What is the water like at destin beach in florida around late july?|116458

Heading to Destin beach in a couple days and just wondering what the water will be like.

  • Warm and clear. unless there is a storm. the water temp is around 91. Hopefully there aren_t storms. i went to marco island two years ago and the first two days were beautiful. calm waves, clear and warm water. then a storm came and the water became cold and murky. but the water is usually clear and warm :)
    Have a good trip!

  • Wet :-)
  • How long does it take to drive from Buffalo New York to Key West?|193447

Me and some friends want to go up to Key West for our senior trip driving. How long does it take to drive from Buffalo New York to Key West? Would it be cheaper to fly?

  • If you are all driving together in one vehicle, driving will probably be less expensive. It is expensive to fly to Key West. Here is a link to the driving directions from mapquest, which says about 25 hours. Allow a few hours more than that for missed exits, meal stops, etc.

  • Fly down to either FT. Lauderdale or Miami and rent a car then it will take you about 4 hrs. If driving it should take about 25 hrs.
  • How early should we arrive for Shakespeare in Park in Kansas City?|167160

How early do you need to stake out a spot at the KC Shakespeare in the Park at Southmoreland park? We want to take a picnic and make a night of it, but have kids and can_t come too early. Would 7:00 be too late to get a decent seat if the show starts at 8:00?

  • I went to the show tonight and arrived around 7 and we were able to sit in the front row of the _chair section._ It was also just a Tuesday night and I imagine it makes a difference on what night you go. Even if you go on a more crowded night, there didn_t seem to be a whole lot of _bad_ seats. If I were to go again, I wouldn_t show up until 7:00 myself, if that helps at all.

  • You might want to come at 6:30. Seats fill up fast sometimes. Some people come an hour early to sit

What is the most protected and guarded place or thing in the United States?|113196

And what is the most protected and guarded place or thing in the World?

  • Fort Knox-Most protected in the USA.

Mecca-Most protected in the world. As in, if you start something, you will be killed.

  • white house and nuclear power plants

  • AREA 51!

that was just a random guess.

  • sorry, you all wrong, it_s norad
  • What are some nice things to see in Charleston, I also want to stay close to downtown and the beach?|169641

What are some nice things to see in Charleston, I also want to stay close to downtown and the beach.

  • (I assume you_re talking Charleston, SC.)

Take a trip out to Fort Sumter. Walk around the market, shops, and galleries and down along the battery and through some of the old houses,.... It_s a beautiful place.
  • How far is it from the air port to the sites in Boston?|168574

Like the freendom walk could and so on or the subway to get there?

  • Take the trains, Subway, it is safer and much quicker then any cabs, cars, or any other transportation in the city. It takes you right downtown and anywhere else you want to go. It is only about 4 miles, but it is a very long 4 miles by car.

  • It depends on traffic from Logan Airport, but gnerally from plane to downtown is only a matter of minutes. Have fun there. Boston is an awesome city. Yes, the subway...known locally as _the T_, will get you there quickly.

  • Best way is to take the _T_ (subway) . Boston is a nice small city where just about everything is a few steps from a T stop.

Here_s how you_d go to get downtown.

At the terminal, go to ground transportation next to baggage claim. Go outside to the curb.

Take bus 11 downstairs to the subway station.

Get on the Blue line (it_s only the blue line @ the station) INBOUND toward downtown (the far track).

Take it four stops to Gov_t Center. Here, you_re at Fanueil Hall/Quincy Market (across the street). And you can find the Freedom trail nearby as well!

But say you want to go to Fenway Park or Copley Place. Then you_d transfer at Gov_t Center to the Green line, At Gov_t center, go upstairs where the green line is and take ANY of the green line trains heading outbound (B, C, D, or E) lines heading to Boston College, Cleveland Circle, etc,

Take the green line four stops (Park St, Boylston, Arlington, Copley) and you_re at the Copley stop! Or if you_re going to go to Fenway, just take a B, C, or D train instead and go two stops past Copley to Kenmore Sq. It_s less than a 5 min walk from there!

See mbta.com for a map of the subway.

Another good launching points for the freedom trail is from Park St (red line), which is also near the old cemetery, Boston Common, and North Church.

Harvard Sq, Harvard, and MIT are also on the red line as well

    Have fun!

  • Not that far. Boston is a small city... Airport to the city by car is about 10 mins. By train, maybe about 15-20 mins.

  • Everything is VERY close, just a few miles apart. It is possible to get there via public transportation, the trains go right to the air port, and so you could take the T downtown to all the tourist sites. But, it might be a lot easier to just take a taxi. It_ll probably only cost $20 or less and would be a small fraction of the time.
  • How long would a plane ride be from North Carolina to Wiesbaden Germany?|166484

We are moving there and i_m just trying to get all the small details now.

  • The nearest airport to Wiesbaden is Frankfurt am Main (about 20 miles by road).

You also don_t say from where in NC, but Charlotte (CLT) to Frankfurt (FRA) is about 8 1/2 hours in the air, non-stop on US Airways.

  • NOLA is right. We live in Wiesbaden. It_s about 25 mins to the airport in Frankfurt and around 8-9 hours flight. When are you flying?

When is the best time to arrive and leave for trip to Las Vegas?|152793

For the best prices on hotel and flight which dates of the week are the best to arrive and depart for trip to Las Vegas?

I_m planning on a trip the first week of August for 3-4 nights.

  • I agree with Monday thru Thursday. August is generally a slow month due to the heat.

However, I also recommend checking the convention calendar just to be sure:

    http://www.lvcva.com/meetings/convention

... you wouldn_t want to try booking a room at a hotel on the same days where 10,000 conventioners are expected. I always check for conventions before booking. Small conventions like 500 people are nothing but when they get into the thousands I_d avoid those specific hotels; and if a convention is huge I_d avoid that whole area. Like if 50,000 fishermen are going to be at Mandalay Bay I_d stay up north at Treasure Island, Venetian, or Stratosphere.

  • For your situation, your best bet is to arrive on a Sunday or Monday and depart no later than Thursday or Friday. Hotel rates will be highest for Friday and Saturday night stays. Airfares are generally lower for Tuesday to Thursday flights although depending on the airline this period can be same for the lower hotel rates.

Since you plan on going in the summer, the only other thing for you to consider is do you want to stay at a place that has a pool or not. That will change the list of hotels that you may want to consider.

  • Try to arrive in Vegas around 2PM. That way by the time you get off the plane and get your luggage you can catch a taxi and be at your hotel at the perfect time to check in. 3 PM is normal check in time. That way you can go straight to your room.

Leave as early as possible from Vegas. It isn_t as crowded then and if you are going east you have to remember that you will be gaining time for your arrival. If you leave late you will be arriving at awkward hours in the middle of the night. Leaving early you avoid the crowds as most people like to leave in the mid morning or afternoon.

  • For me...

Sat-Tues has always been the best option. Arrive early Sat, the hotels will almost always let you check in early unless its a busy holiday weekend. Either way, you can store your luggage and go out and enjoy the pool or something.

Rates drop alot Sunday and Monday, so you are getting a much better deal arriving sat then you do arriving thursday or friday.

Also, the pools can be very crowded thurs- sunday in the summer, but monday and tuesday ussualy they are not too bad.

  • my lady friend comes from chicago and usually arrives at 10 pm on a friday or sat night. the airport is very uneventful. parking is easy and it is just a short wait for her bag to come to the carousel.
leaving on Sat or Sun between 1-10 p.m can be a real pain in the neck, usually most crowded time at the airport.
so mid week tues to thru is cheapest for your rooms.
but in this economy rooms are very competitive right now. try this site vegas.com used in many times when I lived back east and planned my move here.

  • Are you driving, flying, walking? Most flight arrive early in the day and leave late in the day. If driving you can do the same or arrive and leave anytime you wish.

  • the best time to arrive is when the tables are hot,
the best time to leave is when the tables are cold....

  • I like arriving at night so that you can see the lights, but then you lose that whole day.
We leave around noon to come home to NJ.

  • just before the summer traffic is when you should leave and go at the end of spring

  • Just avoid the weekend so Monday thru Thurs
  • What is fun to do in Manayunk in Philadelphia when it snows?|165793

Recently moved to the area and I am looking for fun ideas for this snowy weekend. Thanks!

  • stay off of the roads- head to downtown manayunk (walking) to see the lights, but many places are actually closed this weekend (due to the blizzard!)...

this may be a good weekend to stay inside and make a nice dinner, it is what we are doing;)
  • Traveling to Philadelphia from Atlanta, will the tickets be around 250 roundtrip?|163703

Also, how much do they charge per bag. Do I go buy the tickets now to reserve them. I have also never flew before, I am a bit concerned on makeup and stuff of what i can not bring with me?

  • I think you need a Russian visa...

  • It depends on how many speed traps are out there this time of year.

Can we drink on the beach on Honululu without getting cited by the police?|189280

I_m graduating high school this June. And my friends and I are planning to go to Honolulu for a week for our senior trip. My concern is, how strict are the cops there? We definitely will be drinking and partying, and some of us, but not all have fake IDs. Will we be able to drink on the beach with no problem? Maybe some other places?

