How do I get to the Fox Theater in Atlanta Georgia from the North Avenue - M Station on the Marta?|117127

I_ve gotten three different sets of directions, and none of them seem to make sense from the map I_m looking at. Thanks!

  • The North Avenue MARTA station is only one block from the Fox Theater.

The North Ave. MARTA Rail station is located on West Peachtree between North Ave (on the south) and Ponce De Leon (on the north) Walk east (away from the interstate) on either North Ave or Ponce one block to Peachtree Street.

The Fox is located at the corner of Ponce De Leon and Peachtree Street.

  • Walk east on North Ave till you get to Peachtree St. Turn left. The Fox is on the left.

The different directions you have gotten are probably because there are multiple exits from the station.
  • What are some good places in Houston to hang out?|114625

I just moved from Jamaica and i wanted to know where are some good places to hang out and chill in Houston. Im 15 and also looking for some cool friends.

  • Try The Happy Fun Place, 3801 Polk St. for live, young bands _ chillin. Track 21 for race carts and arcade games.
  • How much is a taxi ride from Fort Lauderdal Airport to Dophins Stadium?|125535

I_m going to a game in December and don_t know if I should rent a car or not. I would normally just rent a car but the prices are thru the roof during that time.

  • Taxi rates have gone up. The Broward web site has the taxi rates at $2.50 plus $2.40 per mile. Mapquest shows this trip at just under 15 miles. That would make it more like $38.50 plus tip...

FWIW, the South Florida trip planner has a two-bus itinerary that will take you there for a mere $1.75 (but takes two hours!)

  • 20, 25 bucks. they_re about the same location north-south, you just have to travel west, and it_s freeway driving the whole time. I-595 as i recall.
  • How come there are no buffet restuarant in Napa and in Sonoma? Like sizzlers or hometown buffet?|124844

Is it because it_s a tourist spot? Wine county, and it would be like an eye sore to have a chain buffet restaurants?

  • As noted in some of the other answers, there are buffet-style restaurants in the City of Napa, but you won_t find such places in the Napa Valley (north of the city of Napa). The Valley emphasizes fine dining and fine wines. Buffet and chain restaurants are out of character with the whole experience that the Valley promotes. I totally agree with their philosophy. You can find chains almost everywhere in America, they don_t need to be in places like the Napa Valley, which attracts visitors from all over the world because of its beauty and uniqueness. Big-box stores, chain restaurants, malls - all of these things would ruin the feel of the Valley and are not allowed. This is not _snobbery,_ it is an attempt to retain some feeling of uniqueness and authenticity to what is essentially an agricultural area (grape growing and wine making are the two major industries).

  • There_s a Sizzler_s in Napa (ate there on New Years Eve). There_s a Marie Calendar. There (used to be?) a Lion_s.

  • why would you ask us. shouldn_t you ask the buffet company

  • snobs thats why

  • there really aren_t many chain restaurants in napa or sonoma. sonoma I believe has an anti chain restaurant thing of some kind. there are very few fast food places in sonoma that are chains.

And in napa they just don_t really do that well. lyons closed years ago, marie callendars is never very full when i go there and ditto with Denny_s. Applebees is the only one that does decent. And to be perfectly honest with you I don_t really care for those chain buffets. I think they are very popular in the midwest, but the truth is they just don_t do well here in california.

though I would love to see baja fresh or or panera in napa.

  • True there is no Hometown Buffet because that_s entirely too new of a chain. Napa is too established for that. There is a sizzler on Trancas Street though. Across from Longs, Kaiser Permante and Safeway.

  • The city of Napa does have a sizzler. It is on Trances street. Napa has many many chain restaurants too. The rest of the valley has not allowed fast food places for many, many years. The a_w/KFC in St. Helena was put there before this ordenence. Traffic is the main reason for not having any fast foods and yes they are also snobs and want to offer only high quality places to eat.
  • How long do you think it will take for the housing market and job market will recover in Las Vegas?|106908

Just curious to see if it will likely improve sometime 5 years from now. What_s your take on this? Do you think Las Vegas economy will kick back sooner or later?

  • Gaming revenue is back to what it was exactly 5 years ago, so one guess is that it may take 5 years to recover. However, I don_t think it will recover. People are going to be hesitant to build a casino in the next five years.
    ================
This depression and the preceding explosion in money has alerted the rest of the nation to the value of gambling. States in the Northeast have turned to gambling in a big way to take care of their gambling problems. Las Vegas will continue to appeal to the big time baccarat players who are looking for glamor and high life, but the millions of penny slot and blackjack players will just go to their hometown casinos.
    ================
I know that Las Vegas Sands which owns the Venetian and Palazzo has 3000 slot machines in Vegas. They also have 3000 slot machines in their slot parlor in Bethlehem PA, in an old steel mill within driving distance of NYC. Venetian/Palazzo also has 250 table games in Vegas, but PA just gave permission for them to put 250 table games in PA. The slots in PA take in more revenue than the ones in Vegas. It may take some time, but if they cultivate players from NYC, they may do something similar.
    ==============
Multiply that story times dozens of casinos around the country. Why would companies risk it all in a remote place in the desert that depends on air traffic.
    ==============
The five diamond resorts will be here ten years from now, but the _meat and potatoes casinos_ will be gone.
    =================
You can see it happening in a smaller market like Reno which is much less dependent on air traffic. Gaming revenue has been dropping since the summer of 2006, well before the general depression hit. Competition with Indian casinos in Sacramento is wiping out a market that hasn_t built a new casino since 1996. Thirty years from now, gaming revenue will be the same or less than it is today.
    ------------------------
In a similar way there will be high end casinos that appeal to the elite in Vegas, but i doubt that revenue will ever exceed the peak in 2007 (excluding inflation). Blackjack and slots, and other traditional games plunged in Vegas, but Baccarat rode out the recession without as serious damage.

  • I hope the sooner the better but what takes three years to hurt will take at least twice as long to repair.
  • Why have I had headaches since moving to Houston from Chicago?|122753

I moved here just over three months ago and have gone through almost an entire bottle of tylenol, about 180 pills. One of my co-workers (also from Chicago, new to Houston) has had the same problem. Is this normal? Does anyone know what the cause might be? Thanks!

  • Because you left the greatest city in the whole world. I suggest you move back immediately!!

  • Houston and Chicago are completly different climates, your body has to adjust therefor the headaches.
Houston has more humidity, higher temps and different allegerns and pollutants than chicago. The best thing is consult an allergist or your doctor, that way you can get some medication that will help your body to adjust to the different enviroment. Also it is best not to take over 1200 miligrams of aspirin a day because it can lead to liver damage. Drink lots of water as hydration will also help you liver and your body to change.

  • Might be the warmer temperatures you are not accustomed to, or allergies to things in the environment that are new to your body system because it is a new area you are living in.
It would be better to consult a doctor because it has been 3 months and you still have the headaches. Taking so much medication without the doctor_s advice may not be good.

  • Its probably the altitude change it happens a lot when you move from one terrain to another that is differnet. hope i helped with your problem! =D

  • well houston is a stressful city all right...maybe its the frequent weather fluctuations or humidity, its enough to make anyone sick.

What are somethings to do on a long car ride?|103646

I_ve got a pretty long roadtrip tomorrow and need somethings to do besides car games. I would really like things i can do by myself. I have a laptop, but that only lasts like 2 hours lol any ideas?

  • We play alphabet games, you know, find words on signs in order of the alphabet, or _I went on vacation and in my suitcase I packed and anaconda, a buffalo, calendars, etc. Or you can go around the car naming famous people. If I said James Dean, you would have to come up with someone who_s first name starts with a _D_. If the first and last name start with the same letter then everyone has to come up with someone who_s first and last names start with the same letter. Or you could go through the alphabet naming places you_d like to go, etc..... There are a lot of different alphabet games.

We also have found that audio books pass the time. My boys are not readers AT ALL, so when I picked up an audio book for a long trip they both rolled their eyes and told me I was a dork. An hour into the first one they were both hooked. Cracker Barrel has audio books you can rent for like $20-30. You can pick one up in one state, return it to another Cracker Barrell in another state and get your money back.

We also have a portable DVD player, and a car charger for the laptop. If you can read in the car, bring books and magazines.

  • -For long car rides an ipod or something is a must.
I find that when I_m listening to music time goes a bit faster.

-If you draw, then bring your sketchbook.

-Or you could bring a book and read, but ugh, that always gives me a headache. But some people can.

    -SLEEP :)

-Talk or Text on your cell phone

-or if your REALLY bored, you can get some travel games that they usually sell at some convenience stores, haha

Uhhh thats all I can really think of!
Have fun on your trip! :)

  • Just soak in your surrounding.. That_s what I do when I have to ride in a car with people for too long

When I was a kid, my family would play _Guess the color of the next car_ You just guess the color of the next car you meet.

If you want it to get really hard, guess the color AND the manufacturer

  • You can get an adapter that plugs into the lighter that has
an electrical outlet. You can purchase one at a good truck stop
or a place like best buy. This will save cost on batteries.

Why not get a book of word searches and crosswords or something like that. They are cheap and will keep you entertained for hours. Also what about Madlibs? Yep they still sell those get the family involved and have some fun! You can also play those silly games like I Spy, you know I Spy something yellow. Will keep you entertained for a little while. There is also the licenses plate game. Keep a running tally and see who gets the most states. They do also make smaller versions of board games such as Sorry, Connect 4 ect They are pretty cheap and you can get them at the toy store or some place like Wal-Mart. What about playing Bingo? There are several sites where you can print car bingo cards.spot a cow mark of a square ect. Again get the family involved it can be fun, it is what you make of it! Bring trivia, get a book or just bring the Trivia Pursuit cards have fun and question each other. Do a scavenger hunt, make up a list before you go of things to see, who ever sees the most wins. We go on long road trips each year and yep even at my age we pull out the kid games. Keeps you entertained and we always make it fun! Here are some sites to help you; they have things like the car bingo that you can print. Dont forget the cow counting game, yep again whoever gets the most wins. Sounds dumb but you can make it fun!

