  • What is the best and inexpensive place for spring break within a few miles from louisiana?|193805

never been before and am planning a trip?

  • Mississippi Gulf Coast ? was it ever rebuilt ? I think the casinos are working

  • thats a crap answer.

  • GULF SHORES !

    check out this one example:

  • Low-limit poker in Lake Charles.

  • I don_t know what you mean by a _few miles_... If you don_t want to stay in Louisiana (At least when I was a student at LSU, there were a lot of us that went to New Orleans), you could go to one of the following: Gulf Shores (MS), Pensacola (FL), and Houston or Galveston (TX). You should go Spring Break in Miami (downtown for Ultra Music Festival or south beach) or Ft. Lauderdale - it_s going to be sooooooooooooo awesome this year.
  • Are the interstates in and around Los Angeles really that bad to drive?|105195

We are planning a family roadtrip from Santa Fe new mexico to Los Angeles...we will be flying to santa fe(we live in Pittsburgh, PA) my dad is scared about the interstates in LA saying they are too dangerous and everyone drives too fast and we woun_t be able to handle driving on them. Specifically we would need to be on the 405 and interstate 5 and interstate 10. Are these roads bad for a non-californian? Once again we live in pittsburgh PA so we are not completely sheltered from city traffic and interstates

  • If you can drive on the 376 and the like in PIttsburgh, the freeways in LA will not scare you. You are perfectly OK here to drive the speed limit as long as you stay in the right two lanes. WHen my daughter first learned to drive here in Orange County she was scared to go out onto the 405 but once she was on it, she says it was easier to drive on than the surface streets.

The accident and injury rate is lower onthe LA freeways than on the surface streets.

I have lived here for 9 years and when I went to Pittsburgh to my daughter_s graduation from Chatham I got truely terrified in the Swissvale tunnels and on the 376, far more than anything LA could ever havd out.

  • I_m originally from Dallas and I don_t think the freeways in Los Angeles are any different than driving there. I never had any problems merging, even with Texas plates on my car. Just drive at least the speed limit (not under) and we won_t give you any obscene finger gestures. If you see something interesting park your car and walk and not by driving 15 MPH under the speed limit to gawk.

Most of the time the freeways are too congested to go very fast.

Google Maps, Yahoo Maps, even GPS don_t give very good directions for getting around the city. That_s speaking from newbie experience. Buy a real paper map of the area in advance. AAA or most gas stations sell maps.

The freeways and many of the streets are in bad condition so if you think the wheels are about to fall off your car it_s just rough pavement.

  • Most of us find the freeways too slow, bogged down by traffic most of the time! Sometimes the 405 is soooo slow I want to get out and walk, and I_m talking about the weekend. During weekday rush hours, there is no rushing.

The trick is planning ahead so you know where you_re going and what the signs will say. You can_t figure it out while driving on the freeway unless you already have a good knowledge of the area. When traffic is moving fast, if he stays in the slower lanes to the right, he should be fine.

If your dad can be patient and not freak out if he misses an offramp, he won_t have a problem. Just get off the next offramp and check your map. It_s not a big deal, happens to everyone at some time.

    Have a fun adventure!

  • people who say this are absurd, i_ve lived here for years and only approached the speed limit on a couple of golden days i can remember like they were my birthday. if you want to practice you can just sit in your car in a parking lot. i_ve been to every other major city and they_re nothing like DC or Miami or something where everyone is a maniac. they call it the 405 cuz you will go 4 o_ 5 miles an hour. why you guys are planning to drive all around so much when you come on vacation is another question, you will get to spend about an hour outside the car if you go all around like that.

  • Non a non-Californian. A non-Angelino.

Take it from someone who makes visits to Long Beach, I find LA freeways scary! I am not used to 5 lanes and extremely fast speed limits, so I am always on the 4th or 5th lane to get to an exit or to another freeway safely.

You_ll be fine though. I haven_t been in an accident in Los Angeles, yet. I figure I might as well get used to it if I go to school in CSU Long Beach or any school in LA anytime soon.

  • They aren_t bad if you are not a person that gandys You need to know where you are going and go with the flow of traffic.
If the traffic is running 80 mph and the speed limit is 65 and you go 65 you will be given a ticket for impeding the flow of traffic.
In other words if you don_t want to run with the big dogs stay on the porch.

  • First the bad news-----Traffic on the 405 between the 10 and 101 starting this month will be at a near stand still for the next 3 years as they add another lane and redo the bridges. They will be closing off 1 north bound lane in a few days.
The Good News- You won_t have to worry about fast LA drivers......Just Road Rage.....LOL

  • The roads are fine. It_s the drivers that will kill you.

  • LOL! Oh man. The 405? Do you KNOW why the call it the 405? Because you go 4 o_ 5 miles per hour, THAT_S why.

If you_re from Pittsburgh, you should be fine. Frankly, you can_t get over 55 on any of those freeways anytime during the day. The traffic around LA is terrible. Yeah, there are a couple of agressive drivers out there, but nothing like back east. People who have come here from back east tell me that LA drivers are too slow. So go figure.

I-10 is pretty fast from Blythe to San Bernardino, but slows down as you get closer to LA. Just stay in the right lane, and you_ll be fine.

