Where is the best place for 18 year olds to vacation in Michigan?|135461

My boyfriend want to go somewhere over Christmas break where we can just have fun, maybe hit some clubs, and get a hotel..nothing too expensive, we are both 18..wheres the best place to go?

  • Detroit area, believe it or not. DInners and clubs in the North burbs, along Woodward av. DOwntown Detroit by the RenCenter is kinda cool with some venues, music, and clubs that aren;t bad.

I would suggest taking a train to CHicago and hanging out in the near North area...you can walk along Rush street and Lincoln park area and never have too few clubs.

  • Detroit - Head around the Greektown for lots of bars and dance clubs. Try ENvy dance club on Larned. Oh, one more...u can cross the river to Windosr and drink legally there.

  • honestly, if you stay in the right places, Detroit would be a good bet. Greektown has a ton of bars ,restaurants, clubs and a casino.

or maybe you could try grand rapids, too.

  • If Goth.. you can go to The Leland City Club in the Ramada Inn- side /backdoor on the Left side of the place

    http://www.lelandcityclub.com/about.php

great place to _people watch_, dance and its open to 4a

  • Actually, I think you might like to stay in Windsor, across the river from Detroit, instead of in Michigan. The drinking age over there is 18, so you can go anywhere you want, and they have a LOT of clubs, (as a lot of 18 to 21 year olds go over there to party at the bars). Just stay over there, it_s a lot safer, and it_s an open border. You don_t need a passport.....yet. Just your American driver_s license and be a US citizen. They won_t hassle you, unless you_re a foreigner, and even then, not much. And Windsor has a great view of the Detroit skyline along the Canadian side of the riverfront.
It_s also a lot safer over in Windsor than in Detroit. There_s just not that much to do in Detroit. Stay in Windsor, and if you want, then you can visit Detroit for an evening if you want. You can find some pretty good prices for motels in Windsor, just remember, the Canadian exchange rate is going to make it appear MORE expensive than it really is. And save your hotel receipts and stop at the Customs office when you return. They_ll refund your hotel room taxes if you have the receipt.

Why you want to come to detroit in the winter is beyond me....it_s pretty cold here usually. Be aware of that.

If you INSIST on staying in the US, then stay in the NORTHERN suburbs around Detroit. Like Birmingham, West Bloomfield, and yes, Waterford is a good place, and quite a bit cheaper than the first two, and has some nice bars and clubs. Just ask around. $72 per night in Waterford. That_s about as cheap as you_re going to get for a decent hotel. Much higher in Birmingham. Try the Best Western Concorde Inn in Waterford, and the Shark_s Club across the street--pretty nice nightclub, esp on weekends.

But I still say your best bet is Windsor; because you_re only 18. In Detroit, the bars, clubs, casino_s, NONE of the places are going to let you in, because you are underage. But in Windsor, all you have to be is 18 (not 21 like in Detroit). Consider it. And it_s a lot SAFER over there. There_s just not much to do in Detroit, unless you enjoy getting car jacked and dodging bullets....

  • Right across the river from Detroit is Windsor Ontario. Perfectly suited for young partiers. Drinking age is 19 but pretty easy to get in most kiddie bars. Huge casino and tons of great restuarants offering a very wide variety of international cuisine.
  • What are somethings teens could do over the summer?|135356

I live in NYC and usually my friends and i would take the subway 2 coney island, the mall, or the movies and were getting tired of doing the same thing. Any ideas ???

  • Go to Chelsea Piers
    New Roc CIty
    Circle Line
    Tour Downtown
    Radio City Music Hall
    42nd Street
    Bodies Exhibit in Southstreet Seaport
    Take a Walk
    Empire State Building Touring
    Shop in NYC Downtown
    Coney Island
    Rye Playland

  • Buy cheap waterguns and have a water fight in Central Park.

Go out to a random subway stop and walk around a new neighborhood. You might want to bring a guy with you in case the area isn_t so great.

Get a copy of Time Out and check for free events.

When you live in NYC, a lot of things get old pretty fast, don_t they?
  • How bad are the cops on I 75 south from Michigan to Florida on the weekend?|110421

I want to leave tomorrow morning ( Saturday) and I don_t have insurance. I_m really nervous and I heard they_re
really bad and that there_s a state trooper like every 5 minutes and heard they_ll pull you over for something as small as rust on your licens plate

  • no stay with in the laws and you will be ok don_t give them a reason to pull you over

  • What a bunch of crapola! They aren_t any worse than anywhere else. They do watch for drug trafficking since it_s one of the main drug pipelines in the US. As long as you don_t speed, your license plate is up to date and you aren_t driving drunk you have nothing to worry about. I have driven on I75 for many years and never been stopped.

  • Working as cops is clearly a main job
  • How long does it take to ship something from illinois to florida?|124282

A package. i used the regular shipping and it got picked up in illinois at 6:01 p.m.
do they fly it to Florida?

  • By regular, you mean the US Postal Service? If so, somewhere between 3 and 10 days.
Sometimes they fly stuff, sometimes it_s trucked. Depends.
You should have asked when you mailed it and they would_ve told you an expected average time for delivery.

What is the best place on Oahu to buy a home?|197820

We would like to buy a house on Oahu...and ultimately live here full-time. We like Oahu because there is a little more going on in terms of restaurants, shopping, etc. - so please no answers saying _you should really look at this other island instead_!! We_d like to live bicycling-distance from the ocean. We_re interested in single-family homes not condos, and our taste runs more to Bohemian Beach Shack. No kids, so we don_t care about school districts. What neighborhoods would you recommend that we look at?

  • I don_t know about bohemian beach shacks - I haven_t seen too many beach shacks, bohemian or otherwise. But if you are looking to buy a single family home near the beach, you_d best be loaded. I_m thinking possibly windward Oahu north of Kaneohe might work for you, that would be places like Waiahole, Waikane, or Kaaawa. I think that is one of the less pricey areas. The leeward coast will also be less, but it isn_t a good place for someone fresh off the plane to acclimate to life in Hawaii. The north shore is nice, but expensive near the water.

  • Not really many bohemian shacks left, as most have been torn down for redevelopment. I guess you want the North Shore, which runs from Waialua to around Laie (where the Mormon temple is). You could look all the way down to Kaneohe, which gets more into the _city_ part of the island. Plan on at least $300,000 for a tiny fixer-upper and those would be very rare.

  • I agree with Joseph on choosing Kailua

Waimanolo had a laid back feel when I was there and yeah, if you_re a millionair go for Hawaii Kai

  • Are you a millionaire? Kailua

More affordable housing, crime-free, don_t mind concrete and home to home? Hawaii kai
  • What can you do to pass the time on an airplane without getting motion sickness?|195038

In May, I_m going to Disney World for a class trip. This will be my first time going on an airplane. I never get carsick and I never get sick when going on roller coasters. I heard you can still get airsick though. I know if you just look out the window, everything will be fine but I don_t know if I can just sit there looking out a window for 21\2 hours. I just turned 12 years old. What can I do to pass the time on an airplane without getting motion sickness.

  • Request a seat on the wing usually isles 13,14, and 15 if you can get a window that will even be better. Since the wing is in the middle it is the first to level off. Unfortunately if you hits turbulence there is not much you can do. Turbulence is air pockets and nothing to fear, they will ask you to remain seated and put on your seat belts, but it is just for your safety. You can also take some word search books or magazines to read while on the plane. But since you are going on a class trip you will be so busy talking to your friends that you will be on and off the plane before you know it. You are allowed to bring Ipod, game systems and other items like that so you can concentrate on them. Check with the school though to make sure you are allowed those items, but remember the hotel does not take responsibility for stolen items, so if you take these items find a real good hiding spot in your room so it will be there when you get back. Luggage is the first place people look as well as drawers with clothes.

  • I do get sick in a car after being in one for more than an hour. And if I_m dehydrated, roller coasters aren_t my best friends, either.
And being in a some-what small boat? Forget it! However, I have *never* felt sick from riding on an airplane, and I_ve flown from Chicago to London.
If you are very, very worried, there is an over-the-counter medication for motion sickness called Dramamine. If you buy the big tablets(about the size of an Advil), even though it says you can take two, I would recommend taking half of one. Be careful because this stuff makes you incredibly drowsy. That_s why I only recommend one small tablet or half of a big one. Take it while you_re waiting at the terminal. Of course, check with your parents to see what they think before you buy it and try it.

Good luck, and have a great time!
  • What can you tell me about the fair state of North Carolina?|119491

    May relocate.
How hot are the summers? How cold are the winters? Average cost of a home? I love Fall. Is it a long season there? Closest big city to the beach? General info is appreciated and needed.

  • Summers in NC are pretty hot and seem to last forever. Temperatures will start to increase around April (60s-70s, sometimes if it_s hot year then 80). The main summer months of May, June, July, August, and September are typically in the 80_s and 90_s, which can feel a lot worse if the humidity is high. October is usually a pretty temperate month in the 60s-70s and temperatures will gradually start to cool off as winter creeps in. If you are living towards the mountains though, temperatures are usually a bit cooler.

NC winters are generally pretty mild, especially if you do not live in the mountain areas. Highs are usually in the 40s and 50s. There isn_t usually much snow and actually ice is a bit more common. Unfortunately the state is not well equipped to handling inclement weather, so if you are used to roads being plowed and salted regularly, don_t expect it there. If snow or ice is anticipated, don_t expect to find bread or milk at the grocery stores.

Charlotte and Raleigh, NC_s two cities that I would call _big_ (well big for NC), are about the same distance to the coast. Both are nice cities.