Here are a few other games:
    The Geography Game
To play this game, someone has to name any place in the world - New York, for example. Then the next person has to name a place that begins with the last letter of the first place - so for New York the next person could say _Kuala Lumpur._ Whoever goes next needs a place that starts with an _R_ cuz that_s the last letter of Kuala Lampur. You can_t use the same place twice in a game. If you get stumped, you_re out. The last person left in the game is the winner. You can mix things up by using celebrities names, movies or any other subject you can think of!

    The Grocery Game
This memory game is bound to whet your appetite for your next pit stop. One person starts by naming something they could buy in a grocery store that begins with the letter _A_ - apples, for example. The next person says, _apples,_ and then says something they could buy at a grocery store that begins with B, such as bananas. The next person says, _apples, bananas, can of beans,_ and so on. If you mess up, you_re out. The last person standing (well, actually, sitting) is the winner!

TWENTY QUESTIONS: One player thinks of a famous person, place or thing. Everyone else gets to ask the player 20 questions, which must be answered _yes_ or _no._ For example, _Does it know how to read?_ is a valid question, but _What_s its favorite book?_ is not. Whoever guesses correctly gets a turn to think up something.

A IS FOR ARMADILLO: Starting with A, each person tries to be the first to spot and name three items beginning with that letter. For example, the first to see and announce _armadillo, auto and apple_ gets to choose the next letter.

LICENSE PLATE LINGO: The goal of this game is to come up with a phrase using the letters on another car_s plate. So if you see the plate LMT 823, the first person to call out a somewhat logical phrase such as _Love me tender_ or _Lost my tooth_ earns a point.

ODDS, EVENS: Two players pick either _odds_ or _evens._ Then they make a fist, shake it, say, _One, two, three...shoot,_ and stick out one or two fingers. If the total is an odd number, the player who picked odds wins. Same goes for evens.

    Name that tune
    Rules of the game
Here_s a game that_s great for those who like to sing or hum a tune. One player thinks of a song that everybody knows and hums its first few notes. (Hint: Your child might not recognize top-40 pop songs yet, but chances are he can recognize _Row, Row, Row Your Boat_ or _Baby Beluga._) The other players try to guess the name of the song. If they can_t guess, the first player keeps humming more notes in the song until someone comes up with the right answer. There are no winners or losers in this game; it ends when everyone gets tired of it.

    Rainbow Game
Call out a color and each person has to find something that color. For example, when you call out green, one person might point out grass, another a green car. It gets harder when you get to purple and pink.

    Tall Tales
The rules are fairly simple: One person starts telling a story. She talks for about a minute and stops when she reaches an exciting moment. Then another person picks up where she left off. The game continues in this manner, with the tale twisting and turning with each new speaker. If a large group is playing, the last person to have a turn finishes the story. With a small number of children, the game is over when one player decides to give the story an ending.

Of course you can also take a book, bring your IPod, any hand held video game, laptops, portable DVD Players ect. can always help you pass the time! Dont for get you can always sleep!

Good luck I hope this helps you and have a wonderful trip!!!!
  • How Do I Survive New York City?|103248

I am planning on living in the big city, and I am curious on how to become an official New Yorker. How do I become aggressive and a very good negotiator when it comes to Cabs and whatever else. Also I would like to know how to live the life where I can have a big Condo and a huge friend base with an active lifestyle. ex:(Parties;Restaurants;Premieres;Hotels Please help.

  • First of all, you can_t go into NYC with that arrogance and expect to make it. You can_t negotiate cab fares (they all have meters inside them and you pay based on how far you go). Your expectations are not realistic if I_m being honest. You can_t just show up somewhere and get a big condo and a massive list of friends and access to premiers and parties and things like that. You have to work your way up the ladder. The city is a great place, but you must realize that it is bigger than you and that if you_re not careful you could get swallowed whole (figuratively, not literally).

The best way to approach city life is to not change who you are, because it will be painfully obvious if you do.

  • Um where are you from? The first thing you need to do is be very careful because the way you sound and the questions your asking...I can see that you are going to be a very easy target!
  • Whats the city with the giant horse shoe-like thing thats distinguishable and appealing?|188163

It looks like a horse shoe but its humongous, sticking out of the ground and its thin. Whats that called and whats the city?

  • Are you referring to the arch in St. Louis? there is a museum under the arch. See site below.

  • St Louis, Mo.
  • What is the weather usually like in Las Vegas at the end of November beginning of December?|127221

I_m going to Las Vegas at the end of November and i_m not sure what type of clothing i should concider taking as i_m not sure what the weather will be like. Or what type of temperature i should expect.

    Thanks.

  • I live in Vegas and those are my favorite months. Not too cool, where a long sleeve at night, and not too warm, however warm enough that you can still wear sandals.

  • believe me it_s very comfortable. i did that in 2007, probably one of the smartest things you can do because it_s not as crowded as in the summer, and it_s definitely not as hot! eh, expect in the 70s maybe mid 80s but if your in hotels and casinos enjoying yourself it won_t really matter XD have fun!

  • It is cool and relatively warm with temperatures fluctuating between 13 and 17 daytime and cold at night with temperatures between 3 and 8.These temperatures can easily change due to sudden low pressures that could drop day temperatures to 7 or raise them to 22 or drop night temperatures to -2 and raise them to 13.Rain is relatively uncommon but keep an umbrella with you in case something happens....

  • I visited Vegas last year right after Thanksgiving. I packed pants (jeans and slacks), short sleeved shirts with sweaters that I could layer over them, and the most important thing was my comfy shoes!

During the day I would wear my t-shirts and when the sun went down I would layer them with my sweater. Sometimes it_s cold in the casinos too!

Leave the swim suit at home!

  • It can be warm during the day and chilly at night. A jacket would be in order and not a coat. It was warm enough last year for me to use my hot tub outside on Thanksgiving.

  • Highs in the low 60_s / upper 50_s. On average, the coolest month is December.

  • I had snow,when I went last year.
  • How many days would it take for something to arrive from Nevada?|192737

I purchase stuff from Amazon all the time but always within CA. However this REALLY great deal was from Nevada. And to make matters worse, I bought from New Jersey and Illinois!

How many days would it probably take if items were shipped from Nevada, New Jersey, and Illinois to CA?

  • If it_s not there in two weeks, you probably have a problem.

  • It generally takes about 7 days for mail to go cross country, with the holidays wrapping up mail is still a bit slow. I would give it about 10 days.
  • What is the best night club in Waikiki for 21 year old females?|190647

We_re going to Hawaii on Vacation on Oct. 25th, and we would like to go out and enjoy the night life of Waikiki on Saturday, the 27th. Any suggestions???
We_re 21, and we_re looking to have fun!! Dance, drink, and listen to great music! :)

    THANKS!

  • I recommend Pipeline Cafe!

  • Pipeline is good. Only they have a lot of 18 and over nights. Always have entertainment too (local bands.)
I recommend Monkey Bar. 21 and over night club. Lot of local and UH students. Professional dress code. Casual but professional.
Mai Tai_s is a great place also. Open bar with entertainment. Local people.

  • Rumours at the Ala Moana Hotel is fun. I have been there a couple of times. Moose McGillycuddy_s on Lewers St. is a good place, also. There is Tsunamis on Kuhio as well as Scruples. Waikiki is *full* of places to party! You might start off at Duke_s (no dancing, but the Barefoot Bar is fun and they often have live music) and go from there as Duke_s closes early (around 10 pm on weeknights). You don_t have to restrict your nightlife enjoyment to weekends in Honolulu, by the way. It_s a tourist town, so there is something to do *every* night! Enjoy. I bet you_ll love it!

  • Zanzabar On Kuhio Ave.
Pipeline Cafe ~ just be careful not to get in the middle of the fight outside after closing

How to get over your fear of REALLY BIG rollercoasters and rides?|112779

Ok we are going to an amusement park for a field trip in 2 years, but I wanna be prepared for the big rides that have. Please answer! (and plz dont answer just like _do it_ cuz that doesnt help that much, thanks tho)

  • Get in line with your best and most trusted friend (who is not afraid). Get on the ride, hold your friends hand, close your eyes and go for it. It works. Just remember, you have a better chance of biting it while driving to the park.

  • there IS no way to tell you how to conquer your fear without telling you to just do it. Any fear you have about anything can only be conquered by facing it.If its flying go fly If its fear of the coaster then just go on it. You will notice your are strapped in sometimes with a huge bar harness. It looks intimidating cuz its big and has loops and turns. It also goes fast but all in all you will get on it and once you do you ll find that you were afraid for nothing. It might be the most exhilarating thing you_ve ever done. Sometime we fear things and the mind like to play tricks on you because of the fear. You start asking those what if questions and the fear gets bigger until its like a big phobia. the only thing that needs to be feared is fear itself. Yes there are times when things need to be feared especially when there is a clear possibility you could get hurt. Standing next to a cliff with no rope or safety harness, being around wild animals that could injure you or even kill you. That fear comes from using your head and respect for safety.
People get into cars everyday without a second thought. Sometimes they don_t wear their safety belt, they are distracted by the radio or phone and not paying attention, or they fail to use signals. The chances of getting injured are almost 20 times greater than some of the things that people fear doing.

  • all depends on why you are afraid. for me roller coasters just don_t *look* stable enough, in spite of evidence to the contrary. but I found that I quite enjoyed space mountain where I couldn_t see the tracks. it may help to research the safety of the rides because it might put you more at ease. I used to be afraid of even the carosel but now I love the tilt o whirl. I still can_t go on a lot of rides though. don_t force yourself to go on the really big ones. amusement parks have more than just rides and you can always tell your friends that you simply prefer playing the games. that way you don_t seem like a fraidy cat.

  • Okay so it was 6th grade, we had to go to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and all my friends were rollercoaster freaks.. and i didn_t wanna act all scared of roller coasters so I was paired up in a group with them and so I was required to go wherever they go.. I was like really scared!

