What are some of the best areas/apartments in Austin for young hipsters to live?|171843

I_m considering moving to Austin, TX next shool year and attending Austin Community College to get my associates. I_ve heard a lot of great things about Austin being a liberal, music-loving town, and plan on visiting in March to get a feel for it. I_m just wondering if there are specific neighborhoods that are best for meeting like-minded young hipsters like myself (here in St. Louis, the hipster nieghborhoods are few and far between.) Thanks.

  • you want to be near congress just south of the river and around campus. poor hipsters are scattered around Guadeloupe going just north of campus and slightly richer ones near the 1st and the congress st. area just south of the river.

these areas are by no means inexpensive.

they are marked by shops with murals, vegetarian food, vintage clothing stores, art shops, coffee shops, etc. etc. etc.

Some of the homes are hopelessly outdated and suffering from neglect, but somehow speak out with odd colors and varieties of potted plants. You get the picture.

Picture walking down the street and seeing that someone has taken the time to tile a small crack in the sidewalk with odd colored tiles and you go two more steps and someone has painted vegetables as a form of graffiti, then a few more steps and you find a yellow bike that is known in the area as community property.

getting more of the picture. can you smell the patchouli?

  • There are some new apartments off of Guadalupe and Lamar that are pretty neat. They have shopping below and are relatively close to campus (UT that is), which means you_ll be close to bus routes and to downtown. Many things to do in that area and within walking distance as well.

  • South Austin is the hippest-- especially Travis Heights. But it_s getting expensive. Some move even further south, but then you may be a hipster, but not environmentally-friendly, because you_d be driving a lot. Hyde Park is also hip, but more expensive. Some are moving into parts of East Austin, which is traditionally a poorer area, but pockets are changing.

  • You can live in some nice apartments off the warehouse district, on 5th or so. These are really nice, but on the other hand a 1/1 is around $1400 a month. If thats you thats cool, a better deal though is east of I-35. People will tell you it_s _ghetto_ but the fact is it is a multi-cultured area with a nice delveloping art scene. Also most of the people in Austin have not seen a real ghetto. This is where I live and I have a 3/2 with all appliances and a yard for $950. Also there is a ACC campus like 10 mins walking over hear and for the Rio Grande campus its only 2 miles. This is what I would recommend, but you should look for yourself. The only place I dont recommend is West Campus. Also Hyde Park is becoming a bit yuppie too, not in a good way if there is a good way.
  • How much are the Jonas Brothers tickets going to be for the Staples Center in Los Angeles concert on August 7?|142119

Please no rude comments if you don_t the jonas brothers then don_t be looking at this question.
I really need and answers fast!

  • 25 -82 dollars depends if you want good or bad seats

  • IDK, but I think the prices depend on the city they go to, caus eppl say they_re like from 50 ,bad seats, to 100 on good seats but don_t count on it cause I_ve seen them go up to $950 where they sold their tickets, If ur on team Jonas get to them as fast as you can :D

  • Try looking it up on ticketmaster.com. It_s always a good resource for finding concert dates, locations and prices. Or, go to the Staples Center website.
  • What can visiting college students do for fun in Kansas City?|125780

I_m visiting Kansas City from Oct. 28-31 with a group of 7 students from Florida for a college newspaper conference. We_ve never been there and would like to go out while we_re there. Are bars and clubs all 21-and-up in KC? Only about half of us are over 21.

  • Kansas City has a number of great haunted houses in the fall that are worth looking into. You_ll notice several people have already mentioned Worlds of Fun, an area theme park. There_s also the numerous shopping areas such as the Country Club Plaza in KCMO and Legends in KCK near the race track.

You might want to keep tabs on some of the community calendars as your trip nears - both the KC Star (main stream newspaper) and the Pitch (alternative free press paper) have them on their websites - see sources below.

Yes, most of the bars are 21 and over, though some do all-ages shows (or at least 18 and up) from time to time.

  • Worlds of fun has halloweekends going on at that time or the Legends shopping center is fun too. Also the plaza can be fun, but I like the legends there is a club, actually I think it is 3 in one, they have a bowling alley an adult arcade and a ton of shopping. They keep building on to it but its alot of fun. Also you can go to the haunted houses, but they aren_t as fun when it is that close to Halloween but if you have never been then it would be fun, there are just alot of people there

  • The haunted houses under the 12th street bridge is the thing to do in the fall in kansas city. They are in old run down warehouses. They are all really neat but I would recommend The Beast. It takes a couple of hours to get all the way through it. Worlds of Fun also has haunted houses around halloween so you could get two in one. Go to the haunted houses then get on a roller coaster. All the good bars you have to be 21 to get in trust me I_m only 20 and all my friends are already 21. And of course you have to have some bbq when you come to kansas city. Aurther Bryants and Fiorella_s Jack Stack Barbecue are my two favorites.

  • I would go to tthe Power and Light district downtown. You can listen to good music, have a great dinner, etc. Or you could see whats going on at the Sprint Center during that time. (KC bars are all 21+) but if you wanna drive to Lawerence KS, its about 20-30 minute drive, their bars are all 18+.
The plaza is always a fun time! Tons to do there! Worlds of Fun is ok too. Comedy clubs like Sanford and Sons...
Oooh! and the haunted houses are amazing here! Under the 12th STreet bridge downtown. They are huge and really scary and fun. They are old abandoned buildings that are renovated into haunted houses. Creep you out too!

  • Forget about bars, go to Worlds of Fun! It_s right off of I-435 just 7 miles northeast of Kansas City, Missouri/Kansas. It has some great roller coasters and is really fun.

  • Worlds of F*in Fun!
  • Where in the east coast can i find the best place to start raise a family?|126261

Preferrably a place that_s not so crowded but not so isolated and have the lowest cost of living.

  • Portland, Maine
    Manchester, New Hampshire
    Richmond, VA

  • New England. VT or NH are 2 of the best kept secrets.

  • Colubmbia or Greenville, SC. Decent places, low cost of living. Nice areas, too. I_m looking at moving there myself in the next few years.