Whats the difference between the 4th of July firework show in Disney World and all the other nights there?|128643

I_m not stupid! I know they are more extravagant then the other nights. This year we can_t go 4th of July, we have to go the week after and I_m afraid I am going to miss out. My fiance is mad at me because we have been there the last 3 years and I went at least 30+ times as a child and I still want to know!!! Please explain.......

  • Like you said they are a bit more extravagant and a bit longer. Downtown Disney usually sets off fireworks as well as the parks (except Animal Kingdom). Hollywood Studios also sets off separate fireworks apart from their night time show Fantasmic!. If i recall they play some _patriotic_ music to go along, and their is usually a hidden Mickey in the show somewhere as well.

  • At the Magic Kingdom they have a July 4th version fireworks Red White Blue and gold fireworks with patriotic music. July4th and New Years Eve fireworks at the MK are awesome

At Epcot they have Illuminations Reflections of Earth followed by 2-3 min special fireworks for the 4th.

Not sure what they do at Hollywood Studios
  • How long does it take to go through the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?|117171

I am planning a trip to Cleveland and this is the main reason for it. I am a HUGE music freak. so is my fiance. How long should I expect to be in there?

  • It can take anywhere from 3 hours to the whole day depending on what they have going on. I know sometimes they show documentaries so you may get caught up in the documentary for 2 hours.

  • a day and you should get through it i would not plan for anything less than a day u dont want to rush
  • What county is home to celebrating cheeseburgers and an axe thats no good?|118131

im doing something for school and need to know--what county is home to celebrating cheeseburgers and an axe that_s no good? it has a famous bridge, touches four great lakes, and the county shares its name with a great lake. I know that the location is in the united states i think it is Michigan or Pennsylvania ,but i may be wrong.

  • Huron county -- it is in the thumb of Michigan. Caseville has a big cheeseburger in paradise festival every year. Bad Axe is a city located in Huron County.

  • Look on a map and see which is by a great lake. Home work is needed to be done by you if you ever plan to learn on your own.
  • Is there anywhere nice to stay between northern virginia and new jersey?|116041

I want to travel to New Jersey but I want to stop somewhere and stay along the way. Is there any good lodging or attractions along the way?

  • D.C., Baltimore, anywhere in Maryland, Wilmington Pa, Philly. I don_t know what you consider _nice_. I_ve been to D.C. and visited the Smithsonian Museum, Arlington Nat. Cemetary, and many other places. If you have Google Earth then you can look at pics that people have taken in the area, or you can do a web search.
  • Out of all the tourist destinations in the United States, which are the most overrated?|115643

Everyone always asks about the good spots, but I think the disappointments and not-so-worthwhile places are good to mention, as well.

Are there any that you feel weren_t as spectacular as the guidebooks claim?
Any sights that you thought were a complete waste of time?
Please say why it was disappointing.

  • Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. I_ll take Cocoa Beach and Orlando instead.

I guess if you are a huge partier and go to SoBe, it is alright. But, I am not. Besides sitting on the beach, there was nothing to do. We went to the Miami Seaquarium. I felt so bad for the animals in their tiny tanks.

  • Key West, FL beaches

They are small, man made beaches and have stinky seaweed washed up on the beach.

  • I agree Las Vegas is definetly over-rated
Thirty years ago _Vegas was more fun and it gave you a whole lot more bang for the buck than it does today

  • Mitchell Corn Palace in South Dakota Oh my gosh its so pointless basically all it is is a huge gift shop in a gymnasium with WAY overpriced stuff...dont go there,,,waste of time!

  • as i was reading your question i was thinking Key west just like the first poster did..it was dissapointing because the guidebooks made it sound like it was very tropical..BUT i sat in more traffic than i would driving home from work during rush hour, the water was not clear and warm at all (the snorkeling tours obviously sucked because of that), how tropical is it when there is a TGIF retaurant, walgreens, Rite-Aid, Poppa Johns pizza, etc on every corner, Duval st was pretty cool if i was with my friends partying but me and my girlfriend were looking for a tropical secluded getaway and Key west was far from it...

  • Las Vegas. The casinos are fine, but everything else they_ve tried to put in there just takes up space and doesn_t really provide anything else to do.

  • I_ve been to several places and i think Pensacola is highly overated.I used to book hotels when i traveled and what i did was i was booking with the wrong hotels! They were so pricey! So i said screw it,i got a tip from a friend and he told about a website at www.goodlifeworldplaza.com.I found the cheapest prices here! They also have a spot were you can play casino!I love this site!

What is the best are in philly to live in?|183055

My friends and i want to get an apartment in philly, but we don_t know what area is the best?

  • _best_ is rather vague...it all depends on what you_re looking for. For example, do you have a car? how old are you? what are your primary concerns? cost?

I would say the top places to live in the city are center city, bella vista, old city, society hill, university city. But this is based on a young-ish crowd (20-40). It all depends on what you_re looking for.

  • What do you want out of it? How old are you? Where will you be working??

Alot factors in to the decision. To keep it short, in addition to what Lindsay said, Manayunk, East Falls, South Philly, Graduate Hospital, _ Fairmount are all good as well.

  • the northern surburbs

  • philadelphia
  • Whats the best way to get to Minnesota from Dayton by avoiding Chicago?|194153

A few friends and I driving up to Minnesota this summer and we_re coming from Dayton, Ohio. We would really like to avoid Chicago, what_s the best way to bypass Chicago?

  • I-75 north to St. Ignace, Michigan, and US-2 west to Duluth. But once you get off of 75, it_s all two-lane roads except for a few wide spots. That will slow you down a lot. You may just be better off taking the I-294 toll road around Chicago.

  • I would drive up into Michigan, taking the Lake Michigan car ferry across to Manitowoc, Wis. then across Wis. to Minnesota. The car ferry is a good experience, _ lots of countryside to see.

  • A better question is why on earth would you would want to do that?
  • How was your stay at the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas?|107427

Give me some tips and interesting things that can be found through a visitor_s view. I already know everything on the website. Thanks!

  • I stayed at the Monte Carlo for a few days with my cousins. I didn_t like it that much, nothing fancy to me unless you get a really really great room. We had either the back or front view, I think it was the back view. Some rooms have a bad view, ours had a construction site and parking lot. We could see about 2/10 part of the New York New York hotel and the roller coaster. The pool sucks because there_s a hotel building covering half of the sunlight for the lazy river and wave pool. The lazy river was O.K. but it was too short and it didn_t felt like a river. Thier pool was very dirty and there were leaves and plant stems and some cigerettes floating, kind of disgusting. There_s one heated pool where most adults stay and is usually crowded and the sun is shining on it. I think the pool stays up to 7pm.
Probably the only thing I liked in the Monte carlo was that the food court was close and I got to walk around the strip, it_s close to M _ M world/gameworks/coca cola.
My stay at monte carlo was okay, nothing spectacular like other great hotels in las vegas. This hotel isnt for me cause I have asthma and this hotel has alot of people smoking indoors and such.

  • People are being a bit harsh about the Monte Carlo. It is a pretty nice hotel and I like it. It is not loaded with attractions and it is not enormous in size but to me that is a definite advantage. Those huge everything under one roof hotels may be fine for some but to me places like the MGM or Caesars are so big, the walk from the lobby to your room is exhausting.

However, I cannot recommend the Monte Carlo or New York New York until 2010. There is a massive and I mean massive construction project called City Center underway that runs from the Monte Carlo to the Bellagio.

In fact, there is a inordinate amount of construction going on all over Las Vegas. The Wynn is adding as second tower called Encore, there are several condo projects and the Mirage is refurbishing the Volcano out front so that is a mess, too. If this is your first time to Las Vegas you will not be seeing it at its best.

    *

  • The Monte Carlo is the worst Las Vegas hotel built in the last 20 years. Other than Lance Burtons show, it has nothing to offer! There_s nothing to see or do in it. I went to the Monte Carlo the other day just do remind myself how much I hate it.

The pool is practically unusable right now. They_re building a big hotel 150 feet from the pool and there_s staging _ construction traffic 10 feet from the pool! It_s no place to relax and pretty dirty.

Sorry if that_s not what you were wanting..

  • My stay was almost exactly like the person above. It wasn_t the best hotel I have ever stayed at but, it does save money. I don_t like the pool because there is construction going on about 100 feet from the pools. So, that got annoying. You can get a few good views if you stay in the rooms facing the strip. So all in all it was just ok.

  • Oh wow, don_t stay there ever again. It_s my second least favorite hotel to stay at (next to the Stratosphere). The only good thing about it was that it was in front of the MGM

  • You can read many more opinions from past guests at TripAdvisor.com.
  • How many hours does it take to get to New York City from Buffalo?|119087

I am going to a wedding with my sis in Buffalo and we want to go to NYC but was wondering how long it would take?

  • I_ll assume you mean driving time, 6.5 hours from midtown. More if you stop to pee.

  • nyc is way too far from the B-Lo..go to toronto instead, its only 1 1/2 hours away and just as cool as nyc (well pretty close anyway)

  • NYC is like an 8 hour drive from Buffalo.
  • What are the bathrooms like in the Gaylord Hotel in Nashville?|102266

I prefer bathrooms with the sink and mirror in the bathrooms, but haven_t been able to find any pictures or information on how the bathrooms at the Gaylord Hotel are set up. We will be staying in a standard guest room, nothing extra fancy. Has anyone been there and can tell me how the bathrooms are set up? Thanks!

  • hi there,information for you..enjoy your stay..

The bathrooms are all tiled and have a marble vanity and sink. There is a very nice makeup mirror that is lit and hangs on the wall

  • What is the best way to southern California from the Central US in the summer?|183536

Hello, what is the best way from the Central US (Iowa) to southern California?

    Should I go through Colorado/Utah/Nevada/California?

