Where can I find the average cost of living for certain towns or areas?|196473

I am researching different areas my family and I are thinking of relocating to and would like to compare them with where we currently live. I have tried searching on the internet, but get more confused. Is there a specific site I can go to input city, county _ state to get the avg. cost of living there? I do not need an exact figure. Just a general idea. Thanks!

This site will let you locate cities. It will tell you the sales tax, average median family income. Car insurance costs. state income tax rate and growth %

  • Here are some websites on which you can compare two cities.

  • Check the Consumer Price Index at the US Department of Labor:

    http://www.bls.gov/cpi/home.htm
  • What are the places to visit Brazil?|107382

Iam planning to go to Brazil, i want to know which month to go so that i can see more tourist and have more fun. I would also like to know how much will it cost to stay for a day?

  • When going to Brazil i think the main places to visit are as follows:

Christ the Redeemer _ Corcovado Hill, Rio de Janeiro

If you make it to Rio de Janeiro during your trip to Brazil it is
impossible to avoid Corcovado Hill and the world famous statue of Christ the Redeemer. Standing at one hundred and twenty five feet, it is Brazils most prominent landmark. Once you mount the hill to get to the statue you will also receive spectacular views out over the entire city. The idea for the statue came about in 1921 but the actual designing and building didnt start until a decade later. The statue which the designers eventually came up with and the one that looks over Rio today symbolizes Christ with his arms open embracing all the people.

    Amazon Rain Forest, Manaus

Tragic is the only word to describe a visit to Brazil without a trip to the Amazon rainforest. Home to thousands of the rarest species of flora and fauna in the world as well as numerous indigenous tribes, entering this wilderness is like nothing you are ever likely to experience again. Manaus, the capital city of the Brazilian state of Amazonas, is the gateway for all visitors to the depths of the rainforest and there are numerous tour operators who provide excellent packages which cater for everyones needs. Do shop around for the best value and try to avail of a tour which will provide anything you might need during your trip. Remember, you are heading into the wild so if you forget anything, there is no going back. Main activities, sports etc.

    Iguaza Falls

While only a quarter of the falls are actually in Brazil, the remainder are in Argentina and Uruguay, they are still an attraction very much worth your while checking out. It is recommended that you see them from both sides of the various borders but you will need a visa to travel to the other countries. If you can at all, you should obtain do so and allow at least two days for your trip. If not, you will still see plenty to fascinate you. They are located in the northwest of the Missiones and consist of 275 falls, some reaching as high as seventy metres. Added to this is the fact that they are surrounded by the National Park, a virgin jungle protecting over four hundred species of wildlife and over two thousand flora species. It is a remarkable trip offering some of the most memorable views you are ever likely to see.

    The Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro

Thanks to the efforts of American crooner, Barry Manilow, the Copacabana is something most people have heard mentioned from time to time. What they might not know is that it is one of the most famous of all the beaches in the world. Running for three miles in front of the densely populated Rio de Janeiro, the Copacabana means very different things for different people. For some it is a commercial, ultra tacky destination where they would never dream of going. For others it is the sheer craziness of the place and the people that add to its appeal. But, for whatever reason, it attracts hundreds of thousands of people every year and the one thing that they all agree on is that they have a good time while they are there.

    The Pantanal
The Pantanal translates as large swamp and lies in the midCwest of the country. While everyone has heard of the Amazon Basin, this area actually surpasses it when it comes to wildlife viewing. Home to over six hundred and fifty species of bird as well as alligators, deer, otters, emus, boa constrictors and monkeys, it is a fascinating attraction for the nature lovers among you. If youre not partial to all things wild and wonderful, however, you might be better off heading to the beach because they simply cannot be avoided in this unique wilderness.

my personal favourite is rio, as it opened my eyes culturally (as well as the CARNIVAL) and is a completely different world to the one which we live in . trust me man :)

hope this helps, have a fun trip.

  • Sao Paulo

  • The Carnaval is in February next year (not sure of the dates) so go to Rio for that. You can also visit the Corcovado _ Sugarloaf too when you are there.

For nature I would visit the Amazon or Atlantic Forests _ also Foz De Igaucu in the South West of the country.

For a laid back attitude go to Salvador da Bahia.

  • First of all, Brasil is a country the size of the 48 contiguous United States. That_s a LOT of country! You need to decide what part of the country you want to go to, such as the capital, Brasilia, in central Brasil, the beaches around Rio de Janiero, the Amazonas region, or farther south to some of the lesser known areas. Personally, I went to Sao Paulo, Santo Andre, and then traveled to the states of Parana and Santa Caterina to visit family. The buses there are cheap, so getting around costs you about $40US a day. Since I satyed with family all the time, I really don_t have any idea of what hotels and such cost, but with the exchange rate, you will probably be pleasantly surprised.
Many tourists think that the best time to go to Brasil is during Carnivale (Mardi Gras) in late winter/early spring. Rio has some great parties! Since the seasons are reversed in the southern hemishphere, the weather is lovely! Be careful if you do go at that time. Robbery is common, so don_t wear flashy clothing or expensive jewelry when you_re out and about.
For the best ticket prices, try www.voabrasil.com
We got a good deal on tickets for the off-season in October, but plan ahead a year, and you can get some amazing deals!

Good luck, and don_t forget that you_ll need a passport, and a visa from the Brasilian Embassy.
    Ivy

  • Mostly it depends on what you want here. If you like nice beaches go Northeast, Rio de Janeiro. If you like business city go to Sao Paulo, if you like some local tradition you can try south states, basic they ware populated by europeans, they kept several tradions, what it is actually very nice. If you like nature go on central or north states, where you will find rainforest.
Temperature is warm anytime, worse case scenario will be south on winter, very small amount of snow sometimes.
  • Are there any beaches near Clearwater that are good for sea shelling?|106984

I want to go somewhere close to home and look for sea shells with my nieces? Anyone know of a good place to find them around the Clearwater Beach area?

  • I have had some good success on Anna Maria Island. It_s not as crowded and easier to find shells.

  • What are some MUST things to see in Walt Disney World?|172979

Hi. Me and my family are planning a trip to Disney World in December 27th to Janurary 6th. We went there 5 years ago, but we are going back again, and they changed the parks alot. What are some MUST see things?

  • Ohana_s at the Polynesian is a great place to go and eat. Especially at the close of Magic Kingdom because you get a great view of the fireworks.

  • When you_re going, there are plenty of things to do. If you haven_t seen Wishes, the fireworks show at MK, Wishes, in my own opinion, is the best fireworks show that Disney has. They incorporate Christmas themed fireworks. Disney keeps the Christmas decorations until after January 1st. They have the Osbourne Lights at Disney Hollywood Studios. There is a lighting ceremony that they make the lights dance to Trans Siberian Orchestra. This runs until January 4th.

Also, Disney opened up Toy Story Mania, it_s much like Buzz Lightyear Ranger Spin, but it has multiple games instead of one. Also, on New Years Eve, Disney Hollywood Studios holds a block party, with Dj_s and music. It_s quite fun.

Disney has a lot of things to do while you_re there. Soarin, Mission Space, (new rides in the past 5 years), and Future World (It has been updated) are not miss things. Space Mountain is planned to be open in November, so you_ll get to experience the new refurbished Space Mountain.

Also, Animal Kingdom has the Expedition Everest, and Kali River Rapids.

  • Well, there are 4 parks, Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingodm, and Disneys HollywoodStudios. some of the things i mention will be good for mostly little kids*

    Epcot:
    mission space
spaceship:earth (its inside the giant golfball thing)
    test track
    all the countries
    soarin

and i think thats about it... for soarin and test track you need to get fast passes, the lines are really long! also, if you get tired you may want to ride the finding nemo ride in the seas buliding. all you do is sit down and watch snipets of the film bascially. then after wards you end in an aquarium, it cool.

    Magic Kingdom:
    dumbo
    its a small world (classic)
splash mountain (you dont get that wet)
tthe railroad rollercaoster (forget the name :/)
    buzz lightyears ranger spin
space mountain (if its open it wasnt when i was there a week ago)
    peter pans flight
theres a LOT more but those are probably the musts.

    Animal Kingdom:
its tough to be a bug (its like a play kinda)
    kali river rapids (wet ride)
    expedition everest (fast pass)
    Dinosaur (awesome kinda scary lol)
and the safaris if you want to

    Disneys hollywood studions:
    tower of terror
    th rockin rollercoaster
    fantasmic (fireworks show)
toy story midway mania (my favorite :)

thats about it... i know it looks like a lot but you can get through it :)

    have fun!!!

  • In Magic Kingdom go on Space Mountain, Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain.
In Epcot go on Test Track and Mission Space.
In Animal Kingdom go on Primeval Whirl, Dinosaur and Expedition Everest.
In MGM go on Tower of Terror and Rock n Roller Coaster
Some good things to see are the fireworks in Magic Kingdom and Epcot and the Fantasmic in MGM
    Enjoy!

  • I rated must sees with ***** down to *.

    Magic Kingdom:

Pirates of the Caribbean recently updated starring Johnny Depp****
    Haunted Mansion has been updated***
Stitch Great Escape? (I believe that_s what it_s called) *

    Soarin
    Mission Space was updated*****

Living with the Seas Pavillion updated with a Nemo Ride**

    The best:
The Grand Floridian (huge gingerbread house)

    The Wilderness Lodge

    The Beach Club (gingerbread carousel)

    The Animal Kingdom Lodge

  • My wife and I went last year in Dec. Here is some information on what to see in Dec. Hope you have a great time. We did.
  • What are the best places to eat near or in Disneyland?|196871

We do have a car, but don_t want to have to travel too far. Please also give me an example of how much the food costs. I am looking for some inexpensive places and a few more expensive places as well. Thanks!

  • I included a couple sites so you could look menus and prices.