How did I get over it?!

I went to Great America a few weeks before
and went with friends that I was sorta close to
and went on a HUGE rollercoaster
with a loop and after, I was really dizzy lol.
But I felt so brave because it was really fun!
I attempted to go to Medusa in Six Flags [the big green one]
and i actually went 2 times! It was so much fun.
Keep in mind, I was only in 6th grade, 11 years old lol..
Just think like, why are you afraid?! Your not going to die?!
_ after you get over it, you_ll be a rollercoaster freak, like me!
You just get really dizzy after, but thats the fun part lol!

    Good luck_3

  • i was dead scared of roller coasters since i can remember
and i hadnt even ridden one before, just i was so scared i couldnt even ride one
couple months back i went to an amusement park
i started off at the _scariest_ roller coaster there, according to my friends
anyway i had never ridden one before, but i just sucked it up and gave it ago.
after that first one, i got friggin hooked and went round riding every one of them haha
so my advice is, just shut ur eyes and take a dive, and after the first one, it should be aight.

  • Go to Six Flags or some kind of amusement park near you and start on the little ones and move up to the big ones. Your more likely to get hurt or die on the way to an amusement park than at one. Just remember that and you should be fine. Roller coasters aren_t so bad.

  • Try a smaller ride. Then challenge yourself and go on the bigger one. Tell yourself it_s just a ride, only a big one and it_s cool to try something new.

  • best thing to do is go on the ride... you_ll get a funny feeling in your stomach, and you either like it or you don_t... sorry it is blunt but that is the truth.

  • i ususally just scream at the top of my lungs and say i_m having a blast even though i_m a little scared. it_s also good to have your best friend near to hold a hand!

  • The most scary part of any ride is the take-off..Try to relax....Keep ur eyes closed all the time of ride.........and hold tightly on the handle (....AND NOT THE HAND OF UR BELOVED)...u will miss the actual fun...but it won_t feel that scary!

  • Try starting off on small rides- like rides at the fair and such- then work your way up to the more intense rides.

  • Seriously, just DO IT!!!

I did it, and oh my god, I am so proud of myself!

I went from never going on roller coasters to flying upside down on the raptor!

  • Go with your friends beforehand or some person you have a crush on that likes coasters. They_ll get you to try it once and then It_ll be easy. hehehe

  • try to get on the rides at the fair... and try not to be scared feel invincible

  • just doin it is the only way to get over your fear
  • What are some fun and exciting things to do in Long Beach?|111649

Just moved here from the Bay Area, with my 10 month old, and fiance. I go to the beach every week and It is starting to get old.

  • On the back side of Palos Verdes, are smaller beaches, that are just spectacular, and theres a park up on the backside too witha view to die for! The park is called Friendship Park, the beach is down the road from that, u will make a quick left and down the hill at Shoreline I think. Its within a few miles on the beach side.
Long Beach and fun........with a child so young, beaches, parks, long walks, you can try to find a mommy and me class at a local community center near you maybe?
You can walk near the Queen Mary......um, you know, its all about walking a location with a child that long......not much else that you can do!!
Ok you are new to the area, here are some not that close fun things ok.
Visit Redondo Pier, Hermosa Pier, and Santa Monica Pier, Venice Beach, near the Santa Monica Pier is the fun shopping area of the 3rd Street Prominade, all of these are great locations to walk around. If you have a bike, or you want to rent, you can bike down on the road along the shore for miles! Its called the strand.
The other direction, down PCH, go to Belmont Shores area, theres a great long stretch of great shops and restaurants there. Investigate Seal Beach and the surrounding areas. Venture more south to Huntington Beach, Newport, and wow yourself with Laguna Beach too!
Next year go to Raging Waters water Park, or the one next to Knotts Berry Farm if its still open, they are so much fun for you and baby!!
Down in Newport Harbor, theres a short car on ferry boat ride, park and take the ferris wheel for a spin too, and cheap harbour cruises, a few dollars and relax with baby and see the homes and seals there.
You will enjoy the Griffith Park Observatory, baby wont have much to do, but there is a park, Griffith park for the late day then head to the Observatory at dusk. I know none of these are close, use google maps for directions, but I lived in OC most of my life, and these are all the fun places I loved very much, and now miss now that I dont live in CA anymore.
In Long Beach, go eat at Roscoes Chicken and Waffles for a fun meal!
I never did the Aquarium....heard its nice though.
As baby gets older, explore the librarys all over, the newer the better, many have programs for small ones like story hour, and cozy areas for moms to read to their children. Ive not been to one in LB, but in Huntington the main library is very nice!
    Stay safe and enjoy.

  • In addition to the other suggestions.

Walking along Belmont Shore with the stroller and window shopping is a popular activity.
During Christmas there is a decorated boat parade thru BS and the canals of Naples.Throughout the year there are many contests and parades for dogs. Walking along the Naples canals at Christmas is fun. Quite a few of the homes really go out of the way to put on beautiful displays. I_m not even Christian and I think it_s pretty. You can ride thru the canals on a gondola.
Every summer there are Moonlight Movies on the beach, it_s part of the Sea Festival. There are also several free plays and concerts in the parks.
On October 3rd, the Port of Long Beach opens up its gates and lets the public tour the place. They have free boat and train tours which are actually really, really cool. You can also get good pics of the city from off shore.
The Alamitos Bay Farmers market on Sunday is a good place to get fresh produce.
Justin Rudd runs the Community Action Team for Long Beach and if you get on his mailing list he will keep you up to date on family fun things to do in LBC.
Go to Hilltop Park in Signal Hill to get a panoramic view of LBC and the Southbay. On a VERY clear day you can see the Hollywood sign and Griffith Observatory.
Nearby Seal Beach is the closest place to go for a clean beach. Their Main Street is lined with unique shops, bars and restaurants. It_s the closest thing to a cute beach community you will find. The Kite Festival is on October 4th and is very popular.

  • There are literally hundreds of things to do here in LA. Here is my list of must sees. Visit as many as you have time for.:

Disneyland: The Happiest Place on Earth. Half a billion visitors cant be wrong. #1 Destination.
Universal Studios: A theme park that grew out of a studio tour. #2 Destination.
Even if you dont visit Disneyland or Universal Studios Tour, Downtown Disney District and Universal City Walk are very fun places to visit for shopping and eating. And theyre free to visit.

Hollywood: Enjoy the Walk of Fame, Entertainment Museum, Chinese Theatre and more. You can see a lot for free. The Hollywood _ Highland complex has lots of shops and restaurants, and the Kodak Theater. The El Capitan theater, right across the street, is where Disney shows their movies. And the Hollywood Bowl is a GREAT place to listen to concerts outdoors.

Olvera Street/Union Station: Olvera Street is the birthplace of LA, and it emphasizes our Mexican heritage. In addition to the Avila Adobe (oldest building in LA), you can eat at some pretty good Mexican Restaurants, do a little shopping, and taste a churro. If you dont want to go to Tijuana, this is as close as it gets without going there. Union Station has great architecture from a bygone age. Also, you are 2 blocks from Phillippes (see below).

Rodeo Drive, 90210: Packed with exclusive shops, full of gawkers. They all came to enjoy the excess. Free, unless you intend to buy something.

Venice Beach: Los Angeles kitsch and over-the-top culture at its best. Here you_ll find Muscle Beach, street performers and tacky shops galore. Fun, VERY interesting, but I avoid it after dark, when it gets a little TOO interesting for my taste.

Santa Monica: Beach and Pier: Great beach scene and a classic seaside amusement park, complete with antique carousel that has been in a lot of TV and movies. After visiting the pier, you can ride a bike south a couple miles to Venice Beach.

Sunset Boulevard began as a route between the stars_ posh neighborhoods and the Hollywood studios. It runs from downtown to the ocean, passing through the _Sunset Strip_ on its way.

Farmers Market and The Grove - A new shopping complex right next to a Los Angeles landmark, It is right next to CBS, so walk across the lot to see if they are taping _The Price is Right_. You might even get in.

Griffith Park - Home of the Los Angeles Zoo, Griffith Park Observatory, Travel Town, the Greek Theatre, and Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage.

Getty Museum - The Getty_s architecture is so beautiful that it keeps me fascinated. No matter whether you like their art, architecture, or view better, the Getty is sure to please. Free.

Attend a TV taping - You can get free tickets at audiencesunlimited.com, tvtix.com, or see the booth at Universal City walk. It_s very interesting to see a show being taped. The most popular, by far, is the Tonight show. Check the NBC web site for all the details there.

    Places to eat:
In-N-Out Burger: Multiple locations, best burger in LA, ask anyone.
Pinks Hot Dogs: 709 N. La Brea, just north of Melrose. You might even see a celebrity. Maybe.
Tommys Chili Burgers: Look for the shack, an LA tradition. The original location is at Beverly _ Rampart, a couple miles west of downtown.
Canters Deli: 419 N. Fairfax, between Beverly _ Melrose. Near CBS, you might spot a celebrity.
Phillippes: 1001 N. Alameda. Great roast beef sandwiches. Near Union Station and Olvera Street. Watch the mustard, its hot.
Titos Tacos: Voted best tacos in LA, even though its in Culver City.
The Pantry: Corner of Figueroa and 9th, downtown. Huge portions, they never close, GREAT steak and eggs.

    Places to Shop:
    Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica
    The Grove, Los Angeles
    Americana @ Brand, Glendale
    Beverly Center, Los Angeles
    Citadel Outlets, Commerce
    Brea Mall, Brea
    The Block at Orange, Orange
    South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa
    Fashion Island, Newport Beach
    Santee Alley, Los Angeles

  • the aquarium!! i_m going to volunteer there soon ^.^ after i finish taking the required classes -.-;; it_s worth it anyways. disneyland, i think it_s still free for kids under 2 years old...not sure. my parents said i was free until the age of 3.
long beach_s beach is dirty _._ i came out of the water and there was black spots on me :_[ other than that, i think it_s a nice place(well the nice side).
  • Where are the best parking places near Arrowhead stadium to park for Chiefs games?|125130

im going to a kansas city game in a couple weeks and have never been to arrowhead, and locals have some good tips on where to park? i dont really want to spend $28 on a stadium parking pass. preferably cheap, less than 1 mile walk (maybe 2 max) with an easy escape to the interstates. thanks in advance!

