Which of the NC beaches is the quietest and least developed?|160973

My family and I want to rent a home for a week this summer off the coast of North Carolina. I want something quiet and non-commercialized, but not difficult to get to by car. Any suggestions?

  • Anything that is easy to get to by car is developed.

If you have four wheel drive, drive north to Corolla. When the road ends keep driving up the beach to Cordova.
  • What is traffic like in the morning from DC to Baltimore?|129755

I_m desperate to find work and see plenty of jobs in Baltimore. I_ve lived in DC my whole life but always worked within the city. I know the Beltway is a horrible horrible traffic nightmare, but can I get a rough estimate of how long it_d take to get from NW DC to Baltimore during the morning commute?

  • Shooting up I-295 can get you from NW DC to Baltimore in 40-50 minutes even in rush hour, without ever using the DC or Baltimore beltways.

50 to 97 also works, maybe 45-55 mins

95 works too, but i avoid it, too many accidents and speed traps.

its not an hour heading north, even in bad traffic. it can take you as long to drive from NW DC to arlington.

  • You may want to consider driving to BWI, or other areas in Anne Arundel County, and taking the light rail into Baltimore City.

BTW, I_d like to know what kind of jobs your talking about. When I look at accounting jobs, I see Washington has about 10 times that of Baltimore.
  • What do people wear in palm springs, california?|194204

I live in new york, and I_m wondering what people usually wear in palm springs, california? I heard its a dessert, and I dont want to look awkward. Im going to palm springs in early november. Also, how cold is it there? What are the weather flunctuations? Is it okay to wear boots and stuff? Do people wear high heels all the time also, or are flip flops okay?

  • Laid back and casual. Sandals or sneaks or boots or crocs, jeans or khakis or leggings or whatever_s comfy, and whatever works on top (tanks, t_s, sweaters, hoodies ...)

It_s a desert, so bring your lip balms and lotions, because you_ll need them. Plan on being thirsty all the time from the dry air, which will suck every molecule of possible moisture from your entire body.

As for looking awkward, this is California - remember? The land of anything goes, the land of flakes, fruits and nuts. We_re just one big, happy bowl of granola out here, so I_m sure you_ll fit right in no matter what you wear, but if you go for classic pieces that fit well and are comfy, you_ll be just fine. If you do want to make a statement, however, make it with your shoes, and your jewelry. One thing you won_t need is a blazer of any kind, or any kind of fitted jacket unless you_re here for business, or unless it looks rockin_ with a pair of jeans and some strappy high heeled sandals.

As for how cold it_ll be, plan on warm days into the 70_s or possibly up into the 80_s, but brisk nights into the 50_s (well, the 50_s are brisk to us Los Angelenos, anyway).

Keep your eye on this site

the closer you get to your date for travel. We do, on occasion, get rain but not usually in November, so it_s not likely ... but it_s possible. I just looked in on the almanac, and today it was 69 degrees in Palm Springs, but a year ago it was over 100, and 2 years ago it was in the high 90s. Maybe you can enter the dates you plan to travel and see how it_s been for the last 5 years for an idea of what to expect. That_s an idea :D

    Have a great time !!

  • By November, it_s warm during the day (high 70s to low 80s) and quite cold at night (40s). My sister lives down there and when I visit I usually take a pair of jeans and a pair of shorts, a t-shirt, sweatshirt, and a leather jacket. I truly change my clothes in the evening as it starts to cool down because the temp differences are so much more extreme than L.A. You_d like fine in boots and stuff but people are generally more laid back (Tommy Bahama style) in Palm Springs than they are in L.A. so I_d just focus on casual wear if I were you.

  • a lot of summer clothes its freaken hot there
  • How can i go to niagara falls without entering canada ?|107204

My friends and I planned a trip to Niagara falls this week end. So, I searched the location in the Google maps[from the location 630 Merrick street, Detroit, MI 48202]. From the traveling directions, one of the direction was given as partially entering Canada and after 2-3 directions it was again entering United States. Is it necessary for me to get a Visa when entering Canada here.
Is it possible to get traaveling directions without entering Canada.
Are there any sightseeing places before going to Niagara falls.

  • Since you_re driving and not flying, and as long as you this before the end of this year, you each only need a drivers license or DMV ID and birth certificate. You can also use a passport, which you will need starting in January. The view of the falls is much better from the Canadian side, so if you want a good view of the falls, you_ll want to enter Canada anyway.