    Or should I go through Iowa/Kansas/New Mexico/Arizona/California?

I realize there are more pros in going the Colorado route, because of Denver and Las Vegas. However, I just want to go the safest and easiest route to my destination.

Here are two cons I can think of. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Colorado route: I am told it is mountainous (steep cliffs, dangerous bends). I have never been to Colorado, but I have been through the mountains and didn_t feel very comfortable. Is it really dangerous? Going the main route, could I really fall off a steep cliff?

New Mexico route: I am told in the summer the temperatures reach upwards of 127 degrees. Even the best air conditioner can_t keep a car cool and since I am driving with a pet, that wouldn_t be suitable.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Jessica

  • The flattest route is I-35 Des Moines to Kansas City and The Kansas Turnpike to Wichita and I- 35 to to Oklahoma City . Take I-40 west from OKC thru Amarillo, Albuquerque, Flagstaff , Kingman and onto Barstow.
This route does not get hot until you are 40 miles west of Flagstaff. The reason is simple : from OKC and west you_re going uphill until you hit Flagstaff @ 7000_ . After that it_s all down hill. What you heard about NM only applies to the southern route through the state.
Once you cross the Colorado River 40 Miles west of Kingman it_s going to get really hot -as in 110+- and really empty- as in 120 miles to Barstow and nothing in between. It might be wise to grab a motel room in Kingman and sleep until around 3:00 am and then hit the road. You_ll be in LA by 7:00 am
    Fill up in Kingman .
The Route thru the Rockies and the Red lands is spectacular.Having said that to the un- initiated it can also be highly stress full. Having a semi on your tail while you_re on a 5 mile ,6% downhill run through the twisties has a tendency to stress flat landers out. and if the weather turns bad it can get ugly.

  • New Mexico route and I drive it at night or early evening. Keeps cooler out and car will be safe. You can get to cool areas to spend teh rest of teh night and sleep in the next morning.

  • route 66

  • Go the Colorado route. You won_t regret it, the scenery is spectacular.

  • fly southwest...your gonna pay so much for gas...and get lots of oil changes...plus your tires...too much milage...fly southwest...there_s lots of airports out in so cal...depending on where you wanna go...the OC? like the show there_s John Wayne...there_s of course LAX for the city but there_s nothing out there just really dirty...and there_s Ontario which is in between them kinda more desert type area...but a lot less traffic

  • fly
    its quicker and probably cheaper

  • I have driven all the routes and like So. Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, California then South on Hiway one. Beautiful scenery the whole way and wonderful ocean breezes South. Just remember that 75 is the fastest you can legally go, but 55 saves you the most money. Also, they were building freeways thru the mountains when I first went accoss in 1959 on Route 66, I think they may be finished by now.

Where is the best place to travel to watch fireworks in the US?|104245

We_re looking for a romantic summer getaway near the ocean. Something cheap and in a nice warm place where you can swim. We_re not big on crowds, so a place like Disney wouldn_t be appropriate. We_re open to any suggestions.

  • Since you don_t want crowds.....You might want to try watching the San Diego Fireworks from Sea World. Combine a beach bonfire with a fireworks display for a totally romantic date that costs absolutely nothing. Fireworks at Sea World normally occur around 9:30 PM during the summer months only. The best areas for fireworks viewing are located in Mission Bay. The beaches have firepits for building a bonfire. You can even roast marshmellows and make s_mores.

  • Boston has the ultimate July 4th. If you can get close enough to hear the Boston Pops orchastra play, hey are syncronized to the fireworks. Truly memorable and you can easliy leave the Boston area for a place alson the shore. However since it_s a holiday time, the rates are up.

  • lake tahoe
not near the ocean, but plenty of beach
smaller crowds, casinos with romantic restaurants, and cheap hotel rooms.

  • i would_a said my hood in Tampa or where my uncles at in ATL but u want romantic...sorry just try to go to Texas,im sure derr is a place where u can sit back and chill, plus its warm, eben though its big i dont think it would be crowded either, plus i bet is cheap since it is TEXAS! lolz i never been so i dont know, just guessing

  • I have been to so many places for the fireworks..Washington DC, New York, San Fran, New Orleans..etc...I thought the best place by far was Marathon Florida. It is in the Florida Keys. I not only saw one of the best shows I also watched the fireworks with palm trees all around and the sound of the breeze on the Gulf. And a sweet Mojito in my hand and my hubby by my side. I It was a wonderful experience that I will never forget. I would do it again and again.. Check out Marathon, Sombrero Beach.. No matter where you are 4th have a great time. here is a site to look at
    http://www.fla-keys.com/marathon/

  • Nashville shores a truly beutiful sight on the 4th of July:)

  • Charleston is very romantic, but I don_t know about swimming there. Or Bald Head Island if you are golfers.

  • I know it_s going to sound a little crazy, and it_s not near the ocean, but Pittsburgh always has great fireworks displays. Zambelli International is located nearby in New Castle, PA, and they_re one of the best fireworks companies in the world. While there isn_t an ocean, there is plenty of water with the 3 Rivers. You could find a nice secluded spot at Moraine State Park or somewhere like that where you could swim and be on the water and then you could come into the city to enjoy the city stuff. Lots to do in the Pittsburgh area inexpensively and lots of variety. PNC Park is beautiful!
  • Is it Possible to go to School in Austin or Phoenix without a Car?|117727

I_m not going to be able to take my car with me when I transfer out of state from Richmond,Virginia. I am looking at schools out of state and would like to work, live and go to school in either downtown Phoenix, Arizona or Austin, Texas.

Is it possible to live without a car in either cities and still have a fun life. A lot of college students here in Richmond don_t have cars so they have to make friends with people with cars, and/or only work, play and live downtown.

  • I lived in Austin for four years without a car. I lived off campus, worked off campus, and had fun off campus too. But you have to be ready for a few things

    1) strategic grocery shopping- how much can you really carry without a trunk to load it into? and catching the bus with a load of groceries is NO FUN
    2) Buses in Austin don_t run on Sundays, most lines have limited schedules on saturday, and they cut off completely by about 12:30a (except the 6th street to campus bus, woohoo!)
    3) You will have to mooch a ride at some point if you want a social life, Regardless of whether you_re a slave to the bus or not. If you are, plan on taking at least an hour more than you would need to arrive anywhere if you had a car. That_s how long it takes to wait for the bus, ride the bus, and get where you need to go.
    4) My favorite thing about Austin is the variety of people you will meet there. Funny thing about not owning a vehicle, is most of the most out-there and extreme personalites are walking the street with you (or sitting on the sidewalk) or they are on the bus. Man I_ve seen some stuff go down on the bus.

It_s do-able, but there are sacrifices! Austin also has lots of cabs.

  • If your living on campus and willing to have a bit more limited experience, then yes you can live at UT Austin without a car. The thing about UT is it has 52,000 plus students so that in itself is like a small town. It also happens to be right next to downtown Austin. You might be able to find a job on campus as there is a need to make the UT campus run, i.e. food, retail, ect.. Downtown is about a mile or 2 from the heart of campus. If you go to St. Eds you will need a car. It is a commuter school in Austin. There are buses you can use but they are not a clear cut mode of public transportation. So yes it is possible, but to do some activities you will find yourself either mooching rides or wishing you had transportation. I would say you can easily get by a few months and not be board, which will buy you time to figure out if you really want and need a car, but I would recommend you have some transportation because all of Texas is known for urban sprawl and you don_t want to be that weirdo who only hangs out on campus.
  • What are the safest areas that I should look for when I start my search for an apartment in Chicago?|115636

I am moving there with my toddler. We like to take walks and go the park and would like to feel safe when doing so. We obviously can_t afford a pricey area...where would you suggest or not suggest in Chicago?

  • There are no 100% safe places in the city of Chicago. If you really want to be safe, move to the suburbs.

Even places like Lincoln Park, Old Town and Lakeview which are high rent districts have their issues with crime. If you do have to live in the city pick an appartment that has good security features and has well lit entriyways and exits. And if possible get parking with the building you_re renting so you won_t be out late looking for a parking spot and have to walk 4-5 blocks home by yourself in the dark.

  • Lincoln Park, Rogers Park, and Edgewater are family friendly places, but you will need to look pretty well for areas that meet your rent price range. Rogers Park I would be pretty careful in since some places may not be too safe since you want to be someplace that_s well lit and not secluded at specific times of the day and night. Go on google and look on www.chicagoapartmentfinders.com and contact someone about what your specific needs are or you can check this site called www.move.com and another one called www.apartmentguide.com. Hope that helps

  • I like the Hyde Park area, Blue Island

  • If you can_t afford a pricy area, then look around the South Side... it_s really nice there for people on a budget.

  • ok did that guy just say the south side? do not listen to him. that is a bad side of chicago.

are you looking in the suburbs too? because there are some pretty affordable suburbs that you can live in. and if you work in chicago you can take the highway straight there.

    i recommend

rogers park (chicago) but only some parts of it
villa park (western suburb) has plenty of prairie paths and is kid friendly
lombard (town next to villa park)
    aurora (part of it)

  • _East Rogers Park_

Or away from downtown.._Garfield Ridge._ A great area and has lots of parks.

Look into _Lincoln Park_..its considered expensive, but look around for yourself, maybe youd be able to afford something there.

    check craigslist.org.
  • What are some of the best Nightlife places in the Outerbanks?|115238

I_m going to the outerbanks with my family and some friends. I am 22 and would like to know what are some good bars to go to. Also if they have any special DJ nights or karaoke or some websites or anything. Also if there_s any places I should avoid let me know.

Im hoping to find a place for a twenties crowd.