    For Disneyland:

    http://allears.net/dlr/tp/dl/dl_rest.htm

I personally recommend Redd Rockett_s Pizza Port, Rancho del Zocalo, and Tomorrowland Terrace for the cheaper places [although none of them are truly cheap!].

    Disneyland CA Adventures:

    http://allears.net/dlr/tp/dca/dca_rest.h

I personally recommend Award Wieners, Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill, Pizza Oom Mow Mow, and Taste Pilots_ Grill.

    Downtown Disney:

    http://allears.net/dlr/din/dtd_rest.htm

I recommend: Rainforest Cafe (food isn_t the best, but the scenery is wonderful), La Brea Bakery Cafe, and Ralph Brennan_s Jazz Kitchen.

The only place actually outside of Disneyland _ Downtown Disney I know of is Captain Kids, and I would never recommend anyone to go there, even if I hate them. It_s terrible!

  • There is a lot of good food inside the park. There_s a place in New Orleans Square, I think it_s called The Mint Julep, which I usually eat at them I_m there. I recommend the clam chowder in a bread bowl, it_s really good. Most of the restaurants in the park are around the same price and eating two meals there can get a bit pricey. There is another place on Main Street, I think it_s called the Carnation Cafe, but I_m not certain, which I like as well. It_s also a great place to view the parade that comes down Main Street if you sit down to eat a little before the parade begins. I would steer clear of the big restaurants in Downtown Disney, they tend to be rather expensive. They do usually have menus outside though, so you can always check them out. There is a McDonalds and other fast food places right around the park as well.

  • Most places in the actual resort are really good. The pricier resteraunts are in the hotels but for lunch or something at Disneyland park I_d go with:

    Pizza Port in Tomorrowland
    Village Haus in Fantasyland
    Plaza Inn on Main Street
    or
The Country Bear Place in Critter Country

I_m not that up to date on California Adventure resteraunts but the Wine Country Trattoria is good but a little more expensive.

The resteraunts in Downtown Disney are all really good, especially the Rainforest Cafe, the Jazz Kitchen and the La Brea Bakery.

  • You can just walk down Harbor BLVD or Katella and they_ll be plenty to eat.
Ok well on the less expensive side there is a McDonald_s, Ihop, Taco Bell, Millie_s Restaurant, and a Denny_s on Harbor BLVD. On the same street and a bit more expensive Mimi_s Cafe, TGI Friday_s. Um in the Garden Walk there is aJohnnyy Rockets which is okay, O also in the Downtown Disney area there is the House of Blues, The Jazz Kitchen, and The Rain forestt Cafe. I hope u enjoy your stay here in Anaheim....O Irecommendd you visit Knott_s Berry Farm really nice there,

  • Inside the park:
Carnation Cafe- on Main St- about $10.
Pizza Port- in Tomorrowland- Decent pizza and pasta, under $10
Cafe Orleans- Bit of a New Orleans influence, home of tasty fries, the Monte Cristo Sandwich (originally only at the Blue Bayou), and beignets. About $15.

    Village Haus? NOT. Basically burgers.
The Hungry Bear (Critter Country)? As one cast member describes it, _Food so good they feed it to the ducks_.

Blue Bayou: Best place inside Disneyland, with prices to match. $20+
Plaza Inn: Great Chicken Dinner, $13

In California Adventure, the Trattoria is about it. Boudin Bakery is pretty good, with sourdough bread bowls full of chowder.

In Downtown Disney, Rainforest Cafe is decent food in a cool rainforest setting. Naples is really good Italian, but a bit pricy. Tortilla Jo_s is good Mexican, under $15.

There is a McDonald_s across the street, but by the time you get there and get back, you_ve spent a lot of time that could be used to ride a ride.

  • Granvilles steak house ($30 to $40 per preson). It_s at the disney hotel. Kinda pricey if you start ordering bottles of wine, but not too bad. There_s lots of places to eat in OC, if you head south on Harbor there_s a Joes Crab Shack and a Buca di Bepo($15-20), or go east on Katella And there_s the Garden Walk, Roy_s, Bubba gump($15-25pp) there_s an El torito near there and a CPK. If you wanna spend a little more money just keep driving until you get to Orange Hill,($40-ish pp) but be sure to make a reservation. If you let me know what type of food or atmosphere you_re looking for, I could be more helpful. I almost forgot Mr.Stoxx($40-$50+), on Katella just past the I-5 pricey but damn good.

  • At Disneyland, everything could get a little pricey, but honestly, my favorite part is the food. I_d definitely recommend trying corn dogs, which are located on main street. They are around $7 (?) but they are extremely good. I_d also recommend a clam chowder bowl from the french market.

  • One of the best places I have eaten in California within 10 miles of Disneyland is a barbecue restaurant called Johnny Rebs_ See the website below for their menu, it was really good and I_m not really a barbecue fan.

  • there_s no insider answer to this, all the places at Disneyland are trying to make over priced tourist food
  • What are some things to do in Red Feather Lakes Colorado?|195804

Where going on a trip to red feather lakes colorado. We already got a place to stay picked out. I need to know things you can do there (and maps of where they are located) Anything from shopping, horseback riding, museums and planetariums etc. No camping or rafting.

  • Red Feather Lakes is fairly isolated. If your looking for city activities...you should really visit a city. Your best bet is to take some day trips to the Estes Park area for _shopping, horseback riding, museums, etc._ You can drive a scenic route to Estes from Red Feather in about 45 minutes to an hour. There is good dining, lots of shopping, and various other activities. Estes is also where the hotel used in _The Shinning_ is located. There are antique shops and a museum as well. Red Feather is an absolutely beautiful area to visit, have fun!

What kind of transportation would be good from Baltimore airport to Washington DC--with a 6 month old?|193608

We_re thinking of flying to Baltimore, spending a day, then going to Washington DC for a few days. We_ll be traveling with our 6-month old daughter, and I_m trying to figure out what would be the best way to travel from Baltimore to DC with luggage and a baby. Any suggestions?

  • The train is certainly an option. To clarify what was said above, for those who are unfamiliar, MARC is a commuter train run by the state of Maryland. It operates on the same tracks as Amtrak. However, as a commuter train, it only operates on weekdays and is typically packed with, well, commuters. It may not be the best thing for a 6-month old.

The other problem is getting a 6-month old and luggage to and from train stations. It may be more hassle then it_s really worth. If you can, you may be better off (and less stressed) just taking a cab for the entire journey. A taxi has cost me $60 in the past, but I wasn_t traveling with luggage. If you plan it ahead of time, you may be able to arrange flat-rate transportation from Baltimore.

  • Amtrak is the best option. There is a free shuttle that takes you directly to the Amtrak station from BWI airport. She_ll love the motion of the train and you can sit back, relax and watch the scenery go by. Amtrak will take you directly to Union Station where you can catch a cab to your hotel, or Metro to the suburbs if that_s your selection.

Amtrak also has luggage check service, if you like. Much more civilized than a bus.

  • You are better off taking the MARC train, instead of Amtrak as it is cheaper and faster. To go from Balt to DC via Amtrak it_s about $30 per person. For MARC, it_s $7.00 on the Penn line.

Go to this site for more info. --_ http://www.mtamaryland.com/services/marc/

  • Amtrak--it dumps you off at Union Station, and you can take the Metro from there or grab a taxi.
  • What to do in Minneapolis, Minnesota -- and the surrounding area?|194382

My husband and our kids (boys ages 4 and 7) are considering a trip to Minnesota this summer. We have family in Pine City (about an hour north of Minneapolis) that we would be seeing. Any ideas for outdoor and indoor attractions? We usually are tent campers, but since we_ll be flying to MN, I think we_ll look into renting a cabin. Thanks for the suggestions!

  • Bandana Square, and the Minnesota Model Train Museum tcmrm.org in St. Paul
Como Park Zoo and Conservatory... free zoo!!
Mall of America...or the Park @ MOA the indoor amusement park in the mall.
    Science museum
    Children_s Museum

  • Fishing is a great one in Minnesota so I_d suggest bringing a fishing rod! As for Minneapolis, thats a big city so not alot of cabins there although near there is the Mall Of America (MOA) and its the biggest mall in america. They have a indoor water park and plenty of shopping places, I do go there often since I live in Minnesota and I enjoy it. Vallyfair is a amusement park thats really fun here also.

  • I live in Minneapolis. In terms of indoor attractions I recommend the Walker Art Center and Sculpture Garden, the American Swedish Institute, the Science Museum of MN in St. Paul, and of course, the Mall of America in Bloomington. I_m sure your kids will like the indoor amusement park at the mall, but it_s not Knotts Camp Snoopy anymore. I think it now has the boring moniker of the Park at Mall of America.

In terms of outdoor recreation are, of course, thousands of lakes. We also have the Mississippi and St Croix Rivers. Scenic attractions I recommend are Taylors Falls on the St croix, which is about an hour northeast of St Paul; Itasca State Park in north- central MN where the Mississippi has its source; and the drive along Lake Superior between Duluth and Canada-beautiful.
  • Why in the United States, the driving licence is 16 years?|103722

Why in the United States, the driving licence is 16 years, the majority 18 years and permission to drink some alcohol 22 years?

  • Permition to drink alchohol starts at 21 years old.

  • That_s a good question. I think that the answer has to do with lawmakers_ perception of maturity and perhaps, to get votes. I think they believed they had to allow 18 year olds the right to vote because they were able to enlist in the military at that age. Sixteen is probably the driving age because it is convenient for parents and there was tremendous pressure for it. Drinking leads to irresponsible behavior, so they make the age for that higher.

  • America is in love with the automobile and they like to get kids hooked from an early age. No one under 18 should drive, really the minimum age should be more like 21.

  • to give kids time to mature for each activity...not all reflexes are fully developed until later...