The best part about the interstates here is that you don_t have to deal with snow, and rarely rain. If it does rain, Angelenos over-compensate, and drive REAL slow.

    Have fun!
  • How long would it take to ship a small package from Brooklyn, NY to Manhattan?|177947

I am using normal ground shipping I was just wondering if it makes a difference if the package was sent from a nearby area. Does this mean that I_ll get the package sooner then usual. I live in Manhattan and Brooklyn is at most a half hour away from where I live. Does this mean I_ll get it sooner the 3-4 days or just 3-4 days like normal. Thanks for your help.

  • 90% odds you will get it next day.0.1% odds you will never see it.
  • How far is SW Houston to Tomball or Mongolia?|175857

I am planning on meeting someone in Tomball or Mongolia to buy a Macbook, but I am not sure that my parents will drive me, depending on how far it is from Harris County/SW houston to Tomball or Mongolia.
So does anyone know in minutes, how long it would take me to get from SW Houston to Tomball and Mongolia.
    Thanks.

  • Just don_t do it during rush hour, and you_ll be fine. Should take under an hour to Tomball, and a little over an hour to Magnolia.

  • About an hour in medium/low traffic today.
    Try yahoo maps.
  • What is the location of the best vacation you have ever been on, and why?|156749

I am trying to plan a vacation and would like some suggestions. I am open to anything.

  • Jamaica =)

  • In Flordia Island of Adventures. Also just staying home and grilling out ,swimming ,biking, going to Kings Island, horse back riding, shopping.Sometimes going away can be a big hassle with the gas and all the packing and unpacking and eating out for a week, the traffic, the crowds.

  • Cozumel. It is a small little island in Mexico on the Caribbean side. I have been there 3 times and love it. There is a lot to do. Snorkeling, scuba diving, sight seeing, go see the ruins etc. There are a lot of resorts that are all-inclusive and it makes it very reasonable priced.
www.occidentalhotels.com I have stayed at both the Allegro Cozumel, and Occidental Grand. The Allegro Cozumel is cheaper and to me a much better place. Each building only has 4 hotel rooms. They look like little huts. \
Lots of food, fun, and all the alcohol (for free) you can drink.

  • Santorini, greece. Lovely island to visit.

  • What are the BEST places to visit in USA?|170231

If someone where to take a trip around America, what places would you suggest they visit and why?

  • I agree with someone above. The Smokies in Tenn. are great. I think Nashville is also worth a visit. I have enjoyed the Grand Canyon as well as the parks in Utah. Vegas is great for more than gambling. The Black Hills in South Dakota are great and you can catch Yellowstone if you are up that way. Love Seattle. San Fransisco is a jewel. Portland is another great place. Lake Tahoe on the Cal/Nev border is one of my favorite places. LA/Orange County/San Diego are great. You can even cross over to Mexico for the day...Day not night. New Orleans. I am rambling now. Have a great trip. There are so many neat places in the US.

  • There are so many! It depends on what your interest are. Personal favorites are Tennessee and the Great Smoky Mtns. I love the waterfalls and the mountain drives up the windy, curvy roads. Kentucky is beautiful and Mammoth Cave is something to see. I love the south eastern part of the USA. The ocean is nice at St. Augustine Florida or Myrtle Beach and anywhere in between. If you were going out west I would pick The Grand Canyon or the beaches of California. Las Vegas would be fun. There is so much to see and do. I have lived here all my life and not seen near enough.

  • It depends on where you are from, what you have already seen, what you enjoy doing, the time of year, your budget and the exchange rate. It_s such a large country, so the options seem endless without any guidance from you.

If you are interested in learning about an important factor that makes the US great, I think a trip to New York City is good. Take tours that emphasize immigration and ethnic neighborhoods. Much of the city_s vitality can be attributed to immigration and the financial markets.

The National Parks system has some amazing parks to see
    http://www.nps.gov/.
You will probably enjoy a trip to Yellowstone Park
    http://www.nps.gov/yell/
and the Tetons. While you are there, stay at a dude ranch
    http://www.wyomingdra.com/.
Jackson Hole is a colorful town.

I guess if someone were to take a trip around the US with time and money, and that person wanted to get a feeling for the country, I suggest New York City to start, to understand immigration and opportunity. Next stop would be the rich farm land of the mid-west, perhaps including a visit to the Iowa state fair
    http://www.wyomingdra.com/.
After that, a visit to Yellowstone with the dude ranch visit, as noted above. Time permitting, a visit to the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas would be interesting. On the west coast, I suggest a visit to Los Angeles, with a tour emphasis on the entertainment business.

These locations give a great overview on what makes this country what it is. Each location is distinct, but uniquely American. Of course, there are many other possibilities.

  • I suggest Raleigh, NC

There is plenty of stuff to do depending on what you like. If you are looking for Museum_s there is Contemporary Art Museum, Legends of Harley Drag Racing Museum which is Awesome, North Carolina Museum of Art and more if you like nightlife then there is, Bud Light Downtown Live, DIVEbar Raleigh and more. Here is a Web-site you would benefit from
    http://www.visitraleigh.com
you can find out what events are going to be going on in what month there are concerts and such!
