How do you use the buses in San Francisco?|109752

Do you just tell the driver where you_re going and then he asks for the correct fare? Or are there machines where you drop your money in?

  • There are no fare zones for MUNI buses. So, it is a flat $2.00 for 90 minutes in any direction. Simply board and put your money into the slot. The drivers do not handle money and you should have exact change. All they do is give you a transfer on buses.

However, the subway (BART) and commuter rail (Caltrain) systems do have fare zones. In both cases, you_ll have a fare chart posted near the automated ticket machines in every station. You_ll need to know where you_re going to tell the machine to print out the correct amount. The machines - unlike the drivers - are programmed to provide change.

  • some bus stops have route maps which are color coded and with bus numbers to tell you which bus goes on which route. if you have to change bus routes you get a bus transfer from the bus driver and your on your way or you can go to the main bus station and get a bus route map. not sure of the fare but they have a machine on the bus where you pay

  • Must have exact change or a pass. There are visitor_s passes which are a really good deal and convenient and cheaper if you plan to stay in town for 1, 3, 7 days. If you pay, you drop it into a machine next to the driver when you board. Driver does not carry change.

Don_t sit in back of the bus. Tell the driver where you are going so he/she can call out the stop or tell you where to get off. I find other passengers really friendly and helpful, too.

  • It_s $2.00 for adults and $0.75 for people under 18 and older than 65, no matter how far you are going. The ticket usually then is useful for another hour and a half. There_s a machine at the front where you drop your money in.

  • you need to figure out which one, you can ask the driver. But don;t ask the driver for directions, but the passagener get pissed off when ther bus is not moving.

  • San Francisco has the best public transportation system in California but you have to know where you are going.

  • There are fare boxes at the front. You just drop your money in or scan your pass. The fare is either per boarding or per day, so it doesn_t matter how far you_re going.
  • What is there to do on Smith Barracks in Baumholder Germany?|160202

We are moving there at the end of this year and I would like to know from people that have lived there what it_s like. Also what it_s like off post and what is there to do in the city of Baumholder.

  • I was not stationed there for my tour of Germany, I was at Fliegerhourse Kassern out of Hanau.

I would take USO tours al over Germany. The boat trip on the Rhine was just wonderful. Trips to Paris and London were also great. Don_t miss Heidelburg, if you don_t go you_ll regret it.

I also took trips to Italy. Lake Como was very expensive, but worth every penny.

    Look around, enjoy

The EM, NCO or Officers clubs sometimes put on shows.

  • Baumholder is a small town and there_s not much going on in it. In fact, there_s really not much to do in that part of Germany because it_s mostly used for industry and military purposes. Baumholder can be really boring if you stay on post and don_t get out of the area.

The good news is you_re in Europe! You can spend your weekends exploring and sight seeing. MWR offers cheap trips for government officials and their family members.

On post activities include the movie theater, PX, shooting ranges, indoor swimming, gyms, track _ field activities, education center (for college courses), library, fast food (burger king, popeyes, anthony_s pizza, taco bell), and commissary. There_s more, but that_s just off the top of my head.

The weather is horrible! Baumholder is at a high elevation and you_re going to see lots of clouds, rain, and snow (the last couple of years have been light winters).

Soldiers stationed there are constantly in the field or deployed. It_s all about training there.

To make the best of your stay, I_d suggest getting out of Baumholder as much as possible. Take advantage of being in Europe and enjoy the culture.

    Good Luck!
  • About the bus line between Atlantic city and New york city. How exactly does it work?|115205

There is a bus line goes from New York to Atlantic City called lucky streak. I think people take it because they can get their money back when they come back to New York. But how exactly does it work? Do I need to be a frequent rider to get on that bus? how much do I pay initially and how much do they give me back? Thank you for reading the whole thing. Hope my crapy English doesn_t bother you that much.

  • Ahh, the gambling bus. I_ve taken it many times. You buy your ticket at the Port Authority Bus station in NYC. Do not buy a ticket to Atlantic City, they will only give you a ticket to the town, not to the casinos, you won_t get your voucher. You must tell them you want the bus to the casinos!! The ride is about $23 or $27 round trip. I don_t remember exactly. You pay full price in NY and when you get to the casinos, depending on how they_re doing that day you get money back. The people on the bus are total gamblers, they always know which casinos are paying out best, different casinos pay out different amounts. The bus stops at several casinos, once I got off at Harrahs and got 14 dollars back, once I only got 8 at Caesars. You do not get any money when you come back to NY, you only get the money when the bus gets to the casinos. Have fun.
  • How long does it take to ship something from illinois to florida?|125236

A package. i used the regular shipping and it got picked up in illinois at 6:01 p.m.
do they fly it to Florida?

  • By regular, you mean the US Postal Service? If so, somewhere between 3 and 10 days.
Sometimes they fly stuff, sometimes it_s trucked. Depends.
You should have asked when you mailed it and they would_ve told you an expected average time for delivery.

  • What University has a good education program in the bay area?|122455

I was looking at cal state east bay, but it looks like they only have degree programs for health sciences and physical education stuff. I want to teach history/economics/social studies etc.

  • sf state. most teachers in san francisco and the peninsula got their degree from there

your question isnt addressed to me, but yes, a lot of people apply to sf state, not too many apply to cal state east bay

  • Anywhere but UC Santa Cruz and Sonoma State is fine. Cal State East Bay is growing right now and trying to make a name for themselves. SF State is good. However, they are cutting back on accepting applications.

What is there to do around Eastern Illinois University?|196934

i am planning on going to EIU in the fall of 2009, and just wondering what there is to do in charleston.

  • I grew up near Charleston and have two degrees from Eastern. If you want to go to college be willing to study and complete your courses and degree(s) on time. If you can do the required studying and make the grades the first year or two then that frees you up to have more free time to investigate the area around Charleston. Charleston is a small city but Eastern is a great university. There are a lot of historic sites as well as other interesting places to visit around Charleston. With a car you can travel around the area within two hours and see much more. Use the internet to find the exact places which may interest you. A lot of the sites around Charleston are on the theme of President Lincoln.

  • Jackson Av Coffee (Live Music), Bars/Bands(usu. let in freshman), Movie theater, Parties(you don_t nec. have to drink), Champaign is an hour away and they have clubs that let in 19 y/o_s, Campus activities(you get a weekly calendar and there are tons). Overall, its what you make it.. :)

  • How can i volunteer in an animal shelter in Chicago?|174383

Those idiots want you to be 18 to volunteer! I am 17 right now and need a website where being 18 is not required.

  • Talk to your alderman. For a few bucks he can fix anything.

  • First, calling them _idiots_ is neither fair or mature. Many organizations that use volunteers are prevented from using anyone under 18 because of legal and insurance reasons. If you have tried all the shelters, and they all say you must be 18, then you just need to wait. However, you could also try calling _Rescue_ places...the groups that rescue animals from shelters so they will not be euthanized. Also call some vets offices, some of them will let you volunteer in their offices. Keep tying, but do understand that the people that work there just have to obey the laws.

  • wait till your 18
go to a shelter and say
_i want to volunteer in an animal shelter_
  • What are famous and good food spots to visit in sanfrancisco?|172293

can you help me find good placeses to visit in san francisco?
and good resturant? what is sanfrancisco well known for and especially in foods? what resturant? any sites, placese to visit?

  • San Francisco is a great food town. They are famous for sourdough bread. As an old port city it is known for its seafood especially crab and has a famous Fisherman_s Wharf. Gharadelli chocolates and the bar that claims to have invented the Irish Coffee are nearby. The whole Fisherman_s wharf area is, as you might imagine. a major tourist area. If you drink beer try to visit Anchor Steam brewery, a historic and great brewery. Beyond that the city is a great city for restaurants. You_ll definitely want to try the Chinese and visit the famous Chinatown but you will also find cuisines from all around the world and some of the world_s best chefs. Based on your tastes ask when you are here and you_ll get a lot of good suggestions.

Enjoy the city, it is one of the great cities in the world.
  • What bulding sits where Tamanny Hall used to be in Manhattan?|185774

It used to be on the north side of East 14th Street between 3rd Avenue and Irving Place. Multimap shows a large white building with a clock tower but that_s not Tamanny Hall.

  • Tammany Hall is still there...it_s on East 14th/15th Streets between Irving Place _ Broadway.

  • not much there now, here is a link to it

  • What is the best way of transporation to get from Itasca to downtown Chicago where all the bars/clubs are?|123953

I will be visiting Chicago next week but will be staying in Itasca. I_d like to visit the bars in downtown but what are the different ways of getting there and cheaper ways than a cab.

  • There_s a Metra station right at Irving Park (rt 19) and Walnut. Easiest way, it_ll take you right to union station. Lots of places within walking distance or short cab ride.

  • You should try the metra or call RTA for more detailed info. The number is 836-0000 if your calling from any local telephone number. Give them your starting location, time of departure, and ending location and you should be on your way. However, Itasca is mayb 20 miles west of Chicago so there may be some buses involved also. But keep in mind you_ll save taking this route and remember to be safe and of course have FUN.

  • Check out this website:
    http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com/
and be sure to put the address of the hotel you are staying at (you can always ask for the address at the front desk if you are not sure). As has been previously mentioned (and you can confirm this on
    http://www.metrarail.com)
you can take a Metra Train to Chicago_s Union Station from Itasca but not knowing where you are staying in relation to the train station it might be a mile or two away.

One word to the wise....most bars in the downtown area stay open until 3-4am....Metra_s last train out is around 1am. If its feasible you might want to check the El (Blue Line) and ways to get from the O_Hare area to Itasca.

Have fun in Chicago next week!

Where would be the best place to live in the San Diego area?|110472

I am single and planning to move in just a few years. I would like to live outside of the busy cities- I love quiet and slower living.

