What are some great things to see and do in Philadelphia?|154740

I am planning on taking my kids to Sesame Place which is close to Philadelphia. I would like to get a hotel room while I am there for the weekend and enjoy the city as well. Are there any great recommendations from anyone of things to see and do? Thanks!

  • Here are some things you should look up:

    The Please Touch Museum (Children)

    The Franklin Institute

    The Reading Terminal Market

    Pennslanding

    Camden Aquarium

    Liberty Bell/Constiution Center

    The Duck Boat Tour

    NJ Battle Ships

    The Naval yard

The Art museum (Not fun for children but is free on Sunday mornings)

    And much more!

    Have fun @ Philly!

  • If you_re taking your kids to Sesame Place, I_m guessing they_re pretty young and probably wouldn_t get the whole US history thing yet, such as the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall tours. However you might like to see it, it_s a pretty area and there_s lots to take in. To keep the kids entertained take a ride on the Ducks...It_s an amphibious vessel that drives around the historic areas and also goes into the river. There is also a great museum, the Franklin Institute which is interactive for kids and they love it. As far as a place to stay, I would recommend the Embassy Suites on the Ben Franklin Parkway. You and the kids can have a decent sized room, convenient for walking around and checking things out.
    Have fun!

  • Sesame Place is in Langhorne, but its close to Philly. It will probably be a 45 minute drive from the city. If you stay in Philly you can go see all the historic stuff, that_s always fun. Old City is cute, shops, restaurants, Liberty Bell, the Constitution Center. You can go for a stroll at the zoo..first zoo in America!..have fun

  • The Philadelphia Zoo! Or take one of the tours on the big bus tour. Depending on how old your kids are the Independence Hall and Liberty Bell are also in Philly. Have fun!

  • Definitely get a real Philly Cheesesteak, not some sandwich that they claim it as one at Fuddruckers.

  • eat a real philley cheesestake
  • What is the Yavapai lodge in the Grand Canyon like?|153380

I am going to visit Grand Canyon about in one weak, and stay at Yavapai lodge for 5 days. I want to save money, so thinking to buy some foods and water before I enter the park. Is there a microwave in each room of the Yavapai lodge? Or, do you have any good idea for the meals inside the park?

  • I just stayed at Yavapai Lodge about a month ago. My room did have a small refridgerator, but no microwave oven. That is probably true of most of the rooms at Yavapai, but you would be wise to call and validate.

Yavapai Lodge is nothing fancy, but it is nice and comfortable (and less expensive than the others). Its biggest downside is that of all the park lodges, it is the only one that is not within easy walking distance of the rim. But it is still inside the park, in a nice pine-tree area, and being away from the rim means a bit more peace and quiet. I personally pefer Maswik lodge which is very similar to Yavapai, but near the rim. Yavapai is fine though.

From a saving money on food perspective, one big advantage to Yavapai Lodge is that it is located in the market area - where the small village grocery store is, as well as the post office, etc. You could probably eat pretty cheap by buying stuff at the grocery store - which will be a bit more expensive than one in a big town, but still much cheaper than eating at one of the park sit-down resturants. The store also has a small snackbar area that is probably the cheapest prepared eats at the canyon.

As far as the canyon restuarants go, the cafeterias at Yavapai Lodge and Maswik are the cheapest, but still a bit expensive by outside standards. It depends on what you get, of course, but $8-12 per meal there is probably a pretty normal range for food and drinks. Some of the little tourist resturants outside the park gate at the little roadside community of Tusayan are probably a bit cheaper than the park ones, but not by much and you have the hassle of having to leave the park to reach them. Tusayan has a McDonalds which is probably the cheapest option there.

The nearest _real_ towns with large grocery stores and a wide range of eating options are Flagstaff (.15 hours away) and Williams (1 hour away).

If you are really concerned about food costs, than I would say stock up non-cooking items in Flagstaff (trail mix, a loaf of bread, lunchean meat, PB_J, jerkey, fruit) to keep in the fridge. Nobody goes to the Grand Canyon for the food - do what you need to do to get by and enjoy the sights.

That being said, if you do have a little extra money to splurge a night or two, than I would recommend the Arizona Room grill on the east end of Bright Angel Lodge (have to enter from the outside) - excellent food, great views of the rim, less expensive that El Tovar and better food that Bright Angel.

    Have fun!