Also, how much is like a standard 30 pack at a grocery store there? I know tis more expensive but how much more?

  • Most likely the beer drinking party will come to a hault in Honolulu. You_ll might be facing the 5-o and also the lifegaurds. If you have any friends living in Honolulu, his/her house would be a great place. hu knows.

And please...dnt put McLovin as a name on any i.d.

  • First of all the legal drinking age is 21 like the rest of the US. Public drinking is against the law in Hawaii. Unless you want to spend your vacation in jail I suggest you don_t do it.

  • Underage drinking I remember those days lol Well my advice is not to drink on any beach in Waikiki, there are cops that do beach patrol on ATVs and believe me they don_t play around with any open containers. lol Like the guy above me said if you travel to the north shore you will have much better luck. As for a 30 pack I_m assuming your talking about can beer, Any Bud products (Budweiser, bud light, bud ice etc.) run any where from $20-$25 depending if you go to a liquor store or grocery store. As for Heineken to corona_s it_s a little more. Good luck and I hope the cops leave you guys alone. Also Congrats on graduating.

  • Don_t try to do it in Waikiki, or anywhere in town. If you go out to the country, you_ll be much safer. Get to the North Shore if you can, or even a neighbor island, and you_ll be less likely to run into static from the fuzz.
  • I am considering moving to Denver From Tennessee what is Denver Like?|102760

I am looking for someone who is from Denver. I am planning to move out there because my husband_s family is in Denver. Currently we have no family near us in Nashville. What are the pros and cons of Denver? What are some good neighborhoods to live in?

  • Denver_s awesome. I hope someday I_ll find myself back there. Good neighborhoods include, but are not limited to: Cherry Creek, Englewood, Lakewood, Littleton, Highlands Ranch. There are a lot of great neighborhoods, actually. The weather is great out there. You get all 4 seasons, unlike the south where it_s just hot, hot, and hotter. What_s cool about Denver weather is that a lot of time when it snows, it_s sunny and beautiful the next day (every now and then you do get blizzards, though). There_s a lot of great shopping, lots of great music venues, and a lot of great bars (someone told me that Denver has more bars per capita than any other city in the U.S.) The people are very friendly there, and you_re close to the mountains. The only bad thing about Denver are the Bronco fans (not the Broncos, just the fans).

  • Metro Denver is a nice city, Very clean, traffic is horrible for a smaller city however _ it is expensive to live here. I moved here last year(2008) from northern New Jersey(metro NYC area). It has almost anything a person could ask for. Only problem is the economy now. Unemployment is high!

  • Like Karen said.move here and don_t look back. Moved here 16 years ago from NJ. to Castle Rock about 30min. south of Denver. Would never move back to Jersey or anywhere else. Love it here. Check out
    http://www.townofcastlerock.org

Voted one of the top 10 family friendly towns by Better Homes and Gardens and Family Circle Magazines

  • i just moved away from Denver and miss it terribly. please see my answer in your other question and i explain Denver to you in it. Its a great town, especially if you have a family it feels very safe

  • I moved here from NY 20 years ago and never looked back, you will like the dry air and more days of sunshine than Florida, mild winters albeit we did have our fair share of blizzards last winter.. not the norm, concerts, broadway shows major sports teams great shopping and friendly folks.... Lowry and Stapleton are great newer areas to live in, close to the mountains...cons, winters can get cold at times and being from NY i still refer to it as a cowtown.

How much are the Jonas Brothers tickets going to be for the Staples Center in Los Angeles concert on August 7?|151719

Please no rude comments if you don_t the jonas brothers then don_t be looking at this question.
I really need and answers fast!

  • 25 -82 dollars depends if you want good or bad seats

  • IDK, but I think the prices depend on the city they go to, caus eppl say they_re like from 50 ,bad seats, to 100 on good seats but don_t count on it cause I_ve seen them go up to $950 where they sold their tickets, If ur on team Jonas get to them as fast as you can :D

  • Try looking it up on ticketmaster.com. It_s always a good resource for finding concert dates, locations and prices. Or, go to the Staples Center website.

What interesting things are there to see in Tulsa, Oklahoma?|148938

I_ll be spending a week there next month, are there some things that I definitely should see? What_s August weather normally like? I live in Canada and haven_t been in that area before.

  • The Jenks aquarium (Jenks is a suburb of Tulsa)
August is HOT. HUMID. Hopefully you are staying somewhere where you can cool off in a pool! There is a water park there, if you like that kind of stuff.

Nice malls, several of them. Good restaurants, including the Incredible Pizza. I don_t know if you like stuff like that, but I_m an adult, and I like it. They have pretty good food, not like chuck e cheese pizza that tastes like feet. They have go-karts _ mini golf _ stuff like that -- all indoors, too.

Discoveryland is an outdoor arena that has 2 different plays, depending on when you go. One play is the musical _Oklahoma_ which is a definite MUST see if you are new to Oklahoma. It_s outside, starting around 8:00 ish. You can also purchase a meal ticket beforehand, if you want to eat there. It_s about 15 minutes from tulsa.

  • Well. i havent been very many places in Tulsa but some places i have been were awsome. River Walk Park for one and if you like to be a kid there is an Increadable Pizza which is awsome. also BigSplash, Horse Races, and if you are coming near august 30 (i think) there will be having the Eagles at the opening of the BOK center (bank of oklahoma)
  • What are some fun pit stops to make when driving from Columbus, Ohio to Cleveland, Ohio?|101289

My husband, my 5 year old daughter and myself will be visiting family in Columbus, Ohio for Christmas this year and we thought a fun day trip might be to visit the Christmas Story House in Cleveland. We realize it could be a long drive for our daughter so we were looking for suggestions for fun or interesting stops we could make along the way to break up the long drive. We love to eat regional food specialties so restaurant suggestions are also welcome.

  • Grandpa_s Cheese Barn and its candy store next door are fun to stop at and about half way. It_s off I-71 at Rt. 250 which I think is the Ashland exit. We stop either coming or going each time between Cleveland and Columbus. And they have a Christmas shop all year around, even though you_ll be stopping during the holiday season.
  • What month does it start to get cool in Austin, Texas?|171950

Trying to fly 2 dogs out of Texas, but the airlines don_t allow it unless the outside weather is under 85 degrees fahrenheit and above 40 degrees fahrenheit.
Really don_t want a red-eye flight. So, what month should be cool enough?

  • This summer has been hotter than usual. Normally it will start to cool down in September, but chances are it won_t be until mid to late October this year. November and December are generally mild but a cold front could cause it to drop below 40 degrees.

  • November, MAYBE late October.

  • Maybe if we are lucky you could do it at the end of October but I would plan on November.
  • Is it better to the same price to buy Disney tickets online or at the parks?|182169

I_m heading to Disney next week and was deciding on buying park hopper tickets when I got there or if I should get them on disney online. If it_s the same price I_d like to wait till we get there. Also, Should I but the extra hours? I don_t want to spend the money if it_s usually not that crowded and we get into the rides we want during normal hours.

  • It_s going to be the same price online or in Disney. However, if you are staying on Disney property, you can call your hotel and have tickets added to your reservation. This will help you avoid waiting in line to get your tickets, but also is better than ordering them online and risking them not reaching you before you leave for your trip.

If you_re not staying at Disney property, I would still wait until you get to the park to buy your ticket. Remember, you can go at anytime to buy your tickets, you don_t have to go and wait in line as soon as the park opens. You could go the day you arrive, buy your tickets at the ticket _ transportation center, and then begin park hopping the next day.

If you_re staying on Disney property, extra magic hours are included with your ticket. You_ll need to show your resort ID and you will be allowed into the park. The wristbands have been discontinued, but you will be asked to repeatedly show your resort ID throughout the evening.

Another option that you can purchase, is Mickey_s Very Merry Christmas Party. Anybody can buy this ticket, it is not included in a park ticket, and it is not restricted to resort guests. It_s a holiday party w/special events, characters in holiday costumes, a holiday parade _ fireworks, _snow_ on main street, and free cocoa _ cookies. It is a lot of fun, and something you could consider purchasing if you didn_t get everything done in the parks during the day. The rides for the most part are still open during the event.

Here is a list of December_s extra magic hours. Each day a park will open one hour early, and another will close 3 hours late, for resort guests of course.

    http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/cal

And here_s a link to information about Mickey_s Very Merry Christmas Party:

    http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/par

  • ok well the price is the same online and at the parks. so if you want to wait you won_t loose out on a deal or anything. the only thing is you will be waiting in a long line to buy them at the park but other than that all the options are the same and the price is the same.

and you can_t buy the extra magic hours. the extra hours are a benefit of staying at a disney world resort hotel. the only people that get extra hours are hotel guests. everyone else has to leave when the park closes. and the people from the disney hotels get a wrist band to wear so they can be identified as being aloud to use the extra magic hours.
but don_t worry you will get pleanty done at the parks. it really doesn_t get crowded until dec 21st. next week is actually an ideal time to go cuz the crowds are light and the christmas season is in full swing.

    have fun!

  • They are the same price, but the advantage is you don_t have to wait in line. And it sounds like you will hit the Christmas crowd, meaning it will be insanely busy. So I would highly recommend buying them ahead of time. However, don_t listen to some of the advice given - don_t buy except from an authorized dealer. Like you said, buying from Disney direct is best. EBay is not a legitimate place to buy tickets.