  • -East Chula Vista (Rencho Del Rey, Eastlake or Rolling Hills Ranch) is laid back. The area is reletively new. Lots of homes were built between 1999 and 2005. They are still building. There are parks, trails, shopping, resturants, and medical centers. Reminds me of Small Town, USA.
-Bonita is quiet and laid back. It_s tucked into a pocket between Spring Valley, National City, and East Chula Vista. Has a lot of country views with ranches. We used to drive through so our daughter could see the horses. Nice golf course there. It is expensive as well.
-The Tierra Santa is laid back and quiet. It_s kind of secluded but not far from freeway access. Not many people have to come into Tierra Santa unless they live or work there. Not a lot of shopping. Two grocery stores, a few shops, Blockbuster, a few resturants, a post office. If you want major shopping you have to cross the freeway.
-Ramona is nice and quiet. A small town with mountainous landscape. It_s a far from downtown San Diego.
-Poway is also reminesent of a small town. It_s secluded but has shopping and is one of San Diego_s best school districts. I know you_re single, but I thought I_d throw that out there anyway.
-Coronado is an island and it_s very laid back like a small town too. It is a tourist attraction and there are military bases there so the traffic during rush hour can be horrible.
-Point Loma (there area which is after Rosecrans and Nimitz Blvd intersect) is very quiet and close to the beach. Shopping is very close but once Rosecrans turns back into four, then six lanes, it_s hectic sometimes because the Sports Arena is in that area.

  • Mmmmmmmmmm, Coronado is just the best place in the world if you ask me. Better start saving fast, it is extremely expensive! But if you could get a small apartment over a shop in town, well now, that would be incredible!

  • San Diego is a big city.

If you move to east county you are outside of the busy city, but.. you are then pretty much in the desert. East County is _quiet and slow_.

The beach communities can be quite but Very expensive.
  • How much should i give in tips in New York?|121172

    Hi,
We are off to New York this weekend and from the replies i_ve had from my previous question we just can_t wait.
First question is New York cheap for buying clothes and if so where would be the best shops.
2nd Question:- How much should i leave tips for taxi drivers, restaurants etc...without offending anyone?
Thankyou for your time and i appreciate any advice you have to give.

  • Hi
I usually tip about 15% and if the service is very nice, a little more

    Manhattan
clothes: I think your best bet would be to go to some of the large stores and find sale racks
the following all have men_s and women_s clothes:
    * Lord _ Taylor - Fifth and 38th St
    * The Gap - stores all over
    * Saks Fifth Avenue - Fifth at 50th St
    * Bloomingdale_s - Lex _ 59th
    * Paul Stuart - Madison at 45th

    and there is
    * Canal Jean - 718 B_way / phone: 226-1130
    * Conway - 35th and B_way or 201 E 42nd St on Third Avenue

    x

  • The rules for tipping in New York are similar to those in most other large cities: you tip from 15-20% of the pre-tax bill, assuming you receive reasonable service. Go over 20% only if you receive truly delightful service. Tip below 15% only if the service was really bad. If it was completely awful and it was clearly the fault of your waiter rather than the kitchen, you shouldn_t leave a tip at all (you might receive a nasty look but probably no words).

The folks who most commonly receive a tip are taxi drivers and restaurant waiters. If a bellhop carries your luggage into or out of a hotel, you tip about $1 per bag. If the hotel helps you get a cab, you tip about $1. If your hotel has a concierge who helps you, provide a nice tip based on the service that was provided.

  • I would say New York definitely isn_t a cheap place to buy clothes, although you might find some shops around China Town or the Lower East Side, especially street stands and street fairs that sell clothes cheaply. In terms of tipping, I would say 20% of the bill (before tax) is pretty standard at restaurants and I usually leave about $2 tip for taxi drivers, unless its to or from the airport in which case I leave more like 5-7 dollars tip. Enjoy your trip!

  • 2nd answer.........only give tips if bill says Service charge not included........Otherwise the service is assumed to be paid for.

  • New York is pretty cheap for clothing and easiest to find a lot of stuff and there are no taxes for clothes and shoes under $110/. You should give the driver at least a few dollars. They won_t care because they_re happy with what they get. For restaurants, only if it_s a fancy restaurant, leave about 15-20% tip of the bill.

  • I live and work as a waiter in the city
Q#1: New York is an OK place to shop for clothes if you_re looking for a good deal on something casual, otherwise no, it_s a bad place to shop because high rent makes store owners raise prises on everything. My favorite place to shop is H_M on 5th Ave. and something like... 45th St.
Q#2 leave about 20%. in a restaurant double the tax if the service is ok, and double and a half if the waiter is cute.
VERY IMPORTANT!! a lot of times a waiter will put T.S. = table service on u, double the tax if you look like a tourist or have an accent, so make sure u read the bill later and ask if the tip is included!!
    have fun!

  • Tips in restaurants 15-20% depending on good service to excellent service. Taxi driver a couple of dollars.

Shopping go to Macy_s. Sale days. Even if you don_t buy, it_s a great store to check out

    Have a great trip)

  • My friend, New York is a the best place to shop for clothes. May I recommned some of the store that will have great discounts on clothes.

-H_M (there are several locations in Manhattan)
-Century 21 Department Store (Church and Cortlandt Street)
-Barneys New York (660 Madison Ave)
-Burlington Coat Factory (6th Avenue between 22nd and 23rd Streets)
    -Chinatown/Canal Street Area

As in regard to tipping, that_s up to you. Some people tip anywhere between 10 and 20%.

    Good luck and happy travels
    Native New Yorker

  • not really cheap but great bargains on designer stuff : Century 21 (near WTC), or for cheap slightly trendy stuff H_M on 5th ave or 34th st. I wouldn_t say new york is the place to get anything cheap but you should visit Macy_s too- it_s gigantic and they have some good sales though maybe not this time of year.

    tip between 15% and 20%

  • Well to find cheap clothes in N.Y is hard unless you go to the ghetto my friend. Other than that N.Y is the Fashion capital of the U.S and its pretty expensive.
The Tip you should always give 10% of what you are charged or more but it_s 10% percent. Have fun in N.Y City
  • Are minors allowed to camp by themselves in the US National Parks?|119081

Is it true that those hawaiian natives are hateful and mean and despise white people?|192605

I heard you should never go to hawaii until the natives change their horrible attitude.
They are also dangerous and the cops don_t do anything to protect tourists.
    Is this true?

  • You are sadly misinformed. As with everywhere, there are some people who never like other people. Native Hawaiians (they don_t really like being called _natives_) are mostly part of the economy and cultural life--if you show respect you usually get it back. There are also Americans of Filipino, Samoan, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Togan, Micronesian as well as white people (which are the predominant race as a whole) both who were born here and who moved here.

Yes, the cops protect tourists. It_s a VERY safe place--low crime but not no crime. Most crime is actually burglary as we do have an _ice_ problem here. People in Hawaii are generally nice and helpful, but we have problems like everyone else.

If you come with that attitude, you will get attitude back. Aloha!

Edit: Hawaiian Dee is also sadly misinformed about life here in Hawaii. As I said, there are problems, but on the whole it_s just different, not worse. I moved here right after high school and took my knocks like anyone and am now considered _local_ by most of my Native Hawaiian friends. I took time to really get to know the cultural, the Hawaiian language, and how things are.

  • You have already received many answers with a lot of good detail. But I just want to add that if you come here with an open attitude, _ want to learn about the local culture, you should be fine. If you come here with the attitude that things are so much better wherever you came from (which kinda begs the question, _then why are you here?_), well, that is another story. There will always be a minority of people who have a chip on their shoulder for a variety of reasons, but most people here are very welcoming. Now, if you are coming here as a tourist, you probably won_t even meet all that many local people, except those employed in the hospitality industry. Lastly, how could it possibly be true that the local police do nothing to protect tourists, when tourism is our bread _ butter?

Question for Dee... if inter racial marriages are such a no-no, how is it that we have so many hapa people here?

  • I think it depends on which island you visit. I was primarily raised on the island of Hawaii (which the state is named after), and I moved to Oahu several years ago to finish my college education. I have to say that it_s been a somewhat bizarre transition for me. Yes, I came from a much smaller town than the city of Honolulu, and many of the locals here tried telling me that my discomfiture stemmed from this. Nevermind, that my family did move around quite a bit, and I had lived in much larger cities prior to living in Honolulu. It took a bit of guesswork for me to figure out that there reason I felt out of place here was because the majority of the local Oahu people I have come across seem to have a very limited perception of what a local should not only how they should look, but also how they should speak and dress. (I am half white, don_t speak pigeon) It was never this way on my island. Everyone was pretty much accepted, an while there were occasional disagreements with the locals and the mainlanders who had moved there, but they were never divisive. Here on Oahu though, I have noticed that there seems to be a lot of locals who are very abrasive to tourists, especially white tourists. I woud_nt go so far as to say that they are dangerous, although you may want to stay out of certain areas of the island. Just be aware that you may face some animosity (read up on Hawaiian history to give you some insight) on your visit, but I would not use that as an excuse to not visit Hawaii. Not all of have that horrible attitude that you may be wary of encountering!

  • 1. Sometimes.

    2. No. But you should consider your relationship to native peoples and the land, and learn the history of Hawaii to understand some of the resentment. As Bob Marley sang,

    _If you know your history,
then you would know where I_m coming from.
And you wouldn_t have to ask me,
who the #3|| do I think I am?_

Do the Hawaiian islands and cultures exist merely to make your vacation a pleasant one? No.

Should they be working to make their islands and social relations look just like the place you just left? No again.

Are there some social and economic issues they could stand to work on? Absolutely, but that_s their problem to solve, not yours.

    3. Some are dangerous, mostly because of the crystal meth epidemic and other social issues, but crime in Honolulu isn_t significantly worse than crime in other major US cities. And our cops work very hard. Their priorities may not be your priorities, but that_s true anywhere.

Some people come here expecting a paradise of racial harmony, and are disappointed when the reality doesn_t match the picture postcard in their imagination. They aren_t interested in finding out more--the why of the situation--so they report back the message you heard.