  • As you exit Interstate 70 (heading east with Kaufmann _ Arrowhead Stadium on your right hand side), instead of making a right towards the Truman Stadium Sports Complex and the church (where $15 parking does exist, not bad), make a left towards a Denny_s _ a motel. Go across the George Brett bridge crossing back over Interstate 70. You_ll go through a few lights but you will enter a neighborhood. The people there rent out their yards to park (similar to college games). There are many homeowners who will only charge you $5-$10 to park your car. In fact, one homeowner (who works for Anheiser Busch) also threw in a six pack of beer for parking there. You can_t beat that!

As previous commentators have mentioned, get there early though. The tailgating scene is amazing. The walk from the aforementioned neighborhood back across the bridge to the stadium is about 15 minutes. The homeowners who rent out their yards sit out on the porch and watch the game, and your automobile too. I have had great experiences with their service. Enjoy the game!

  • If I were you, I would park so you could exit onto Raytown Rd. at the side of the stadiums, it_s much quicker to get out of the stadium right there. Park over at Denny_s or the motel and walk over to the stadium about a half mile.

  • Right across from the parking lot entrances, there is a Church. The parking only cost $15 dollars and you_ll be able to avoid the massive traffic jam when leaving the crowded stadium.

Avoid parking at the hotels and definitely do not park at the Denny_s Restaurant. You will be ticketed and towed!

    `

  • Yep, parking has really increased over the years. The church charges $15 and is unpaved. If you don_t plan to tailgate, you can park at the church and houses on the east side of Blue Ridge Cutoff, which is across from Gate 2. This is just south of I-70 and is on the east side of the stadium gates. It is not far to walk (in fact, some folks who park in lot N walk further).

It is easiest to reach if you are heading NORTH on Blue Ridge Cutoff... so to do that, you must exit on 63rd Street eastbound, then go north on Blue Ridge Cutoff about 2 miles.

If this is your first time at Arrowhead, arrive early and breathe in the smells of tailgating. It is a great scene and home of the best tailgaters in the NFL.
  • Santa Rosa california a dangerous place to live in?|124439

so im moving to cali pretty soon
and i was planning on moving
    to santa rosa california
but i have been hearing that
    its pretty dangerous
    lots of gangs crime
    scarry people.
eek is it a good place to live in?
my other option is to move to sacramento
i doubt thats any better though
i really want to move some where around
    there any advice?

  • First person is right. Santa Rosa is good living. Pretty much the entire Bay Area is nice. Dont let them scare you. Im from Fort Pierce Florida and when I moved to San Jose, it was paradise. I lived on the east side and listened to them talk about how bad it was for 5 years. Yeah theres some gangs in San Jose, but if you compare it to places on the east coast, its disney land. I moved out a few years ago but I_m 25 and so I was personally around the Nortenos in that area most of the time. Majority of them are considered _gang members_ but they really arent dangerous at all. Im not trying to put them down but I think they are kind of soft because they have such a cushioned life in that area. Once in a while theres a murder, but the murder rate is low compared to any other area of its size. The areas that are considered bad in the Bay is East Oakland, East Palo Alto, and Richmond. I_ve only been to East Palo Alto cuz I worked there and I can say that its not as scary as they make it out to be. In general, the Bay Area is one of the safest places to live. You will be like a spoiled kid living out there. I moved to Thailand but if it wasnt for my love of exotic beaches I would have chose the Bay out of anywhere in USA.

  • omg 8 months ago i moved from vero beach florida to santa rosa california

    i love it so much

this is a pretty quiet, city at night and its pretty busy and full of traffic during the day, but its not bad, like i said i love it

  • I can only say that nearly everywhere in CA there are large numbers of Hispanics. When you get a lot of Hispanics, you get the gangs that are a part of the lifestyle. Generally, you can stay away from them, at least you used to be able to. The best thing to do is check the neighborhood several times during the week at different times. Look at the neighborhood schools and nearby graffiti. You are correct though, gangs are a huge problem all through CA.
    Good luck.

  • Santa Rosa is extremely nice, except for a few crummy blocks on the south end, and a couple of apartment complexes in the west end. Other than that, the remaining 95% is really quite nice Where did you hear all that? Santa Rosa_s quite lovely.

  • Sacramento is much more liberal but as far as Santa Rosa goes it depends where exactly in the city that you_re going to move to.

There are some good neighborhoods out there.

  • It_s no more dangerous to live There- than any place Else. So MOVE, enjoy the Adventure- _ may You live there- happily ever after !!! :)

  • uh i thought that was L.A. santa rosa hella cool but my cousins live in winzler i always go there for the summer

How old do you have to be to stay at a hotel alone?|109517

I mean, if you were traveling by yourself, how old do you have to be to stay at a hotel? Can a 17 yrs and 8 monthes old stay somewhere alone?

  • Most hotels/motels require that you are 18 years old to stay. Almost every big name hotel will check your ID. Many less expensive motels such as Motel 6, Budget Inn, Super 8, etc. will not even look at your age unless you are 1.) acting like an idiot 2.) acting in a suspicious manner or 3.) you are a cash paying customer. Make a reservation ahead of time as it makes it less likely that you will be asked for ID. Give a credit card upon checking in - even if it is an ATM/Visa. If you pay cash you will be asked for ID which will usually be looked at carefully and typically an additional cash deposit will be required to ensure you don_t destroy the room. Provided the room is in good condition upon check out you will receive the deposit back.

  • i was 13 and i stayed at a hotel for a day but i had my parents permission

  • 18, checking into a motel is a contract. you must be 18 to enter into a contract

  • You can always call and ask the Hotel.

Personally I can_t remember ever being asked for an ID at a hotel. However I do look older than I am.

  • 18 I_ve been a hotel front office manager for a long time.

  • 18 i am pretty sure

  • HEY!

THE MAJORITY REQUIRE YOU TO BE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OLD, HOWEVER, SOME ALLOW 18 YEAR OLDS TO CHECK IN.

THERE ARE ZERO HOTELS THAT WILL ALLOW ANYONE UNDER 18 TO CHECK IN BY THEM SELVES, EVEN IF THEY HAVE A CREDIT CARD.

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW SOME HOTELS THAT ALLOW 18 YEAR OLDS, E-MAIL ME!

  • You cant be serious.;right?

  • I would think that you would have to be an adult - 18. Otherwise the hotel could have problems if anything happened to you. Call a hotel at random and ask, they_d know best.

I think I stayed in hotels before I was 18, but I guess it depends on what type of hotel. I doubt a regular one would care. An expensive place would most likely check age/id

  • That would be the big 1-8

  • How is the job market for recent college grads in Boston?|110958

I recently finished university degrees in business and finance and am thinking about moving to Boston.

Is Boston_s economy strong right now? Is it relatively easy to land a decent job or is there extreme competition for every available position? Do the available jobs tend to be good enough to make up for the high cost of living there?

I_ve been in places where jobs were plentiful (e.g. Raleigh) and places where they were scarce (e.g. Portland, OR), but I have no idea what Boston is like right now.

    Thanks!

  • The thing about New England is that the distances are very short. You could easily live in New Hampshire or Rhode Island and commute to a job inside of I495.

The cost of living is goes down dramatically if you live outside of I495. I live in NH, on the seacoast and drive to a job in the Boston area. My home cost under $300K and I live a mile from the beach. I drive a hybrid, so my weekly gas bill is less than $30, yet I drive in excess of 400 miles a week. Granted I spend 10+hours a day away from home, and my cars are throw aways.

All things bio-technology are hot in Boston right now. Look at a trade rag online called Mass High Tech. www.masshightech.com. This will give you insight to whats happening in the business world around the area.

  • My honest suggestion, it_s a great city, but not for new grads. Chances are you aren_t going to start off with a high paying job and Boston is a very expensive city to live in, Massachusetts in general is very expensive and is not well-suited for a new grad. student. My advice, work a couple of years, get some experience and get a higher paying job.

  • The job market in Boston is great, however, it is also a very expensive city to live in. You_d have to know exactly what you are up against before you put yourself in financial stress. It can be difficult with a starting pay to make ends meet.
  • What is the weather like in Utah during March? Especially in Bryce Canyon and the Southern Part?|108868

Curious about Utah and the weather during March. I was planning on going to Bryce during March 2-8 but was unsure if the park ever closed due to weather.

Or any advice on places out west to visit that time of year? Looking for a very scenic place and to do some hiking/camping.

  • type Bryce Canyon, Utah into your search engine. You can find out about the weather and when the park is opened or closed. You may also look under national parks.

There are so many scenic areas out west that it can take years to see them. Try the Grand Tetons also.
  • How to get from Westchester County Airport to Manhattan?|175805

Bought a ticket, and have to fly into Westchester County. I will be public transportation dependent, and am not spending big bucks for a cab, etc. Do they run buses from the airport to Manhattan, or do I have to get into White Plains to catch a train?

Also, for anyone who_s done this, is it pretty easy/convenient?

    Thanks.

  • The first person who answered is correct. The bus ride is only 10-15 minutes or so to the train station. You can also get a cab to the train station.

  • I_ve never done it, because so many people have told me it is NOT convenient. You will need to take a bus (Westchester _bee-line_ #12) to White Plains, then get on a MetroNorth train to Grand Central.
  • What special events are occurring in Chicago the week of May 7th?|173715

What special events are occurring in Chicago the week of May 7th? I_m a small town businessman (banking and finance) and will be in Chicago the week of May 7th. What is going on that week that if I attend may help me return a better business person?