  • lol your parents got you good. there aren_t cities on the outer banks. In fact once you go south of Nags Head, it_s virtually all uninhabited wildlife preserves. Corolla has a population of about 500 and is best known for its 12,000 acres wild horse preserve. Then Duck which is about the same. It has a country club. Probably your best bet for night life is Kill Devil Hills. It_s an actual city--population of like 5,000. Home of Wright Bro memorial. Nags Head is a bit smaller with a population of less than 3,000 but it has a lot of tourist stuff.

Further south than that there isn_t anything.

Kill Devil Hills has a cool place called Jolly Roger Bar. They also have Chilli Peppers and a brewery--Outer Banks Brewery. It_s a real family town though so there isn_t much late night stuff. Most places are going to be closing by midnight.
  • How can I find a decent studio in nyc without going completely broke?|170453

I have been apartment hunting in nyc and would like to find a nice studio bc I have had bad luck with roommates and the roommate matching websites I have used have not helped out a lot either!! What are my best options to find a place that is not outrageously priced but in a nice part of the city?

  • A studio in Manhattan will go for $1800 or so. The other boroughs can be had for much less. Try Sunnyside, Woodside or Jackson Heights in Queens. These neighborhoods are a short train ride from midtown.

  • If you want to live in Manhattan its going to be hard finding a place that is inexpensive. I recommend you look up Astoria or Bayside they are nice places and a lot cheaper than the city. Also if you are getting a studio it is probably going to be very small. When you do get the apartment you should look up
    http://www.storagedeluxe.com/.
I rented a storage unit from them when I got my first apartment and it worked out really well. Hopefully they will be as helpful to you.

  • LOLOL. Studio? Nice part of the city? Are you Donald Trump. You would do better in the Boros. Rent is outrageous even in bad parts of the city.

  • My advice, don_t look for one in Manhattan, because their expensive. Consider looking for a decent studio in the outer boroughs.

    Good luck

Where are some good places to visit in Los Angeles or anywhere in California?|112374

Please let me know the adress and the site if possible.
    Thanks,

  • Wow, where to begin. It really depends on what interests you. There are tours at Universal Studios, Disneyland, Knots Berry Farm, The Queen Mary in Long Beach, explore Hollywood.

Personally I am a nature nut and hate tourist traps like that. Drive up to Lake Arrowhead or Big Bear, or Lake Tahoe area. I also enjoy hiking in Joshua Tree National Park by Palm Springs. (in the winter only) Go to Lone Pine California and drive up Mount Whitney, go to Death Valley.

California is such a diverse state when in comes to geography. Where else in the USA can you surf, snow ski and hike in the desert all in one day?

  • The pantageous theatre. Get tickets to a show if possible.

Hollywood Blvd. Just to walk up and down the streets is great fun. Looking at all the stars and stuff. It_s best to do it in the daytime. There are more weirdos at night. It_s actually alot of fun to see all the diffrent kinds of people walking along too. Most have really weird hairdos.

Angels stadium. Thats in Anaheim. I don_t know if they will be playing or not. But if they are, try to get tickets. You can buy some for cheap.

Richard Nixon Library. Thats in Yorba Linda. It_s actually the site where out president was born. I think he might have died there too. Not sure.

  • There are literally hundreds of things to do here in LA. Here is my list of must sees. Visit as many as you have time for.:

Disneyland: The Happiest Place on Earth. Half a billion visitors cant be wrong. #1 Destination.
Universal Studios: A theme park that grew out of a studio tour. #2 Destination.
Even if you dont visit Disneyland or Universal Studios Tour, Downtown Disney District and Universal City Walk are very fun places to visit for shopping and eating. And theyre free to visit.

Hollywood: Enjoy the Walk of Fame, Entertainment Museum, Chinese Theatre and more. You can see a lot for free. The Hollywood _ Highland complex is AMAZING. It has lots of shops and restaurants, and the Kodak Theater (home of the Academy Awards). I also like the El Capitan theater, right across the street, where Disney shows their movies. And the Hollywood Bowl is a GREAT place to listen to concerts outdoors.

Rodeo Drive, 90210: Packed with exclusive shops, full of gawkers. They all came to enjoy the excess. Free, unless you intend to buy something.

Venice Beach: Los Angeles kitsch and over-the-top culture at its best. Here you_ll find Muscle Beach, street performers and tacky shops galore. Fun, VERY interesting, but I avoid it after dark, when it gets a little TOO interesting for my taste.

Santa Monica: Beach and Pier: Great beach scene and a classic seaside amusement park, complete with antique carousel that has been in a lot of TV and movies. (The Sting and _Three_s Company_ come immediately to mind). After visiting the pier, you can ride a bike south a couple miles to Venice Beach. Third Street Promenade - Downtown Santa Monica_s shopping promenade is often the scene of movie star-sightings. Just north of Santa Monica Pier.

Sunset Boulevard: Perhaps one of the world_s most famous streets, it began as a route between the stars_ posh neighborhoods and the Hollywood studios. It runs from downtown to the ocean, passing through the _Sunset Strip_ on its way.

Farmers Market and The Grove - A new shopping complex right next to a Los Angeles landmark, The Grove and Farmers Market coexist. Enjoy a movie or shopping, and then take the trolley to the Farmers Market for lunch or dinner. It is right next to CBS, so walk across the lot to see if they are taping _The Price is Right_. You might even get in.

Griffith Park - Home of the Los Angeles Zoo, Griffith Park Observatory, Travel Town, the Greek Theatre, and Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage.

Getty Museum - The Getty_s architecture is so beautiful that it keeps me fascinated. No matter whether you like their art or architecture better (or maybe you_ll just enjoy the view), the Getty is sure to please. Free.

Attend a TV taping - You can get free tickets at audiencesunlimited.com, tvtix.com, or see the booth at Universal City walk. It_s very interesting to see a show being taped. The most popular, by far, is the Tonight show. Check the NBC web site for all the details there.

    Places to eat:
In-N-Out Burger: Multiple locations, best burger in LA, ask anyone.
Pinks Hot Dogs: 709 N. La Brea, just north of Melrose. You might even see a celebrity. Maybe.
Tommys Chili Burgers: Look for the shack, an LA tradition. The original location is at Beverly _ Rampart, a couple miles west of downtown.
Canters Deli: 419 N. Fairfax, between Beverly _ Melrose. Near CBS, you might spot a celebrity.
Phillippes: 1001 N. Alameda. Great roast beef sandwiches. Near Union Station and Olvera Street. Watch the mustard, its hot.
The Pantry: Corner of Figueroa and 9th, downtown. Huge portions, they never close, GREAT steak and eggs.

    Places to Stay:
Since LA is so spread out, there is no single place that is close to EVERYTHING. Most people who come here tend to stay in Hollywood, Santa Monica, or Anaheim. In Hollywood, I recommend the Orchid Suites, Hollywood Celebrity Hotel, or Holiday Inn Walk of Fame, all near Hollywood and Highland. Another one is the Best Western Sunset Plaza. In Santa Monica, the Holiday Inn Santa Monica is close to the pier and reasonably priced. In Anaheim, I recommend the Howard Johnson (HoJo) Anaheim, and the Candy Cane Inn. There is also a nice place in Burbank called the Best Western Media Center, very close to Warner, NBC, and Universal Studios.

    Places to Shop:
    Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica
    The Grove, Los Angeles
    Americana @ Brand, Glendale
    Beverly Center, Los Angeles
    Citadel Outlets, Commerce
    Brea Mall, Brea
    The Block at Orange, Orange
    South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa
    Fashion Island, Newport Beach
    Santee Alley, Los Angeles

  • Can a tourist use their drivers license while visiting the US?|111976

Hi, a friend of mine from Mexico is staying in Iowa for a couple of weeks for work training. She wants to rent a car and come to visit me to Minnesota during the weekend. She has her valid drivers license from Mexico with her, but we were wondering if this is all she needs or she needs to get some other kind of permission, if so, how and where to go? Thanks in advance.

  • She should also get an International Drivers License. And IDL is only valid when accompanied with a driver_s license issued by the owner_s home jurisdiction. It will have all of the information on it translated into English, so a police officer in this country would be able to read it.

  • Thanks, very complete. She came to visit me using just her mexican drivers license, the international license is a good idea, but I_ve heard they are kind of expensive and she would only stay here for a couple of weeks, so didn_t seem to be worth it. Well, thanks again and have a nice weekend!

  • yes
  • What day and time are the best to drive through Atlanta GA to avoid traffic?|166311

Im driving to Florida in June and Im scared to drive through Atlanta after a game or during rush hour. Is there a time when the roads are relatively empty?

  • I grew up in Atlanta and learned to drive there. The rush hour is virtually nonstop now. If you need to drive during the day, I would try between 9:30-10:30am or 2-3pm. If you can drive through at night, that would be better, after 10pm like the other posters said. And definitely take 75 and not 285. There are way too many trucks on 285, it makes me nervous and I_m used to it! You won_t really save any time on the bypass, I usually make it through quicker driving through the city. There really isn_t any time when the roads are empty. Just make sure you are alert and don_t drive too slow! Good luck, you will be fine!

  • I am an over-the-road truck driver and I make it into the atlanta area often enough to know that to avoid most traffic you should go through between 10 pm and 3:30 am most any night. traffic outside those times can be intimidating to anyone not used to it. My wife gets anxiety attqcks in atlanta traffic if she goes during the afternoon for example.
    Safe trip!

  • Hamradio gave you good information about the time . . . I suggest also that you stay on I-75 and go straight through the center of town...much easer than the by-pass and it_s faster....