You cannot purchase extra hours. On certain days in certain parks, guests staying at a Disney resort ONLY are eligible to either go in early or stay late. You cannot purchase this benefit - you receive it for free if you are a resort guest.

  • We just got back a few weeks ago and I strongly recommend buying them online. It just saves so much hassle once you get to the parks. Also, if you check it out online, you can purchase better package options (disney dining plan, etc.) while having time to decide what you do and don_t need. The extra hours are great for riding those rides that the lines were just way too long for earlier in the day.
Hope you have a great vacation!

  • if it is the same price either way then go ahead and buy them at the park.If you start they day of when they open just go to the back of the park first and work your way to the front. That way you get on more rides and wait in less lines.

  • They_re the same price, but if you buy and print them online you don_t have to wait in the ticket line! That ticket lines get long and everyone tries to cut you... (shudders).

  • A friend told me the best deal was to buy them on ebay. I have never tried it but I suspect he is right:

    http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-

  • probably online, you never know someone could be selling them

What state has nice weather most of the time?|145675

I don_t care about storms or rain, but what state doesn_t have really cold winters and really hot summers? A state that just has _medium_ winters and summers?

  • well dont move to north idaho unless you want 6 feet of snow every winter! (i gotta get out of here!) id say washington or oregon because thats where im looking for the same reasons

  • Its hard to find one without either cold winters or hot summers but the Arkansas area or northern Texas isn_t too bad.
  • Can someone explain to me why Texas clubs close at 2am and they stop serving alcohol?|185027

Why cant you buy hard alcohol after 9pm and beer after midnite? Also why cant you buy hard alcohol on a sunday and you cant buy beer til after noon on a sunday? I really dont get this... Thanks in advance

  • Because in TX you should either be either back home getting laid or passed out by 2am. If you haven_t accomplished this by 2am, then the night is lost and it_s time to pack it in and try again tomorrow...

  • its usually not a state law its a county or city ordinance. and you can always go party somewhere else. the people who passed those laws had an nterest in mind when they did its not for you to always understand but if you live their and participate in the community go to the meetings and learn something. like it or not its politics and like I said before people live there so its their rules.

  • That_s how the Law is. Check this out for a better Overview. Its not just in Texas but all over the country with a few minor exceptions and variations.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol_law

  • You_re lucky if you_re in a county in Texas that allows even that. Where I went to college in San Marcos, TX, they closed the bars at 12 Sunday through Friday and at 1 on Saturday. I don_t the explanation to exactly why they sell and serve alcohol the way they do in Texas. Sorry!

  • now I cann_t but if it is a problem for you come to Hamburg. Hamburg Reeperbahn is open especially for you 365 day a year 24 hours a day.
    Greetings from Hamburg, Germany
    Heinz

  • It_s the Man.

  • State laws, Oklahoma is the same way. It_s worse though the beer is only 3.2%. Most places in Oklahoma you can buy beer until 2am. I like florida better you can party until 6am if you want to .

  • similar lows are in n.j.and other states.this low is to stop the villain_s ,earlier and have better control an the Small towns,is a good low

  • The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) is notoriously strict. In fact, they have even been known to go INTO bars to arrest people for being intoxicated (_public intoxication_, since bars are considered public space in Texas).
That said, there_s after hours BYOB clubs in Texas as well.

  • Laws made a long time ago. For example, where I live no alcohol is sold Sunday mornings until 1:00 pm. This law was passed like a century ago to keep people from going to church drunk. Re 9 pm _ midnite, I guess they want people to stop drinking early enough so they won_t have too much of a hangover the next day at work and be unproductive, costing employers $$.
    Just a guess.

  • Guess what? I live in a dry county which means alcohol isn_t sold period....doesn_t matter if it_s Sunday or Friday, no alcohol for us (or surrounding counties either). I live in the heart of the bible belt...

  • Kansas is the same way, Liquor stores close at 11, Bars close at 2, and no liquor on Sunday (in most counties/cities) Alcohol is legal, but it is still controlled.

  • a puritanical attitude towards vices persists to the present day.

  • Right or wrong Texas is still in the Bible Belt and the churches have a lot of power. They want the stores closed until after church and they usually get their way

  • Government made the laws to promote more safety on the roads and in bars/clubs.

  • TX is a pretty close minded and backwards state, what do you expect?
  • How many hours does it take to drive from Arizona to Montana?|184546

What is the best beach to visit in southern California in December/January?|184142

We are from Alberta and are visiting California for a day while were in Las Vegas. Were looking for a nice beach to visit (not necessarily swim) while were there. Nothing too crowded and preferably not too far from Vegas. Thanks!

  • Any beach in So Cal will be at least 280 miles / 450 Km. or more from Las Vegas. Most beaches won_t be very crowded because (to us) it_s too cold, and windy there during December and January. I guess being from Alberta you_ll think it_s bikini weather. Pick anywhere from San Clemente in Orange County, to Malibu in Los Angeles County.

  • Venice Beach Santa monica or Malibu

  • Zuma Beach in Malibu, Will Rogers, Santa Monica Pier.

Do you have a specific, favorite place or National park you love to visit?|182051

If so, why? I love the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore in northern, lower Michigan. The sanddunes and Lake Michigan and Glen Lake take my breath away every time I visit. What_s your favorite park?

  • Yosemite will blow you away. There is so much concentrated in one small valley that it will just blow you away. The Sequoias will leave you with a kink in your neck from looking up. Waterfalls everywhere. Spectacular hiking of all levels. WOW! Stay at the main lodge if you can manage it. At least check it out.

Everglades is interesting but you_re better off viewing it from one of the commercial airboat rides on the park_s northern edges. Don_t stay in the park unless you love being total mosquito bait at night. The canoing is pretty good though.

  • I love West Virginia -- Pipestem. Very far away from everything. Gorgeous views, great hiking, nice golf.

  • It_s hard to decide, since I_ve been to over 20 national parks and national forests and national seashores...

Out west, for wildlife viewing, plus geyers and waterfalls, it_d have to be Yellowstone National park, since I saw a bison, elk, a moose, and antelope while hiking...plus you can canoe, raft, bike, etc..Mt. Lassen National Park in CA is a close second as far as mountains, mud pools, and steam vents go.

In the south, I love Cape Lookout Nat_l Seashore in North Carolina, since I_ve sailed and sea kayaked out to it, and that_s the only way you can get to it.. It_s composed of a number of isolated barrier islands with a lighthouse on it..pristine beaches..dolphin pods feeding..migrating birds..I actually stepped on a skate (similiar to a sting ray, without the barb) while walking to shore after swimmming from the sailboat to the beach (no I_m not rich, I was guiding a trip).

In the southwest, I_d say my best trip was canoeing on the Green River through Canyonlands, since I saw mule deer, hiked to ruins, camped in total isolation on gorgeous ledges...though the Boundary Waters and Voyagers Nat_l Park in Minnesota had incredible amounts of wildlife..I watched a family of eagles from my campsite that were teaching their young how to fish..and I got barked at by otters after I accidently canoed too close to them..I didn_t enjoy the bear encounters tho...

Recently I canoed for a week in the Okeefenokee Swamp in GA, and camped on platforms, and saw a lot of egret/ibis_s, an alligator and even a lynx who liked to hang out at the one island we camped on..

    Happy trails!

  • Yosemite...Spent a few days there for our honeymoon. It was the most amazing place I have ever seen. It will blow you away!
  • What city in the Orange County (or other counties around it) can you see the most stars?|180691

I_m interested in relocating to a city or town that you can see a lot of stars in. Also, a more eco-friendly place, but I_m more interested in the stars. And by stars, yes, I mean celestial bodies.

Also, is there any site that can find cities with qualities you_re looking for?

  • Unfortunately you can_t see stars in any cities, because of the lights..

I live in a city in the midwest, have a deck on the roof above the second floor, so I_m above the lights, and still can_t see well.. even with the big telescope....
  • Does immigration in the united states check all overseas visitors for criminal records when they arrive?|142681

I am planning to travel to Hawaii for 2 weeks as part of my honeymoon. My partner has a previous criminal conviction and just wanted to know whether immigration will find out if it is not declared?

  • Normally, the airlines enter all dates before departure and are transfering them to the us authorities. When you arrive in the US, the entry will be refused and you have to fly back nearly immediately, in the worst case on your own expenses.
Some years ago, I had a client who was previously convicted ( drugs ) and he flew to Chicago and the authorities sent him back on the next plane.
So , I think, it could be wiser to apply for a visa.

    Have a nice day

    K.

  • If you need to get a visa to travel to the US, then yes, it is likely that the consulate will discover the past conviction. Your partner should answer the question on the DS-156 honestly, because they will deny the visa based on fraud if he/she says they have never been convicted, and then the background check finds it

  • yes, they will find it. Passenger manifests are supplied to Customs and Immigration no later than when your plane takes off. they run the names and it will be discovered. Depending on what the conviction was for, even if s/he does declare it, it may be grounds to deny entry any way.