  • On May 2nd there is the Polish Parade
  • How important is it to make reservations at hotels and camping grounds when traveling across country by car?|173024

My best friend and I don_t want to make and keep to a major schedule on our trip. We want to run across gemstones and things and not have to worry about meeting a reservation. So if it is important to make reservations, is there any way to do both?

  • Wife and I traveled old route 66 from chicago to California. We did not not make a single reservation in advance (ended up in vegas where we did have reservations). We stayed in motels (non-chain) that were reminiscent of the old days. All were clean and comfortable at low price-all less that 40 a night! Meals in the same vein. Good food and plenty of it for less than 7.00 each per meal. Except Oklahoma City they were all in small town USA.

This is the only way to travel and get the true flavor of Americana by meeting the common people who make this country great and at the same time keeping the money away from the cookie cutter motels and fast food joints and putting it in the hands of those who really need.

I can give you more info if you just ask!

  • It could be a good idea to have reservations so you will know you have a place to sleep.
However, if you have a list of places to stay you can always call them during the day or the day before your stay to make sure they have room for you.
I have been left out in the cold before because I did not plan ahead but waited until bedtime to look for a room.
If you have a general idea as to your route and schedule you could make a reservation for the first night at each stop and then look for another place.

  • well its always a good idea to have reservations, when I travel across the u.s. with my bff we had reservations no were and we slept in the car most of the time...we ran into the problem of small towns with booked rooms (in summer) or a town with any major event going on...
So yeah reservations are great, make a list of the places you will be going or driving through and look up on google ---name of place hotels/camping grounds---- write there numbers down call and as what they expect business to be like around the day you might show up there....and take the numbers along with you and call them when you are close to them or know that your going to be their on a certain day, make reservations.....Remember you can make reservations and cancel them, ask what there cancellation policy is......
-----if worst comes to worst, sleep in the car, in a rest-stop parking lot, and make sure you lock the doors (lol) and you can put up sheets in the windows (for curtains sun rising at 4am sucks) just put the top of the sheet in the window (with it rolled down) then roll it back up and the sheet is stuck in window (learned this from many days sleeping in the car)

Good luck...try to plan a little bit ahead....google _trip planning_ they have forms and stuff that you can print out that will help

  • It_s not .
I_ve traveled all over America during the past almost 40 years and I almost never make reservations. The only exception would be if I have zero flexibility regarding when and where I have to be somewhere ....like if I_m going to an out of state wedding
In addition to the local non-chain motels that another poster mentioned there are all of those nice chain motels that you can negotiate prices with after midnight.
I carry on board my vehicle the AAA guidebooks for the areas I_m visiting along with the individual hard copy national guides for every chain motel in America
One thing :If you want to find all of those Mom _ Pop motels you_re gonna have to seek them out on the routes [mostly US highways ] that were used before the Interstate Highway System came into existence
Needless to say ;thoroughly examine all hotel/motel rooms first before you pay for them
    Safe trip
  • Going to Las Vegas, need a hotel that has a nice gym and workout facilities? Any recommendations?|186317

I am training for a marathon. I am planning a trip to Las Vegas. I want to know if anyone has stayed at a hotel in Las Vegas that has a nice gym or fitness center. Thanks.

  • All the new hotels on the strip have a good workout center, i know the hard rock hotel has a awesome one and so does the Wynn casino but those places are expensive, just go to the website of the hotel of your choice and i_m sure they have a link to their gyms with information, good luck with your marathon race

  • Nearly all brand name Las Vegas hotels come with fitness centers. Of the less expensive hotels I have stayed in, The Plaza (in downtown) and Sahara_s gyms are rather small and out-dated. Gold Coast, Hooters, and Stratosphere have good-sized and new fitness centers. The latter two being accessible 24 hrs., I found that to be convenient.

  • One of the better sources for Las Vegas information (and some pretty good deals) is http://DealsToVegas.com
You can find just about every hotel and the amenities they offer, as well as the best rates currently available. I_ve used the website and have been quite satisfied.

  • You can find the best deals on the following URL :

    http://www.hotels.beginbooking.com/City/

This site compares rates from 30+ booking sites ensuring that you get the best deals. Click on the hotel features to find more about the facilities.

  • there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it_s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

  • Most hotels have fitness centers but not all are _free_ so check.

What are some fun things to do in Texas this spring?|183996

We want to go for a 3 day weekend somewhere in Texas anytime between now and June. Are there any fun festivals? We_ve been to 6 flags, Festa Texas and Sea World already, we_re just looking for somthing different.

  • try Austin, or outside of Austin. There_s Shlitterbaun (sp?) water park and you can also go float down the river (Guadalupe I think)...that_s always fun. cant think of the town its in.

Also coming up is the Scarborough fair. Although I_ve heard the Renaissance festival in Houston is much better.

There is Speed Zone outside of Dallas off 35E.

My fave. are the rafting in the river...and not in Texas but Broken Bow Oklahoma has Kiaking and cabin camping. That was loads of fun.

    You have NASA in Houston

    good luck

  • Right now in Madison, Wisconsin it is 20 degrees F and snowing.

  • If you know about where you might want to go you could contact the Chamber of Commerce for the closest large city and they would most likely flood you with information, to include free or reduced cost coupons for a variety of events. Another possibility is to access the State of Texas website and on their home page look for links to the festivals and other events that might interest you. Yet another possibility would be to access the websites of the larger newspapers and look for links to the fun things. I live close to Houston and subscribe to their newspaper, The Houston Chronicle. Every season they publish a complete section on the stuff you seek. The newspaper websites should be easy to find through Google. If you haven_t been to Houston it would be worth a trip to see our sights which include NASA, Battleship Texas and the San Jacinto Battleground Park (where Texas won its independence), Galveston Island, our baseball park, basketball arena, night life and so on. But if you come our way be sure, once again, to write or e-mail our C of C for information. Also, with the exception of Galveston, don_t come in the middle of the summer (July _ August). The heat and humidity are brutal that time of year. Have fun.

  • Rangle up some dawgies!

  • Do you like camping? there are some really nice sites in the hill country where you can go hiking there are also, cabins that you can rent. This is in central Texas close to Houston.

  • you can go to like a Dude Ranch or something. thats very different :D
  • What are the cheapest dates of the year to travel to South Beach Miami?|194613

I just came back from Miami, and would love to go again soon. Im not sure when the _off_ season is. Any suggestions?

  • July and August because of the heat.

  • There is no real _off-season._ If you want the least amount traffic (ie. people) at the beach, head out during the summer. It_s hot as heck down here, so most of the tourists stay away.
  • How long should a international letter take?|194508

I am using airmail for my letter from australia to U.S.A and it has not arrived. I sent it on the 21 december

  • I would give at least three weeks. If it does not show up in six it is either gone for good or it was sent to the wrong country and could be another month.
  • What are some great things to see and do in Philadelphia?|105605

I am planning on taking my kids to Sesame Place which is close to Philadelphia. I would like to get a hotel room while I am there for the weekend and enjoy the city as well. Are there any great recommendations from anyone of things to see and do? Thanks!

  • Here are some things you should look up:

    The Please Touch Museum (Children)

    The Franklin Institute

    The Reading Terminal Market

    Pennslanding

    Camden Aquarium

    Liberty Bell/Constiution Center

    The Duck Boat Tour

    NJ Battle Ships

    The Naval yard

The Art museum (Not fun for children but is free on Sunday mornings)

    And much more!

    Have fun @ Philly!

  • If you_re taking your kids to Sesame Place, I_m guessing they_re pretty young and probably wouldn_t get the whole US history thing yet, such as the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall tours. However you might like to see it, it_s a pretty area and there_s lots to take in. To keep the kids entertained take a ride on the Ducks...It_s an amphibious vessel that drives around the historic areas and also goes into the river. There is also a great museum, the Franklin Institute which is interactive for kids and they love it. As far as a place to stay, I would recommend the Embassy Suites on the Ben Franklin Parkway. You and the kids can have a decent sized room, convenient for walking around and checking things out.
    Have fun!

  • Sesame Place is in Langhorne, but its close to Philly. It will probably be a 45 minute drive from the city. If you stay in Philly you can go see all the historic stuff, that_s always fun. Old City is cute, shops, restaurants, Liberty Bell, the Constitution Center. You can go for a stroll at the zoo..first zoo in America!..have fun

  • The Philadelphia Zoo! Or take one of the tours on the big bus tour. Depending on how old your kids are the Independence Hall and Liberty Bell are also in Philly. Have fun!

  • Definitely get a real Philly Cheesesteak, not some sandwich that they claim it as one at Fuddruckers.

  • eat a real philley cheesestake

  • What should I do in New York City around Christmas time?|188882

Me and my boyfriend are going to NYC for one day and night to celebrate our one year anniversary. We are going around Christmas time, so we are looking for fun things to do around that time. Any ideas?

  • Ice Skating at Rockefeller Center. It_s so much fun.
Shopping in 34th street Manhattan or in White Plains.
    Watch a show in Broadway.
Have a nice dinner at a nice restaurant or go in Times Square at night. It_s hilarious- there are more lights in the night then there is sun light in the day. :)

  • I can tell you what we did last week in NYC. We drove to NYC, found a free spot on the street. Then, went to a knicks game. After the game we walked uptown, checked out the Macys windows and the other dept store xmas window displays. We stopped at Times square for a little while, saw the naked cowboy posing for pictures with tourists. lol. We then went to see the Christmas tree at Rock-center! You can also go see a show. It was a blast!

    Enjoy!

  • Best time of year and where to see Alaska?|186792

We are planning a trip to Alaska for _08. We are thinking about Aug or Sept. I want to see Alaska when it_s cool, not warm. Also my Dad has been looking in to it and he has been told Homer is the place to go. We want to do some Halibut fishing, but also hiking, kayaking, and see wildlife and the glaciers etc.

What are your ideas/experiences and are we on the right track?