How crowded does Myrtle Beach get during bike week?|190451

My friend and I were planning on going to Myrtle Beach from May16-18 to get away from it all. I know it_s going to be the last weekend of bike week. Does it get really crowded? Do they go to all of the beaches and sections of Myrtle? What are the hot spots? Probably not a good time to go to relax but would like to know anything about what to expect during Bike Week. I_ve heard it_s complete craziness and then I_ve heard the participants hang out at the main (older) beach. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • you wont be able to walk the sidewalks thats how crowded it will be the center part of myrtle beach...down around the ripleys museums right in the heart of it all is where they tend to hang
  • What should I do to make a week out of Williamsburg, VA?|189760

I know about Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, and Water Country USA. How many days should I plan for each place I visit in the area? Should we swing by Virginia Beach while we are in the area? Keep in mind, I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old.

  • The number of days in each place depends on the time of year that you will be visiting there. If you go now, for example, then you will only need to visit Colonial Williamsburg for one day because you won_t have to deal with the crowds of the summer or the lines to get into exhibits. Also, you should check when Busch Gardens closes for the winter months. You could visit historic Jamestown, Yorktown and the Mariner_s Museum in Newport News while you_re there but this all may be very boring for a 2 and 4 year old. They would probably like Disney much better at this age.
  • What should I do in New York City for the weekend?|106977

I am planning to go to NYC for a weekend. I have never been there and I want to see the parts that make NYC NYC.

Please don_t advise me to see the empire state bldg or the statue of liberty. Those are obvious.
I want restaurants and hang-out spots.
    Thanx in advance.

    PS-I live in Chicago.

  • A popular way to see the city is by boat. It_s one New York City trip you won_t want to miss, and still my favorite way to get the best idea of the City. This 90 minute twilight harbor cruise gives you a wonderful way to see the city and watch the twinkling lights come on.

Some thingsyou don_t want to miss are the various neighborhoods, like lower Manhattan_s Chinatown, go for authentic dim sum and other Chinese delights. Orchard Street on Sunday mornings especially has always been a delight for shopping and eating bialys and bagels. Artsy Soho with all it_s galleries and the trendy TriBeCa. Of course Greenwich Village and now the East Village as well are always a great place to sightsee.

There are museums, not only The Metropolitan and MOMA, but wonderful smaller ones like the Frick Museum and of course, Frank Lloyd Wright_s masterpiece, The Guggenheim with it_s outstanding modern art collection. You can wander for days in these museums. Art movies have always been the thing in New York, I_m sure you_ll find a running of _The Red Shoes_ still on.

Central Park is always an interesting place to go. Located in the very center of Manhattan surrounded by high-rise buildings. Try jogging around the reservoir (made famous by Jackie Kennedy - who jogged there on regular basis). The Central Park Zoo is fun and carriage rides from Central Park South through and around the Park make for a most romantic evening.

Stroll up or down Fifth Avenue for shops galore, don_t miss going into St. Patrick_s at 50th and Fifth, and the Empire State Building can still thrill.

For even more things to do and see in NYC, visit hotelsntravel.com it_s a great site.
  • What should I wear to South Beach Miami at night?|106496

I_m in Miami for the first time and planning on going to an upscale restaurant in South Beach tonight. What should I wear? I have no idea if it_s a smart/casual setting or a super posh area.
I_m on a pretty tight budget, but have jeans, mini skirts, boots, tights, blazer jacket and nice blouses. Do I need to go shopping for something more formal?
    Thanks!

  • I_d go with the blazer, jeans _ heels.. from what I read of your question. It_s florida afterall (usually always casual).. and the blazer/heels cover you if you feel it_s a more formal place..

  • nothing formal you will get it dirty just jeans nice shoes and top

  • Your birthday suit would be just fine!

  • Wear the most stylish thing that you have with you. Maybe go with heels, jeans or mini and a really flattering top. It seems like every person that lives in South Beach is absolutely a ten!

  • There is nothing you could wear on South Beach that would draw any attention. You would probably fit in best with the mini skirt though.

  • A basic black dress fits in any enviorment at south beach. Where flats to dress it down..or where heels, jewerly to spice it up. Can_t miss with the little black dress.

  • At night I see alot of cute summer dresses (yes, even in the beg. of February) and cutoff jean skirts with fancy tops and pointy stilletos! Silver is totally in and any name brands you got that you wanna rock on SOBE will do just fine!

During the day I see and wear big-huge sunglasses and messy, stylish hair with ripped jeans and classy/cute tops and Flipflops, gotta have flipflops! Light make up... Have a blast, I am sure you will! ***btw, if you get a chance definetely stop by Nikki beach in SOBE, day or night you wont regret, they are famous for their mojitos in a pitcher lol!!

  • try for a bullet proof vest first, nah be smart and comfy just fine

  • mini---i live here.

  • I think its better you were a shorts as its a beach...a light pink is a gud colour of taste

    Friend Forever,
    Prash

  • Wear thermal underwear and a heavy parka.

    -Empire State Building
    -Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island

  • What to do with my 4 yr old daughter and my 86 yr old dad in the SF Bay area?|193099

My dad is visiting. I am a single mom of a f-yr old girl. The three of us want to do something interesting for my girl and easy for my dad (he_s not 100% able bodied) we are in the SF Bay area?

I would like to involve both. So far I have a train trip through the redwoods on my list. But I have not been able to come up with any thing else. Day trips?

    Help?

  • try renting your dad a eletric scooter like they have at shopping center and have fun.

  • Steinhart Aquarium in S.F. and if your dad can not be pushed in a wheel chair( which I believe they have) there are plenty of places to sit and people watch.

I think Alcatraz which is AWESOME! may not be handi-cap accessible but you should call and find out because all of you would enjoy it, plus you get to cruise the Bay.

  • Take a boat ride in the bay.

Go to a live show of some kind.

    Take a local Greyline tour.
  • What is the best place to live in the USA - According to these specifications?|174669

I have horriable allergy problems! I currently live in Wisconsin, and I_m not a big fan of too much heat. Okay with cold, but not freezing tempatures. The Fall is my favorite season. Is there such a place where it_s fall and light winter all year around, with low allergens?

  • I would go to Colorado personally

  • There is no place in the USA where it is fall and light winter all year round. However, I find wheneeever I go to Las Vegas or Phoenix, my nasal passages dry right up. And here in Orange County CA it is good though not quite as good.. I find that dryness is a big factor with allergies and the desert or the LA/San Diego areas are pretty good for people with allergies.

Therefore, I say to consider Phoenix or the like.

  • other than the south west not many places with out pollen pine and oak is high maybe the north west plains pollen would be short lived and the wind would blow it out quickly. sorry good luck

  • The Alaskan panhandle, Juneau, Ketchican etc.
  • Is the amtrack station in St Louis within walking distance to the metrolink?|103715

We are wanting to take our son to St Louis on the train, and need to know if it would be possible without a car. Also, any decent hotels within walking distance to the metrolink that are reasonably priced would be helpful as well.

  • The Union Station metrolink is about a five minute walk from the Amtrak station. Here_s a map:

As for hotels, here_s a list of the hotels closest to the Amtrak station. Hope this helps!

  • It would be just a short walk from the Amtrak to the Metro at Union Station. There is a reasonably priced Drury Inn just behind Union Station.

What state in the United States has the friendliest people?|189837

I_m curious what state people think is the friendliest, which one is the worst and why? Basically if you had to pick any state to live in, which one would it be?

  • Maine OR Vermont

  • Well I used to live in Eastern North Carolina...and in my opinion I believe they are very friendly people. Most locals are always willing to point a tourist in the right direction and most people just randomly say Hello and ask how you are.

  • I would definitely say Northern California.

Southern California is probably the snobbiest.

There is a huge divide between the north and south, thats why they want to split cali into 2 or 3 different states.

  • CALIFORNIA!
  • What are some tourist attractions in South Carolina?|179137

I_m taking a weekend trip, and i want to go to one of the Carolinas and I want to no wich one to go to and what are some tourist attractions there.

  • Charleston is full of stuff. There_s Fort Sumter where the first shots of the Civil War were fired. The Battery from which some of those shots were fired as well as a place with a wonderful view of Charleston Harbor. The Yorktown, a WW2 aircraft carrier, as well as the battleships anchored nearby it. The Citadel, one of the oldest military colleges in the country. Downtown is full of old style homes. There are street vendors some of which sell Charleston_s famous handmade baskets and the seafood is some of the best you_ll ever have.
The Myrtle Beach is also fun. As you can guess, plenty of beaches. The Hard Rock amusement park has just opened as well. Murrells Inlet, just south of Myrtle Beach, is world famous for it_s sea food.
Columbia is capital so there_s obviously this like the Capital building. There_s also the state museum with lot_s to see there. There_s also a few theaters that feature both modern and classical drama.
The Upstate, the what we call the northern corner of South Carolina, is full of natural beauty when you get in the mountains. Greenville, the largest city up there, has beautiful downtown district and great places to eat.

Here_s more info if you need it.

Wherever you go have a nice trip.

  • Both have plenty of attractions. It depends on which direction from which you are coming. Both have great seaside attractions. You have Myrtle Beach, S.C. There are a million things to do in that area. In N.C. you have the Outer Banks, below that is the Wilmington area. The Battleship N.C. is there, plenty of beaches too. There are civil war battle fields close by too. A half hour below is Fort Fisher plus the N.C. Aquarium, then a ferry ride over to Southport. I_ve only touched on a few little corners of each state. Just go and have a great time.

  • I hope you LOVE golf for this Union state is a golfers Mecca in the US!

Things you should never miss there...Myrtle Beach, Oconee State Park, and Hilton Head Island.

Sailing, fishing, and mostly outdoor adventures are in store for you in SC.

    Hope this helps.
    Enjoy your weekend in SC!=D

  • Fort sumter is in SC.

But judging from your spelling, you have no idea what that is
  • How are the schools in San Diego, and are there gangs?|189168

We are contemplating a move to San Diego from rural, northern AZ, now that we can afford to. We don_t know anyone though, and I_m concerned about the school system. Which are the sought after school districts? Is there gang activity? We want to give our daughters more opportunities than exist here.

