Better City to visit during the summer and why?|182993

I_m planning on visiting either Boston, Washington D.C. or Los Angeles during the summer. If you could choose which city to visit and why what city would you choose within the three choices. If you can list pros and cons to visiting the cities.

  • Nice places to visit in summer (sorry, but your list is limiting you. Visit LA in spring or fall, it is way too hot in the summer.):

    1. Vancouver, BC, Canada. GREAT city. Lots of everything, and in 2010 that will include the Olympics. Mountains on one side and ocean coast on the other. A short ferry away is scenic and huge Vancouver Island. Lots of trees and incredibly pretty for a large metropolis. Best places to go: Commercial Drive, Gastown, Yaletown, Vancouver Island, lots and lots more. Just avoid the Downtown Eastside, it is where all the drugs are.
    2. Chicago, IL, USA. I love Chicago. A tad expensive, but lots of great things to do. Hundreds of concerts and stuff, theatres, and Navy Pier is amazing at night and usually has shows.
    3. I guess Boston. Or DC. Or Baltimore. Or all of them at once in a gigantic amazing New England Trip. There_s an idea.

  • Boston is nice in the summer time, in fact the rest of the year is too cold

DC is also very nice in the summer,
lots to do in both cities

    never been to LA

Since I live in the Boston Area, I would chosse DC, only because I have been to Boston so many times. But you really can_t go wrong with either

DC and Boston both have lots of museums, historical sites, shopping, restaurants, and nearby beaches.

  • Boston is the prettiest of those cities, and has more historic sights than the others.

The main attraction in Washington is its museums.

If you want a visit that focuses on a modern city rather than on museums or history, I would go to Los Angeles, which has many interesting neighborhoods, great restaurants, music and art scenes, fashion, design, and tremendous cultural diversity. But don_t go to Los Angeles for a standard tourist vacation - there are few real _sights_ and places like Hollywood and Beverly Hills are boring tourist traps.

  • I would go to DC there are so many museums to see that it could take days and they are all free
  • What is the most inexpensive place to live in the Seattle area and surrounding cities.?|113739

I will take links or email addresses. I just need to know what THE CHEAPEST place that is less than an hour away from the University of Washington is.

  • I assume you mean renting? What_s your budget? _Within an hour_ gives you a pretty big area. You could go North to Everett and get a much bigger place for a lot less than in the Seattle neighbourhoods - only about $400 for a one bedroom or studio. Or you could go South to Renton or Tukwila, or East to Issaquah. Those are all 15 mins to 30 mins out of Seattle - more during rush hour.
    http://www.rent.com
is a good place to look for units though if you_re looking for just a studio or renting a room in a house you_ll find those at
    http://www.seattletimes.com
    or
    http://www.craigslist.com

If it_s just you a good option would be to find one of those houses in Wallingford, Fremont, Ballard or Queen Anne that they_ve converted to apartments. You_d get to be really close to school plus live in a cool neighbourhood and possibly be within walking distance to a lot of things. And they_re actually quite affordable. A friend of mine had a great studio in an old house in Queen Anne and only paid $700 per month. Another had a one bedroom apartment and paid $750.

If you have some specifics about what_s most important to you I can give you some more info. I moved here five years ago so really learned about the different areas and then a year after also helped a friend from FL find a place when he moved up.

  • west seattle is cheap, its a hole, but its cheap.
the internation district is as well.

surrounding ares north of the city 30 miles or so are as well, marysville comes to mind

  • South Seattle like on MLK blvd or near E. Marginal Way. The cheapest is a little farther south like Seatac and Southpark, but not as good of an area.
  • What is the difference between washington DC and washington ?|195993

there is one near virginia and the other one is on top of oregon. why is there 2 washingtons ?

  • washington dc is named after george washington our first president ON RECORD and idk about the other washington hmm it_s interesting

    can you answer mine?

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?

  • Why is there a New York city and a New York State?

Why is there an Augusta Maine and and Augusta Georgia?

Why are there two Dakotas? Why do we need a New England when we have an Old England?

Washington is a city in a federal district called the District of Columbia.

Washington is a State that borders British Columbia.

    That_s it.

    Word.

  • Washington State is a state.

Washington D.C. is not a state, it_s the district of columbia. Probably named Washington D.C. because Washington was our first president and D.C. is the home of the president.

  • Washington is a state
and Washington DC is actually a district DC stands for District of Columbia. So its is different and they are in different locations.

  • Washington is the state and Washington DC is the capital of the US

  • why not? it was not originally called washington dc. they changed it. washington is a state and dc is the district of columbia which is its own area.

  • Washington DC is the Capital of the U.S.

Washington is a State or the Person George Washington

  • Washington State is on the west coast, and Washington D.C. is on the east coast.

