How much do you need to make to live on your own in Long Island, NY?|101081

I was just wondering if other people out there knew how much you need to make in order to live comfortably in an apartment on Long Island. And also how much is needed between the both of you if you plan on moving in with another person.

  • If you want to rent and live comfortably...2 people need to make at least $2500.00 a month.

If you want to buy and live comfortably...2 people need to make at least $100K a year.
  • Where can I find a timeshare seminar to win a free trip to Vegas?|149480

I hear about people going to timeshare seminars and receiving free trips all the time. Where do I sign up? I want to go to Vegas in December and would love a free trip...haha.

  • Nothing is free. Time share seminars are high pressure. You have to guarantee the cost of the trip by credit card in some cases. And if you don_t do exactly what they want your card will be charged the full amount of the trip.

All of the ones that I know of only pay for hotel and maybe a show, all other expenses are yours.

I would suggest finding a good package if you are planning to go instead of _winning_ a _free_ trip

  • Walk into almost any casino lobby and when you see those annoying people, ushering others over to their kiosk, that_s who you_re looking for. They usually have some type of brochures or pamphlets with their company names on them. Be warned: their tactics are very, high pressure to make you buy into a timeshare deal (usually $20k or more over a certain time period) and also last about 2 hours. I suggest that you avoid these people as much as possible and enjoy your Vegas trip instead.

  • Not sure how you ever missed this one...but it seems to be on every single radio station I listen to. It_s Tonya Roberts advertising for Tahiti Village in Las Vegas. For some odd reason, they really push this place on the local (Las Vegas) stations???

    http://www.consolidatedresorts.com/prope

Keep in mind...they_re not bringing you in for a leisure trip...they want your money...badly. The pressure will be intense so make sure you are in the right frame of mind before attending their meetings. Do lots of research regarding Tahiti Village, or any other timeshare that you are getting a _free ride_ from. In my opinion, I_d rather pay the extra $300+ for rooms so that I wouldn_t have to deal with the high-pressure salespeople.

  • I know of three off the top of my head...one in downtown San Diego..They usually have to call you (phone calls originating in the Philippines) but email this woman
    _Claudia_

    claud_trendwest@yahoo.com
...she sells seminar space for TrendWest/Wyndham
    or...Pacific Monarch.
email me for what to say or do at the seminars...

  • There is an OPC ( timeshare marketing guy ) offering those kind of deals at the forum of

  • Which island in Hawaii is best for newlyweds?|134313

My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon and are wondering which island is best for newlyweds? We are pretty low key, aren_t that into planned activities, haven_t been to Hawaii, and just want to relax in a beautiful place together. We have a moderate budget, so we can_t afford anything too luxurious. Which island have you had the best experience at?

  • Kona on the Big Island has some nice beaches. It_s a cute little town. The other side, (east side) of the big island is also very nice.. very lush and tropical.

Kaui is very beautiful but.. if you go in the winter, when I did, there is a change it will rain. A lot. I went a couple christmases ago, and spent the whole time inside because it was so gloomy.. But i_m sure it was just the time of year.

Maui, is gorgeous. Maui was the first place I thought of when I read your question. Beautiful beaches - and they aren_t as crowded as on Oahu.

It_s a tie between the big Island and Maui, but i_m leanin more towards Maui.

    Have a wonderful trip!

  • Kauai. Hit there, rent a condo, buy a cheap grill, go to Polihale. Remember-
-Go to Poipu for faboo waves and great surfing (great lessons)
    -Lydgate, great for beginning snorklers
-Waimea Canyon-just....breathtaking. Hikes are long and kind of strenuous, but we hiked down to a huge waterfall. Amazing.
-Polihale Beach. Hard for swimming, but it_s like 5 miles long, no one_s there, and there_s a sunset there like no one_s business. Look out into the horizon-that big island? Niihau. It_s restricted for natives.
-The Botantical Gardens. Fascinating tours, just bring water.
-Puka Dogs in this shopping center near Poipu. Get a vegetarian one with lilikoi mayonnaise.
-If you want, you can go to Oahu for a day for shopping or something. Whatever works.

All in all, not horribly expensive, not horribly cheap. Get ahead with frequent flier miles and you_re good.

  • Kauai is definitely best in my opinion. It_s called the garden island for a reason. My family has a time share in Poipu and I see newlyweds there quite a bit. Really good snorkeling around the island. Kipu falls, if the water is clear, is always fun. It_s a pretty laid back island with beautiful scenery. Lotta movies were shot there (jurassic park, parts of rambo 2, tropic thunder to name a few). Course, it_s the scenery island. For a more metropolitan experience, I_d suggest Maui or Oahu.

    Congratulations =)

  • kawaii :)
    oh so romantic

  • Best hotel to stay in Seattle without a car and travel help?|183591

MY sister and I are planning a trip and we are not sure when to go or where to stay, Ihave done some research, but I would like some info from the people who live there and have visited there..

Where is the best place to stay in Seattle, such as in walking distance or ride for cheap, and do I need a car? What types of trasportation is there around the hotels that are cheap.... Also, what are the best sites to see, that are the best places to go! What are the cheapest and less crowded months to go? (I know this is a lot to ask!!)

Try this website for Seattle hotels.

If you are a tourist, I would not recommend staying in the U district, unless you really need a cheap place to stay. It_s too far away from most of the major attractions. Hotels downtown also run specials in the off season, and you can stay at some pretty nice places for pretty cheap.

Seattle has a free ride bus zone through most of downtown. The bus routes are very extensive and easy to follow. Here_s a link to help you:
    http://transit.metrokc.gov/tops/bus/area

There is also the Monorail that takes you from the downtown shopping district to the seattle center (space needle).

I would say the best time to visit Seattle is September or October. We typically still have good weather (by Seattle standards) and the crowds have gone. Otherwise, we usually get a really nice week (sunny) in February and May.

If you are really on a budget, and up for a little adventure, the Green Tortiose Hostel is located right downtown, blocks from Pike Place Market and Shopping.
    http://www.greentortoise.net/

  • residence inn by marriott is a good hotel to stay at

  • Stay in the University District (U District) near the Univ of Washington or downtown. Off season, now through February, you can get a cheap hotel. Buses are very convenient to every part of King County, including all parts of the city of Seattle. Downtown is about 2 miles long, end to end. Go 4 miles and you have seen most of the important sites. If you rent a car for a few days, you can go to all places from Olympia to Mt St Helen, Tacoma, San Juan Islands to Victoria and Vancouver, BC. Sandy beach to the snowy mountain in 1 hour... or less.

U District has loads of culture and cheap eats, bars, dance clubs, museums ... and is only 10 minutes from downtown. You get a flavor of the real city - not the central city _fake_ city only...live a little, learn a lot.

What are the best restaurants and shopping venues in Washington DC?|155504

I am going to DC for the 1st time in April and don_t want to miss out on something great. Any suggestions?

  • I think that the best shopping in Washington DC is in Northern Virginia. It is at Tysons Corners Mall which is the largest mall in the Washington DC metro area. There website is www.shoptysons.com Also try Pentagon City mall which is also a fantastic mall. Their website is www.simons.com

  • To see all the attractions, restaurants, shopping areas, etc. visit this site:

    http://www.washingtondckids.com/

it will give you all the answers to your questions.
  • What are some good places to stop for a road trip from Texas to Pensacola, Florida?|147390

There will be four of us going on the road trip from East Texas to Pensacola, Florida. It will be a four day trip. What are some good stops and eats along the way?

  • I live in East Texas and though it has been many years ago, I traveled to Pensacola FL on a high school band trip. We traveled Interstate 20 the entire trip as I recall, stopping to eat in Shreveport. We made a stop in Mobile, AL at the USS Alabama Battleship. That was very interesting and I would recommend that if it_s still docked there.

Sorry I don_t remember that much! I was having too much fun on the bus trip, but I do remember that it was a really nice trip! Be safe and have fun!

  • I_d like to mount a campaign to encourage people not to go anywhere. Travel has become so expensive and unpleasant that it_s hard to understand why people don_t stay home.
Why are we crowding our highways and airports to get someplace else? Newspapers and magazines are filled with ads trying to get us to travel. They want us to go somewhere - anywhere but home.
  • How long should I plan on staying at the Grand Canyon?|136480

My husband and I are not in the best of health, and won_t be able to hike trails no matter how hard we might train. We will be going in the spring, flying in and out of Las Vegas. Any and all information beyond what is on the official site is welcome.

  • If you leave Las Vegas in the morning heading for GCNP [about 5 hours _ get gas in Kingman ] I would spend 2 nights in the Park and one night in St George UT
When you leave GCNP use the Desert View exit , downhill on SR 64 to the jct of US 89 @ Cameron AZ ,get gas
North on US 89 past the US 89 A turn-off
Up the switchbacks to the scenic overlook on the left
Do the over look _Just awesome even by AZ standards
    Back down the switch backs
    Make a right on US 89A _
Cross The Colorado on the New Navajo Bridge

    http://www.nps.gov/glca/historyculture/n

Make a right following signs for Lees Ferry
Do that and dip your toes in the Rio
Back to 89A Make a right and go up and over the top of the North Rim of GCNP
to Kanab UT where you meet US 89 once again
To the junction of SR 9 at Mount Carmel Junction UT
Downhill to and thru Zion NP and then onto St George
    Safe trip
    Notes
From Ashfork to Hurricane you will be above 5000_
The S.Rim is at 7000 , the N.Rim is about 1000 feet higher
Know that if you do hit snow , you can get out of it by getting below 5-6000_
    Enjoy the Canyon
    __
    Edit
From St George UT to LAS is a short fast _2 hour trip that begins a fast curvy descent of the always spectacular Virgin River Gorge

How is the weather of Buffalo NY as compared to Boston?|168581

Hello I might move from Boston to Buffalo and would like to know How is the weather of Buffalo NY as compared to Boston. I am more concerned of cold weather then snow. Kindly advice. Thanks.

  • I dont know about Boston, but I do know Buffalo having lived here for 17 years. It is pretty harsh in the winter when it comes to snow especially in the southtowns. Areas like the Tonawandas, Grand Island, and Niagara Falls are generally less affected, but still experience snow. The lake-effect normally lands in the city and below. Summers are about 80 degrees in the city, and again, cooler heading North. Any area around the water will be about 10 degrees cooler. It starts to get cold around halloween and finally begins to snow by mid-december (we didnt have snow for this past christmas though). Any more specific questions, I would be happy to answer.
  • Is it true that there is a singles night at the hyde park Kroger?|151656

If this is the case, has anybody been there first hand? If so, what_s it like? And are there any other good places if Cincinnati to meet people beside bars?