What are you supposed to do with salt from the salt flats in Utah?|160497

Someone brought me some as a gift and I_m not sure what I_m suposed to do with it. Thanks!

  • First off, I wouldn_t eat it or use it in cooking.

Second, you could spread it out on your table and race your _hot Wheels_ cars around pretending to set speed records.

You might recognize the Salt Flats from the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 movie - Jack_s ship was stranded on the Salt Flats. So I guess you could claim it as movie memorabilia

  • Go see the volcano but be prepared for rain. Spend a day hiking around the national park. Go to the southern most point on the island and have some pastries from the bakery there, or have lunch.

If you_re in Kona, have lunch/dinner at Quinns Almost by the Sea. Go parasailing with UFO Parasail. Go swimming with the dolphins at the Hilton resort.

Kick back and relax. Spend time relaxing on the beach.

  • the BIG ISLAND!!!! I ove it...i went with 13 family members a couple years ago...you MUST take a guided boat out to snorkel, dive, eat, and relax near cooks corner...also must go to what the locals call Turtle Beach..kick it on the _strip...near LULU_s and the Hard Rock...all in Kona and a great time great locals great memories~~~!

  • What is the cheapest thing you bought at the Outlet near Primm Nevada and what brand? How much?|175951

I only have 2.5 days in Vegas and am wondering if the Outlets are worth the time. If not, I_ll just look for the clearance items at Caesar_s or at the Venetian where I can get $5 Banana Republic shirts. If the outlets can beat those deals then I_m all for it. Thanks!

  • I get polo ralph lauren shirts for like 20 percent of retail.
Also got shoes in one place buy and get one free.

It is a 35 minute ride south.
If you do not have time there is a hugh mall on Las VEgas Blvd. and Warm Springs. All sports of stuff. Nike store. Got nice shirts clearance for $5 and sneaker shoes for maybe $15.

Problem is I live here and will go and sometimes no buy, just keep going back to get the cheap stuff.

This place is only 12 minutes from the resort corridor.

  • You don_t need to go all the way to Primm. There is a great outlet mall not far from the Mandalay Bay on Las Vegas Boulevard South. It is across the freeway from Silverton. They have way better outlets, in fact, a way bigger mall.

  • I got a Coach purse, originally marked for $328 for $113 including tax, at the coack store.
  • What is the most inexpensive place to live in the Seattle area and surrounding cities.?|162874

I will take links or email addresses. I just need to know what THE CHEAPEST place that is less than an hour away from the University of Washington is.

  • I assume you mean renting? What_s your budget? _Within an hour_ gives you a pretty big area. You could go North to Everett and get a much bigger place for a lot less than in the Seattle neighbourhoods - only about $400 for a one bedroom or studio. Or you could go South to Renton or Tukwila, or East to Issaquah. Those are all 15 mins to 30 mins out of Seattle - more during rush hour.
    http://www.rent.com
is a good place to look for units though if you_re looking for just a studio or renting a room in a house you_ll find those at
    http://www.seattletimes.com
    or
    http://www.craigslist.com

If it_s just you a good option would be to find one of those houses in Wallingford, Fremont, Ballard or Queen Anne that they_ve converted to apartments. You_d get to be really close to school plus live in a cool neighbourhood and possibly be within walking distance to a lot of things. And they_re actually quite affordable. A friend of mine had a great studio in an old house in Queen Anne and only paid $700 per month. Another had a one bedroom apartment and paid $750.

If you have some specifics about what_s most important to you I can give you some more info. I moved here five years ago so really learned about the different areas and then a year after also helped a friend from FL find a place when he moved up.

  • west seattle is cheap, its a hole, but its cheap.
the internation district is as well.

surrounding ares north of the city 30 miles or so are as well, marysville comes to mind

  • South Seattle like on MLK blvd or near E. Marginal Way. The cheapest is a little farther south like Seatac and Southpark, but not as good of an area.
  • How long do you think itll take to recieve a package?|160093

I have a package that ships within 24 hours Monday thru Friday only. I placed my order today (Sunday) and it is supposed to ship out of San Francisco and get to Philadelphia where I am from. If it leaves the warehouse Monday via UPS Ground, should it arrive in Philadelphia and to my house by Friday or Friday evening?

    Thanks,
    Bob

  • Quite possibly - but it all depends on when it gets out of the warehouse (Monday evening vs. Monday morning).

  • It could happen anytime either on Friday or Thursday..you don_t know how they do their job.

How much is a septa r100 trolley to subway transfer?|162679

Is it free to get off at 69th Street Terminal and take the subway or bus to Center City, or do I have to buy a transfer? How do I buy a transfer, and who do I give the transfer to? Can I just use tokens?

  • when you get on the 100, give the septa employee 2.00 or a septa token. At the same time give .60 cents too and ask for a transfer. right now they are redoing the subways from 69 street to 40 th street, so their are suttle buses. get on the shuttel bus and give the septa emplpyee your transfer. the shuttel bus stops at 40 th street and follow the people and they will take you to the subway. its free to get on it and get off your stop. tokens would be easier but more money
  • What is the best way to get from Penn Station to Ship of Fools?|161988

Address is 1590 Second Avenue Between 82nd and 83rd.

MTA.Info is telling me to take the N from Herald Square and transfer to the 6 to 86st street and walk down.

But with the crane collapse will this way be affected, or is there another way?

  • My friend, the crane fell on on 91st Street, the Ship of Fools is located about 10 block south of the accident. Here how to get the from Penn Station.

Step 1: take the uptown (northbound) _E_ train (Blue Line Local) from Penn Station to Lexington Avenue/53rd Street.

Step 2 at Lexington Avenue/53rd Street, transfer upstairs (follow the directional signs) to the #6 train (Green Line Local). Take the uptown (northbound) train from the 51st Street to 86th Street.

Step 3: at 86th Street, exit the subway, and walk east (towards the East River) 2 blocks from Lexington Avenue (86th Street Subway Station) to 2nd Avenue. At 2nd Avenue and 86th Street, turn right and walk an additonal 3 and a half block south along 2nd Avenue, from 86th Street to 1590 2nd Avenue.

The fare on the subway is $4 round trip ($2 each way).

I hope this information is very helpful. Good luck.

  • Is there still free parking downtown when going to a Colts game on Sundays?|175282

Haven_t been to a Colts game for a few years and have tickets to the game on Sept. 13.
Is there still free parking available on the streets around the stadium like there was many years ago?

Can you still park at the capital building?

    Thanks!

  • I have tickets too!

You can always park an a meter on the weekends for free, but good luck finding one. I will be parking at Delaware and South streets, mainly because I have a connection there. Best bet is to find a lot 4 to 6 blocks away so you don_t have to fight your way out of the traffic.

See ya at the game, I_ll be the white guy in the Colts jersey. lol.

  • If you get there early there some street parking but any lot or garage will charge. Lots are cheaper than a garage. You can usually get by for 4 - 7 dollars in a lots. You may be a couple blocks away. If you park close you could pay $12-15 in a garage.

  • Your best bet is to park at the government center parking garage on washington street. Then you can walk down to LOS which takes about 5 minutes or so.

We_ve parked there to go to games before and it is much easier.

  • not on the streets around the stadium as far as I_m aware of. I_d say, park in a lot because some of them are pretty close and only around 5 bucks for some.

  • I have no idea.

However, if you have an extra, I_m ready to go.
  • What kind of form of Identification do I need to go to California from New York?|172500

I_m 14 and I want to go to California next year when I_m 15. I_m going with 4 other friends that are 15. What kind of identification do I need to go to California that is NOT a passport?

  • You should be able to get some sort of a state ID card. Ask your parents to help you with this.
  • Is it safe to send my teenage daughter to camp at a music festival (Bonnaroo) in Manchester, TN?|173860

My 18-year-old daughter wants very much to go to a music festival in Manchester, TN called Bonnaroo. She is planning on camping there with a group of collage students. Can anyone advise me on the safety of Bonnaroo? Will she encounter drugs and alcohol there?

  • on her own, i would not allow it.
with several friends and an adult to accompany them, i would.
    i

  • Let her go to the ******* festival

  • yes, it would be safe to send your daughter to bonnaroo, she is old enough to start making her own decisions and just like everyone else said, if you brought her up right not to do drugs and alcohol, she will be able to make the right decision on her own, not only that the bonnaroo music festival has rules and regulations reguarding the use of drug and alcohol, they strictly prohibit it, from the site i posted in the source you can find these rules and regulations, plus they also state what you should bring and not bring, in addition what the schedule will be like so you will pretty much know everything your daughter will be doing, and again shes 18 the age where you get out on your own, trust in your parenting skills that they have affected her in the right way and that she will make the right decisions when she has to.

  • Bonnaroo is staffed well and 24 hour security.. Of course there a bad things if you look hard enough, as is the case with any music festival, if your daughter is in the least bit well grounded you should have little to worry about. Like the above person said, trust that you raised her right and that she would have discipline to enjoy herself in a non detrimental manner. The fact that she_s going with peers could very well be an asset.

  • I think that you should let your daughter go. Bonnaro is safe and they have are very strict on their drug and alcohol policy. but if it does happen to get past the security, you should trust your daughters judgment and also trust that you raised her to make the right decision.

  • of course u should send her.
and chances are she will encounter drugs and alcohol but you have to trust yourself enough to know that you raised her right. you also have to trust her to not make dumb decisions that will her into unsafe situation.
trust her. you only live once

  • I think it_s very safe.
From what I hear they_re very strict on things like drugs and alcohol getting in.
Plus, she would be with friends, which, of course, makes things safer, and should make you feel less nervous.

  • I_ve been to bonnaroo several times, and never seen any drugs, and only moderate alcohol. Out of music festivals, I_d say it_s the safest.