  • george washington is famous like that
  • Is it a must in USA to have 2bdr appartments if we have a baby?|195595

    Dear Sirs ;),

If there is any law in US MA and nearby states to have not less then 2bdrm apartment for a family of 3 including a new born baby? We also have a small dog.

1-bdrm apartments would perfectly suit us as we plan to be close to our baby even at night for the first 1-2 years.

    Thanks!

  • It_s up to the landlord.......a one bedroom would usually be rented to one person. They cannot discriminate against children, but they can tell you they don_t allow dogs, or they already have it rented. Do yourself a favor and get a two bedroom...it_s much better for you and the child. Plus, where are you going to put all the toys that you will surely accumulate?

  • There is absolutely no law regarding legal occupancy of an apartment. I would be very careful with the dog and the baby though. The dog may become jealous and you might want to keep an eye out while the baby is quite young.

1 bedroom sounds much too small for all four of you. Don_t lock yourself into a situation that may be impossible. There will be times when one of you may want a nap, or someone may be sick, or the dog needs a time out or something.

  • Yes you can_t legally share a room with your child! All that_s going to do is make your child suffer in a year or two when you decide it finally needs it_s own room! Then you_ll be having to let the kid cry it out because it wants back in your room! Do youselves and the kid a favor and don_t do this, you_ll all regret it!

  • No, there_s no law.

However, a landlord does not have to rent to you if:

    1) No dogs are allowed
    2) There is lead paint.

Also, 1 BR is fine when you have an infant, but I think once the child is 1 year or older it has to have its own room. Creeeeeeeeeeepy (mommy and daddy doing it will leave permanent scars).

  • actually, you CAN legally share a one bedroom with a child... A studio is one adult, one child or two adults. With a one bedroom, you could definitely live there with your baby. There is no law against that.

  • Nope, no law stating that. And I live in MA.
  • Things to do during the holiday season in Chicago?|179068

I_m going to Chicago next weekend and I was wondering what are some things that are must-sees during the holiday season? Where are the best places to go?

  • winter wonder fest at navy pier!!!!!!!

  • Some great Chicago attractions:

#1 -The The Museum of Science and Industry is a truly wonderful museum. You can go into a real coal mine, look at a real NASA space pod (Apollo 11? or 12), at planes, models of Downtown Chicago, submarines, trains... this is the best museum in Chicago. And be SURE to go to see one of their IMAX movies. The movie is projected on a dome, and it makes for the most SPECTACULAR film viewing on the planet, I swear on it!

#2 - The John Hancock Observatory lets you look down about a 100 stories at Downtown Chicago. It_s AMAZING. The Sears Tower lets you do the same thing, but I personally suggest the John Hancock Building. (Don_t do this on a day when it_s foggy--you_ll see nothing.)

#3 - Field Museum of Natural History. This is a pretty neat place. You can see the T-Rex dinosaur skeletons Sue here. There are easily a million artifacts here. Be warned that many exhibits here take a LONG time to look/go through.

#4 - There is the Chicago Line Cruises that let_s you tour Chicago_s architecture from a boat. It_s interesting and sometimes humorous. But it_s a bit expensive, and eats up about 2 hours. But it IS nice.

#5 - Broadway, of coarse, is here. _Wicked_ is playing, so is _Jersey Boys,_ and other amazing shows. The setback, though, is trying to get a seat.

(This isn_t Broadway, but it_s just as good, if not better: the Blue Men Group! They are the BEST permanent show in Chicago. But once again, it_s hell trying to get tickets.)

#6 - The Adler Planetarium is worth mentioning. If you like astronomy or stars at all, you_ll love this place.

    Food:
#1 - Pizzeria Uno, but you need to eat at the ORIGINAL one, located at 29 E Ohio Street. This is the original _Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza_ as they say. Their oven is like, 50 years old, so the crust on the deep dish pizza is to die for, and the pizza is delicious.

(but WARNING: this is most popular place in all of Chicago for pizza. No reservations allowed. Usually takes 30 minutes for just one person to get a seat, much less a group. So yeah, the pizza is amazing, but it_s not worth waiting an hour for. But try your luck.)

Now, if you_re looking for Christmas-oriented fun, here_s some ideas:

    - On November 22 is the annual Magnificent Mile Parade followed by some wicked fireworks.
    - Macy_s goes all all out on Christmas, noting their annual giant tree, strung with literally thousands of lights and ornaments.
    - Millennium Park has ice-skating
    - The Museum of Science and Industry has a tree-ornament display.
    - Navy Pier puts on some festive shows.
    - The Chicago Botanic Garden has some really magical Christmas displays.

Whatever you decide to do, have fun!