  • if there is no rush hour traffic or complete gridlock for 4 hours after a Braves game, or congestion or confusion or the occasional _10 lanes shut down in-the-blink-of-an-eye to 1 lane due to continuous and never ending and random construction, etc. you_ll be fine! just do what i do...
close your eyes, step on the gas, and pray (oh, and change lanes as often as possible just to add to the fun!)...or ask someone else to drive you and you sleep the entire way!
  • How do I go from Commack to New York City?|167671

I_m staying at Commack and I want to visit New York city (have also plans of going to New Jersey since it_s near the place). Can anyone tell me the easiest way to go there? I don_t have a car so I will be using any of the public transportation.
    Thanks in advanced!

  • If you don_t have a car and have to use public transportation, then you are in luck. Take the LIRR (Long Island Rail Road), it will bring you from Commack into NYC @ Penn Station (underneath Madison Square Garden). From there you can access the NJ Transit, PATH trains, AMTRAK, and NYC subway line (1,2,3,A,C).

  • Take the train...easiest and fastest way!

  • or you can take the lirr and transfer to hicksville and then take the bus from there. i think its cheaper

  • The fastest way is taking the LI-RR trains to Penn station, witch would be the heart of Manhattan, then transfer over to the Path trains that should be heading to New Jersey.

  • lirr to penn station long island rail road and buy your ticket at the little atm looking machines be fore you get on cause they jack up the price on the train

How would you convince others that Mount Rushmore National Park / Memorial is worth saving?|134508

its for a biology project, and i know its a silly question, but you would help alot (:

  • Why is the question of _saving_ Mount Rushmore coming up? It is made out of stone and isn_t going anywhere.

  • It is a rhetorical question. But it is part of our history and part of our heritage. It was a monster project under primitive conditions and people died building that thing. It would be like going to China and tearing down the great wall. It is always worth saving.
  • What state(s) in the US are there, where you can drive through miles and miles of open, barren desert?|103279

I_m aware that somewhere like Texas would probably be good for this, but when I do a roadtrip across America this summer, I wouldn_t like to detour that far south.

Are there any other states that resemble the typical hollywood depiction of driving a car, with your friends, through miles of open desert?

  • New Mexico, Northwest Texas, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, southeastern California and Nevada.
For instance in New Mexico there are places where you can travel 100 miles without seeing another car or a house! And I_m talking about highways. A lot of the Southwest is desolate. Or you can even do the Mojave desert in California.
    Have fun!

  • NEVADA

I drove from Reno to Las Vegas.

it was a 8 hr round trip drive through nothing and nowhere, but relaxing

  • Absolutely. In my experience, most states in the western United States have an area or areas where the terrain is dry and open and very _desert romantic_. Your best bets are probably Utah and Nevada. Around these two states you could drive for days and stay in barren desert environs. The sky looks huge and the landscape vast and dry. There are some great state and National Parks to check out...like Arches and Bryce Canyon. Plus, you could always end it with a fun weekend in Las Vegas.!

I have done a lot of roadtrips through the western United States and really love the wide open spaces. Bring lots of great music and a sense of adventure. And, buy a great road atlas. Getting off the interstate and finding some less travelled highways will allow you to see more beautful spots and have bigger adventures!

Hope this helps. Have a great trip!

    -Kango Traveler

  • California, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas but you said that would be too far south.

  • Before you go blasting down some god-forsaken piece of two-lane black top ,plant this number in the back of your head and never ever forget it
While numerically only 20% of the accidents in the West happen in rural areas , statistically 80 % of the fatalities resulting from accidents happen in rural areas
    The reasons:
The nearest hospital can be over 100 miles away and the nearest Level 1 trauma center can be many multiples of that
There are a lot of places where cell phones won_t work
Weather conditions are not always good for flying helos in so in many case you will be transported by ambulance
Newbies have more than a little difficulty with the reality of a the idea that head on colissions must be avoided at all costs .
Given the choice between a head on collission and going into a ditch at 70 mph you have to take the ditch bc the impact speed is 1/2 of the head on collission speed
The most common cause of head on collissions is people who completely misjudge the speed and distance of an oncoming vehicle when some one is using the oncoming lane as a legal passing lane.
The second most common cause is livestock in the road
Much of West is open range and on the open range fences are designed to keep things out not in
    Enjoy your trip
    Edit :
Now that I_ve hopefully scared the crap out of you, let me suggest a couple of personal favorites
US 50 from basically the jct of I-70 _ I-15 to Carson City NV
US 95 From reno to las vegas which takes about 8 hours one way
    Alternate routing to that :
Reno_Tonopah NV _ Rachel NV via the extraterrestrial highwy and area 51 _ LAS
Almost anywhere on US 93 in AZ NV ID _ MT that isn_t in a city
    From I -40 in Flagstaff :
    US89 N_*US 89A N _ SR 389 W _SR 59 _SR 9
Almost all of US191 in AZ _ UT

  • Where can I find San Francisco ordinances online concerning garbage disposal?|102881

The issue I am trying to research is: if a house is for sale and no lives there, is there still as requirement to pay for garbage pickup? I want to see the actual ordinance before I call the garbage co. (who insists that there must be garbage collection). Thanks. If you can provide a link, thanks.

  • Most all municipalities in California require garbage pick up at homes, occupied or not.

If you have enough know how as to be able to post a question here, you should be able to look up the specific ordinance for San Francisco, as they post all that stuff online now.

    Not downtown or the flats.

Also in Cleveland Hts. on Cedar near the Cedar Fairmount district there are some places to drink as well some places on Lee Road between Cedar and the Dellwood Roads.

How does the seating work at the fillmore in denver?|100790

Never been to a concert at the Fillmore and see that it is General Admission. My ticket has a row and a seat.... so is it first come first serve?

  • There are no seats at the fillmore. It_s wide open.

  • I_ve only been there once for a concert, but the time I went it was General Admission and there were no seats, just standing room. Usually with GA it_s first come first served even if there are seats.

  • What to wear to the Capital Grille in Chicago?|174795

Im going to the Capital Grille in chicago tomorrrow and i have a black, shortish medium length turtle neck dress (long sleeve) with a gold belt around it and tall black high heel boots with leggings (black).. Is this dressy enough, or too dressy?

  • I think it sounds just right. Not too dressy and not too casual.

Maybe add some nice gold-colored earrings to finish the look!

  • sounds hot..wish i could see a pic! go w/ that!

  • stephaniesoprano - Your choice is just fine, just dressy enough...the Capital Grille is a casual dining restaurant and not very formal.

Enjoy! Try Sam_s Mashed Potatoes...they are the best!

  • The Capital Grille describes itself as having a _club like atmosphere_ so that would indicate upscale attire. What you describe sounds fine. Have fun

  • Just fine - Capital Grille is fancy, but not ridiculously so. You_ll look great.
  • What do people think of going out drinking by yourself in New York?|185412

I_m from Ireland and will be alone for a few weeks and was wondering if New York generally is a friendly city for nights out. Where would people advise me to go? Is it a weird thing in America to be out by yourself for a night out!?!

    Thanks in advance!

  • I live in the NYC area and I go out alone all the time. Most of my friends have moved out of the area, so I really don_t have friends to drink with anymore. But, I go out just about every weekend and drink alone. There_s even a classic rock song called _I drink alone_. I actually find it more fun to drink alone sometimes because it gives you a better opportunity to meet more interesting people rather than just focusing attention on your friends. No one will look at you like you_re weird or out of place as long as you stick to the DIVE BARS! Try to stay away from those hipster/clicky bars. The best dive bars in NYC are: The Duck (2nd Ave. bet. 111th and 112th St.), Doc Holidays (Avenue A _ 9th St.), Coyote Ugly (First Ave. _ 9th St.), and The Patriot (110 Chambers St. _ Church ST.). These places also have the cheapest drinks and down to earth patrons!

  • Personally, I wouldn_t do it because I know I would be bored out of my mind. I_m a little too shy to start a conversation with a complete stranger in a bar/lounge + I_m a female and I wouldn_t want to give the guys in the bar/lounge the wrong impression by having them think that I_m there alone for the WRONG reasons. However, my BF does it all the time.

  • I think that there are a lot of people that come from out of town/business, etc so i dont think I look at people weird when they are alone. The only problem you may experience is that not all new yorkers are overly friendly and will spark up conversation! I would recommend going out near Times Square with other tourists or hitting up some nice hotel bars. (My fav is the Cellar Bar in the Hudson Hotel or The Gansevoort)

  • The question I think you are asking is _Is there any friendly neighborhood watering holes_? I think you would be comfortable in a place where alot of young people hang out. Check out places near New York University, Columbia University etc...those kinds of places. Thats your best bet.

  • Ha! I was in the same situation but in Israel. I did go out on my own and met a lot off nice people. To reatch out i did everything not to flirt and was just beeing friendly. Bring a book to the bar or a newspaper that will ese the situation.

  • check out mccsorley_s--its the oldest irish bar in nyc..i think you_ll be ok going out alone here, especially on a weeknight--gets a little crowded on weekends

    http://www.mcsorleysnewyork.com/

  • It would fine as long as you don_t over do it. Don_t get so inebriated that you might get into trouble.
    We love cute Irish accents.

What kind of lines are there for general ticket holders visiting Disneys El Capitan Theater in Hollywood?|197529

We_re thinking about visiting El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, and don_t want to spend the extra money for VIP tickets. The web site recommends arriving at least an hour before show time to get seats. Is that really necessary? How bad is the crowd? There would be 8 of us, but all teenage or older, so we don_t need all the seats in the same row.

  • If they say recommend an hour, they are probably right. you have to take into consideration, Traffic, Parking, getting your seats and all those other things that _Always_ seem to go wrong when you want to do something at a specific time.