  • First off, go for August. September can be pretty chilly here, think of it this way: we_ve had snow the first week of October. Besides, August is good fishing season. Homer is okay, but really all those things you listed can be done somewhere a bit more exciting, look into Kenai or Seward. Kenai has whitewater rafting, kayaking, great fishing, and lots of Kenai Fjord cruises fairly inexpensive that take you right up to glaciers, or nearby islands with tons of wildlife. If you want to go the other direction, head to Denali National Park. Denali is the best for camping, wildlife, hiking, and general scenery, not so much on the fishing though. Anyways, don_t get so caught up in the outdoorsy stuff that you forget to look around. Anchorage is a pretty neat place to visit, and fairly historical with the few museums and old architecture.

Basically, just do as much as you can. Sometimes, living in Alaska is like living in three states at once, there_s so much to do it_s impossible to choose one track.

  • The whole state is great but if you don_t like the heat avoid the interior in the summer. SE Alaska is probably has the coolest weather in the summer but is also the wettest as it is located in a rain forest. Glacier Bay (near Gustavus (near Juneau)) and Tracey Arm are world renown for their glaciers calving into the ocean. Juneau has probably the only drive-up glacier in the world. Admiralty Island (near Juneau) has the highest concentration of brown bears anywhere in the world.

  • homers amazing ive lived here for 13 years..you should come here aug is still pretty warm, but it gets breezy.....yes you can do all that stuff here, but we dont do it lol since we live here. EW please dont go to lands end.....uhg its a local resturant, its so nasty! trust me! my family used to go there and in the last year its just gross! the best sea food and wine resurant is captain patties! on the spit! its amazing you should go there, also on the spit, you should go to better sweater and a really good burget place is glacier drive in, i love it!!!! we have a sea life center, but no animals yet, but its pretty cool, you might want to take a ride out east end...just to see its scenery, oh and the town usally goes up east hill, theres a spot there that you can see the whole town!! kk take care

  • my husband went in September and it was breathtaking he brought back beautiful pictures and had the time of his life fishing. Salmon was great from there. He also said that the weather was not all that cold when he went.

I want to go with you!!!

  • I live in Wasilla Alaska .I also go to Homer to Halibut fish.I would sugest a Resturaunt at the end of the Homer Spit (a mini peninsula in Homer) Called Lands End .Also if You Stay in Homer the only major hotel is Best Western If you ant one of the suites with a hot tub get the room a little in advance.Watching Bald Eagles and photographing them is pretty cool. If you drink check out Homer Brewing Company. Its a microbrewry.Be very carfull on the highway between Anchorage and Homer Its a 2 lane road with several passing lanes ,but people do get impatient and try to pass unsafely .It is called the most deadly highway in Alaska.
Have fun be safe and if you have any questions e mail me.

  • I lived in Alaska for 5 months, and I absolutely loved it! I was there from May - September, and the average temp was 70 degrees. There was also 24 hours of daylight, which was hard to get used to. We used to go fishing after work, and then freak out, because it would be 3:00 am, and we had to be at work at 8:00am. Denali was Wonderful! We saw lots of grizzly bears, moose, caribou, and dall sheep. They have alot of things to do there, like hiking, white water rafting, horseback riding, and you can even take helicopter rides around Mt. Mckinley, and see all the glaciers. Another neat place to check into is Valdez. I didn_t like Anchorage, because it is just a big tourist trap, and looks like downtown Detroit. It wasn_t very relaxing. Fairbanks didn_t have a lot of stuff to do either, but it was still neat. Anyway, You will not regret your decision to go to Alaska. It is the most beautiful, peaceful place I have ever been to. Just a reminder, put your food in a tightly sealed container and hoist it into a tree away from your campsight. This is due to the Grizzly bears. There were several maulings while I was there, and also the Moose can be dangerous if you get too close. Have fun!

How much leave from work do you get on average in America?|181906

My wife and I are looking at moving to New York in the near future and would like to know roughly what a company give you ? Also any national holidays would be good to :-)

  • It depends on 3 things: The state you live in, the company you work for, and what kind of employee you are. I live in Florida and the average amount of vacation time you are allowed per year is about 3 weeks, with an extra week or two if you have a personal reason for taking the time off. I have family living in New York and they tell me its pretty much the same thing there. In addition, you will get Christmas Eve, Christmas, 4th of July, and Thanksgiving off. For most companies, those are the only holidays you get off, but like I said earlier, it depends on the company.

  • There is not a national policy - it is determined by the company you work for. Paid holidays are typically Christmas Day, New Years Day, Thanksgiving, Labor Day, 4th of July, Memorial Day and Martin Luther Kings Birthday and Presidents day. If you are in retail however - you don_t even get those off.

You might have some sick days and you might have some vacation after at least a year on the job. Most common is 1 week for every year you_ve been there.

  • Usually you get 10 days vacation + 5 days personal... so basically 3 weeks. Holidays are roughly 10 total days.

Of course, so many things are negotiable. If you have 10+ years of experience, you might get 4 weeks off with some employers.

  • New Years Day
    Christmas Day,
    Memorial Day
    Labor Day
    Thanksgiving Day
    4th of July

  • 12 paid holidays and 10 vacation days.
    You earn sick days

  • I am considering moving to Denver From Tennessee what is Denver Like?|161920

I am looking for someone who is from Denver. I am planning to move out there because my husband_s family is in Denver. Currently we have no family near us in Nashville. What are the pros and cons of Denver? What are some good neighborhoods to live in?

  • Denver_s awesome. I hope someday I_ll find myself back there. Good neighborhoods include, but are not limited to: Cherry Creek, Englewood, Lakewood, Littleton, Highlands Ranch. There are a lot of great neighborhoods, actually. The weather is great out there. You get all 4 seasons, unlike the south where it_s just hot, hot, and hotter. What_s cool about Denver weather is that a lot of time when it snows, it_s sunny and beautiful the next day (every now and then you do get blizzards, though). There_s a lot of great shopping, lots of great music venues, and a lot of great bars (someone told me that Denver has more bars per capita than any other city in the U.S.) The people are very friendly there, and you_re close to the mountains. The only bad thing about Denver are the Bronco fans (not the Broncos, just the fans).

  • Metro Denver is a nice city, Very clean, traffic is horrible for a smaller city however _ it is expensive to live here. I moved here last year(2008) from northern New Jersey(metro NYC area). It has almost anything a person could ask for. Only problem is the economy now. Unemployment is high!

  • Like Karen said.move here and don_t look back. Moved here 16 years ago from NJ. to Castle Rock about 30min. south of Denver. Would never move back to Jersey or anywhere else. Love it here. Check out
    http://www.townofcastlerock.org

Voted one of the top 10 family friendly towns by Better Homes and Gardens and Family Circle Magazines

  • i just moved away from Denver and miss it terribly. please see my answer in your other question and i explain Denver to you in it. Its a great town, especially if you have a family it feels very safe

  • I moved here from NY 20 years ago and never looked back, you will like the dry air and more days of sunshine than Florida, mild winters albeit we did have our fair share of blizzards last winter.. not the norm, concerts, broadway shows major sports teams great shopping and friendly folks.... Lowry and Stapleton are great newer areas to live in, close to the mountains...cons, winters can get cold at times and being from NY i still refer to it as a cowtown.
  • What are some things for kids to do during spring break in The Woodlands?|172620

I_m a nanny and this spring break I have an 11 yo, 2- 8 yo, and a 2 year old. Whats there to do?

  • With the ages you_ve got, I think the museums, both at the mall are pretty good choices. If you have the option of going into the city, the zoo is an excellent choice, and if the family has a membership you can probably use it (depending on their level, as I recall).

The libraries might be a good choice. If you can manage the 2 y/o...and the others will actually read...this might be pretty relaxing. With two branches in The Woodlands, you probably have some options. (They don_t update their website very often, so it might be worth calling the branches to see if they have anything special going on for break week.)

The Barnes and Noble at the mall does a weekly story time for older kids too (8-12, I think) but I believe it is on Sunday afternoon.

A couple people have mentioned the Aquarium now; personally, I don_t think it_s a great value for the money. But, it is a pretty good time and can use up a good part of a day.

  • Incredible Pizza in Conroe.

The Children_s Museum in the Woodlands Mall. There is also the play area and carousel in the food court.

    Library.

    Movies.

If you happen to have a bunch of girls, Bath Junkie on Market Street is a big hit with my daughter! Borders on Market Street also does have storytime but I_m not sure of the schedule on that. But what about a boat ride on the Woodlands Waterway?

  • How about a local pool? Drive into Houston and go to the zoo or the aquarium. See if there is a Yahoo Group for moms in The Woodlands (I know there is one for Kingwood). That would be a good place to go for answers.

  • Movies, due to the rain.
    Check the houston paper.

  • All the parks are open, but it_s rainy this week... You can take them to the mall to go to the Children_s Museum and the Natural History Museum extension.

  • Well we just went to the rodeo. It was great! Tomorrow is Rascal Flatts. He_s pretty cool. A good learning experience for the kids. They_ve got a birthing center too where they have cows that are due to give birth during the rodeo and we saw a few chickens hatch. Theres also the aquarium and the childrens museum.
  • Making to trip from Los Angeles to New York in late May for Dodgers Vs Mets. Any advice on everything?|183529

I wanted to see what kind of information I can gather from you wonderful people as far as any travel tips and advice, Any places to stay near Shea Stadium?, What airport is the easiest to deal with in NY? And any other suggestions you can add.... Thank you so much.

  • LaGuardia is virtually a stone_s throw away from Shea (2 miles). You could even see the airplanes fly low from Shea as they are approaching the airport.

There are hotels right across the highway from LaGuardia (Marriott, Crowne Plaza) whereas you can just get a cab from there and should cost you very little. They may even have shuttle service that can get you to Shea.

  • The only way to fly into LGA from LA is to change planes somewhere.

LGA has a limit of 1500 miles on flights (except that Denver was grandfathered in).