  • Your partner had better come clean and declare it, because hiding or trying to hide a previous conviction would not be a good way to start your married life together no matter where you go on your honeymoon.

  • Dont worry about it. I_m from michigan and traveled to hawaii in november. I didn_t know it at the time but i had a warrant for my arrest. No one stopped to ask me any questions.
  • What are some cities to relocate to for young married couples?|154802

See, we live in a small town where there is nothing to do AT ALL. We use to live in New York City and had to move back for family issues. Me and my wife are looking to relocate somewhere where there are careers, schools, shopping, and the _city life._ Of course, not too costly. We need some help.......we are open to any ideas.

  • There are a lot of places to live near NYC, like Hoboken, NJ or Brooklyn that are really great, residential places to live. You can really easily access NYC from these places.

Also, Washington, DC is a great place to live. Fantastic restaurant, bars, cultural activities. If you live in Rosslyn or Alexandria you can take the Metro into town.

  • How cheap can I get a last minute holiday to Florida around Xmas time?|132480

And does anyone know how hot it_d be that time of year?

  • I went to Orlando last December. The temp was in a high 70, it was great. I waited untill 7 weeks before i wanted to go and got a flight from Gatwick (virgin) for 300 pounds and booked at the International Inn for 7 nite_s it cost 190.pounds including breakfast, and for 2 people....you only pay for the room in the State_s not per person. I was in International Drive so next to everything. The only thing which i would tell you to look out for is the taxi_s from airport to hotel....get a quote before you get in the cab....they can rip you off.

  • Try Last Minute or Opodo online. Both below.

  • The weather will be quite pleasant that time of year, but _cheap_ is NOT what you_ll be spending to go to FL around Xmas, that_s super peak season, and everything will be priced at a premium. Now, if you_re willing to go between Thanksgiving and Christmas, then you_ll probably find a heck of a great deal, but plan on being out of there before Christmas week. Good luck!

  • i live in orlando year around, and in december it is still around 70 in the day, and 50s at night. i have a pool, i swim year around

  • it depends on who the gift is for but you can go as gheap as $10 for a good gift for parents and grandparents!!!!!

  • It is going to be very difficult to get a cheap flight to Orlando anywhere near the holdiay rush. The week between Christmas and New Year_s is their busiest week.

I would advise getting your airline arrangements made ASAP.

  • its cold here too! just because we are in the south doesnt exclude us from winter in the northern hemisphere...we ar in the northere hemisphere to!!!...go to Austrailia its summer there

  • Last minute around Christmas is going to be hard. It is a popular area for people to go for vacation and rooms will book month in advance. You may be able to find a room available, but you won_t likely find a lower price. A lot of hotels won_t even offer discounted rates around Christmas time, just because there is no need to.

It also depends on what you are wanting to do. If you are wanting to go to Disney, it is almost definite that you won_t get a discount. And, what Disney does with discounts, they put a code out a few months before travel (currently for dates in August and September) Since Disney can sell out of rooms pretty quickly, or particular room types, most people book months in advance and then they apply or their agent applies the discount when it comes out. It isn_t guarenteed that this discount will come out, Disney does not offer last minute specials and if they do it is for Florida residents, and if you wait too long to book, you may not be able to get any discount or you may not be able to find a hotel.

If you are just wanting to be in the area, then you can usually find a room. You just can_t be real specific about where you stay. Usually, offsite hotels offer the lowest rates if you book directly with them. Other than that, you can try a site like Priceline. I_m not a real fan of these sites, there can be a lot of problems, they aren_t real accurate and many times you don_t save any money, sometimes they charge more. But, you could try Priceline and put in a really low rate, you may get lucky. Just be aware, that you don_t always get what you ask for on Priceline, i.e. location, stars, etc. If you do something like this, you should go ahead and try to book now. Waiting till the last minute can be bad because you never know what will happen. If you book your air now, for the best rates, you may not be able to get a room later. But, if you wait to book your air until you have your room, the air my double or trip in price. I had a friend that was going to go on a trip with me in September, I told them to get the air once I had all of the reservations set up. They decided to wait. When I told them to purchase it, the price was like $220 per person. They looked a week or so ago and air is now $900+ per person, for September.

December if really beautiful in Orlando. The highs will be around 70, lows around the 50s. Mornings and nights can be chilly, so you will want a sweater or jacket. But, in the afternoon, the sun can be pretty warm, so a lighter shirt would help. If you plan to be around the water, it can also be a little chilly. If you are used to cold, snowy winters, it won_t be a problem for you and most people can still swim. It is never really cold, but it can be a little on the cold side if the sun doesn_t come out.

  • I would try to go the first 2 weeks of December. The week of Christmas is crazy with the crowds.

I don_t know what the weather would be like, but I would assume it would be better than freezing. However, I have seen times when the temps get to 32 F or lower. But that isn_t the norm.

You should shop around for the best deals. but don_t wait too long! And once you have made a decision and purchased your tickets, don_t keep going back to see if they get cheaper! you will only get depressed if you find something for less than you have already paid. (my sister does this all the time _ it drives me crazy!)

  • try here
    http://www.gogowwv.com/home/default.asp

  • The two weeks before C-mas at Disney has the best deals. You won_t be disappointed. C-mas time and New Years are the busiest time for Disney. We went in 2004 and had a terrific time, but a cold front had just come in and it was 40 for the high... but then again, it snowed in Texas... that doesn_t happen often. The neat thing about c-mas time is how pretty the park is. At night, on main street, Disney blows tiny bubbles in the air and it looks like snow... and at MGM there is a light show on the back lot that is unbelievable. They have a big lighting ceremony. Wonderful. We were there for C-mas day and we went to Epcot to listen to the c-mas story. Disney has a famous person come and read it while a beautiful choir accompanies him... we saw Gary Sinese Good time. You won_t be disappointed. Go early for cheaper rates.

Since i live in San Francisco and drive all the way down there for about 200 miles, I am also planning to go some other places around the castle. Therefore, please give me some suggestions where some other places we could sight seeing. Thank you very much.

  • Cambria is a quaint town a few miles South of San Simeon, lots of art galleries, shops and cute restaurants, nice walk along Moonstone Beach too. Cayucos is just South of Cambria, it_s a bit larger. South of that is Morro Bay, which has great shopping and a cute little aquarium on the bay. Enjoy your trip!

  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of living in Yorkville, Illinois?|152495

I am interested in relocating to the United City of Yorkville in the future. What are the advantages and disadvantages of living in Yorkville and what does the United City of Yorkville have to offer for its residents?

  • I lived near Yorkville at one point...Sugar Grove. The advantages are that the housing costs are cheaper than in many of the other suburbs. Yorkville is growing. They have a new Jewel, a new Menards. Fast food is starting to pop up there. There used to only be a McDonalds, a BK, and a Taco Bell/KFC. Subway is there now along with Wendy_s.

Club 47 is a nice little gym. The city is growing so I would expect home values to increase there. It is out of the way and the pace of life is slower.

  • The train is actually a great idea if you have one of those passes where you can get off a couple of times. Since - you can sleep on the train so that will cut down on hotel spending.

However - gotta tell you - if you were my kids I_d say - pick a shorter trip cause you will run out of money wouldn_t it be better to spend 2 weeks not so far away and be able to do more with your money?

  • welll you have to get a job. Thats for sure. I guess you have to take lot of lifts.
  • Whats the best hotel in Las Vegas, planning a wedding and bring 2 kids, (7 and 11 yrs old)?|151428

I am planning to get married in Vegas in October. We are trying to figure out the best options for the wedding either at a hotel or a wedding chapel. We have about 25 people and need about 10 rooms. Plus, I want to bring my 2 kids (7 and 11 years old) with us and need something fun for them to do. Of course we plan on going to the Hoover Damn. Any Suggestions? I guess there are 3 questions there!

  • All of the big hotels on the Strip are great. I go to Vegas regularly and the most important things to me to be considered are location, and price (and in the summer you want to consider the hotels pool area.) So, I suggest that you stay on the strip in the center of all of the hotel locations so that you can walk to see all of the hotels and casinos, and all of the free attractions. The best place to stay to do that is in one of the hotels on or nearest to Flamingo Rd _ the Strip. At that corner is Caesars Palace, Bellagio, the Flamingo, Ballys, and the Paris hotels. I am not saying you need to stay in one of these but stay close to them.

Since you are getting married I suggest staying in one of the top of the line hotels like Caesars, Bellagio, Wynn, or the Venetian. Those are the top 4 hotels on the strip.

The next thing to consider in picking the BEST place is price. Rates go down in the summer (and again after Thanksgiving, until about mid-January (except new years eve when prices double)). So October is not a price discount time of year. But if you will be booking 10 rooms the hotel should give you a good deal, maybe even a group rate. Its also more expensive in all Vegas hotels on Friday and Saturday nights by $40 to $60 more. So to get a lower rate plan to go to Vegas on Sunday and stay through Thursday night.

I have stayed at Mandalay Bay, Excalibur, MGM, Monte Carlo, Paris, Bellagio, Caesars, the Rio, the Flamingo, Ballys, and Harrahs. But the BEST place for me when I go is who has the best price. You can probably get lower priced rooms at the Circus Circus, Sahara and Rivera on the north end of the Strip, the Tropicana on the south end, and also at the hotels on Fremont Street. The Tropicana is one of the older hotels that has not been renovated like many others. The other locations will place you a long way from the center of the strip action and youll have to take a bus or taxi to Strip action. In addition, if you need to run to the room for a little R_R, its a long ways.