  • The past two shows I_ve been to, that 1 hour is just about right. The last show (Hannah Montana), we have VIP tix, and got there just as the box office was opening. There was already a considerable line (This is Friday morning before 10 AM, just so you know).

So yeah, an hour is about right. Maybe more on Saturday and Sunday.

  • We saw a show there a couple of months ago on a Sat afternoon. The movie had been out for a couple of months at that point. There was plenty of seating for us just to walk up and get the tickets. The theater may have been 1/3 full.

If you are planning on going to see a new release, than you need to get there earlier.
  • What are some great places to shop for clothes around shea?|152425

I am going to shea stadium in NY on Aug. 23 and i wanted to know if there were any good shopping malls for a teenage boy going back to school.

  • My friend, there are no shops around Shea Stadium. You_ll have to go to the Queens Center Mall, which is located on Woodhaven Blvd.

From Shea, you can take the Manhattan-bound (eastbound) #7 train (Purple Line) to 74th Street-Broadway/Roosevelt Avenue-Jackson Heights.

Once there, transfer to the _G_, _R_ or _V_ trains (Light Green, Yellow or Orange Line Local). Take either eastbound train from Roosevelt Avenue-Jackson Heights to Woodhaven Blvd-Slattery Plaza/Queens Center.

When you exit the subway at Woodhaven Blvd, walk a half block to the mall. You can_t miss it.

    Good luck

  • How much money should I take for a 4 day trip to Las Vegas?|121501

I plan on going at the end of September. The flight and hotel are booked but how much should I take for the trip? I plan to gamble a little see some sites and shop for a couple of things, nothing major. Thanks for any help!

  • table games are cheap in some casinos, dirt cheap in some casinos and royally expensive in some others. The MG, Venetian, Bellagio are grand examples of expensive casinos where 4 losses at a stretch would mean you lost a $100 bill where as some like Alladin you can lose anywhere between 5 - 7 games straight and be down $100 and some casinos like the Orleans you need to loose ( depending on time ) 20 straight games to have thrown away $100. Now you need to be attentive...... what we do is we go looking at all casinos in the daytime and gamble in the night!
Take money depending on your gambling streak. I have a thumb of rule I play at the cheapie casinos where my money lasts at least 6-7 rounds! If I get 3 straight losses time to change table! take about $1000 for food and gambling. But I would keep some money aside for other things like the comedy clubs, the night shows etc.....

Food is expensive at all places in Vegas strip. venture out of the Strip to have your food they are real cheap. If you want to do something exotic have dinner at the Eiffel Tower of Paris Paris it cost about $200 and you need to be attired in formal wear ( means shoes, tie and a coat ).
If you plan on travelling outside do venture out to Hoover Dam it is a great sight and about 3 hrs drive away. But 4 days is not enough even for Vegas...... so I don_t think you will be travelling anywhere else. Remember to watch the water fountain show in front of Bellagio it is breathtaking and free!
I plan to re-visit Vegas in October!
You have fun Gambling and lots of Good luck to you

Oh another thing water inside every hotel Costs about $3 -$5 per bottle so remember to buy it outside before you go into your room!

  • I lived in Vegas for 4 years. The food is cheap _ the drinks are free as long as you are gambling. But, my biggest suggestion is to take a set amount of money to put into machines or to gamble with...then, don_t let yourself go over that set limit. That is where people get into trouble saying just 1 more time just a couple more dollars...you end up overspending.I always took rolls of quarters to keep myself entertained on the slots.Souveniers are cheap, too, Your biggest expense is the gambling...if you don_t overdo it there you_ll be fine with a few hundred dollars. If you plan to see a show be prepared to spend about $100. for good show tickets.

  • As much as you can...
Coz you are a lucky man..

  • I would take $200 per day if you are not much of a gambler. $50-$100 per day for gambling and the rest for food, shopping, and shows.

  • In 4 nights, its easy to drop a grand. $500 should do it just for the gambling - you_ll play alot more than you think. Shows are about $100 each (definitely go see Xumanity!! - it was off the hook) - two shows should be good for 4 night trip. Meals are quite cheap but shopping is quite expensive. Also if you go clubbing, watch out for the $15 drinks and $10 packs of smokes.

My advice, have a seperate cash reserve for your gambling money and charge everything else. Never go to the ATM in the casino or you_ll be deep in the hole if you do.

  • I went back in april for 4 days and only spent like 600-700 bucks and had alot of fun and bought alot of suvinours... Vegas is weird cause you can go there and blow all kinds of money with out gambling but you can also do ur homework and find all kinds of places to go and save money if you want to take that route. you can get a beer for between 1-10 dollars, i did my homework before i left, you will not have enough time to see what you want, you will have more problems with time then money.

  • Well the food down there is way expensive and if you are planning on gambling you are going to blow a lot (don_t get addicted). I would bring a lot cuz it goes away fast.

  • If you want to see a show, try to purchase your tickets before you leave on the trip(Cirque du Soleil has 5 shows;awesome)
I would take approx. 150.00 per day for Food, gambling, shopping, etc
You might want to allow yourself a specific amount for gambling each day. Once that is gone, you quit for the day.
Have one nice dinner, but don_t forget the buffets at Bellagio and the new Wynn are amazing. Also, seafood at Joe_s Stone Crab (Caesars Forum shops) is the best in the US. Go at lunchtime, when there are lower prices but the same good food.
    Be safe and enjoy

  • spend 100.00 a day. stop after 50.00 if you don_t win anything

  • Las Vegas is expensive!! Take a lot of money.

  • I just came back from a trip on Friday. I took $500 per day. Worked just fine.

  • at least a grand or two

  • not counting airfare and hotel i would sayyou could get by on 500 or 600 dollars but 1000 dollars would be great.

  • take all of it. spend as much as you can.

  • 6000 you know like 1500 a day that way you can have a good time.

  • If you budget how much you want to lose in those 4 days and don_t put in any more in the machines/tables. you can get a better idea on how much to bring (if you wanted to blow $100) a day on gambling(which is very easy to do). Base it around that , you never know you could be lucky !!! I would suggest with a $100 a day gambling budget,,probably a $1000?Good Luck .

What is the best apartment complex in Gold Coast and Old Town Chicago?|183169

My wife and I are moving to Chicago from San Francisco and would like to know what the better apartment complexes are in Chicago particularly the Gold Coast and/or Old Town area.

  • Here is a list of apartments that are in the area. Hope that these links will help.
  • How do i make my Los Angeles dream come true?|194641

It has always been a dream of mine to work in LA as a personal assistant or for a big business. I am 18 and have just finished my A Levels of which one is in business. I have no idea as to how to look for the jobs and would i need a degree? If anyone can help it would be much appreciated!

  • Others already stated the reality pretty well. It_s not like you can just move here, especially from another country. That fabjob site is a scam. It plays up to people_s fantasies, when all it does is sell an ebook.

AE007 got things pretty close. I would disagree with his analysis of Whittier as being unsafe. I live nearby, and the majority of Whittier is pretty safe.

  • You need a sponsor (employer) for a work visa - you can_t apply for one on your own.

Since you mention A Levles I am guesssing you are British. Check with US companies in the UK and UK companies with offices in the USA. For example, Hilton and Marriott hire international staff as interns.

UK citizens can visit the USA for up to 90 days as a tourist, so you could travel for interviews _ tests if necessary.

Search _international exchange programs USA_ and there should be many links to programs that offer temporary and seasonal work in the US. An example is
    http://www.ccusa.com/country.aspx

Do carefully check any programs you might be interested in as not all of them are a good deal.

Another option is to go to school in the USA. UK citizens can easily get a US student visa and you MAY be able to work on-campus. Having a USA university diploma or certificate will make applying for jobs easier, and going to school in the US will help you decide if you really want to move here.

    Good luck!

  • Linky Deleted....thanks Obvious Man for pointing out it was a scam, sorry for posting duff gen, it wasn_t intentional.

Completely off topic but I can totally see where you guys are coming from its refreshing to hear Americans with that view as most Americans that I_ve met seem to have the same deluded view of Britain. We don_t all go to visit the queen for a cup of tea and talk in posh accents, lol. Britain has its crap bits too.

  • California in general is not a good place to start your dream.

Arnold Schwarzenegger_s already ruined millions of Americans Dreams to own a home.

  • You can_t.

Not at 18. Not with A-Levels.

    Get a Bachelor_s Degree, that_s a minimum.

  • Everyone has that dream, i don_t see why people in the United Kingdom expect it to be like paradise, work just like that, with a big company, Hollywood hills party.... ( An English friend of mine had that dream, was disappointed, because it wasn_t that easy here, and it_s not like a paradise or the most beautiful city on the planet)

    What is LA like ?

This question is asked all the time. Los Angeles is not like on Television or MTV shows, even if they claim to be real, i always wondered why i never drive next to mansions in all parts of LA and always see expensive cars cruising around .... cause that does not happen to be the case in LA. I like the city for it_s diversity and culture, and yes it does have it_s NICE parts, but also Ghetto ones.. . So expect it to be more of a working city , than seeing movie stars walking down the road with their precious dogs. A lot of people also come to LA as College/University students, Business man, Diplomats or middle class workers transferred to work here.

    Is it Expensive ?

Cost of living anywhere in California, is very high. A minimum rent per month starts at $ 1200 , so make sure you bring enough money to pay for your food, rents, and gas, which is a big problem right now, due to the economy.

Can you get jobs easily ?

the job market in LA is almost non-existent right now, you_ll have to wait, till it gets better, which will hopefully happen soon. Many people are moving to LA, trying to find a job, and end up failing to get into the job markets pockets. Really think about what you_re doing here, make sure you know why you should come to LA.

