Can you recommend or direct me to Youth Hostels in Illinois?|142459

We are planning to go this summer. We_d like it to be cheap and close to Lake Michigan, Chicago and other sites of interest. Also can you recommend any places to visit? What cross-state travel options are there?

  • There_s a great one in the Loop. It_s part of the Youth Hosteling International group. I_ll look for the name.

    Here_s their link:

This is a great location for exploring Chicago. It_s walking distance to the Art Institute, Millenium Park, the Shedd Aquarium and other science museums along the lake.

  • no i cant find youre own
  • Places to visit and things to do in Michigan during the long weekend?|131842

been here for 9 years and covered pretty much everything, any sugggestions beyond the following the list of stuff that we have already done:
henry ford museum, holland, tahquamenon falls, sue sault marie, mackinac island, putin bay para sailing, ann arbor summer festival, detroit river front.

outdoor activity suggestions are also good.

  • I love spending the 4th in Saugatuck. Quaint shops in a village which is non-commercial with many art galleries as well. Douglas is just 5 min away and it has even more galleries plus, if you like to go antiquing, they have one heck of a large antique store. Saugatuck holds an art fair on the 4th; don_t know about Sunday though.

Grand Rapids (45 min from Saugatuck) has the Gerald Ford museum plus the Fred Meijer Gardens which is so much more than gardens with many, many sculptures. It has a great inexpensive restaurant with many glass sculptures on the ceiling by Chilhuly. There is also an enormous Chilhuly sculpture in the large hall. I was amazed to read that the Gardens are on the list of the top 10 sites which people must see before they die. Grand Rapids also has a very nice zoo and our downtown, which is beautiful, is very lively at night. We also have the VanAndel Arena - you can find out who is performing and get tickets in advance.

PS: If you haven_t been to Traverse City please go. I_m going with a friend in October for a festival plus we_ll be enjoying the 3 hr drive there to see the fall foliage. The drive alone is worth it; it_s easy to feel as though you_re driving in a never-ending forest - it_s incredibly beautiful.

  • go somewhere out of state:D
    see something new.
  • Where should I go for a vacation in California?|167394

I_m wanting to take a vacation in the fall and I_m thinking California. I love the beach so where would be the best place to go?

  • I think San Diego is by far the best vacation spot if the beach is what you_re after. San Diego has the best beaches, and the weather there is wonderful. La Jolla is just a hop, skip and a jump away and it_s an awesome area. You can see the beached sea lions, which is just amazing, and there_s some great shopping _ restaurants as well.

  • I_d choose San Diego. There is 70 miles of beaches in San Diego with lots of other things to do as well. If you are over 21, there are wineries where you can go sample the wine. There_s also the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, and Sea World.

Some of my favorite things in San Diego to do are beach bonfires, kayaking through the caves in LaJolla, riding bikes along the coast, taking a bay cruise, watching a gorgeous sunset, and hiking.

  • I have a suggestion here : bensaidben@yahoo.com

  • Napa Valley! Great wine vineyards! Also, San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose area is excellent. There are so many things to do in San Francisco.

  • If you like to observe the beach and love wine, then go to Northern Calli. If you wanna bake and party then go to Huntington Beach, near LA. Venice beach is also great.

  • Monterey and Big Sur
  • How much will it cost to go around central park in a horse drawn carridge ?|149987

also how much is it to do ice skating there, going on a short break on 2nd december. Any one got any reccomendations on what to do and where is good to go?

  • It_s about 60 dollars for a 45 minute ride through the park. Ice skating in the park is a lot cheaper than Rock center. Plan on getting there early to skate, it gets crowded. A great drinking spot in the winter is McSorley_s on 7th street just east of 3rd ave. They have a great pot belly stove with a warm fire going.

  • 15$ for the carrige ride and 10 for the skating a good place to go is the three story virgin mega store

  • about $60.00 or $65.00 for 45 minutes around the park. you can ice skate in the park or at Rockefeller Center. the Park will be cheaper.
McSorley_s is good or have something to drink at Rockefeller Center while you watch the ice-skaters.
