will need to take with me. I_m not really much of a gambler and I looked at the prices for _O_ and nearly fainted. I am going with four other people (siblings/cousins) and I want to treat them to something nice - but not so extravagant that I_ll put myself in the poor house. Any recommendations?

  • Take as much as you_re comfortable with, but you_ll proabably need at least a few hundred. If you need to take money out of a machine, do so downtown rather than on the Strip (e.g. $30 withdrawal fee at the Mirage).

  • bring your debit card, ATM card - don_t take hard cash, withdraw money from the atm as you need them. they are all over the place.

  • No more than 300-400 dollars and just be smart because Vegas is made off of losers not winners.

  • I suggest one days pay for every day you stay there.

  • Take as much money as you feel comfortable never seeing again

  • some of the adult/Risque shows offer 2 for 1 coupons, shows in Ballys (jubilee) rio and harrahs (forget the names) the dancers walk around in the day passing out the coupons.. Also, try taking a taxi they have tons of coupons and passes to clubs and shows just give them a good tip

    have fun
  • What are the best places to visit in California?|179125

I live in Portland Or and I_m gonna take a road trip with my b/f and a couple friends. I think we_re definitely gonna go to SF, LA, and possibly San Diego. What are some fun, interesting places to stop by in these cities or on the way? Also do you think we should reserve hotel rooms in advance or try to find open ones when we get there?

  • Go everywhere you can. Stop in Santa Cruz see the Boardwalk. Fun rides and beach atmosphere. Also, use Motel 6 where possible. Pretty cheap but clean. A week isn_t quite enough time to go and see what is in CA. Figure spliting the state in half. I would take in either N CA (SF, Santa Cruz, San Jose, Sacramento, Monterey) or S CA (Santa Barbara to San Diego) and then do the other another time. Also Yosemite (Central East) is cool for Camping if you like to do that. Go to AAA insurance and get a VIA magizine. Then you will see there is too much to do in a week. Depending on what you do and how you spend for food, you could get by with about $50 a day+- Come on down to CA and have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Alcatraz tour is supposed to be interesting. It is often sold out unless you book in advance. I have tickets to do this later this month. Their website is:

    http://www.alcatrazcruises.com/

The Gray Line tour is fun and interesting. You could get tickets usually the same day at Pier 39. I have done this last year when we found tickets to Alcatraz were sold out.

Yosemite National Park is worth seeing in your lifetime. Lodging is expensive and booked in advance. It might be possible to find lodging in Merced and do a day trip out of there to Yosemite. I have not actually tried this, and I don_t know how expensive lodging is in Merced in summer. The last time I actually visited Yosemite was about 15 years ago. It was early November, and even then the only available lodging in Yosemite Village was a tent.

  • San Francisco is a great place to visit for the day. You can have your portrait drawn by a street artist for very little money like maybe 20 bucks? You can get a piece of Ghiardelli chocolate at the main store there. You can take a ferry out to Alcatraz! You can drive down Lombard Street-the crookedest street in the world, as they call it. It_s a whole day easily spent in the city.

In San Diego there_s a dog beach that_s awesome. Even if you don_t have a dog you can go watch all the dogs run without leashes and playing with their owners. It_s cute and really fun! Also there_s some amazing authentic mexican stands you can get a carne asada burrito! Very amazing mexican food because it_s all authentic.

Have a blast! It should be a memorable trip with your friend. I_m jealous!

  • definitely reserve the rooms in advance! there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it_s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.
  • What is the best time to visit south carolina?|118182

Need to visit south carolina sometime next year and want to find out the best time to go there?

  • Oh there is a lot here.

The best times to visit the states coastal areas, beaches and towns are during spring, summer as well as fall. Most families and golf enthusiasts should prefer to visit during the summer and retirees and people interested in quieter activities like hiking and RV travellers should consider the fall and spring seasons as it is quieter during that time of the year. That being said C to vist the great historical and cultural attractions, any time of the year is a good time.
Here are some of the things you should consider:
The high season to visit is from May through August
The off season is December through February
The shoulder season is from March and April and then from September throughNovember
    Weather
South Carolina has a humid, sub-tropical climate, with long, hot summers and short, mild winters. Spring and autumn are the most pleasant seasons. In winter, temperatures generally average 5 to 7C (40 to 45F) in inland areas, and 12 to 15oC (55 to 60F) by the shore. Summer temperatures, modified by mountains in some areas and by sea breezes in others, range from 24 to 29oC (75 to 85F), and can reach as high as 32oC (90F) and above.
    Required Clothing
Lightweights are advised throughout the year, with warmer clothes for winter. Beachwear is popular, and protection from the midday sun, such as sunglasses and sun hats, is advisable.

    Crowd Information
Summer holidays such as the 4th Of July, Memorial Day, Labor Day and some of the other big holidays attract large crowds to the coast. The spring and fall seasons attract less crowds, although it is still very pleasant from weatherwise.
When are places open during the year :
Most of the hotels, shops, malls and similar places are open through out the year. Some regions are subject to seasonal closures though C As an example, in popular tourist areas like Myrtle Beach, attractions such as amusement parks and water parks could be closed during the winter.
Family Kingdom Amusement Park and Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park are generally open in March and operate on a limited schedule until late May, and they then open through the summer on a full schedule, cuting back their hours in September, and tend to close completely in October.
The water parks are open from May through September generally, scale back to limited hours in May and September. There are Some businesses on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach and other related communities that close during the winter months. The hotels, malls, entertainment theaters, outlet retail centers, restaurants and bars are open year-round (some restaurants may close during the winter but that there are a very few of them).
There are some major destinations that remain open throughout the year and they include NASCAR SpeedPark, Alligator Adventure, Childrens Museum of South Carolina, Ripleys Aquarium, Waccatee Zoo, the IMAX Discover Theater, MagiQuest, and Brookgreen Gardens.