  • I have no idea about Kroger having a singles night. However as for meeting singles in Cincinnati , you should do what it is
you like doing. This is the only way to meet a single person who likes doing the same things you like doing.Unless of course you want to meet a single person who does not like
doing the same things as you. Then you need to think _what kind of single person am I looking to find_.

If you are looking for a church type then start attending different churchs

If you like a single person who likes flowers then start at the Krohn
    Conservatory in Eden Park.

Not to many singles at the Zoo
but what the heck it is a nice place to go when it is not hot.Animals are a lot like humans when it gets hot they just
    lay around.

If you want a single who likes art then try the Art Museum in Eden Park.

If you like a well read single then the
library is the place for you.

You want a single who shoots a little pool then a nice pool hall would be a good place to start.
Maybe Snookers or Micheals.Albeit Snookers is getting more like a bar than pool hall.

Now if you are looking for a single who likes staying fit then join a local work out joint and sweat till you meet another sweating single.

If you like to meet a single who is trying to loose weight then you may try a weight watches meeting place. Be for warned most over weight people stay that way.

You see it is a simple solution to your problem go where singles go who enjoy doing what they do.This has always puzzled me why people say that they can never meet a nice single person till they tell me they work and go to bars. Then I just look at them and say duh.

Oh yea if you are looking for a nice Republican or Democrat then look up their party numbers and volunteer.

I hope this helps if not then go to one of the laundrymats in Norwood and you will probably find a single there most every night.

  • I_ve heard that Tuesday evenings are pretty popular. I_m not sure on that specific time. I read it in the Enquirer once. I don_t think it_s anything official.

The Methodist Church on Observatory and Grace has a singles group on Sunday evenings. You can smell the pheromones a half a mile away.

  • Many grocery stores used to run similar promotions (a couple of decades ago). I do know a radio station recently tried that at the Hyde Park Kroger, but it died quickly.

As was stated before, find a store that has a wine tasting, or a church that has a singles night.

I might also suggest Hap_s Irish Pub on a weeknight. There is a diverse group of regulars there (some older couples, some younger singles, some older singles), and lots of social groups that meet there once a week. I am not one to suggest going to a bar to meet somebody (unless you just want a one nighter), but Hap_s may be a good place to go to.

  • I actually live within blocks of that store and walk to shop there often. I do see a lot of the college/recent-graduate age folks of Oakley/Hyde Park/Mt. Lookout there. I notice WAY more couples than I do singles though. The majority of those who are not there with a significant other rarely tear themselves away from their cell phone. I_d look elsewhere for better prospects.

I remember reading the same thing about an unofficial singles night when I first came to town. I think the Flying Pig course description mentions it while describing the Hyde Park portion of the marathon route. If you go, any given night might be better than another, but I definitely don_t think any will jump out as a semi-organized _singles night_.

  • I dont think so. Every time Ive been there, its pretty much been the standard Hyde Park type crowd that you see everyplace else in HP. No real singles concentration. How about meeting a girl at a Reds game or go tailgating with some friends at the upcoming Bengals games? There are always a decent number of hot women at both places, and as a bonus, you know that they have at least a small interest in sports if they are there.

  • I hear that there is a singles night at the Hyde Park Kroger. They say that you can tell those who are single carry a basket while shopping and those who push a shopping cart are married.

The Vineyard Church has a singles night I think every Thursday night. If your company has a softball team, you can join and meet singles, especially if the team is co-ed since you will be playing other co-ed teams from around the area.

  • I_ve not heard of a singles night but I_ve heard about a ladies night at the Kroger_s in Hyde Park. A bar is definitely not a good place to meet a mate unless you like that kind of stuff. Try a nice coffee house.

  • Unofficially Tuesdays and Thursdays - however, when I lived in Cinci and shopped there I never noticed an abundance of singles shopping. Wouldn_t bank on it to find a date . . . .

  • You could go to the Party Source in Newport. They have weekly wine tastings. I have lived in Cincinnati all my life, but I have heard that it can be really hard to meet people here. You could sign up for an art or cooking class.

  • Do any of you guys want to get a Cincinnati Y!A peeps going? Add me as a contact. We could meet once in a while to sip a drink and gripe.
  • Can you ride the rides at Disney World while having a cast becuase of a broken arm?|120908

We are going to Disney World in 5 weeks, my 15 year old just broke his arm, and will have a cast on up to just below his elbow. Is this going to restrict him from going on any rides?

  • Nah, he can still go on the rides. Just tell him to hang on tight on the speedy rides.

  • I can_t think of any reason he shouldn_t be able to go on if it_s just from his hand to his elbow. Even the thrill rides shouldn_t be a problem. The only thing they worry about is pregnancy, heart conditions, things like that.

    Have fun!

  • Maybe some rollercoaster wont let him on it because he could injured even badly. I_m really sorry, but he still wacth shows and parades. There is more than roller coasters in disney world.

  • He could technically ride anything with a cast on, but I would suggest not going on some of the big roller coasters. Other than that, he should be fine. Have fun!!!

  • He will be able to go on all the rides. My brother broke his arm right before my family went to Disney world a few years back and he was able to go on all the rides.

  • He should be able to go on all the rides..a couple of years ago I hurt my arm pretty bad. I was able to do everything!

  • Not at all. Have fun!
  • How inexpensively can I live in New York City?|133427

Basically, here_s the deal: I_m planning on moving to NYC in around January of 2008, and to plan ahead, I_m wondering what would be the least amount I could expect to pay in housing expenses per month, whether I_m renting or owning. Ideally, I_d prefer to live in Manhattan but I_d be open to any of the burroughs as long as it_s safe and I_d be able to commute to the city for work. Thanks in advance, answering this will help me out a lot.

  • Here is a site that you can enquire...good for a ballpark figure...it calls $13 to 1500/mo _basic_ and $15-1800/mo _midrange_ rent for a one-bedroom, one bathroom apartment in Manhatten...
    Manhattan Apartment Search Inquiry Form...

    http://www.manhattanhomeapartments.com/i

  • u live under a bench...hahaha. jk. i dont know

  • If you don_t mind being off the main island, Staten Island is actually still fairly affordable as opposed to Manhattan (1 bedroom for anywhere from 7-900). Parts of brooklyn are also fairly affordable and still safe (Brighton, Sheepshead Bay, Bensonhurst).

  • Prepare to spend a lot of money for a very small space, probably a 4th or 5th floor walk-up. it will probably be so small that a 14-inch TV will seem like a 36-inch one because that_s how close you will be.

I remember about 10 years ago looking at an apartment building for sale in Hoboken, NJ, just across the Hudson River from Manhattan. It was a 4 story row house. One of the things that impressed me was that in the kitchens was a sort of strange flip-up table. When you flipped up the table, there was the toilet, right in the middle of the kitchen floor. Real estate is at such a premium near New York City you can expect oddities like this.

  • lets see... easily 1500 for a studio in mahattan....

  • Depends on your neighborhood.

Try the lower east side if you_re looking on the cheap - and look for buildings without the flash (i.e. a old 4-story walk-up is going to be much more economical than the doorman/elevator building)

  • Check out for Ambrosia building 7th and 48. It has apartments for 800 dollars a month with deposit and last month (1600), water is expensive, and telephone is cheaper if you decide on cell phones for two years. Monthly outcome on water, cable and electricity is 200 a month. Rather save some for a car instead of paying fares a long time, it is no help in the long run. Attempt on a deal paying 1000 a month and buy the apartment. Bug and rat control is requisite every six months. If you plan to earn less than 1600 a month, uptown has apartments in Burgess or Carrad for 700 a month, same deal, 200 dollars saved on this. Get to buy it paying 900 a month, it more cash is needed, go for a coffee shop gig. Do not feed pigeons or rats will follow, if you see a roach it can cost 100 dollars for control, in uptown chances are you will encounter few rats, mostly from unoccupied apartments, even below. Go for 300 dollars more expense than in other states, even California or Connecticut.
  • Can a minor stay in a hotel room alone if a parent is in a different room in the same hotel?|133029

My family is going to go see my step-sister for her birthday. She lives with her mom, so my step-dad, mom, brother, sister, and I are driving up and staying in a hotel. What I was wondering is if I could stay in my own room since my mom is staying in the same hotel. Will they let me do that?

  • yes, they will let you. go crazy. slam the door all night long, raid the ice machine, put ice outside of other rooms, switch the door tags from do not disturb to maid make up the room now. set the alarm to go off for the next guest to check in after you, set it for 3:00am. whatever you do have fun.

  • The hotel room has to be booked by an adult, but once it_s booked they don_t care who stays in the room. An adult can book you a room in their name and give it to you to stay in, so that shouldn_t be a problem.

Some hotels won_t simply let a minor occupy a room by his/herself if there is NO adult involved, but it sounds like an adult will be nearby, you should be fine.

  • Yeah i have done that! my mom stayed in the room next door and they didn_t care at all just have your mom get two rooms they don_t need to know and plus as long as they get paid they don_t care who is in their rooms.

  • sure

they often rent connecting rooms or family rooms that are smaller than regular rooms.

it depends on what reservations they make and the cost.

also how full the hotel is. If you rent a huge suite they often have private rooms

  • Yes as long as there is a parent with you. You will be able to stay in a Hotel. For a parent must sign for the rooms and pay for it. Have fun dear !

  • I_m sure it won_t be a problem. I_ve done it plenty of times before with no confrontation. I doubt it_s even against policy.

  • They will let you do anything, as long as you have a parent around.

  • yup definently at least in south carolina they can...

  • Yes. We did that many times once our son was about age 11. I don_t recommend it before then.
  • What does the sunset at pearl harbor look like?|144127

    Pearl Harbor

    http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/im

  • The sunset is breathtaking!! Since money is no object, you should
fly to Oahu and visit. There are historical things like Pearl Harbor,
and also you could climb DiamondHead. The thing about the sun
sets in Hawaii, the sun drops very quickly, if you blink or turn your head, you could miss it. I know because my Mother wanted a pic
of me and called me to face her, when I turned around the sun was
down. I almost cried and I was an adult when this happened. I told
her the next day not to call me that I had to see the sunset. It was
different from any sunset I have ever seen and I have been to all 50 states and a number of foreign countries.
Start checking on flights and hotels and then you can answer this
    question when it_s posted.
  • Where can I find a list of all concerts in NYC on the 28th and 29th of August?|143060

Any kind of concerts, at any venue in the city.
Can you give me a link please?
    Thanks!