    Here are some places:

Safe Areas : Beverly Hills, Bel-Air, Westwood, Marina Del Rey, Century City, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Burbank, Glendale, Altadena, South Pasadena, La Brea area, Woodland Hills, Arcadia, Toluca Lake, Pacific Palisades, San Dimas, Glendora, Van Nuys, Calabasas( a bit further away though) ..etc.

Unsafe areas : Whittier, Inglewood, Parts of Lakewood, Parts of Long Beach, Bellflower , South Central ( not as bad as on TV though), Parts of Pasadena, little parts of Glendale in the south (but the majority of the district is VERY safe), some areas in Hollywood are quite dodgy( especially during the night), Paramount, Lynwood, Watts, Gardena, South Gate, Downtown LA just few parts( by the way, it_s improving there, starting to be a much better place to live at)... etc.

Not all lists of areas, just most of the safe and unsafe areas which are known. Good luck coming here !
  • What is the easiest method to get from Memorial Drive to Brattle Street in Cambridge, MA?|150335

is it walking distance and i will be carrying a heavy box so is it worth taking a cab? what about a subway? thanks!

  • Not enough info. Depends more preciesly where to where. Memorial Drive is very long, and Brattle runs sort of parallel for a while. So it could be 3 blocks, it could be 3 miles. One end of Brattle is Harvard Square on the Red Line, one end of Mem Drive is near Kendall on the Red line.

  • As Penny Lee says there is not enough info. At the closest point Memorial Drive is only 2 blocks from Brattle Street but at other points they can be as much as almost 4 miles from each other.

The closest subway station is Harvard, one block from a section of Brattle Street.
  • What should I remember to take with me on a road trip to San Francisco?|147073

Ok, we_re driving up to San Francisco and was trying to make a list of stuff I needed to take on the trip with me. You know like iPod, DS Lite, etc. Any other suggestions?

  • Digital camera
    maps or bouchers
    Laptop (and it charger)
    cell phone charger
Snacks ( chocolate bars, chips ...)
    A bottle of water
Chapsticks bars lol ( Sf is windy right away)

I worte this list based on my trips hope this helps

  • Snacks, water, map, camera. And bring layers of clothing; right now it_s warm in the afternoon but very cool at night and in the morning.

  • Most definitely, take a pillow!

  • bring a jacket. it is starting to cool down here in the evenings and over night hours. the city can be chilly/breezy.

What do you like better the beach or the mountains?|184603

I love going to the beach and the mountains! My family goes to both every year! Which one do you like better?

  • I love them both...........I live in Florida and have for years but missed the mountains so much, we bought a vacation cabin in Blue Ridge, GA (90 min North of Atlanta).

Now I have the best of both!

  • the beach. Love just sitting at Lake Michigan watching the beautiful sunset going boating. The further north you go more the more beautiful View you have at lake michigan. I love spending time on the lake. At least lake michigan is really safe to swim in no matter how far out you go. or just renting a cabin or going camping in a tent at one of the 2000 inland lakes we have here .

  • i love both, thats why i luv California so much, because we have both, and u don_t have to go far to see it all...california is the only state in the US where u can surf, and snowboard in the same day.

  • I spent my summers at the beach in the mountains. It_s called Lake Tahoe! But to me, nothing beats the beach on the ocean. Even though the Pacific is pretty cold.

  • I love both too, but if I have to choose one I_d say the mountains because I love to ski.

  • both equally---thats why i live in maine, we have miles of sandy beaches in southern maine plus the mountains inland

  • mountains. my family used to vaca down the jersey shore for years, kinda sick of it.

  • Wowouch hard question i Luv them both but I would choose the beach:)
  • Help me please -- I am trying to figure out the time difference from Australia to three places in the US help?|170647

I tried to figure it out on the computer but it is just too much or this blonde senior citizen to figure.

Right now it is about 12:30 PM in Hobart Tasmania. I need to know what time it is in Atlanta, Georgia USA, Bismark, N.D. USA and Tucson, Arizona USA -- can anyone please tell me and help me. Thanks so much.

  • Atlanta = 8:30pm Jan 17th

    Bismark = 6:30pm Jan 17th

    Tucson = 6:30pm Jan 17th (I think)

The U.S changes times twice a year but Arizona doesn_t. In the spring we jump forward an hour and in the fall we go back an hour but I can_t remember when my city is on the same time as Tuscon.

  • I believe Holly is right. That is confussing when the States go on Daylight Savings and one doesn_t.
  • I will be walking the USA coast to coast. How can I get sponsors to help fund my trip?|163119

I have some money saved up(about $1700), but I know I will need some sponsorship. I plan on starting in Maine in July and head toward New York, then go southwest for winter before heading west for California. I am also thinking about charities to collect money for, too. I am 20 years old.

  • Find a charity, CF, MS, Komen B C R, or something else, and they resubmit this question with a link to the charities website where people (like me) can donate/contribute.

That is how this type of endeavor works best.

    Good luck to you.

  • Heh! Maybe you could get Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurants to sponsor you in an advertising campaign (remember when Forrest Gump trekked cross-country in the movie?).

    http://www.bubbagump.com/

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bubba_Gump_

  • Definitely you will need more the 1700, I admire your drive though.

When you talk to national sponsors such as the ones noted already, tell them you are willing to talk to media along the way and give them good press... that usually butters them up quite a bit.

  • WOW! You are one determined man, Glenn! I would suggest telling everyone in your community about the walk. They would be willing to donate, espicially if they knew you personally. Then, contact national sponsers, like Kohl_s, KMart, Circut City, et cetera. Tell them you will be wearing a shirt with their logo, and GOOD LUCK!

I live in louisiana and want to go to ocean city, the most convenient route i found out was louisiana- philadelphia airport- Salisbury airport- Ocean city. But, i don_t know what to do when i get off at salisbury? I would appreciate other routes as well.

  • Take a cab to downtown Salisbury and catch the Greyhound from Salisbury to Ocean City.

Or you could fly into Baltimore instead of Philly, take the train into downtown, and catch a Greyhound bus directly from there.

  • You would rent a car and get on Route 50 East. You are not very far from Ocean City and Rt. 50 goes right straight to it. Why come from Louisiana to Ocean City, MD, seems like lots of other places a lot more interesting to see the Atlantic.
  • How can I be a part of feeding the homeless on Thanksgiving in NYC?|106736

I want to help and be a part of feeding the homeless. Where do I go? What can I do?

  • There are many organization in NYC that you can contact, who will take volunteers for Thanksgiving. The link below is the websites for some of the organization.

    Good luck
    Native New Yorker

  • It_s nice that you want to help, but most organizations have more volunteers than they know what to do with on Thanksgiving and Christmas days. It_s all the other days that they really need help.
  • How many people have been to Medieval Times in Dallas,Tx and was it worth all its worked up to be?|182764

I want to take my husband for our 2 year anniversary I would like to know about how much $$ will be spent for the Dinner and the Show, on an average$$ amount and if its worth it to go? Only answer if you_ve been there and seen the show . Serious Answers only please.

  • I have not been there, but I have heard that the food is not very good, no utensils, and a very strong odor from the horses.

  • $59.10 Per adult.
It looks like it could be fun. See this Website.

  • $50.95 per person, for $10 more you can get preferred seating, Knights cheering banner, Medieval Times souvenir DVD, and commemorative program for each member of the party. I haven_t been in several years, but it_s really fun. The food_s just OK, you go for the show.

    https://tickets.medievaltimes.com/txhome

  • I thought it was fun but not something I would do again. I agree it is more fun for kids. Just another eating experience for me. Try the Melting Pot, can be romantic for the two of you or even the Mansion on Turtle Creek for your special occasion.

  • My wife and I went quite a while back, it was worth the money spent. I can_t remember exactly how much it cost, but pretty sure it was under 100.00 for everything including souviners.
The show was different, and something you don_t see everyday. The food and drink were good. We both enjoyed it.

  • I have been and I did see the show, but I did not pay. My boyfriend, his 10 y/o daughter and myself went. It was very entertaining...but I honestly think I enjoyed b/s his daughter enjoyed it so much. The food is good ( you eat with your hands) and there is a lot of auidence participation. The horses are beautiful...but if you want a nice anniversary night out...check out this restaruant called Catalina in Uptown area of Dallas. Very nice, romantic, with a excellent wine selection..just my 2 cents. Congrats on your anniversary.

  • You can do better for an anni but Medieval Times is great fun. If you want some sort of theme resturant for your anniversary Magic Time Machine might be a better choice. At least you can hear each other talk. Medival times is pretty loud most of the time.

  • I have been to the one in chicago and it was a good time. We spent about $65 (several years ago). Recommend going at least once.

  • Look around for discounts, there are a bunch out there for that place. The food is ok nothing special, but I really liked the show.

  • Oh please! This is going to be your anniversary celebration? This place is just a joke!

Look in the Friday entertainment section of the Dallas Morning News _ go someplace nice instead.

  • I went five years ago...it is totally for children. There is jousting, and the audience is assigned a _knight_ to cheer on. A great place to take kids...but, not really anniversary place for adults.

I don_t really remember the price...but, the food was limited...had a very limited choice of two meats....the side dishes were cold...and of course everything was served on metal plates.

I don_t think people go there for the food...they go for the entertainment.

Why not go to a comedy club....like the one in Addison...they have dinner and a show....definitely more for adults....or, just go to a nice dinner, and then home for a little romance?

  • I can_t believe you never asked me... I took Doug last year for his birthday it was fantastic. we had a ball I have a DVD if you want to see some picture it is a little costly but well worth it...Love Aunt B

Could someone suggest a bike rental place amp; a scenic bike trail in ny?|153792

I will be visiting nyc soon and am planning to do this with my friend on a saturday morning. Are rental places close to scenic bike trails? Sorry am lost. Help appreciated!

