Moving to Chicago from San Diego. Where r the best areas to live that are happening and exciting?|110282

I just got a degree in business with an emphasis in management. i would like to live in the city where everything is happening. I would like to be in an area where there is bars, restaurants, clubs, venues etc. At the same time I want to be close to the financial districts to land a job.

  • There are bars, clubs and restaurants everywhere. Chicago is a very _neighborhood-y_ city...there are lot of large neighborhoods with smaller more defined ones inside of that.

If you want an active night life scene near the financial district, try RIver North, West Loop or Gold Coast. The first two are walking distance to the Loop; the Gold Coast is maybe a 15 minute train ride down.

These neighborhoods are not cheap. If you are looking to rent...expect to pay about $1000 for a studio, $1500 1bd and so on. If you are looking to buy, depending on finishes, you would be pressed to find something you really want for less than $300k (small 1bd). Of course, there are bargains to be found, just depends on what you are willing to sacrifice.

I used to rent a 700 sq. ft. 1bd East of Michigan Ave. in Streeterville (sub-neighborhood of Gold Coast) for $1195, there we_re no amenities, window a/c_s, crap kitchen and not the best apartment...but the location was nice for the time I was working up there.

Hope this helps! I_ll check back soon!

  • PB (Pacific Beach) is where alot of young people/college age people live and party. It_s gorgeous but of course expensive. A one bedroom will be around $1,000/mo if you can even find one or find a job. But good luck anyways.

Edit- my bad I read wrong, thought you were moving TO san diego! sorry!

  • Loop, Lakeview, Lincoln Park, River North, Streeterville, and Near North are neighborhoods are to look into.

  • That covers a lot of ground but Mission Valley or anywhere near the beach leaps to mind.

  • LOL good luck with the finance sector
  • What are the counties that in Miami and Fort Lauderdale and outside that are good neighborhoods?|143807

to live in. I_m thinking about relocating I want to stay away from the bad areas. I also want to know what areas tend to pay higher wages.

  • Salary depends on your profession - I think Miami and Broward and even Palm Beach are all pretty competitive as far as the job search goes, but you will find more _good_ areas in Broward county, which is just north of Miami. Check out cities like Plantation, Weston, and Coral Springs - they are very nice. The closer you get to the beach, the more run-down areas you will find, but if you live out west, you can find some great areas/neighborhoods that are family friendly and nice to live in.

  • Miami is in Dade County known officially as Miami-Dade County. Fort Lauderdale is in Broward County. You are probably needing to know cities within the county of either of those that are safe.

Depending on what you do for a living your best bet is to begin to search for a job. Miami and Fort Lauderdale are both in themselves huge job markets. I would personally recommend you look into relocating to Broward County. Also it helps if you brush up on your spanish. A great deal of the positions require that you be bi-lingual or even tri-lingual. Spanish, Creole, and English. So be prepared for a lot of that.
    Hope it works out-
  • Is it necessary to book a show in Las Vegas before i get there?|155928

I_m traveling to Las Vegas in July of this year and am wondering if it is necessary to book before i go there? Do they sell out?

We were thinking of seeing a comedian, any recommendations on comedians?

  • Sounds like it would be better for you to wait until you get here. There are so many shows to choose from and many have discount coupons all over the place. Especially the comedy clubs like at Harrahs.

Some comedians with regular shows are

    Louie Anderson at the Excalibur
    Carrot Top at the Excalibur
    George Wallace at the Flamingo
Penn and Teller at the Rio

Also V-the Ultimate Variety Show is at Planet Hollywood not the Tropicana.

Check the shows out on this site.

  • Well, I waited to buy tickets to see Mystere one time and when I got to TI, they were all sold out. If it is something you are dead set on seeing I would purchase in advance just to be on the safe side.

A friend of mine recommended to me the V Ultimate Variety Show @ the Tropicana. I think Ray Romano _ Brad Garrett will be there a weekend in July....

  • With millions of people traveling to Las Vegas every year, tickets to some of the more popular shows sell out on a nightly basis. If you wait for your arrival in Las Vegas to secure show tickets, you might not be able to get the tickets you want to the shows that you_ve been dying to see.

  • Unless you really have your heart set on seeing a particular show, I_d wait. With the economy the way it is, the shows really aren_t selling out. Plus, there are discount tickets booths up and down the strip where you can buy discounted tickets. I almost bought tickets to Penn and Teller before we left. I_m glad we waited since we saved about $50 and the theatre was only 2/3 full.

  • Depends on the popularity of the show and how crowded the city will be at that time. Some shows sell out fast daily, others are dark on certain days of the week/closed for the day!

www.insidervlv.com is a good website to book shows.

  • no they have these little booths all along the strip that you could get tickets cheaper at or ask at your hotel.
  • What is a cheap beach hotel/condo/resort on a nice beach in Alabama?|154026

I am looking for a hotel or condo or resort on a nice beach in Alabama. I have never been to Alabama but heard there are some wonderful beaches around gulf shores and orange beach. I am looking to pay $80 a night or less and would like to be able to walk to the beach easily. I just need 1 bed for 2 people. We are planning on going Aug 26th-29th.

Anyone ever stay in one such as the one I am describing?

  • I live close to that area, and visit often. It is indeed very beautiful. There isn_t as much to do (as far as activities, restaurants, etc.) as other beach areas (Destin, PCB, etc.) but it_s still nice and you_ll find plenty to do.

There_s only 1 place I could find that is available for the dates you mentioned within the budget you specified:

    Country Hearth Inn (Gulf Shores)

    http://www.resideo.com/us/alabama/gulfsh

    $75/nt (25% early booking bonus)
Not located directly on the beach, but close. Read the reviews - very negative....

There_s a La Quinta in Gulf Shores that_s a bit more per night - $103/nt:

    http://www.resideo.com/us/alabama/gulfsh

Not on the beach, mixed reviews

And Beachside Resort Hotel is $119/nt (25% off special):

    http://www.resideo.com/us/alabama/gulfsh

On the beach, but mixed reviews

If there_s any chance you can increase your budget, you_ll have better choices... You can do an area-wide (25-mile radius) quote here:

    http://www.resideo.com/us/alabama/gulfsh

    Hope that helps!

  • there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it_s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

  • You could try out a hotel search on http://www.ooaha.com It searches most hotel sites and gets you comparative prices besides actual customer reviews of hotels.

For Albama I would suggest Bay Minette http://ooaha.com/City/Bay_Minette.htm
  • What should I see when I visit North Carolina?|143116

I will be visiting North Carolina this summer, and I will be in the Charlotte area. What sorts of things must I see while I_m there?

  • Great museums, but to really plan out your trip well, call the chamber of commerce and have them mail you a package. It_s a great city. Have fun.
  • What fun under 21 New Years celebrations are happening in Atlanta?|156597

What is a cheap/free, under-21 event in Atlanta, possibly involving dancing? The peach drop strikes me as being crowded and kind of sketchy, so I wanted to do something more low-key. Ideas?

  • watch the big peach drop! and drink gingerale in wine glasses..plenty of fireworks too.