But if you want to drive entirely in the US, take I-75 south to I-90 east. Once you get into New York, take exit 53 for I-190 North. Take the exit for Niagara Falls Blvd. and follow the signs to the business district and falls. This route does add about 150 miles and 2 1/2 hours to your trip though, as opposed to the one that goes through Canada.

  • I am curious why you do not want to enter Canada. Are you an American citizen? if so, you do not need either a visa or a passport to enter Cnaada. You can see the Falls from the American side, but the best views and most things to do are on the Canadian side.

  • you do not need a visa to enter Canada but i believe you do need a passport....notwithstanding you can get to Niagara falls without going thru Canada...when i checked yahoo maps i entered Niagara falls NY as the destination and it shows a southern route which looks fairly straightforward...try it

  • Stay on the United States side-you get a better view of the falls from there anyway!

  • Yes, Niagara Falls, NY is just north of Buffalo, NY. If you are in Michigan, it means coming down through Ohio, PA, and up into NY, but it_s worth it for a nice trip! Buffalo has many things to do, and if you want to go east, Rochester and the Finger Lakes are also nice (if you have time, Letchworth State Park is beautiful in the fall).

  • Assuming you are American, no you do not need a visa to visit or enter Canada. You may need a passport, and definitely will have to have photo identification (drivers license). To get to Niagara Falls, New York (there is Niagara Falls, Ontario), you will have to drive through Ohio south of Lake Erie. It may be longer, but it is definitely possible.
  • How do you get to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC by train?|104422

I have to go there for one of my social studies projects and I_m verry confused lol. I_m in Brooklyn btw.

  • Take the 4 or 5 express trains to 86th St. and walk west to 5th Ave. On 5th go left for a couple blocks to the Museum.

The 6 train is the local and it will stop on 77th and from there you can go west to 5th Ave. Then go right to the Museum.

Your choice. Either way allow 15 minutes for the walk to 5th Ave, it_s not a short walk.

  • The 4,5,6 train is the only one that goes up the east side. Take the 6 train to 77th St station, walk west to 5th avenue, then up 5th avenue to the Met at 82nd.
  • Where is the best place to live in the northern California area?|105782

My boyfriend and I are thinking about moving to California from Connecticut. We like hiking, camping, and spending time outdoors. We would also like to live somewhere relatively inexpensive, and be able to find jobs fairly quickly.
    All help is greatly appreciated!

  • Hi,

I live in Sparks, Nevada(born _ raised), but I used to live in Carmel, CA.-It is beautiful, near Big Sur-I can_t get enought of the ocean! But...very expensive-I also lived at Lake Tahoe(nevada side-Incline Villlage)Tahoe is one of the most beautiful places you will ever see--unbelievable lake surrounded by mountains, and small towns,ie;.-On the California side there_s Kings Beach,Tahoe City,(just to name a few) -and Truckee, CA are all in the general vicinity-Depending where you live it can be very expensive or rustic and very reasonable-But if you are into the outdoors you can_t beat the views and fresh air!

    Good Luck,

    Tamara

  • san luis obispo or ojai

  • How long does it take to drive from kentucky to Indianna and from kentucky to illnois?|179787

So your starting point is Harlan, KY. But you want to go where? Indianapolis is in the center of the state.
The Kentucky/Indiana border is over 200 miles.
The Indiana/Illinois border is well over 300 miles.

Here_s a map you can use. Simply plug in your starting and ending points.

    http://www.yahoo.com/r/7z

  • it depends how far into kentucky, illinois, and indiana but it can be a matter of hours minutes ...mapquest it
  • What is the best way to fly from Lucca, Italy to Philadelphia PA?|106742

I will arrive in Rome, take a tour thru Globus and then return to Lucca, Italy for a few days. I need a suggestion for a Hotel for six people. Then I need to return to the USA to Philadelphia, PA. Do I take a train back to Rome, then fly from there?

  • That would probably work. USAir goes non-stop from Rome to Philly. I just checked a few prices and they were very reasonable - less than $250 for a few randomly selected dates. I can_t imagine that you could do much better than that.

They have a trip planner on their main page. Put in the date you want to fly. Note that most flights from Europe to the states on USAir leave late morning (and arrive mid-afternoon) - when you enter the approximate desired flight time, if you enter something besides that, you may get a _no match._