Non-stop flights from LA use JFK (or Newark).

  • We_re going to NYC in July -- most domestic flights go into LaGuardia and it_s closer to Manhattan so cab fare would be less. International flights use JFK.

  • lga airport 3 miles from shea
    and motels

What is the current situation at Hoover Dam? How bad are the delays with the construction?|194502

I_m driving up to Las Vegas from Phoenix Thursday night and was just curious about the construction situation. I should be passing over Hoover Dam around 10:30 pm. What can I expect in delays and construction zones. Can I assume at nightime the delays will be less than during the day? Thank you for the help.

  • I just got back from Las Vegas this past weekend. When you_re going through the Dam at 10:30 PM, there shouldn_t be any traffic. We headed back into Phoenix on Sunday at 1 PM and we were stuck in Hoover Dam traffic for almost 2 hours. So either leave REAL early or leave really late to avoid the traffic. Once you get past the Hoover Dam area, there is no traffic. Have fun!

  • The Dam is not that busy at the moment, as we are out of tourist season. During the summer it can take 2+ hours to travel through that section, but at this time of the year the travel time (including the wait with construction traffic) should only be less than 30/45 mins.

We had a slight issue earlier on as the cranes crashed to the US93 but that_s all cleared up now.

Have a great and safe trip to Vegas!

  • real bummer, try to go through laughlin if you can, and avoid dam if you can -

site gives you some information. shall be a great asset when completed..

  • I just drove over it (from Phoenix to Vegas) this past Sunday. Hit Hoover Dam around 3 p.m., and was amazed at how empty it was. I was almost scared that something had happened and I hadn_t heard about it--that_s how empty it was. Having said that, if you can plan to hit it early in the morning (before 9), I_ve found that_s always best. And of course, Fridays and Saturdays are the worst. Construction was no problem, and they_ve cleared up the damage caused by the falling cranes. So really, all you need to worry about is tourist traffic.

Is there any good shopping to do in new orleans during the essence festival?|170048

im supposed tobe going for the essence festival, and i was wondering will they have shopping malls there or vendors at the festival?

  • I_m sure they have vendors at the festival, though I_ve never been. But they do have LOTS of shopping. There_s the french market in the French Quarter, which is just one long open air market. Individuals come to sell there stuff, be ready to haggle. There is the Riverwalk , well, on the river, next to the aquarium. Then all along Decatur St. and N. Peters there are little shops. You can get local items, pralines, Cafe_ DuMonte mixes, Voodoo dolls, anything you can think of that you associate with New Orleans or Louisiana. Canal St is where the higher end stores are, Sacks, Norstrom, etc. Hope this helps, have fun.

  • Of course there is good shopping in New Orleans! The French Quarter is full of antiques, original artists, New Orleans art, and also tourist stuff. I know this was already mentioned, but Royal St, Decatur St, Jackson Square are good starting places.

Also, look on Magazine Street for loads of shopping. Same stuff as the Quarter but also specialty shops and unique shopping.

    Enjoy your trip!

  • The Riverwalk and Canal Place are the two shopping malls in the city center. There are many shopping malls in the suburbs, but you would need to drive or take a cab to them.

As the other answerers mentioned, the French Quarter and city center are full of places to shop within walking distance of downtown hotels.
  • What is your favorite vacation destination in the USA?|193542

My husband and I are having our 5th wedding anniversary next month and we would like to celebrate by going on a week long vacation. We also have a 2 year old, so we need something family friendly.

So my question is, what is your favorite vacation destination in the USA, why is it your favorite and also what are some fun things to do while there?

    Thanks!

  • My favorite destination is San Diego, California. We went there for a week 2 years ago and it was so wonderful! We went on a whale watching cruise, did the scenic drive which took us to some wonderful spots, went to a local farmers market (bought oranges and dates to take back home), and much more. It was absolutely wonderful.

We also went to Sea World (it was okay, you child might like it, but did not meet my expectations), the San Diego Zoo (great!), and the Wild Animal Park (This was absolutely fabulous!). At the Wild Animal Park since it was our honeymoon we sprang for the AFrican safari tour which was completely worth the money. We got to see many animals up close and pose for photos with giraffes inches away. We also got to feed the giraffes!

I highly recommend San Diego! It went much above my expectations! Very affordable too. We did not stay in a prime location or pricey hotel but we rented a car and got around the area in minutes.

I live in the UK. I wish to go to the USA and work/live for a year say. How do I do this?|156567

Please provide info on whether i need to get a job before I can go. Do I need a green card? What is their website as there seems to be a lot of different green card lottery websites. Or are there any organisations that offer this, like say BUNAC. I am not a student.

  • You can go to the web page below to get info on applying for a temporary work visa to the united States. Stay away from the sites that want to charge you money to help you. Check with British companies that hace branches in the states. You can also go visit for 90 days without a visa and look for an employer during that visit. Good Luck.
  • How can I use The Law of Attractions successfully?|124763

I have watched the movie several times and I am a believer. My question is how can I use it correctly to receive whatever it is that I really want?

  • The Law of Attraction refers to the idea that what you focus on you attract. For example, if you focus on getting a new job, picture it, believe it in your mind 100%, you will draw a new job to you. The idea is you attract what you focus on, good or bad. So stay focused on what you want instead of what you don_t want. I have personally experienced the law of attraction working time and time again. Give it a try...you won_t be sorry. Hope that helps!

You can also check out a Google group,

that may help you learn to use the LOA principles successfully.

  • It_s simple. You only have to get it right. Remember, it works all the time and it_s working in everyone_s life.

    1. Know what you want. Make sure it_s something you really want.
    2. Ask.
    3. Visualize you are having it.
    4. Believe it_s already yours.
    5. Detach from the outcome. Make sure nothing blocking you from getting it.

You can learn more about the Secret Law of Attraction at source link below.

  • Just keep believing...just keep believing... just keep believing... NOT!

Stop believing pseudoscientific BS, and stop believing that movies are real.

Oh, gotta go check out my Nostradamus predictions for tomorrow!

Just out of curiosity, what does this have to do with LA travel? The spirituality forum might give you a better audience.

  • Ask for what you want. Be specific.
Know that you_re going to receive it.
    Receive it.

    It_s really just that simple.

    NOTES:

    There_s no belief required.

  • you have to believe on it.and then you have to work on it. then you will get it.

How much is a regular season Chicago Cubs ticket?|177360

I need it for a report but can_t find prices on ticketmaster or the cubs web site. So, can someone please give me a range of how much they were last season? Prices for both good seats and not so good seats would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Hi-
I am not finding the average for last year- but here is an announcement regarding 2007 prices- and a link about the increases that were expected for 2006. Hope that helps at all....

The Chicago Cubs today announced their 32-game spring training schedule for the 2007 Cactus League season. The Cubs_ exhibition campaign - which begins Thursday, March 1, against the San Francisco Giants - will conclude with a pair of contests against the Seattle Mariners in Las Vegas, Nevada, March 30-31. All games are scheduled to begin at 1:05 p.m. Arizona time unless otherwise noted.
Information on ticket prices and on-sale dates for the Cubs 2007 spring campaign will be announced in the near future.

  • Tickets are priced based on the desirability of the game. Saturday games in June, for example, are more expensive than Tuesday games in April.

Very good seats on the best days were $54 last season. You could spend more on some of the new box seats in the first 3 rows but that pricing is an aberration.

  • Well, here is a story about the ticket price increase from 2004 to 2005, if that_s any indication. not sure how much they are now.

BTW, the 2005 World Series Champion Chicago White Sox aren_t AFRAID to post their ticket prices. (

  • Cheapest and Safest ways to get from Newark to NYC?|168765

We_re planning a vacation and I_ll have three women with me and we_ve decided to stay in NJ and venture in to NYC for our day and early evening excursions.
I believe we_ll be very close to the Newark airport as far as where we_re staying and I_m wondering if someone can give me some ideas of how we can get to NYC, rates, etc?

    Thanks!

  • You can take the NJ Transit train from Newark Airport to New York. It_ll cost you as follows-

    Adult One Way $15.00
    Child/Senior/Disabled One Way $11.25*

    * The Newark Airport Rail Station access fee will no longer be charged for child fares (age 11 and under).

However, if you are closer to Newark Penn Station, you can take the Path train into New York City for $1.75 each way

Newark Penn Station and the station at Newark Airport are both very safe. Just use common sense and don_t wait for the train on an empty track at night. :) Good luck!

How long will it take to drive from Cupertino (near San Jose) to Los Angeles this Thursday?|164758

I_m planning to leave late morning and I want to get to LA before 6 (laker_s game) because I want to watch it. About how long will it take including all that traffic and rush hour?

  • not that long its like 4-5 hours but you could take a plane its like $100 and it only takes like an hour. plus its better to take a plane because gas would cost you around that anyways. but its also good to take a car because you can drive around. but what ever is cool

  • It really all depends WHERE in LA you need to go to. Valley? Hollywood? Compton?

If you take the fastest route, you will take 101 south to 152 east, then turn on the afterburners and jet down to LA on I-5. As you approach LA, your first sign of traffic may be around Glendale or Burbank. But it depends on where you are going after that. You definitely want to avoid downtown. But once you get past Griffith Park southbound on the 5, you will start hitting outbound LA traffic.

10:00 is a safe start time. I_d worry if you didn_t start until noon. Remember, you cannot break the laws of physics.

  • if you_re driving 75ish it_s about 5 hr w/your gas stop in good traffic. dude .. leave a little earlier. any nocal rush traffic compared to l.a. traffic is bush league. you don_t wanna be getting to the outskirts after 4pm .. getting there early and staring at a wall is still better than that mess. if you can get onto the 5 by 11ish you_re gold.

  • In a perfect world, if you take Highway 5 it would take five hours. However, as you note, rush hour traffic will be intense, especially around Staples Center.

I_d say leave at least by 10:00. Better to have extra time in LA than be stressed out.