  • I would say the springtime ... during SPRING BREAK!
The sun is warm and the water feels great!
Don_t go in the summer because that is hurricane season and your vacation will be destroyed!
  • Going to Miami in late July, will be going to ball games and wanna spend time on beautiful beaches. Any ideas?|117115

I need help finding a hotel that is close to both the baseball stadium and a great beach. Also naming some things to do and things to see while in the Miami area would be appreciated.

  • it gets really hot in the summer time here and all the beaches are about the same
  • What city would you prefer to live in San Fran or Chicago and why please?|117785

I love big city living and can_t decide to venture up to San Fran OR go BACK to Chicago.

  • This is a tough choice but here are a few differences to consider:

    1. Chicago has lower costs of housing and cost of living in general. The housing market has been dropping a lot here and prices have fallen quite a bit.

    2. Both have ok job markets, do you have any job offers in either city? Which has better prospects for your career?

    3. San Fran has better weather in general, but they have earthquakes and electrical blackouts and forest fires too. Chicago just has cold and snow.

    4. Where do your family and your friends live? This is always a big part of the decision. A supportive family and friend network can make all the difference in getting settled. Unless you specifically want to be away from family, then that is another story.

    5. Chicago has better public transit, although you may risk your life sometimes to ride it late at night.

  • I guess it depends on what your _into_.

If you are hetrosexual then come back to Chicago... (We have a VERY SMALL _alt_ community for such a large city)

If you are homosexual or in to an _alt_ lifestyle then go for SanFran...

Personally? I will ALWAYS come back to Chicago...

No matter how long I_m gone... Every time I fly into O_Hare... I just know that I am _Home_.

I LOVE it here... But I feel free to visit anywhere else! LOL!

  • I for one would go to Chicago because i do not like the hotness of San Francisco. I also want to move to Chicago because it has some major sight seeing i want to see before i die.But it your life not mine so do what you please.

  • I live in the bay (san fran bay). its a great place to live, but its very expensive for housing. beside that the bay is SO Cultured and diverse. close to the ocean, great restaurants, good shopping, and much more

  • San Francisco because not only the city is beautiful, also the surrounding area ! ;-)

  • i would choose san francisco!!! awesome city to stay in.. and im not saying the suburbs.. in downtown san francisco..
gr8 weather.. awesome nitelife.. u can do ne type of activity ur interested in!

  • san fran is awesome, its pretty, trendy, clean, and theres so much to do.

  • chicago. i have family in chicago and its closer to my immediate family in st louis

  • I think San Francisco becuase people get shot all the time in Chicago

  • San Francisco. Close to the ocean. Good restaurants.

  • San Fransisco..better weather..more to see

How do I put together a ski trip for a group of college students?|104303

Me and some of my classmates would like to go skiing. Is about 10 of us. We are interested in going somewhere out west like colorado or UTah. Which ever is cheaper. Where do I start? Is it better to rent a condo or hotel rooms? ANy advice will be appreciated. THanks

  • I Searched on this site and got the Cheapest Hotel,Check it out,it also had Discount Coupon Codes for Expedia,Orbitz,Travelocity,Kayak, Priceline, etc.

    http://freetravel4ever.blogspot.com

  • Utah is cheaper. You could even get a cheap hotel in Salt Lake City and I think there are buses that go to the ski areas each morning, it_s about 30-50minutes away. (or do a car rental), either way, that_s the best way to keep costs down. Stuff 5 to a room and you_ve got one cheap trip.

  • forget the trip. stay in school and get a refresher course on grammar and spelling.
  • What is the brown squirrel-like animal we kept seeing on the side of the roads in Hawaii?|113853

Looks like a squirrel, looks like a ferret, but brown, and scurries in front of cars on the sides of the road. Is this a squirrel unique to the Hawaii area (we were staying in Kona on the Big Island) or some other type of animal? we were curious!

    THANKS!

  • Mongoose. They_re everywhere here and they_re super smart too. Steal your lunch right out of your golf cart if you_re not careful.

  • LMAO! you don_t know what a mongoose is! that_s funny.

  • Funny you should ask. I was just research those animals. Apparently, they are minature cows that were developed there. Several had escaped serveral years ago and reverted to a hairier form.

Yes, they do look like squirrels. It is amazing how small they are too ! There, they call them _Small Foots_.

  • Mongoose is indeed what they are, and they were brought to hawaii to control pests, but as human interactions often do, it failed, and now the mongooses are the pest!

What are the coolest things to do in Seattle?|187023

I_m going on a trip there in a few weeks and will only be there for three days. I want to know what are the best things to see and do, whether they_re really touristy or not. Also any helpful tips would be great!

  • space noodle
    the waterfront
    the duck across lake washington
    the arboretum
    the e.m.p.
    the museum of flight
    monorail
    pike st. market
if you have a car and the time you can try the falls at snoqualmie or deception pass.
    crossing lake washington at 5:30

if you park at the seattle center you can get the space noodle hit the e.m.p. take the monorail to its end and then walk to the pike st. market. very touristy esp. on a weekend. all the rest of the places listed not so touristy

  • Go into the Space needle! It_s really cool to be up in the resteraunt because (I think) it spins while you_re up there and it_s just a really cool building.