  • OMFG! all these people who think they know what they_re talking about need to BE QUIET! they have no idea what it_s all about.

white people come here acting like they run the island, and those are the people who cause problems!

and i mean seriously it would be the same anywhere else!!!!!!!!!

and the cops are always there

so to all these people who ask this same question every dammn day shut up you dont know what you_re talking about and quit asking get your a** down here and take a walk in our _native_ shoes trust me you_d get irritated too.

get your history right and facts straight

  • you already have lots of answers and if i gave you a new one it would sound similar to some you already got.

i just wanted to say to hawaiian dee...inter-racial marriages are a NO NO? hmmm...most of the marriages in hawaii are inter-racial. my great grandfather on my mom_s side was pure filipino while my great grandmother was pure hawaiian. i don_t know about my great grandparents on my dad_s side. my grandpa on my mom_s side was full on white and my grandmother was half hawaiian and half filipino. on my dad_s side my grandma was hawaiian and chinese while my grandpa was white but raised by hawaiians. most marriages in hawaii are like that so i don_t understand why you think it_s a no no.

    aloha!

  • First of all there are no _natives_ here. There are Hawaiians. And we have hundreds of tourists who come here and have no problem. This id because the treat that land and it_s people with RESPECT.

Yes there are some hatred for a couple of reasons. The Missionaries took away the Hawaiian language and the Hula. And the overthrow of the islands was an illegal act.

The police do protect the tourist what you have herad in untrue.

  • We just got back from Maui and Oahu. I DID feel like we were invading someone_s home many times when we were there, at least at grocery stores, gas stations, and food stands. Many locals would give us the cold stare and not answer back when we tried to strike up conversation. (maybe they don_t speak much english?). We often felt like a nuisance and wondered why they were so cold, as tourism IS their bread and butter, as boomergal mentioned.

We never felt like anyone was being deliberately hateful or mean, but did feel a little despised. We ventured out to some remote beaches, where mainly locals hung out, and felt sorta unwelcome (kinda like if you walked into a wedding reception where you weren_t invited). We were always respectful and kept in mind that it IS their home, and how would we feel if our neighborhood was overrun with nosy sightseeing groups!

But, I do agree. There was some tension. I wanted to tell them to just relax, and share :) We are admiring their world!

  • I don_t know where you heard such a thing. I have lived in the No. shore of Oahu for years and I have never been treated badly or _hatefully_. It is no different than any other place, treat people like you want to be treated.
I have always respected the Hawaiians and feel thankful they share their island with me. Are there issues..of course!! the same way there are issues with the native American Indians.
The police definitely have a full time job especially in Honolulu/Waikiki..its a metropolitan city, with alot of people/tourist. No different than L.A. or New York.
Personally, I have never felt love as I have here on the islands..... thats why it has the aloha spirit.
    Aloha!!

  • You get the Funniest Question of the Month Asward.

    Congratulaitons.

  • it is dangerous

  • When I went there, it wasn_t toooooo bad, but it_s highly understandable

  • Before I moved to Hawaii in 1984, I visited there with my 3 kids who were small at the time.

We rented a car and went to Kaena Point. If you_ve been there you know where that is. Rather inaccessible, dirt road at the time, extremely narrow and dangerous the farther you go - which I did NOT know at the time or I wouldn_t have gone there. We were just out driving around.

I came to a point where the road twisted around the side and I couldn_t see too far. Just then 2 local males came through so I asked them _how is the road up ahead? Is it safe_?

One of them said _Oh yeah it_s safe no problem, go for it._

The other one hit him in the side with his elbow and said _Don_t tell her that, she has little kids!_

The first one shrugged and said _Yeah! It_s safe! No problem!_

The other one just shrugged and shook his head at that point and they turned around and walked away. I heard the first guy say _So what. They_re haoles._

So I drove on a little further and found that not only was the road not safe, it virtually almost disappeared and for sure my car would have gone straight down the mountain and more than likely my kids would have been killed.

Ok? Yeah, I will never forget that, and the hatred in the eyes of that first guy.

So yes, there ARE locals who hate whites, and I mean REALLY hate whites. Enough to see three little white kids dead.

I should point out that the rest of my trip there was fantastic - as long as I stayed off the West side and hung out in the tourist areas, stayed on the highways, etc. and didn_t get into the local_s areas.

I did end up coming back there each year for the next three years, and always had a fantastic time. I finally moved there in 1987.

My boyfriend at the time decided to drive a pedicab. I guess those are outlawed in Waikiki now, but they weren_t then. There were a lot of locals who also drove pedicab, and they had their own area, their own stands that they stayed by. My boyfriend, who had come over with me, was 6 ft. 6 in. and about 280 lbs. ended up at their stand one day. Three or four guys decided they were going to try to beat the crap out of him for it, but unfortunately for them, my boyfriend picked one up, threw him against a wall, picked the next one up and did the same thing, knocked out the third guy, and I guess the 4th one ran away. So he never had another problem there.

I got a job at the Ilikai Hotel, where I cleaned the parking garages. I had to drive around on a machine that swept the garage floors, and then hop off to pick up any garbage along the sides. I was the ONLY white there in that entire department. The rest were all locals. And I had no problems with them except for ONE guy. And this guy was a freaking nutcase. He was a local, and he absolutely HATED whites. He would follow me around, glaring hatred at me from his eyes. Even sometimes I would be all alone working in the garages and look up and see him staring at me from around one of the posts in there, hatred in his eyes. It was really, really scary after not too long, and I went to my boss (also a local) and told him about it. He put a stop to it IMMEDIATELY. The guy who was following me around and glaring at me was around for a few more weeks, then he left and I never saw him again.

So these are a few of the incidents that happened, these are the more blatant ones. There were always the smaller things too, like getting the cold stares from some of the locals (not all, I got plenty of smiles too!) in areas outside the tourist sites.

Eventually my boyfriend left to go back to the mainland, but I stayed. I got involved with a local guy, and pretty much after that things were fine.

I did know a guy who came here from the mainland, he worked in the post office and got transferred. He brought out everything, his car, his family, the whole household. He left within six weeks to go back to the mainland. He said the locals in the post office were horrible to him, hated him, made his life totally miserable. I thought _wow what a lot of money he wasted to come out here just to turn around and go back._

His kids too, got beat up in school during the weekly _Beat Up a Haole Day_. Yes, they really did have that. The local kids at school would beat the crap out of a white or two every week. It wasn_t of course an OFFICIAL day, just something the local kids thought up and started doing. I don_t know if that still goes on.

So, people who say that there is no hatred of whites in Hawaii are full of it. Oh yes there IS hatred of whites. But I have to say that in all the time I lived there, I found much more acceptance than hatred. I lived also on the north shore for a while, and it_s pretty mellow there, not much of that going on up there. It was mainly on the West side that it happened, or among the locals in the tourist trade, a few of them hated whites.

Like I said, I did get involved with a local guy and things were fine from then on. I had no problems whatsoever. Except for the occasional eye roll from someone who thought that locals shouldn_t be involved with whites, but I didn_t get any overt hatred from then on. So for the next few years I had a great time there, no problems at all. Made a lot of local friends that I still have today even though I moved back to the mainland, we still keep in touch.

So yeah, anyone who wants to move there should be very aware that there are locals who hate whites, but that there are many MORE who don_t and are great people.

Also, you have to take into consideration that their land WAS stolen from them and that_s just not right in my opinion. There was a group when I was there that was just beginning. They were going to try to withdraw from the States or something, and take back the land as theirs, but I don_t know how far this ever got - at least I have never heard on the news that the State of Hawaii has ceceded from the Union and is now an independent country, so I guess they haven_t got too far.

Anyway, oh! About the cops? I never once saw a cop NOT protect anyone in danger, whether they were white or local. The cops there are ok. I don_t know how this may have changed since the ice epidemic hit, but the cops were just fine when I was there. They stayed out of our way, we stayed out of theirs, and everyone got along just fine. I never saw any police brutality or anything like that. Very laid back guys, most of them are, or were.

If I knew someone who was going to move there, and they were white, I would say go for it, but I would also tell them what to avoid, what to watch out for, what to do, what not to do, where to go, where not to go, etc.

    Hope this helps some.

  • YES!

    Unless you are BORN here.......

Otherwise I have been here for 6 years and I have experienced tons of racism, discrimination, and prejudice....

Also I am in a Inter-racial marriage....so that is a big NO NO here! So that makes it worse...

Never have I experience such reticule from people on the mainland as I do here in Hawaii...

But for tourists...its better to stay in Touristie areas and not venture to the WEST SIDE of the Island at all.

There have been many many violent acts of crime there with the locals and tourists...
I never go to that side of the island!

The police do not do anything because they are natives and locals as well
  • How do I get to major tourist sites from Union Station?|131956

I live in the western suburbs and take the Metra-BNSF line into Chicago, which ends at Union Station. I want to know what buses/El trains I should take to get me to these places:

    Lincon Park Zoo
    Museum of Science and Industry
    Museum Campus
    Chinatown
    Navy Pier
    North Michigan Ave. (Magnificent Mile)

Some places I haven_t been to and would like to know how to get there. Others I have been to, but may be taking a longer route than neccesary. I_m also not planning to visit all of these places at once. Just over a few weekends in the summer. I have a CTA _Chicago card,_ so i don_t have to worry about the upcoming fare increases.

  • Check out the RTA_s online trip planner:

    http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com/

Also go to the CTA_s webpage for information, instructions and route maps. Here is the URL:
    http://www.transitchicago.com/

You can take the Red Line L train south to Chinatown and get off at 22nd/Cermak. From Union Station, exit the west side and walk south 2-3 blocks on Clinton to Blue Line L stop (under the Congress/I-290 overpass) and board train toward O_Hare. Go three stops to Jackson and transfer to the Red Line train towards Dan Ryan/95th. Cermak/Chinatown will be 3rd stop to the south. Follow your nose to Chinatown from there--it_s right there. Exit the L to the WEST-avoid going east of the tracks--trust me on this.

