How do I convince my mom to move to Colorado?|110536

My mom got offered a job in Colorado. We live in Las Vegas and I hate it here. We have lived here our whole life and i am done. This may be our only chance to leave Las Vegas. How Should I convince my mom?

  • Go up to her and tell her, _Mom, why don_t we try Colorado?_ This is our chance and you have been offered a job. It is one of the best states to live in (it really is, research it, Google it) I don_t want to live here all my life. I want to go out and experience a new and better life that awaits me in Colorado._ Now, if you know you really want to go and after good research, you are sure. Say this: _I am sure it won_t disappoint me and if it won_t disappoint me, it won_t let you down either._ _We can always start off with a decent home until we can afford something better._ If you love your Mom dearly, say something that will touch her heart. Like this, _I mean, I am your child and I do support you in everything you do but just give Colorado a try and I promise you won_t regret it._ _You wouldn_t want to live here all your life!_ _Have you seen or heard about Las Vegas crime rates?_ _What if something happened to one of us one day? You never know..._ _If anything happens to you, I can only cry my eyes out. Honestly, Colorado is a great place to live._ _I can experience the life there just researching the state online. It is one of the best states to live in._

  • as a colorado resident I can tell that Colorado is, indeed, the best place in the entire world
  • What time of year is the best time to go to Hawaii to catch the best weather there?|123037

I want to visit the islands, but don_t want to experience too much of the endless heat and sun, so I_m looking for the best weather, and ideally no expensive fares. Ideally we want cloudy skies (probably a rarity there, unfortunately), relatively cool temperatures, and maybe some nice breezes from the ocean - generally pleasant weather. Thanks!

  • The weather doesn_t change much throughout the year. There are times of the year that are more susceptible to hurricanes (June through November is hurricane season, with the greatest likelihood being August through October). And, during the winter, there are large ocean swells that come in from the north. The water can be a bit cooler this time of year, to where you would do well to wear at least a partial wetsuit for snorkeling. The swells combined with stronger trade winds (constant prevailing winds out of the east) can make for rough traveling on the water. But, the advantage of going to Hawaii in the winter (december through April, generally) is that_s when the humpback whales return to their breeding grounds in the Hawaiian waters.

And, ironically, it_s during the time when the ocean is rougher due to wind and swells that the whales are the most active. For some reason, the constant activity of the wind and waves on the surface attracts the whales more and they tend to do things like breaching more often. Last time I was in Maui was in February and I went on a snorkel trip to Lanai, across the channel from west Maui. It was 30 knot winds and 6 foot seas. It was so rough, we couldn_t snorkel off of Lanai. But, the whale activity was incredible. At one point, we had a female slapping the water with her fin about 50 feet away from the boat. This drew three males to her, who began breaching out of the water to impress her within about 100 feet of our boat.

Regarding cost, it_s generally less expensive to fly there when people aren_t usually going to be there. The most expensive time is during holidays and traditional travel periods (even in summer). Late fall, and late winter to mid spring are probably the best times to go.

  • Hawaii is not like Singapore which is in the equatorial tropics, i.e., it is in the _trade wind belt_ so there are usually nice breezes to moderate the heat. Also, the islands are failry small, and the Pacific is a lot colder than the Gulf or Caribbean which have _hotter_ islands.

It is rainy in the winter, and can get down into the low/mid 60_s at night, even the upper 50_s until it warms up during the day. I like the winter, but if you are unlucky you could run into rain multiple days in a row, particularly in December. Jan and Feb are colder but are drier than December. Although the average temperature only varies by about 8F from winter to summer, the additional humidity makes it seem a lot colder in winter and hotter in summer. If you don_t like the heat, avoid the summer months. Airfare and hotel rates are higher in the summer anyway.

So, try March, April, October and November. Fares are usually reasonable during those periods as well (except for Spring Break in April) and in the existing bad economy you can get good rates for airfare and hotels really almost anytime now...

  • Any time of year is good to go to Hawaii. The temperatures remain the same year-round (around 80 F in the daytime). If you_re headed to Oahu, Honolulu and Waikiki are the drier sites on the island year-round. Do take an umbrella with you in case it rains. When it rains there, it_s usually on the light side and not very heavy or flooding rains. If you_re at a higher elevation, you_ll be cooler. Hurricane season is June through November, but they aren_t that common in Hawaii like they are in other places (the Caribbean and Florida). From my personal experience, I_d go during the winter.

  • When my husband and I went to Oahu we went in Feb., it was great. We left snow and freezing rain for beautiful tropical weather. It was nice and warm everyday; it did rain one day in the morning but the rest of the time it was paradise.

  • The first time I went, I was with my parents and older brother in April 2001. The second time I went, I was by myself in July 2007. I think they were about the same to me.
  • How bad is Is October in terms of the weather in Miami and the keys?|132858

I will need to go there for two days, but would like to extend it to a week, however, I_m afraid of the forecasts. Is it really likely to raind everyday?