  • I would add
    http://www.pollstar.com
to the first person_s site only because that will cover the larger venues like Madison Square Garden if you_re looking for larger artists. But that site does seem to have most of it covered.

  • There isn_t really a comprehensive list of ALL the concerts in New York because the venue or the artist has keep the publishers of the lists up to date.

I would add jambase.com to the above 2 lists which are some of the best, but jambase allows artists themselves to post concerts so you_ll get more of the local, smaller shows there that the others don_t have.

this will give you pretty much every show going on NYC. It might not have everything for those days since it_s a couple months away, but if you check back closer to the date it_ll have everything :)

What are some things to know when traveling by train?|146504

In about two weeks, I_m going on a two day trip by train, with one transfer in Chicago. I_ve never traveled by train before, and I_m not really sure on what I_m going to need to remember. I_ll only be able to bring two bags as carry ons, no checked baggage allowed. One will be my guitar. The other an actual bag with stuff in it. I already know to get to the station early. That_s about all I know. Any and all advice is appreciated.

  • Firstly, your seat assignment will be made as you board. If you have a preference of window or aisle, be sure to tell the car attendant that when they_re assigning your seat. You may have a seatmate, you may not, but you_ll have quite a bit of legroom to play with. I_m assuming you_re going by coach rather than in one of the sleepers. Definitely take a blanket - the trains get cool at night and, while Amtrak usually sells them, do you really want to pay $10 for one? Bring a pillow if you_d like, but the attendants in each car will pass out airline pillows if you want one. Ear plugs are a good idea to bring along as well if you_re a light sleeper or in case someone in the car snores loudly.

In terms of bathing and grooming, if you_re in coach you have no access to a shower, so you may want to take a wash cloth and some soap to sponge-bathe in one of the bathrooms or some Wet Wipes to freshen up. It_s a good idea to bring a little toiletry bag with toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, a razor, shaving cream, a comb or hairbrush, and any over the counter meds you might want to bring (Rolaids, Tylenol, etc)

For entertainment and recreation, it_s a good idea to bring a book, MP3 player, portable DVD player, or the like. Be sure to bring headphones! The only word of warning is that not every seat may have a power outlet and you won_t know for sure until you actually get onboard. A deck of cards is usually a good idea and you can always find someone in the lounge car who might be interested in a game. Check to see what dining accomodations the train has - meals in the dining cars on Amtrak are about the same prices as you_d get at a Denny_s-type place ($7-$9 for breakfast, $6-$9 for lunch, and $9-$19 for dinner). If there_s a lounge car, you can buy packaged snack foods or microwaved meals - prepare to pay a little more than you would at the grocery store for this type of stuff. Amtrak takes both cash and credit, so either way you_re good. Be sure to tip just as you would in a restaurant though! You can also bring food/snacks onboard if you prefer, but be considerate to your fellow passengers and try not to bring anything onboard that smells too much.

If you smoke, Amtrak does not allow smoking on board, although at longer station stops you can get off the train and light up - just be sure to get back on when the conductor calls _All Aboard._

Above all, have fun - train travel is a fun experience and you get the chance to interact with your fellow passengers a lot more than you would if you were flying. Look out your window and enjoy the view, talk with other passengers, and just enjoy it.

  • Pack some snacks if you are going to be on the train for a long time and are likely to get hungry. Most trains will have a snack car - but the _snacks_ will be limited and priced higher than normal.

Also, bring something to do - magazines, book, laptop, etc.

Other than that, it_s smooth sailing.

What hotel is extremely close to Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel?|152130

Does anyone know any hotels? PLEASE and thank you(:

  • All Disney Resorts do not shuttle you to all other Disney resorts. I made this mistake once, staying at the Boardwalk. There are only shuttles from the resorts to the parks and to Downtown Disney. You would have to take a shuttle from the resort to a park, and then transfer to another bus. It could take possibly well up to an hour, if not more, to do this. If you don_t have the time, taking a cab usually costs no more than $15 and is direct.

That being said, I think you are right in trying to find a place near where you need to be. Here is a list of all the places nearby, some are Disney and some are not:

-Beach _ Yacht Club (Will be just as expensive as Swan _ Dolphin, probably more)
-Boardwalk Inn (Same price as Beach _ Yacht)
    -Disney_s Caribbean Beach
    -Wyndham Bonnet Creek Resort
    -Hilton Orlando Bonnect Creek Resort
    -Disney_s Coronado Springs Resort
    -Disney_s All Star Movies Resort
    -Disney_s Coronado Springs

Try going to this site, and putting in the address of The Swan _ Dolphin. It will give you a list of all hotels nearby.

    http://www.hotelsanddeals.com/address.ht

    Swan _ Dolphin Address:
Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin
    1500 Epcot Resorts Boulevard
    P.O. Box 22653
    Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830
    USA

  • The Swan and Dolphin are in the Epcot resort area witch means and they are all around a lake, and are put up close together.

hears a list of the hotels that are extremily close together

    The Boardwalk
    The Beach Club
    The Yacht Club
and is situated between Epcot and the Hollywood studios (they way it_s laid out though don_t look for those places the entrances are far away do to the parking lots)

there are allot more hotels close in that area but these are on the same street it_s boom boom boom, and if you are worried you can go enter one of the hotels go to the back and just walk to the Swan Dolphin.
look for the Epcot resort area

if you want extra info on it
the whole are in the back is this big boardwalk themed like the Conney island boardwalk that type place.

fun fact the Swan and dolphin on top where mixed up during construction.

you can also find a Fantasia gardens, its a mini golf course by the hotel.

  • Disneys all star resort and pop music. They are lower priced, but close. Also Disney Carri bean Beach resort is close. All the hotels on Disney Property will shuttle you for free to one another.

  • The Beach Club, the Yacht Club and the Boardwalk resorts are all a short walk from the Swan and Dolphin hotels as they are all considered Epcot resorts.

  • The Boardwalk and The Beach Resort!

  • oh crap.....
if you go to the nick resort its in the middle of all the parks
including: universal, disney, sea world, and the McDonald_s there
  • Where is Disney World can you find characters in dress up clothes?|148868

Where at in Disney World can you find characters outside their normal outfits? Such as how at Chef Mickey_s at the Contemporary, Mickey is dress as a chef, not his usual clothes. Do you know any places at any of the parks or hotels where I can find them dressed differently, and what they are wearing?

  • It depends on what time of year you are going.

If you go at halloween to Mickeys not-so-scary Halloween party, which is a separate ticketed event you can see characters in halloween costumes, mickey as a vampire, minnie as a witch, donald as a knight and daisy as a princess, others like peter pan and alice in wonderland often have masquerade type masks. Winnie the pooh is a bumblebee, Piglet a flower, Eeyore a mummy and Tigger a skeleton.

If you go at christmas to Mickeys very merry christmas party which is also a separate ticketed event you can see Goofy as santa at the dance party in cosmic rays sStarlightcafe, and you can also see pluto as a reindeer. Mickey and Minnie are wearing victorian style costumes, as are Donald and Daisy. Some other characters just wear scarves, like when I met Peter Pan and Wendy in Adventureland near Pirates of the Caribbean.

    Hope this helps!

  • Mickey Mouse does have a lot of different outfits, doesn_t he? Well I know all the different places to where hes in different clothing. Then you can take many pictures of him in different versions! :) Okay here_s the information:

~At Magic Kingdom he wears his usual clothing; a black composer suit with a red outfit underneath.

~At Disney_s Animal Kingdom he always/only wears a safari outfit. (So do the rest of the characters)

~In some parts of Hollywood Studios he is dressed in his usual clothing (from Magic Kingdom) and in other parts of the park he is dressed in his sorcerer outfit from Fantasia; which is a red robe and a blue sorcerer hat with gold moons and stars (the giant hat in the middle of the park is an exact replica of the hat Mickey wears in his Fantasia outfit).

~At Epcot he wears his usual clothing from Magic Kingdom and he also wears a japanese outfit from Japan at the World Showcase. (it_s very rare to see him in this clothing and can only be found in Japan)

~At Blizzard Beach/Typhoon Lagoon he wears a swimsuit and sunglasses for taking pictures with guests because there aren_t many characters at the water parks.

~And at some hotels he is dressed up as Chef Mickey in a chef outfit.

  • You can definitely find characters outside of their normal outfits at many Disney Resorts that offer character breakfasts such as the Beach Club, the Polynesian Resort, and the Contemporary Resort (that I can think of right now). At the Beach Club, the characters were wearing bathing suits/beach outfits; at the Polynesian, they were wearing grass skirts (even Chip and Dale!); and you know about the Contemporary ;)

You can see Mickey in his sorcerer outfit, Steamboat Willie outfit, his tux (regular outfit), and an outfit he wore in Fun and Fancy Free (like Jack _ the Beanstalk) in the show Fantasmic! This is a must-see!

Also, the characters wear different outfits in the parades at every park!

  • Hollywood studios he appears at Sorcerer mickey in Fantasmic and other Mickey costume types but you cant get up close its just for the show.

  • All of them are dressed differently if you visit the Animal Kingdom...as I recall, they are wearing safari outfits.
  • What are the beaches at on Jekyll Island?|132625

We went to Amelia last year but it was a bit pricey. We love Emerald Isle NC because it_s very quiet. We spend most of our time in the water or playing tennis but I_ve heard some bad things about jelly fish and brown water.

  • If you want crystal clear waters, JI will disappoint. The waters are murky. However, this is mainly due to silth and minerals entering the GA Coast from nearby beautiful marshes, not raw sewage.

It_s true that jellyfish can be numerous at times but this mostly an issue around the deeper waters of the JI pier and the island_s north end. The beachy areas are not infested. Beach authorities keep close watch on Jellyfish activities and wouldn_t hesitate to post warning flags when medium to high risk is posed. I guess there_s always the risk of running into a jellyfish when a human enters the Atlantic Ocean.

However, if you want wide beaches, JI is for you. If you want uncrowded beaches, JI is for you. If you want warm waters, JI is for you. If you want to walk 1/4 mile into the water and still only be chest deep, JI is for you. If you want non-touristy beaches, JI is for you. If you want nearly unspoiled costal beauty, JI is definitely for you. If you want an unassuming atmosphere, JI is for you. If you need to totally relax, JI is for you. If you want to enjoy one of GA_s best kept secrets, head straight for JI.
  • What were the three routes to California during the Gold Rush?|133023

Please name at least two pros and cons of each route.