There are lots of things for kids to do in Vegas and you do not have to stay in a particular hotel for them to enjoy them. While the Circus Circus Hotel has the big arcade and circus for kids you can stay anywhere and still go there for those activities. Remember that parking at all of the hotels is free, even the valet parking. Most hotels have an arcade and there is also a place called Game Works which is on the strip near the MGM hotel/across from the Monte Carlo Hotel. It has just about every video game that kids could want to play.

When you go to Las Vegas these usual things you will want to see for FREE:

    1. Number one on my list is to watch the fountains displays in front of the Bellagio hotel. It usually runs every 15 minutes in summers starting at 3:00 PM; runs continuously until about midnight. Each show is different (there are more than 20 different tunes choreographed) so stay and watch at least 2 or 3. ALSO, go inside the Bellagio hotel to its lobby and view the beautiful glass sculptured ceiling AND the seasonal floral arrangements in the Atrium.

    2. The Sirens of TI show (spectacular) in from of the Treasure Island Hotel; it runs every 90 minutes starting at about 4:30 PM. Simply stand on the sidewalk in front of the TI Hotel.

    3. The volcano erupt in from of the Mirage Hotel; starting at dark until midnight. Again, just stand on the sidewalk in front of the hotel.

    4. Go down to Fremont Street and see the light shows. There are usually 3 or 4 different shows, starting after dark (about 8:30PM) and lasting about 5 or 10 minutes each.

    5. Go to the RIO hotel to see the Masquerade in the Sky show. It is like Mardi Gras parade, only suspended from the ceiling over the gambling floor. It runs every 60 minutes starting about 3:00 PM; the last show starts at 9:30 PM..

    6. Go in Caesars Palace and walk through the Forum shops to the first fountain (its spectacular) then take the first fork to the left to go see the aquarium. Then continue on through the shops to the second fountain and wait for the show to start.

If you are a Star Trek Fan, go to the Hilton (off the strip) for _Star Trek The Experience_; it cost about $30.

MOVIES: There are movie theaters in the Palms (multiplex) and also another on the Strip across the street from the Monte Carlo hotel, near the MGM hotel.

BOWLING: If you like to bowl, there are alley_s in The Gold Coast Hotel/Casino (beside the RIO) and in the Orleans Hotel Casino. .

ACT LIKE A KID: If your kids like roller coasters, there are roller coaster rides at the NY, NY hotel/casino, at the Sahara Hotel/Casino, and, for those with a strong heart, three rides at the top of the Stratosphere Tower.

  • Many casinos in Las Vegas have chapels inside, so the question is really where do you want to get married? If at the casino, then just pick the one that interests you the most. As far as the best, it really comes down to personal preference. If you have kids then you will not want to stay at one of the casinos that is merely high-end but one that also has pools and other entertainment options for them. I think Caesar_s might be a good choice for you and your family, or perhaps the Mirage. The Venitian is nice as well. I suggest looking into each and seeing what offers the most of what you want. In Vegas you can get pretty much anything you want, you just need to be willing to pay for it, and based on what you wrote I imagine you are. As far as a trip to the Hoover Dam, I suggest renting a car and driving there. It is really not that far of a drive and gives you a chance to get away from the Strip. Of course why not rent a limo if you have the money to spend. Again, if price is no option, you can do whatever you want. Maybe a helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon; you can get a flight and brunch at the bottom of it for around $350 a person I believe. Enjoy your wedding!

  • Circus Circus is good for kids but my favorite Vegas hotel is the Imperial Palace. It_s relatively cheap (compared to others on the strip) and it_s centrally located on the strip which means easy access to all the other hotels. It_s not as nice as some of them so if you want nicer, check out the Excalibur and I think Cesaer_s Palace is okay with kids. Make sure you check in advance because some hotels do NOT want children in them. They may let them stay but they_re not really welcome. For example the Bellagio frowns on strollers in the lobby. That isn_t an issue for you but what do you want to bet they wouldn_t be thrilled with 2 extremely excited kids either. As far as things to do...Ronn Lucas is a great ventriloquist. His humor is kid friendly but funny for adults too. It_s stuff that has a double meaning but kids only get the _kid meaning._ Type Ronn Lucas into Youtube and you_ll get some videos. There are also some magic shows in the afternoons that are basically for kids. Blue Man Group is a lot of fun and of course, completely kid friendly.

Random Tip: Make sure you watch your children while on the strip. There are lots of advertisements that you may not want them to see. Many of these advertisements are handed out by people in the form of baseball card-sized cards. While I_ve never seen them hand the cards to children, most people that take them realize what they are and throw them on the ground so they aren_t exactly out of view.

  • That is a good question. Actually, you may want to look into the condos that are off the strip. They have the kitchens and multiple bedrooms. I know about this because my friend actually got married in her timeshare. She had the priest go to the condo and perform the ceremony there. Everyone sat and ate as long as they wanted and enjoyed themselves.
That is what she did. You should consider taking the kiddos to Circus Circus, too. They can play lots of games. (Expect to bring home tons of stuffed animals as they are so easy to win there)

  • We married in the Victorian Chapel of LC of F

    http://www.littlechapel.com/-the
    staff there are AWESOME!

We stayed at Stratosphere-it has 2 pools, and rides at the top.

We took a bus tour to Hoover Dam that we booked through Expedia.com-it was great because it got us out of the city for a day break.

  • I will look into getting married at the Excalibur. They have a beautiful chapel and great wedding package starting at $395. If you stay there and get married there, they will add a few freebies.

    http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/excalibur

  • An H2B visa in the U.S. is NOT a visiting or tourist visa...it is a work visa and requires an employer to sponsor her and a contract for a job. If she simply wants to visit the U.S., she needs a B-2 tourist visa. See site below and follow instructions there. You , actually, can do nothing to help her. It will give you a good idea on the distance from one to the other. Then call a taxi cab company from Bay Head and ask them how much it_ll be for a cab ride to Seaside

  • True, but you can get there DIRECTLY by Nj Transit Bus. NJ Transit has a couple buses a day that go to and from Seaside from Newark, NJ and Jersey City, NJ. I believe it_s bus number 67, but I would consult their website just to make sure. Also, check their summer schedule for exact times. Like I mentioned, they only send 2-3 buses a day there. If this still doesn_t work for you, then taking a cab from Bay Head is the ONLy way, but it will be expensive I_m sure due to these ridiculous gas prices. Do you HAVE to go to Seaside Heights? NJ has plenty of other nicer beaches in my opinion that you can get to via public transit easier such as Belmar, Pt. Pleasant, Long Branch, and even Atlantic City.

What were the main cause of New Orleans flooding?|124654

I know one of the main causes was the levees breaking, but that can_t be the only one.

Can someone please help me and list the main cause New Orleans was destroyed.

  • Katrina would have been a catastrophe even if New Orleans_ city-proper had not flooded. Realize the storm wrecked an area of almost 90000 square miles, which is larger than all of Great Britain. Much of the Mississippi coast still looks like Hiroshima after the atomic bomb.

However, the city-proper flooded because the US Army Corps of Engineers built poorly-designed flood-walls along drainage canals connected to Lake Pontchartrain. The walls failed at the height of the storm surge, with water levels almost 13 feet above sea level. That is what caused the horrific scenes you saw on TV, with people trapped on their roofs, etc.

In February of 2008, a federal judge agreed the city flooded due to negligence by the federal government (the US Army Corps of Engineers is a federal agency). However, he also ruled the federal government has immunity from liability for negligence.

  • Hurricane Katrina of the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season was the costliest hurricane, as well as one of the five deadliest, in the history of the United States.[3] Among recorded Atlantic hurricanes, it was the sixth strongest overall. Hurricane Katrina formed over the Bahamas on August 23, 2005, and crossed southern Florida as a moderate Category 1 hurricane, causing some deaths and flooding there before strengthening rapidly in the Gulf of Mexico. The storm weakened before making its second landfall as a Category 3 storm on the morning of Monday, August 29 in southeast Louisiana. It caused severe destruction along the Gulf coast from central Florida to Texas, much of it due to the storm surge. The most severe loss of life and property damage occurred in New Orleans, Louisiana, which flooded as the levee system catastrophically failed, in many cases hours after the storm had moved inland.[4] The federal flood protection system in New Orleans failed at more than fifty places. Nearly every levee in metro New Orleans was breached as Hurricane Katrina passed just east of the city limits. Eventually 80% of the city became flooded and also large tracts of neighboring parishes, and the floodwaters lingered for weeks.[4] At least 1,836 people lost their lives in the actual hurricane and in the subsequent floods, making it the deadliest U.S. hurricane since the 1928 Okeechobee Hurricane. Economist and Crisis Consultant Randall Bell, brought into the area after the levee failures, writes in his book, Real Estate Damages, _Hurricane Katrina in 2005 was the largest natural disaster in the history of the United States. Preliminary damage estimates were well in excess of $100 billion, eclipsing many times the damage wrought by Hurricane Andrew in 1992.[5]_ The storm is estimated to have been the costliest tropical cyclone in U.S. history.