  • She_s 18 so unfortunately (VERY unfortunately in this case) you can_t stop her if she can afford to go on her own... but if she can_t afford it and she_s trying to get YOU to send her on your dollar, DON_T DO IT!!!! The place is absolutely overrun with drugs and alcohol and sex- it_s like Woodstock from the 60_s, but every year! Yes, there are lots of great, normal people who do go there and there are a lot of amazing bands that play there, but an 18 year old- in MY opinion (as someone who has raised 3 daughters, now all in their 30_s, and someone who has been rasing other people_s kids a s a nanny for 38 years) does not have the resources to deal with the things she will encounter there. I would NEVER willingly allow or want my child to go to Bonnaroo. Good Luck!
  • How is it living in the San Francisco Bay area?|146611

I_m planning on attending a college in the San Fran bay area. Do you enjoy living there? How_s the weather, beaches, and night life? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

  • Born-n-Raised ...

SF has everything ... (well except parking LOL)

    You_ll find ...
every culture, every food, every music ...
theater, museums, movies, malls _ night clubs ...
seedy bars, upscale bars, pubs, diners and dives ...
surfers, stoners, yuppies, strippers, street walkers, and trannies ...
    LOL !!!

SF has many Neighborhoods were the flavor of food-n-people will vary.

San Francisco is a relatively safe city, and, with common sense you should be just fine. Most of the places you_re likely to go as a tourist are safe. However, here_s a few places you should avoid.

Hunters Point/Bayview - Never EVER go to the HP. Day or night it is extremely dangerous. Fortunately, it_s hard to get lost there - few buses go there, so it_ unlikely you_ll wind up there by mistake. There_s only ONE reason, as a tourist, that you would go there, and that_s to see the 49ers at 3Com. Stick to the main exits and don_t try to drive thru the _hood.

Tenderloin - The TL isn_t as bad as it used to be, but it should still be avoided at night. Some parts of it, like Turk Street just north of Market, should always be avoided. The bad blocks are pretty obvious - if it looks bad, turn around and find a different way.

Market _ 6th - This is one of the scummiest blocks in the city. Avoid it at all hours. SOMA from 4th Street towards downtown is relatively safe however. The main homeless area (their home) is around 7th _ Market, heading towards City Hall.

Haight Ashbury - Safe during the day, but LOTS of bums - calling them _homeless_ is intellectually dishonest. Expect to be panhandled mercilessly. Simply smile and say _sorry_ and keep walking. Do not make eye contact with anyone you don_t want to have a rambling conversation with. Junkietown - the area near Golden Gate Park at the end of Haight Street near McDonald_s - should be avoided at night.

16th _ Mission - a major transportation hub but also a VERY scummy block. If you take BART to the 16/Mission station, go up the escalators, on to the plaza, and keep walking! Don_t loiter around the plaza; all sorts of vermin hang out here. Things improve greatly just one block away.

    :-)
    Happy Traveling ...

  • I love it here, I am originally from Canada so it seems warm like the other answer said. The beaches eeehh... they are usually cold and foggy.. there is a few days a year that it gets hot on the coast. There are _micro climates_ in the bay area.. it could be 55 at the coast and you drive 20 minutes inland and its 80... I don_t know much about night life.. but If you go to
    http://www.city-data.com/forum/san-franc
there is a ton of information there.. about pretty much everything you have asked + more.. Good luck!!

  • The SF Bay Area covers alot of area.
The weather compared to what? I came here from Iowa so to me its always seemed warm. There are places you can check the weather by putting in a zip code. Put in SFs zip and check it. SF does have some heavy fog mornings

Beaches are ok but not tropical. Rockier than many areas

    Night life is hot.

  • amazing, just all is amazing

What do I do when I print the tickets for the greyhound?|148507

I_m boarding the greyhound soon and I chose to print out the tickets at home. Are the tickets my real tickets or do i have to exchange them for real tickets. Any tips for the greyhound would also be nice. Thank you so much for your time!

  • I don_t understand how you printed out tickets at home. Greyhound does not offer that option. You can ORDER the tickets on line...then they will mail them to you or you can pick them up at the ticket window when you go to the station. According to the site below and to my experience also, you cannot _print out_ the tickets at home. Maybe they offer that option in cetain locations...but not on their national website.

  • Exchanging them: fine idea
  • What do I need to change when moving to another state?|159898

    Hello
I am planning on moving to Naples Florida later in 2009. I currently live in Indiana and was wondering what do I have to change when I get there. I figured my license, insurance, plates. I know I am forgetting a lot of thing. What else?

  • Driver_s license, plates, and insurance have to be done. But you_ll want to get the change of address card at the post office (where they usually have coupons on moving stuff). You_ll want to change the address for all your mail (credit cards, magazines, etc.)

You will need to prearrange with your current utilities a shut off date and your new utilities a turn on date. Plus if you currently lease an apartment, check the lease for the time requirements to notify your landlord of the move in case it states it automatically renews without notice. Also check online for a new place.

You most likely will be able to keep your cell phone company and number. I know lots of people, myself included, whose cell phone numbers don_t match the state they_re in (and since a lot of people don_t pay for long distance calls, it_s really a non-issue). If you bank with a large bank that has branches where you are and at the new place, no need to change banks. Otherwise, with direct deposit, you may not even need to change banks, if you like your current bank.

  • You will need to fill out a change of address at the post office. Also, notify your credit card companies of your change of address. Notify the phone and utility companies when to stop service...also cable and internet services. Got to your doctor and dentist offices and sign a permission slip so that when you get a new doctor and dentist after moving, the new docs can send for copies of your records. You will need to close or transfer your bank accounts. Need to change your cell phone service too.
  • If I am a college student in the US, what should I enter as my occupation and employer?|159417

I was thinking I could leave them blank, put Student as occupation and my university as employer, or I could put Not Applicable.

  • Just say you are a student at ____ University. Otherwise put N/A. Especially if it is some kind of legal form where you could get in trouble for putting down mis-information-- even if you did it unintentionally.

  • Your occupation is student, but you do NOT work for the university (you pay them, not the other way around).

    Employer is _N/A_

What are the best places to eat at in Disneyland and Disneys CA Adventure?|172494

I am going in a couple of weeks and I am looking for some less expensive places to at in the park for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
    Thanks guys.

  • I always go to Disneyland on a budget and can relate. What I like to do is split the meal if it is two people allot of food that is served is really big portions except maybe breakfast.
If you are able to the one thing I would do is bring your own breakfast that is where the biggest markup is like if you have a cold cereal you like you can put it in a zip loc bag or hot cereal you can add water and then heat up at a hotel most around the area either have a microwave inside the room or at least accessible in the hotel, we even bring fruit and will just eat a banana, apple or orange it is one of the biggest saving I do.
If you are not able to do that however there is Mimi_s cafe which does have big portions it is right across the street from Disneyland right next to Howard Johnson and if you sign up online you get one free breakfast however after signing up the coupon is only valid two- three weeks after. It is one free meal you can not beat that and if there is two people sign up under two different emails and names and you get two free vouchers only once at a time that is two days worth of breakfast, plus you could share, that free meal.

Another quick meal would be La Brea
    http://allears.net/dlr/din/menu/men_brxp

at the beginning of Downtown Disney they have a Express which you can get a meal and again share if you want or they have bagels that are really great and granola and such I love there fresh squeezed orange juice it is refreshing.

For lunch me favorites are Rancho del Zocalo
    http://allears.net/dlr/din/menu/men_zoc.

they have really big portions that I always share they are mexican food and they are so great it is in Frontierland right next to Thunder Mountian they have indoor and outdoor seating and are open for lunch and dinner you seat yourself and get you own food but that is why you are saving money there. My favorites are Tostada Salad and the Burrito Sonora if you split it that would be about $5.00 per person for two.
They also allow free refills usually up to 2 so we get one soda and split it and that way after you are done eating you don_t have to carry around the soda and figure out what to do with it, you know what I mean.

Also for lunch I have gone to Cafe Orleans
    http://allears.net/dlr/din/menu/men_cr.h

and what we will do is order a couple of starters and share them we get Pommes Frites and New Orleans Gumbo or French Onion Soup for two of those sides it would be $9.00 plus tip so $4.50 a person there Pommes Frites are soooo.... good you have to try them.

I really didn_t find any great deals at California Adventure but that_s not to say that they aren_t there but the people I go with love to eat at Disneyland Verse California Adventure.

One great web-site that I use is
    http://allears.net/dlr/din/menu/menus.ht

they have every single restaurant in Disneyland, California Adventure, Downtown Disney and it Disneyland Resort Hotels, it will save you so much time and money to see the menus now and decide what fits you the best, I love this site and it is always updates with the latest. Plus if you are going in a couple of weeks I would suggest seeing what places you are going to be eating and make Disney Dinning Reservations for it that way you will be guaranteed a seat and a time to eat.

For dinner you could use the above restaurants they also serve dinner, or one of my favorites for dinner is in Paradise Pier Hotel it is PCH Grill
    http://allears.net/dlr/din/menu/men_pch.

there food is so good and really big portions and great price it is a little bit of a walk from Disneyland but it is worth it The Classic American which is a big burger and you could share it, it is $7.50 and if you split that it would be $3.75 Golden State Fish _ Chips is also great and is $12.99. They are not open for Lunch but and the breakfast is a character meal so there dinner is so affordable.

    ESPN Zone
    http://allears.net/dlr/din/menu/men_espn

which is in Downtown Disney and is only a Monorail ride away which make it so accessible they have really great Burgers and Pasta and again they have big portions.

Those are my picks and I know it may seem silly to share or seem like you may not get enough food but let me tell you, you will not be sorry, it makes me so happy to save money and be able to spend it on something else, even my mom has me plan the meals because of how much she saves on food.
I really hope this helps you and hope the web-site helps you, also just a tip if you save enough money on food you could go to Blue Bayou that is what we will do and again share the meal, which they do have a split plate fee but you will get your own Gumbo or Salad and both a big portion of the main meal.
If you do this when you get there ask for a seat by the water it is the best seat in the house, and is only requested once you are there.