  • nobody asked for a history lesson jiby

donner pass, probably the most famous

  • The California Gold Rush (1848C1855) began on January 24, 1848, when gold was discovered at Sutter_s Mill. As news of the discovery spread, some 300,000 people came to California from the rest of the United States and abroad.

These early gold-seekers, called _forty-niners,_ traveled to California by sailing ship and in covered wagons across the continent, often facing substantial hardships on the trip. While most of the newly-arrived were Americans, the Gold Rush also attracted tens of thousands from Latin America, Europe, Australia and Asia. At first, the prospectors retrieved the gold from streams and riverbeds using simple techniques, such as panning, and later developed more sophisticated methods of gold recovery that were adopted around the world. Gold worth billions of today_s dollars was recovered, leading to great wealth for a few; many, however, returned home with little more than they started with.

The effects of the Gold Rush were substantial. San Francisco grew from a tiny hamlet of tents to a boomtown, and roads, churches, schools and other towns were built. A system of laws and a government were created, leading to the admission of California as a state in 1850. New methods of transportation developed as steamships came into regular service and railroads were built. The business of agriculture, California_s next major growth field, was started on a wide scale throughout the state. However, the Gold Rush also had negative effects: Native Americans were attacked and pushed off traditional lands, and gold mining caused environmental harm
  • How much money would someone typically need to get set up in New York?|166735

If you wanted to move to New York City how much money would you typically need to have to get a decent enough place and get set up there? In what areas could you find cheaper but decent apartments or homes in safe neighborhoods?

  • Lots and lots. We here in the city are not all rich as I_m sure you know but it does cost more than what you may be expecting. I_m not sure what you mean by decent so I_ll assume you_re by yourself and would what a one bedroom apartment in a safe area. If that_s the case then Astoria in Queens is a good place to start. Typical apartments out there go for 1000-1500 a month. If you have a car then gas is about 4 a gallon. Since you_ll be in city you would have a hard time driving and getting parking space so you will most likely ride the subways. A metrocard (your ticket to ride so to speak) will cost you 2 dollars one way. It_s better to have an unlimited which costs 81 for a monthly, 45 for two weeks and 25 for a weekly. Utilities vary by building but you will most likely have a cable bill which can go for around 100, electricity bill which is different by building but will be anywhere from 60 to 200 in some places; a phone bill which can be like 40 to 50 and then your luxury bills like cell phones and internet. Then you have you groceries but that depends on you and then what ever else you_ll need to live your life like your toiletries and then your entertainment needs. In other words it_s a lot so start saving and good luck.

Where are some of the most scenic places to hike in Colorado during the summer?|140254

I_m interested in the mountainous area, where it is fairly isolated, and where there are occasional bodies of water, like lakes, rivers, and small streams, lying around. Just name me some of the most beautiful places with all those features!

  • I have lived in Colorado and hiked for 10 years. Here are my top 10 personal favorites:

    #1. Glacier Gorge

In my opinion this is the most beautiful spot in Rocky Mountain National Park. Spectacular scenery, beautiful wildflowers, cascading waterfalls, and beautiful alpine lakes are what you will find here.

#2. Blue Lake - Indian Peaks Wilderness

A wonderful day hike up to Blue Lake in the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area. This short hike takes you up to a beautiful alpine lake surrounded by stunning alpine peaks.

    #3. Bergen Peak

A beautiful hike up to the summit of Bergen Peak (9,708 feet). Expect to see wildlife, wildflowers along the trail, and excellent views from atop the summit. This is an excellent hike and a must-do.

    #4. Boulder County: Longs Peak

Located in north-central Colorado in the Front Range, about 70 miles northwest of Denver, and 10 miles southwest of Estes Park. The most famous Colorado climb, this alpine peak requires a long, strenuous hike.

    #5. Canyon Loop Trail

If Grandmas House were at trails end, this would be a fairy-tale through the woods experience. And nary a big bad wolf in sight The Canyon Loop Trail weaves through the expansive Betasso Preserve.

#6. Arapaho Pass Trail to Lake Dorothy

This is a fantastic day hike up to Lake Dorothy via the Arapaho Pass Trail, one of the best trails in the wilderness area for viewing wildflowers.

    #7. Lake County: Mount Elbert

Located in central Colorado in the Sawatch Range, about 11 miles southwest of Leadville, and 4 miles northwest of Twin Lakes Reservoir. The highest point in Colorado, this Fourteener provides a popular hiking spot.

    #8. Chasm Lake

Chasm Lake lies nestled in a rocky alpine cirque below the towering summits of Longs Peak (14,255 feet) and Mount Meeker (13,911 feet), the two highest summits in Rocky Mountain National Park.

    #9. Bear Peak

A strenuous but great hike up the summit of Bear Peak (8,461feet), one of Boulders most visible landmarks. The Bear Peak Trail follows Bear Creek up beautiful Bear Canyon, then makes a steep ascent.

    #10. Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness Trails

Nothing but superlatives roll off the tongue when contemplating the Maroon BellsCSnowmass Wilderness: the beautiful symmetry of the Maroon Bells, trails leading over nine passes above 12,000 feet.

  • There are dozens of beautiful trails where you don_t need to pay National Parks fees.

Jeffco Open Space has quite a few that fit your criteria, some that come to mind are White Ranch (especially upper White Ranch), Alderfer/Three Sisters, and Mathews/Winter

    http://www.co.jefferson.co.us/openspace/

Head up I-70 to Clear Creek County for Chicago Lakes and Hell_s Hole trails up Mt. Evans, Herman Gulch, Beaverbrook Watershed and Loch Lomond /Mt Caroline.

There are some beautiful state parks that are fairly close: Castlewood Canyon, Roxborough, Eldorado Canyon, and Goldengate Canyon. They do have a daily charge, but a yearly park pass is worth the investment if you do a lot of hiking.

    http://parks.state.co.us/

  • I agree with A. I. B. It really depends on how far you want to go, and what you are looking for. There are great nature hikes all over, from Pikes Peak to the Colo./Wyo. border. You could go to the national parks, or you could do some town hopping in Estes, Ft. Collins, Colorado Springs, Pueblo. All offer something for the eye, and a _bit more. I can remember walking along the Cache La Poudre river and picking wild berries and wild asparagus, etc. Watch out for the mushroom_s, tho_, _cause wild amanita_s grow there also.

  • Rocky Mountain National Park is the best place in terms of finding a lot of trails and great scenery.

    http://www.nps.gov/romo

Otherwise there are great hikes all over the place depending on where in Colorado you start from.

  • I_d say Garden of the Gods. I remember going there when I was little. It was fun.
  • I have 1/2 day only to spend at either Lanikai Beach or Waimanalo Beach with my wife, which 1 should I choose?|151726

I am planning a trip to Oahu, which one of these beaches should we visit instead? I_ve heard Lanikai is really beautiful but that you have to park in a neighborhood. And I_ve heard that Waimanalo is a nice quiet beach but that it could be dangerous with the locals. I want to make a good choice. We really wouldn_t have enough time to check out both.

  • It depends on what you_re looking for. They are both beautiful beaches.

Lanikai is the nicer of the two beaches as it has whiter sand and is in general cleaner. That being said however, there is no parking lot and you will have to find legal street parking and access the beach through the public accessway (please don_t park on people_s lawns or in their driveways, they tend to be very upset about that and you don_t want to return to your car to find it towed away!) AND there is no public restroom facilities at Lanikai.

Waimanalo is a more _local_ beach (meaning more locals frequent this beach) that has a parking lot and public restroom facilities, however, it tends to be windy there and depending on the weather that day can be quite choppy to swim in.

If you visit Waimanalo Beach, there is a local eating place right next to the beach park called Keneke_s that has awesome local food with big portions for small prices. I would HIGHLY recommend you try it! Lanikai has no eating facilities nearby and if you want food, you_ll have to bring it with you.

Hope that helps....good luck and happy travels!

  • I love Waimanalo Beach, especially where the Shriner_s Beach house is. I grew up at that beach. But, you may be missing one of the nicest beaches just past Laie, called Hukilau Beach. Nice sand, long beach and not crowded. With a parking lot right their, you can bring you drinks, snacks, etc. And the body surfing for beginners and advanced beginners is good too.

By the way, I hate what they have done to Hanauma Bay. Grownig up it was nice, it was great. Now--I am dissappointed--Auwe to the city and county.

  • lanikai beach.. heard its beautiful. you_ll might get a good chance to see some sea turtles on the shore basking. hehe.

  • i would go with lanikai, its much nicer, this one is safer too.

  • It is true you have to park along people_s driveways and front yards for Lanikai Beach, which is accessible by sanded walkways from the street. There are no restroom facilities at Lanikai, only private residences...no little snack shops or any business at all. Coolers and umbrellas are allowed. The water is crystal clear with shades of turquoise green.

Waimanalo Beach is more of a city park and is lined with types of pine trees, with needles and cones in the sand but they also provide shade for you and your vehicle. There are public restrooms and BBQ pits and some picnic tables which are first come, first serve.

Waimanalo is a little rougher of an area than Lanikai but still very nice. There is also a nearby McDonald_s, gas station, post office, convenience store and plate lunch plate if you need something.

No matter where you go, lock your car and keep windows up. Theft from cars is very big in Hawaii no matter where you are. Put all valuables in your trunk if you must bring them but remember thieves will use your trunk pop handle in order to search the trunk too.

I personally think that with half a day, Lanikai Beach is best. You have to go through Kailua town to get there which will give you even more to do/look at, restaurants, gas stations, etc.

What is the weather like in Washington DC in late february?|128770

Planning a trip there and I would like to visit during the a less busy time. Would this be an appropriate time to visit if I am going to be walking 90% of the time outside (will there be snow?).

Is early March a busy time for tourism? Sorry for so many questions but I appreciate the help!

  • February can be miserably blinking cold. It_s also when we get the most snow. I spend as much time indoors in January and February, as they are the most unpleasant months.

If you_re going to be walking a lot, try coming in April, when the weather is still a bit chilly, but starting to warm up a bit.

  • Good time to visit as there are not so many tourists around but wrap up warm! It can be very cold at that time of year. Snow is possible but doubtful be wrapped up against the frost or cold winds which are chilling.