For Mag Mile, Navy Pier and the Museum Campus (Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium _ Soldier Field) you are within about 2-2.5 miles from all of them at Union Station. It_s not a bad walk on a nice day. You can exit Union Station towards the East, cross the river and look up. The Sears Tower will be right there. Take a left on Wacker Drive as it snakes alongside the Chicago River. Once you cross Lake Street (Green Line L tracks overhead) Wacker will curve right (East) and you_ll see some of Chicago_s best architecture. Go East along Wacker and you_ll hit the Mag Mile where the river and Michigan Avenue intersect. Wrigley Building and Tribune Tower are the first buildings you_ll see. Follow that north. To get to Navy Pier, take Michigan Avenue north just a couple blocks to Grand Ave--just north of Tribune Tower on your right. Head down the stairs to Grand Avenue and walk East until you are at Navy Pier.

A cab ride is the quickest to any of these places in my opinion--you might end up spending $10 max per leg.

If you want to keep on a budget and still get around efficiently, CTA (includes city buses and the L train) is the best. Get yourself a CTA Visitor pass for $5/day and you_ll be good to go:

I live in Manhattan and I am trying to find a way to go to Metropolitan avenue in Parkchester in the bronx. What bus would i take to go there?

  • Just take the 6 train its much easier.

  • Depending on what part of Manhattan you_re living in, you will have to take multiple buses to get from Manhattan to Parkchester. My advice take the subway instead.

  • How much money would you take to a strip club in Vegas?|107690

I am going in 2 weeks, and I already know that it is going to be a wild weekend.

  • No more than you can afford to lose. Same thing with gambling. Have fun!

  • Well, the drinks are expensive and you tip as you desire but there is NO difference in Vegas strip clubs than in any other state. They are not prostitutes becuase that is illegal in Vegas.

  • Slots, drinks, girls, shopping, food, tips, taxi, other odd things you will find to blow money on..... Depending on income and gambeling ways plus if you have family..... $600-$2500

  • Take as much as you think a stranger is worth. Not too much though, it is sad what alcohol does to horny men.
  • What is so special about the Golden Gate bridge?|105600

And why do so many people want to make tourist there? It is just another bridge, why is it so attractive to tourists I don_t understand what_s it_s significance?

  • The Golden Gate Bridge had the longest suspension bridge span in the world when it was completed in 1937. It has been surpassed by 8 others now.

The center span was the longest among suspension bridges until 1964 when the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge was erected between the boroughs of Staten Island and Brooklyn in New York City. The Golden Gate Bridge also had the world_s tallest suspension towers at the time of construction, and retained that record until more recently. In 1957, Michigan_s Mackinac Bridge surpassed the Golden Gate Bridge_s length to become the world_s longest two tower suspension bridge in total length between anchorages.

  • _The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the opening of the San Francisco Bay onto the Pacific Ocean. As part of both US Highway 101 and State Route 1, it connects the city of San Francisco on the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula to Marin County.

The Golden Gate Bridge had the longest suspension bridge span in the world when it was completed in 1937 and has become an internationally recognized symbol of San Francisco and the United States._

_The bridge is widely considered one of the most beautiful examples of bridge engineering, both as a structural design challenge and for its aesthetic appeal. It was declared one of the modern Wonders of the World by the American Society of Civil Engineers. According to Frommer_s travel guide, the Golden Gate Bridge is _possibly the most beautiful, certainly the most photographed, bridge in the world._ wikipedia.org

  • It_s name make it special, _The Golden Gate_. Also, it_s so awesome to see this huge structure over the bay and able to communicate point A with point B.

Another thing that I feel it makes this bridge special is the color. This orange tone make a cool effect when the background is cloudy. The color also make it look _Imposing_ and _huge_.

As other person said, It_s spectacular to see it with fog. For those who see it for the first time, It_s an unforgettable experience

In conclusion, The golden Gate Bridge is a bridge, but not like any other. For this reason is the most important symbol that represent _The City By the Bay_

    I love it!

  • It_s not just another bridge that connects point A to B. It_s a BEAUTIFUL bridge that functions as a bridge as well as an amazing art piece and yet, complements very well with its natural surroundings.

It is indeed a marvelous engineering structure that has now been surpassed by other newer structures. But you do have to see it in person first to understand the beauty of it. AND to see it in different weather conditions for that matter.

  • For the context of the times when it was constructed (1930s), the GG bridge was (and remains) an engineering marvel. There are a number of documentaries that cover its construction. It has withstood the test of time for aesthetics and engineering.

  • It_s a bridge that_s by the water ^_^

and it looks so cool at night with all the lights! (especially if you_re looking at it from the plane as it lands into the airport)

  • It_s a bridge like no other. See it on a foggy day ! No doubt you_ve never been there.

  • Go see and you_ll know !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

maybe something on the coast? near tracy? modesto? sacramento? monterey? santa cruz? just somewhere fun me and a friend can visit. we want SCAAAAARRRRRYYYYY

haunted hotels? some kind of museum? haunted house? anything really

  • Old Sacramento in Sacramento, CA is located along the Sacramento River and is where the original Argonauts and 49ers arrived to head out for the Gold Fields in the early days of the California Gold Rush. As the town grew, the home owners and shop keepers got tired of the river flooding their homes and stores, so they brought in tons of dirt and raised the city above flood level by burying the first floor of the buildings and moving up to the second level. (So what had been the 1st floor was now the basement _ the 2nd floor became the 1st floor).

As a result, there are rooms and tunnels underneath the current buildings and they are said to be haunted. There are many stories of paranormal experiences reported by owners and staff of the shops in the area that still have access to the lower levels through their shops. There used to be organized tours, but I don_t believe they have them anymore - too bad!! it would be very interesting, don_t you think? See

What really fun things can a 6 year old boy do in the Mackinaw/St. Ignace area in Michigan?|116836

My husband, son, and I are going up to the Mackinaw bridge in about a week. Does anyone know of really cool things that a 6 year old boy can do? I_ve already been to several websites. I dont think he_ll enjoy site-seeing very much.

  • Before you go on the trip, show your son all the Mackinac Island photos on Flickr. Read to him all the nice things people say to each other on that website. Tell him that you_ll let him use the digital camera for the entire trip so that he can take pictures and upload them to Flickr too when he gets back.

I admit this doesn_t work for all 6-year olds, but I know a few who won_t set the camera down during the entire trip, because they can_t wait until they get back to share the photos they took on the Internet.

The best thing about it is all the positive feedback your son will get. Just make sure you_re always there when he_s online of course...

  • Take him to Mackinac City. There_s lots of shops and little rides for him. You can also go to Mackinac Island (take the ferry over), and spend a day there. There_s lots of things to see and do there. There are fun houses and magic shops, with magicians, street performers, lots of horses and animals, parks and lots of things to do.

  • go to mackinaw island, and just wlk around, or you can let him swim in lake michigan.

  • As corny as it may be the Mystery Spot is always fun. They have a miniature golf course now as well. If you don_t mind a little bit of a drive the GarLyn Zoological Park is fabulous.

Mackinaw Island is fun but a bit expensive. The ferry ride is great. You can also go horseback riding or bicycle riding around the island. If he likes that sort of thing the fort can be fun.

Depending on the weather - Thunderfalls Water Park is great! We were just there last week and had a great time. Tip if you go- SUNSCREEN!

    Good luck and have fun!

  • Hunt the beaches for Petosky Stones. They are fossil corals that look great wet or polished.

Also, there are some Agates on the beaches that can be worth hundreds of dollars to Lake Superior Agate collectors.

    It_s like a treasure hunt!!!

How many days should 2 teenagers spend in Disney World?|109859

I am 15, my brother is 17. We_ve never been to Disney World, but we plan on going. How many days should we spend in Disney World? Also how many days should we spend at each theme park? Lastly, what parks should we go to, like should we go to the water parks and what else should we go to? Good and detailed answers please. Thanks.

  • I think that there are definitely things you will enjoy at each of the parks. So if you can, I would visit all four of the theme parks. I usually like to give myself about a week at Disney, which allows for a day or two of things other than theme parks to give me a bit of a break.

At least a day at Magic Kingdom, possibly two. At least a day at Epcot, possibly two if you want to really thoroughly explore all the countries in the back.

Hollywood Studios - some people think this is a half-day park. Personally, I really like some of the rides there and like to do them more than once, such as the Tower of Terror and Rock n Roller Coaster. So for me, I like to spend a full day there. Animal Kingdom - not my favorite, I_m not that in to animals. So this is a half-day park for me.

Water parks - I am not a water park person, but if you are, Disney has two great ones. I wouldn_t necessarily go to them both, but you might like to pick one to spend a day at.

There is a shopping/eating district called Downtown Disney that you might want to visit one day. It_s good to do this maybe mid-way through your visit to give you a bit of a break from the parks, which can be hectic. Disney Quest is kind of an advanced arcade, and it is in this area. It_s a bit pricey, but you might like to check it out.

This is the best planning site I know of. They list absolutely everything there is to do. Scan through the attractions that each park has and come up with a list of must-see attractions for you. This will help you decide how to divide your time.
    http://www.allearsnet.com

  • Having teenagers myself i tell you they would say stay as long as you can. But realistically one or two days for a single trip is fine. that gives you time to go to more different parks.

Like i say to mine you can always go back. I would highly recommend the disney quest in downtown disney for your age group,. Its like a virtual wonderland and definately worth a trip and it stays open late.

    have a great time..

  • At least five. Animal Kingdom takes a good day, Epcot takes a day, MGM takes a half a day, but there are things you might want to do more than once, Magic Kingdom takes a day and a half to get everything in, You should make time to go to Downtown Disney one evening, and Blizzard Beach is the best waterpark it takes about half a day. Visit www.disneyparks.com for more info, and Have fun!!! I_m super jealous.