  • Yavapi does not have microwaves. It is about a mile from the rim, but there i a free shuttle that will take you all over the park. I recommend taking it because parking at the rim is a nightmare any time of the year. As for food, water, ect. everything in the park is more expensive than if you bought it at home. Mostly because it_s so far from the rest of the world and most companies have to provide housing for their employees. So don_t be surprised if you go to McDonald_s (just outside the park) and have to pay a lot more than normal for you big mac. Also, if you are use to soft water, bring some bottled. The water out of the tap is very _hard_ meaning it contains a lot of minerals and has been known to upset some people_s stomachs.
As for eating inside the park, the El Tovar is the 4 star restaurant in the park and is pricey for dinner, however breakfast is less expensive and they really feed you (you could share a plate). For a good dinner I recommend the Arizona Steak House (they are also a little pricey, but the food is good and you get what you pay for). Also, the Yavapi and Maswik (Maz-wic) have cafeterias. Yavapi has really good fried chicken and Maswik has a little bit of everything. I hope this helps you out.
  • Me + 6 of my girlfriends are going to Las Vegas in August. What is the best hip hop club there or club to go?|178309

None of us have never been to Las Vegas before and I am planning the whole trip and wanted some good advice on some good nightclubs that play mostly hip hop but I can also deal with the other music as well. We will be there July 31st-August 2nd going to see Beyonce August 1st. Please help!! Thank you.

  • The hottest Hip hop spot is poetry at Caesars palace. Poetry is the only club in vegas to play strictly hip hop and r_b. it is becoming a major celeb hot spot and it is not uncommon to bump into snoop on the dance floor.

There are a ton of other great clubs though my personal favorite is Moon and Playboy at the palms. they have a retractible roof which has one of the most amazing views of the strip out there since it is located on the top of the tower. They also have by far the most sophisticated sound system and lighting.

I would suggest you use the party planner
    http://www.cheapvegasclubs.com/yourvegas
its free and that site will plan everything out for you as well as get you in for the cheapest. Passes are $10 and guestlist entry with no line and no cover is only $15 I use them every time and love it

  • I_m going the same weekend!!
Your going to have so much fun! I went for the first time in March, and again last weekend, and now going for my b-day (July 31st) for the weekend, i_m addicted...lol!
Anyways, we went to club Rain at The Palms on Friday cause DJ AM plays there, and it was off the chain...nice system, big dance floor...it was hot!! be prepared for the line though...get there early!
I also went to LAX on saturday and I loved it there also, good music!! that_s where i_m planning to go in July on saturday!!

    Hope that helps!

  • LAX at Luxor is my favorite. DJ AM plays there as well, and a lot of celebs are known to go to LAX. I also like the Christian Audigier club at Treasure Island and Pure at Caesar_s Palace. I_ve never been to Rain at the Palms but I_d imagine that_s a good one for the atmosphere you_re looking for.

  • The best hip hop club in Vegas is Poetry at Caesars Palace. Here is more information and a video clip.

  • What is the quickest route from Texas to Wyoming?|103160

We are moving from Corpus Christi,Texas to Rock Springs, Wyoming. We will be traveling with 2 sons and a puppy. Therefore, I need the shortest route with lots of rest stops.

  • You are already on Yahoo so go to maps and ask for a map from CC to Rock Springs.
There isn_t a quick route with lots of rest stops. You will have about 650 miles just to get out of Texas.
Go through San Antonio to up to Aveline, then to Childress. Hit 287 and go to Amarillo. Plan on spending the night there because once you leave Amarillo there isn_t a decent place to stay until you get to Raton, N.M. From Amarillo go to Dumas then to dalhart and Clayton N. M. . At Clayton you will cut north again to Raton, Trinidad, up to Denver. From Denver to Casper Wy. then west to Rock Springs. From Denver to Casper not many stops and from Casper to RS nothing. Trip with the kids, stopping to eat etc. will take 30 + Hrs. about 1500 miles.
Drive careful, be sure to stop when feeling tired. Hwy from San Antonio to Raton is almost all 2 lane so be careful.

  • I grew up in Rock Springs! That_s weird... and why would you want to move there?? lol I think there are about 15,000 people in the whole town.

I-80 goes right through Rock Springs, and you will have to take 25 to get to 80 from TX. There are a lot of long stretches between cities on 80, so there are lots of rest stops along the way.

  • a straight line.

  • Route #41.
  • What are some must haves if renting a cabin in the mountains for 5 days?|105731

It is near civilization and has all the great amenities.

  • Binoculars, books, camera, firewood for ambiance, candles, blankets, and someone to cuddle with on cool evenings.

  • Well for me I would want some kind of snacks, candles, and blankets oh and some warm clothes. If its a cabin that doesnt have water you would deff need water. Also something to keep u busy to relax like a deck of cards or a board game or maybe even something to read. The whole point of going to stay in a cabin (in my opinion) is getting away from everything. So take the things u need and try to stay away from the civilization.....its more peaceful that way!