    Enjoy your trip! *Jena

  • Inside the park (either park), you can expect to spend about $30 - $40 a day on food if you eat breakfast, lunch and dinner inside the parks. Apart from the restaurants, there are smaller food stands that have frozen treats and stuff everywhere, which are irresistable. Food ain_t cheap, and since it_s getting warmer in the summer you_re going to want things to drink, which are where they really make their money. The small bottles of water that you buy in bulk at Costco go for like $3.00 EACH, so it_s better to carry a small one in your bag and refill it as you go.

If you_d rather save time and stay inside the park, then I recommend the Tomorrowland Terrace and Red Rocket_s Pizza, both in Tomorrowland. Red Rocket_s is great for Italian, and they also have some great salads, and the Terrace has your basic salads and sandwiches, but the best time to hang out at the Terrace is when they hold the Jedi Training Academy. They invite children from the crowd to train with REAL JEDI! Sometimes, they even have a lord of the Sith come by to test the mettle of the younglings, and the kids are always fun to watch while they learn to use their real light sabers. It_s worth it getting there a little early, and the times should be on the schedule thing that you get at the main entrance.

Another really cool thing I love to do is go see Billy Hill and the Hillbillies in Adventureland. They play at the Golden Horseshoe Saloon, and there_s burgers and hotdogs on the menu there, plus other good stuff. The thing about the Billys is ... they_re just hilarious. These guys are all relatives with names of a Billy derivitave, but it_s not all country. These guys are all classically trained musicians and they often bust into some Led Zeppelin and rap, which no one ever expects. Their hot fudge sundae is a religious experience, by the way. Also near to the Golden Horseshoe is the River Belle Terrace, which has hot entrees and real rib sticking food served on real plates with actual silverware (as opposed to plastic).

I will recommend one place that_s in California Adventure ... it_s the WhiteWater Cafe. If you_re in the CA Adventure park, there_s an entrance from the Grand Californian Hotel directly into the park, and the WhiteWater Cafe is right near that entrance. If you need a bit of a break while in CA Adventure, go check it out. It_s your basic salad and sandwich place, but it_s an _off the beaten path_ kind of place that most park-goer_s don_t know about unless they_re staying at the Grand Californian. The prices are moderate and the food is all fresh and yummy.

I just found this link to restaurants at a glance which should be helpful.

    http://allears.net/dlr/tp/dl/dl_rest.htm

If you want to save a few dollars, there are tons of places out on Harbor Blvd across from the main entrance. Denny_s, IHOP, Mimi_s Cafe, McDonald_s and several others are just a quick walk outside, and it_s a nice break from the crush of being inside the park all day and night.

Best of luck and have a great time !

  • Do you want the best places, or the cheapest places? Meals in the park can be rather pricey.

However, we like to eat at Carnation Cafe on Main Street, which has hearty entrees at somewhat reasonable prices. We also like Cafe Orleans so we can have the Monte Cristo Sandwich.

For breakfast, I_d just walk across the street to McDonald_s. You can get plenty of carbs for a lot less than Disneyland.

Red Rockett_s Pizza Port (Tomorrowland) also has some decent pizza and pasta dishes, and you can get refills on drinks. Plaza Inn in the Plaza has a great chicken dinner for a decent price, and you can get drink refills. And there_s a little counter service window right next to the Pirates of the Caribbean entrance that serves decent clam chowder in a bread bowl. It_s not as good as Pismo Beach or San Francisco, but it_s quite decent if you don_t want to drive 200-400 miles for some great chowder.

There are other places, but those are my favs in the parks

  • All meals cost roughly the same in all restaurants in the park, to avoid overcrowding in cheaper ones. There are two price levels for Disneyland: expensive and very expensive. Ariel_s Grotto in DCA and Blue Bayou are very expensive...but nice, all other places are just expensive.

Napa Rose in The Grand Californian is stratospheric costly.

Look to spend about $10-15 per meal/per person, depending on what you order.

There are cheaper, snack type places, especially in DCA (I love the corn dog place), but even there, expect to pay $5-8/per person.

It_s best to eat breakfast outside the park, preferably at your hotel (many offer free continental or even full hot breakfasts). Go ahead and buy lunch inside the park. Dinner is your choice, but trust me, once you see the prices, you_ll be looking for dinner outside the park too, especially if there for a few days.

Food is the biggest expense beyond the ticket, for most families. You can save a lot if you eat nearby, just outside the park (actual walking distance on Harbor Blvd.).

Downtown Disney also has a variety of restaurants, but still rather costly. The Bakery there (can_t remember the name, but right near the tram disembarkation) is pretty good for breakfast, but I_d still eat your hotel_s chow, especially for breakfast.

On our last trip to Disneyland, I figured I saved over $150 just by eating breakfast at out hotel_s complimentary buffet.

TIP: If you drink coffee, save your cup. If you buy a cup of coffee from any Disneyland vendor, it will be refilled for free the rest of the day from any other Disneyland restaurant serving coffee. Good for parents of young kids. Of course this isn_t gourmet stuff.
  • Is it possible to get around Los Angeles without a car? How are the buses and cabs from LAX outward?|146417

I am going to a conference there in October and I am from NY. I am being told the traffic is horrible worst than NY. I don_t really want to rent a car. I_ll be going from I assume (a)El Segundo to the (b)Marriott @ LAX. Does public transit run from point a to point b? I am also being told that cab_s don_t come on time when you call? In fact I am being told the buses don_t run on time either, haven_t heard about the trains. This will be a 5 day trip.

  • I live in LA and have taken cabs many times to get to and from the airport. I have never had one not come on time when I_ve called for one.

Without knowing the address of your conference, I can_t tell you if public transit is going to work for you but it looks like line 109 is what you want:
    http://socaltransport.org/tm_pub_stops.p

    http://socaltransport.org/tm_pub_start.p

  • For the short distances you will be traveling, you should rent a car (it_s L.A. - it makes sense here, isn_t that strange?). There might be some congestion on the larger avenues, but you won_t move slower than 20 - 25 mph at worst. Cabs are an option - albeit an expenisve one. I guess if you will be with colleagues you can all split a cab to/from the convention.

Busses work well if you can take one bus, and if it comes at the time you can be at the bus stop - because they only run once an hour or once a half hour.

The traffic is bad heading west in the morning rush hour, and heading east in the afternoon rush hour, but I_m not sure how the traffic patterns flow around LAX.

I don_t think the metro will serve your purposes, unless you are wanting to explore Universal Studios and/or Downtown L.A., in which case a car will still take less time or the same amount of time than all those metro changes (green to blue to red to gold...or something like that).

  • well there a free shuttle from Lax, to the Marriott hotel
(Lax is Not in El Segundo but Westchester (oart of Los Angeles))
but its a shared service (meaning it might stop at other hotels
before yours) and on the return to LAX especially early morning
a lot of times those bus are already full by the time they get to the Marriott
as for taxis from LAX be advise that there is a Minimum
charge of $15.00 +2.50 airport fee when taking a taxi
    from LAX
its also very expensive to take a taxi here are some of the fares

    Fares (ordinances 177843 _ 178050 , effective 10/01/06 and 12/25/06)

All Passengers Ride for Price of One

    1. $2.65 Flag drop (First 1/7th mile).

    2. $0.35 For each additional 1/7th mile ($2.45 per mile).

    3. $0.35 For each 47.5 seconds waiting time and/or traffic delay ($26.53 per hour).

    4. $42.00 Flat fare for trips between LAX and downtown.

Area bounded by Alameda St., Santa Monica Fwy., Harbor Fwy., Cesar E. Chavez, Union Station and Chinatown.

    5. $2.50 Surcharge for all trips originating at LAX.

    6. $15.00 Minimum fare for trips originating at LAX (In addition to the $2.50 surcharge)

As forr public transit, someone told you
    incorrect information
they will come but depening on traffic, they might be late
and being at the marriott means you have direct service
from the hotel to Santa Monica, (Santa Monica #3) stop
right at Airport and Century) ; service to Culver city including
Howard hughes center and fox hills malls
there are no trains from the airport (the only trains we
have are metro rail (the Green line) Blue Line, Red Line
    Gold Line
    as well as Metrolink
it all depends where you want to go
(if you need bus info email (check my profile for my email address)

  • LAX is located in El Segundo so you won_t have to go far. Just take a taxi and give yourself some buffer time in case of a late taxi. Century Blvd is one of the main throughfares to LAX. (I use it everytime I go to LAX) In fact, you could probably walk to the hotel---it_s relatively close.

LA_s freeway system gets a bad rap. It is superior to other cities and much more extensive. You just need to know when to take it and when to avoid it. At nighttime, nothing beats it. However, you won_t be renting a car so you won_t be experiencing too much.

LA has a good subway system (Metro). Not as extensive as NYC_s but it will get you to the far points of the metropolitan area (including the San Fernando Valley, Hollywood, Long Beach and Pasadena) They have a great website with times and maps. For 5 bucks you can get an all day pass. Also, FYI, there is a designated bus that takes you from Metro Red Line Union Station to LAX--I think it leaves every half hour and costs a few bucks. It runs into the late hours.

If you stay at the Marriot on Century Blvd, then you will be in no man_s land because there is nothing to do in that area except stay at the various hotels. If you want to get away one day, I suggest taking the Metro Subway. FORGET THE BUSSES! Slow, crowded, and not very trustworthy. Remember that LA is a GIANT city, in population and size--in the same league as NYC and Chicago. Getting around without a car is time consuming.

I am a veteran of the LA freeways and it_s subway system, and I also used the busses for a short while. I lived in L.A. for 15 years.
One last thing: If you choose to take the Metro trains, ask the taxi to take you to the green line station. The green line goes east to the blue line and the blue line takes you to the red line which is located downtown. That is where Union Station is located.

  • L.A. Traffic is only bad during rush hours 6-9 am and again from 4-7 pm.