  • Well, maybe you should spend a week there, if you can. Disney World has four theme parks, two water parks, and a shopping and entertainment district call Downtown Disney. The theme parks are: Disney_s Magic Kingdom, Disney_s Animanl Kingdom, Epcot, and Disney_s Hollywood Studios (I think that_s what its called). The two water parks are Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. It really depends on you to decide which theme parks to go to and how long to stay there.

  • Are you going alone? You won_t be able to stay in a hotel since neither of you are 18. Renting a car is also out, because you must be 25. Perhaps you have other plans for these things, but I wanted you to be aware of these age restrictions.

  • It depends on how much time you have! One day at each park MINIMUM!

You will have a lot of fun exploring Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney Hollywood Studios, Disney_s Animal Kingdom, Blizzard Beach, and Typhoon Lagoon!

    It is an awesome place!

But you can get cheap tickets to it all over at
    http://www.OrlandoFunTickets.com
give them a call, they can also help you plan!

  • Oh, goodness where do I start...
a good idea is to study it and setup a neat and organised plan or trip online.

  • ok i would go to the tyfoon water park for one day disney for 2 epcot for 1 in a half mgn studios for the other half!! and animal kingdom i would 2 so thats like a week!!

  • Try to be there AT LEAST one week. There are several parks. Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom (a must), Epcot, MGM...

  • To get on a flight within the US, you need to go through a TSA agent who scrutinizes all i.d. Your friend_s friend might get questioned at this point.

  • Probably not, and definitely not if his ID is an American-issued one, such as a driver_s license.

  • Depends. They will definitely check his ID several times. I would not take the chance if he is illegal.

Has anyone ever won a disney sweepstake prize or any other kind of sweepstake prize?|122057

I really want to win a disney sweepstake prize trip or any other kind of sweepstake prize trip for that matter, but i really dont know which websites are scams and which are real! Have you ever won any? Can you give me some good websites for them?

Personally with the number of people living in our country/world, your chances are extremely slim. I mean EXTREMELY.

Especially if it_s only 1 person who wins such as a million dollar prize.

    Similar to the lottery.

  • No i Would love to win though. One time my sister found a website in the newspaper and she went on it and you guessed what the christmas ornament was made of for like 2 weeks and she got the most of them right in my city and she won a cam corder, got her picture in the newspaper and met the mayer. Good luck winning a contest. :) _3

  • The only real ones are the ones featured on Disney.com and any company that you can immediately tell is legitimate (ie Fox and ABC).

An obvious detector is the requirement. If it requires you to pay any fees, that screams scam.

  • One time I won a car from Coca Cola. Unfortunately I was twelve and you had to be eighteen or older to win it. Why I didn_t think to have my mom call the number is beyond me.

  • Well one time when i entered a disney park, this lady chose our family at random. We got reserved seats at the indiana jones stunt show.

  • Disneychannel.com.. lol. But nah, I haven_t won any, because it involves meeting people. Scary.

  • no i think they are rigged that friends of ceo_s get to win. they publish names and states but that is a farce too.

  • I won a trip to florida disneyworld from a grocery strore chain,
  • Is it embarrassing to pass resumes in hotels and restaurants through walk in?|177752

We all know that it_s hard to find jobs these days but is it acceptable to pass resumes in an establishment through walk in? Isn_t it kinda embarrassing?

  • Since you posted your question in the Las Vegas category I will tell you that here they want you to use their websites to apply for positions. Even if you walk into their human resource offices they will seat you at a computer to fill out the application. They will then tell you that they will call for an interview if you qualify. When you come for the interview is when you will give them your resume. Otherwise by now following the proceedure your resume will end up in the trash.

  • some of the large casinos do not even have personnel offices on site, they are blocks away. try it but it will not be a good tactic. you need to go the conventional route. do not be a maverick . they do not like it that way out here.
go with the flow. routine way of doing business.

  • Nooooo thats what its all about, or you can do it online but if you have a resume in hand you can go to all the shops and pass them to management all in one shot and get yourself in front of them! I say do it!! There is nothing wrong with that..

  • That is an excellent idea, much better then mailing it, this shows initiative. It also gives you a better chance for an interview. And a chance to meet more upper management.

  • WHat do you mean? You mean you are going in and dropping it off? People love that because then they get to see what you look like and how well you present yourself.

  • Check out Camarillo, California. It is a growing city about an hour away from LA and minutes from larger cities such as Oxnard and Ventura.

Fits your description for all the other aspects

  • South Pasadena, CA. it_s perfect for raising a family:
-close to rail public transit, conveniently between DT LA _ DT Pasadena
    -almost 0% crime rate
-close to some of the best public schools in LA County
    -beautiful community
-doesn_t feel like the rest of Los Angeles

i love it in South Pas, and wish i lived there

  • You choose the place to line in SoCal by where you work. Get a job here first then move to some place nearby. You new coworkers will be happy to advise you.

What you mention describes the Orange County area, with the exception of Santa Ana.

  • Anaheim California is a good place.
There are mixed incomes high to low.
Theres a school called Oxford Academy in the AUHSD district and it_s a good school. However you need to take a test to get in

  • You definitely want to live in Orange County, if that would be convenient for your job. Irvine, Tustin, Orange, Anaheim Hills, Villa Park, Mission Viejo, Laguna Niguel .... basically from the middle of Orange County southward:) .....

  • Honestly, safe, good schools and away from pollution does not describe Southern California. Maybe Oregon or Washington State will give you all that.

  • you_re probably better off visiting before you move and check it out for yourself... if i were you id check out ventura county, stay away form los angeles or orange counties.

  • well there are two options u should never take (south central LA and east los angeles),want to avoid pollution go down to orange county

  • Ventura!! :D

  • manhattan beach, CA
    90266

when you think of cute, beach city
    your thinking of this place

  • big bear lake california! great mountain area . i was born and raised here and love it

  • If you_re rich (and I mean rich), you could try San Marino. Pasadena_s not bad.

  • Where do you work.
  • What time will the sun rise and set at the Grand Canyon south rim on Monday April 7?|100859

I thought that during daylight savings time, Arizona is on Pacific Time. I found a site that says they are always on Mountain time. How can that be if they don_t participate in DS? What time will the sun rise and set on April 7. One site says that it rises at 6:15 am MST and sets at 6:50pm MST (today or tomorrow). Is that true? Why is it MST and not PST?

  • Arizona (most of it) is always -7 GMT.

In the winter, Arizona is one hour ahead of the West Coast, the rest of the year, it is the same. This is why Arizona is always _Mountain Standard Time_. They do not observe _Mountain Daylight Time_.

_Mountain Standard Time_ is equivalent to _Pacific Daylight Time_.

They are one and the same, and can be used interchangeabe since they are always -7 GMT.

PST and MST are one hour apart, but in April, there is no time difference between California and Ariona.

The whole thing is really non-nonsensical (IMHO), and I imagine the country will do away with with Daylight Saving Time eventually.

The time designations are frequently denoted incorrectly on various websites.

Sunrise at the Grand Cayon will occur at approximately 6:15am local grand canyon time (same as Phoenix time). Civil Twilight (when you can actually start seeing the light of the sun crest over the horizon) occurs at about 5:40am.

I would get there at about 5:30am to get the full effect.

If you are confused, set your watch to current Los Angeles,Las Vegas time or Phoenix time. They are all one and the same in April.

Either one of those will provide you with the proper local South Rim Grand Canyon time.
  • Do you know a beautiful scenic place where my husband and I can go to sightsee?|175450

We are from Ohio so we don_t want to go anywhere too far away. We don_t want to go to Gatlinburg because we_ve been there. We want somewhere West of Ohio.

  • well i was going to tell you to go down to townsend in tennessee, near gatlinburg, but you_ve been there it says! if you ever go back, make sure to go to cades cove! it_s BEAUTIFUL! and you can ride your bike on the bike trail!

  • Well, I know you said west ...but you should go to Niagara Falls....there is still time to cross into Canada w/o a passport and when you walk up to the Falls it takes your breathe away!!

  • Little Miami Scenic Trail.

Ton_s of website resources if you google it.

  • I recommend Minneapolis. What a beautiful place, lots to see and do, and it_s not too far from you?

  • go to santorini in greece i went there its so amazing

  • forget west... come east to NY! I live in Orange county, (which is an hour north of NYC!) and have access to a lot of historical sights:

You have the Hudson River, West Point, the Intrepid, broadway, there is an old Army base on Lake George, the catskill Mountain, the Pokonos... the list goes on!

  • Go to Land of the Lakes in Southern Kentucky or to Manmoth Cave National Park in Kentucky. If you go to Chicago, there are many things to do.Museum of Science and museum of Natural History just to name two places.

  • Yosemite, CA. Waterfalls, mountains,....pretty much everything. It_s really beautiful any time of the year. Check it out here
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yosemite_Na

  • .......Grand Canyon? I think that_s somewhere near Ohio.
  • What are the places I should visit in New York City?|199237

    Much appreciated.

  • chinatown, central park, rockefeler centre, empire state building, statue of liberty, brooklyn bridge, times sq

How can I live in the USA without having to marry a US citizen?|176469

I_m a UK citizen, born and lived in London all my life and I hate it here. My dream is to live in The USA one day, but how do I apply to live there without having to marry a US citizen? I have qualifications and am willing to work of course. I_ve heard that the USA does not welcome UK citizens for green cards etc...

  • You have as good a chance of moving the the U.S. as U,S. citizen has of moving to the U.K. It is very difficult either way. Moving to a new place seldom makes an unhappy person happy...and it is heck of a lot of work. As a Citizen of the U.K., you have the opportunity to choose many other places to immigrate to that would be much easier than U.S. Every county has its imperfections...we just don_t seem to see them easily...we tend to idealize other places. Anyway...if you want to apply to immigrate, you can do it just like everyone else does...through the Diversity Lottery. See site below for immigration info. By the way, _COLIN_ is very misinformed. If a foreigner marries an American, that person still needs to g through the immigration application process...narriage just does not do it. Then, if they divorce before 2 yers , the immigrant is automatically, andpromptly deported...these reg are inplace to prevent the very thing he is suggestng.