  • I saw your three posts and you really are trying to fill that Saturday Morning time slot. I admire that.

Call that free Kayak place and try to determine the chances of you getting out on the Hudson. Anything free in NYC will be crowded.

If the Kayak appears not likely I suggest going to the boathouse in Central Park. Renting a row boat is OK, but right next to the rowboats is the Bicycle rental.

Rent a bike and enjoy the Jewel of Manhattan. Do spend sometime before hand with a map of the Park and determine where you wish to ride. Just a couple of things not on any maps.

If the weather is nice there will be street shows and musicians at Bethesda Fountain, also just a bit west of the Band Shell (right across the road from Bethesda) watch the roller skaters put on a show.

When you want a bite to eat, return to the Boathouse. Grab a burger or get a nice sandwich there. This is the best food in the park (cheap also). The owner of the fancy restaurant there agreed with the city to open the section with really good fast food and he has done a very good job.

  • in central park.......

Where is the best place to dance for older crowds in Phoenix?|151409

I like to go to clubs with the older set 30s 40s and 50s and I am going to be there on vacation with a friend soon and we thought it would be fun to go out dancing somewhere. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

  • Try clubs and bar scenes in North Scottsdale and in the Surprise areas. The people that live in those areas tend to be more te 30s/40s/50s crowd. I would avoid Downtown PHX, that_s where my age group hangs and we_re bloody insane, lol. The Amsterdam downtown tends to be a free-for-all though. It_s nice. There are people from all age groups. I go there with friends and have seen people clubbing with their parents and a couple that went with grandparents even. It_s a fun atmosphere and they don_t allow for all the _dirty_ stuff that happens in the younger clubs.

  • Try Tom Ryans on friday or saturday nights if you like country in chandler cheap drinks no cover

    www.myspace.com/tomryanslounge

  • Mesa has some blues and oldies.
Maybe Snotsdale or Tempe I like the square but it might not have old timer stuff.
  • What should me and my boyfriend do at Myrtle Beach without his family around thats cheap?|166307

  • What is the safest NYC Hostel to stay at?|198010

Me and my 2 friends are going to go to NYC this October, I_ve been assigned with the bulk of the planning.. and I_m having trouble with where to stay.

We are on a tight budget, so we don_t want to splurge on the hotel, it is becoming clear that a Hostel will probably be the way to go.

Any suggestions? We want something safe of course, any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • While I can_t help you with personal experience with Hostels, I can get you pointed in the right direction. First here is how to find NYC hostels:
    http://www.hostels.com/us.ny.ny.html

And then I highly recommend looking the ones that you can afford and interest you on TripAdvisor.com - you_ll get honest reviews from real people on there. For example, you_ll see that the Chelsea Center Hostel rates pretty well:
    http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g60763

    Good luck!!

  • Check the list at http://www.hostelio.com/usa/new-york-city/
It sorts hostels with price ascending. Also pay attention to the ratings...

I usually try to find the lowest price with highest rating...

  • The YMCA_s have guest rooms. Some have private restrooms and you can use their gym facilities.

    Have a fun trip!
  • How much does the Marilyn Monroe suite at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel cost?|163044

Me and two of my friends wanna take a trip to California soon and we were hoping to stay in that suite. I wanted to know like a ballpark area of how much it_s gonna cost and if three people can stay in there.
Never been to Cali and I am very excited to see it. Please let me know. Thanks.

  • Marilyn lived in one of the bungalows on the pool, and her personal mirror is on the second floor near the elevator. Figure on between 3 and 4 hundred per night. I must admit, the hotel is a little dark and spooky but its a blast staying there. There is usually a party every night on the pool and there are always a-list movie stars there.

  • Most people living in the Los Angeles area don_t need to stay in a hotel very often. We have our own homes/apartments.

Why don_t you try calling the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and ask them yourself. They won_t bite. Their toll free number is 1-800-950-7667. It won_t cost you anything, and you_ll know exactly how much. Please note that most hotels will not rent to unchaperoned teens (if you fit in that category). They tend to disturb other guests, and damage the rooms.

When you do come PLEASE, do not refer to our state as _Cali_. Most of us find it insulting to equate our state with a drug city in South America (Cali, Colombia). People living in other states, and Californians too young to understand that the term _Cali_ is intended to be a put down are the only ones that call our state _Cali_.

  • More coin than i got.. peedle said it best .. I don_t think i can add to that, except I have no problem with the term _Cali_. When i see LA (as referring to Los Angeles) or Angelinos for the residents I have been known to go postal, though

Is it possible to get married jokingly in Vegas?|152421

My gf and I have this on-going joke about getting married in Las Vegas. Is it possible to go through the ceremony at the chapels without it being legally binding?

  • Not legal. You must show your marriage license or marriage certificate (for remarriage) in order for licensed person to perform ceremony.

  • Puzzling question. If it_s only the two of you, then you are both in on the joke, If you are trying to get wedding photos to fake your friends I imagine you could get it done, but I think most chapels would be nervous that they are going to get their name on a public scam.

  • Sure just pay them the money but dont have them sign the marriage license. Tell them you are already married and want to get remarried.

  • I don_t see the point in this. You probally could but they would still charge you the same as having a real wedding.

  • No, just ask Britney Spears
  • How long does it take for the bus from port authority bus terminal to Six Flags?|162452

Me and my friends want to go to six flags and decided to go by the bus. We already know that it leaves at gate 324 and is route 308 and the price is 53$.
However We just want to know how long it would take to get there.
because we would have to plan out breakfast and lunch before hand.
We_re going to go on monday.

  • Trip takes 90 minutes but does not run all the time.
If you miss the last bus, you need to take #139 bus to Freehold Center for #307 to Six Flags Great Adventure.

  • The trip takes about 90 minutes from New York City to Six Flags.

    Good luck and enjoy

  • fgire on 2 1/2 hours with traffic.

    enjoy this event.
  • Would it work if i moved to los angeles from oklahoma to start my independent life?|146675

  • Coming to LA to _pursue your dream_? It_s a stupid idea. And I can say that because I live here, and see the consequences of the thousands of young people with the same idea, all because they had to _pursue their dream_. Trouble is, 99.99% of them come here unprepared, unrealistic, with no money, no experience, no skills, and no plan.

You seem to be under the fantasy/delusion that you can just show up in _Hollywood_ and be _discovered_. That_s a myth. A fantasy. NEVER happens. EVER.

Want to know how people get _discovered_? It doesn_t just take a week:
    1. Go as much experience as you can. That means practice, practice, practice, every day. Most people don_t have the discipline to be any good. Do you have any experience as a photographer? LA is full of experienced photgraphers who are starving. And we have even more _models_.

    2. Next, you need contacts. By doing step 1, you_ll start to get contacts. You need them in this town. Because the way you get a contract is when someone in the business hears about you. And they aren_t going to search Hollywood to find you.

    3. You need an agent. Because your agent will have your portfolio, your head shot, and he/she_s the one with contacts in this industry. Your agent is the one that gets the calls. Your agent can set up the gigs in the really high profile places.

    4. You need money. Money to stay in LA while all this is going on. Money for workshops, camps, and classes while you improve your craft.

Expecting to come to LA and be discovered is unrealistic, and I_m sorry to say, pathetic. Feel free to come visit and enjoy the sights. But generally takes a month or more to make the right contacts so that you can get in on an open mic night.

If you wanted help, you got the best advice anyone can give you at this point. What you choose to do with it is up to you.

. Let_s do the math, shall we?

Coming to Socal out of HS, you_ll make minimum wage, which is currently $8 per hour. If you are lucky enough to get 40 hours per week, that_s 320 per week, or $1280 gross per month. And that_s BEFORE taxes. Take home is probably $910.

Now it_s a hard economic fact that you should spend around 1/3 of your salary on rent or mortgage. One third of $910 is about $300, which is what you can afford.

However, the average rent for a studio/bachelor/single apartment is about $1000, and a 1BR is about $1200. In order to afford that, you need to make at least $3000 per month.

Looks like you_re a little short.

  • You should have a job before moving ANYWHERE now.
But esp CA. It is in bad financial shape.

And someone to stay with until you find an apartment.
Unless you know someonethere already, there are many bad places to live and hard to know, if youre not from there..

Im worried that you may be too naive. Maybe youre not, but you need to be used to some big metro living...if youre going there on your own.

I lived in LA, and kids come there and get suckered into all kinds of bad things. Thinking they will be in show buxiness and such.

There are many con artists just waiting for kids unsure of where to go, and wanting to get into the glamor business, or acting.
The morgue is packed full of them. Seriously, I know.
Many _stars to be_ end up being owned by pimps.
I dont mean to scare you but this is the reality.
I dont want to see you harmed.

Its a fun place to live, but its 80 miles by 80 miles big. Lots different than Oklahoma. I now live not far from you and its soooo much safer here.
You need to trust no one. You need to visit first before packing it all up.

Cost. Its so expensive in LA, you most likely wont be able to afford an apt on your own. Im not trying to scare you, I just dont want you to end up homeless. There are homeless people all over and some have jobs. Its just rent is too expensive.

I was just looking on Realtor.com. There is nothing under $750 /mo

If you go, stick to the Valley or the coastal area. Hollywood isnt what you see on TV. Be careful there. .
I highly advise you to visit first.

  • Stay in OK. I live here in LA and trust me, I would rather be in Oklahoma.

  • Do not move out here. It doesn_t sound like you_re ready for this place. It_s no picnic.

  • I have actually been to Tulsa so this does not seem like that bad of an idea at all......