I would think the Marriot @ LAX would provide a free shuttle. Check that out.

Cabs..we don_t use them much but there are a few of them waiting at curbside at LAX. I believe you have to go to the Cab area (a guy kind of keeps things in control).

Now, once at the hotel and you want to go out and do things...that_s another story. You may need a car then. As I said, people don_t use Cabs as much in LA as they do in NY. You can_t just go out onto the street and flag one down.

Forget any trains. You need a way to get to the train station.

If you are just hanging around the hotel the whole time, then check for the shuttle from the hotel.

It_s not true what the last person said about exits not being marked. They are marked for up to 3-4 miles before the exit. You just have to know the name of the street you want to exit onto. Also, our Freeways are a little confusing for those that don_t live here. We don_t have exit numbers (at least they are working on that) , the exits go by street names. Also the freeways say _San Diego_ for example. We all know San Diego is SOUTH of Los Angeles. But for someone who doesn_t live in CA, that can be confusing.

My suggestion: Get some good maps and rent a car if you are planning to go see things outside of the hotel.

  • In the L.A. area, you are lost without a car..they have NO clue what public transportation is supposed to do.

The traffic is heavy but - believe me - the freeways can handle it. They have the best freeway system in the U.S. Your best bet is to either order a taxi to move you around or rent a car. If you rent, get a small car...easier to navigate.....and KEEP YOUR ATTENTION TO THE EXIT SIGNS. Unlike here in the upper east coast, they usually don_t give you a warning that your exit is coming up....it just is THERE.... if you are in the wrong lane, you_ll miss it.

  • I work at LAX. Transportation around the airport is very good. We have shuttles, cabs, buses, Metro Rail. Yes traffic can be bad on the freeways, but if you are staying close to the airport renting a car should not be a problem. Its when you plan to drive from LAX to...say...Orange County that you would have traffic problems. The Marriott is a great hotel and will call taxis for you, but there are generally taxis just outside their doors. If you have any more questions let me know.... kingsleydr60@yahoo.com YOur hotel should be able to provide you with a shuttle.

  • Metro it!
Most LA buses run on a 24 hour basis as well.

  • There should definitely be a shuttle bus from the Marriott that will pick you up at the airport and take you to the hotel. Where those shuttle buses pick up are clearly marked (outside of baggage claim). Taxis from LAX ARE reliable, just not cheap.

I lived in LA for almost 20 years. It is rough to get around without a car if you are planning on doing anything other than hanging at the hotel. However, if you plan on just going _nearby_, taxis can get you there easily enough.

Driving in LA is not nearly as awful as people will tell you. The freeway system is easy to understand. Yeah, there is a lot of traffic but most folks know how to drive in LA, unlike many other parts of the US/the world.

If you_ve got any sense of adventure, rent a car. If not, the taxis/shuttle buses will work for you just fine!
  • Can anybody recommend some good places to hike in the dessert or mountains near Las Vegas?|156636

Going there this weekend for a wedding. My girl and I have no interest in the city, gambling, or clubs. We want to see desert and some cool places out in the nature.

  • You have asked the right question. I spend my time in Vegas at all the scenic places. Most people don_t know that Vegas is surrounded by spectacular National Parks. Don_t miss them. Take a look at the videos at VegasNature.com. Their Visitor_s Blog has a lot of info too.

  • Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in Nevada is an area managed by the Bureau of Land Management as part of its National Landscape Conservation System, and protected as a National Conservation Area. It is located about 15 mi west of Las Vegas, and easily seen from the Las Vegas Strip. The area is visited by over 1 million visitors each year.

The conservation area showcases a set of large red sandstone peaks and walls called the Keystone Thrust. The walls are up to 3,000 ft (1,000 m) high, making them a popular hiking and rock climbing destination. The highest point is La Madre Mountain, at 8,154 ft (2,485 m).

A one-way loop road, 13 miles (21 km) long, provides vehicle access to many of the features in the area. Several side roads and parking areas allow access to many of the trails located in the area. A visitor center is located at the start of the loop road. The loop road is very popular for bicycle touring; it begins with a moderate climb, then is mostly downhill or flat.

Red Rock Canyon itself is a side-canyon accessible only by four-wheel-drive road off of the scenic loop. The unnamed but often visited valley cut through by State Route 159 is commonly, but incorrectly, referred to as Red Rock Canyon. The massive wall of rock called the Wilson Cliffs, or Keystone Thrust, can be seen to the west along this highway.

  • Mt Charleston is a great place to hike as is Red Rock Canyon, but know that it is made up of loose shale. Since the hot summer is over, Death Valley is a great place, but a long drive both ways and a very long day. Valley of Fire, on way to UT, is another site. People get hurt in Red Rock all the time.

But right in town on US95 at Valley View is the Las Vegas Springs Preserve. You can walk and walk and walk and see nature at its best plus many indoor exhibits. That would be the best option and about 8 miles from Strip.

  • Red Rock Canyon is on the western edge of the city and is a state park with gorgeous, brightly colored rock formations and is a popular hiking spot. On the east side is Lake Mead. I don_t know about the hiking but it_s a popular boating destination.

To the north is the Valley of Fire, another state park, with plenty of trails and Indian petroglyphs.

You can drive a little further and find yourself in Zion or Bryce Canyon. Both, I believe, are national parks and are stunning, each in its own ways. Bryce has some amazing sandstone rock formations cut into towers by centuries of erosion.

shows some of the lesser known hiking trails in the Sheep Range. These are the mountains you can see from Las Vegas if you look north.

Carry lots of water and hike prepared as these are real desert wilderness areas without snack bars nor toilets. Follow the trails as they are well marked, but don_t leave sight of them.

While on these trails, be observant of barbed wire fences with signs saying _Government Property, No Trespassing_. You are on the edge of restricted government areas. (Area 51 is on the north side of the Sheep Range.) If you find any alien artifacts, you can keep them, but leave the snakes alone.

Yes you may find snakes among which are the dozen or so varieties of rattlers that inhabit our area. Use normal snake precautions like not stepping over objects, but stepping on or going around them while watching the shadows. If you hear a rattle, freeze, locate the direction of the sound and back away before going around.

Snakes will warn you to stay away and will only strike if surprised or their warning is ignored. I_ve seen maybe a couple of dozen in all my years playing in the desert around Vegas. (VS my time on Ft. Irwin near Barstow, CA, where every bush seemed to have a sidewinder living under it.)

You are actually more apt to see wild burros and horses than snakes.

  • Red Rock Canyon would be what you are looking for. The views are great. They have designated paths but you can go anywhere you want and do what ever you want. You can climb a mountain if you wish. You will come across some fascinating animals and other creatures. A great place to experience the desert.

  • Hoover Dam! Bring water.

park at #13 freebie lot on AZ side.Take stairs to #11 lot, follow those stairs to #10 parking lot. Very steep. Got me winded! Walk across that lot to hoover dam. Tours inside not free. many photo opportunities!

Walking from Downtown to MGM (or vice versa) is not exactly a small expenditure. Especially on super hot days. Weather cooling down.
A few Walgreens to stop in for cool drinks or bars if you prefer!

  • Stomp on the wedding cake. That would be hiking in the dessert.

    Seriously, use spellcheck. It_s DESERT!

Anyway, take Charleston west all the way to Red Rock Canyon. Good hiking there.

  • I wouldn_t go hiking in the dessert, very sticky. Although I guess an apple pie would be ok if the pastry was thick enough.

  • Red Rock Canyon is nice with lots of hiking.

  • My wife and I want to move to San Diego. How much money would you consider a comfortable amount to go with?|155569

We figure it will take month to get jobs and get settled. Is this accurate?

  • well, you didnt say wether you are looking to rent a house or an apartment. Either way, a 1 bedroom apartment goes from about 800-1000 for an _o.k._ neighborhood. Higher end places will obvioulsy be more. A 1 or 2 bed room house will go for around $1200-$1300.
In each instance also figure around $1000 for a deposit. Some utilities require a deposit as well. I would try to have 2 months rent, plus deposit and gas and food money. Also utilities.
If possible look into jobs before you move out. Maybe you can transfer from your current job. Even if one of you does that it will be helpful.
    OR
Get lots of job interviews ahead of time. Set them up for the first few day you will be in town.
If you are looking for a house, maybe consider moving into an apartment first, then finding a house after you get jobs. Look for an apartment that no lease, instead find one thats month-to-month.
if you have lots of stuff, you may want to put it in storage so you dont get comfy. i know a place where the first month is free, and if you move all your stuff out within the first month you only pay like $20
    good luck.

  • A LOT! The cost of living is Extremely high. If you are going to rent, you must have first, last, plus deposit. Be prepared to pay (depending where you chose to live) $1400.00-2500.00 a month for rent. My daughter pays 1400.00 for a studio apt. The tags for your car, are Extremely high too, along with getting your car thru _smog check_ and your car will NEVER run the same again.......I suggest you REALLY give this move some thought....Good Luck to you.

  • a lot.

living expenses are ridiculously high here, i_ve seen small, two bedroom apartments up for over $1000 a month.

i think it depends what area you_ll be moving to, though. near the beaches and downtown, the costs will be higher.

  • It is possible to find apartments in good neighborhoods for about $800/mo. I say bring $3,000 if you can.

Are there any good sites for buying Disney Pins for cheap besides ebay?|159974

Or any stores? I am going to Disney World In December and I want to start trading but I have noticed they are pretty pricey on the disney site. Any suggestions?

  • Disney Pin Trading is an addiction... SEEK HELP. lol... um there are a few places, but just search in google Disneyana and you will get a lot of collectible sites.
  • How long will the lines be at Magic Mountain this weekend?|158133

My sister went on a friday this summer and didnt experience any long lines, do you think this weekend will have lots of long lines or not to long of lines?

  • Everything changed on a weekend, hon.

Your saving grace might be, howeve, that it_s going to also be really hot up there and anyone (like me) who doesn_t take the heat too well might stay home.

