How can I get the replaced posters from subway stations and bus stops in New York city?|193318

I really like those movie and tv shows posters. Some of them are quit new when replaced. Does anyone know where can I get them with a cheap price? Thanks a lot!!

  • the ones in the subway are posted over. the ones in bus stops are most likely thrown out.
  • Is it possible to live in Florida off the salary a Disney cast member makes?|168096

If I were to work full-time hours in, say, Attractions, the salary is a little over $7 an hour. Would this be enough to live in an apartment or small house with several roommates and still afford gas, car insurance, utilities, phone service, and groceries? I_ve never lived entirely on my own before so I need to know . . .

  • When I moved here in 2002, I made it on $6.50/hour, working in Tomorrowland Attractions. I had one roommate at the time. There are apartment complexes close enough to Disney that are income-restricted (low income) and fairly reasonable. When you work for Disney full-time, you can get you car insurance through one of three companies that Disney partners with and they_ll take the payments out of your paycheck so you won_t even miss it.

Also, even if you start in Attractions (where they_ll tell you you can_t transfer to another area for a year) you can be _promoted_ after 90 days to another department with a higher pay scale--e.g. Transportation, Guest Relations, Security.

It_s manageable, but tough at the start.

  • Inland areas of Florida are actually not that bad for rent as far as some other parts of the country.

I would opt for an apartment (with a roommate) instead of a house. With a house you have a garbage pick-up fee, sewer, water bill, etc. Those are usually eliminated in an apartment. Some apartments even include the electricty in the rent. Plus, if something breaks down, an apartment management service will usually get on it more quickly than a private landlord.

It won_t be extremely easy - but you will make it.
Everyone is different, but I always found that more than one roommate was just too much to deal with. Good luck.

  • That would be a lot of roommates....too many for comfort.

Why not try for a much better job? You could try a temporary agency which often gets jobs at $15+ hour and snag a permanent job after that. In LA, $7/hr is not even minimum wage.

  • yes, but it would be tight, i get 7.50, work 40hrs. and my apartment in tampa is 900/mth with utilites, i have one roomate. If you have several i_m sure you would do just fine :)

  • It would be very hard to live here but it can be done. The money would very very very tight.
  • How do I go about moving from England to New York City?|183580

I_ve been considering moving to Manhattan from a town in England near London, and I have no idea how to look for help on organizing how it needs to be done, in terms of all the legal requirements, immigration laws, an apartment, job etc.

I_ve just finished a BA degree in Graphic Design, and New York is obviously a very affluent city with an enormous design society. So I_m also wondering how I would apply for jobs in a city so far away.

If anyone could help guide me in the right direction that would be great!

  • US companies have to prove that they cannot hire a US worker over a foreign worker. It costs them money to bring you in.

Normally it is worth sifting through such red tape if the foreign worker can demonstrate that they have an exceptional skill-set to offer the company.

Unfortunately, a BA in Graphic Design will not be enough.

However, New York is not completely closed to you. I suggest you apply to work for an agency that has offices in both London _ New York. Apply for a London position, prove your worth and then later on apply internally to be transferred to the New York office.

  • Well I dont know about the immigration laws but as for a job I would suggest you check out craigslist and other job sites such as yahoo jobs or something else there are a lot of jobs for graphic design tell them your situation and certain places can try to get you settled in an apartment or something, doesnt happen all the time but you could be really good at graphic design where they may want you. As for an apartment I would check craigslist thats where I found my apartment but just be careful there are some scams, sometimes it helps if you know someone in nyc to go check out the place for you and see if its legit. Hope this helps

  • You won_t be able to move to NYC with a BA in Graphic Design. The only realistic way for a Brit to get a working visa (H1-B) for the US would be to have a skill set that is in need and have an employer sponsor you. No employer is going to sponsor a BA in Graphic Design. Think more like PhD in Chemical Engineering.

  • You will need a work visa from the company.. I think it_s best to apply to company that will support and give you a work visa.

Maybe apply online or take a travel trip here first and apply for interviews.