  • i hear the space needle is pretty cool!

  • go to Starbucks...wear Birkenstocks.....be Green.......watch Frasier.
  • Does anyone have any suggestions on a Hotel to stay at when visiting Hershey Park during the Christmas season?|136404

We are planning a family trip during the christmas season and wasn_t sure if Hershey Lodge was worth the expense? Thanks

  • Try TripAdvisor.com for comments from past guests about hotels. For a family, you might want to look into an apt/condo. There_s a list at HomeAway.com, although I don_t know for a fact that they have listings for Hershey.
  • What is the most economical way of transport for sight seeing in New York?|146916

    Hi,

We are a couple of friends visiting NY for a week and were seeking the most convenient and economical way of visiting the popular sights. Both of us are University students and should also be eligible for student discounts if offered anywhere.
We will appraciate any ideas and recommention.

    Thanks for you help.

  • The subways and buses will be the most economical way to get around the city and both are quite easy and safe to use. The Transit Authority has a guide with all the routes, or you can find these in many NYC guidebooks. A bit of study before your visit will get you familiarized with the system, which is very logical, for the most part.

Quite often, if you go to the website of an attraction you will find information on what bus/train to take to get there.

To save some money, you may want to check out CityPass, which is a one-price ticket that includes many NYC attractions. You would have to do a bit of research to see whether this would actually save you money or not.

    Have a great trip!

  • The best and economical way to do sight seeing in New York City is by public transit and on foot.

In regards to public transit, the fare on the subway is $2.25 a person, per ride. However, since you_re all going to be in town for a week, may I recommend purchase a 7-day Unlimited Ride MetroCard for $27 a person. The 7-day Unlimited Ride MetroCard will coming pertty handy when making multiple trip on the subway and local bus system in the City.

Now, the reason the card is cost $27 a person is because the card can not be shared. I_ll say it again, _The Card Can Not Be Shared_. Therefore, each of you have to purchase an individual card.

Also, many of the main attractions offer discount on ticket when you use you MetroCard. One of them is the Titanic exhitbition in Times Square. I_ve included a link to the information blow.

    http://nativenewyorker10454.blogspot.com

In regards to walking, most of the attraction in New York City are with walking distance to each other. For example, Times Square and Rockefeller Center are with a 10 to 15 minutes walking distance from each other (depending on your walking pace). So, if you rather not to take the subway, you can just walk from one place to the other.

Please note that you might want to pack some comfortable pair of shoe if you_re going to be doing a lot of walking in the Big Apple.

I hope this information is very helpful.

    Good luck

  • Try the sightseeing bus tours . Try this bus

  • Where is the most beautiful place to go camping in the eastern united states?|111763

I will be beginning a 2 month road trip next week. I plan on hitting South and North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee. Any ideas for websites to view good places to camp? Actually I am putting all my stuff into storage so if I find a real nice place to live, I can do that too!

  • Bryson City, NC was voted by Outdoor Magazine as one of the top 100 best places to live for outdoor enthusiasts. Sounds like you_d love it. It has the Deep Creek Recreation Area with hiking trails that join the Appalachian Trail and also general camping. If your into more of the _cabin camping_ type of camping, I recommend

because they are right next the the Deep Creek Rec Area (1/2 mile away). Seriously, I_ve been to Bryson City many times because I love the outdoors, and there is so much for me to do!

  • Try The Finger Lakes area.

  • Anywhere in the Adirondack Mountains! I live in NYS and may be biased but I never get tired of these beatiful mountains. Check out these websites below for more information.

  • that mountain area between Knoxville TN through Asheville (I-40) and south towards Spartenburg SC (I-26) is about the most beautiful I have ever seen!

  • Even though you are not travelling to that area, you should go to Georgia. There are some beautiful camp grounds there with lake views, and wildlife sightings, and all sorts of stuff. There are some beautiful houses there too so you can live close to nature. The trails give you a great way to start your day!!! (I sound like some sort of ad but don_t pay attention to me...)
  • How is the weather, people, and culture of Georgia and South Carolina?|112139

Is the cost of living high in GA/SC? Is there alot of rascism against minorities? How are the people? Recommendations where to buy a house? Thanks.

  • I live in the Atlanta area. The weather in summer is hot (usually in the 90_s this time of year) and extremely humid. winters are mild with usually only 1 winter storm per year. The cost of living is lower than the northeast and west coast, but this area is growing rapidly. The people are nice and outside of downtown atlanta, southern hospitality is still common. racism is not a big problem like it used to be but there are still a small group of people who are prejudiced. If your considering the atlanta area, I recommend the northwestern suburbs in marietta, kennesaw, and acworth. they have more of a small town atmosphere but are still convenient to downtown and the airport.

  • In South Carolina, the weather is extremely hot and humid, but very nice during the Fall and Spring. People are great and very friendly. Cost of living is very low compared to northern states. As far as where to live I would explore Greenville or maybe look at property on Lake Greenwood or Lake Santee.

  • What is the best way to get to Philadelphia from NY Penn Station?|164360

I heard you can take the train from Penn Station to Trenton and then transfer to the SEPTA, but are there any other destinations in Philly other than the rail station, for example the airport?

  • Take the NJ Transit line from NYC to Trenton, NJ. It_s about a one hour trip. Then, get onto the R7 line. That will pull you directly into 30th Street Station about 2 hours after you depart NYC. The regular Amtrak service is about $60-70 one way, and is only about 30 minutes faster. The NJT and R7 way is about $20-30.