  • havn_t made that drive in a while, but it used to take us about 5 hours, to play it safe, plan for 8 incase traffic gets bad or something . . . it never heurts to get there a little early ;-)

  • Somewhere between 6 hours and 2 days, depending on traffic.
  • What is the best hotel in Philadelphia Pa?|189956

Okay I admit I am sort of a hotel snob. I like 4 and 5 star hotels. My family and I are going to philly for the weekend and I want a nice hotel but I would like it really close to all the historical things. Does anyone have any suggestion. Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • If you want to be by the historical sites, you want to stay in Olde City. (Although I agree with the other posters that it would also be great to stay in Rittenhouse.) In Olde City, try to get a room at the Omni. It_s fancy, beautiful, and in the heart of Philly_s historical sites.

  • It really depends on what you are looking for.

The top two luxury hotels in the city are the four seasons and 1615 rittenhouse. They are both located near the Rittenhouse square area.

However, given your preference for historicals, I would check out the Sheraton Society Hill, the Hyatt Penns Landing and the Holiday Inn Historic district, all are in the historic area.

You can_t go wrong with either, really, if you choose to stay in Rittenhouse, the Phlash shuttle is still running until the end of the month, or its a nice walk.

  • Some suggestions:

TripAdvisor ranks the Alexander Inn (
    http://tinyurl.com/4vxta7)
as the best hotel, but it is a 3-star hotel.

The first 4-star hotel listed by TripAdvisor (which is usually quite reliable) is the Sofitel (

    or
    http://www.booking.com/hotel/us/sofitel-

Another type of ranking could be found at Booking.com, which is another reliable site, because they basically email people who have booked with them, asking them to rank (something that prevents _fake_ reviews):

  • How much would a taxi cost for about 32 miles in the Philly area?|166381

i live in the suburbs and i want to get to camden.
is it even possible to get a taxi from there, and if so how much would it cost if its about 32 miles.

i NEED to get to warped tour.

  • Did you try
    http://www.taxifarefinder.com/
    ?

  • Shoredude almost had it right.

Take the Septa Regional Rail train into Market East, but forgo the walk to the river from there. It_s about ten blocks from the station and if you_re unfamiliar with the city, you_ll probably wind up lost. Also the ferry is VERY slow, and not as dependable as you might like in terms of on-time.

Instead follow the signs inside Market East station to the PATCO Hi-Speed-Line at 8th Street. You can reach it underground from the Market East station. There_s a PATCO station just across the river in Camden, a short walk from the concert center.

  • Consider $2.50 per mile, so you_re easily over $75.

Take the train into Philly and get off at Market East. Walk east on Market St. to Penn_s Landing and take the ferry over to Camden which will leave you off right by the Susquehanna Bank Center (formerly the Tweeter Center).

PS..There_s no way I_d ever think of a young woman walking the streets of Camden. It_s a few blocks walk and not into a nice neighborhood. So avoid the PATCO.

  • Don_t take a taxi to Camden, definitely take the high speed line. Google PATCO to get the exact fare, but I think it_ll be $4.50 round trip. Or you could pay between $40 and $50 for a cab. PATCO is great though, and drops you off right there, either Broadway or City Hall stop.

  • You better take a loan out.
  • What are some nice florida beaches with good weather in February?|188515

We need some nice beaches. We_re planning a trip. We don_t know where is good and where is not. we are clueless and just want to get tan.
Good weather is sunny and 60_s and above.

    thanksya

  • You can try Clearwater or St Pete on the West coast of FL or Daytona or Cocoa Beach on the east. Feb might still be a little cool but as long as the sun is out you should be able to tan in Feb. The water might be a little chilly.

  • As a St. Pete resident I would have to agree with Josh, the Gulf Beaches (Clearwater, St. Pete Beach, Madeira Beach, etc) in Pinellas county are beautiful.

St Petersburg is nick named the _Sunshine City_ because we get an average of 360 days of sunshine each year. So if you choose to vacation here the weather will more than likely be _good._

You can find out more about the City of St. Pete using this link:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Petersb

Pinellas county is home to Caladesi Island State Park which is America_s #1 Beach for 2008. The beach is located in Dunedin, Florida

    More info about Caladesi Island:

Pinellas county is also home to Ft. Desoto Park which consistently ranks in America_s top 10 beaches. In 2005 it was ranked the #1 Beach in the nation.

    More info about Ft. Desoto:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_De_Sot

Siesta Beach in Sarasota is also very beautiful and is ranked #3 for best beaches in the U.S.

    http://www.worldhum.com/travel-blog/item

I have personally been to all of the beaches I mentioned several times and you guys will not be disappointed. All of these beaches are also in very close proximity to St. Petersburg.

  • Nowhere in Florida is guaranteed to be warm in February. Just this month we_ve had a range from 32 degrees to 82 degrees. Really cold weather only really occurs a couple of weeks or so in the winter, but you never really know. It usually doesn_t last for more than a few days or so at a time. The farther south you go, the better chance you have of consistently warmer weather. Miami, the Keys, etc. would probably be the best bet.

  • If you just want the beach, and wimpy water, then the gulf is your best bet. But if you want the beach and, the ocean for surfing, body boarding, etc., and warmer water than the gulf then south Florida-- Palm Beach, Lake Worth, Boynton, Delray etc.

Can anyone recommend the best restaurants at Disney World?|187865

I need suggestions for breakfast and dinner at each park. I also would like to know if you have any favorite downtown Disney restaurants. If there are really good resort restaurants list them too.

This is for a 9 yr old girl and mom.

  • Any of the restaurants in Epcot_s World Showcase are amazing! It all depends on what kind of cuisine you like!
The Liberty Tree Tavern is also really good in Magiv Kingdom (amazing pot roast!)
Downtown disney theres the Rainforest Cafe, which is a ton of fun for all ages!
Chef Mickey is pretty cool for character breakfast, it has all the traditional characters come around (mickey, minnie, goofy, pluto etc)
And if you want the best ice cream in the world theres a vendor outside of the France pavillion in Epcot. AMAZING ice cream!!!

  • AK: Breakfast: character meal at Tusker House, Dinner at Yak_Yeti

MK: character breakfast at Cinderella_s Royal Table, Dinner: character meal at Crystal Palace

Studios: Nothing special for breakfast, dinner at Sci-Fi Diner

Epcot: Breakfast at Sunshine Seasons Food Fair, Dinner at the San Angel Inn.

Also--see this page for links to rankings of all the sit-down restaurants, including those at the resorts.
    http://yourfirstvisit.net/planning-your-

There_s too many great places to dine at the resorts to list here, but the character brunch at Chef Mickey_s (contemporary) and the family skillet meal at the Whispering Canyon (WIlderness Lodge) are particularly good for a family like yours!!

At Downtown Disney, the kid-pleasers is the Rainforest Cafe

Hope this helps and have a great trip!! Dave

  • On my last nine-day trip the Tutto Italia Ristorante, in the Italy section of Epcot, was my absolute favorite place to eat. They are a bit pricey if paying, but if on the dining plan it just counts as one dinner, not two like the character buffet in the Magic Kingdom with less appetizing food at their buffet.

The food was absolutely stunning, the dessert succulent, the service better than I expect (even from Disney), and the atmosphere, while crowded, was fantastic. Well worth the extra-high tip we gave our server (we were on the dining plan).

Oh, and the one by the race cars mentioned above (at Magic Kingdom)? I didn_t like it at all. Even though they shared a kitchen, they have three order sections dedicated to three different menus respectively, and would not let me get fries at the sandwich side even though they were plentiful 20 feet away at the burger side (again, all connected...they couldn_t walk over and grab some fries, because _the computer wouldn_t let them_).

They were also turning people away when I was there because they were _too crowded_ even though there were open tables and lines weren_t that long (I had to talk my way in to rejoin my family when I went out to get other food instead of ordering there, and that was a chore). I will never eat at that restaurant again. And if I see the manager I spoke with at a different restaurant (Disney likes to move management around), I will not eat there either. He was no help at all...just defensive and in over his head.

  • There are so many, I_ll give you my favorite counter service and table service in each park. Check out www.allears.net for current menus and reviews from all restaurants

Magic Kingdom: Pecos Bill_s (Counter Service), Crystal Palace (Table Service)

Epcot: Sunshine Seasons (CS), Le Cellier (TS)

Studios: Backlot Express (CS), Mama Melrose (TS)

Animal Kingdom: Flametree BBQ (CS), Tusker House (TS)

In the resorts some great table service restaurants are: California Grill, Yachtsman Steakhouse, Boma, and many others! Hope you have a great trip!

  • Magic Kingdom: Crystal Palace (character dining with Pooh and friends) Liberty Tavern

Animal Kingdom- Yak and Yeti (fantastic Pan-Asian food)

    Epcot: Garden Grill, Japan, Mexico

Hollywood Studios: Mama Melrose, Sci Fi Drive in Theater,

These are all sit down, most of the food carts are ok, nothing exciting. For breakfast we usually keep supplies in the room or eat at the resort

  • There is one in fantasy land right near the race cars. It serves several different things but their burgers and hot dogs are big and they have a whole condiment bar. One of the best values in the park. Epcot is pricier...you would be better to pick which country you want food from....Germany has a buffet. There is a House of Blues at Downtown Disney that is good.

  • magic kingdom:
    liberty tree tavern
    crystal palace
cinderella_s royal table in the castle.

    epcot:
    electic unbrella
    coral reef
    garden grill
    chefs de france
    bistro de pais

    hollywood studios:
    sci-fi drive in theatre
    50_s prime time cafe
    hollywood and vine

    animal kingdom:
    rainforest cafe

    downtown disney:
    captain jacks

    hotels:
    the contemporary hotel
    chef mickeys
    california grill

  • I like the list already compiled... but wanted to add in that Ohana at the Poly is excellent - but only if you like meat intensive meals.

Stay away from the Wave at the Contemporary. It is overpriced for the taste and quantity of food you receive. I_ve gone there twice and thought it was terrible both times.