  • i don_t know try a passport or something or look more into the Internet there has to be something

  • Easy solution.
    Its the states---right?
    OK
Draw up a pre nuptial agreement.
Marry on Monday, and divorce on Tuesday.
he gets his agreed dollars, you get what you want.
    Its called business

  • get a work visa, my friend came here from lithiuania and has been here 2 years now, he loves just go get a work visa.

  • I dont know about now, but many years ago (1993) ,my ex_s uncle wanted to come over. He was allowed to visit, but could not live here. He worked for a company that wanted to open an office here, would have created many jobs, and yes he was turned down and basically told the US had its quota of british at that time. My ex mother in law came over many many years ago, from England and had to be sponsored. The best thing to do now is to go online and look for a legitimate immigration site to get info. Good luck.

  • get a job there first, then go from there. The usa does welcome uk citizens, but since 9/11 it_s nigh on impossible to get a green card.

  • I_ve never heard about America not welcoming UK citizens.

    1. Are at least 18 years old and a lawful permanent resident (_green card_ holder);
    2. Have resided continuously in the United States, having been lawfully admitted for permanent residence, for five years immediately preceding the date you filed your application for naturalization, or
    3. Have, after having been removed from conditional permanent resident status, based upon your marriage to a U.S. citizen, having resided in the United States for one year after the date the condition was removed;
    4. Have resided continuously in the United States at all times after your application to the time and date of your admission for citizenship;
    5. Have, during all periods of time referred to above, been and still are a person of good moral character;
    6. Have no outstanding deportation or removal order and no pending deportation or removal proceeding;
    7. Have the ability to read, write, speak, and understand simple words and phrases in English;
    8. Have knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of U.S. history and government;
    9. Are attached to, and can support, the principles of the U.S. Constitution and can swear allegiance to the United States.

There_s a lot more details on the site...

  • Student visa, you have to be student.
Work visa, you have to be employed.
Tourist visa, you can come and stay for 180 days but not working.
  • What, in your opinion is the best place to live in Alaska and why?|187379

I_m thinking about heading to Alaska, where I_ve dreamed about and set goals to do for many, many years.
I just want to live a quiet sort of place, sort of secluded, that_s inexpensive and yet accessible to a larger city for those bi-monthly trips for necessitates.
I just want to get my book published and work on my photography. A small yet friendly town would be perfect.
I_m looking all over the internet sites on Alaska but would really love to hear from personal experiences.

  • I live in Palmer. I agree with Capt. Ron. We hardly have any want or need to go into Anchorage anymore. Come on up!

  • My wife grew up in AK and I_ve visited there several times. Anchorage is definitely our favorite city, but if you_re looking for something more remote I_d recommend Palmer or Wasilla. They_re both about 40 minutes from Anchorage via the Glenn Hwy, but still mostly rural. Wasilla has grown a lot over the last few years, though, and has a lot of _box_ stores. The housing still seems rustic, though, even if you are 2 miles from a Wal-Mart.

I_m a big fan of the Anchorage area because it maintains a somewhat warmer climate due to the warm ocean air (_warmer_ by AK standards, it_s still COLD in February!). If you want something closer to Anchorage than Palmer or Wasilla, check out Eagle River. It_s a suburb of Anchorage with some really nice houses and only about 10 minutes from downtown.

For more remote locations, like Nome or Barrow, just know that you_ll not be able to travel at all during the winter months - you_re stuck in the boonies until spring! It_s still a beautiful state, however, and I encourage you to pursue an extended stay there.

Also, just a personal note, if you have a choice between driving there and flying there you should most definitely drive there if you have the time. The AK Hwy is 100% paved now, to my knowledge, and it_s the most beautiful drive in North America.

    Best wishes, hope this helped.
  • What are some safe and cheaper neighborhoods to live in in New York city?|112313

What are some safe and cheaper neighborhoods to live in in New York city? I want to live pretty close to Manhattan but not pay an arm and a leg for rent. I plan on renting a room.

  • Astoria, Queens, without a second thought. just on the other side of the East River from Manhattan and Roosevelt Island, and it_s only 15-20 minutes from Midtown even to the last stop on the N and W trains.

  • Astoria, Queens

  • LIC?
    not williamsburg bklyn
    mad expensive

  • Washington Heights, Inwood, Harlem, those are the areas that are becoming gentrified very quickly. I lived in the Heights for three years and my gym was in Harlem, most of my friends live above 160th street to the west side of Broadway. You should also check out Woodside, Sunnyside , Astoria, and Long Island City Queens and maybe Williamsburg, Brooklyn still, Windsor Terrace Bklyn. I_ve lived in all of those places, and they were safe and cool, and great for people who just finished grad school, were raised in the suburbs and want to live in NYC.

  • Safe and cheap neighborhoods to live.

    Queens
    -Astoria
    -Long Island City
-Northeastern Queens (Bayside, Whitestone, Beachhurst, Bay Terrace, etc.)

    Brooklyn
    -Fulton Ferry
    -Fort Greene
    -Brooklyn Heights
    -Clinton Hill
    -Prospect Heights
    -Park Slope
    -Boerum Hill

I hope this information was very helpful. Good luck and happy apartment hunting.

Where are some places that will hire a 15 year old?|174379

I am in desperate need of a job, but at 15 it is a little hard to come by. I live in Tennessee so please stick to places that are in this state:)
I feel that I do have a strong work ethic, I_m reliable, and I have a personal goal to do the best I can in anything. I_m hoping this will help me out;)
Also, any tips you can come up with would be very much appreciated!

  • If you want us to stick to places in Tennessee you should place your question in Tennessee and not here in Las Vegas. Placing your question in the correct category will get you better answers. Check with you school_s guidance counselors. They usually have job placements available. Good luck.

  • well many will not hire you until the age of 16
you might want to try McDonald_s
    Burger King
    wendy_s
    dairy Queen
    a local supermarket

Why is the weather in Orlando, Florida has always been a bad weather since june thru july?|157635

I_m planning on going to Disney World since I booked it in May and I_m leaving next week on the 17th of July, But the weather there hasn_t even change yet and it been the same since june already. I_m more happy to see more sun than dark cloud and thunderstorm.

  • Its always like that every year. Its called Hurricaine season. Every year from the end of may/beginning of june till mid september it rains everyday. usually thunderstorms. They usually come around 3 in the afternoon and clear up by 5 or 6. but sometimes they dont come at all sometimes they come all day. Its hard to predict. The summer is definately not the best time to plan a vacation to orlando... you might be a little disappointed when u cant do everything you want to do. If you are dont let that discourage you from coming back... next time i suggest comming around october-november (hurricaine season is over, still warm and and sunny)

  • This is typical weather throughout much of the Southeast during June and July. The sun heats the ground all day, and the humidity rises. This causes upwellings of air. Cooler air comes in, clouds form, build into thunderheads, and, _BAM_, you get afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
These storms usually last 2-4 hours at worst. So, go ahead and plan to enjoy hot, sunny days at Disney World. Plan to drink LOTS of water!

  • Not sure what you are talking about. The weather in florida always the same in the summer, with a risk of storms. But the sun is out most of the time. Often times the afternoon is when a passing t-storm hits. It never lasts long, and ussualy cools things off a little.

  • its been raining everyday because its hurricane season. Theres nothing u can do about it, just make sure u bring a umbrella.

  • I grew up in Orlando. An old man once told me that the weather there has been like that ever since they started shooting rockets at the moon (!).
  • What is a nice town in Montana to move to?|171116

I am planning to move in a year or so and I am thinking about relocating to Montana. I really want to move to a nice small town. I don_t want it to look trashy but I want it to be a beautiful place that is close to a somewhat big town. Anyone know a good place?

  • My boss said Missoula_s a good town.

  • Ask Hannah.

  • Billings
  • Any words of advice for a first-time visitor to Bricktown in Oklahoma City?|120393

We_re going to see Matchbox Twenty at the Ford Center at the first of March and want to know of any good restaurants to eat at before and a good bar and/or club to hit afterward. Thanks!

  • GO TO TOBY KEITH_S BAR AND GRILL OR ZIO_S, WHICH IS A REALLY GOOD ITALIAN RESTRAUNT. CITYWALK OR SKYY BAR ARE THE BEST CLUBS IN BRICKTOWN. DEPENDING WHAT KIND OF TIME YOU WANT TO HAVE, SKYY IS ALOT MORE CLASSY, CITYWALK IS GOOD IF YOU WANT TO PARTY. MY PERSONAL CHOICE IS CITYWALK, WE GO THERE ALMOST EVERY WEEKEND. IT IS FREE FOR LADIES UNTIL 10, SKYY IS $8 FOR EVERYONE, I BELIEVE.

  • What is a Bricktown?? Been to Tulsa before...... worst city ever! Oklahoma in all is a pretty boring state.
  • How many hours is it from Burbank to Artesia by car?|195277

How many hours is it from Burbank to Artesia by car? I need to know because I might be traveling there in January and I_m from Canada. Please answer!

  • It all depends on the day (and time of day). The distance is only about 30 miles if you take the 5 freeway (around 45 km?- sorry I don_t know the exact distance in kilometers). If you are traveling there on a weekday afternoon or even on a Saturday, I would allow at least 1 hour, maybe even 1 hr. 20 min. because the 5 fwy. is usually packed, especially going through downtown Los Angeles.
Otherwise, I don_t think it should take more than 45 minutes.

Another option would be to take the 134 East to the 210 East to 605 South to 91 East. This route is at least 10 miles longer, but you do avoid going through downtown Los Angeles.

    Good luck!