  • Just take AMTRAK direct from NYC to 30th St. station in Philly. As for the Airport? The Septa R-1 train goes to the airport from 30th st.

  • You can take Amtrak but that is expensive. If you can...drive to Trenton or Hamilton, NJ. You can park your car there for 24 hours. The round trip to Penn Station is less than $25.00.

I_ve always driven to Trenton, but I_m sure you can get the PATCO at 8th and Market to NJ then transfer to NJTransit to NYC. NJTransit trains go right into Penn Station. Have fun!!

  • You can get it from the website and SCROLL ALL THE WAY DOWN to were it has all those BLUE LINK_s.... click on the one that Says JOBS, heres the link
    http://www.whitehouse.gov/

sorry about the caps just wanted you know know what i said was important and didnt need to look back more than twice.

Good luck with getting the job. =P

  • There are two types of jobs at the White House: political (meaning that you are appointed by the President) and civil service. I believe that the maintenance jobs are all civil service. I also believe that the US General Services Administration is responsible for maintaining the White House, and probably fills those jobs.

Particularly since 9/11, all people who work at the White House have to go through a rigorous security screening.

If anyone knows differently, please post!
  • What does California offer for health insurance for people with low income?|185177

I currently live in maine and get maine care. what would be the equivalent in california? and is it hard to get?

  • There is no equivalent.

In California, you can be an illegal immigrant or indigent and get MediCal, or you can be simply too poor to afford medical insurance and you get nothing.

  • Medi-Cal is easy to obtain if you meet the income level. Depending in the county you_ll be residing in, Medi-Cal may have a contract with an HMO Such as Kaiser Permanente. If such contract exists then you may _assign_ your Medi-Cal to the Health Plan and have zero copays or a share of cost for covered services and prescriptions . The provider of care should not have access to how your medical coverage was obtained meaning at the point of service the receptionist/clerk/physician does not know you have Medi-Cal assigned to the Health Plan only the copay amount if there be any.

You will want to contact The Department of Health Services in the county you are considering moving to so you may inquire about the application process. You may find the local office address and phone number in the yellow pages under Local Government.

    Hope this helps

  • Medi-Cal. If you moved here you would have to meet the residence requirement. Until then you have to have the Maine insurance. Contact the Med-Cal info line for more info. Medi-Cal is the equlivant of medicade through out the rest of the U_S.

  • Medical is available if you qualify. The system isn_t very good, the doctors are often in the ghetto and they will see you several times before they actually do anything so they get paid for several visits. You basically have to be on welfare to get it, or illegal, or a child of poor parents.

    Thanks for your help!

  • It is a very nice area. It_s a pretty good ways north of the areas considered downtown and midtown. I would consider it very safe. The area right around the mall gets some crime, but a block away I think the crime drops to almost nothing.

Your daughter is in a good spot.

  • Heck yes. I_ve lived in Buckhead for 14 years- my whole life. I_ve never experienced anything bad like that. It_s mostly residential and there are some amazing schools, restaurants, and Lenox Square is really cool too. It_s probably the safest place in Atlanta. Then pack them appropriately and call the New Mexico space port and make arrangements to have them put on the next missile launch! Easy!!

  • Call Dominoes and get some Buffalo Chicken Wings. May not solve the problem, but sometimes you just need to combine your problems to find a solution.

How much would a trip to New York City for three cost?|186968

How much would it cost for about three people to drive from Lexington, KY to New York, NY for about 4 days? Should we stay in a hotel outside of the city and take the train in every day? What about food, something cheap but good. If I could get some rough estimates on these costs and maybe anything I_ve overlooked that would be TERRIFIC!

  • You will probably range in the low thousands, but DEFINITELY STAY IN HOTEL PENNSYLVANIA!. The hotel is located right across the street from Penn Station/ Madison Square Garden. It was built in 1919 by McKim, Mead _ White, They also designed The NYC Municipal building, original Penn Station, which used to stand in what is now Madison Garden, and many other US national landmarks. The hotel_s architecture is the gorgeous Neo-Renaissance style. the Hotel is very affordable. there are breathtaking views of the city from the bedrooms too. Glen Miller, the famous band leader, wrote the song Pennsylvania 6-5000 about the hotel. Glen Miller also stayed and preformed in the hotel for his Honeymoon, and numerous other times. Hotel Pennsylvania for the last 89 years has been the worlds most popular hotel after serving over 3 million guests! Hotel Penn is very clean a satisfying. Unfortunately the Hotel is being threatened for demolition so enjoy the hotel while you can. Even if you don_t stay in this hotel please go to the Save The Hotel website at
    http://savethehotel.org/.
The website also has a myspace. If you would like to add them, their URL is
    http://www.myspace.com/savethehotel.
The official website of the hotel where you can learn more information on staying there is
    http://www.hotelpenn.com/.
PLEASE HELP AND SAVE THE PAST!