  • It would be still very cold. Until the middle of April, Washington remains cold and windy.
  • Are there any good nudist resorts on the beach in the United states?|113310

I was hoping to go to the Hedonism II resort in Jamaica but it looks like it is just too expensive for me right now with the airfare and all. What about a nice beach nudist resort in the US? I have seen ones with pools and lakes, but not an ocean beach. Im 59 and my wife is 36 and we are in good shape and enjoy nude recreation. Any recommendations?

  • No not really. There is Haulover Beach in Miami. It is not a resort, just a legal nude beach. Of course Florida can be pretty rainy and humid this time of the year.

We own a nudist resort in Palm Springs, CA which is the sunniest city in the US. We have lots of guests who used to go to Hedo, Grand Lido, Mexico etc stay with us as we are a great value and very popular.
    Our site is http://sunnyfun.com

We also get lots of couples trying topless and nude sunbathing for the first time as we are the most mainstream nudist resort in the US.

This year I have found many Americans have decided to no longer spend their vacation dollars in Mexico and the Caribbean giving that money to non nudist owned hotels. I hear from any nudists saying they cancelled their out of country vacations this year as they want to support American and Canadian nudist resorts.

Go to the American Assoc for Nude Recreation site for more info on places to go in the US.

  • Not that I know of. Most nude beaches are remote and on public lands, precluding a resort being right there on the beach. The closest you_re going to find is Haulover Beach near Miami. It_s at least within a short walking distance to (alas clothed) hotels.

  • Not really a resort, but there is Gunnison Beach in NJ

    http://www.gunnisonbeach.org/

  • Sandy Hook, NJ and Fire Island, NY
  • What is the best surrounding city of Nashville?|112912

My husband and I are looking to move to the Nashville area next year but would rather live in a surrounding city to save money. I have heard that Hermitage and Hendersonville are pretty nice. Any other suggestions? We are looking for a family friendly area that is relatively close to activities and shopping.

  • Your best value will be in Hendersonville or Gallatin. Hermitage isn_t bad, however. All 3 are reasonable options. If you have lots of $$, Brentwood and Franklin to the south are trendy and higher-priced.
White House and Springfield are more rural bedroom communities.
The southeast corridor toward Murfreesboro is much more crowded and has higher crime rates.

  • I grew up in Tennessee and it_s such a gorgeous state. I like the Franklin area. I hear it_s pretty expensive now because a lot of the country music stars live around there. You can_t go wrong anywhere you live in Tennessee. When I go home and go over a hill and look down in the valley it never ceases to take my breath away.

  • id go with hendersonville

  • Brentwood very upscale, that would be my choice
  • How do I travel from San Francisco to Winchester House in San Jose and get back to San Francisco by four pm?|125912

We are goin on a tour of Alcatraz at 6pm and can_t arrive back any later than this. Thanks heaps.

  • You_re going to want to take Caltrain. Unfortunately, the Baby Bullet trains are not an option. The first northbound train arrives in SF at 5:24pm (not enough time to get to Alcatraz by 6).

There is a limited-stop train that leaves San Jose Diridon at 2:40pm and gets you to SF at 4:02pm.

There_s no bus route directly from Winchester Mystery House to San Jose Diridon. If you don_t mind a bit of walking, the simplest way to go is:
    - walk north on Winchester Blvd (away from 280) and turn right on Forest Av.(~ 3/4 mile)
    - go into the Valley Fair Mall bus depot on your right
    - catch an eastbound 23 bus (going toward Alum Rock Transit Center)
    - ride the bus until you get to the corner of W San Carlos St and Bird Av (also known as W San Carlos St and Montgomery).
    - walk north on Montgomery (aka Bird) - stay on the western sidewalk
    - turn left on San Fernando St and you_ll see Diridon Station

In order to make the 2:40pm train, I_d leave the Winchester Mystery House no later than about 1:15pm.

  • you won_t make it -the cost of the Winchester house _ the size means you spend a full day wandering. enjoy your trip -you can spend a full day in SF _ one in SJ (there_s a yummy Thai restaurant across from the mansion).

  • Do you have a car or are you relying on public transportation?
  • How far is the distance from Austin texas to Leesville Louisiana?|126772

I am planning a trip to Leesville Louisiana from Austin Texas and I would like to know what is the distance from here to there....

  • That is exactly 6 and 1/2 hours, if you are traveling the back way through Brenham and on hwy 8 through Louisiana. That also is the best scenic view by the way.

  • Total Est. Time: 6 hours, 0 minutes
    Total Est. Distance: 334.74 miles

  • How bad is traffic on the 125 S freeway in San Diego in the morning around 9am?|166143

I_ll be using 8 W to the 125 S to 54 E around 9 in the morning and I was wondering how bad traffic would be. I know there_s construction going on too, but don_t know how much time it_ll take to get through there.

  • Traffic shouldn_t be that bad. I would recommend you turn on your TV when you wake up and listen to the Traffic News for any reported accidents or construction detours. Good Luck!!!
  • How do you get from the Upper West Side to Crown Heights Brooklyn?|138894

How do you get from the Upper West Side to Crown Heights Brooklyn (Eastern Parkway boulevard)? I live on the upper west side and don_t know the subway lines really yet, I just moved to new york.

  • Take the number 2 train. It stops right on Eastern Parkway. There is a stop called _Eastern Parkway_ right in front of the Brooklyn Museum.

  • Gotta be the #8 and ask the token booth person if you have to change

NOLA is one of the world_s special places with an ambience unique in North America, and remains so even after Katrina devastated it in 2005.

Katrina flooded about 80% of New Orleans with salt water, and the water stayed for almost a month. Much of the city is still struggling to recover and all you have to do to see devastation is drive around. It will take years for NOLA to fully recover from Katrina.

However, the parts of the city that tourists usually visit were not flooded. It_s not a coincidence - the French Quarter and other old parts of the city were built on relatively high ground and only suffered wind damage from Katrina. Almost all of the damage has been repaired and you have to look closely in the FQ and city center to see that Katrina happened at all.

Note that the City of New Orleans is only part of the greater New Orleans area. The GNO area had a population of about 1,400,000 before Katrina and is estimated at about 1,250,000 now (July, 2008). The absent 150,000 are mostly from the City of New Orleans and the parishes of Plaquemines and Saint Bernard, which were the worst-flooded parts of the metro area. Jefferson Parish - just to the west of the City - suffered relatively minor flooding and has fully recovered.

You can drink the water, the electricity _ phones work, and services like the post office, hospitals, schools, and police/fire/EMS are operating. Restaurants, stores and shopping centers are open.

Municipal services like street cleaning _ trash collection collapsed after Katrina. Those services were fully restored in late 2006 and it is no longer an issue.

I recommend staying in the French Quarter (Vieux Carre_) if you can. There is a very wide range of selections available, from moderate guest houses to very exclusive _boutique_ hotels. Search Yahoo Travel and Travelocity for ideas and also check the hotel websites. Go to www.frenchquarterhotels.com for some non-chain hotels. A great hotel thats downtown but outside the FQ is the Le Pavillion:
    http://www.lepavillon.com/

A very inexpensive option for students and international visitors is the India House hostel:
    http://www.indiahousehostel.com/

You don_t need a car to get around in the French Quarter, Central Business District, or Warehouse District. Also, the parking regulations are Byzantine and there are lots of Parking Control Agents. If you drive or rent a car, leave it in a lot or garage unless you are traveling away from downtown.

The regional transit authority (www.norta.com) sells 1 and 3 day passes that offer unlimited use of buses and streetcars for the day(s) you select. There are also lots of taxicabs.

Louisiana is the only US state that offers tax-free shopping for international visitors:

    http://www.louisianatravel.com/shop/tax_

Regarding crime, use the same common sense necessary in every major city in the world and there is little chance you will be a victim of anything except a need to visit the gym.

New Orleans has mild weather from late October to early May and the city stays green all year most years (rarely freezes and almost never snows). We pay for the mild winters with hot, humid summers C particularly in July _ August. Just wear light, cotton clothes and take it easy during the afternoon. The good news for summertime visitors is that hotel rates are lower.

Things to do in New Orleans:

Mardi Gras and the Jazz Festival are world famous events, but New Orleans hosts many festivals and celebrations throughout the year:
    http://www.nola.com/festivals/

There are many sightseeing opportunities in the greater New Orleans area, including carriage rides/tours, plantation tours, swamp tours, ghost tours, and even Katrina disaster tours. The steamboat Natchez also does a harbor tour. There are numerous tour companies and your hotel can help with the arrangements. Try to avoid scheduling an outdoor tour until you know the weather forecast for the day in question.

The Saint Charles Streetcar is the oldest continuously operating street railway in the world and is a _tourist attraction_ in its own right. It is part of the public transit system, as are the Canal Street and Riverfront streetcar lines:
    http://www.norta.com/

There is always music, but the bands change: Go to www.bestofneworleans.com and click on Music then Listings or to www.offbeat.com and click on Listings, then Music.

Note that music clubs often advertise _No Cover_, meaning there is no charge for entering. However, clubs with _No Cover_ often require that customers buy a beverage each for every _set _ of music (which can be every 20 minutes) so KNOW THE PRICE before you sit down. Clubs do that because some people will sit in the club all evening drinking nothing (clubs only make money from the drinks they sell - not from the music). It is also a good idea to pay for each round of drinks (in clubs on Bourbon Street) as it is delivered so there can_t be any confusion at the end of the evening.

An incomplete guide to bars _ clubs:
    http://blog.nola.com/brettanderson/2008/

About certain alcoholic beverages: Realize that some famous drinks are VERY potent compared with regular cocktails that have only 1 to 1 ? ounces of alcohol. For example, a Hurricane is basically 3 or 4 ounces of rum in something like red Kool-Aid, and a Hand Grenade has at least 4 ? ounces of Everclear + rum + vodka mixed with melon liquor. They dont necessarily taste like an alcoholic beverage and it is easy to over-indulge.

Wander around the French Quarter, enjoy the architecture, watch the street entertainers (do tip), and visit some of the historic buildings that have been turned into museums (go to www.frenchquarter.com and click on Historic Attractions).

Assuming the weather is good, you can collect a sandwich lunch and eat in the riverfront park (watch the shipping) or in Jackson Square (a very nice park).

The Riverwalk shopping center has an air-conditioned food court with dining overlooking the river (www.riverwalkmarketplace.com). The Canal Place shopping center is in the French Quarter and has a cinema and higher-end shopping (Saks 5th Avenue, Brooks Brothers, etc.)

The lobby for the Westin Canal Place Hotel is on the 11th floor and overlooks the French Quarter. It is a great place for an afternoon drink/snack:(www.westin.com).