However, don_t count on it. It_s gonnabe crowded.

  • Gonna Be pretty crowded.
    I mean Magic Mountain+Summer+Weekend=Longg lines
  • My anniversary is in November. Any good traveling ideas to make it special?|143635

I live in in California, and would like to stay in this state. I am looking for something that will last a long weekend, and be romantic. Being that it will be in winter, I just don_t know where the best place to celebrate is.

  • Napa wine tour, Santa Barbara, San Diego, Monterey/Carmel, Santa Cruz - all swell and potentially romantic spots.

  • I hope you would consider Asia

  • What about a short cruise CARNIVAL fun ship cruises
call 1-866-455-8196 ext.86452 toll free of course - good luck
  • What is best way to get to Chicago Ohara from Millenium Park?|168645

I am taking train from University Park to Millenium Park, and need to get to O_Hara Airport, wondering the best way to go. Friday 10:30 am

  • Ugh.
Sometimes it seems like the people who answer this type of question exit the subway at the same place no matter where they_re going and have no clue about the layout of the streets in Chicago. I_m not saying they_re wrong, they_re just making you walk way more than you need to...

The Millennium Park Station is at Randolph _ Michigan. When you walk up the stairs you_ll be facing west, just keep walking. You_ll cross Wabash (loop up, that_s the elevated train), then State Street then you_ll run into Dearborn. Make a left on Dearborn and you_ll see about four Blue Line stops less than a half block down at Washington Street. Make sure you have $2 in cash as the CTA does not offer change.

If you need an elevator, there_s one at Clark _ Lake which is four blocks away from Millennium Park (only two more than Washington _ Dearborn). The Jackson _ Dearborn subway stop is eight city blocks away from Millennium Park, double the walking distance from Millennium Park and in the complete wrong direction.

  • It_s NOT _OHara_, not named after _Scarlett_, OK? It_s O_Hare O-H-A-R-E, named after a guy named Butch O_Hare who was a famous naval aviator from Chicago. BTW Midway airport is NOT _Midway_ between anything either, it is named after the Battle of Midway.

The cheapest way is the CTA Blueline train. There is also Continental Airport Express, which is a van service.

  • It takes about 45 minutes to get to Ohare on the blue line. There are numerous Blue Line entrances on Dearborn between VanBuren and Washington. They are really hard to miss. However, if you have a lot of luggage look for the elevator entrance near Jackson.

  • You should cross the street at Monroe on Michigan, and walk west to Dearborn. There will be a Subway Entrance named _Monroe_ It is the Blue Line and it will take you straight to the O_Hara Bus Terminal. GL =)

  • Take the CTA blue line...it goes right to the airport!! You can get on at Dearborn and Jackson or Dearborn and Monroe.

  • What is fun that my friends and I can do during the summer in Saint Louis?|132725

We just want something to do that would be fun, like today we went to Grant_s Farm then tomorrow we are going to the Zoo. What else is fun to do in Saint Louis?

  • There are tons of things to do in the STL area! Okay so you have done Grant_s Farm and the Zoo also try the History Museum (yep it can be cool), science center (the new super hero thing is great for all ages), and of course the City Museum (not a museum at all you can run and be a kid no matter what age you are, they have caves, HUGE slides and more check out their website!). Of course there is Six Flags and Raging Rivers which are in the area and can be a lot of fun. Can get expensive sometimes. Here are some other things to do in the area:
America_s Incredible Pizza Company, new I have never been there but, it is indoors they have go karts, mini golf and more. They have a website just google them.
Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, if you have never been here it is way cool! Also free which is a good thing! They have a lot of specail events so you will want to check out their website. They have 1 or 2 Pow Wows a year which are really neat!
Circus Flora, went to this last year very cool not your average circus and pretty cheap here is what I found for 2007, again check their site:
St. Louis_ own intimate one-ring theatre circus, where no audience member is more than 40 ft. from the center of the ring. Performs every summer in the Grand Center arts and entertainment district. 2007 schedule, June 7 - 24.
Gateway Arch-Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, who could leave out the Arch! Even if you live here it is still cool to go see! I try to go once a year and I bet the views of the new stadium are really cool!
Go See the Cards Play, need not say more here!
We also have 2 minor league teams that are REALLY CHEAP to go too the most expensive ticket is like $8 and the cheapest like $4 also cheap drinks and eats. Check out the River City Rascals or the Gateway Grizzlies. There are a few day and early games. They have a ton of night games too!
Historic Aircraft Restoration Museum, this plave is cool! I did not even know we had a place like this hear. You can see all kinds of planes, learn more about flying and see planes that are being restored. Who knew we had this???
Kemp Auto Museum, if you like cars this place is for you, I had a good time walking around, not as much fun as the guys but, they do have some really cool cars here!
Lewis _ Clark State Historic Site, ok this is in IL but about 15-20 mins from STL very cool new just opened a few years ago and is free! They have a lot of hands on stuff here and I hate to say it but I did learn a lot. Very neat place.
Lone Elk Park, I just love going here, first of all they have wild elk and buffalo that roam the park. YOu will just be driving a long and bam there they are. They also have great programs throughout the summer and the Bird Sancutary people are usually there with some birds of pray. They give demos and all kinds of things. You can also hike, and do other things again free doesn_t get much better than that!
Meramec Caverns, okay this is a day trip but, wow it really is a lot of fun! Missouri has some really great caves, all of them that I have been to have been great! Meramec is fun and this year they are doing a flashlight tour which I bet is really cool! Well worth your money there are other things to do in the area around Meremac....good floating in the area! If you have not been to the cave you will be amazed!
Hey speaking of that take a day trip up to Hanibel there is a ton of stuff to do there, there is the lake, caves, Mark Twain stuff and more. Good place to get away and cheap!
Missouri Botanical Garden, if you have never been here it is really cool and there is something for everyone. They did a lot of updates to the place over the winter. They also have a lot of events that go on here so you will want to check out their webstie for more details.
Union Station is always fun, there are shops and resturants there. Plus the place has been wonderfully restored. If you go to customer service they will give you a self guided tour book that shows off different things in the station. Hard Rock Cafe is also located here which always has good food!
Wabash Frisco _ Pacific Steam Railway, if you have never done this it is a lot of fun for all ages. You get to take a 2 mile mini train trip around the river. The train is smaller than the zoo train, but a lot of fun! Really neat views of the river and the people that run it are very nice and give a great tour. Cost a whole $3 well worth it!
Well I hope this helps you, we have so much to do in the city and the surronding areas I could go on and on here is a great website that I use even though I live here to get more info. It has everything from resturants to attractions!

Hope this helps have a great summer!
  • What is there to do on New Years eve 2010 in the bay area that is not club involved and is cheap?|194627

I live in Milpitas and my girlfriend and I want to do something fun. We do not want to go to a club, and we do not want to spend that much. Maybe something that is less than $30 per person. We would also prefer something in the San Jose area. I wanted to watch fireworks but do not know of any places near us other than San Francisco, and we do not want to go that far.

  • Treasure Island or Emeryville pier
  • What is the closest beach to the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego?|192537

I want to know which one is the closest beach and if there is one that has easy to get to transportation from the Gaslamp Quarter. I will have a vehicle but would rather walk to a bus/trolley/ferry and pay for those fees rather than pay for parking. Any information would help.

  • You have two choices for nearby beaches. First there is Shelter Island, which you can drive to (parking is free). There_s a sidewalk that runs along the length and park benches for a picnic lunch and a small beach area.

Second, is Coronado. You can take the ferry across to the island, but the beach is a bit of a hike from the ferry landing. If you drive across the Coronado bridge, you can park down the street from the beach and walk to it. It_s easier and it also means you_ll have the car with you afterward so you can explore the island a bit if you like. There are a couple of nice beaches on Coronado, but my favorites are the one right behind the Hotel Del Coronado (big and clean) and the one right right next to the bridge itself, you can see it when you come across.

  • The closest beach (and it_s a nice one) is Coronado. Parking can be a bit of a problem. If you want to enjoy lunch or brunch at at Hotel Del Coronado you can park in their lot for free if you get the parking validated.

It_s a couple of miles from the ferry landing to the beach or I_d suggest the ferry, which is a nice ride from downtown San Diego and only costs $3.25 each way. It_s a 15 minute ferry ride but then a long walk to the beach.

Ocean Beach isn_t too far and it has a free parking lot. You_ll find info, pictures, and directions to all of the San Diego beaches at this site:

    http://www.sandiego-romantics.com/romant

  • Coronado is the closest beach to downtown. You can take the water taxi across the harbor and then a cab or bus to the beach. A car would be quicker.

  • Coronado

Straight after graduation rom medical school, what are your prospects for emmigration to the USA from the UK?|140373

What about after you have received full registration? Is it better to go before full registration or after? I have always had a burning ambition to go somewhere like Alaska, i think the drama of the scenery is awe inspiring and would love to go somewhere like that, either there or around the Rockies, either in America or Canada. How hard is will it be to emmigrate to Canada?

  • See website below. it is loooong , complicated process. it would be very helpful if you could find a British physician who has emmigrated to the u.S. and learn his/her experience. If you want to enter the U.S. immediately after graduating from med school, would you be looking for a residency program in the U.S.? I know nothing about this, but I know there ARE many foreign doctors in U.S. residency programs. Could your school help you learn how to apply for these programs? See web2nd site below to see if there are any articles there that could help you.

  • Hospitals in Alaska are always understaffed and looking for physicians and nurses. Maybe on of their HR departments are willing to help you.

  • Have your credentials in your pocket when you arrive.

  • Your best prospect is to apply for a postdocteral research fellowship. These pay very little, but they get you a visa for a few years. These fellowships are not managed nationally ... every institution has its own.

Perminant residency is very difficult, even with a medical degree.

You cannot practice medicine in the US with your medical degree. You would first need to pass a series of exams, then apply for a residency here.