  • I can not give you an estimate, because there are a lot of personal factors involved. However, I can give you some facts which may help: 1. Parking in N. York will cost you quite a few bucks (reason why I take the train in). 2. Hotels must usually be reserved in advance or you will have trouble, especially during rainy days. 3. Food can fit any budget, from the street corner hot dogs (found all over), to a Deli, to a McDonald_s, to expensive restaurants.
If you learn your way around, sleeping away from the city and taking the train in is cheaper. Bring a good pair of walking sneakers, and use the local subway which will bring you to where your heart desires (downtown to take the ferry to the Statue of Liberty), etc. Just grab a city map, because in the subway all you will see are the street stops/42nd. 32nd, etc.). While in the subway, pay attention there is the _local_, and the _express_ (underneath, makes only a couple of stops in the city, and moves on to Queens, Brooklyn, etc.).
Shows: you can plan to watch an evening show while on Broadway, according to ticket prices/your budget.
Your traveling from KY will much depend on the type of car you drive, and the ongoing gas prices. If you do park in N. York, make sure to put enough gas in the car, before you come in.

There are two bus/carpool lanes as you go from Oakland to San Francisco on the Bay Bridge. These allow a vehicle to go non-stop past the toll booths. One is on the far left and the other is on the far right. Can a school bus use the one on the far left?

  • Sure

  • Wonderworks is pretty cool. There is also Florida Mall (with the M_M store and the indoor surfing). The RDV Sportsplex in Maitland has ice skating as does the Ice Factory in Kissimmee. There is plenty of bowling as well. They have indoor skydiving as well. Outside of Orlando is Fantasy of Flight museum with a flight simulator. Medieval Times, Arabian Nights, Dolly Partan_s Stampede, and Al Capone dinner theater to name a few shows. I would try to see Cirque De Solel and/or Blue Man Group for sure.

  • What is the best way to go about selling a Time Share?|171584

Unit is paid in full, is annual and is red time meaning can be used anytime during the year to anywhere.

  • Selling a timeshare can be a tricky thing to do because there are so many of them around today. Try some unconventional ways of advertising. Put a message in your signature file of your email. Everytime you send out an email you will be advertising your timeshare.
Now that winter is around the corner, it is a great time to advertise the sale of your timeshare. Snow birds and baby boomers are looking for great deals now. If you are in a state where winters are cold, print up some flyers and post them where you can. You should find someone who is interested.
If you do decide to go with one of the companies that sell timeshares, make sure to do your research on the company.
    Good luck...

  • Find someone looking to buy a timeshare

  • There are a lot of timeshares for sale on e-bay. Beware of people offering to sell it for you. It is not worth anywhere near what you paid for it. Probably around 10%. RCI was owned by Cendant which also owned Century 21 which might be the best bet. Otherwise, find someone you know who is interested. Good luck. There are a LOT of resales on the market and prices are nowhere near what the developer gets.

  • Not here.

  • What part of NYC is best to live in for a skyline view of the city? I was really looking at Brooklyn?|128889

I am looking at moving to NYC and was just wondering what areas are the best to have a skyline view of the city? I have been looking at Brooklyn, thats where my family is from. My rent range would be from 0-3000 a month.

  • There are some really awesome views from Long Island City...which is obviously in Queens, but a very short trip from Brooklyn.
In Brooklyn, there are some new buildings with views in Williamsburg -- likely to run you near the top of the cited rent range. Then, as others have mentioned, there_s the Brooklyn Heights promenade area, also expensive.
It really depends on why view is so important to you, exactly what you want a view of, and whether you really want to pay twice the rent in exchange for a better view. I_ve been in apartments on the southern end of Park Slope, miles inland into Brooklyn, with perfectly angled windows and unobstructed views of the Empire State Building and/or Statue of Liberty at a distance.

  • Roosevelt Island is also a good place to consider. The views are farther uptown (the UN, the 59th St Bridge, etc) but it_s very nice and quiet there too.

  • Excellent view from the other side of the Hudson -- Jersey City. Great new rentals and condos have gone up. Amazing views and prices are more reasonable than Brooklyn.

  • Anywhere close to the brooklyn promenade whick overlooks lower Manhattan.

What happens if you live on the boarder between two time zones like Illinois and Indiana?|115408

The line between them. Do you have two time zones? Do you get
to choose. This has been nagging at me for a while, What if you work in a city with a different time zone? Are you late for work?

  • I have a friend that lives in Idaho/ and Montana. He picks Idaho time zone to live. You have to pick one or the other. He does use Montana_s telephone company because it is much cheaper then the one in Idaho. Must be nice to have such choices.

  • Time zones are just arbitrary lines people have set up. So if your house straddles two time zones you can just decide to use whichever one is most convenient for you. If you work in a city with a different time zone it_s your responsibility to get to work on time regardless of where you live.

I have known people who live right on the Illinois/Indiana border and, for simplicity_s sake they just keep to whatever time zone is most convenient. They may not be technically correct but it_s not like there are _Time Zone Police_ who go around checking everyone_s clocks.

  • The folks who wrote those arbitrary time zones actually made an attempt to keep whole metropolitan areas in the same time zone... that_s why almost all of Indiana is in the Eastern time zone, but slices of the northwest and southwest corners are in Central time.

Let_s say you live in Central time and you go to work in Eastern time where you start at 8 AM. 8 AM Eastern is 7 AM Central, so you_ll have to get to work at 7 AM Central time. The good news is that if work ends at 4 PM Eastern, that_s 3 PM Central.

  • You dont get to choose. I suppose theorectically you could but, your house, place of work, ect ect will be in one specific time zone. Just because you are on the line doesnt mean you will fall into both time zones. For example you cable feed will work off a certain time zone. i suppose you could set your clocks to anytime you want though.

And ofcouse if you work in a place thats a different time zone from where you live, you will be responsible for always knowing the difference.

