How do I go from Commack to New York City?|139070

I_m staying at Commack and I want to visit New York city (have also plans of going to New Jersey since it_s near the place). Can anyone tell me the easiest way to go there? I don_t have a car so I will be using any of the public transportation.
Thanks in advanced!

  • If you don_t have a car and have to use public transportation, then you are in luck. Take the LIRR (Long Island Rail Road), it will bring you from Commack into NYC @ Penn Station (underneath Madison Square Garden). From there you can access the NJ Transit, PATH trains, AMTRAK, and NYC subway line (1,2,3,A,C).

  • Take the train...easiest and fastest way!

  • or you can take the lirr and transfer to hicksville and then take the bus from there. i think its cheaper

  • The fastest way is taking the LI-RR trains to Penn station, witch would be the heart of Manhattan, then transfer over to the Path trains that should be heading to New Jersey.

  • lirr to penn station long island rail road and buy your ticket at the little atm looking machines be fore you get on cause they jack up the price on the train
  • Can anyone give me some good driving directions to Massachusetts?|128934

My wife is from Massachusetts. And her family is still there. We got to thinking how nice it would be if we could live there and be close to her relatives again. But we would need some good driving directions from Missouri to Massachusetts. So we could make a little trip up there and find out if we could find any work. Does anybody have any good directions? Does anyone know if there is any work in Massachusetts or the surrounding New England states? I sure can_t find any work here. Thank you everyone.

  • You can get all the info you need at any of these sites ...

  • Uhm yea, if you can_t figure out driving directions from Missouri to Mass, I doubt you will be able to find a job...unless you can say _do you want fries with that_?
  • What historical things are there to see near Mesa Arizona?|143830

I_m going to a place called Sun Lakes Arizona for a week in November. I googled it and it_s near Mesa Arizona. I would like to know what historical monuments or wonders of the world are in that Area. I plan to drive 3 hours (I think?) to the Grand Canyon. Is there anything else I should definately see? Thanks!

  • Sun Lakes is on the southern edge of the larger Phoenix metro area. It is closer to the towns of Chandler, Gilbert and Tempe then Mesa (although Mesa is not that far away either).

Before listing some of the historical and natural attractions in the Phoenix area, I should note that from Sun Lakes, it will actually be about a 4.5 to 5 hour drive to the Grand Canyon (because you are starting from the opposite side of Phoenix). And that is assuming you don_t leave around rush hour.

As the poster above mentions, there is a large historic Mormon temple in Mesa (Mesa was largely founded by Mormons) which is worth checking out. Mesa also has an old historic downtown area with turn of the century buildings.

In downtown Phoenix, the famous Heard Museum is considered one of the nation_s best museums for Native American arts and history. The Phoenix Museum of History is nearby and not too far away (near the Zoo in Papago Park) is the Arizona Historical Society Museum.

Being in Sun Lakes, you will be fairly close to the large prehistoric Hohokam ruins at Casa Grande National Monument (near the town of Casa Grande) which is pretty impressive.

A little to the east of Phoenix are the beautiful Superstition Mountains that are said to be the location of Lost Dutchman Goldmine. There is a interesting (if winding) called the Apache Trail (AZ88) that runs between the mountains and the lakes of the Salt River. Near the start of the road (at Apache Junction) is the Goldfield _Ghost Town_ which is really more of a tourist attraction than a real historic site, but it can be kinda fun.

On your way from Phoenix up the Grand Canyon, you could stop at Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon (famous for its red rocks and expensive resorts). There is also the interesting prehistoric ruins just off the highway at Montezuma Castle National Monument. And if you are into historic sites, you might like Jerome - a historic turn of the century mining town with lots of historic buildings - which is perched on the side of Mingus Mountain a little off the main route to the canyon.

To be honest, while Phoenix has lots of resorts, malls, golf courses and movie theaters (like you would find in any big city), it really does not have that many special attractions (historic or otherwise) that are unique to Phoenix and most of the older historic sections have long since been bulldozed and built over. Most of the more interesting historic and natural attractions are a ways outside the city.

  • There is a beautiful temple in Mesa Arizona, there is also a desert national park and some spectacular desert scenery.
  • Where is the best place to stay while attending the NAIAS in Detroit?|157311

Going to NAIAS 2009 the first weekend. Where (town) is the best place to stay for that weekend? I would like to be maybe 25 - 30 minutes away travel time wise (on a Saturday) and would like to stay in a place that has some good restaurants. I_ve already stayed in Dearborn many many times, so looking for somewhere else? Any suggestions?

  • Head on up Woodward, and stay in Ferndale, Royal Oak, Berkley, or Birmingham. That area has quite a lot of shopping opportunities, the Zoo, Somerset Mall (_Collection_, sorry), and plenty of variety restaurant-wise... That general area is where most of my life takes place. : )

Book in advance, and you should be fine.

EDIT: Skittles, I love Ann Arbor, but why would you suggest it when the Asker wants to drive a half hour or less to the show? Ann Arbor is a 45-60 minute drive from Detroit.

EDIT 2: I just got an e-mail from the Hampton Inn in Madison Heights. They_re in the area I recommended (15-20 minutes from Detroit). It_s a good place to stay - reasonable, clean, good location (ramp to I-75 about 1/4 away).

  • You could stay at the Renaissance Center or the the new Westin Book Cadillac Hotel in Detroit and eat a Fishbones (my favorite). If you want to stay outside of Detroit (or both of those are full), try Weber_s Inn in Ann Arbor.

EDIT: Google says 44 mins from Ann Arbor to Detroit, but it has NEVER taken me that long...I must drive too fast, lol!

  • There are a couple of new hotels right downtown.

Have you thought about a Bed-and-Breakfast?

Here are a couple that are outstanding:

Each B_B is really fantastic, the Inn at 97 Winder, is closest to downtown, but I like the Inn on Ferry Street a little better. Ferry St is named after the guy that started the Ferry-Morris Seed Company, you can stay in his mansion. Kinda cool.

The AutoShow is a good time. If you have the time, head to the Dakota Inn. It_s a old German restaurant, opened in 1932 and is a unique place to eat authentic German food.

I suggest you take a cab there, it is a bit off the beaten path, and I_d hate for you to get lost.

email me if you need more info. enjoy your stay

  • Try Royal Oak, Mi or Birmingham, Mi
  • What is a good website to find vacation home rentals in Northern California?|155221

I_m trying to find a honeymoon location for early October. We want something that is as secluded as is possible and is close to outdoor recreation. Beachfront would be great. Please provide websites where we might find information or if you know of a specific home, that would be great to know, too.

  • A website called _Vacation Rentals By Owner_:

Property owners list their own places with descriptions and contact info. Good luck and congratulations!