Cafe du Monde is in the French Quarter and you shouldn_t miss having cafe au lait _ beignets (www.cafedumonde.com). Another great coffee shop is the Croissant d_Or (at 615 Ursulines Street), which is open from 7:00am to 2:00pm and has food in addition to pastry.

The Palm Court restaurant is very nice, has moderate prices, and traditional live jazz starting at 8:00pm: 1204 Decatur Street, tel 504-525-0200 (reservations are important and they are not open every day). The Palm Court is closed from about July 25th to about September 25th each year.

Maximo_s Italian Grill has great food and atmosphere: 1117 Decatur Street in the French Quarter, (504) 586-8883.

All of the famous restaurants (Antoine_s, Arnaud_s, Brennan_s, Commander_s Palace, etc.) have reopened. The Pelican Club (on Exchange Alley in the FQ) is not as well known but is the same type experience. Reservations are a good idea, and probably essential on weekends. Tujaques Restaurant (823 Decatur Street) is very traditional and has moderate prices:
    http://www.tujaguesrestaurant.com/

Cafe Degas is a very French restaurant near City Park at 3127 Esplanade - which is not within walking distance of downtown (5 to 10 minutes by taxi). They are closed on Mondays _ Tuesdays (504-945-5635).

The Napoleon House restaurant is at 500 Chartres Street in the FQ, and has a menu of great local dishes:
    http://www.napoleonhouse.com/

Preservation Hall has traditional live Jazz, and doesnt serve alcohol so all ages are welcome:
    http://www.preservationhall.com/

New Orleans has ballet, opera, a symphony orchestra, and theatre:

    http://www.nobadance.com/

    http://www.neworleansopera.org/

    http://www.lpomusic.com/

    http://www.lepetittheatre.com/

There is a free ferry across the Mississippi at the _foot_ of Canal Street. It is a short trip but like a harbor cruise w/o a guide:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/canal_stree

The Aquarium, Audubon Zoo, and the new Insectarium are world-class attractions (www.auduboninstitute.org) and you should see them if you can. The Zoo is several miles from downtown. You can drive to the Zoo (which has free parking) or take public transit from the French Quarter.

The Louisiana State Museum is in the French Quarter:
    http://lsm.crt.state.la.us/
New Orleans is also home to a number of other museums, such as the National World War II Museum (www.ddaymuseum.org) and the New Orleans Museum of Art (www.noma.org). Both can be reached by public transit: The WWII museum is in the central business district but a long walk from the French Quarter. NOMA is not within walking distance of downtown but has free parking. Go to
    http://www.neworleansmuseums.com/
    for info on more museums.

Harrahs Casino is in the Central Business District:
    http://www.harrahs.com/casinos/harrahs-n
    (age 21 required for entry)

New Orleans City Park has a variety of attractions, including an amusement park with rides and attractions for children + free parking. City Park also presents _Celebration in the Oaks_ from late November to early January: (www.neworleanscitypark.com).

Check www.frenchquarter.com for ideas about other things to do.

Hope you have a great time!
  • What is a good way to make a road trip economical?|138244

My husband and I are travelling to move to Arizona from Long Isalnd New York, we will need to have a place for lodging, food, meals, gas, and any emergenices that may pop up. What is a good way to plan this road trip without spending too much. We do have money saved but we want to use it wisely. Thank you for your answers.

  • i can answer this! i just moved to arizona from washington state. one way we saved extra money was really to make our lunches. we were on the road for 3 days... i made sandwiches for the first day and packed yogurts, pudding chips ect... kept the mayo mustard and bread in the cooler so when we got to the hotel room we made sandwiches for the next day... now i was driving an explorer while my boyfriend drove the uhaul... i looked out for the cheapest prices in gas since i was able to go faster... one i felt that i found it then i_d call him and let him know (trust me this saved.. one exit difference meant a difference in 60 cents per gallon)... we didn_t stay at fancy hotels... no need it_s not a vacation it_s simply a place to rest your head and get ready for the next day... we actually came out on top when we got to arizona... spent 300 less than we thought we would by avoiding fast food (which moves through your body quicker making more rest rooms stops) and if you have water/gatarode or pop buy it ahead of time in bulk you_ll save more money!!! hope this helps. oh and welcome to arizona you_ll love it!!!

  • Maybe you could choose a destination that_s downhill all the way.

  • Great advice! We are moving from Washington State to California in 6 days, so this will help some!

  • I usually stay at Motel 6 when I drive across America. They usually have the lowest rates and they are purposely located along the Interstate highways.

If you go to their website, they_ll provide you a map of all their locations between your start and end destinations.

    http://www.motel6.com

  • become a member of AAA. They will help plan the fastest route and the membership comes with perks like discounted motel and travel discounts. They will also point out where you can run into construction and advise you on ways around if possible. It_s well worth it. They helped me out so much on my move to Arizona from Kentucky.

  • Well if you folks are willing to go extreme :), ride a van, sleep in it (u can remove the backseats and lay a mattress there). And then save on food. Those two are I believe you can save the money most.

  • Get a tripik from AAA (auto club).

  • Well I think obviously the first answer would be to have a car that is good on gas. If you are moving your entire life, though, you might not be able to fit it all in a small hybird car!!! But, that having been said, the first thing to do would be to contact AAA. They will give you a Trip Tik, which they will mail you maps for free, and highlight the best routes, marking where they may be detours, etc. They will also give you state books which will have coupons and discounts for hotel and restaurants. Now, food will be what you_ll end up spending the most money on, so it would be cheapest to buy things at a grocery shop, like snacks and sandwiches, etc ahead of time, and keep a small cooler easily at reach in the car. Every so often you_ll need to stop and refresh the ice, but think about how much eating out every meal of the day can add up! So, settle for a few bags of chips or whatever you_d like to snack on rather than a pricey meal. Other than that, it would just be the same common sense, you_d use when traveling anywhere. Best of luck to you!!!
  • Will I get refunded for my hotel stay if a family member passes away?|148463

I have to be out of state for a whole week in sept, I need to book the hotel ASAP. I have had a close family member who has been sick for over a year. I am concerned how this person_s health will be by sept. I am also concerned that this person could die. My job is paying for the hotel and I am concerned that if something happened, and I couldn_t go, would they be able to get reimbursed for the trip, the plane and all? I really need to start making arrangements.

  • Airlines will normally grant a refund for the death of a traveler or immediate family member. However, they will require a death certificate. Don_t expect them to take your word for it. They don_t usually give refunds for non-immediate family members. Of course, you may be traveling on a refundable ticket depending on your itinerary, so it might not even be an issue.

Your company will not lose the entire value of the ticket as long as you cancel before your scheduled departure. It can be applied to the cost of a future trip less a change fee. Your company_s travel department will know all about this.

The hotel should not be a problem because you don_t typically pre-pay hotels. You pay them when you check out. You usually have to provide a credit card guarantee, but you don_t get charged unless you fail to cancel before the hotel_s deadline (which is typically 4pm or 6pm local time). There are exceptions, but this is how most hotels work so you shouldn_t have any problem.

It_s nice of you to worry about this, but my experience is that corporations understand that emergencies happen. Companies that mandate nonrefundable tickets are aware that there is a risk of losing money if you can_t go. However, they save enough money overall that they_ll accept losing a few bucks occasionally.

Good luck. I hope that your relative pulls through.

  • Probably not unless you have trip insurance that covers _death in the family_ as a reason to cancel reservations.

Where are some of the cheapest places to park in San Francisco?|122924

I_m staying in Oakland but want to hang out in San Francisco during the day.Where are good places to park and leave my car in San Francisco while I_m out and about in the city?Where are the cheapest places to park for several hours or all day?

  • City-owned garages have the lowest prices-- Sutter/Stockton, 5th/Mission.

However, if you_re just going to drive over and park all day, why not just BART over and save the hassle?

  • Honestly, don_t bring your car into SF. Use the BART rail system or AC Transit transbay buses from Oakland _ the east Bay into San Francisco. Once in the city the MUNI system can get you just about anywhere on their buses, light rail system and cable Cars etc. Avoid parking in the city it is the pits and unsafe at best not to mention very costly. Good Luck!

  • at my garage

  • yeah Bart is cheaper than to parking and moving the car around the city,, it is about $8 or less roundtrip,,but just becareful parking vehicle around oakland bart-they at times had car break in and street robbery... Also once in the city, use the buses ,walk and/or trolley/cable cars to get around, much cheaper..

  • Leave the car at the BART station and take the train to Sf.

  • Check the signs on the block to make sure there are no parking meters or neighborhood parking or street cleaning restrictions, then park in a residential neighborhood (for instance Richmond District or Sunset District or even closer in) near a good metro or bus line which will take you directly in to the part of town where you want to hang out.

The bus or metro ride only costs $1.50 each way. Ask the driver for a transfer when you get on. It should be good for about 90 minutes.

The other answer is better. Take the BART. Why worry about parking or traffic -- just enjoy.
  • How do I get to Columbia University from Penn Station?|134022

I_ve never been to NYC before and will be visiting the school with my family.

Also, can anyone recommend some interesting things to do near the school?

  • You have to take the 1, 2 or 3 UPTOWN to 116th street. These are all located right in Penn Station. If you are downstairs by the LIRR, look for the MacDonalds tucked way at the far end of the station by the stairs up to the new NJ Transit waiting area- the subway entrance is right next to it. The 1 is a local, it will stop at all stops on its way up to 116th. The 2 and 3 are expresses, they stop at 42nd, 72nd and 96th. If you take one of these trains you need to get off at 96th and transfer to the 1. Once you get out of the subway, go up the stairs on the right and you_ll be at the main gates.

For the traditional Columbia experience, stop in at Labyrinth books, the Hungarian Pastry Shop, and Koronet Pizzeria.

  • Get the #1 IRT subway. Take it to 116 Street. Ride in the back of the fourth car. You will exit near a flight of stairs that get you to Broadway and 115 Street, and right by a campus entrance.
Columbia is all by itself an interesting place. There are many campus buildings. Explore Fayerweather, Pupin, and others. Eat on Amsterdam between 111 and 110 Street in the V_T, then backtrack a few feet to the Hungarian Pastry Shop for a (fattening) desert. For Chinese food, the Moon Palace on Broadway near 112 St.
The campus runs from 114 Street to 120 Street between Broadway and east to Amsterdam Ave. North of 120 Street is Teachers College, a part of the University. North of 116 Street to 120, from Broadway west to Claremont Avenue is the Barnard College Campus. North of 120 you have a theological seminary and Julliard. The Law School is east of Amsterdam above 116 St. Other university affiliated buildings are all through the area.