  • You live in a nightmare. From what I can determine you go by two time zones. In other words..you go to work at the time zone they are in and shop during business hours business_s go on. WHen at home you attempt to adjust... makes it difficult to set a cerfew for your kids. AArrgghhhh !

    check this out:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMi4fBF95

  • You just have to be responsible enough to get to work at the time you are supposed to be there according to their time zone.

What is it like to live in Houston, do you recommend it?|177550

Is the housing in good areas affordable? What do you have to say about it in general? Good points and negative points? I haven_t been yet so I_m just asking but we_re planning a permanent move in the near future. I_m a Pharmacist and I have a little girl, we live in Detroit. I_m thinking of Chicago and New York too.

  • Houston is a great and affordable place to raise a family. We moved from Minneapolis to Houston for work. The city itself has a lot to offer! The jobs seem to be doing well during the economic downturn.

Housing was massively cheap from what we were used to in Minnesota. You can get a really nice house (new with 4 bedrooms, 3 1/2 bathrooms, about 2600 square feet) for about $170,000 in a really nice/safe area of town (suburbs).

The best places (in my opinion) to live are as follows:

The Woodlands (really nice, but more expensive than other areas)-North of the city
Magnolia (bigger lots North of city)
Spring - North of city near the Woodlands
Conroe - Way north of the city
Katy - West of the city
Sugarland - Southwest of the city
Rosenberg - Southwest of city (past Sugarland)
Pearland - South of the city
Friendswood - South of city (getting close to coastal flooding areas)

If you can afford it, the Memorial area is nice (west side of city)
River Oaks is the super posh area in town (mega rich area)
Bellaire is on south side of city (expensive but nice)

If hurricanes scare you....I would definitely shy away from the South and East sides of town. Even the way north side of Houston lost power for quite a while after last years Hurricane Ike. Areas like Galveston Island, Kemah, Clear Lake, Dickenson, La Marque, and Seabrook are nice....but if a big hurricane comes, you could lose EVERYTHING.

You also need to make sure that the area you decide on is not flood prone. Houston is VERY flat. Some areas flood very easily. I would stay away from anything close to the Bayous. The Bayous regularly overflow their banks during heavy downpours and tropical storms.

Good luck with everything!! Ask someone in real estate to help you make the right choice of area of town to suit you and your family. They tend to be quite knowledgeable and can help you make your decision.

  • Yes and No.

The city itself sucks (no character, bad design, too much traffic, no decent public transportation), but it does have some good points.

Housing is more affordable here than over major cities. You can find good housing in affordable areas, the downside is that you will have to drive far to downtown. Though depending on where you live and work this might not be an issue. There are good school districts here.

Houston does have museums, theatre, symphony, a football team, basketball team, baseball team, and several parks. There are lots of kid-friendly entertainment places here.

Houston doesn_t have warm weather, it has HOT weather. Four months of 90F+ weather, averaging 95F with a few days of 100F+ with 90%-100% humidity. If you have never lived in hot climate like Houston, you may find it tough to adjust at first. You should really visit in late June / early July to see how hot it gets.

On the plus side winters are mild. Snow is rare. It doesn_t get below freezing some nights, but usually not for more than a couple of hours.

You will need a car to live here. You cannot get around the city without one. If you currently have a car, make sure it has A/C in it. In the summer you need A/C in the car.

Traffic is pretty bad during rush hour. You will need to choose your housing location carefully if you wish to avoid hour long commutes.

  • We just moved to Houston/Katy TX about a year ago. I love it here!
I love the weather. It does get hot, but rather hot than cold or snow. The housing is affordable. There are a lot of job opportunities. Being close to the ocean is the best. Plus we love the hispanic culture. No state tax out of your paycheck is nice, but they make up for it and tax you on everything else, ie clothes. The tax rate on housing is much higher. On a home we looked at for $250K the tax was almost $5500, it just depends on what county you live in.

    Things we hate:
The traffic. The way that it takes almost 1 hour to drive 30 miles across town, depending on where you are going. The traffic lights were programmed by monkeys. They are not timed properly, so there is always traffic and major backups at lights and certain intersections. The bad drivers. People here drive WAY TOO FAST!! It could be 45 and people will be passing you driving 80 MPH.
OH and my car insurance and health insurance went up almost $100 a month just because they say there are more uninsured people living here.

Other than that, we love it.

  • Housing is good and affordable. Far more so than any where else I can think of that offers a true metropolitan area (I have lived in Chicago and NYC as well).

I lived in Houston for 7 years. I loved it. The weather played a big part in that. So did my location. Everybody drives in the Houston area. I lived downtown/midtown on Main Street in a loft. It was great. I never had to drive. I walked to work, to restaurants, to do groceries, etc.

You have a little girl. It may not be as easy to walk everywhere. The outdoor activities are great though.

If weather plays no part in your decision then I recommend Chicago. NYC is too expensive. Chicago is a great city though. Houston is my overall favorite, but mainly b/c of the weather.

  • I have lived in Houston about 20 years and I have also lived a year in Michigan and 6 months in Indiana. I love Houston and will never live anywhere else. There are lots of things to do here. The hospital system is state of the art. Of course it has it_s bad areas as well as it_s good areas as does any other city. Traffic can be kind of bad but it depends on where you need to go. I live down I10 and they have recently widened the freeway so my commute from the Galleria area to Katy is virtually traffic free. It used to take an hour in a half but now takes the normal 30 minutes. We have lots of sports. As you see I love it here.