  • Totally depends on traffic. Everything in LA depends on traffic. Just DON_T drive from 7-9 am and 3-7 pm on the freeways. Avoid it at all costs: you will be stuck in the most annoying parking lot ever!
  • When is the best time to visit USA?|104909

We are planning to visit Disneyland in Florida? What other places can you suggest? We are family of four (w/ a 4 and a 8 years old kids)

  • July and August are THE hottest months, and the lines are longest. If schools is not too much of an issue, I_d say go at the beginning of May through early June. The weather is perfect, and not too many tourists are around yet.

Budget friendly: The beaches in Orlando, FL are always fun for kids. There are also some places you can go where the kids can swim with manatees! Its really fun and quite safe.

Not-so-budget friendly: Universal Studios or Seaworld.

    For more options:

    http://www.orlandoinfo.com/articles/thin

  • I would suggest that you visit in the spring or the early fall. If the summer you may get too hot with the children. I would suggest that you also visit the Smoky Mountains and the Gatlinburg area, the Nashville Tennessee area and for political reasons the Washington D.C. area. New York would also be a good place to see the Statue of Liberty, and ground Zero where the towers fell. Our country has so many beautiful areas that are vast and diverse. Utah and Arizona are beautiful as are California and states in between. I have been to almost all the states and found something beautiful and interesting in each and every one.I hope that you have an exciting but safe trip and let us know how you like our country

  • obviously youll never be able to see everything no mattwe how long your in the states. Small tip though, DisneyLAND is in california, DisneyWORLD is in Florida. The time of year you visit depends on what other activities you want to do. Skiing, Snowboarding, etc obviously come in winter. you can still visit Disney during winter because of the location, its warm where either are. I suggest Washington DC if your in to history. Dinsey though can take up a lot of time easy.

  • well it depends on which state, and theres the north and south, if your going to visit the north side i would choose summer but if your visiting the south i would choose spring. I live in Texas and I visit Oregon and Washington every year so I would know.

  • Christmas time at Disneyland is great. Otherwise, anytime between October and March is best in my opinion. As for the U.S.A. in general, anytime is a good time. It depends on your interests and the time of year.

  • just be careful in florida, their have been alot of tourist being hurt in florida , stay out of the rough parts
  • When do the schools go back in Sept 2009?|186095

We are planning a trip to Southern California and were wondering when the schools will be back so that we can plan our visits to the theme parks around this (hoping for slightly less crowds!) Thanks for your time.

  • It depends on the school. Some start as early as mid august. But by the 2nd week in september you should be pretty safe.

  • september the first, you can check it here

How can I get reservations at Crystal Cove Cottages on the California coast?|183712

All dates show _not available_. I contacted ReserveAmerica and they indicate that rentals come available on the 1st of each month, are not pre-sold, are first-come first-serve, and go fast (and you can only reserve 7 months in advance). I haven_t tried waking up at midnite to make a reservation, but have been online as early as 5:30am. There has got to be a way that people are getting these reservations. Any clues?

  • They open up the on-line reservations at 8am on the 1st of the month. You can sign in 15 minutes early so you don_t waste time doing that when the reservation system _opens_ for new reservations at 8am.
It does book up as soon as the dates become available on the 1st. Because of their late check in and early check out requirements you have to book at least 2 days to enjoy the place.

  • they open every 1st of the month at 8:00 AM sharp, but don_t hope too much, because I never get through....Good luck..._ if you can get through and got extra cottage, contact me....
  • Which is best to visit in Florida during the summer?|181795

Which is the best to visit in Florida during the summer...Miami or Orlando? I was thinking Miami because of the beaches and stuff. But I_m afraid Miami might be too dangerous? Idk?

  • It depends on what you want to do. If your heart is set on going to the beach, then Orlando is out (unless you want to drive 45 min. to Daytona). Of course, if you love theme parks, then Orlando_s the place for you.

Miami Beach isn_t that dangerous. The dangerous part of Miami is away from the beach. You can have a great time in either place.
  • How Close Can Visitors Get To The Volcanos in Hawaii?|192119

My uncle is 76 years old on Sunday and is planning a trip to Hawaii from England. Has anybody any experience of an older person making this same trip?

  • Saw a few elder personal doing the walk to the lava flow. It is a long walk (a few miles back and fro). Night time viewing is maginificant but do not advise for people who are not physically fit. If your uncle is strong _ healthy, be sure to bring strong flash light and follow the crowd.

To make his journey more enjoyable, a helicopter ride might be a better way to view the scenery. Please do check with his doctor to make sure he does not have any health restriction.

By the way, if anyone has astmas, not advise to visit the volcano. My sister has the problem and that made her breathing very difficult.

Also, bring a light jacket. Volcano park is cold at some areas, it is not firey hot.

  • WHAT SUNNI SAID
    LIVE ALOHA!

  • There is all kinds of tour rides. They will take you as close to the volcano as safety will permit. It is really a awesome experience. I went in the 70s so things have changed since then. Join your uncle if you can. It is a trip you will never forget.

  • You can walk INSIDE the caldera of all of the Hawaiian volcanoes. The lava usually flows downhill, in underground lava tubes until there is a break in the tube or until it reaches the ocean. The paths within the craters are usually well marked and generally safe, but very l-o-n-g. He should consider renting a wheelchair if he has problems walking.

Does your uncle have asthma, bronchitis or any breathing problem? If so, he should NOT get close to the volcanic fumes. The fumes contain sulfur compounds that will inhibit his breathing.

Remind him to wear sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, comfortable shoes, long pants, a jacket and to bring some water and a decent camera.

  • If your uncle is 76 I would suggest you take a bus tour (or just drive your car) around the Volcanoes National Park. You can_t actually see the volcano erupting but will most likely be able to see the lava entering the ocean (depending on viewing conditions that day). I would highly advise that your uncle stay in the car as much as possible though as the walkways are often uneven and hazardous.

Hope he has a great time!

  • Elderhostel is the best bet and they have a program that includes Hawai_i Volcanoes National Park:

Follow the journey of Pele, Hawaii_s volcano goddess, from Kilauea_s current eruption in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, to Haleakala on Maui for a bird_s-eye view into the volcanic crater, enjoying black sand beaches, stunning waterfalls and fascinating remnants of ancient Hawaii along the way. Then on to Kalaupapa, on Molokai_s peninsula, where Father Damien ministered to Hansen_s Disease patients, and to Kauai where you will see Waimea, the _Grand Canyon of the Pacific,_ and watch seabirds soar over the lighthouse and cliffs. • Actually, people can go right up to the lava flow-- At various times depending on the direction Pele wishes to take, the flow is a couple miles_ walk (over bumpy lava) from the nearest road--- at other times it is actually flowing over the road. So it all depends.
We_ve walked right up to the streams of lava, melting the bottom of our shoes in the process. Not very safe, or recommended however. But absolutely unforgettable.
An elderly person will only be able to possibly see the flow from quite a distance, BUT there are helicopter tours that go over the lava-- Quite impressive.
Again, Pele is whimsical. Sometimes you see her, sometimes she hides!

  • Actually, it_s all a myth to get people to spend their money in Hawaii---there is no flowing lava, hell, there aren_t even any volcanoes here! Go away. Go vacation in scenic Iowa or Nebraska. Hawaii sucks, don_t come here.

  • Hi,
About your uncle at 76, I_m now 62 and I_ve made the hike three times to see the lava (break outs) flow at the end of Chain of Craters road. The hike is over very hard to walk-on lava. The trail might be beaten down some, however, it is up and down and very rocky. If your uncle is in very good shape, just maybe he could walk it. I think his best bet is a Helicopter ride. If he is set on making the trip make it a two day adventure. I suggest spending one night at the Volcano House. It_s right on the rim of the Kilauea Caldera. Within walking distance of my two favorite sites the Steaming Bluffs and the Park visitors center. The views from the Volcano House are spectacular looking into the caldera. There are a lot of places to visit you can pick up a guide at the visitor_s center. Try this site www.nps.gov then find Volcano_s National Park. How ever you make the trip it will be fun.

  • make shure that your uncle has good lungs u cant get to close to the volcano but theres parks u can go to (dont take the hellacopter ride its not safe)also the gas around the valcano can be deadly u should go with yur uncle to watch over him and make sure hes ok
  • How do I avoid long lines at Disney World?|173493

We_re going to Disney World for the 4th of July weekend any tips for avoiding long lines? My kids are 4 and 6 so we_ll spending most of the time in the Magic Kingdom but will be visiting all of the parks.

  • The fourth of July weekend is the second busiest time of the year to visit Disney right behind Christmas, so long lines are inevitable.

    http://mouseadvisor.com/travel-planning/when-to-go/

However with a little planning you should be able to see quite a bit. Try to get to the parks early. I know you_re on vacation but if you can be there for the _rope drop_ (when they drop the rope to open the park) you_ll be ahead of the game. Instead of trying for full days at the park try leaving after lunch for a swim in the pool or nap back at the hotel. If the kids will take a nap you_ve got a shot bringing them back and staying later in the park when the lines are less crowded. Learn to use fastpass to your advantage, if you pay attention to the times printed on the tickets you can secure two fastpasses at once. Here_s a link to a guy who shows you how and did every ride in Fantasyland in under 4 hours on Memorial Day weekend!

    http://www.mousemanual.com/blog/fantasyland-4-hours/

I see some of the people recomend getting a wheelchair there is a $10 fee for regular wheelchairs and $30 for electric ones. While it may _work_ I don_t think it_s the right thing to do, but as Jimminy Cricket would say _let your conscience be your guide_

  • My family just got back from Disney World. Some of the rides have the fast pass where you can insert your pass and it will give you a time to come back. Example 4:00-5:00 When you go back to the ride during that time frame you can walk right in and the wait time is cut in half most of the time. I don_t know if you know or not but you can take things like bottled water and snacks into the parks. It saves on money big time! Hope this is helpful info for you and you guys have lots of fun!!

  • You_re probably going to have long lines because it_s peak season. Try getting speed passes for the rides and attractions. They worked well for me. I still had to wait in line but not as long.