  • It_s technically still hurricane season, but it isn_t going to be rainy unless we get a hurricane. High season for that part of Florida is Thanksgiving-April, so October is a wonderful time to visit before the tourists all flock and make the traffic miserable.

One of my best road trips ever was flying into Miami and renting a car and going down the Florida Keys. The water is 2 different color blues on each side of the highway and to be in a car with the tunes blaring on this little strip of highway, it was awesome. Key West has the best sunsets in the US.

  • The weather patterns this winder tend you bring less rain and bad weather to Florida and the eastt coast.

    Go and enjoy yourself.

  • October has some of the nicer weather here, not too hot.It may rain but around October, it rains alot less often than in the summer. Hurricane season ends Nov.1 but I wouldn_t worry about it. By the way, if a hurricane is coming, the weather is just about perfect about 2 days before the storm.

In Florida, since it is tropical, it may rain a tiny shower for a couple of minutes and that_s it for the day. Occasionally I_ve seen showers that last less than a minute. The tropics are weird like that.lol

I wouldn_t worry much about hurricanes. Just keep an eye on the weather channel and listen to see if any storms are developing. They develop over by Africa so it takes a long time before it is anywhere near Florida.

If you go to Miami, I recommend staying around the beach. If you do want to leave, Then going somewhere like Coconut Grove _coco walk_ is nice. Also In Coral Gables_ _miracle mile_ is also nice. Coconut Grove and Coral Gables are very small cities within Miami.

The keys..the hot spot is Duval street.

Hope this answered your question. Have fun.

  • No, go have fun, perfect weather. Not crowded with Tourists, rates are low. Have a great time!

  • the weather is absolutely beautiful ....it_s still hurricane season, but your chances are slim for one..it does rain everyday, for about 15 minutes at around 3 or 3:30

  • Warmer than up north (in the 70_s-80_s), but Hurricane season doesn_t end until Nov. (and sometimes the Hurricanes forget it_s over).

  • The rainy season has been here since May. If it rains, it usually blows in and blows out.
  • What are your insider tips on visiting New York City?|146151

I_m heading to NYC in a few weeks for a research trip, and I would like to find hidden gems, secret spots, good lunch venues or art galleries, that aren_t usually frequented by tourists. I want to try and experience New York as a New Yorker. Any advice?

  • Morningside Heights and around (Columbia University etc) is a very pleasant area, as is the whole of the Upper West Side, and there are some lovely hidden gems and secret spots around there.

Brave the horror stories and actual go and visit Harlem during the daytime. Stick to the main streets and you will find a very dynamic, city-within-a-city where the demographics and _street_ cultures are noticably different to those of downtown.

  • dont spend too much time with manhattan alone, visit the rest of the boroughs like brooklyn and queens. there_s so many different cultures in their Diasporas and theres so much to see, so many cultures you_ll discover.
if you_re in Queens you can check out Forest Park.

  • How easily is it to take the metro from Chicago Ohare to Union Station?|118171

I will have several suitcases with no help. I will need a cart or something. Is it easy access on and off, from the airport right into Union Station?

  • Not really. The Metra Line that goes by O_Hare doesn_t have a lot of service just yet, since it_s under expansion. Also, you_d have to take the ATS system at O_Hare (AKA the People Mover), then take a shuttle bus to get to the O_Hare Transfer station. And if you need this for a weekend, it doesn_t run then.

This might be almost as tough, but it_s a possible alternative. Take the Blue Line _L_ from O_Hare (underneath Terminal 2) to the Clark/Lake Stop. It has an elevator, which is why I recommend that stop instead of Monroe or Washington. From there, it_s about a 1 mile and change taxi ride over to Union Station. A little more price-wise, but you can get it at any time, which you can_t do with the Metra.

  • your better off taking the blue line and getting off on Clinton go to

  • Can i work in different places in america with a H2B visa?|100212

Me and a friend are hoping to travel and work on our way in America. I_ve been looking into which Visa we both would need and as far as i can see the H2B Visa is the one. What I am unsure on is, does this visa only entitle us to work at one specific place with one employer or can we travel to different places and work? The trip would hopefully be about 6 months and start at San Francisco from the UK.

    Any help or advice welcome.

  • An H2B visa is specific to an employer. You are not allowed to change jobs unless you quit. And an H2B employer is not going to be happy about that! H2B employers have to pay all the fees to get you here, including one-way airfare, so they really want someone who is going to stay with them.

If you quit your job, the H2B employer has to report you to Dept of Homeland Security. This is not a good thing for you.

You can, however, extend your H2B visa to another employer, preferably at the end of your first H2B visa. You will have to do your homework and find someone to sponsor you for both visas. You do not have to leave the USA to get the second H2B visa.

Your best bet may be a J1 work and travel visa. There are J1 agencies that can assist you with this.

Or you can simply come as tourists, travel around and not work. That might be your best bet.

    Good luck to you.