  • We are Houstonians. Hubby is retired from the Navy and when he retired we packed up our 5 children _ came back home. Houston has been good to all of us. We have been to Chicago _ New York and the west coast. I am proud to call Houston home. We have a huge medical center here. Compared to other lg. cities, we have lower cost housing of all kind.N, NW _ W are the better parts of the city. We live NW in Spring Branch area, 11 miles from the heart of Houston. Our 4 adult children_s families live in NW also but we are more close to the W of NW , if that makes any sense to you. We have been in this house for 40 yrs. My neighborhood has changed. Many Hispanic.
It has never flooded at my home and we are fortunate. Houston is a booming city. Dealing a lot with oil _ oil related things. We have hot summers _ mild winters. Some complain about the humidity but that is what keeps the wrinkles away. We have Galveston _ the Gulf of Mexico about 55 miles away. Lots of nice places to go in and around Houston. If I can be of further help, please go to my profile _ email me _ I will get back with you via my email address. God Bless You

  • please move to chicago..thats where im going as soon as im done with school. Since ur a pharmacist, u should be able to afford chicago just fine..also its waaay too HOT AND HUMID here, u may like warm weather now but in the summer its like 98-100 degrees outside without the humidity, when u factor in humidity thats around 110-120 degrees..if u want warm weather, move to California!!

  • Well, I_ve lived in Houston since I was born. There are alot of things to do here. Just depends on what you enjoy doing. In the summer it can get up to at least 100-105 degrees and in winter it can get to the 50s. But in Houston, it can get pretty boring sometimes. If you want to live in Texas though, try San Antonio...LOTS of fun!

  • don_t move to Chicago unless you love Oprah _ snow.

I wouldn_t live in NY for anything, some people love it but it_s crowded and noisy and expensive as h*ll.

I lived in Houston 20 years ago and unless your in the oil business, I wouldn_t live their now.

  • 6 million people live here so it shouldn_t be too bad, u should come and find out on your own. The guys here are very handsome. i find many single dads who can cook very attractive. just come. NYC should be hard to find work. Chicago i dont know, but i hate cold and windy weather.

  • The bad:
    Too many empty brained republicans
    Bad weather
    road rage
    guns
    crime
    racism
    rednecks
    horrible traffic
    Cops

    The Good:
    The food
    Galveston
    Crawfish
    Affordable
    Lot of green areas
    Good Mayor (Bill White)

  • I have lived here for 35 years. I would rather prefer Austin or San Antonio, Texas. That_s where we, the locals, run to get away for a weekend.

  • Well im moving there soon. The houses are affordable and there nice. But ughh i dont wanna move there :[

  • NO I live here _ I don_t recommend it. I_d rather be in Chicago myself

  • its a big city hot in the summer floods and hurricanes to

  • one bad thing..........too freak_n HOT

  • Houston is the worst **** hole ever! go to Chicago or New York City

Where should a recent college grad look to live in the San Francisco Bay Area?|164467

I graduated college in the midwest a few weeks ago and will be starting my job in SF in August. I know nothing about the area, any recommendations on where to live? Thanks.

  • In San Francisco the Avenues are very nice, The Marina District, Noe Valley. If you don_t mind a commute and are looking for less expensive area_s the North Bay is Nice Marin and Sonoma County. Really the bay area has so many great places to live it depends on what you want and what you can afford. It is very expensive...

  • Live in San Francisco or down the Peninsula and avoid bridge traffic and tolls. You can catch the train into downtown SF from as far as San Jose and the BART from as far as So. San Francisco. But live in SF if you can find a nice place. There is a good SF MUNI and BART public transit systems in the city and you can leave your car at home. The Richmond and Sunset Districts are nice and street parking is not that much of a problem in most parts of it Of course, if you do not have a car that wouldn_t be an issue for you.

If you do want to branch out, live in communities served by the BART system and that would be some communities in the East Bay.

How much more the bridge toll will be soon for people who live in the North Bay (Marin or Sonoma counties) is an unknown. It_s already high. Also, driving the Golden Gate Bridge isn_t safe. There is nothing to protect you from headon collisions and the lanes are narrow.

  • San Francisco is lovely, I_m sure a young, fresh career fellow like yourself will love the environment. Having grown up in the bay area I have a real love for the city. One of the best neighborhoods to live in is the Castro, if you can get over it_s _gay_ reputation. It does have a thriving gay community, but there is a lot more to the district than that. It_s a beautiful neighborhood and it_s a perfect place to live in, it would be a great place to settle in, and once you_re ready, raise a family. Good luck :]
  • What is the best resort in Palm Springs?|164069

My boyfriend and are looking to go to Palm Springs for a weekend in September. We want a nice hotel, but not too expensive. Somewhere in the 180-250/night range. Neither of us play golf, but tennis courts would be a plus, as well as a really nice outdoor pool area. Thanks!

  • You_ve got lots of options!

    Viceroy Palm Springs

    http://www.resideo.com/us/california/pal

    $240/nt (advance purchase discount)
3 pools! One of the highest-rated resorts in the area.

    Desert Springs JW Marriott

    http://www.resideo.com/us/california/pal

    $199/nt
20 tennis courts, 5 pools, 3 spa tubs!

    Rancho Las Palmas

    $189/nt

    La Quinta Waldorf Astoria

    http://www.resideo.com/us/california/laq

    $169/nt
    Tennis, pool, etc...

    Hope that helps!