The levee failures prompted investigations of their design and construction which belongs solely to the US Army Corps of Engineers as mandated in the Flood Control Act of 1965. There was also an investigation of the responses from federal, state and local governments, resulting in the resignation of Federal Emergency Management Agency director Michael D. Brown. Conversely, the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service were widely commended for accurate forecasts and abundant lead time.[6] Three years later, thousands of displaced residents in Mississippi and Louisiana were still living in trailers.
As the eye of Hurricane Katrina swept to the northeast, it subjected the city to hurricane conditions for hours. Although power failures prevented accurate measurement of wind speeds in New Orleans, there were a few measurements of hurricane-force winds. From this the NHC concluded that it is likely that much of the city experienced sustained winds of Category 1 or Category 2 strength.

Katrina_s storm surge led to 53 levee breaches in the federally built levee system protecting metro New Orleans. Failures occurred in New Orleans and surrounding communities, especially St. Bernard Parish. The Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (MR-GO) breached its levees in approximately 20 places, flooding much of east New Orleans, most of Saint Bernard Parish and the East Bank of Plaquemines Parish. The major levee breaches in the city included breaches at the 17th Street Canal levee, the London Avenue Canal, and the wide, navigable Industrial Canal, which left approximately 80% of the city flooded.[39]

Most of the major roads traveling into and out of the city were damaged. The only routes out of the city were the westbound Crescent City Connection and the Huey P. Long Bridge, as large portions of the I-10 Twin Span Bridge traveling eastbound towards Slidell, Louisiana had collapsed. Both the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway and the Crescent City Connection only carried emergency traffic.[40]

On August 29, at 7:40 a.m. CDT, it was reported that most of the windows on the north side of the Hyatt Regency New Orleans had been blown out, and many other high rise buildings had extensive window damage.[41] The Hyatt was the most severely damaged hotel in the city, with beds reported to be flying out of the windows. Insulation tubes were exposed as the hotel_s glass exterior was completely sheared off.
The Superdome, which was sheltering many people who had not evacuated, sustained significant damage. Two sections of the Superdome_s roof were compromised and the dome_s waterproof membrane had essentially been peeled off. Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport was closed before the storm but did not flood. On August 30, it was reopened to humanitarian and rescue operations. Limited commercial passenger service resumed at the airport on September 13 and regular carrier operations resumed in early October.[43]

Levee breaches in New Orleans also caused widespread loss of life, with over 700 bodies recovered in New Orleans by October 23, 2005.[44] Some survivors and evacuees reported seei

  • erm because of the hurracaine? :P
that would be the main reason i_d have thought...the reason behind everything else happening would have been because of the destruction caused from the hurricane katrina...

  • since New Orleans is below sea level, they use a system of levees and canals to control the water. when the levees broke, New Orleans flooded

  • Because New Orleans is below sea level.

  • A levy breach and human error, not the storm.

  • George Bush, according to the residents.

  • How much would a NYC cab fare be from Penn Station to Yankee Stadium?|135375

I live on Long Island and don_t want to take the subway to the game. I am wondering around how much it would cost, thanks.

  • Taxis will cost you $30 and can be extra with traffic headache during the games.
You do not have choice because it is only choice is mass transit and New York Waterways.
Subways, Metro-North and NY Waterway is only option you have for best way.

    Via Subway
    Option 1:
From Penn Station, walk east to 6th Av-Broadway, which is subway station for 34th St-Herald Square.
Take Bronx-bound (B) local or (D) express to 161st St-Yankees Stadium. (B) only operates weekdays.

    Option 2:
At 34th St-Penn Station (RED line).
Take uptown (1)(2)(3) to Times Square and transfer to (S) to Grand Central.
Then take Bronx-bound (4) train to 161st St-Yankees Stadium which is first elevated station.

    Via Metro-North:
Instead of taking (4), train MTA Metro-North Railroad provide daily service to local station, Hudson Line with game day shuttle service runs between Grand Central and Yankees-E. 153rd St.
Fare costs $6.50 peak and $5.00 off-peak. On weekends, instead of buying off-peak ticket, please purchase CityTicket for $3.25.

Metro-North will bring you to game in 13 minutes.

    Ferry option:
You could also exit Penn Station and walk north to 34th St along 7th or 8th Avs.
At Westbound M34/M16 bus stop, flag for ferry shuttle bus which is red, white, blue with destination FERRY.
Take NY Waterway ferry shuttle bus 34th St peak crosstown or off-peak 42nd-34th Sts loop to Pier 79/West 38th St Ferry Terminal.

From there, you could transfer to Yankee_s Clipper which also takes you across beautiful scenic Hudson River to Yankees Stadium pier.

  • My friend, the subway is the best way to go when going to a Yankee game, specially during rush. The reason I said this is because the cab fare from Penn Station to Yankee Stadium may cost you about $30, but if you get stuck in rush hour traffic heading for the Bronx, that meter will go up very fast.

Now, since you don_t want to take the subway to the game, you can always take the commuter train instead. You can take Metro-North_s Hudson Line from Grand Central to Yankee-East 153rd Street and walk to the Stadium. There is also a _Yankee Shuttle_ service that you can take from Grand Central to Yankee-East 153rd Street.

The one way off peak fare from GCT to Yankee Stadium is $5 ($10 round trip). If you_re traveling during the evening rush hour the one way peak fare is $6.50 ($13 round trip).

I hope this information is very helpful.

    Good luck

  • You_re looking at $30 at the very least. Of course, if you_re traveling in rush-hour traffic, or game-day traffic, or both at the same time (frequently the case), it could run you well more than that. Your cab fare might cost more than your ticket.

The subway really is the way to go, it_s incredibly simple out of Penn Station. Just get on an uptown A or C train, and switch to the B or D (depends on time of day, just follow the massive pinstripe-clad crowd) at 59th Street. Get off at the Stadium. Boom, you_re there.

I really see no reason not to take the subway.

As for Metro-North, it_s a good idea in theory, but the Metro-North trains out of Penn Station don_t go to Yankee Stadium. The only MNRR trains out of Penn are the ones that go through New Jersey on their way to places like Suffern and Port Jervis. Wait until East Side Access in a few years, when the LIRR will go into Grand Central.

  • Once you get anywhere near the stadium, the traffic gets crazy because of all the people coming in from New Jersey (like me). If you_re going to Penn Station, I know you don_t want to take the subway but you can take the Metro North train from Penn Station to Yankee Stadium because they just opened a new stop there. It_s a little better than getting stuck on the 4, B, D.

    But go Yankees :)

  • Start: 7th Ave, New York, NY 10001, USA
    End: 1 E. 161st St, Bronx, NY 10451

    jump in the taxi $2.50
    15.0 km. x $1.24 per km $18.65
waiting in traffic (~11 min.) $4.57 (could be more than 15 minutes)
    Peak hour surcharge: $1.00
    Gratuity: $4.01
    Total: $30.72 or $31.00

I have to agree with _Sonic_ but you should budget at least $40 for the trip just in case you hit traffic.

    Source(s):
    taxi calc @
    http://411newyork.org/

  • abt. 25 dollars plus tip plus 1.00 extra if during 4-8PM M -F
May be more if there is traffic.

edit: I checked the cost start point: Penn Station, End point E. 161st and River Avenue which is intersection of the Subway station for Yankee Stadium.

  • Don_t be such a snob, take the subway. It is faster and more interesting.

  • 30$

  • I_m not sure what part of the country you live in, but Virginia is along the eastern seabord of the United States. It borders Maryland to the North, West Virgina to the West and North Carolina to the South. The climate is climate is fairly moderate as it is a Mid-Atlantic/Southern state, but naturally it varies across the state. Virginia beach on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean is known to be a bit of a sunshine destination, while the Appalachian Mountain range runs through the Western portion of the state. You should also note that Washington DC borders the Northernmost part of the state. Good Luck!

  • Virginia borders the states of Maryland, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennesse, and North Carolina as well as the District of Columbia.

Virginia actually has different climates in the mountains than in the flat part of the state.

What does the cup at Disney Resorts look like?|122563

We are planning a Disney trip in February and was wondering what the cups that you buy at the disney resorts look like. These cups are used to get your drinks while you are at the Disney resorts. I_m not sure if they change every year or use the same ones. Thank you!

  • It says Celebrate you! It_s a mug actually

  • Yeah they change. Last year was all about what will you celebrate.. Although I have yet to go this year I am almost certain that they will be something regarding the volunteer program. If your flying I wouldn_t bother bringing the cups..but if your driving it wouldn_t hurt just in case. I hope this helps :)

  • They change, but it_s not frequent. They only change as themes change. The theme is still _Celebrate_, but the promotion has just changed. Last year you got in free for your birthday, so it was about _Celebrating You_. This year you get in for free if you do a day of charity, so it is still about _Celebrating You_. Thus, the mug design has not been changed.

    Here is a current photo:

What are some nice things to see in Charleston, I also want to stay close to downtown and the beach.

  • How many Californians plan to leave California due to the highest tax structure we now pay?|111958

I_m moving out of state next month and am thrilled to leave this state.

