Im moving to nyc in about three weeks and need a safe spanish neighborhood near yonkers. Where is good?|194205

I would like to be not far from the city and in a neighborhood that is relatively safe and has a large spanish speaking population. Can anyone recommend some place? Possibly with good nightlife and an age range of 20-40 mostly?

  • The only neighborhood I can think of is Kingsbridge (in the Bronx). It_s also not the safest neighborhood either though there are pockets within that are okay.

It is close to Yonkers (via the _1_ subway to Van Cortlandt Park along Broadway and the Bee Line _1_ bus to Yonkers). There is a large Latino contingency there...usually on Broadway and Kingsbridge Road. There is major shopping nearby (Target - W. 225th Street in Marble Hill)

The nearby nightlife is on Fordham Road called _X Bar_...salsa, hip-hop, reggaeton. If you can find a place near Bailey Avenue north of 238th Street. or along the reservoir on Sedgwick Avenue, you should be okay.

  • Any where in the Bronx except for the South Bronx or around the Concourse up to Fordham Rd. and around Soundview. Those are the ruffest parts of the Bronx that I know of. Everywhere else is great. I love the Bronx! Rent is wayy affordable_. Keep your eye oncraigslist.

  • If a large spanish speaking population is important to you, why not Washington Heights?
  • What is the cost of a doctors visit in America?|174219

Or do you have to have medical insurance? In New Zealand a visit costs from thirty dollars and public health at the hospitals is free, interested in the comparison.

  • Interestingly enough, there was an article about that in today_s New York Times, comparing the cost of health care in Canada vs. the USA.

Check out the link below to read the article, but the short answer is that health care in the USA is VERY expensive! You MUST have health insurance because even a simple visit to a hospital emergency room can cost, like, $10,000!!

Unfortunately, the people who could decide to give Americans the sort of affordable health care enjoyed by the rest of the civilized world are all corrupt and they profit from the fact that we don_t have affordable health care, so, we probably never will (see 2nd link, below)

  • Different doctors charge different rates. There is really no set guideline an there is a huge range in pricing.

You can have insurance and the then pricing will depend on the kind of policy you have...some people pay a 10 USD deductible for doctor_s visits, some pay a little more. Some get certain testing and procedures free, others pay a fraction of those.

There was a story on the news just the other day about a family who brought in 2 salaries, paid their bills, etc, but one member of the family got cancer and needed a treatment that wasn_t covered by their policy and the only way they could afford to pay for the treatment was to declare bankruptcy after they spent all their savings on services so they could get public health services for the remainder of the treatment.

Unfortunately, this happens here quite a lot. Here_s the video of the story:

I_m assuming that New Zealand, like a lot of European countries has national health care (at least that_s what your description sounds like). The US has been trying to institute something like this for decades with no success, but it seems Obama may try again or at least try to improve the health care system so people don_t have to choose between food and medicine or between having a roof over their heads and staying alive.
  • How do I know tickets I bought from craigslist are good?|144957

The tickets are for Vicente Fernandez concert this Friday and the tickets say 195.50 but online the max price is 168.50? did I get taken?
I went to a ticketmaster store and they say they can_t verify ?

  • you dont know. got taken.

  • Even if they_re not good, you might get away with it if you just show up at the door with them. Give it a try. Best of luck.

In the future, you can find discount ticket codes from the major legitimate ticket sellers at:

  • I_d say its about a 90% chance you_ve_ been flim flammed or bamboozled dude. Never ever, ever buy concerts tickets off craigslist. Oldest scam in the book. Good Luck.

  • Call the performance location and ask. They will help you verify that.

  • You should have found out BEFORE you bought the tickets
  • Which is the best place to live in California?|108412

My boyfriend and I are moving from UK to the US soon. We want to live in California. We both like the sun, beaches healthy lifestyle etc but do not know where to settle.

We would like some suggestions on the best areas to live and why. We have a fairly small budget of amount 300,000 to 400,000 but do not mind buying a small condo.

We have heard San diego is nice and some of the beach communties?

  • I think San Diego would be the best choice for you. Beaches in Northern CA are cold and foggy year round so I wouldn_t bother looking north of Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara is very nice but small and VERY expensive. LA and Orange County have their nice and bad parts but your money won_t go far there.

San Diego has cheaper real estate and you can find a nice condo or a small house for that price right now. Prices are continuing to drop so I_d either wait to see how much farther the market will fall or buy a foreclosed property for really cheap. It_s still expensive here compared to other parts of the US but cheaper than other coastal areas of CA like the Bay Area and LA/OC. SD has the best weather in the country, nice friendly people, is clean, low crime, laid back, ect.....

If you want to be near all the action and best attractions look into central San Diego in communities like Downtown, Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, Ocean Beach, Pt Loma, Mission Valley, La Jolla, ect... If you want more quiet and suburban setting then try the North County beach cities like Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, and Carlsbad.