  • By subway take the number 1 train to 116 street.

Penn station has the number 1 2 3 A Ce trains.

    you want the 1

  • you can either take the 1 train on 110th street downtown to 34th street (its a local train) or you can take the 1 train on 110th street downtown to 96th street and transfer to the 2 or 3 train to 34th street (right across the platform. the 2 and 3 are express trains).

Central park is nearby the school

  • You can also take the 1/9 (red line) at 34th St/Penn Station uptown to 116th St. This will drop you off right in front of the main entrance of the campus. For a quicker ride, take the 2/3 express to 96th st., and transfer to the local 1/9.

  • i recommend just taking the uptown 1 train all the way to the 116th st stop, rather than having to switch at 96th. (btw, a lot of long-time new yorkers still refer to the local 7th ave line as 1/9 -- there is no 9 train anymore.. just the 1. 2 and 3 are express.)

slight correction to rachel_s directions above - the 1/2/3 line is near mc donald_s but NOT near the stairs to NJ Transit (that would be the A/C/E line -- the 1/2/3 is at the opposite end).

as for sights around columbia... not much to see or do, really. probably have a picture taken in front of tom_s restaurant (aka that restaurant from seinfeld; also where suzanne vega wrote her song _tom_s diner_) -- it_s a few blocks south along broadway (at 112th st)

you can also check out st john the divine (amsterdam ave near 111 st), which when finished will be the world_s largest gothic cathedral, and 2nd biggest church (after st peter_s at the vatican).

  • From Penn Station, take the A/C/E (BLUE LINE) downtown to CHAMBERS ST. (take a look at:
    http://mta.info/nyct/maps/submap.htm).
You will come out of the subway at CHAMBERS ST _ CHURCH ST.

From there, walk two blocks north, and 1 block west. That should get you to Columbia. See:
    http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en_lr=_cli

To find anything interesting to do in the area, newyork.citysearch.com is an excellent place to start.

  • What are the disadvantages of moving to America, from Britain?|134982

I think i will go to America, when i am older to live, what problems will i have (INCLUDING GETTING A JOB AND OF COURSE BEING ALOUD IN FOR CERTAIN SPECIFICATIONS).

    Hope you can help!

  • The only problem I can see if that you will be living in America

  • I think your worried too much. Alot of British move here to the states and are very happy here. I know a few of them. Obstacles, their biggest obstacles were trying to get citizenship. It is not as easy as once was. I dont know what kind of work you are thinking about but you should specialize in some area that interests you. Maybe learn a trade construction, welding, anything.

  • You won_t have a Queen if you become a American.
  • How do I get into Gettysburg Battlefield at night?|115477

From what I am aware it closes at 7pm but I want to go at night and don_t want to take a stupid tour. Anyone ever done this?

  • You can be arrested and prosecuted for trespassing. Is that really worth it?

  • Do you really want to put yourself in jeopardy? Risking injury is just plain dumb. Anyone trespassing on Federal Park Property will be fined at least and jailed at the worst. A simple stay out after dark, should be sufficient. Here_s a link:

Where can I find a list of old theaters in Philadelphia?|120541

  • What town or city is in between McHenry and Naperville IL?|101995

My boyfriend and I were discussing colleges. He is currently a freshman in college and im a senior in high school. He goes to North Central and i will be going to McHenry County College. I know it_s kinda soon to be planning this stuff, but we like to think about the future. We eventually want to live together and we were wondering what towns are in between those two colleges.
    Thanks. :)

  • They are about 48 miles from each other. Elgin appears to be close to 1/2 way. Zoom in on the map below for other towns. Dundee may be a good choice:

    http://maps.yahoo.com/#mvt=m_lat=42.1074

  • Have you considered the possibility of using a map to figure this out for yourself? It is really not that complicated.

  • I believe Crystal Lake, IL is in between those two.
  • What is a good place to get a hotel and enjoy the nightlife in Columbus Ohio?|113386

I_m gonna be spending the night in Columbus in mid July on my way to Louisville, Kentucky with some friends. That night we_ll be seeing a Columbus Clippers baseball game and then we wanna hit some bars. So I want the hotel to be in a central location in regards to the stadium and some good bars. Also What are some good bars in the area.

  • Cooper Stadium, where the Clippers play, is not in such a great neighborhood...now, if you come back next year, they_ll have a new park in the arena district, but for now it_s on Mound Street. However, that is an easy (5 minute) drive from downtown, so staying anywhere central will be convenient for you. If money is no object, the nicest hotel in town is the Lofts on Nationwide Blvd. - you_ll be right near the short north and arena district, and the hotel is beautiful. However, if you_re on slightly more of a budget, you can be nearby at the Courtyard on Spring Street, which is also nice. The arena district and Park Street are has lots of popular bars - Frog Bear and Wild Boar, Brothers, Lodge Bar, Gasworks, etc. that stay hopping late into the night on weekends. And 71 runs through downtown, so it will be easy for you to hop back on the road to get to Louisville. Enjoy your visit!

What are some quieter places in Los Angeles to hang out to get away sometimes? Griffith Park is one, any more?|109057

Sometimes you just want to be somewhere quiet and relaxing without going too far. What else is good? Echo Park?

  • huntington park..............not a pin will sound specially saturday morning........lol

    boyle heights........
Watts known for its rich chocolate factory... lol
Compton........i think that is the headquarters of the L.a Zoo

  • OMG Dude.
Don_t listen to that ignorant individual talking about my city. I live in Compton. We don_t have any big park like L.A.
Compton is not in L.A, so how could we be LA Zoo Headquarters. You fatuous person. _School yourself_ (Macbeth) you dopey guy.

I suggest to go to Santa Barbara.
Palm Spring or to our local mountains. The one close to Azusa are nice.

    Also try Catalina Island.

  • Watts

  • Santa Monica Pier. i love it there.

  • Look for any beach park on Ranchos palos verdes its mostly residential and its very quiet there and most traffic and people just ignore that area.

If your willing to drive you can go to oxnard when I went there this thanksgiving it was deserted lol.

  • Cheesboro Park

  • If you can get to the beach early, it_s pretty quiet. Mostly joggers are there in the morning, from Santa Monica to Redondo.

A quick drive up Angeles Crest Highway can be very relaxing. There are a lot of hiking trails.

You can also find some nice trails up in the Sunland Tujunga area, especially where Sunland Ave crosses the 210.

The Rose Bowl area is a great place for a jog or a bike ride.

Echo Park? I think it_s too close to Glendale Blvd: Too many cars, area is a bit too dicey.

    Good luck!

  • I used to go to Sturtevant Falls, above Arcadia in the mountains.

  • Museum of Science and Industry
    The Getty Center
    Norton Simon Museum
    Long Beach Aquarium
    Queen Mary
    Mount Wilson Observatory

  • Pasadena is always nice, same with chantry flats (in arcadia)
  • What are the benefits of using a travel agency to plan your trips?|123398

i_d like to know why do travel agencies get better prices with airlines and hotels, how much can you save with them?

  • sorry to disagree, but my daughter was (and still is in a different way) in the travel industry and she always plans and books our trips herself. I can_t imagine anyone getting better deals than we do! She DOES NOT get discounts or any special treatment.... She researches and rechecks her sites constantly.... as an example, after getting our 4 plane fares with frequent flier miles, our 10 day trip FOR 4 to Oahu, including rental car, 2 bedroom with full kitchen and pool hotel a block away from Waikiki Beach, admissions, food and souvenirs cost a TOTAL of...... $1600- remember that was for TEN days for FOUR!!!! We have spent 2 weeks in England for an unbelievable amount also and our trips to Disney World are super cheap. A lot of the fun (for us) is in the planning and researching AND finding the bargains and coupons, etc. Have fun wherever you go and however you get there!

  • I use travel agents,so that I have someone to blame when things go wrong.

Also my local agent books all my flights and holidays,I have checked and cannot find cheaper even on the net, so i know that they are looking after me.
  • Are there any bohemian neighborhoods left in New York?|148116

It seems most places are being developed into expensive, clean neighborhoods. Are there any affordable places left where struggling artists and the like are going to live?

  • I think Bushwick is the only one. Although gentrification is smelled all over the place.

    http://bushwickbk.com/2009/03/26/bushwic

  • There_s no real affordable place for struggling artists! You can look around and find single apartments for around $1,000, but they_ll be small. Best bet is to get a roommate.
If you want _Bohemian_ neighborhoods, though, they *do* exist. Chelsea is probably the best-known one--so many galleries, great arts scene--but it tends to get expensive there. Same with Soho (certain parts) and Greenwich Village.

  • I have no idea, but as an artist I would love to one day be able to work from N.Y. even for a few months! :)
  • What is fun to do in denver, co at night for ages 18 and under?|107140

My boyfriend and i are stuck at home for spring break and we need something exciting to do for cheap!

  • Be creative, you can find a way to acquire a keg (convince an older friend or sibling to buy it) and have all your friends over and throw a rager. Kegs are only about $50 (which is cheap) and you can charge $3 per cup and make a profit if you get enough people to come.

Yeah, go ahead and give me a _thumbs down._ I_m fun and honest, which is why I have 57% best answers, while the museum/shopping crowd has under 10%.

  • You can go to Colorado Mills Mall, downtown Denver, Wheat Ridge Recreation Center, Butterfly Pavillion, or Belmar or to Boulder.

  • indoor skydiving :))
    omg it_s sooooo fun!
    [[not scary]]

    eh, kinda expensive though.
    but definitely worth it

  • I_m not from Denver but there_s loads of things to do.... its a bigger, more lively place than where I live now and I always manage to have a great time

  • Besides going to a movie (which I think is fun anyway!) you could go to a play at the Denver performing arts center (sorry, I can_t remember what it_s called, but it_s really nice), or a concert (they have just about all the stars) but my top recommendation would be Elitch Gardens. Once in the regular season, they_re open _till 9pm. They really up-ed their game when they broke off from the Six Flags franchise. The Denver Museum of Nature and Science is fun, but the only things to do in the evening is IMAX movies (they don_t have the Hollywood movies, only the educational ones) and sometimes they have a special exhibition that has evening tickets available. Denver isn_t the best place for night-time activities, but you can still have fun!

