What is a good area to stay in when visiting Miami in December?|162344

We are going to Miami in December and trying to figure out where we would like to stay any tips??? Whats the weather like?

Thank you

  • dec. in miami is great! i would stay in none other than south beach, check out the pelican hotel on ocean drive they have uniquely themed rooms

  • Geography for 1st time visitors:

Most visitors want to stay on Miami Beach, a city on a barrier island of the same name off the coast of Miami _ connected to it by several causeways. _South Beach_ is the southernmost 2 miles or so of Miami Beach. It contains the best known beaches, shopping streets, restaurants, clubs, hotels, and the historic _art deco_ district.

    Sobe hotels:
To be in the center of or within walking distance of the center of SoBe you want to stay somewhere below 23d street (address number under 2300) and on or within a block of Washington or Collins Avenues, or Ocean drive. You won_t need a car.

The weather is always perfect in December.
  • Where is the best place to watch a meteor shower in Chicago?|136348

There_s a meteor shower coming up soon that I want to see. I_m in the city of Chicago and leaving the city is not really an option. Where is the best place to watch it in the city because of all the city lights?

  • Ya, if you want to pay and see it well- go to adler of course. But just by eye, then head to the lakeshore- the dunes in Indiana are away from the lights and are a good bet- otherwise head south into the cornfields!

  • I don_t know where but be sure to try watching it on a room in the Monaco hotel while drinking some juice. Or just find a pretty vacant place where you can see the sky clearly to watch the meteor showers.

  • you would have to go at least 30 miles from the city to get away from the lights
other wise you will have to go to the Adler Planetarium

  • Why do people bring their little kids to the Las Vegas strip?|117240

Nothing like playing $50 hands of black jack and having to listen to a little 2 year old screaming or getting your heels clipped by a stroller while trying to make your way through the casino. Bourbon Street is another place where kids should be banned.

  • OMG! I_ve said this before! And have had people rip me apart for it! I look at it this way - if I wanted to be around kids, I_d go to Disney. I firmly believe that there is a time and a place for everyone.

Listen, if you live there, that_s one thing. Away from the Strip, it_s just like anywhere else. But, children don_t belong in certain places - such as fine restuarants, bars, or places where grownups go to have fun. I resent people who bring the children to places where they don_t know to act (i.e. a restaurant) and it REALLY annoys me when kids are in the casinos because there_s nothing that holds their attention, sometimes it_s scary for them with all the noise and people, and they have no expectations on how to act because they shouldn_t be there!

Yes, at one time Vegas tourism DID *TRY* to cater to families to try to compete with Disney. It was an experiment that failed. Deal with it and move along.

  • It_s against Nevada gaming law for persons under 21 to be on the gaming floor. If you are going to play $50/hand for blackjack, you_re better off at the hotels that most strictly enforce the law. That means Belligio, Miarge, Wynn, and Riveria. These resorts cater strictly to adults, and the security staff is far quicker to escort guests with children off the gaming floor.

As far why parents do it, it_s for the same reason they allow kids to run around in restaurants or scream at the top of their lungs and make scenes: They are bad parents. Once a kid came up to me at a table where I was dining and kicked me in the shins. His mother said he was just _expressing himself_. I asked her point-blank if I should _express myself_ by kicking her, or by kicking her kid back.

  • I sympathise with parents that want to go to Vegas for a day or two. Everyone needs a vacation. But Vegas has casinos like Circus-Circus where people with kids are welcomed.

Other adult-oriented casinos aren_t really appropriate for people with little kids (for exactly the reasons you mention). Too bad the adult-oriented casinos don_t say so in their advertisements. Too bad some parents are so clueless as to bring their kids to them (they really shouldn_t have to be told).

  • Because my kids told me they want me to bring them to the Las Vegas strip. My kids alway loved it very much. They were very excited to go to the Circus Circus, buffets, swimming pool, their favorite shopping _Dilliard_, watching their favorite shows, etc.

  • They bring them along because they are too cheep to pay for a baby sitter.
I like what you said in the last sentence about playing in their playground, etc.

  • Because Las Vegas isn_t only just for adults anymore; there_s plenty to see and do in Las Vegas for kids and their parents are willing to spend time with them.

Also, Las Vegas could be a stop to a destination somewhere in Nevada.

  • because this is paradise

  • Some parents just have to have their kids with them at every moment. Seriously, that_s what babysitters are for!

What reasons are acceptable to have speeding ticket court hearing postponed in New Hampshire? Does a reason need to be mentioned? Can you just say that you have prior obligations and need a rescheduling?

  • How much would a cab cost from South Station in Boston all the way to Boston College?|147445

I_m going to be at South Station in downtown Boston at around midnight or one in the morning on a Friday night, and I need to know how much cab fare plus tip would be from there to Boston College. I may have to get a cab if I miss the last T trains...

    Thanks :)

  • That other person is an idiot. Boston College is a long way from South Station, and you should expect to pay at least $25-30, if not more.

  • Here, try this site at
    http://www.taxifarefinder.com

It calculates/estimates the taxi fare when you type in two addresses. It also shows you the route and the duration. Very helpful.

  • About $35. Go to
    http://www.taxifarefinder.com/main.php?c
and put in South Station to Boston College.

  • Definitely not $10!!!! More like $25-40 is my guess. Boston College must be about 10 miles or so from South Station.

  • 10 bucks. Somewhere around there. It_s not that far.