  • put someone in a wheel chair.. you get in all the rides quicker

  • You_d be surprised how the crowds at the Magic Kingdom are no greater on a major holiday! There is a new system in place where you get a _ticket_ telling you when to return to the line so that you don_t have to stand in the line the entire time. My son and his family just returned from there and told me about it. It_s called a FASTPASS. Check on it with your travel agent or ask about ASAP after arrival.

  • dont go

  • Go with someone Handicapped. They always get free cuts in line!

  • During the 4th it is pretty much impossible to avoid. You are going during one of the busiest times for Disney. Most of the parks will likely close to capacity. Meaning, no more people can fit it, so lines will be long. I_m going over that time period as well and still considering whether I am going to the parks on the 4th.

But, to give you a few ideas. When you enter the parks, go left instead of right. You may be able to avoid some lines this way. Get a fast past ASAP for the more popular rides, they will likely runout, so you will need to get them as early as you can. Be sure to take advantage of any extra magic hours. Finally, don_t go to the fireworks and/or parades. Everyone is there to see them and if you don_t go, there is pretty much no line.

  • Most of the rides have this special ticket you can get. It doesn_t cost anything. You just go to the kisosk next to the line and it gives you a time to come back and you come back and give your ticket to the people and they move ya through the line !

  • Many of the popular attractions have what they call a _FastPass_ system. You go to the attraction and swipe your _entrance ticket_ and in return, a ticket will pop out telling you what time to come back for the ride...it will vary such as: 11AM - 1 PM. That means, come back to the ride between those times - then you_ll get in the FastPass line and bypass about 80% of the line. In the meantime, you can go on other rides instead of waiting in a long line. Have fun!

  • 1. GET THERE EARLY! Don_t get there when the park opens, get there when the employees do ;)

    2. Fast Pass. Find the ride everybody wants and as soon as you are close to it get a Fast Pass and then go let the kids play in the water or other climbing parks.

    3. If staying on property leave the Park mid afternoon and come back. Check the hours but people start dieing off from the heat and you would be surprised how few stay till closing.

    4. Pack umbrellas, rain gear and change of clothes then pray for rain. It will chase folks indoors or out of the park ;)

    5. When you get so hot you can_t take it any more do the Bugs Life.

    6. Plan! Get a map before you go, find the rides the kids want and hit those ASAP because they are going to be dead by mid afternoon.

    7. Hats! Sunscreen! Good shoes! Lots of Rest Before hand! Good Breakfast! WATER WATER WATER!!! Bring in your own bottle, those fanny holders or otherwise to strap water on everyone is a good idea.

    8. The 4 year old may not want it but I_d grab a stroller or bring one. They work great for carrying the extra stuff around and like I said he will be dead by mid afternoon.

  • Try to get a Fast Pass. You use them on the popular rides. they have little machines in front of the ride and you swipe your pass and it gives you a ticket that tells you when to come back and you don_t have to stand in line. It_s been a few years since I_ve been there, but this helped us out alot. The Magic Kingdom was the busiest park when we were there, it always seemed packed. Have FUN!

  • It_s almost impossible, particularly on July 4th weekend. You can expect large groups, especially from South America, but that also makes it fun.
Here_s some ideas that may help:
Use Fast-Pass whenever possible; Go to the back of the park when you first arrive and work your way back to the beginning (most people start at the front); Go to the left line if possible.

Also, if your staying on WDW property, you can get into the parks earlier and sometimes stay later.

Check out these sites: http://www.wdwinfo.com/ http://disneyworld.disney.go.com and enter tips into the search bar.

    Hope this helps.

  • Fast Passes!
They_re free and all you do is stick in your park ticket and you get a fast pass that says what time you can return and when you do theres hardly a wait in the fastpass return line.

  • Good Luck. It_s summer, peak season and the lines will be long.
Hard to avoid no matter what. Try getting there early in the morning for Fast Passes.... but if too crowded, they run out before the end of the day. Best times to go is off peak season, March/October/Early November. Good Luck

  • Use FastPass whenever you can, espesially if you will have children with you. We went in November and this saved us from standing in lines for those hugely popular rides. You use the room key card. Insert it into the FastPass machine and it will give it rght back along with a ticket that has your ride time stated on it. When it is time, you just get into the FastPass line instead of the regular one and they take you right in. The was a few minutes wait when we got to the entrance to some of the rides, but it was mainly because the previous riders had not been unloaded yet. The people that didn_t use FastPass were standing in line for over an hour at the more popular rides.

On a side note, I also recommend using a backpack if you have kids with you. You can carry your camera supplies, your PhotoPass cards, snacks and drinks for the kids and it saves your back and arms because you will do A LOT of walking. Have Fun!!

  • Many of the more popular rides offer a _FASTPASS_ . You get a ticket that tells you to come back at a certain time, and you can get into a shorter line. Use the time waiting to enjoy the other things close to that ride...shops, restaurant, gardens. Then return to the ride at or around the indicated time, and enjoy.

  • There_s a couple of options I can suggest. First and easiest is the FASTPASS. Basically you grab a FASTPASS ticket and it says come back during a certain time period and you avoid the lines. Now the FASTPASS isn_t available at every single ride though and the number of passes given out per day are limited.

Second is going to the parks early, the earlier you get there is lower the line. But keep in mind it will get busier and there will be long lines regardless of the time of day. I recommend getting the park hopper option on your tickets so you can check out a different park in the afternoon to get away from the crowds (Magic Kingdom is going to be the busiest park and so you can go there in the morning and check out a different park in the afternoon).

Last but not least, I suggest trying to stay on site and the reason why I say that is when you stay on site you can take advantage of what is called extra magic hours. The extra magic hours are when Disney opens a certain park an hour early and a different one up to 3 hours late. Disney has a schedule of which park will have these extra magic hours. Now which ever park is offering the extra magic hours will be a lot more crowded so just keep that in mind. Disney has about 30 resorts so keep in mind that all those people will be using the extra magic hours too. If you_re going to do take advantage of the extra magic hours though, I would do like I suggested before and only spend half a day at that park and go to another.

Before you go I would also check out some fan sites and maybe some travel books.

  • Regardless you_re going to have to deal with lines and crowds especially during this time of year and that particular weekend (one of the busiest) but some ways to avoid the lines is too:
    1) Arrive at the entrance to the parks at least 30 minutes before park open (people do line up early)
    2) Head straight for the _biggest_ attractions and collect there fastpasses (you can hit those attractions up any time after the first time given)
    3) Rider Swap Passes, for those that your little one can_t or doesn_t want to go on (It_s only good for the second rider though), go to FastPass entrance and ask the Cast Member for information
    4) Pay BIG MONEY for a tour guide during your stay
    5) If staying at a WDW Hotel go/stay for the Extra Magic Hours, they are alot less crowded, but only select attractions are open.

Remember not to get stressed out otherwise it will affect your kids enjoyment, then it will be nothing but a HUGE waste of money. Just relax and enjoy your trip, for you will be at the _Most Magical Place on Earth_.

PS The _wheelchair trick_ DOES NOT work, they have to wait in line just like everyone else...

  • Get there early and do all the really good things first; the ones that get a lot of lines. Then when it starts getting packed, hit other shows and stuff.

  • cut in line. say your kids have cancer or something if someone tries to stop you

  • dont go then its always busy

  • Start by going left-it_s human nature to go to the right when entering. Go left-there_ll be a ton less people at those rides. Works every time!

  • You_ve got to be joking ? You have a better chance at winning the power ball lottery ! That_s one of the worst weekends to go. Why are you asking a question you already know the answer to ? It_s impossible to avoid long lines there. And with kids 4 and 6 ? LMAO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Plan plan plan. If you are staying at a Disney resort look into the extra magic hours that_s when the park stays open later or opens earlier for resort guest. Also look into information about the Fast Pass which lets you get into a much faster shorter line in the big attraction. The fact is you are going during a very busy time. My best advice is to save your money, stay home and go to Disney world in August or September. The weather is perfect and there are almost no crowds. Your family will enjoy it MUCH more!
PS: Also look at allearsnet.com the is the best Disney planning site!

  • Last time I was there, I noticed people in wheel chairs, and all the people with them, got to go to the front of the line. They didn_t all look crippled to me. Pretend to need a wheel chair. Maybe wrong, but you asked.

  • i live in florida and i go to disney alot the best suggestion is go after the 4th of july like wait a least a week and get the fast passes

  • Wow, hate to break it to you, but I_ve heard that Fourth of July weekend brings in some heavy crowds. :( Regardless, you can still have fun of course, and here are some tips that have always worked for us:

~Use Fast Passes. If you don_t know how they work, ask a Cast Member as soon as you enter the park. If you don_t know what they are, they are basically free tickets that offer you a time frame to go to a particular ride/attraction and pretty much walk right on/in.
~ Don_t dash inside if it rains- most everyone else will duck into a restaurant or gift shop, and you will find shorter lines as a result.
~ Skip the parades. Since so many people (especially those with children your age) will be sitting, waiting for, and watching the parade, you should get at least a good hour or so to hit some attractions you may have skipped earlier in the day.
~ If you_re staying on property, see if any of the Extra Magic Hours are for the Magic Kingdom either of the days you are there. There is a calendar with updated hours on the official Disney website.
~Eat at _off_ times. Most people stick to eating at traditional times. If you can get your family to eat earlier or later than the crowds, you often find shorter lines for rides (and the restaurants are packed anyway).

Have fun, and as an important side note, don_t get so worried about missing out that you push yourselves too far. I haven_t been to WDW on the Fourth, but I have been during July, and the heat can be brutal! Make sure you make time to relax a bit, too. ;)

  • you could get a fast pass

  • well your gunna have long lines lol but ummm....to answer you question definetly plan what rides you really wanna go on and get the fast passes as soon as you get in the park as for the REALLY long line i would say is the peter pan line that ride takes FOREVER