  • Go for it, I moved up to state-income tax-free Seattle, Washington and absolutely hate it. At least California is sunny and has lots of stuff to do.

The pay here is WAY lower than in the Bay Area, so even with CA state tax, I *still* came out with more cash. I only moved because I lost my job. I_ll trade you places, if you want...

  • you take cali for granted I moved away and i hate it where i am now I just wana move back to the nice worm beaches in la jola CA San Diego

  • How much does it cost to live in New York?|133611

I am currently a High School junior and in fall of 2007 I will be attending New York University. I plan to move there after I graduate, and i just wanted to know if it is expensive.

  • It depends...It_s going to cost about...........
    rent-about $1000.00 a month (studio)
    food shop $400 to 500 a month
    utility bills $200-300 a month
    transportation $150 to $200 a month
just the basic will cost you about good $2000.00 the most every month......
I hope you find a decent paying part time job....
    GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Compared to LA, London or Hong Kong no its not that bad.

Compared to Iowa, or Maine its expensive.

The good thing is you won_t have your car so that one less expense. Students usually have cheaper housing but going out to drink is more, and eating out is more.

  • yeah it_s expensive, but if you graduate from NYU and get a high paying job, you should be ok

  • Considering it_s at least $1000 for a very small studio apartment - yes. Space is tight and therefore at a premium. Sales Tax is high, food is expensive, parking is a nightmare. But, you can survive without a car rather easily, there is always something to do, and it_s a fun city. Have Fun!!!

  • More than you can possibly imagine.

  • You can_t go wrong at Champps or the Metro for sure. A really good time.

  • Metro on Massachusetts Ave. They have it on Tues. and thur. It is a gay bar, but karaoke draws the straight crowd, also. Last yr. I believe, it was rated best spot for karaoke.

Also... another fun place on Mon. for karaoke is cheeseburger in paradise on the south side of Indy off of I-65. great tropical atmosphere!

  • How bad is the weather in Miami at the moment? How much is it raining?|131709

I_m looking at going on holiday in Miami from next Monday for 10 days or so, but all the weather reports I look at forecast thunderstorms. Is it really going to be that bad? If it does rain, how long does it rain for and a what times? I desparately want a nice beach holiday!

  • it always says that but it is only a little while dont worry you will be fine

  • Your holiday shouldn_t be ruined, have a great one=]

Lately it_s been raining for a while then it_ll go away and the sun will come out and sometimes it happens so quick and sometimes you kinda forget it even rained.
Today it rained for like an hour I think then the sun was out again.
Oh but be careful w/ mosquitos and just a reminder it_s humid.

  • there are thunderstorms almost every day here in miami, usually in the afternoon but sometimes in the morning too. it doesn_t usually rain all day though. but the middle of summer is not the best time to come down here, it_s better during spring or maybe early summer and fall and it will still be really hot.

  • Just come to Laguna Beach in California, it_s only 90 here!! But that_s normal for us. Just wear some sun screen stuff to protect your body. What_s funny, is that I_m east, and have to work for the next 3 weeks, 12 hours a day, and in Riverside it_s 105 everyday. Anyhow, take my advice, if you got bucks, go to the California beaches. They are awesome right now. Ron

  • There is rain almost every day right now, rainy season, but doesnt last long. An hour or so each day. Some days you may get lucky and have no rain. The weather is beautiful, more sunny than rainy or cloudy.
Definately do the 10 day vacation down here, you won_t regret it.

  • yeah in the afternoons it storms. but there are good days. Summer is the worst time in my opinion to head here to Miami. But its not overcast and raining 24/7. You_ll get a tan, just not as much as if u came here in the fall or spring.

  • I was just there less than a week ago and it rained everday I was there (4 days). However, it rained in the evenings, for about an hour or two so you will still enjoy your vacation if you go. Even though it rains, it_s still really hot.

  • they say that, but really, it will rain one part of the day for maybe 2 hours or so. mostly mid day. lol. florida weather is stupid, but overall bring the sunscreen.

  • What to do at midnight during Christmas in New York?|118708

We are a three-member peruvian family that will be in NY during Christmas time. With no relatives in the US, we want to do sort of the same tradition we are used to. This is being awake at midnight to wish Merry Christmas to each other and have dinner (even our 4 year-old kid). I understand tradition here is different since everybody goes to sleep but we have been suggested to go to NY for a different experience. What would you recommend besides Mass?

  • NY is the city that never sleeps. There are some one of a kind restaurants in NY you can eat at midnight. I would go to the giant Toys r us with ur kids(it has like 5 floors and a ferris wheel) and see some of the attractions if its ur first time going there.PS i dont know what time these things will be open. I Have some websites of places in NYC you might want to see below.

  • i_m catholic, and we go to midnight mass on christmas at midnight

o, sry just read the rest of your question
um other than mass though, idk

  • Go streaking.

  • U can go to the Rockefeller center and Times Square. It_s really fun at that time there. Good luck!
  • Where are the best vacation spots in the US for a family of six?|118227

The kids are 12, 8, 6 and 4. Disneyland and Disneyworld are out of the question, they are too expensive.

  • I can relate....I took my three kids to Myrtle Beach South Carolina. They have amusement parks and water parks etc, lots of mini golf and cheap eats...And most of all reasonably priced lodging. I would consider there. I go every year to this day....I don_t know what time of year you are planning to go but when I go in May, I can get an oceanfront suite for around $70 a night and that can sleep four kids and two adults....For example, room type H at Sea Dip Motel _ Condos....www.seadip.com
The best part is when you get to town there is about a 1/2 dozen different coupon books you can get and save big on food and shopping.
You can also get a free nice book sent to you at www.myrtlebeachlive.com
    I get one every year.

  • Depends on what you like to do.

We rented a camper and took off to see the USA. After discovering that everybody liked camping, my folks bought a camper and we continued our _See the USA_ quest for several years.

With the price of gas these days that might make cross-country tours a bit steep. In that case you might find a GOOD campground (with lots of stuff for kids) within a reasonable distance

The price of a site in a campground for one night is probably a lot cheaper than motel accommodations for 6 and might offset the gas expense for long distance trips (we went as far as Massachusetts to Yellowstone and back.) Camp cooking is a lot cheaper than eating out too!

One of the best parts was the _OK... where should we go this year?_ That was asked about 4 months before the trip. Planning the trip was half the fun!

  • How do you guys feel about proposal elimation of subway kiosks?|144304

I do not happy about that.
Also, according to Proosal Subway Station change, 81st St-Natural History_s Part-Time Station Customer Assistant kiosk at 79th St exit/entrance will be replace by 24-hour automated access.
I think that is not very great idea because stroller folks going to museum is not happy that service gate is not open and Stroller cannot fit through the HEET.

    What do you think?

  • My friend, this is going to be a major security issue, because what happen if there is a crime happening or fire in the subway occurs (lets hope none of these thing really happen) how you_re going to call. The payphone in the subway are some time out of order and the you can_t get cell service in the underground section of the subway. So if you need help, well you out of luck.

This is another way for the cash strapped MTA of milk every nikkle and dime us, just because they don_t have the money. This should be a lesson for them not to dip their hand into the cookie jar.

  • What Living History Vacations are available in the Eastern States?|108677

Im looking for a vacation about a week long (ish) that has a historical element, preferably living history. It doesn_t have to be suitable for families though I dont mind if it is. I_ve looked into Colonial Williamsburg and plimoth plantation, but I am trying to find something that require participation. This would be the first week in September. Anyone got any ideas?

  • Near Richmond, Va is a place that allows you to become a Civil War solider for a few days. That sounds like what you are looking for. The ones you mentioned are great but as you say they don_t allow participation. You could join a Civil War re-enactors group and do a battle scene. How about the Cumberland Gap area where there is a group that does Living History. Perhaps you could become part of their group for a week. Yorktown had a group of Revolutionary war soldiers holding a show. These are all ones I_ve seen myself. There is an old time encampment each year near Piqua, Ohio. Out west, you can join a wagon train or a dude ranch.
  • How much is it really going to cost to go to NY for a night?|115927

I live in RI and plan on going to NY with a bunch of people for our friend_s 30th birthday tomorrow- I_m splitting the gas with one person and will have to find an over night parking on the east side. Dinner should be about $50 and it usually costs $50 to fill my tank (which is currently 3/4 full and has about 231 miles before I have to refill.) Also I_m spending the night at a friend_s apartment for free. My parents are saying that its going to cost over $200 but I really don_t think it will... Whose right?

  • There_s plenty of free overnight parking in the streets of NYC but a word of caution...it_s common that cars with out-of-state plates get broken into...but that_s probably because the owners don_t know any better and leave stuff out in the open. If you don_t have anything worth stealing in the car, then it should be safe to park the car in the street. If you decide to do street parking, MAKE SURE YOU READ THE STREET SIGNS CAREFULLY!!! Sometimes they are tricky and you could end up parking at a Tow-Zone after 1AM and find out the next morning that your car is gone. Paying the parking ticket and getting it out of the tow pound is gonna cost you well over $200.00.