  • Rancho Las Palmas is a pretty cool place, BUT it_s overrun by kids in the pool area, and compeition for the few lounge chairs is fierce. Not really relaxing. Try one of the others.
  • What is the cheapest way to get from Fort Lauderdale to the port of miami for a cruise to the bahamas?|198553

Southwest doesn_t fly into Miami, it goes to Fort Lauderdale instead, so we won_t have a car, but we need to get to miami for the departure of our cruise. Anyone know the easiest and cheapest way to do that?

  • For lots of options, and suggestions from people who have done it, go to CruiseCritic.com, click on _Boards_ at the top of the page, then go to _East Coast Departures_.

You can also go to the FLL airport website and click on _ground transportation_ to see what options there are.

Using the cruise line transfer service is probably a good option, although you_ll have to wait for the bus to fill up both ways.

If you_re going down the day before [which is always a good idea] you can stay in a hotel in Miami that has a shuttle to the port. Get a _Super Shuttle_ van from FLL to your Miami hotel.

  • Your best bet is to go through the cruise line that you are taking your cruise on. Its also more beneficial for your trip that you use their shuttle services. By doing so, the cruise line knows what flight your coming in on and if the flight is delayed, they will know about and do whatever they can to accommodate you. More then likely, there are lots of people in the same position as you flying into FLL for a cruise out of Miami. I know that Carnival Cruise lines has a shuttle service from FLL to the Port of Miami for a fee. DO NOT take a taxi unless its your last resort. I work in downtown fort Lauderdale, and have taken a taxi from work to the airport on several occasions. A short 4 mile trip usually costs w/tip about 20 dollars!! So for a trip from the airport to the port of Miami will cost you a LOT of money.

  • Not off of the top of my head. However when you decide how you want to do it, go to the below website and put in how you plan on doing it. I have found it to be VERY useful and usually quite a bit cheaper than other places I_ve been to. Just click on the link then go to _book travel_ and it is pretty simple from there.

  • drive, its only like 45 miles, then you can park your car at the pier and pay the daily parking fee.

  • Check Brisatrips.com, they often have cheaper prices. I normally book my Travel on sites that offer good deals like that one.
    Good luck!

  • There are shuttles that take you from FLL to the Post in MIA for $30.00 A PERSON,
  • I am moving to Philly in a few months amp; I need help finding a place in a good neighborhood. Any suggestions?|179927

I am a writer and I like to be surrounded by the arts. As well as a good place for happy hour LOL! Its my husband and I; any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Northern Liberties
    Society Hill
    Fairmount
    Fishtown
    Queens Village
    Bella Vista
    Passyunk Square

It really depends how much you cana afford too, but those are the hip areas in the city. Check out craigslist for places to rent.

  • Art Museum Area
    Northern Liberties
    Society Hill

If going outside of the city, consider the Mainline suburbs or Cheltenham. Stay out of the Northeast (blue collar working class part of Philly) and definitely stay out of the hoods (North Philly and West Philly).

If going on a budget, consider parts of South Philly for close access to downtown and the arts.

How long can someone stay in the US with a visitor visa?|174560

I_m wondering how long someone can, at a maximum, stay in the US as a visitor (non-student, non-working visa). Also, how frequently can they do this? Can they visit for their maximum time, go home, and then come right back and do it again?

  • You know the ONE piece of information that is absolutely essential here? Yup, the NATIONALITY of the person in question. A Canadian can spend 6 months in any one year period in the U.S. without a visa. If he is in the states for 3 months, leaves and returns in a day or two, that is fine. If the person is from the UK. or other visa waiver country, he can come for 90 days at a time, must return home and may come for another 90 days, up to 180 days n a year. There is no specified waiting time between trips. If a person has a b2 tourist visa, he may come to the U.S. multiple times during the 5 or 10 year duration of the visa, just must convince the immigration officer that he can support himself , and will return home ..there is no specified time between visits....People from Canada and visa waiver countries have the best chances of not being turned away.

  • When you arrive, you will be asked the purpose of your visit and your intended length of stay. If it all seems right and plausible to the officer, you will be given permission to stay for that period, or whatever period the officer deems appropriate. You must leave by the stated time. You could then return again, but the point is that it is a big deal in one_s life to come and go, and costly of course, so people do not take this lightly.

If you come in on holiday and say so, and you look like a two-week tourist, that will ring true to the immigration officer, who will grant you that time. If, on the other hand, you are trying to come in and stay on, and you want six months, but you don_t look as if you have the means, they will question you with care and might give you less.

  • It is all up to the immigration officer they stand in front of at the immigration line at the airport. They can decide to let you stay anywhere from 2 weeks up to 6 months. They will stamp your passport and that is your proof of legal stay here. If you get out of the country within whatever time frame they gave you then you can keep coming back as many times as you wish
  • Is there overnight parking at the Greyhound Bus Station?|166446

I am driving from Texas and have family from Michigan coming and meeting in Chicago for the weekend. Our hotel is downtown but neither of us want to drive down there or pay the outrageous parking. They are taking the bus from MI to Chicago so i was thinking of just parking at the bus station and all us taking CTA to our hotel. So is there overnight parking at the bus station or near it that is not $30-$45/night?

  • there are private concession parking lots all over teh city of Chcago but none that are run and operated by the Greyhound bus lines....You can expect to pay bewteen 30-45 for a 24hr period if you plan on parking downtown and you must check before you leave your car. Not all of these allow for overnight parking at any fee. So be sure that the one you place your car in , is one that allows for it...There are plenty of both types to be had...But it isnot cheap of course.......with a little luck your hotel is within walking distance...what is thename of the hotel