  • goto 6 flags, imax, dave and busters, 16th street mall, im not familuar that much anymore i have moved to phx,az

    QUAKE22 GOOD answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • What are the best months to vist the National parks out in the western USA? And why?|199508

We would like to see Yellowstone, Yosemite, the Painted Dessert, Grand Canyon, Zion, and Bryce, Grand Teton.
How much time will we need?

  • Spring (April, May or early June) or Fall (September, October). Summer is entirely too hot and Winter is rainy and cold.

And you_re going to need a lot of time. 4-6 weeks for a thorough visit to each one.

  • umm around early spring because its not too hot and well the wildlife is more active after the harsh winter

What hotels in San Diego accept Debit or cash?|135994

I have had my identity stolen before and now I refuse to use credit cards. No one will burn me again! I am planning to take a trip down to San Diego and am wondering if any of you knew of debit or cash friendly hotels. Also if there is a deposit what is the amounts you paid? Thanks.

  • Most hotels will have a cancellation policy of either 4pm or 6pm day of arrival (local time). Some will be the day before, but they can hold your room up until that time and as long as cancel within the desired period you will not be up for a charge and they will not require a deposit. Your debit card should be more than OK for holding the room and you should not need to give them a deposit.

Beware...when a debit card is used the hotel/car hire companies more often than not hold a reserve against your account of about $500 (in addition to the room charge rate). The money should show back in your account within 24-48 hours after departure but could take longer. The same can apply to cc_s too, but usually just with debit cards as the vendor has more to lose.

I am sorry to hear about your bad experience but cc_s are a far better bet than debit cards. The level that they offer of protection is far greater and your responsibility is typically only $50 with a cc. Maybe you should re-look at that idea, getting one card with good protection?
Good luck with your trip and the bookings.

  • What is the best way to find short-term / temporary employment amp; housing in the Santa Fe or Taos, NM area?|119843

I_ve thought about moving to the Santa Fe or Taos, NM area for years and I_m planning to spend two or three months there exploring the area because it_s been many years since my last visit. I_ve checked craigslist New Mexico and that_s promising for both job _ housing leads, but I_m wondering if anybody has other suggestions?

  • I would check with Santa Fe Services or Excel Staffing, they are usually good about temp employment, and you may be able to find apartments that do 3 month leases... Here are some other temp agencies

  • Hello:

Give Sante Fe Apartment Guide a try at (505) 821-5212. Good luck!

  • How much are tickets to a spa for a few days?|118776

Ok I really want to get away and do something nice. My husband is home this weekend so he can watch my daughter. I want to know how much spa tickets are to go for about 2 or 3 days. Are they realy expensive?

  • depends on where u go and what u have done

  • Some spas have packages. I think what you are looking for might be just that, packages could include message, facial, nails, hair and lunch or a combination of other services.

A package could be from $175-$350 and run about 4 hours.

Where should I go for the best pizza in Pittsburgh?|106655

I will be in Pittsburgh this weekend for the Cleveland game and want to eat the best pizza Pittsburgh has to offer. Also any other suggestions on places to go Saturday before the game. I am taking my 14 year-old son. He has never been to Pittsburgh before. Thanks a ton.

  • Mineo_s Pizza in the Squirrel Hill section of the city. It_s quite good. :)

For fun on Saturday with your son, I_d suggest going on a Duck Tour (although it may be pretty cold)! They depart from Station Square.

Have fun in the _burgh! (Go Steelers!)
  • What are a few good bars in downtown Chicago?|116686

I will be staying with a few friends at the Omni on N. Michigan Ave. I would like to know of any good bars/clubs nearby that have reasonably priced drinks. We will be going out on Friday night. I_m not interested in any shoulder-to-shoulder, survival of the fittest trendy clubs, but also not a run down old tavern with no young people. Something with a happy medium. Where we can possibly meet younger women without being completely overwhelmed and intimidated by giant tools on spring break. All suggestions are welcome.

This website is the best! It will give you up to date info on everything that_s happening in Chicago. It will even tell you where all the deals are so you may save a few bucks too.

  • Well you could hit the Division Street area. LOTS of bars here, so close to each other that if one isn_t to your liking, you can just walk out the door and go the next. Sometimes it_s shoulder to shoulder (particularly the afterwork crowd), sometimes it_s laid back (after 7 or so on a weekday). Lots of women but also lots of older guys trying to hit on the younger women (the area is unofficially known as the Viagra Triangle). But if you_re younger guys, you might have an advantage over the potbellied geezers trying to hit on them.

Here_s a list of bars in that area that you might want to check out:
    http://chicago.metromix.com/facets/bars-

Some of them are reglar shot-and-a-beer places, some are guys-in-$120-jeans places. Read the descriptions to get an idea.

If you guys are adventerous, you can head to Wicker Park. Lots of bars here as well, but this is more of an indie-band type of crowd (although it has slowly become more popular with the post-frat boy crowd). Lots of bars right next to each other, many with free live bands. (
    http://chicago.metromix.com/facets/bars-

I personally think some of the best bars of the type you describe are far away from the Michigan Ave. area, but I don_t know if you want to travel so far away from that area.

  • For decent priced drinks I would suggest Elephant and Castle. I mean nothing will be totally cheap downtown but I_ve been there a few times after work and I didn_t leave broke. They also have great good. It_s located on 160 E. Huron which is actually right across Michigan Ave from the Omni.

Also, Timothy O_Toole is reasonable. That is on Fairbanks and Erie.

  • just head up to wrigleyville, about 2800 n. clark to 3500 n. clark. TONS of bars and is a young fun crowd with every kind of bar you can think of! Hit www.metromix.com and look up wrigleyville. You will find everything chitown on this site worth doing!
  • How do I get to the meadowlands from nassau county on Long Island?|118127

I_m going to Bamboozle, a music festival, with friends in may. It_s in East Rutherford, NJ, at Giants Stadium. I_m guessing I_m going to have to take a train into NYC and take a bus from there. Can someone please please please give me all information? I_ve never traveled by train/bus before so it_s all new to me. Thank you in advance!

  • Most easiest way will be by Long Island Railroad and New Jersey Transit.
Step 1: Take inbound LIRR to last stop, New York (Penn Station)
Take escalator up and follow sign to New Jersey Transit.
Step 2: From ticket veding machine, follow the instruction of my video.
    2a. Press English.
2b. Press Meadowlands and Other Promotions, then Adult.
2c.Information about Meadowland comes up and press continue.
2d. Then press Cash and it will cost you $10 roundtrip.
    3. Take any outbound New Jersey Transit with symbol _SEC_ Seacus Junction to Seacus Junction.
    4. Then follow sign to bus loading area where New Jersey Transit #353 Rail Shuttle Bus to Meadowland Awaits you.
Return trip will be same location.

  • Take the LIRR westbound to Penn Station. Once there, transfer to NJ Transit. Take any westbound NJT train from Penn Station to Secaucus Junction, where you can then transfer to a shuttle bus to the Meadowlands Sports Complex.

When taking the train from Penn Station, please make sure the destination on the departure board has the initials _SEC_ displayed next to the train number. _SEC_ stands for Secaucus Junction.

A round trip ticket on NJ Transit from Penn Station to Secaucus Junction, which includes the transfer to the shuttle bus cost $10. Please buy you ticket at Penn Station before boarding and hold on to your ticket because you will have to show it to the bus driver when transferring at Secaucus Junction.

I hope this information is very helpful.

    Good luck

  • What is a great place to go camping in California that is fun for partying and allows camp fires?|199501

It is my sister_s 30th birthday and she wants a place where you can have fun and they allow camp fires. Also she would like a place no more than an hour drive from Sacramento.

  • Samuel P Taylor state park in Marin County is really cool with lots of redwood trees. They have fire pits and all, but because it is a public park, you do have to keep the noise down after 10pm. The other place is called Ladoga. It is off interstate 5 near Maxwell. It_s the only free park in California that is at a lake. To find it you would have to get a good map of that area. It_s really cool, because you just pick a spot and can really stretch out. The down side is there are zero facilities accept outhouses, so you need to bring all your own supplies including water. They have very few restrictions.
  • What area of NYC would be best to stay in to be close to the major art museums?|182095

My friend and I plan on traveling to New York soon, and we are focusing the trip on visiting the three major art museums in the city: The Met, MOMA, and the Guggenheim. We are totally ignorant of the locations of the different sections of New York, so what area should we book a hotel in so that we are in the best location to easily visit all three of those museums? Thanks!

  • The Hotel Wales is on the upper east side and is located about fur blocks from the Guggenheim. About eight blocks from the Met. MOMA can be reached by a short ride. You Can go to Lexington Ave at 86th street to take the #6 train down to 51st street. It is a shorter walk on both ends if you take the bus. Go to Fifth Ave and get the #1,2 ,3 or 4 to 53rd street. Turn right on 53rd and you will find the museum on that block.

The hotel is not cheap, but I don_t think that you can find anything in that area that really is.

Besides the three museums that you mentioned, there are more museums in the area as well. The Museum of the City of New York is on Fifth Ave and 103rd street. Between there and the Guggenheim are the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, part of the Smithsonian and the Jewish Museum. A bus trip from 86th Street across the park will put you within a few blocks of the NY Historical Society, the Museum of Natural History and the Planetarium. Near MOMA is the Museum of American Folk Art. About a mikle south of the hotel is the Whitney Museum of American Art. Again best reached by a bus ride down Fifth, or just a stroll down the Avenue. The second link below is a list of NYC museums

  • You don_t want to be _totally ignorant_ regarding how to get around the city if you_re going to visit NYC. There are plenty of guidebooks, either printed or on line, that will help you get oriented - and it_s very simple, especially if you_re going to be mostly in the Midtown area.

If you go to the websites of these museums, you will find info on how to get there via public transportation, which you should also be familiar with. The transit system maps are in the guidebooks or at the transit authority website.

Those museum are generally in the same area of the city, but you_ll need to know how to get from one to the other. Of course, you can always just grab a cab if you don_t want to bother with logistics.

  • You_ll want to find a hotel near the south edge of Central Park, preferraly over toward Madison Avenue, since most the museums you_ll want to hit will be a relatively short walk from there. (And so_s the fantastic shopping along Madison and Fifth Avenues.)

    http://www.hotels-rates.com/hotels/locat

  • there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it_s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

  • Well, if you don_t mind pay a few extra bucks and staying at the hotels along 59th Street. May I recommend a few.

    - The Plaza
    - The Essex House
    - Park Mariden

    among others

You can still walk or take the subway to the museums.

    Good luck