Dinner is tricky. You know how some people like to order the most expensive dish on the menu and order more than 1-2 drinks when they know the bill is going to be split evenly amongst the guests. They_ll make out like a bandit while everyone else ends up footing his/her bill as well as the birthday boy/girl_s dinner. Well...that_s how some of my friends are. =) If you add a bottle of wine too, watch out...that_ll pump up the bill considerably. Dinner could definitely go way over your $50.00 limit so be prepared.

I_m not familiar with the amount of tolls it_s going to take to get to NYC from RI. Have you factored in that amount on your under $200 budget?

Your friend probably knows NYC better than me...where do you go to watch a free show?!? =) Unless you_re talking about a bar or a club with a performer which also may or may not have a cover charge.

Good luck with your road trip and get to NYC safely!

  • If you avoid the Connecticut Tpke, and take 84/684 down from Brewster, you_ll avoid almost all tolls. You know what mileage your car gets, but gas in NYC now starts at about $3.19/gallon.
Your dinner price seems about right, and if you can crash for free, I don_t see running as high as $200, even allowing for breakfast and a meal on the road. It_s that free show I_m wondering about.
Oh, and be very careful about where you park. NYC has a nasty habit of towing cars, and you have to pay a towing and storage fee as well as the ticket before they let you have your car back.

  • that is a tricky question... it is NYC, it could cost alot or nothing more than the cost to get there.. you can park your car in the city on the weekend for well under $30, heck, ask your friend where the free parking is! .. if you don_t intend to drink or go to a club where you have to pay to get in... and not including the costs you already mentioned.. figure another 50-60 bucks... for parking and brunch the next day..

my guess.. total cost is slightly under 200

    good luck!

  • If you are talking about NYC.
It all depends on were you eat, they have cheap restaurants, and expensive ones, and if you do any shopping, or club hopping.
I just got back from NYC, and I did not spend allot of money.

  • depends what city

  • If your going to have to find over night parking, that_s going to cost a bit depending on the area. 24 hour parking can range anywhere from $25-50. I lived on the upper east side on 75th and there were about 4 parking decks located on that street and they all varied in price. I took 95 on down into Manhattan once and it cost me about $6 for toll. If you don_t plan on doing anything else, then it shouldn_t cost any where near $200, but don_t forget to factor in cost of taxi or sub.

Free printable coupons to use in san antonio?|119725

Hello everyone, my mom is in the hospital and Im planning on flying down to see her for a week and if she_s well enuough to go out take her out and spoil her a bit. Does anyone know of a website where I can print out free coupons for restaurants or beauty salons in san antonio? like buy one get one free or half off or something...as this trip frankly is going to cost me a heck of a lot more than I can afford!!! thank you.

  • There is a site called www.restaurant.com. They have gift certificates for many of the San Antonio restaurants.

There are currently 45 restaurants to choose from in San Antonio. They sell the $25.00 gift certificates for $10.00 but thru Sept. 9, 2007 they are having a Labor Day sale and the certificates are $5.00 if you put the word LABOR in the discount code box. We use this often and buy several gift certificates when they have a sale at often 50-60% off. As we eat out frequently, it is like getting $20 off the price of a dinner, which is usually better than a buy on get one free coupon. The site also has restaurants in every major city so you can use it for where you live.

Also the site has links to the restaurants sites so you can usually see the menu before you buy a gift certificate.

Hope this is of some use for you.

I pray your mother does well.

  • The best place to look for this type of coupons is SearchAllDeals. Just start with a search term like _san antonio printable coupons_. Here is a direct link to the search page:

    LAW NUMBER
    1931 PA328, as amended

HELPFUL HINT: If it makes a loud bang or leaves the ground, spins or twirls, it is illegal.

    Below are some examples of illegal fireworks in Michigan;

Cherry Bomb: Looks like a small red sphere approximately 1_ in diameter
Comet (or mine): A cylinder containing a star and attached to a wooden base. Upon ignition the star is thrust 50-100 feet in the air and continues to glow as it slowly falls to the ground
Firecracker: A little noise making cylinder up to 1.5_ in length, often strung together by fuse
M-80: Up to 2_ in length, the M-80 is usually a red cylinder with a fuse coming out of the side
Bottle Rockets: A cylinder, frequently topped by a cone to stabilize flight, attached to a long stick

The safest way to enjoy fireworks this holiday is to watch a professional display. Follow this link to

  • How long does it take to walk around the San Antonio zoo?|105415

I am goin to San Antonio in August, I am wording how long it took you to walk the zoo. I am a very organized person, and I am trying to get a schedule up!

    Thank You!

  • If it is just you 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours will do it, but if you have children with you add an hour as kids love to look and talk about what they see and ask all kinds of questions. Like any good zoo there are plaques that have a lot of information on them so you won_t sound like a dunce trying to answer their wonderful questions. Have fun

I live in San Antonio Also took my children there when they were small and now it is the time for my grandchildren

  • I am a member of the San Antonio Zoological Society. I would suggest you give yourself 2 good hours or as long as a good movie. Right now there is a lot of construction, so there are some exhibits that you will be unable to see. Go online and check out the site yourself.

  • my friends and i smoked out and then went to the zoo. it took us about 2 and half hours but it seemed like we were there the whole day.

  • you can actually walk it pretty quick because the san antonio zoo is not that large or that nice.when we went the majority of the exhibits were closed.but have fun!

What are good and affordable places to shop at in New York?|117342

My cousin and I are going to New York for July 4th. And I_ve been trying to find some cool and affordable places to shop. I_m looking for a prom dress (evening gown style) aswell. So If you know any prom dress shops please let me know!

  • Just for fun, I would go to Chinatown, that_s the Canal St. stop on the N R lines.
For a prom dress...if it is still open, you may find a formal gown on this store on 6th ave. by 56th-58th st. (west side of st.) It_s a nameless, constantly _going out of business store._ You would find something unique and glamorous, probably with rhinestones there.

  • H_M
    Century 21
    Forever 21
    Top Shop
    Macy_s

But check out department stores like Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, Henri Bendel...they might have some big 4th of July sales.

  • SoHo . Dont 4get to go to GROM after that !

I want to visit California for holiday. Where should I visit and where should I stay?|103462

I know the theme parks in LA are a must.
Where are cheap places to stay that are comfortable?
Besides LA anywhere else you recommend?
Is it really difficult to get tickets to a Lakers game?

  • San Diego is also nice lots of theme parks there too. Sea World, Animal Park, Zoo, Lego-Land (only fun if you have young children). As for places to stay your best off looking at a hotel site like hotels.com because they have rating and customer reviews of hotels.

  • Sonoma. It_s a great city in the wine country. You can take wine tours, go horseback riding in the valley, visit little shops and boutiques, visit the missions, general vallejo_s home all sorts of stuff. Staying in a cozy bed and breakfast is great. Plus there_s a ton of spas! Sonoma is just one of the amazing places to stay in California.

  • Hi -- I don_t think those theme parks are a must at all. They are juvenile, expensive, and boring to any adult, in my opinion. Much more interesting to me would be any of these:

    1. Cultural sites -- ethnic communities in LA such as Little Saigon, Thai Town, Little Phnom Penh, East LA, Little Tokyo, Koreatown, Little Havana, Chinatown, Little Manila, and on and on. Our ethnic communities and foods are just wonderful!

    2. Venice Beach -- indescribably weird. Eye candy.

    3. Museums, all over LA. Just in the Pasadena area, about five, including the Huntington, Norton Simon, Contemporary, Asian, etc. Also the Getty, MOCA, LACMA for art, and many many specialty museums.

    4. Botanical gardens

    5. Architecture: modern and historic, including works by Frank Gehry and Frank Lloyd Wright. Wonderful guide books available. Walking tours and bus tours.

    6. Concert halls, like the Music Center, including Gehry_s magnificent Disney Hall.

    7. As you have mentioned, sports venues. Not sure about Lakers tickets (link below), but if not, try for a Dodgers game.

Many wonderful hotels in town. Decide based on the itinerary you plan. There is guaranteed to be more for you to do than you will have time for.

Enjoy our great and friendly town!

  • I_ve lived in CA my whole life, and have been almost everywhere in the state.

So the best advice I can give is it depends on the person. If you_re 18-25 and looking for fun, LA _ OC is the best. If you_re over 25, and nightlife isn_t as big a deal to you, I_d rate San Francisco, San Mateo County, San Diego County, Sonoma County as top choices. If you_re a parent, I_d recommend Disneyland (Orange County area), San Diego (Sea World _ other attractions), and San Francisco as the top choices.

And, I don_t know how hard it is to get Lakers tix.

    Good luck.

  • I live in California maybe i can help/ well yeah deff go to LA also San Fransisco (it_s so much fun, they have lots of cool museums!), Gilroy (the city smells like garlic lol they have garlic festivals every july and this cool theme park called bofanti gardens u gotta check that out), san diego (sea world and the san diego zoo are musts!), san jose(lots of stuff to do including egyptian musuem so cool gotta see that!) so yeah lakers games are really hard 2 get tickets 2 though u can probably buy some on the web though lakerstix.com try anything but ramada hotels i like the comfort suites:)

  • Visit both LA and San Diego. San Diego is beautiful with lots of activites. Go on a few tours. You will love it.
